Mr. Scott was great, its entirely possible to get an A. Sometimes assigns too much HW, but gives you a week and extensions if needed. Really loves math and is always available for extra help. Tests make up a large portion of your grade, but there is tons of partial credit.
I failed Algebra 2 in high school, attempted but never finished the Algebra 2 online course after the high school class, and then I took Math120 with Mr. Scott. All I can say is that he must be a miracle worker because Algebra 2 went from my literal worst enemy to one of my best subjects, because of his class. He cares so much for all students!!
Glenn has a passion for teaching. Somewhat of a tough grader, but is always fair. It is math, you either did right, or did wrong. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS. Even if you don't understand something from lecture (which you won't, because he's a GREAT teacher.), he will make sure he's accessible outside of class via office hour or email.
Calculus can't be fooled - it is one of those subjects you can't "finesse". That being said professor Scott sets you up for success in his tests through practice in homework. There are few that complain about him, but it does end up correlating with students who put off homework and really do not care to understand entire sections. Very helpful.
Prof Scott is a great instructor with a laid back attitude. The class was review for me since I took calc in high school, but Scott went over the concepts very well. He does assign a lot of homework but gives you lots of time, and it helps prepare you for the exams. We had three exams and a final, which he offers a lot of partial credit on.
Glenn has got to be the best teacher Ive ever had in my entire educational career. Hes well respected by his students and shows that he genuinely cares about his students and their performance by reviewing the test afterwards and adjusting scores to ensure fairness. Total math geek, but probably the best dressed guy youll ever meet
Dont even think twice. If you have the option, pick Glenn.
Glenn is a really good teacher, he clearly cares for his students taking extra time to make sure anyone has questions. he is never late and never missed a day and expects the same from you. If you don't show up to class ready to learn and you don't get help outside of class your definitely going to fail.
He is probably the best teachers at DVC. I used to be so excited to attend his Math class and trust me or not Mathematics is my favorite subject now only because of Professor Glen. He clears the concepts and makes sure we understand it. Very supportive and helpful. Highly recommended!!! If you really want to learn math then take his class.
An amazing professor! A little quarky but awesome personality. He really really really cares about his students and makes the material super easy to understand. He takes the time to answer any questions during lecture, collects hw once a week and goes in depth on answering hw questions too. Take him, you wont regret it.
This is my second class with Prof. Scott, and despite SRC being further away for me, I might take him for Calc III too! He's a VERY strict grader, with no extra credit, but he will make EVERY attempt to help you succeed in his class. If you are a good student (show up on time, do all hwk, ask questions inside/outside of class), you'll be fine.
Professor Scott is really cool! He makes it very clear what is to be expected on the exams. Show up to class, ask questions, and do the weekly homework. His tests aren't tricky or surprising, he tells you what to expect. Great guy!
Such a great teacher. He teaches clearly and is always available outside of class for help. His tests are always reflective of the homework and he emphasizes that to his students.
Calculus isnt easy, but Prof. Scott makes it as easy as its going to get. He doesnt a great job explaining difficult math concepts. Hes always available if you need addition help and hes there to help youd succeed. He grades very fairly. Exams are straightforward, no tricky questions. If you can take Prof Scott for your math classes, do it.
I took his class over the summer so I can advance to pre-cal at Dougherty valley high school. he's a very respected teacher and be ready to check your HW all the time. His test is very common sense and if you don't understand anything he's very welcome to help you. He wants all of his students to pass and I respect him a lot #Please take his class.
Prof. Scott is one of the best at DVC. He cares about his students and works to ensure that his students understand the material. Whenever I did not understand a concept he would always be happy to meet me in office hours to explain it again. If you do the homework, and study for the exams you will do well in his class.
Professor Scott is a really good professor, he really puts in the effort for you to understand everything. However, I did think it was really hard to get an A in his class. The homework is graded based on a few random problems each time for correctness which is kind of tedious, and if you do bad it can really effect you. I tried hard and got a B.
Professor Glenn Scott was great! He was very respectful and super helpful. He is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Pre-Calc. is not an easy subject, but Mr. Scott was there to help me along the way! He is a great teacher and I definitely recommend him!
