Easy class...just try to stay awake
same notes for the last four years
No Comments
Writes down all the notes you need to know. Know those and class is a breeze.
Very nice guy gives great notes and explains thouroghly but tests are hard still
He's a really nice guy, but the tests are kinda hard cause they cover sooo much
Test suck...but he gives good notes...WAY TOO MANY SLIDES!!!
Very good professor, very smart man. very helpful...
Funny demonstrations, very organized notes, & tests usually quite easy
Kind of sounds like Kermit, but is essentially a good teacher
He gives really GOOD notes. Other than that the class sucks. The tests are hard. The lectures are even harder, because you have to try to STAY awake. Very VERY boring class, but semi-easy..all you have to do is take notes and memorize them.
ok teacher, just don't ask a question that he doesn't know the answer to. he'll stumble around for an answer. also if the slide projector doesn't cooperate, he gets all disoriented and can't teach, he'll probably send you home.
Everyday he turns off the lights and starts notes. To anyone short on sleep this is an open-door opportunity to fall asleep. The tests aren't hard if you take notes and do the review sheets. He's a nice and funny guy though.
Good Guy!!! Boring at times but an interesting class
BORING! But easy
this guy really sucked, he was so nerdy... difficult class glenard had too
You learn a LOT in this class. I only had 5 people in my 261 class. It was a lot of fun.
This class was kind of hard. Just write down everything that he says and review it for the tests. You should do fine if you do that.
Good teacher; if you don't like Astronomy already, stay away- lots of info. Great lecture notes and logical tests. He is always willing to help you. He's a smart and funny guy. I learned a lot but it was NOT easy. Tests pretty much reflect his lectures
he is a very nice guy and definitely knows what he's talking about, but come on! how many times can someone say "okay" in one class period? count and see. you'll be amazed.
Boring class, you get all your information for tests from class lecture...STUDY YOUR NOTES thats all you have to do. Not a bad class.
The class itself isn't hard, but it's BORING!!! I gind the most interesting part listening to the echo of his voice through the lecture hall (listen really hard, it's there). And when he erases to board (which he does a lot) he looks like a duck....
Very good teacher, I found AST 111 interesting at times when I thought it would be boring. Tests are fairly easy if you go to class and take notes.
He's not a bad teacher.. To do well in the class, you really have to pay attention, as he doesn't go out of the book very much.. As long as you can attend, and stay awake, and take decent notes, it's not bad. If you're lazy like me, I don't recommend.
Nice guy, very lenient! Best part: fall asleep for 15 min, wake up, write down board notes= you're set! He does look funny erasing..but if you forget a paper, justslip it under his door. AweSOME! and easy too!just study notes and you're set!
Awesome guy! Loved his class... go to it and you'll be fine on the tests. I hope I have him again someday!
Excellant teacher! If you take accurate notes to study for tests you will do great is his class.
I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot, that is when i was awake. Once he turned down the lights to show pictures I was sleeping. If you study for the tests you will do fine. Wake up every 15 minutes to write the notes down.
This guy was a great teacher, as long as you go to class and get the board notes you're set and will pass with flying colors! He doesn't answer questions the greatest though, so don't ask too many.
True, it may be hard to make a class about the stars difficult, but he made it very enjoyable. I recommend this class and prof. Great lectures and demonstrations (its rare that I laugh in a lecture hall but when he spun on his chair, i couldnt help it)
Excellent teacher. Made the material easy to learn and remember and was very clear. Exams were easy.
he is a great teacher. the tests cover a lot of information but he gives you a study guide. be prepared to take at least 10 pages of notes in class, he writes everything on the board. very helpful if you ask him, definatly loves ast and his job.
He helps you out whenever you have a question, the only thing hard about this class are the tests, and you only have 2.
Very easy class. Didn't go but once a week and got an A so yeah. He's so cute! Great class.
Awesome prof!! His notes are very clear and he is willingly to help his students. We never made it outside but he made the lab halfway interesting.
I really learned a lot in this class. He is a great teacher. Very easy going and make sure you say hi to him is you see him out and about in Mt. Pleasant!
