Wise & witty!
great teacher and interesting class
fun class but a little hard
funny guy, looks like he should have been in a 1960's film... you'll see him on thursday nights at the zoo bar!!
He is a great teacher who takes a personal interest in his students improving their writing. The books are interesting and he keeps the classroom discussion lively. You also learn a lot through peer grading.
Excellent writing professor. Willing to help at anytime.
best teacher alive! Gotta love the D&G glasses and the spiked 'new age' hair that he and the kids do these days . . . .he IS a God- a satisfied one!!
Awesome Prof! Helps your writing skills so much and you learn so much about the city. Have a problem with his grading go in and talk to him and he will talk it though and help you!
He was the most disorganized teachers I've ever had. He never knew what he was doing. We started books and never finished them, and our discussions were all based on random comments. His grading comments never led you in the right direction to improve.
nice, helpful, & laid-back, but somewhat disorganized. he crammed 3 papers into the last week of school.
Hilarious guy--is the epitamy of what a college professor should be; he works very hard to improve your writing and is understanding. His only down-sides are disorganization and ocassional condescending attitude. Nonetheless his classes are worth taking.
the girl who wrote the mean comment three below this one was awful. she spent the whole semester trying to sabbotage the class. despite how dreadful this girl was, moomau was great. he really cared about our writing and went out of his way to help.
Great professor, hard grader though. Cares about our writing. Hard to get an A. Flexible with the sylabus. Most of class time is discussion or peer-edition. Also learned a lot of technicalities in writing.
He's great. Go to office hours and he'll tell you exactly what you need to do to improve your writing. This is my favourite class. I highly recommend.
Moomau is great. He really challenges his students to improve their writing. I look forward to his class because he makes it both lively and entertaining. All of the peer editing is extremely helpful.
Moomau is awesome. He has you write about what you want to write about. Office hours are amazing--he's really interesting in helping you find your voice. Workshops are okay, it just depends on whose in the class. Cool professor.
Honors English felt like I was writing to someone elses standards rather than finding my own voice like everyone else suggested. He's very particular, which may help your writing improve, but grades seldom reflect the true effort spent on assignments. He'll help you, but can be VERY intimidating.
VERY HELPFUL PROF! one of the best I'v ever had. Will recommend him for anyone.Very nice guy! easily accessible! very helpful! a fair grader! visit him in office hours!!
Moomau likes having multiple papers and projects worked on at the same time which can be very frustrating. He cares about our class but sometimes doodles on the board and is easily distractible. Some classes are entirely random comments and others are so full of tasks it takes the whole period.
Honestly, he is the best prof I've had yet. He is a bit disorganized and hands out a plethora of random papers, but he is always willing to help. My writing has improved a lot just from 1 semester. If you have the chance to take his class, do it. You won't regret it.
His humor, sarcasm and wit made class a joy to go to. He helps students find their voice through the essays and essentially lets everyone write about what they want. Easy class as long as you do the work.
fabulous professor. he's engaging and cares about students. office hours are particularly helpful, and he is receptive to students writing about controversial or risque topics. really encourages the creative process.
He assigns tough papers but is really helpful in reviewing them and getting you to revise them. Revision is key! He's a very engaging prof and I highly recommend him.
Great guy, great teacher. His class is difficult at times, but he goes out of his way to help you. He passes out a million papers, but his class is stimulating and he makes class interesting. Moomau is the man!
Moomau is pretty much best ever. Funny, open with students, always has an..interesting.. story to tell. Students feel welcome due to comment of the day. If you work hard to make changes to papers, you will do very well in the class. Come on, any guy who has his very own facebook fan club cant be too bad. Anyways, I loved him. Highly Reccomend
Wow... what a great professor. You feel like you're hanging out with a friend opposed to being in class. Not to mention, he comes into class with the most random stories that you're left there asking yourself "did he just say that???". Really great guy and the best teacher the English department has...take a class with him. You'll love the guy.
