Very nice, funny
He makes you think and apply what you learn to examples. He challeges your thinking and wants you to learn. Great lectures and funny. Hard tests. Great at engaging student questions.
Doesn't teach anything that isn't in the book, but you get good prepared notes from him.ie. it's easy if you come to every class. But he misses appts and office hours or is "busy" on pet projects or outside clients and ignores you.
Great teacher! he gives the notes on his website. Come to class to fill them in. tests are not bad, if you study the notes he gives. very clear on expectations, but very busy. very funny. i want to take him again for another course!
He's very funny and lots of fun. You'll learn a lot in his class.
He is one of the best professors at SJSU. His teaching style makes you think you're talking to a friend instead of listening to a teacher. However, beware of his tests. You NEED to study for them, because they are pretty hard... its all in the notes.
You can tell that this is a professor that enjoys what he does, is very helpful and a good teacher.
His Abnormal Psych class was one of the best ones I have ever taken. Very clear in his expectations and his notes. Even when he posted all of the notes on the website people still always came to class.
His drugs, brain, & behavior class is very interesting - however how could it not be with that type of material. He's very clear with his expectations and he hands out itemized notes that child could understand. *Plus he's funny!
Dr. Callaghan is one of the best psychology professors. He has a passion for teaching. Class is challenging but you learn so much. Go to class and do the reading/work and the semester will be worthwhile
He is one of the best teachers i have ever had. He is so funny. At first his first quiz is intimidating, but it is to scare you, the rest is soo so easy. No presentations, just one term paper. Pick a book and write about it. The books are very interesting
Lectures are clear and shown on powerpoint. May exceed time prohibited but is all for the good of the class. hard to get a hold of but not his fault (too many students). Good person to get as a mentor.
Very good teacher and was responsive to students questions and comments.
My only regret is finding him my last semester. If you want to go on to grad school, get to know him.
dr c's a great prof. very knowledgeable & excited about his work. the class is interesting as hell, so i found it very easy. his quizzes are take home and just grades on tests. no projects, but i took him for summer,so may be different for other semesters. highly recommended.best prof at sjsu.
Nice guy, very interesting lectures, but the exams are killers. I loved going to class and listening to him, and I honestly learned so much, but I did not do well enough on the exams to pass the class. Great class and professor, but you will have to study hard for the exams and work really hard throughout the entire semester.
FUNNIEST TEACHER I'VE HAD. And Best. Don't miss a chance with this one.
He is so awesome. He was funny, not boring, and really cool. He's a great professor and there should be more like him at SJSU. I wish he taught business courses too.
dr. c is my favorite prof at sjsu. he's helpful and really funny. he's very knowledgeable about getting into grad school and very willing to talk to anyone interested in an advanced degree. really knows his stuff and is the most interesting profs on campus.
I seriously laughed out loud every day of class. He is a great lecturer and really easy to talk to if you can track him down. I want to take many more classes of his. Do the reading or you may feel very much in the dark.
HE IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!
this class is pretty hard but he gives great lectures and provides more than enough to pass all of his tests. Hes very approachable and can be a very helpful advisor
By far, one of the top 5 professors this school has to offer. A genuinely nice guy who is willing to help you out if you show real interest
Hes hard, but not impossible. His teaching style illicits excitement into the subject. He really cares about the subject and has a passion I have yet seen in any other teacher. Wonderful class, I learned a ton.
Dr. Callaghan is the best PSY instructor @ SJSU. He is very funny and interesting to listen to. I took the class over the summer so it might differ from regular semesters. Gives you fill in the blank lecurte notes! They are so nice to have. A couple multiple choice hw assignments based on book and a couple multiple choice tests. Highly recommended!
best teacher i've ever had. very approchable and easy to understand. he's able to convey information in a very interesting manner and is easy to listen to.
Makes you want to come to class. His lectures are so interesting and his goofy attitude just makes that much more fun!
AWESOME teacher! very dynamic in Lectures and engages cLass pretty weLL. taught with rogers..these two are great! study very hard though, materiaL is interesting but on the bioLogicaL side. take!!
He is a good lecturer, however don't listen to him when he tells you what to study. He will tell you to know the trends and not the specific numbers and then test you on specific numbers.
Keeps you focused on the lecture when you are in class. Funny as hell!