Great class! The lectures were very interesting, and the labs were really well run. The prof is great and always extremely helpful. Goes out of his way to answer questions even out of office hour times. Best prof I've had yet!
Williams is the coolest **** at this college. I feel bad that he has to put up with the idiots in the class, but he still answers their questions. Definitely recommend taking him.
Teaches the class in a logically manner. There's nothing out of the blue on any of his test. Extremely helpful doing office hours. At very rare times seems unsure about questions, but I beileve it was the first time teaching this class.
Wow! What an awesome physics prof. His tests are right out of his notes and are very easy. He goes really slow in class and teaches everything at an elementary level. Only 5-10 CAPA problems per set. He's just awesome. Definitely recommend taking him!!!!!
Awesome guy! Physics could be a hard class but he teaches it so well that it becomes very easy. Tests are extremely easy too. You will still learn alot from him even though his class seems so easy.
Definitly the best teacher I have ever had! His notes are clear, his tests are fairly easy, and he's just a great teacher! If you're the tiniest bit interested in the subject, you will never be bored.

notes are very clear, his tests are decently easy. it's really easy to fall asleep, that's the hardest part of the class, staying awake. make sure you do the reading assignments and study those for the test as well as the notes. he's really boring to listen to.
This class is easy if you take the time to review your notes and if you pay attention in class. Everything is straight from the notes. Reading assignments are cake! Best taught class. Although the subject matter isn't always easy, he makes it easy for students to understand it. A great class to take in that UP catagory.
AST 111 is a hard class; it involves a ton of detail and reading, but William's is always willing to help and review with you. Overall, he is a great guy.
Williams is a great teacher...he makes everything very clear and if you take notes directly from what he puts on the board, study them, and do your study guides which are easy tehn you will do great on the tests! He tries to make it as interesting as possible...hes a great teacher!(and he knows his stuff)!
Very, very nice professor, and a somewhat easy class. If you take the effort to do the reading assignments and take notes, you'll be fine. It is a shame he doesn't teach the lab to this class as well.
I was like you reading these opinions of the class but many people said it was easy and that is not true. I mean there aren't many assignments and you get good notes but the test are challenging. I would recommend it if you are willing to really study.
Awesome Prof! He makes material that would be hard to learn on your own simple and interesting. If you take AST, take it with him.
The tests are ok as long as you go through the review he hands out. The bookwork is really easy. Each class consists of Glen lecturing and giving VERY clear notes on the board. Copy those notes because test questions come right from those notes. You definitely need to book for the book work, so I would buy it if I were you.
This class is a breeze if you come every day and take down all the notes. Study your notes and the tests are easy. Pretty interesting slides and really nice guy too!
WHAT A DRAG THIS CLASS IS. DONT MISS A TEST- THE MAKE UP TEST IS ORAL AND IT SUCKS.
I initially thought this would be an easy course. The tests were challenging if you were unprepared. The book homework is easy points and if you study your notes and memorize the info, it's not that bad. Lectures are informative but unfortunately boring. If you like astronomy, take the class with Glen! Not an easy A or blow off class though!
Glen is awesome! I think he is the best professor I've ever had. I've taken classes at GVSU, EMU, and CMU, so I know what I'm talking about!
This class is sooo easy, he always turns the slids on and off which I admit I tended to fall asleep but basically-if you read over the notes once or twice or just go to the lectures and basically not really try, you can get a B no problem-all of his tests are multiple choice.
He is one of my fav professor. i actually look forward to his class. he is so cute in that balding, middle-aged, geeky sort of way. he really knows his stuff and loves teaching it. this notes make me happy, so many simple little drawings. this man knows how to teach. reminds me of high school, when teachers cared enough to teach. Take Him!
Glen Williams is quite possibly the best professor to have for astronomy. He's on top of his game and knows everything he tells you. Everything he tells you or writes on the board comes straight out of his head. He's kinda of nerdy, but it just makes him all the more likeable. Everything you need to know for his tests come straight from his notes.