He's the apple of my eye. He makes coming to class easy. And he makes AU worth it.
funny and sarcastic make it a class to look forward to. the papers are hard but he's always more then willing to help out. A MUST have professor.
My favorite teacher, you must take his class! He is sarcastic, random, and easy going so class is great. And I learned so much in his class! He is a pretty hard grader, but he gives you a ton of help so you can easily improve your grade from your first draft to final draft. I really learned how to revise my papers and be concise.
Moomau is a really great guy and a great professor! There are no stupid books to read for his college writing class, only occasional really short readings. His assignments are pretty clear, but he encourages you to think for yourself and do your own thing. You do have to go to class, but he's worth it. Really helpful in office hours! Take Him!
Moomau is just one of those professors you must have while at AU. He's funny, sarcastic and I love the random thoughts we gave at the beginning of class. Take his lit class!
Amazing professor, amazing person. Fantastic sense of humor. Demands a lot, but makes it interesting so you actually want to do the work.
Moomau is one of the best professors that I've had at AU- he's so fun and smart, and he plays in a jazz band! An all around awesome guy, and a STONE FOX to boot. Take his class, you'll learn alot and have eye candy on top of it.
Moomau is an interesting fellow- very cynical, demanding, experienced, arrogant, and knowledgeable. Research paper is assigned as first assignment and gives a long time to complete. He wants you to change your work and if you do so- he'll give you a high mark. My writing's def. improved and despite some periods of frustration- it paid off :D
Absolutely the best writing professor I've ever had. Challenges his students to write at their best level, funny as hell, and while his personality can be a little intimidating during office hours, he is DEFINITELY worth seeing-- a very inspiring person and professor.
Moomau is awesome. He's so helpful and funny during class. Though projects do overlap, he's understanding and doesn't make you turn in two assignments on the same day. He's a very clear grader and is ALWAYS willing to help when needed.
This is the best writing professor I've ever had. He cares about the student and he is very helpful. I would definitely take his classes in the future.
Moomau is a great professor. His grading is tough and his critiques are harsh, but in the end your writing will definitely improve. He has mandatory meetings before the final drafts of the most important papers are due; these are very helpful. Encourages students to meet with him or email with questions.
He's a Lit Professor? He has never read To Kill A Mockingbird.
Prof. Moomau creates a unique atmosphere, where everyone gets to know each other and feels comfortable contributing to class discussions. He is cool, laid back, and requires a reasonable, not excessive, workload. One thing is for certain, you will walk away with a true appreciation and understanding of what it takes to be a good writer.
Prof. Moomau creates a unique atmosphere, where everyone gets to know each other and feels comfortable contributing to class discussions. Moomau is one of the best lit professor at AU. He can be a little intimidating one-on-one, but he does create a comfortable atmosphere in the classroom. His writing assignments are fun so they're pretty easy to do. You have to do the readings and his grading is tough, but it isn't impossible to do well. I got an A-, but trust me, it wasn't easy.
THE COOLEST DUDE EVER. You must take Prof. Moomau at some point while you're at AU. He's hilarious, helpful, and the epitome of cool. Sitting in class feels like your chilling over coffee, not sitting through lecture. Plus, he's kinda hot.
Moomau is awesome! He is a snappy dresser and his wit and class comments are just as great! He sets really interesting assignments, and I have improved enormously as a writer after taking his class. He is probably the professor I would rate the highest and recommend 100% to take.
I had a nice grade in his class until one slip up somehow dropped my grade. A lot. In my opinion, if you want to do well, watch what you say and do, always be on top of things, and never mess up or act human. You really have to impress him to get an A. Good luck, and if you're in college writing, I'd say find another section. It's not worth it.
Awesome Prof. His class offers real world experiences. Workshops also help you see what you're doing wrong and need to improve. He's also very understanding about personal issues. (The previous rater's "slip up" screwed over her whole group not to mention a charter school, so ignore her.) Definitely take this class. Moomau's great.
Disorganized, unprepared, and arrogant. Didn't seem to know what he was doing. I was very surprised after all the good reviews. I would not recommend.
