True teacher who cares about his students.
This is a teacher who cares about his students and can teach in an upliftin way.
very nice guy
great teacher
I loved his visuals in class..it made chemistry interesting
Awesome teacher, made chem interesting. Very clear and approachable, and he really cares.

a great professor. he obviously likes what he does and he does it extremely well. you can tell he cares about his students. i only wished he taught every class i had. instructors like him are one in a million.
great teacher, i enjoyed attending his class. he was very clear with his explanations, you can tell the he is passionate about his work!
Not an easy class, but he sure does blow up a lot of stuff.
Glenn made chemistry a little more interesting, and more accessible for people who aren't into chemistry (ie most bio majors).
BEST TEACHER EVER
i remember liking millhauser, but now i can't remember why.

He is quite condecending, has racial preferences with his students and had the audacity to misinform me during office hours, he will smile in your face and do got knows what when you are not around. He thinks undergraduates are annoying and overall he plays favorites and you already know i wasn't one of them!!

Great lecturer. Doesn't seem to care about his students though, which was obvious with his one, unflexible office hour that was the same time as other classes. Very cold at office hours. Talks like he's way beyond the students, can't get down to the students' level to explain concepts. Always passes responsibilities off to the TA's. Never avail.
I barely passed AP Chem in high school and got a 1 on my exam. I had not idea what I was going into this year, but now I'm at the top of my class! Great lecturer and makes chemistry interesting, even if you're not into it! I hated chem; now it's my favorite class.
He tends to talk really fast. You really need to do your reading in order to understand the things he lectures about. He's a go lecturer and he knows what he's talking about. He is a fair professor so he's not going to expect you to memorize the whole entire periodic table or Ka or Kb.
He is a cool guy, felt like i learned more in the sections though, seems really nice, but I was bored in most of his classe, except when he did his cool little expirments!
He moves at a very fast pace. Sometimes it is very hard to keep up. Gotta stay on top of the readings 100% of the time.
Millhauser legitimately wants you to learn the material and is genuinely concerned with you understanding of the curriculum. He expects you to be on top of the hw and readings, but this is already assumed. Overall, he explains things with great clarity!
He's is great professor. His lectures are always clear and he does not rush at all. His in class demonstrations and the YouTube videos really made Chemistry interesting. The 2 midterms were easy were easy but his final was hard. I highly recommend him.
The online homework is manageable and very helpful. Midterms are not that bad. The final was hard, but only because I didn't study as much as I should have. Thankfully, he curved all the tests.
Glenn is a great teacher I thought. He is pretty enthusiastic and knew what he was talking about. Definably a professor you won't be upset with. I got a D on my first two mid terms, and an A on the final and still manged to get a B in the class.
He didn't really teach in a way that I would really understand what we were doing. When he went through the examples they made sense but when I looked at my notes later I didn't really know what was going on. I feel like he could've gone more in depth through the procedure.
Knows material very well and does a good job of explaining and communicating it. The online homework seemed like good preparation for the two midterms and final which were all pretty reasonable with proper preparation.
He is a great professor and obviously knows what he is talking about. He is also very funny during lecture especially when learning difficult material which really helps relax the class. He is also very approachable and helpful after class if you have any questions. I ran into him the other day and he was extremely nice and polite.
Do not take for GE, take Astro 6. Hw online weekly, cheaper to buy from website. Hw is harder than midterms/final. Teacher is passionate and serious, but also enjoyable. Problems given to study for midterms/finals are EXACTLY whats on tests! Final's only on last 2 chapters.
Good teacher. Knew his materials and came prepared. Demonstrated some cool chem stuff in class with reactions and stuff. Very friendly/nice. Okayish midterms and finals. Just read and completely understand the material and you'll be fine
Milhauser for Chem1A was amazing. He showed interest in Chemistry and certainly knowledge, and best of all he explained everything with great clarity. Fair professor. Curved the final 5 problems, which was significant since it was only out of 35 problems.
This guy gives us a pratice midterm that has nothing to do with the actual midterm.. Thats a no-no in college!
Clear lecturer who clearly knows his material. However, last midterm was in no way shape or form similar to either the homework or past midterms. Aside from that, he' s a great teacher who is willing to spend extra time explaining difficult concepts
Reading before the lecture helps tons. Nothing he gives you is impossible, you just have to spend time on it. He is really funny and I wish I had gone to his office hours because he really wants his students to pass. Glenn does some really cool demonstrations for the class too. You can use a cheat sheet on the midterms as well.
Professor Millhauser by far is a Great Professor, he really has a passion for what he does. I highly recommend going to his office hours to get help on homework or to get your questions answered he is extremely willing to help. His midterms are fair as long as you STUDY! And they are multiple choice. Take Chem 1A with Millhauser
Passionate about chemistry, has a sense of humor, and respectful towards his students. Lectures are interesting and his exams are pretty straight forward. The practice exams are pretty similar to the real ones.
