The class itself has a lot material. During class due to the huge amount of material thrown at you, it is a bit hard to keep up. So its highly recommended to go over the material at home. The exams are pretty straight forward and based mostly on the power points. Expect 5 exams, one 10 pg term paper and a final.
Really Enjoyed this course. He is a great professor. Take it with him and no one else.
He is a very nice guy, however the material of the class is dense + ALOT. You have to stay on top of it or you will fall behind very easily. Class consists of five exams a cumulative final(optional) and a ten page paper. Tests are not bad, but you have to study efficiently. Class can get overwhelming with the amount of exams.
The material in this class is quiet difficult and very science base. BUT the professor does an amazing job on teaching the material in a very understandable and organized way! He gives you so many opportunities to do very well in his class like the abundant amount of extra credit points. I DEFINITELY recommend this professor!
Best professor for an intro to neuroscience class! Make sure to attend the lectures because every answer to a test question is in those lecture slides. There are a lot of opportunities for extra credit such as extra credit clicker quizzes during every lecture. I definitely recommend him!!! If you study & keep on top of the readings you'll get an A!
Whoa! This professor is amazing! As long as you enter the class, you can feel his enthusiasm toward neuroscience and psychology. He always prepares the lecture well and presents his acknowledge in a professional way. The course materials are interesting, and if you really pay attention to what he says and take notes, you will do well on exams!
Great professor, but lectures are very dense so you have to pay attention at all times because it's very easy to fall behind in the material. He gives 20 quizzes, which are counted as extra credit. Attend the lectures and take notes because the tests are based 100% on the lectures
Amazing class, awesome professor - highly, highly recommend his classes.
Really enthusiastic & thorough, Prof. Schafe absolutely enjoys what he does and that energy is often contagious. His tests reflect the material covered on his powerpoints, but memorization won't get you too far, and neither will cramming. Come to class. Not an easy A but one of the most satisfying and rewarding As of my undergrad career.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! He is very enthusiastic and explains things in an understanding way. Come to class and study the lectures and you will do great. Very interesting lectures and no homework! Also quizzes add up to many extra credit points.
The best professor! Funny, interactive, and makes learning fun! So many chances to get an A!
He's such an amazing professor. Truly cares about students and comes to class everyday excited to teach. He also gives tons of extra credit in the form on iclicker questions. All exam material is based on lectures/videos. You seriously cannot go wrong with him. He's an easy A and someone I would definitely take again!
Going into this class, I thought it would be a bit easier. The exams require you to memorize everything in order to get a good grade. Lectures are long, but sometimes interesting and there are IClicker points for extra credit. He is a good professor overall.
Lots of extra credit opportunities and the final isnt cumulative! Tests aren't hard if you study one or two nights before. You can tell that he loves the material he's teaching. Attendance isn't mandatory but it'll help your grade to listen to the lecture. Don't bother getting the textbook b/c all the test questions can be answered with his slides.
Amazing Professor, I must say this class has kept me interested and wanting to further expand my knowledge in this field. He only has 3 exams and one writing assignment which only has to be 500 words. The exams are EXTREMELY straightforward as long as you read the slides he posts. A lot of extra credit opportunities.
I would suggest Professor Schafe for Psych 100 to everybody. He gives extra credit almost every lecture that applies to test grades. His tests are extremely straight forward and it reflects everything in the Powerpoints. He's also incredibly nice.
3 exams that are very straightforward. He bases the exam questions off the problem sets he assigns before each exam and his slides, which he posts on BB, so everything you need to get an A is given to you. He even offers a lot of extra credit, so you really can't go wrong with this professor.
i love prof. schafe!!!! he's so nice and his lectures are amazing!! he is very clear, and concise, even for someone who has not taken psychology before! very great, just come to class and read the lecture, like really read them because the test is based all on them.
i honestly wont recommend this class. it's an easy throw-away class, but his lectures are boring, and he doesn't know how to keep students awake.
easy teacher. 3 exams all based on his lectures. easy A and he offers alot of extra credit points.