Although his lectures were interesting, his tests were a bit unreasonable. There was a lot of information to test from, yet he chose to ask questions on very minute details. He likes to think that he is available to students, but this really is not the case. I got an A, but I read the chapters twice and memorized everything from his notes.
Awesome teacher, puts in a lot of movie references, is VERY experienced as a clinician, researcher, and professor (well rounded), is a busy guy but helps when needed...his class is very fun, but don't skip the studying for tests. GREAT TEACHER, AND VERY CUTE!
Very funny, lots of interesting stories from the field, and is a joy to listen to. The problem is that his lectures don't always cover everything on test. I learned a lot, but only got a B in the class because I was tested on things that weren't emphasized as much. Skip a few lectures, and read the chapters 3-4 times. Doesn't provide study guides.
Extremely fair. Respects the students, expecting it to be returned. Values class participation and answers all student questions. Lot of clinical experience. Super resource on grad school. I appreciated his computer skills. Excellent presentations and all class info is online. Posts grades promptly. Super nice all-around great professor.
This is one GREAT teacher. This was a really interesting class for me, explained a lot about practicing psychology. I got an A but you REALLY have to go to every class. Almost ALL test questions come from lecture, 10 easy take home quizzes. 1 interview paper. I highly recommend him if you don't tend to skip class.
Great prof! His tests are a bit hard, but not impossible. Do the 10 take-home quizes & study/memorize his lecture notes. i got A. His lecture is informative & funny. You'll never be bored in class!
Dr. Callaghan is awesome! I loved his class. If the class chooses notes, he puts his lecture slides on-line. Definitely recommend those because he does go through stuff pretty fast. Weekly take home quizzes with answers straight from the book. Tests are challenging, but if you study your slides and quizzes, you should do well. Hes so funny! TAKE!!
Took him in the summer so the class was microwaved short. Book is mandatory to take the weekly quizes. He's very funny and clear in what he teaches and expects. The tests may suprise you, but there taken mainly from the notes and quizes. Defintely worth taking. It's cliche, but take notes, do the quizes and you'll be fine.
Awesome teacher who gives great study guides
Great Class. Learned a lot if you like psyc it will be really easy. He knows his stuff. He's funny and makes class go by quickly I enjoyed it. deff recommend taking.
highly recommended. he teaches you everything you need to know and in a fun and creative way. tests arent easy but they're not hard, as long as you study, you will do well. i wouldnt have changed this teacher for this subject for anything! take it with him if you can
THis was by far the BEST class & prof I've had thus far. He is super funny & smart & makes class go by fast. He is super knowledgeable about everything. Super approachable & helpful. Great source for learning about grad school too. People who gave him bad comments must've not gone to class or must not be fully invested in psych. Must take teacher!
He definitely makes hard psychological material easy to understand. The book is mandatory for his online quizzes which can take a while to find the answer. In lectures, he's definitely engaging and fun. You learn a lot in his class, and overall he a great guy.
best psych teacher in the dept! he made class fun and i really understood the material from him. he was always super helpful. but you have to do your part and attend each class and stay on top of it. if so, you will pass. exams are extensive but he's a fair grader if you really studied and provides ppt notes and study guides.
One of the best Professors at SJSU! His lectures are extremely interesting, educating, and funny-you will not want to miss a single one of them. You will learn so much in this class. Highly recommended for those who plan on graduate school. Two tests, essay format (he provides a study guide), one paper, and 10 online quizzes.Yes, I got and A.
hes an amazing professor. he is an interesting lecturer. i never wanted to miss his class because what he had to say kept me wanting to learn. although his tests can be tricky, you WILL learn. his classes are valuable. i reccommend!
A bit hard exams; over 50 questions in the exam study guide (too much), presentation slides difficult to understand (shortened sentences using professional language), too much info about ethics, career and training issues, not enough info about assessment & specialization. Too hard in grading term papers (for an undergrad level). His lectures did n
Does not grade papers fairly (I personally think my paper was worth more than a C). I got A?s on the tests, but the paperwork ruined my total grade.
I do believe Professor does not grade fairly. 10 on-line quizzes (at times tough to answer) must look answer in book. Reading is required. 2 essay format exams. 1 vignette (paper on diagnosing). Not very helpful, I did go to office hours, but really didn?t help. Power point only helps him lecture, isn?t very useful to study from for exams. Over all
AWESOME Professor! Makes class very interesting and difficult material easy to grasp. Tests are based on lecture and quizzes - hard but fair. Attend class, do quizzes and extra credit and you'll be fine. Truly caring and a great guy. Recommend him highly.
