Homework not mandatory, but HELPFUL. Very helpful professor.
He goes over every step so if you feel lost on a specific part he ends up going over it. The homework isn't graded or collected but he spends some time in the beginning of the class to answer any questions and go over any problems you had from the homework. It also helps you pass the tests and quizzes.
He is so great! I failed this class with another professor so I was intimidated to take it again, but McCabe made it so much easier to understand. He is so helpful too and everyone loves him. Make sure you see him in his office hours if you have trouble, he is so nice and a great instructor. Take him!
Doesn't go too fast, makes sure you grasp the concept before moving on. Lots of quizzes but they are very short and fairly easy. Great teacher. Attendance not mandatory but I would't skip.
Very clear presentation of material. You must show up for class and study. Homework assigned but not overwhelming. Cares about the students. I would take another class with him if necessary.
He only goes over like 2 homework problems before class - can't do more than that because he wants to get his lecture out of the way before class lets out or else he is behind. Really? Your students are limited to 2 questions in class? Also, tests are 5x harder than the HW - looked at the test and didn't recognize a whole lot from my notes.
He goes way too fast and only does a couple examples. Tests are super hard and the homework does not prepare you for it at all. He does not answer emails at all, and always messes up in class when lecturing.
Really long, fast lectures. His class was not organized at all. I have to take this class again because I could barely pass his tests... My highest test grade was a 62. If you want to pass this class, do not take him.
Great Professor and explains how to solve problems, step by step. Took this class in the summer. Tests were not hard if you know how to recognize the problem and know which formula to use. He is willing to help students if you ask questions. This is stuff you should have learned in high school.
Professor McCabe is one of the best professors I have ever taken!!! Yes, his class is not easy, but if you work hard you will do great. If you go to his office hours, he will help you A LOT! I would definitely take him again! Although it was not an easy class, I still enjoyed it and ,most importantly, I learned a lot from Professor McCabe!
He takes the time to explain thoroughly and definitely gives his office hours for extra help. Gives HW but never takes it up. It's up to you to do it and keep up. 3 tests and a final with several quizzes to help with overall grade. Would def take him again!
McCabe is a really solid professor. He's clear, and answers every dumb question you have. Tests aren't hard problems wise, but there's VERY FEW problems, so if you miss one you're really hurting your grade. Final is comprehensive, but he gives no review. Expect an absolute ton of homework. Otherwise, no complaints. Everyone failed test 3
Analysis. I would take him again. He gives you a sheet with proofs and has you do 2 to 4 of them at a time. You then bring your proofs to class for a grade. He has you present them to the class and he will help you correct you mistakes. I took pics of the others presenting the proofs and studied those for his 2 tests. Take if u want to learn it.
Professor McCabe is a great professor and definitely knows what he's doing. My advice before registering for this course is that you have to work hard and study at least 2 hours a day. Don't bother taking the class if you can't because it is a difficult course. Take the class if you're dedicated. Overall, good teacher, but the class wasn't for me.
Awful. I have never struggled to at least pass a class before and it all changed when I went into this class. I don't think I ever understood anything taught in class and he spoke in a way as if you already knew what to do or were a math major. Worst teacher I've ever had by far and the class consumed 3/4 of my time.
Okay, I love algebra, but calculus apparently not so much. I dreaded going to class because I did not understand anything! He is a good teacher, but a really harsh test grader. He would deduct a lot of points for simple mistakes. Although I did find out that he doesn't go too much in depth into business calc as other professors do. Its a hard class
Very boring, monotone teacher. He's pretty descriptive when it comes to lecturing, but it's very hard to retain and process all the info when it's 9:30am. If you get him, I'd suggest taking it in the late morning or afternoon when you're wide awake. Be on time to class or he will get upset with you. Also don't count on him letting out early.
Don't take for college algebra. He never makes reviews for the test, and doesn't specify what will be on the test. Is extremely hard to study for. Doesn't let you use notes or a graphing calculator like other college algebra professors, you must do everything by hand. He makes everything hard for no reason.
He's a good professor, made night class entertaining. The pace is quick through the sections, so be sure to take good notes. Has solid office hours for extra help. Tests are fair, grading is straight forward. He even offered help in upcoming courses. I'd take his classes again.