He's not a terrible professor. His lectures are just super boring. He just reads off of the power point slides so you have to teach yourself everything. You need to go to class if you want extra credit because he uses the iClickers. If his lectures were interesting, then he would be a much better professor and students would actually pay attention.
Easy A/B. Offers extra credit which is a one question quiz on an iclicker. Attendance not mandatory, non-cumulative exams. You'll pass easy by just studying the slides, exams are 60 multiple choice questions. One written assignment and have to participate in 6 credit hours of psychological studies (which is easy).
Professor Schafe is really knowledgable and enjoys teaching Psychology. His lectures are a bit tedious but as long as you study, you're good. He also offers a lot of extra credit and gives problem sets before an exam so you are fully prepared for it. There is a written assignment but it's really easy. Show up for the iclicker quizzes!
provides clear explanations for each topic using examples that are easy to understand. super interesting class and very fair grading system. 3 exams (not cumulative), 1 essay, easy research requirement, and online sample test questions that are extremely helpful when studying for exams. offers a lot of extra points. seriously amazing professor!!!!!
Love him! Amazing professor. Inspired me to study neuroscience. A fairly easy class with three non-cumulative exams, and an easy writing assignment. Gives a lot of extra-credit (iclicker questions.) If you bother to come to lectures and pay attention, he's very engaging, interesting, and fun! Would take him again!
his a boring prof. makes me get bored in class n not as excited to study psych even though its intro class. exams r demanding and very tricky. don't want to take this class again. the best thing is that he gives lots of extra credit through clickers and easy writing assignment.
Many people show up for the iclicker then leave class. I don't recommend this despite professor reading off his slides. His class makes me fall asleep, but his class is easy in general. 3 exams(non-cumulative), written assignment(500words),6 credit rsch, problem sets. Everything is from his slides.
Great professor! Prof. Schafe gives you all the resources needed to get an A: study the lecture slides on BB, complete the problem sets, and he gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities. Also, there is an easy 6 hour research requirement. Exams are straightforward; all the content are from the slides. Textbook is not necessary. Take advantage!
Amazing professor. His lectures can get pretty boring sometimes, so just chug some coffee beforehand and you'll be A-OK. 18 points of extra credit for tests is offered, and the problem sets he assigns for homework (3 total) contain questions that will most likely be on the next exam. Final is not cumulative. He's also pretty funny. Take him!
Schafe is a professor you try to wholeheartedly recommend, but by the by ppl just take advantage. He's really in love with psych and it's clear by his intonation. We've joked that his lectures are like orations but in the end listening gets you the grade. 3 test (noncumulative), 20 EC clickers, 6hr research req & a 500 word essay. Can't go wrong.
I'd definitely recommend Prof. Schafe's Psych 100 class. He's a good instructor, you can tell he's really passionate about his field. He uses pp slides, which he also posts on BlackBoard. Read them thoroughly and you can get an easy A. Also, the 20 Iclicker extra credit points really help in the end.
Prof Schafe is an extremely knowledgable person. His exams are straightforward and are based off his powerpoints. Do not buy the textbook unless you really want to go in depth. You have to put in a little bit of effort in order to get an A. This class is really so easy. Just try. Oh and the iclicker quizzes are added into your grade!
Professor Schafe is a funny, easy professor. He gives IClicker quizzes every class so it's so easy to boost your grade. His tests are easy as long as you study his lecture slides. The textbook is pointless, all you need are the slides. His grading policy is clear. Would take again.
Tests are never cumulative so we don't have to go back and review all the previous chapters. His tests are straightforward and you just have to study the lecture powerpoints. At the beginning of every class, he gives one iclicker quiz question and you get one extra credit point for every quiz question you get it right.
All the exams are based on the lectures. He gives out hints and explains thoroughly every slide. After the lectures I recommend to review it, its a lot of information.