A very cool guy, friendly. Though has a style that causes some people to feel occasionally slightly intimidated. Knows his stuff, creates a nice atmosphere to the class. Not the easiest of graders but is very supportive and his feedback is better than most. If you want to get to know a cool and interesting professor take his class. A professional.
MOOMAU IS AWESOME!! his random comments in the beginning of class make being there enjoyable and his random tangents about his confusion with new technology make the class funny. harsh grader at first, but then when you take his advice, he softens up. great teacher. one of the best at AU.
Professor Moomau has a great personality, and does a great job of facilitating discussions. But, He is very disorganized and gives a lot of work. Most of this work is busy work, and his style of teaching can be un-effective most of the time. Biggest plus is his random comments, great way to start a class.Only take his class if you like thesubject
Professor Moomau is definitely one of the best professors at AU! He truly cares about his students and is willing to help them anyway he can. He expects you to try to do your best and is very understanding when it comes to deadlines. If you have a chance to take college writing, take it with Moomau!
He's a great professor, at times... He is very headstrong and stubborn. And for a 100 level class there is WAY too much work. I would advise NOT taking him, at least not for college writing because it shouldn't be that stressful or difficult.
Absent-minded, nutty, crass, local and blunt all describe professor Glenn Moomau: and they do him great justice. If there's one thing he knows how to do, it's get your writing up to snuff. Moomau breaks the mold of professors, drawing from real experience to make you value your own work that much more. By the end, your writing will be far better
Incredibly lazy professor that has no long term plans of what to do. Returns papers late. For the main paper, we wrote on water. Yup, water. Everything from the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis to more was allowed. Do not take ever.
He's got a great personality and he's tons of fun in class. Sometimes he goes off on tangents but his discussions are always really fun and interesting. He doesn't give too much work and if you do what he gives you, you'll be perfectly fine. He really helps you with your writing too, mine got so much better from this class!
Great theme on cyberculture with interesting books. His process for writing in this class is well-structured; he will get your writing up to par. Can be a bit boring in class, but is very helpful in office hours and always accessible via email. Overall, great professor.
Moomau is an intriguing teacher. He engages the class with his humor and laid back attitude. He's very open to new facts and tries to keep up with popular culture. He's very approachable and friendly. I highly recommend his class.
Moomau is such a great professor! He is really helpful in office hour and he will postpone the deadline if you have so many essays to due that day. Absent-minded. I highly recommend his class!!
Moomau is awesome. Really helpful and appreciates hard work. Laid-back and has a great sense of humor.
Although hard, this professor rocked. Class was always fun, and he really knows his stuff.
Moomau is awesome! He is really helpful during office hour and you will never feel bored in his class. However, his class is tough and he requires for a minimum 12 pages long essay at the end of the class. But you will learn a lot!
Nice professor. You should let the class more valuable
Professor Moomau is one of my favorite professors I've had at AU. He is funny, interesting and you will never be bored in his class. As long as you do the homework and essays, his class is completely manageable. Peer reviews get to be a bit long, but other than that he is great (and really helpful during office hours!) I highly recommend him.
Professor Moomau is alright. I appreciated his sense of humor and how he interacts with his students, but he can be kind of a wise-ass at times. His assignments appear to be pointless and he is a really hard grader when it comes to essays and papers. If you don't like to be harassed I wouldn't take his class. Besides that he is bearable and funny.
He's very funny, but his jokes often are aimed at people in the class. If you're sensitive I wouldn't recommend. Also, his absurd amount of paper waste really bothers me. ESPECIALLY when it can be easily reduced. He's not very considerate and hates to be disagreed with. It is a LOT of work, but he's very flexible with the topics of the papers
This was my favorite professor my first semester at American. He had a great attitude and loved teaching. He gives midterm and final study guides that follow the exam exactly. Participation is easy if you do the minimal readings. You have to write two papers and read one of everyone's papers throughout the semester. Learned a ton about writing.