He worked through problems really quickly, making it difficult for those who did not understand to keep up. Doesn't give formulas, doesn't allow a calculator, and tests have a lot of fill in the blank. He was by far the most difficult of all the professors offered for this course.
Sometimes he goes through problems quickly, but it is easy to talk to him after class. To study for tests, you should redo all of the homework questions that took you longer than 5 minutes (the online program tracks this). I think he did some curving on the final. Overall, he is a good professor. He has a sincere smile like he wants to help.
Uses connect math for all homework. He gives partial credit on all test problems because no tests are multiple choice. He's not a bad professor, just hard to stay awake during, it gets boring. Attendance is not mandatory so you will always have a "small class" cause no one ever shows up. So you will always receive more help since no ones ever there
McCabe doesn't seem to know how to engage people who struggle with math. If you're already good at math, you'll be fine. The online homework helps you understand material, but doesn't boost your grade much at all. I would still do it though, because class could sometimes get confusing. Overall, not a bad teacher, the class is just a drag.
I have never worked so hard for a C in my life. If you're not a math major, avoid at all costs, he will make this class take up as much of your time and energy as possible. If you don't care about math take someone else. If you want to waste your life away, this is your guy. Thanks Glenn.
I loved Professor McCabe. You take notes the entire time in class, but he is accessible outside of class if you don't understand something. There is a lot of homework! But test questions come directly from the homework, just with different numbers. He is a very nice guy and his love for math and his job is evident every day.
he really cared about his students if you needed help at all. Goes very slow so that everyone is on the same page in class. really nice guy
He is an okay professor, not the best but not the worse. His class is very hard but office hours might help. He is very patient and doesn't mind going over the material again. He doesn't curve or give any extra credit. If you want an A, I wouldn't recommend taking him.
Although attendance is not mandatory, it is still necessary because he gives out quizzes nearly every class. The quizzes are usually simple and cover material that happened the previous class. "Homework" is optional, it's really just to help you understand better, comes from textbook so RENT the textbook. No extra credit. Super nice professor!
nice guy, pretty easy even if you're not good at math. had office hours every immediately after class so if there were any questions you could go to him immediately. Solid choice for an easy math class. Homework is done through mathlab with unlimited tries. 4 tests including a comprehensive final85% of grade, homework15%
He goes through each example on the board that is in the chapter, so if you skip lecture you can follow along in the book. MATH2417 has a lab component where the homework and quizzes take place. You don't want to skip the labs. McCabe gives a lot of homework. Tests are not bad.
Honestly, it's not a hard class just pay some what attention during lectures and study a couple nights before test and you will get an A. There are no HW grades just 3 test grades so just don't blow it off an you should get at least a B
There are only 4 grades and they are all tests, he assigns homework that will help you, but is not necessary. He is a good explainer and if you took college algebra in high school, you'll get a B
He makes everything easier for us to learn! he gives quizzes almost every class over what you learned over last class but theyre pretty easy. The tests are usually harder so study hard from the textbook
This class was the toughest math class I have ever taken but Glenn was probably the best professor to have. He explains things thoroughly in class and in office hours. Daily homework but not for a grade- but it is necessary to understand the material. 3 Tests and a Final are worth 85% of final grade and daily quizzes: 15%. Honestly a great dude!!
Guy talks in another language, math.
I know pre-calculus can be tough for some but, he explains it in such a comprehensive way. McCabe is genuinely a good teacher, he makes every second of lecture count, he consistently asks if anyone has questions. He gives very detailed in depth explanations and gives plenty of examples to apply to homework. Overall a great teacher.
Exams were worth 80% so make sure to do well on those. McCabe was good at "dumbing things down" so that everyone could understand. Very organized and a solid choice all around. I cannot emphasize enough how important exams are for this class. Nothing was absurdly difficult, but definitely above high school level pre-calculus.
I have not had a math class in 6 years and it was a real pleasure having him explain the basics and build the course material slowly. It really gave me a chance to catch up. He really does want you to understand the material and will stay and help as much as you need.
Hes literally such a good teacher. I was so bad at math & he explains everything super well. The only downside about this class is that its 85% tests and 15% homework, so you really have to work hard to get good test grades because it can make or break your grade. I ended up with an A in the class & I definitely recommend taking him.