Great teacher! Clear in class and very helpful during office hours. Allows a cheat during tests, which is very helpful. As long as you know the concepts and do a few extra problems from the textbook, you can get a high A.
Really good professor. He is funny and makes his lectures interesting. He really wants his students to learn the material and do well. First practice midterm was almost identical to the real thing, while the second one was nothing like it. He also lets you have cheat sheets on the midterms and final.
I didn't pass his class..But he was a really great professor. i think I failed because I wasn't learning as fast as his pace and fell behind, but he is really clear on explaining, especially giving different types of examples. His tests were average..It wasn't the easiest. But overall he wasn't that bad!
good at explaining material, tests were very fair. i was taking another upper div chem class & lab at the same time as his class & as such couldn't devote as much atn to the class as needed. passed alright but was close to the next highest grade. emailed him about it & at first he was nice but then replied with intent to insult me.
He is a very good teacher and explains very well. Tests were multiple choice and fair, he allowed a formula sheet which was great
Only goes over simple example problems, but once you get to the homework, you have to figure out everything else by yourself. He shows enthusiasm for this topic, but doesn't do very well in teaching it.
He didnt go over homework type problems in class so when it came time for that it was super hard each week. his exams were nothing like the practice ones. not a great experience in my first college chem class.
Lectures were interesting, but not comprehensive. Class started off pretty easy but then got increasingly difficult towards the end. Final was mostly acids/base buffers which was covered towards the end of class. Got a B in the class but I feel like I could've done better with Roland or other teachers.
Fantastic professor. Fantastic human being on the side, too. He's such an approachable guy - hilarious, helpful, and kind. If you can, do yourself a favor and TAKE THIS CLASS. It'll be the hardest part of your quarter probably maybe I dunno 'bout you geniuses, but. Take this class. You learn so, so much. Isn't that the point of this whole thing?
Read the book and he says to read it, go to lecture, and do your homework on time. You'll do fine. He's a great professor.
If you're really interested in enjoy chemistry, Millhauser is the professor to choose! He is absolutely passionate about his subject, which could be very inspirational to the chemistry enthusiast. If you're just trying to bs your way through chemistry (prereq or ge) choose another professor, his homework can be challenging from time to time!
Great overall professor! Attend class and discussion and you'll be just fine! He is extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject which is very helpful.
Glenn was a good teacher but his notes were a bit unorganized. His tests were really hard because they were multiple choice 20-25 HARD questions with an hour time limit and no partial credit (Randa's class had this). I tried really hard in this class and still got a C. I got D's on every test, though.. he does curve in the end, which is nice.
I really enjoyed his class, the tests were tough, but they are manageable.
He's a very good teacher with interesting lectures. His passion for the subject is clearly visible. Although, I was bummed when I seeked help when I felt I was about to fail the class, he just responded that he couldn't do anything, he didn't even offer me his help. His midterms are okay and the final was just hard.
#TRILLHAUSER# ALSO DOES MAGIC
Glenn is a great guy and a really great teacher. He expects a lot from his students so you are going to have to work for your grade. He is very passionate about chem. His demos were the best and he always let class out early. He responds quickly to emails. I worked pretty hard in this class and I took AP Chem in high school and I still got a B.
Great teacher, cares for his students. Take his advice, go to class, read the book, it helps!! Test are okay, can be a bit long, but he makes review questions so you know what is on the test and he's specific on what will be on the exams.
Does not explain things well. I needed to teach myself most of the material.
He's a great teacher, makes sure the entire class understands a subject before moving on. Sometimes moves a little fast in class, but open to slowing down. Study for tests and make sure to make a good cheat sheet! Always very helpful and approachable.
A good chemistry professor and enjoys what he lectures. Do not be late and do not leave early from any of his lectures or he will call you out on it. More strict than what I'm used to and if you have your phone out or your sleeping, you will be called out. His exams are hard but chem is hard. Be prepared to read and make sue to attend office hours.
Millhauser was a wonderful teacher that loves chem! He is also very dad-funny, but serious at the same time. His writing may be hard to read sometimes, but his lectures are full of info
Millhauser loves chemistry and likes students, he just isn't good at teaching. Many topics were either discussed briefly or completely left out of lecture, with the excuse that they were covered in the textbook. In fact, a problem from chem 1C appeared in one of the midterms. How did that even happen? You have to work HARD to get an A.
One of my favorite professors at UCSC so far. His passion for chemistry is contagious. He likes to focus on the concepts behind chemical calculations, which I enjoyed. He will provide a lot of visual aid, which makes chemistry easier for my mind to wrap around. Additionally, he will relate chemistry to real-life events (i.e. Flint water crisis).
He doesn't post his notes online, he will call you out if you leave class early or disrupt. I really did not like the material of 1B, but I think he is a nice guy.