One of my favorite professors at AU. It's hard to make a writing requirement fun, but he was able to do it. He's very helpful and gives good feedback on papers, but he's also hilarious and super sarcastic. The three tests are super easy; he tells you exactly what's on them, and he offers assistance with the two essays. I'm going to miss having him.
I had Moomau for my Freshman, first semester, Writing 100 class. He's a very tough grader when it comes to papers. He wants everything right and done perfectly, but he's not horribly nit-picky about little things; on "quests" he's not as harsh. He definitely assigns a lot of assignments, so basically, get ready to read, write, repeat.
Moomau is a great professor. He really wants everyone to succeed and if you put in the work, he will meet you halfway.
Moomau is one of the best profs at AU. If you visit him during office hours and talk to him in-depth about your work, he offers great advice and definitely appreciates the extra effort.
I loved him so much!!! He is one of my favorite profs. I could really talk to him about anything. He is very helpful and gives great feedback and really interested in students ideas.
Moomau is strict and expects effort, but he really wants you to succeed and is excited to help his students do better. Attendance and participation are mandatory, attendence without participation is the same as not being in class to him, and any tardiness effects your grade. He is a nice and caring person in a grumpy grandpa way. would recommend
Moomau is incredibly helpful and kind and has clear expectations for his assignments. 3 papers only and then various homework. There could be other sections that are easier but you learn a lot from Moomau
Prof. Moomau is great for College Writing Intensified. If you want to do well, come to every class and //PARTICIPATE//, plus come to office hours. He clearly really enjoys teaching and helping students become better writers, and the classes are a pretty good time. Don't take his jokes personally if they're at your expense.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. I have never worked so hard to learn absolutely nothing. He forces you to research a topic you don't know much of, which was fine at first, but that was literally all we did all semester. i wrote three papers on the same thing, just in more depth. Terrible professor.
Moomau is the perfect professor for college writing. He is extremely enthusiastic and cares about his students. He gives lots of attention to detail so be prepared for a lot of re-writing and drafts. He was very helpful during office hours and always willing to help and give extensions.
He's a real character, and discussions/lectures were pretty interesting. Very big on verbal participation. Don't skip class! Do the readings (or at least skim them) before class or you will sit confused for an hour.
Professor is really good in lecture, he's a very interesting character and class is always interesting. Attendance is absolutely mandatory, and you need to do all the readings because class is just breaking those down. There's a few big projects that are quite alot of work, but he's very helpful, and will give you an extension if you need one.
I absolutely hated this class. The topic he gives you at the beginning of the semester is what youll be writing 4-5 drafts for during the entire class. Stay within this topic, even if he says you dont have to, bc at the end hell dock points. Be prepared for reading homework twice a week. Bring all the readings to class or hell mark you absent.
Great professor. As long as you show up, make an effort to do the readings and participate, you will be more than fine. Our class was based around three papers and he let us pick what we wanted to write about, which was awesome. Definitely take his class.
Moomau gives a lotttt of work. His essay prompts are pretty complex and lengthy but nothing that can't be done. He is a very sweet guy and cares for his students. Just get ready to read and participate.
He gives lengthy homework assignments that are worth 20% of your grade and the entire class revolves around the homework so if you dont do it youre screwed. He gave very little feedback for my final paper so I thought it was fine and then gave me a horrible grade. Grades everything at the last minute as well so I didnt know. Do not recommend
My experience with him was positive, and I found him a great professor. He is strict when it comes to participation, but simply wants people to try their best. The assignments are plentiful and frustrating, but he is accessible outside of office hours and was helpful. I feel like I gained from this class.
Professor Moomau is a really good, caring teacher. He does make you earn your grade but he explains all of his directions well and it feels like he genuinely wants you to succeed. The class is mainly based around 3 papers which build off of each other so if you stay on top of your work it's a pretty natural progression. Really amazing class overall
Moomau is a great professor! If you do the homework and follow the rubrics it is not hard to get an A. He gives lots of good feedback, is accessible for office hours, and really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I would recommend him!