Though this is a hard class in general, he made it a lot easier to understand. His lectures are informative, but I HIGHLY suggest you do the homework because there are questions on there that he does not teach in class. He is very helpful and has many tutoring hours available. Attendance is not mandatory but there are daily quizzes almost every day
He is not a good professor. He does not pay attention to people's questions during zoom, he teaches multiple sections each class and does only a few problems for each. I would not recommend taking him.
He works too quickly, doesnt pay attention to the zoom, in class isnt much better. No notes or calculators. Cant seem to make a human connection. Ive talked more to his assistant than him. Dropped the class to help my gpa live. Doesnt answer emails in a timely manner or sometimes at all.
do not take this class unless you already have a precalc background. he assumes you know everything, flies through 2-3 sections per lecture, jumps around, and is never clear. doesn't answer emails either. four exams make up basically your entire grade, so good luck.
Pt 1: Please do not take the bad ratings as whether or not you should take him. He is a really good professor. Truly. You just have to put in the work. The course break down is that there are a total of X amount of tests and one singular homework grade. The homeworks were given online and you had X amount of questions to do with unlimited attempts
I regret taking this professor. Do not take this class unless you already have a precalc background. He just assumes you know everything, and flies through 2-3 sections per lecture and is never clear. Four exams make up basically your entire grade. He never gives reviews for the exams and never answers emails and if he does it's like weeks later.
Do not take him if you dont have to he only puts test grades in and does not give out test reviews.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken in College. Tests are 85% of your grade and the Homeworks are 15%. There are 4 tests including the comprehensive final. The class was all over the place and basically had to teach myself. There was a high lack of communication and the tests have no review and no graphing calculator allowed.
I am an all A student - always have been. This class was so awful it was insane. I understood everything in class made 100s on all of the homework and even brought to his attention that the correct answer WAS NOT ON THE TEST. And I still got a C. The tests are not at all like the class or homework. You can understand everything and still fail.
This was probably the worst class I've ever taken. Professor McCabe was friendly, but very unorganized. I do not recommend.
This class is tough if you dont pay attention, but he does explain how he grades and why. He makes it clear that if you dont participate and pay attention, then you wont do well. He does explain his lectures further if asked, but doing his homework is a very good way to help in his class.
Glenn doesn't have the most available office hours, lots of the things he teaches in class aren't mentioned in the homework, he doesn't care if you have learning disabilities Glenn still won't help you, and even after the fatal February Texas blizzard in 2021 he still didn't care if you had a chance to understand the material or not. He won't care.
course: 4 test (85% of grade) and homework assignments (15%) given after every lecture that come straight out of the textbook. final is cumulative. He's always saying "we should know this from our algebra days" like youre already supposed to know. Im not good at math so i struggled in this course. wouldnt recommend this guy if you struggle w math.
One of the worst teachers I've had at texas state Uncaring unorganized and just not a good teacher. He expects you to just know everything and never communivates well with class. AVOID AT COSTS. The mean score for each test went down and down to the point that the highest grade in a class of 50 on the 3rd exam was an 88.
I took Professor McCabe for MATH 1319 and 1329. Despite lots of negative reviews about him, I actually really liked him as a person. He doesnt teach everything that will be on the homework. 1329 tests were short and in my opinion, way easier than the homework assignments. Homework takes a long time to do for each lesson. 3 tests and a final.
This is probably one of the hardest math classes I have taken. He has pretty good lectures but they consist of a lot of material and are very time consuming. Gives homework every single day and a lot of questions on it. So far in the class, he has not given us any curve even with low averages of about 50%. Very nice guy but doesn't respond to email
This isnt a class that can be done easily. Effort is needed to pass. Going to office hours will help a lot with the material. Put in the work and cram before tests and you will pass. If you dont put in the work say hi the the teach next semester.
This isnt a class that can be done easily. Effort is needed. Going to office hours will help A LOT. Put in the work every day. Yes thats right you have to study this class every day. IT IS NOT CRAM-ABLE!*.If you dont put in the work say hi the the teach next semester. *standard disclaimer-should you choose to cram you will get a D at best
Tests are everything, don't expect email replies.