Astronomy 111 was the easiest class I've ever taken at Central, but I still learned a lot. Dr. Williams was always there to help out, and had review sessions available every day before the exams in case you missed something or needed extra help. A great Professor!
elementary style notes, little class assignments for use of book, very easy. the test only consist of what is in these notes and the little assignments straight from the book that he gives you about a week to complete. if you take this course take this guy
if you like structure, take this guy, elementary notes makes it very easy to understand things. tests over notes. there are a few in class things and out of class things but not many
Are you kidding me hes horrible. the worst physics teacher ive ever had. he doesnt know how to explain the info to the class. i dont doubt that he knows the material...but he needs to learn how to teach
Awesome prof. Very cute...in a nerdish sort of way. He is very kind and helpful.
DONT BUY THE BOOK! exams all from notes. 1/2 problems you have to show work on and 1/2 MC. has random quizes in class that you never get back. assigns CAPA like it's nobody's business. even assigns it during finals week. good luck trying to understand the material on your own because he for sure doesn't teach it well at all. thank god for tutoring.
So nice and really adorable. He had that nerdy, obliviously steriotypical professor image going for him. Easy class though. I learned a lot and it was actually a fun (if sometimes boring) lecture.
Great professor. Really knows/enjoys the subject. I was interested to see what an Astronomy class would be like and it was very interesting. Couple guided reading worksheets (easy) and 4 exams(inclding final. Exams are pretty simple if you go to class and read. His leactures are basically "Astronomy for dummies" Take this with Glen Williams.
Glen is an awesome professor. His lectures and notes are always very clear and easy to follow. If you have any questions he will ask several times throughout a period and is always willing to answer whatever random things people ask. His nerdy personality really made the class a lot of fun, take this class with Dr. Williams!
Good professor. Notes are very detailed and interesting. You just need to learn the study guide for the tests; don't need to read the book except to do the homework. I agree with the earlier comment about his wife She is cute. I saw her, too. : )
easily my favorite class of the semester it was taken!
I would recommend avoiding this class if you're not a science person. Lectures are really boring, not necessarily because of Glen; the material is just snooze-worthy, which would be okay if the class was easy. I didn't think it was, however. You really have to know your stuff for the exams.
Great Teacher!!!! Class is not hard if you show up and take notes. He offers extra credit and reading assignments to help your grade. A Great Man!!!
The year is not even over yet, and I already miss him. This was a really fun class. Gives 3 exams (including the final) and the final is not comprehensive. Gives some homework, not a lot, to see if you read the book. Exams are based directly off the notes, so you should go. Extra credit to visit the observatory. It is an easy A to help your GPA!!!
glen is the****, best professor i've had so far. his in class demonstration are really funny and help with understanding the material.i didn't know anything about astronomy before this class and now i love it. he gives good notes and answers any questions, attendance is not mandatory but i actually enjoy going to class
YOU NEED THE BOOK! He's a cute old man. If you enjoy Astronomy this class will be a pleasure for you. There are a few worksheets and one extra credit opportunity throughout the course but other than that your final grade is based upon four exams.
(CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS RATING) The exams are multiple choice and he provides a study guide for you. If you go to class and take notes/pay attention you'll be better off and he doesn't return e-mails so don't bother!
He was great. He was extremely clear and spelled everything out for you. If you come to class you will know everything that will be on the tests. Studying is mandatory.
He is a good teacher. You need the book for the assignments. Take notes and go to class and you should be fine. He gives you study guides but your grade is based of four exams.
He is a great teacher. He is one of those people who are too intelligent to handle themselves, it is so obvious he loves what he teaches. GO TO CLASS, even though it isn't mandatory it will really help when studying. He curves the exams too, which helps because they are a bit hard. Either way, this guy is awesome!
This guy really likes what he does. This class is really boring but it's pretty easy overall. I got an A- in the class and attended 1 out of every 5 classes, so attendance isn't very mandatory. Study for the exams, I got B's and B+'s on most but aced all the homeworks. He also gives an extra credit assignment that really helps. Pretty easy class.
I adored this class; it was interesting, I learned a lot, and there wasn't very much work. You can tell that the prof loves his subject, and does a great job teaching it. He explains complicated topics well and is extremely willing to answer any questions - rare for such a large lecture hall.