Callaghan is HILARIOUS. He is constantly cracking jokes. Lots of power point and the exams are fairly straight forward. Online quizzes for easy points. How much easier do you want him to make it for you? Great teacher, I have taken him twice and received A's both times.
Pure. Awesomeness. That's all you need to know.
Super hilarious teacher! He keeps his lectures very interesting. His test are pretty difficult but they're not impossible.
Great professor, great class. Get ready to work, though - Callaghan expects a lot out of you in 160. Says it's supposed to show us what grad school is like...I'd take it again!
Callaghan is a great teacher, he is very intelligent and very funny. his class is based on 3 tests and 13 online quizzes, quizzes are not hard if you have the book, and tests are not hard if you study. To get a good grade I suggest not to have a social life the day before and the day of test days...overall work hard and you will do fine
His lectures are fun and interesting. He definitely keeps your interest and knows what he's talking about. Don't expect him to respond to your emails or even do things he says he'll do. Don't expect him to deal with it if the quiz questions aren't in the book. Go to lecture and do the quizzes, and you'll do fine. Great lecturer. Bad communicator.
GREAT teacher! would recommend him to anyone. I took his Psych 001 class over the winter and was never more intrigued to go to class. Made the material understandable and was helpful with all questions. He is hilarious and has great analogies and stories to relate the topics. Online quizzes arent that difficult if you read the book. tests are FAIR.
He's hilarious, perfect timing, has an insane passion for psychology and teaching, and really engages the class. I thought his ban on all electronics would drive me insane, but after the first twinges of withdrawal, it increases class interaction immensely. If I were an octopus, he would get 8 thumbs up. But why would an octopus have thumbs?
All i have to say is Mr. Callaghan is a great professor. I am taking him for psych 160 for sure!
Incredibly engaging lecturer, funny and entertaining while still managing to impart his vast knowledge of psychology. On the flip side, he always seems to be in a rush and doesn't make a lot of time for his students outside of office hours.
I took him over the winter course and he was very clearly in what he wanted from us. He explained his notes in great detail and his tests followed his notes. The research paper was also straightforward and one can easily receive an A if they are willing to put in the effort.
Dr. Callaghan is by far the best professor I've had at SJSU.He is both a clinician & instructor,so not only is he very clear and knowledgeable on the literature, he can provide real life examples to put it into context.Great comedic timing and passion for psychology.I HIGHLY recommend him for any course,I've learned more from him then anyone else!
His lectures are dry and drag on till the bitter end. Each chapter has 50+ pp slides. Each study guide is 10+ pgs & basically lists EVERYTHING on pp slides so it's useless. Weekly online quizes using book. Exams are MC, difficult, & tricky. I regret taking him as I didn't learn anything. I'm taking Psych 190 next sem. & will take anyone but him.
Absolutely loved his class. His lectures are very clear and he encourages questions during lectures which further add to the interest. All lectures are provided fully online and the study guides he provides are all straight from lecture and INCREDIBLY helpful. Weekly online quizzes and some of those questions are also on exams.
Amazing professor. Tough but fair. I wish I would have met him in undergrad. I recommend him to anyone serious about clinical psych
Ugh his class was a drag, but he was kind of funny. His jokes got old though. There were no homework assignments but there were online quizzes that had the answers online. He wasn't hard, but not too easy either. I never even opened the book.
He is fineeee
He is incredibly helpful, really caring about his students and the only way you would laugh more is if you went to a Louie C.K. show. Take this professor's class.
seriously an inspiration. hes the only professor that cares about his students immensely. take dr. c and any course he offers! you wont regret it
Dr. C is an incredible professor who is absolutely in love with the subject. Although class isn't mandatory, (lecture slides online) going to class was always entertaining. Study guides are horrible, they basically highlight every slide. Exams are pretty tough so STUDY hard! Only used to textbook for the quizzes. 4 page paper for 15 extra pts.
He is a very entertaining teacher and makes class interesting! BUT his study guides cover every detail from lecture so there's a lot to study. The online quizzes for 160 are REALLY hard and are based on a ton of reading that took me five hours a week to finish :( I've never had to do so much reading for one class and he grades super hard on papers.