He gave good lectures and is helpful in office hours more so than in class. There is homework everyday and doesnt always teach everything on homework but will help if you ask. He is regardless one of my favorite professors and i am taking him again for math 1329. The tests aren't nearly as hard as the homework and he tries to help you out.
Professor McCabe is a great professor. If you don't get what you a learning in his class I suggest you go to his office hours because he will make it easy and go over things slow until you get it. One of the classes that he teaches 1329, is very hard so people may give him a bed rep, however its that class that is hard not him.
Pretty straightforward, almost all of your grade is determined by four tests, they were really easy and he gave equations for every test. His lectures can get a little bit boring, but overall they were really informative and easy to understand. He was pretty great about answering questions in class.
Lectures are long and feel informative until you open the hw up and realize a majority of the problems weren't touched in class. Your 4 or 5 tests you'll take will make up for more than 80% of your overall grade. Not only that, he has closed our grades behind a lock, so nobody in the class has known their grade since the beginning of the semester.
The workload is mostly homework thats online and due the day of the test but there are videos that explain the problems so its not so bad. The problems on the homework is usually a lot harder than the questions on the tests. the tests are 85% so it is a little stressful but its easier than the homework. he is good at teaching and is very thorough.
All I'm going to say is that McCabe isn't a bad teacher, he's teaching METHODS on the other hand are poor and difficult to comprehend, so if you are already aware that you struggle in math (like me) I advise you look into another professor with different teaching ways.
The content of this course is difficult, however if you show up to every class and pay attention it will help you tremendously. Office hours are on zoom and he is very engaging and helpful. You can ask him to work through specific homework questions during office hours. Tests are worth 85% so make sure to study and the homework is rough but doable.
BE PREPARED FOR LOTS OF HOMEWORK Professor McCabe was hilarious but his tests and exams were HARD. Even tho attendance wasn't mandatory, still go and pay attention (don't be like me) and practice doing the hw assignments cause some of them will be on tests and exams
professor mccabe was by far one of the best professors i've taken. i would always go to his office hours and he would guide me step by step on the material that i needed help on. he tries his best to cover all the material in the lectures, and he also has days before exams where everyone asks questions for extra help
He's a smart professor and is good at teaching and receptive to questions, but be aware, there is a LOT of HW. The tests are difficult and make a large portion of your grade. No notes, no graphing calculators... Course moves quick, you MUST attend class to do good if you miss even a single day it will set you back significantly.
McCabe was a good teacher but the Test where the worst part. NO NOTES,NO GRAPHING CALC,NO STUDY GUIDE. I would definitely take another professor because they give test reviews exactly like the quiz and allow note cards.
Very difficult class, I showed up almost every day, did the HW, and went to math cats consistently. This class was challenging. Very traditional style math class, with tons of hw, no notes on tests, no graphing calculators, no extra credit, and no makeups. The professor offers no ways to try and improve your grade. BE CAUTIOUS of this class!
Professor McCabe is very intelligent on the subject, but is not the best teacher. I found myself not understanding his work which led me to go to math cats almost everyday. I studied for countless hours before tests and still struggled. There are NO studyguides and lots of hw before tests. Not to mention tests make up 85% of your grade!
85 percent of your grade are tests, and they are ROUGH. You don't get any study guide or references, but if you grind the homework, you'll do great on the tests. He issues a checklist, and if you tackle those subjects on the HW, tests will be smooth sailing. Office hours are very helpful for learning the concepts too. No curves or grade rounding.
His lectures are straightforward and he explains things well. There are 3 tests and a final (85% of the grade) plus a lot of homework (15% of the grade). Tests were free response, no graphing calculator or notes. There isn't any extra credit but if you go to his office hours he will help you. You MUST study a few days before the test to do well.
He honestly is awesome! GO TO CLASS!! He explains things very in depth, and the homework is exactly what the test is over. 85% of the grade is tests but they are easy if you study. He really helps in office hours too if you need any clarification. People who give him one star most likely do not try or do not go to class.
Exams are 85% of your grade, and homework is only 15%. I definitely recommend looking for a different professor if you're not a good test-taker. He's sweet and knows what he's talking about; however, lectures are very long and boring. You sit down in class, take out your pencil and paper, and you write notes for the entirety of the class.