I thought he was a great teacher. He is obviously extremely passionate about what he does. Extremely smart. Tests were very hard for me, study and memorize. Glen was super nice take him for sure!
This class was awesome! Sooo interesting and Glen is so nice. As long as you go to class and study your notes you will get an A. Only used the book for the few homework assignments we had. Don't read the book, just study the notes and you'll do fine!
Class isn't mandatory, but if you want to get a good grade you really need to go. I thought this was actually kind of a hard class for a 100 level class, the tests were kind of tricky for me, but as long as you study your notes you should be fine!
I hear that this class was difficult but didn't think so. Most days I sat in class with my computer and took notes on what he wrote down. His study guides are very helpful, and he gives homework once every two weeks and it is a one sided worksheet from the book.
Go to every class, its optional but extremely advised. His grade curve screws some people over def but as long as you have all the notes and do the study guides you will do fine on the exams.
Professor Williams does an excellent job with this class. Go to all the lectures and be sure to take notes because the questions for the exam come directly from any notes you may have from lecture. Exam questions are a bit specific so be sure to study. He gives out five easy worksheets for pretty much free points. I highly recommend him.
This class was tough! Make sure you don't miss a lot of class and take notes on everything he writes down. Go through the study guides question by question and answer them... he says it's not necessary but I found it was the only way to pass this class! :-)
Unlike many professors, he doesn't teach through powerpoints and direct book notes, but right from the top of his head. It's impressive. Attendance is a must if you want a good grade. His notes are very important in preparing for the exams. We have a few hw assignments, and he gives out awesome study guides for the exams. He is well organized too.
Great professor! His teaching style is great since he lectures and writes things down on the board the whole class instead of going through powerpoints. The fact he knows so much off the top of his head is just as mind-boggling as the facts you'll learn about our universe. Very interesting class. Go over his reviews, and you're guarenteed a B
Total badass - he has every lesson memorized. Dorkiest and most lovable prof ever. I heard somebody wrote a rap song about him. If you love astronomy and don't want to pay for the credits, just show up (nobody knows who is and isn't registered. Stay home on test days.)
Whether you love Science/Astronomy or just have a general interest in the subject you can learn so much from this class. It is really impressive how Dr. Williams has the lecture memorized and the detail in the notes is presented in a very clear and comprehensive fashion. Review the notes/study guide and you should have no problem in this class.
Dr. Williams is extremely knowledgeable about astronomy. He will try his best to answer any question you ask him and appreciates it when you do ask questions. He is incredible at presenting the material and uses multiple whiteboards instead of powerpoint and lectures without any notes. Pay attention and read the chapters. Grades with a curve.
His lectures are very boring, but his notes are clear and detailed. If you go the classes and stay awake, you should have no problem with this class.
Interesting guy. Doesn't use powerpoints and recites everything from memory and writes the notes on the board. It is IMPERATIVE that you go to class to take the notes. EVERYTHING on the exam is directly from what is in the notes. 4 exams and 6 assignments all very easy if you attend class. Grades on a curve. Definitely recommended.
Ridiculously smart, teaches everything from memory. Don't skip class. Stay awake when he turns off the lights. It gets more interesting toward the end of class. Grades on a curve, he throws out a lot of information. Textbook is only used for worksheets.
Awesome teacher. Curved the grade on every exam and in the end even curved the final grade. Take notes, go to class, everthing that's on the exams are in his notes. Loved the class! :)
Great professor. Great class. Material is extremely interesting and cool. Tests are for the most part easy, just make sure you take notes and go to class. Don't fall asleep. Even if you just listen it helps. I played Pokemon during one of the classes and listened at the same time, I got a B on the exam. Probably my favorite class at CMU so far.