GREAT professor, any by great...i mean GREAT. I recorded his lectures towards the end of last semester's psyc 160 course because he inspired me that much. If you want to be trained as a therapist, you better apply to his grad program because him and his wife are the best. I took Dr. Gregg too! So sweet
He is funny and very straight forward with his testing! Show up tolecture for explanation of the slides that he posts online and do the online 10 question quizzes and you're good. Plus he gives study guides. Take his class!
Highly recommended professor. His lectures are always clear and interesting. Although attendance was not necessary, many would still go because of how well he lectured. Very engaging in class and competent in the area of study. Got an A in his class. Heavy material in textbook but the power points make it easier to understand. Great professor!!!!!
Dr. Callaghan is the BEST psychology professor at state. I highly recommend taking any class he offers. His love for psychology shows immensely, and you can tell he wants the best for his students. Dr.C, if you're reading this, go feed the boo app!!! (only people in this section will understand how hilarious that day was)
Always an awesome semester if you're taking Dr. Callaghan. This was the second class I had with him, and I can assure you, your interest level in Psychology will go UP if he's your teacher. Such an amazing guy who believes in his students. No other professor in our department can beat his lectures. Thanks Dr. C
I only hope to be as competent and inspiring as Dr. Callaghan. That's all I could say. Thanks for a great clinical psych semester.
the BEST psychology professor!!!! Not to mention, he is HOT and likable! :D
He is awesome! Super funny and very clear. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is helpful. Tests are pretty easy if you study. Would definitely recommend him! I WANT to take a class with him again!
I absolutely loved Dr. C :) his tests are hard but not impossible. Out of all his tests, the first one is the hardest. You really have to study! study hard!!! he gives 15 points of extra credit which really helps out a lot especially because most people don't do well on his first exam.
One of the funniest teachers I've ever taken. The class is super easy, online quizzes for each chapter which aren't timed so you can use your textbook. Three multiple choice exams and he posts study guides ahead of time. If you want to get an A and have a laugh, take Glenn.
He's a very good teacher and the material is fun and fairly easy. However, attendance is a big issue for him. Don't expect to pass if you miss more than a few classes. Also, if you show up to class more than 5 minutes late be prepared to be asked to leave. Participation in in-class discussions is very important.
He is probably the funniest instructors I've EVER had. His lectures are very straight-forward and he leaves room for questions. His class is based on 10 quizzes before each chapter, 2 midterms & a non-cumulative final. Canvas uploads: all notes (clear), study guides (clear) and quizzes are uploaded DAY 1. No real excuse to fail. Used book for quizs
Dr. C explains the material very clearly and makes it very interesting. He's one of the funniest professors at SJSU and very open and kind. His tests are challenging (all multiple choice) but if you put in the work, you can definitely get an A
Dr. Callaghan is the best psychology professor at sjsu. He is there for you, he's understanding and his lectures are on point. You do not need to read the book for his exams, they're all lecture based. His online quizzes are based on the book though. He provides real life examples and relates back to his profession. Dr. C is also hilarious.
Professor Callaghan is great! He really cares about the subject and tries to make it interesting. If you can definitely take him. His tests are difficult but the study guide gives you everything you need to know. Non-cumulative tests, no homework, about 12 online quizzes, and he gives an extra credit assignment. Highly recommend going to class.
Prof. C is great. He really cares about the students and what he is teaching. There are no tests for Clinical Psych but there are 2 papers, about 10 online quizzes based on the reading, and 4 simple in class assignments that he gives randomly when he notices a lot of people didn't go to class, so go because every point counts! Highly recommend him
I was really nervous about taking clinical Psyc but Prof. C is amazing! He is super funny and makes lectures interesting and easy to follow along. He really cares about his students and them passing his class. There are no exams, only 2 major papers. There at 10 quizzes that are easy if you actually read the material. Amazing professor, take him!
Great professor! I took abnormal psych for the winter course, honestly I was concerned being a super fast pace course. Honestly, I do not regret it he is inspirational, funny and makes lectures super interesting. Time went by very quickly and I enjoyed his class never felt like a burden. Take him if you can!
Professor Callaghan is awesome! He appreciates all questions and makes sure to give you a thorough response. He is also really funny! And that honestly made the class, which covers some tough material, a lot more fun to be in. He offers extra credit at the end of the semester and is very approachable. I definitely recommend!