Nice guy, but terrible professor. Leads you in one direction when you ask for feedback, then marks you off and says something completely different for final grade. For papers he reads one portion of everybody's papers at a time, which leads him to not pay attention to individual writers pieces. Unclear and unorganized. Still can't use canvas.
I constantly felt as if he was rooting against me the whole semester. He also had a midterm, which most WRT 100 teachers do not have. Talked poorly about other professors. Unprofessional. Terrible experience.
I was S.A.'d and according to Professor Moomau, that does not count as an extenuating circumstance. He had zero details of the incident yet felt the need to tell me he did not believe me. He was not at all understanding and was unwilling to work with me to give me an incomplete, nor would he offer advice to help me finish the semester.
Professor Moomau doesn't suffer fools, so don't try to cut corners. However, if you make an effort, you'll learn so much and your writing will improve. I was nervous in his class at first, but then I went to office hours and figured out what he expected. He also really helped me understand how to use the databases for research. Great Prof!
i feel like this class made no sense and i only did well because im good at writing papers. theres a lot of homework and ultimately i didnt learn anything about how to write better.
I can see how some people don't like Prof. Moomau. There is lots of reading. It can be very easy to fall behind but you can access Prof. Moomau very easily and he is accommodating to students' needs. Communication is key if you feel you don't understand something. The Prof. will help you make your paper better if you just ask for help.
Professor Moomau is an incredibly kind and caring person, and really cares about his students. He is fairly generous with extensions on essays, as long as you give due notice. Homework can be a bit heavy but his classes are super engaging and fun.
I had Moomau in 2019. Between the pandemic and dual enrollment I've transferred twice, so I've had to take 8 college wrtg classes (hums lol). Moomau's wasn't the 1st, but it was by far the most valuable. I learned more from him in wrtg 100 than I learned in a 600 lvl writing seminar. He assigns u a semester-long topic though, and mine Sucked lmao.
I took his writing epistemology section and it was interesting enough. We wrote three large papers which we had a lot of discretion to choose what to write about which I liked. However, the Reading and Discussion Questions we had to answer before every class were a lot (although you could get away with lame answers).
Moomau was a very understanding professor and as long as you show up to class and participate you should be good. He pays attention to your growth throughout the semester and is accessible pretty much every day to help you through it if you need it. If it wasn't a WRT course id definitely take him again in the future.
The first thing I have to admit is that he will give us a lot of homework. He has an assignment called RD that runs through your semester. At the end of the semester, my RD file has 35 pages of text. This class has more homework than all my other classwork combined. But he is a good professor. If you do your job well, you get an A, just like me.
Every freshman should take this course. Going into this class, I felt lost on how to write papers, but the readings he assigned and his feedback completely fixed that for me. I now have a solid process when it comes to writing, and I can do it a lot faster too. This class requires hard work, but what you learn will help you throughout college.
I can see how some people don't like Prof. Moomau.
Great professor, he is super nice, and his feedback is very useful. The criteria is clear for 3 papers due across the semester, and he is extremely lenient in providing extensions when needed. There was a large workload, but honestly nothing that difficult.
Professor Moomau's class was my favorite this semester. He gets really excited about what he teaches and wants you to find what you are interested in. There is more reading for this class than other writing-100 classes but it is totally worth it because of how good of a teacher and person Professor Moomau is.
I had the pleasure of taking college writing with Professor Moomau first semester of freshman year. He is the reason I write the way I write today. Professor Moomau's lectures are intriguing and useful. He is quite humorous and I thoroughly enjoyed taking his class. Homework is big, so make sure you do your homework and readings.
Professor Moomau is my favorite professor at AU. I turned in two of my biggest projects super late without any good explanation and he was super supportive and caring regardless. He tends to assign a lot of work but I found that it's paid off now that I'm writing papers for other classes. He is very knowledgeable and cares about his students a lot.