Fantastic teacher, and a very nice guy! I had the flu and was in the hospital for several days leading up to an exam and he told me that if I didn't feel prepared, I could schedule a makeup exam any time before the end of the semester! A great teacher and a great class! Attendance is pretty important but taking good notes is even MORE important
Awesome professor, exams are fair: a couple calculation problems that are just like the numerous examples he works thru in lecture(just study notes and previous hw off Mastering Physics and you'll be fine(he curves the exam grades as well!))and a section of multiple choice ?'s. He's more than willing to help students with the problem sets too! Very
AWESOME PROFESSOR. More than willing to explain the homework. Makes himself very available even makes special late night hours the night b4 homework is due on mastering physics and before each exam. Provides u with equations on the exams, grades on curve!
Super great professor!! He is always willing to help and meet you outside of office hours if needed. Goes through multiple examples in class. Exams half multiple choice, half short answer. Can be a little tough occasionally but going through examples will help out and you will do fine. Once again, GREAT PROFESSOR.
Did not like him. My physics professor in high school was awesome so I was excited for this class, and hated it. And it was 4 days a week, ugh. I just couldn't stand sitting there and listening to him. The exams are 1/2 problems, 1/2 multiple choice. The multiple choice is easy, the problems can be easy if you really understand the material.
Overall great professor. Lectures were sometimes boring, but he explained his notes well. Exams were fair and contained problems very similar to the lecture notes. Getting an A in this class is very doable if you show up to class, do the homework, and study his notes before the exams.
I took this class as a blow off with no interest in Astronomy. After taking this class I am very interested. Go to class, do the EASY homework assignments and it shouldn't be a problem getting an A. Take good notes in class and the study guides should very easy. I suggest taking advantage of the extra credit, it only takes about 20 minutes. TAKE IT
Glen was a pretty good prof. Lectures were a bit boring but very informational and sometimes cool. If you write down exactly what he does on the board in lecture and use the study guide for exams you will do fine.
Class is easy, sometimes boring, but as long as you write down everything he writes down, you should be good for tests. And he has funny mannerisms and a few jokes up his sleeves, it's kind of adorable. Glen's cool.
Easy but boring class. Williams does a good job of explaining the subject matter. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend going and taking notes - if you do that, you'll do well on the tests. Homework is easy. If you need this for a UP requirement, take it with Williams!
Glen is a good teacher! He's very into astronomy. His class may be a little boring at times. As long as you go to class and do the homework you will pass with flying colors.
Glen really knew his stuff. I'm not a science person, but if you go to class that is exactly what is on the study guide and is similar to the test. He also does online assignments which are easy if you just search them online.
I thought this class was extremely difficult for a 100 level class. He gives you a decent study guide, but the exams were still very difficult. Very nice guy, but be prepared to work A LOT for a good grade.
I'm definitely not a bad student, but this class is not an easy UP. I went into after reading other reviews thinking it would be, I was sadly mistaken. The exams are super hard, and he's really dull when it comes to teaching. He knows his stuff, I just don't think he knows how to teach it. Even with the study guides it's challenging.
This is a hard class to fail, but also hard to get an A. Studying daily is a must since there's a lot of material that you simply need to keep straight. He is very approachable and will go very far to help you understand things. He isn't always exciting in lectures, though, so don't come to class if you're already tired.
Glen is a great teacher! When someone asks a question, he definitely answers it the best he can. He's pretty clear when he's explaining stuff. Definitely loves astronomy. You need to show up to learn the material, but it's pretty interesting. I'm enjoying the class. The tests are kinda hard if you don't study, so just study and you'll be good.
He is a nice guy and you can tell he is passionate about what he is talking about. As long as you write down what he writes on the board, and listen to him, you will do fine. Exams a little hard yet nothing to impossible
Dr. Williams is a really great guy. Physics is tough but he explains it very well. He let's you know which formulas you need to memorize and which you will be given (you don't have to memorize very many). He has homework every now and then in class, but they are pretty easy. The exams are part short answer, part multiple choice.
Dr. Williams was an incredible professor to take for physics! He makes learning easier than most of the other professors and gave us guided notes. His exams were 60% multiple choice and 40% problems, which was nice because partial credit was usually given. Definitely recommend him!
Williams was the only professor teaching AST and I had to take it for my program... I got a B+ in the class with a LOT of studying. Definitely a difficult class for being 100 level. Very nice guy, but throws a lot of material at you. I recommend showing up to class every time.