Best professor. Clear grading criteria and posts all the lectures online. The lectures were very interesting and he really knows what he's talking about. If you check Blackboard and study off the slides for the exams you will easily get an A. He also gives Extra Credit and problem sets that are on the actual exam. Highly recommend him.
Glenn is awesome. Please take him if you get the chance. There are 3 exams, 3 problem sets, a short and sweet written assignment, and iClicker quizzes for extra credit. If you follow along during class and thoroughly read the lecture slides, you'll be ok. Attendance is definitely not mandatory, and, also, no matter what Glenn says, don't buy the tb
absolutely amazing lectures, knows his stuff well, well detailed slides with useful information, passionate about the subject, has a calm voice, and his clicker scores directly add onto test grades. my friends and i even talk about wishing that he lives a long happy life bc of how good he is.
he's pretty boring, but his lectures are informative and the slides are on blackboard. attendance isn't mandatory but i would recommend going to class because his interpretation of the information is helpful. he doesn't give a lot of work--3 problem sets, iclicker questions, and one written assignment. test questions are very specific.
Professor Schafe is the man ! His lectures are amazing, although they can be a bit boring at times, they help a ton and are very through. His tests can be challenging but if you do all of the work and study off of the slides, you should do well. I 100% recommend his class to everyone because hes one of the best professors in Hunter.
Professor Schafe is amazing. His tests can be a little tricky but if you study his slides thoroughly, you should get a great grade in the class. His lectures are amazing and helpful. Attendance isn't needed, but you will want to go because he gives 20 extra credit iClicker quizzes everyday. He is a top notch professor and I would recommend him 100%
Great professor for a psych intro class. study his slides, do the problem sets, and you'll pass his tests
Easy A class. Show up, read over the lectures a couple of times and do the iClicker quizzes and you are guaranteed an A. I liked his teaching style. You can tell he loves psychology and what he is doing. He is also very accommodating if a student needs extra help. Tests are straight forward. Literally just show up and pay attention and you're good
Read slides and make sure to understand the concepts. Tests can be a little tricky at times, but the professor is awesome and passionate about what he is doing.
Pretty straightforward tests. Everything you need to know is on the slides, so go to every class and make sure to take good notes, especially if you don't have a friend to help you or cover for you when you're absent. He draws students to each class with 20 extra credit quizzes, each one giving a single extra credit exam point. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK.
Do not buy the textbook! All you need is the slides which he posts online. You have to come to class if you want the blanks from the slides to be filled in tho. 20 iclickers throughout the whole semester20 extra points on the tests. 3 tests; the 3rd (final) one is non-cumulative. 3 problem sets online, a 500 word essay, 6 hours of research. Easy A
Great lecturer! Lecs are available on blackboard but he blanks out key words as a way to get students to come to lecture. I only used the textbook to fill out those blanks, you can study with just the lecs. Only one easy 500 word written assignment. There's also a mandatory 6 credit studies participation, just get it out of the way at the start!
Currently in his intro to psych class and for a ridiculously large class he is just an amazing professor. I almost never left class not knowing the material he went over. Except for when he covered biological psychology so pay extra attention to that section if biology is not your strong suit. Also do not get textbook bc waste of $ every lec. on BB
Great caring professor. People may say he's boring but it is only because he has to cover so much material each class which he gives to you through powerpoint slides online on blackboard. All exams are based off the slides. He clearly represents all info on the slides and gives multiple sources to understand info. He also gives extra credit quizzes
Amazing professor. He truly cares and teaches with passion. The slides from his lectures are very important for studying off of and if you show up, you'll do well! I recommend him!
Absolutely Great! Interesting lectures, genuine delivery, and the occasional Freudian slip.
HES SO GOOD. HES GREAT. TAKE HIM FOR PSYCH100!!!
Amazing lectures!!!! Very informative and so interesting. He knows his material and you will learn a lot. Don't really need the textbook as long as you take good notes the exams will be a breeze. Super fun class and he's a wonderful professor!