Honestly, the information needed to pass the exams is given to you. He doesn't make it hard to understand the information, it's just a decent amount of information to memorize. Don't think you can wing the class, go to lectures. He literally teaches what's going to be on the exam!!!!!! There are study guides to help you and extra credit.
Agreed that he is one of the best psych profs at SJSU!! Lectures are great (but not mandatory), and he kept the entire class entertained with his humor up until the last class. Textbook is needed for the weekly quizzes and exams. We had 3 exams and opportunities for extra credit. He genuinely cares and wants everyone to succeed he is great.
I love Professor Callaghan. I wish I could take him for EVERYTHING. He loves to engage with his students, he loves to share his experiences, he's funny and approachable, and his lectures are SUPER CLEAR. Take him every chance you get
Super great class! A lot of terms and definitions so be prepared to take notes but I learned a lot. Teacher was very good at responding to emails. Overall a great class to take in winter, not too hard! TAKE GLENN CALLAGHAN SUCH A FUNNY TEACHER!!!
Dr. Callaghan's lectures are very interesting, the exams were straight from lecture which was great and even though the class is very dense of material he taught it in an engaging way. The assignments were not bad at all and actually interesting.
There's a quiz due every week. There is also three exams out of 100 points. There are 50 questions and only 75 minutes. I don't think it was enough time given there is so much to learn about the field of psychopathology.
The semester is broken down into 3 modules. Each module has one assignment, quizzes, lectures, and one exam. He gives suggested due dates but you can work at your own pace since all work is due on one specific day. Exams are based on lecture so take lots of notes. Professor Callaghan is so caring and approachable so reach out if you need to.
Took him during the winter session. The class consisted of 3 exams, 3 exam prep questions, 13 quizzes, 2 extra credit options, a course structure quiz, and an assignment regarding mental health. The exams were curved and he was super kind and knowledgeable.
Dr. Callaghan is a really sweet professor and I appreciate his passion and progressive view on psychology. However, I have to say his test questions and assignment questions are constantly unclear and there can often be more than one answer.
Great professor. This is not an easy class. Exams are difficult, especially the first one! Do all the quizzes, assignments and the extra credit assignment at the end as it helps a ton. Also, actually listen to the lecture videos and take notes; don't rely on the slides alone.
We stan Glenn Callaghan!!
Dr. C is sweet and his lectures were engaging. Class consisted of weekly quizzes and 3 module assignments, keep in mind they're due at 1:30pm, not 11:59pm. They were easy and fun. 3 exams which were hard. The study guide is super long and too broad so you have to study and the exams are mc with 5 options. Do the extra cred assignment, it saves you!
Dr. Callaghan is a great guy and a good professor. His lectures were extremely knowledgeable and funny. His tests are incredibly hard though. All in all not a bad time for his class just stressed a good amount on the tests.
The Psychology 110 online class has online video lectures and three modules. There are three exams in total and one extra credit assignment in the last chapter. He is a tough grader, not an easy Professor, and not flexible with student accommodations. Please avoid taking his class if you don't want a C or D from this class. A or B is hard to get.
Dr. Callaghan is amazing. I took his asynchronous class and he is super easy to reach out to and his class is SUPER organized on Canvas. He is more than happy to answer your questions and discuss psychology with you. This was a content heavier class but super interesting and worth it.
I had him for the first five-week Summer session 2024 online asynchronous. Everything was straightforward with the work, quizzes, and assignment modules. Better work on every assignment on the day is suggested due and not the last minute due date. Exams are open-book. Fun class!
Took this class during the summer semester 5 weeks and his lectures are very straightforward and his workload is very flexible so that you don't feel overwhelm. Highly recommend.
Dr. Callaghan is the favorite prof at SJSU. His class was interesting, hilarious, and sensitive to the field of psych. He has 20+ years experience in both teaching and practicing, and if you're interesting in clinical, you NEED to take this class. We had 2 papers (no tests), both of which are great at preparing you for grad school. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Professor Callaghan makes this class engaging and fun. The workload is reasonable - weekly quizzes, 3 exams, and a few assignments. Lecture notes and the textbook are key for doing well. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep!
Super supportive! Quizzes are based on the textbook, but his slides in lecture are his own. Be ready to read the textbook on your own. Makes the content clear and understandable with plenty of examples. His in-class assignments are spontaneous, so be ready to show up daily. Overall, a great professor! You can sense his passion for the subject!