Excellent teacher. Very clear with lectures. The homework is confusing at first, but he is willing to help if you ask. Highly recommend him for a teacher. If you go to class, everything is really easy.
Glen is excellent! He does all the lessons from memory, which is frankly amazing. Tests are easy if you study. Highly recommend!
Williams is a wonderful professor. He's always willing to help and answer any questions. Highly recommend going to each lecture and taking good notes. Exams will be easy if you pay attention. Don't take if you're not interested in the subject!!
Easy class if you show up and take notes.. Don't need the textbook and most of the homework's answers are online.
Really good professor. He explains everything very well. I took this class just cause it filled a sub group and I'm glad I did because he made this class very interesting. One 3 exams and online hw he assigns like every 3 weeks. I recommend taking a class with him.
Does not respond to emails and is not accesible but explains thoroughly in class
Glen is a great guy, he is very excited to talk to his students every day about astronomy, and his homework is easy. Test are not a cakewalk but if you put in an hour of studying you can get an A.
Awesome teacher! Everything you need to know he talks about in class, as long as you study a little bit each day and take good notes theres no need to be worried about the tests. He clearly loves what he's teaching
Glen is not the most exciting professor, but I enjoyed his class because he was extremely clear with what he wants students to know. He writes on the chalkboards exactly what you should write in your notes. He kind of spoon feeds you the information. It is an easy A. No need to buy the textbook unless you are genuinely interested in learning more.
Great teacher! Super nice guy and loves what he teaches. Everything you need to know he writes on the board for notes so tests aren't hard.
He writes on the board exactly what you should be writing for notes, as long as your following along and taking notes the class is pretty simple. He doesn't respond to emails really, but the class is pretty straight forward, Wouldn't recommend buying the book unless you want more in depth info
I took this class as a UP and gratefully regret it. This class is super duper boring but you need to go to get the notes. If you miss a test good luck if you are out for more then 2 days after it because he will not let you take it and you will have to take the exam Orally. He never responds to e-mails and isn't accessible.
Glen is a great guy who really loves astronomy. Class is very clear cut. Whatever he writes on the whiteboard, write down in your notes. Study your notes before every test and you should get at least a B. Also makes study guides if you're really struggling.
Such a sweet guy but a tough class. Often times the questions on the study guide aren't even on the exam. He is pretty good about emailing back. Don't expect any extra credit.
I'm bad at all things involving math, and Dr. Williams made this class doable. Very clear in his lectures, and takes time to ask students if they have any questions. He'll even throw you a hint on an exam if you go ask him a question. Also the exams are curved, so you could get a 78% and still get an A. Very kind and helpful, take this class w/ him
IF IT SAYS YOU HAVE GLEN BUT A LADY NAMED ASHLEY TUCKER IS TEACHING GET OUT OF THAT CLASS NOW!!! Had AST lab class supposed to be taught by him but she was teaching instead, she is a HORRIBLE teacher, doesnt answer anything clearly, talks to herself instead of teaching, is sarcastic rude and assumes you know more about AST than a 112 lvl class does
Williams is just okay. He is very bland and boring. He made a joke once during the entire semester. Homework is easy and exams are decent! He curves which is great! The textbook is not needed. He does not really teach though. He comes in, writes on the board, asks if there are any questions, then class is over. Not a bad professor, but not amazing.
He never really uses blackboard, so it is difficult to keep track of grades throughout the semester.
Contrast to what others here say, I think Dr. Williams is a great professor. He requires a book, but everything he says in lecture is what the exams consist of. His tests are easy as long as you understand the concepts. He may be dry at times, but he is by far one of the best. Take him. He curves!
Nice guy, really knows his information, and accessible for questions & the like. Exams were definitely stressful, but it basically was all in the notes. Skipping would not be a good idea. Interesting info, fun demonstrations. In-class projects are done with your partner/work group.
The best professor ever!!!