Go to class and get the blanks for the slides or just have your friend send you a picture. DONT buy the textbook. Tests are pure lecture you don't need anything else
All his tests are based purely on his powerpoints and lecture material. He has three exams total and no final! He gives 20 iclicker quizzes to add up to 20 extra credit points to add in your exams average. Class is a little boring, but not that difficult. He puts his slides up with important info blanked out to make you come to class.
You can tell he loves psych his lectures are always well composed 3 exams NO final but make sure you know your stuff because there are specific questions Extra credit opportunity before each exam. Don't buy the textbook !!! Going to class is worth it he made me want to declare psych major (:
Professor Schafe is such a good lecturer even with boring topics. Very knowledgeable and explains concepts well. 3 exams no final, straight off the powerpoint. Textbook is not necessary but I found it helpful. Responds to email very quickly and gives extra credit clicker questions !!! Must Take for psych100
Dr. Schafe is such an amazing lecture and really enjoys what he teaches! I genuinely enjoyed the class. 3 Exams, 1 easy 500 word writing assignment, 3 Problem Sets. Memorize all the slides and you're bound to get 90+ on his exams (easy). Take notes on lecture templates. DON'T buy the textbook. DO the 20 iClicker quizzes for extra credit points.
If biology is not your best subject, beware and study extra hard for the first test !!! 3 exams (non-cumulative), 500-word writing assignment, 3 Problem Sets and a 6 credit research assignment(Really Easy. ) The IClicker extra credit quizzes really help. This is lecture-heavy. Some interesting. Some boring. Don't buy the textbook. Take good notes
He gives you 3 exams all non-cumalitive, you don't need to buy the textbook just go over his powerpoint lectures, only homework that was given was a 500-word essay and 3 problem sets that are posted on BB a week before each exam and the problem sets really help with the exam. His lectures are actually really interesting.
He's very passionate about what he teaches and inspired me to explore a psych major. The lecture is heavy but very informative. My only drawback is that he didn't provide reviews for exams, but the tests are super easy as long as you take notes. Don't buy the textbook.
Loved this class. Even though it was a lecture and had over 400 students, his lectures were never boring but very interesting and fun. He is also very funny which I loved. His tests are relatively easy as long as you read over his PowerPoints. He also gives you extra point on tests. Plus he never gave homeworks.
the i clicker quizzes are life savers, you really cant fail the class unless you never show up, i failed the last exam and still ended up with a B
Amazing. I put in minimal effort and still got a B. No need for a textbook you'll never use it. The textbook just has a lot of info you won't need for the test. He gives all the info you need in his slides so be sure to pay attention. He has 3 tests (non cumulative) and 1 500 word assignment which EASY. And iclickers as extra credit.
Very generous with extra credit and not a lot of homework. There were 3 exams total including the final, which was not cumulative. One written assignment and three 20 question problem sets before each test to help you study. And a research requirement that you have until the end of the semester to do. Totally recommend!
He's an amazing teacher with fair grading policies. As many have mentioned, he's very generous with extra credit and there is barely any homework (only 3 problem sets which he gives you a week before the exam to do). His exams are fair and it's really easy to get a good grade if you at least pay attention to his lectures and have the notes.
Great prof. Obviously very passionate about what he teaches which makes it much easier to learn. Provides A LOT of extra credit opportunities. There is one brief (and very easy) essay, a problem set before each exam (pretty difficult) and three exams over the course of the class. The material is pretty difficult but if you study you're set.
I loveddd this class. Amazing lecturer, interesting class,VERY enthusiastic professor, and overall just great. but make sure to come to every lecture, because the slides he gives on BB have 'fill-in-the-blanks' that u can only get in class. or u can just ask someone for them... but he does provide useful explanations in class u wouldnt want to miss
This aint your professor if you wanna know things well, but definitely the right one if you want easy grades. Too simple for me, the stuffs were skipped that youll probably need in the future. It aint just about the grades, its also, mostly about the knowledge you get out of a course.