His lectures are straightforward and explains it very well. 85% of your grade is mostly exams so go to class! His office hours are really helpful. There's no exam review nor extra credit so your notes and homework are your only way of studying.
He is a great professor but make sure you do every single homework. The exams are worth 85% of the grade and typically have about 18 questions other than the final which is about 30. The homework will definitely be helpful in the long run. He offers no extra credit but is super willing to help you if you need it during office hours.
Great professor, it was really easy to learn from him. The only thing is that quizes weren't really emphasized but usually take place every class period. Tests are easy if you pay attention and at-least know what you're doing you wont get a horrible grade! highly recommend!
McCabe only takes Ws, tests were so easy and homework is online with unlimited attempts. Attendance wasn't mandatory and he was so chill & kind. I'm terrible at math and genuinely enjoyed this class.
Took his MATH 1329 course over the summer and had a great time. You will miss out on lots of content if you skip his class but attendance wasn't mandatory. Grading is heavily reliant on exams but he gives partial credit back on test problems if you are close. His homework assignments can be a bit hard but they really helped me prepare for the exams
Overall He is a nice professor, but to start off he never answers emails. For my final i could not attend because I was at the hospital so i emailed him to excuse my absence but he never answered. You have to go to class to take notes in order to understand because he does not post the notes in Canvas.
Exams are 85% of your grade, the issue is that he goes based off the textbook and is hard to understand and make due when you are not good at math. It would be easier if the notes weren't word for word of the textbook. I would go with someone that explains the material better. Ended with a C+ he rounded my grade to a B.
Nothing bad with Professor McCabe himself, he just chooses a very traditional style to teach, and as someone who struggles with math, I found it difficult. VERY test heavy, it is 85% of your grade I wouldn't recommend him to someone who isn't a good test taker. Overall, not a horrible time but I did struggle at points. Also doesn't reply to emails.
This class was decently easy as long as you go to class everyday and do the homework. He's very nice and always open for office hours.
This class is relatively easy if you go to class everyday and do the homework. He's available in office hours a lot where he can help you with any part of the homework. All of the homework for a section is due the day of the test, and you get multiple chances.
If you're ok with an 85% Test and 15% Homework grading policy then this class is for you. The only positive part of this course is that the professor is pretty helpful with questions and has no attendance requirement however it is easy to fall behind in this course. I almost failed this class at one point
Zero extra credit. 85% of the grade comes from tests. Show up to class and do the HW and you'll be fine. Nice teacher. Go to office hours if you need help.
Great professor just a harder class.
In reality Professor McCabe was not really the problem. I personally struggled on the grading policy that he has. Having the exams be 85 percent was a little outrageous to me. However hes an amazing professor that really helped me after I failed his first exam. I would recommend finding your way of studying and really take good notes.
The exams are worth 85% of your grade, which is a little absurd. There is a decent amount of homework given out, which is not very hard. Overall, he is a good professor who explains and goes into details a good amount throughout the lecture.
He wasn't great at explaining during lectures but he did do a ton of examples. Not the best but not the worst.
Attendance very mandatory, no notes posted so if you miss it, you miss it. Exams are worth 85% of grade, I never missed a class and still made Bs on them. 2 homeworks a week usually both take an hour each. Very straight-to-the-point teaching style, but rarely keeps you in class the whole time. Not bad, but exams make the class difficult.
Tough class but he is a very good professor, gives great assistance in office hours.
Doesn't work with you at all, I didn't understand the work so I would go to office hours that still didn't help, I had to go teach myself. Tests make or break you and they are worth majority of your grade. DONT TAKE HIM
Glenn is a nice guy, is always willing to help, but you have to lock in to pass his class. The tests are 85% percent of your grade and the homework is online but it really doesn't help you that much if you fail a test. I would highly recommend that you do go to class. His test aren't that hard you just really have to pay attention during lectures.
I thought McCabe was a good professor but the 85% for exams is a bit much. To be fair, the exam questions are directly from cengage/hw. So, you can use those to make your own test review since there isn't one provided. 3 midterms with a final that can count twice by replacing your lowest exam grade. Also, very helpful in office hrs.
I would not take his class again.