Dr. Williams is a great professor. His exams are strictly from the lectures so i don't suggest skipping. You don't really NEED to listen to him just write down everything he writes on the board. Lectures are a drag and can be boring but his class is super easy if you just take notes. Exams questions are sometimes worded weird but they arent too bad
If you don't show up and write down literally everything he puts on the board you will fail. The book is a waste of money, just buy the access code to the online site because you won't open the book once.
Great professor. He made lectures interesting and had good demonstrations. Make sure to write down everything he writes on the board and you'll pass the class no problem.
Glen was a very nice professor and his lectures were always very interesting. I, however, would not recommend taking this class because your entire grade is based on exams. You do have smartwork assignments but they really don't affect your overall grade at all. Unless you decide to put ALOT of effort into studying for the exams.
The work was too hard for me that I had to drop the class. The professor just didn't explain the material enough.
He is very straightforward. This class is heavily lecture-based. He writes out everything on the board that he wants you to know, so there are no surprises on exams. There is not a lot of homework, and when he does assign it he gives you plenty of time to complete it.
Honestly, the exams are stupid, the curves sometimes screws you over. No extra credit available. Don't buy the book
An example of a professor who knows a lot about a subject, but nothing about teaching. He is unable to teach information in any way other than using (many) power point slides. He has angry outbursts and cussed students out in class, and is unable to relate to students, show any compassion, or understanding.
Dr Williams is very sweet and wants everyone to do well. It is lecture heavy, but we did lots of examples and group problems to better understand material. The exams can be tough but he grades fairly and curves as needed. I would recommend him over any other physics professor!
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN. I HATE physics and he made it extremely tolerable. His lectures are extremely thorough and exams were very fair. He does in-class team problems that help with learning the material. He also does in-class demonstrations which were interesting. He is also very willing to answer questions during exams unlike many professors.
I hated this class. There would sometimes be 2 quizzes a day on information that was barely covered. Dr. Williams is a prof who knows a lot about his subject and nothing about how to explain it to people who don't have his extensive background. Sometimes it seemed like his slides and tests weren't even his own, he was unprepared. I don't recommend.
Physics is a tough subject, Mr. Williams did not make it any easier. His homework was pretty easy just need to have enough time to do it. However, the class itself was very intense and exams werent terrible. You are graded on your exams, homework and participation in class. Exams are a huge chunk of your grade and werent easy. Average prof rating
To be completely transparent, I hate physics as a topic, that being said, Glen did an excellent job taking a step by step approach to each lecture and was always sure to show plenty of examples, many of which became the model for questions on his exams. Glen is a great choice for an intro level physics professor.
Great professor. Take really good notes, because these notes are basically the exam. Use Chegg for the homework because it has little to do with the exams. Pick your group wisely at the beginning of the year because you will complete pop quizzes together for points. Overall, memorize the notes, ask questions, and you will be fine.
I am taking this class during the first full online semester (fall COVID), the lessons usually consist of him listing formulas, then working them with examples. It was the situation where you can follow the example easily enough, but the next example was confusing until he started to explain it. Know every formula and relationship very well to pass
I took this class completely online Fall 2020. The homework was easy enough, but did not apply to the exams. The course grade was made of total homework points and four exams. Do not expect Dr. Williams to help you, my friend had a Zoom office-hour meeting scheduled with him that he never showed up for. TLDR; homework is not good practice for exams
Online Fall 2020. All the exam content came from lecture, don't buy the book. Course grade is from total homework points and four exams. Also, homework does NOT prepare you for exams. Don't expect Dr. Williams to help you either - I had an office hour meeting via Zoom that he never showed up for. TLDR; Memorize notes for exams. Get help elsewhere.
Glen is an older gentleman who is working with now technology due to Covid, he has some issues with said technology but he tries everything in his power to fix it. I have a lot of respect for him and I would recommend taking him.
Boring lecturer. Interesting class. Did his best with technology issues. The grading scale is both fixed and curved, it is confusing but helps the majority! Responds to emails fairly quickly and is a caring professor even though he has large classes. Homework help on quizlet. If you take good notes, do the hw, and study guide you can pass.