Attendance isn't mandatory but slides have fill in the blanks needed to study for exams. Gives iclicker quizzes for extra credit. 3 tough 50-65q exams, all noncumulative but if you study the lectures you'll be okay. Only homework is problem sets which have an unlimited amount of tries (questions are usually on tests too). Do not buy the textbook!
He is the best professor I've ever had in Hunter. Although his lectures will sometimes makes me fall asleep, but he is a great professor . His class is so easy, so is his tests. I would take him over and over again.
Gives good lectures, but his lectures make me want to fall asleep. You have to go to class to fill in the blanks on slides or just get it from a friend. Gives iclicker quizzes which can really boost your grade.
The lectures in this class were really good and very interesting. You could tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. You need to fill in blanks for the slides but you can get that from a friend if you don't want to go to class. The iclicker quizzes boost your grade so much and the problem sets help a lot too. This class is an easy A.
Prof. Shafe is an organized and HIGHLY engaging lecturer. He creates great PowerPoint slides, which are super useful, especially for visual learners. His exams are definitely comprehensive (some might say long!) and require studying, but not unfairly hard or tricky. He is a consummate professional with up to date knowledge. One of Hunter's best!
Truly an icon. He's very dynamic and engaging, great lectures. Only graded on like 2-3 things and tests make up most of the grade. Study the lectures because it's a lot of info, you don't need to buy the textbook if you don't want too.
His class is interesting and easy to pass. Just study the lectures in advance because it is a lot of material. Theres only 3 tests the whole semester and problem sets that make up your grade. Buying the textbook is a waste. I really really enjoyed his class, highly recommend!!!
Memorize everything on his slides. That's it. 100+ average.
Prof. Schafe is amazing! His lectures are very engaging and the class is an easy A. You're graded on problem sets which give you unlimited attempts and 3 tests which are really easy to get 100+ on if you memorize all the slides. The textbook isn't really needed at all. He is super nice and friendly and basically hands you the A.
3 exams (75% of your grade) and 6 problem sets (25%). You dont need the textbook since his exams are based on his slides. However, he includes 5 extra credit ques on each exam that are based on the textbook. Offers so many extra credits. Up to 20 extra points towards your exam if you answer clicker ques. Easy A if you just memorize everything.
Grade is based on 3 exams and problem sets on BB. The class is super chill, problem sets can be redone over and over til you get a good grade, and he gives extra credit every class. The subject is pretty interesting, and attendance isn't mandatory but recommended. The slides are posted on BB, but they have missing words, hence why you have to come.
Loved this class!!!! Professor Schafe left blanks on his powerpoints which would require attendance to fill them in. If you go to class you will be able to easily fill in those blanks and it keeps you involved. Every time we had class he would play upbeat pop music which always started the class off fun.
I loved this class so much. If you take it, be prepared to study. You have to know everything for the exam, no open book. But you will learn a lot. Professor Schafes lectures and slides are amazing. He truly cares for students, gives extra credit opportunities. But dont expect an easy A. I will be happy if I get a B but it is still my favorite.
Wonderful Professor. If you create flashcards for his slides and memorize you will get an amazing grade. Attendance isn't mandatory but recommended, considering he gives extra credit during class and explains complex concepts in much simpler terms.
Nice and knowledgeable professor, but would not recommend him for this class unless you are ok with hurting your GPA. I read many good reviews, but Professor Schafe went off topic a lot and this caused our class to fall behind. This led to students having to cram a lot of hard material on their own. It felt more like memorization than learning.
Professor Schafe was one of the best professors I had at Hunter. His lectures always kept me interested and excited about the material. Using flashcards to memorize the slides worked exceptionally well for the exams, which are pretty straightforward compared to other classes. I HIGHLY recommend for PSYCH 224.