Struggling in wrt 101 because of him. Reason I changed my major
Professor Moomau is a very kind professor who really cares about his student's success; he is very accommodating and accessible outside of class. The way that he presents information is helpful, clear, and manageable. He allows every student to explore their own writing style. I could not recommend him more.
I wish I didn't have to write this, but this is by far the worst experience I have had in a writing course. 3 assignments, LENGTHY homework due EVERY class & instructions are extremely unclear. Lots of busy work that takes hours sometimes. Also, the writing skills taught will not fly in any other courses, all based on his opinion as a lit prof.
Professor Moomau assigns a lot of homework. However, I actually found a lot of it helpful. He really wants you to engage in class. He cares about his students a lot, but don't catch him in a bad mood. If you are willingly to put in the work you will take a lot out of the class and receive a good grade.
Prof Moomau was an absolutely AMAZING WRT-101 Professor. Every assignment was very clear and he really helped work through them a lot. There is homework for every class but it's pretty easy and isn't graded for correctness, although doing it well does really help! I really had no issues in this class! Would def take him again.
This guy doesn't care about you. Please for your own sake don't waste a semester with this prof, you will learn nothing. He has his ego and nothing else.
Will give a lot of homework and grade subjectively.
He's not a bad teacher, but his class is weirdly hard for a Writing-100 class. There was a midterm and final for some reason?? So much daily homework that just felt like busy work. Lots of reading and he is not a chill dude. He's nice though so if you're a hard worker who wants to be engaged you will probably do better.
The workload is excessive, but the homework was very helpful not just for the in-class assignments but for any sort of writing project in both other courses and in general. Professor Moomau is one of the most caring instructors I've ever had. He is super understanding of any circumstance that may pop up, and pretty lenient as a grader.
If you want a chill freshman year or don't need a good foundation in writing don't take his class. There's a lot of homework every class and the three big papers that you complete are a lot of work, but if you show up to class and do the work you'll get an A. Professor Moomau is amazing at his job, I just was drowning in the work that we had.
He is a very nice and caring teacher gives extensions when needed and is a fairly understanding grader. He assigns a lot of busy work though and lots of reading but you don't necessarily have to do them to succeed in the class!
No words other than do not take him Just kidding but if you do...get ready to write papers with hardly any criteria, and to take both midterms and finals on readings that we didn't even discuss that much in class. He is a nice guy and I can tell he likes teaching but he shouldn't be teaching freshman imo
Professor Moomau does not give clear directions on large assignments. He also assigns a lot of homework. This class feels like it should be a less stressful class that gives you a good introduction on how to write college papers, but when taking it with Professor Moomau, it will be unnecessarily stressful and difficult.
Glenn Moomau is a great professor, and I hope never to take his class again. He is a skilled teacher with many good ideas, and I learned a lot from his class. There was too much work for me. Many students will get a lot out of his class, but if you want an easy introduction to your freshman year, do not take Glenn Moomau.
Prof. Moomau assigns A LOT of work outside of class, but almost all of it will help prepare you for the papers you have to write/for class. He also gives really good feedback on papers. His class can be a lot of work but I really did learn a lot and became a better writer because of him and his class!
He is a great professor, but he takes attendance and participation very seriously, it affected my grade at the end of the semester. You will have 3 papers during the semester and they all kind of connect to each other so make sure you like your topic. He is very nice but intimidating.
The coursework isn't difficult per se, but there is a lot of it for being a WRT-100 class. The work though never feels like busy work after the very beginning, with a few exceptions. Also every semester afterward will not feel nearly as intense.
Professor Moomau was one of my favorite professors last semester. Pretty intimidating and assigns a lot of readings, especially considering that it is a freshman writing class, but it all helps you a lot and makes writing the final paper easier. Easy grader and always accessible outside of class, he's a great guy.
Professor Moomau is a great teacher and really does care about his students a lot. He makes it a priority for his students to know that he is available almost at any time for them and makes a great effort to see them succeed. When it comes to technology usage he is a bit unorthodox but after adjusting it becomes no issue.Make sure to have your book