Dr. Williams seems like a good professor but doesn't make class interesting. It is very boring. I have a had a very difficult time grasping the material. Lecture, Homework, and Exams are the only thing this class does. Textbook is online and so is homework.
Glen is an amazing professor, but be ready to take notes because it is very lecture-heavy. He only grades off of the exams and the Mastering Astronomy assignments. He likes to include videos in the lecture which I really liked. Glen is a very nice man, but make sure you pay attention and study for the tests.
I liked his lectures. I took this class hyflex which was nice because then I could go to the lectures online. If you do not go to class you will miss the notes for the test and might not pass.
There are worse professors, but Dr. Williams is unnecessarily harsh, especially for what are supposed to be entry-level courses. There was a 10% penalty for each question attempt that was wrong, which essentially punished you for not knowing how to solve a problem off the bat. Open note exams can only do so much.
Dr. Williams is okay for astronomy. The exam questions were directly taken from lectures, so if you don't catch up on anything missed, chances are you'll miss a few questions. The textbook was rarely used, and mainly just for the Mastering assignments. Easy A if you can get through without falling asleep.
He is an alright prof. I think he explains concepts well but is absolutely awful with explaining math. Homework is easy as long as you click "practice another" and it literally shows you how to do the problem. I hate how little is graded. He does curve but it doesn't favor high grades at all.
His class was easy to understand and he explains things much better than other physics profs. The other class of physics 130 had about an average of 30% lower grade compared to Glen. I would reccomend him for all future physics class's Beware of the tests they are somewhat difficult and the grade is 84% tests there are 4 tests in total.
really nice professor, lectures fairly quickly, he lectures for this entire course. You take about 4 exams and do some homework on this online site called mastering astronomy. you definitely need to take good notes. He gives you all the information but you seriously need to study.
Literally no way to prepare for exams. He says the homework will prepare you for the writing portion but literally is no help. I would practice them over and over and try finding other examples on my own and still did poorly. Usually an A/B student but officially got my first D in college. He curves which still does not help enough.
Good professor, and super caring of his students. I slept in on an exam which the 4 noncumulative tests make up 90 percent of and he let me take it in his office. Makes hard concepts seem easy and will work with you. Curves all grades so the average is a B to make sure no one fails.
Dr. Williams makes physics super easy. He is super organized and teaches so well. He answers questions so well and never makes you feel dumb. Some group work in class but it is all doable. In class, closed-note section of exam and at-home, open-note section. 3 exams & 1 final not cumulative.
Dr. Williams is very traditional, but he gives really good lectures. Write down everything he puts on the board, and you'll have what you need for the tests. He gives a really nice review sheet before every test; study those. Physics is tough by nature, but Dr. Williams is the way to go if you're looking for the least painful experience.
This prof was very good at discussing material and thoroughly demonstrating the concepts to class. He assigns numerous homework assignments with a week's worth of time to complete each. There are in-class credit assignments that if you are not present you will not receive points.
His class is very lecture heavy, so make sure to make lots of notes. Other than that, his class was very straight forward, and he made the material very easy to understand.
A fine professor. The lectures can be really boring but as long as you take good notes, do some minor studying, and complete all the homework, you're gonna pass the class. Make sure to come to class or have someone to copy notes from cause you'll need it.
Professor Williams' lectures are straightforward but can be dry. Stay engaged, take good notes, and use resources like Unstuckstudy to prep for exams. The course material is manageable if you keep up with the work.
Glen Williams is my king. I loved his lectures and how he was able to actually draw out and explain everything he was teaching us. He is the sweetest and seems to really care about the subject. While attendance is not mandatory, you can not miss a day of lecture because he has no online notes and writes them all on the board. Love this man so much!
I took this class for a gen ed credit, loved it. The lectures night seem long cause of the extra 15 mins but they aren't, as long as you show up and take the notes you'll do fine on the exams.
The class was pretty straightforward-- this class was very lecture heavy, but he was a good professor. The mastering astronomy homework could be confusing and so could the exams, but the rest was good. Make sure to take a lot of notes when he lectures, even stuff he doesn't write down will be on the exam so just go to class and pay attention.