It was very clear and easy to understand him and his slides. He went into a lot of depth while explaining concepts which made it a lot easier to understand. His test questions were straightforward. Unlimited attempts on the hw and iclicker extra credit throughout the semester. Some of the hw questions would appear on the tests. Great professor!
the class was straightforward and accomodating, with unlimited attempts for problem sets and iclicker quizzes for extra credit. the exams are also straighforward, but you need to know the information in the slides very, very well. the only criticism i have is that the professor tended to fall behind on lectures, but the slides can be self studied
Took this during the spring semester. Easy to fall behind if you don't catch up with the lectures. Started out quite difficult but got progressively better. Could of done better in terms of studying but the material isn't all that hard to understand if you study ahead of time.
Hes ok, his lectures are super boring and he goes off topic alot he seems like a nice guy but his teaching style isnt the best. tests are also like 75% of ur grade so if u do bad on that ur kinda cooked.
If you're good at memorization this is the class for you super easy if you fail well thats on you. BUT always ask to see your grade dont trust what they post. I got a 78 once and thought something was wrong which it was, I asked to see mine and my grade was a 100/100. If I never asked I would never know so ALWAYS ASK TO SEE YOUR EXAM BOOKLET
Such a passionate professor! He does spend a lot of time on one slide because he's genuinely fascinated, and I feel like it made me more interested. Tests are worth 75% of your grade but questions are word for word from the slides (beware there are many slides to memorize). He gives 20 Iclicker questions which serve as 20 points of extra credit!
This class is not a hard class at all, i would recommend Schafe, you can tell he loves his job by the way he teaches, which can cause the class to be boring but the exams are mostly about the lecture slides and the textbook is extra credit on the exam, just pace yourself, cramming every in last minute won't work, since it has a lot of material
amazing professor! goes through and connects/explains each detail from slides and really engages you even though its a huge lecture hall. he is SO caring and helped me connect with professors for research, saying "i will make sure you get something". tests are super straightforward as long as you study everything from the lecture slides. good luck!
He is amazing, even though he talks a lot, he is very passionate about what he does and the topics he talks about. Study for the tests and you'll be fine!!! Also take the iclickers serious (its extra credit)
Be prepared for the insane weight of the exams. Do bad on one and you're quite cooked. Talks a lot and is a bit slow but other than that, he's very passionate.
Great professor overall, but his exams are lowkey so hard and grade-heavy. If you bomb two exams, ur Lowkey done for. This is the type of class you need to be going home and studying the material every day so you don't cram last minute.
Not much homework. His exams are exactly like the homework! Go over the problems and you will be great. He talks a lot during lectures, but he is passionate. Only problem is class is not very engaging since attendance is optional. Overall, he is good at explaining and the lectures help prepare for the exam. He specify whats on the exam, go to class
Had to study at home to prepare for exams, cuz his lectures were not helpful as he was just reading from the powerpoint. Exams were hard, average of the class was below the passing grade. Did bad on one exam and was done for the whole semester. However, the class itself is interesting for people fascinating about psychology.
Write the things he discusses that aren't on the slides and you'll be fine. The textbook is used for extra credit questions. He makes the material interesting. His office hours are very flexible.
A very straightforward class. Exam heavy, there's barely anything else he assigns besides a mini quiz. You have unlimited attempts on these mini quizzes, and the questions on show up on the exam. Attend lectures, take notes, and you'll be fine. He does over talk and go into unnecessary topics sometimes, but he's just passionate.
Teaches by reading off the powerpoint and elaborating more about it in person. The exam are usually more than 40 questions and have the SAME exact questions from the "problem set assignments" he provided 2 weeks before the exam. Attendance is not mandatory.. some may fall asleep during his lecture but he's just really passionate.
I could not focus in the lectures especially since attendance wasn't mandatory, but I don't think it mattered. I just printed out all the notes, studied that and still managed to get above 80s on my exam. Definitely was a plus for me since I didn't want to stay for the lectures.
At the end of the semester he rounded grades and gave enough extra credit to bring me from a B to A-. Didn't really attend lectures but the slides were great. Exams were pretty light too.