Great professor! He is very clear in his lectures and explains things very well. His office hours are also very useful if you are struggling to understand a concept. He's not the easiest professor, but if you want to get a good grasp on the material, I would recommend him.
Millhauser is really helpful and he wants his students to succeed. While some professors like giving hard tests, Millhauser gives tests that are reasonable. If you study hard, you'll do well. If you don't, you won't.
Glenn is an awesome prof. He's a little strict and he pushes you hard, but he really loves what he teaches and he makes a point of teaching well; he always gave the best explainarion for the material that I could find anywhere. I've also never had a professor be so prompt with returning grades on tests -- he works just as hard as he expects you to.
Professor Millhauser is great at simplifying complex concepts! He gives us plenty of examples relevant to biology, environmental science and current events. Chem 1B is a fun class, but you need to actively read the textbook if you want to understand the material. Tests are similar to the hw and practice, so understand the problems!
Glenn is thoughtful, intelligent and a great lecturer. He is very helpful and fun in office hours. Get to know him. He does not post notes online so go to every lecture. Favorite chem professor at UCSC!
If you go to class and keep up with reading the book you'll have no problem with the class. Best part is before the midterm and final exam he has review sessions by his TA's and go through the entire practice exam with you. Glenn M. will explain things but there are topics where he will fly by and will be material you'll have to learn on your own.
My favorite chem professor so far!! He always had a super positive attitude in class and is great at explaining things. He's not a super easy teacher but he's a great one!
With some topics he's really clear & easy to understand, but with others he would just kind of skim & then expect us to know how to do it. He does not curve at all, his tests aren't impossible but you definitely need to study even though you get a cheat sheet. He calls people out who come in late or leave early and will waste class time to do it
Make sure you go to class, he doesn't post his lectures on webcast and all the major topics are covered on his midterms. He doesn't curve tests, or overall grades at the end of the quarter so you actually need to do well in the class to pass. Super cool guy, is super fair on his tests and studying material.
Overall a good professors. He shows passion for teaching and his lectures are decent. The only problem is that he possess a god complex. He wastes so much time complaining about how students leave 5 mins early or how he wont curve .2% because it's "unethical" when in reality he is one of the only science teachers to not curve. GO TO MSI TO PASS!!!!
Professor Millhauser is quite strict. He's very serious and professional about his subject, and he expects his students to be too. That being said, the material he teaches is clear and the homework and practice tests exactly replicate what will be on the exams.
Glenn's lectures aren't bland at all because of his jokes. He's just a funny guy. This class was pretty easy. The second midterm on orbitals was a bit harder than the final. Study the practice sheets, they were previous midterms, although there were a couple of questions that weren't exactly the same as the practice. GT CLASS. U WILL FALL BEHIND.
I found the class hard, even after going to MSI I still felt confused. He sometimes asked questions that we never encountered on his tests. Lecture is mandatory since he doesn't post notes. Also, his notes weren't that great tbh
He tries to be much more engaging with this class, and he brought in things like models and had demonstrations. As for the exams, I thought they were quite straightforward, and pretty fair. Even though I didn't study for this class at all, I still did decent. Pay attention in class and put the formulas in your cheat sheet, and you will do fine.
good teacher, funny guy. He seems super anal retentive at first but he just respects learning and wld like respect back. Taught what was in 1A a little too so you could take 1B first.... His tests made sense too!
Amazing and detailed lectures. Shows examples during class to give you a better understanding of what he's teaching. Two midterms and one final. WebAssign homework due every Friday night (11:59 PM).
I love Glen he was great teacher. He is very kind and does care if you pass or fail. If you go to your discussions sessions and the review sessions you'll be fine.
He was great! Very understanding and really cares if you pass or fail. Gives great real-life examples in lecture. As long as you go to lecture you will pass.
Took his class during rona season and it was really good. Exams were fair and straightforward, no curveballs. If you understand the homework and lectures, you'll do fine. You can tell he's passionate about chem from his lectures. He made the final optional and shows that he cares about his students.
I took this course online during COVID-19. The lectures were online from 2018 but were really informational and questions he goes over relate directly to exams. Prof and TAs are great at responding in section and outside of class. Would totally recommend, especially for office hours. Final was also made optional and could only improve our grade.
This class is definitely a rough one to take remotely, but Prof Millhauser did an amazing job. Him and his TAs were by far the most helpful of all my courses. Lectures were engaging, and the exams accurately reflected the homework assignments.
I took this class remotely, and it was a very pleasant experience. All of the test questions were reasonable, and WebAssign was very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Millhauser was very responsive to any attempt of communication, whether that be through e-mail, office hours, or canvas. I found the lectures to be unnecessary.
Great lectures that are clear and direct. Reinforces complex ideas in an easy manner. The homework is fine, just long, and typing in the answers on Webassign is a pain in the ass. I don't like chem, and I still don't. Had to take one course due to my major. If you have to do one chem course, I suggest this class.