Awesome teacher who'll remember your name after you finish the class! : ) Homework is graded for correctness, where he randomly picks 5 questions per assignment to grade, so don't BS questions even if you don't need to practice them. Tests are about the same as homework in difficulty. Insanely compassionate and friendly professor. You'll love him!
Best professor I have ever had. His lectures are so easily convertible into notes, tests reflect the notes and the homework very well, intelligent, and more than accessible outside of class. He doesn't mark test answers completely incorrect if you get the answer wrong, he sees whether or not you've understood the material. Took him for calc 2 + 3.
Best math professor. I got a D in calc in HS but got 90% plus on three exams. He's great. He goes above and beyond for students. Would recommend taking his online class, we had 4 exams, 3 of them take home 24 hr exams. OPEN NOTE. pretty HW heavy but I think it was a summer session. Take Scott. You'll succeed.
I start Prof. Scott's class hating math, and ended not only understanding but enjoying it. His lectures were very good, and if you struggled with a concept, you could go to his office hours, which were almost every day of the week and for multiple hours. Of all the professors I have taken classes from Prof. Scott is the best.
Great Professor for my stats class. Semester consisted of meeting 2 times a week and working on the lesson in 5 person groups. Much of the work and learning were done in the groups but the professor would frequently check on all the groups to make sure the understood the concepts. At the beginning of class he would also go over the lesson plan.
Professor Scott is the first math teacher ive ever felt comfortable asking questions to. Calculus is difficult and he doesnt expect everyone to know everything especially during times like now. He records lectures in case you miss them and exams are straight forward and some are open note! Take him if you want calc to be as easy as possible!!
Professor Scott is such a good teacher. He goes through difficult concepts with really good explanations/examples and is very patient when people have questions. His homework does take time but it prepares you well for the exams (which are 24 hr take home tests).
Amazing professor, I went into his class scared of calculus but fell in love with it. The exams are just like the homework and are open for 24 hours. He grades tests out of 760 points so you have a lot of room to make mistakes and still get an A. He is one of the best professors I have taken. Highly recommend starting the homework early.
Mr. Scott is a really great professor who actually wants you to succeed. He's easily available outside of class through his office hours. There are weekly homework assignments, but it's nothing too difficult to manage. Participating in class can only boost your grade. Mr. Scott is a very encouraging individual who made math easier to understand.
I had Prof Scott for 292 and 192, and he is a great professor all around. Teaches straight from the textbook, very clear examples. He shows a love for pure math like no other teacher I've met, you can tell he loves what he does. He can be strict about notation and grading, but tests are just like the homework no tricks. Highly recommend him.
Had Prof Scott and he was a great teacher. Tests/quizzes were take home and we were given 24 hours to complete them. Goes by the book and the problems are straight forward. Sometimes goes off tangent, but its usually something interesting related to math or physics. You have to work hard but, it becomes easy if you do, unlike w/ other teachers.
Hard class
I'm surprised by the amount of bad reviews that have popped up over the past few months. Mr. Scott is a great teacher and in my experience has always been helpful to me. There's no surprises ever on his take-home tests so as long as you do the HW and attend class to ask questions. He can add a lot of HW questions at times but not too bad otherwise.
Mr. Scott made Calc 2 feel really enjoyable this semester. He is really kind, gives effective lectures, and grades fairly on tests. You can just tell that he really loves what he does and cares about his students' success. If you actually study before tests and do the HW you can easily get an A and learn a ton so you are well prepared for Calc 3.
I am international students, and I got A grade. I recommend his class to international students "who are good at math"!! He explain well, and you do not need to speak up in classes,. Exams do not have time limit, and he allows us to use software apps (not cheating app! he explained before exams) and dictionary, and textbooks. but hard exams
Mr. Scott is a great professor. He is very easy to get along with & is also very good at explaining concepts. 4 tests (including the final) & around 13-14 HW assignments. There are a few things I will warn you about before taking the course: do all the homework assignments, attend class (participate) & office hours, & study or you will not pass.
Professor Scott is friendly. His jokes are silly but fun. He is passionate about math and very good at covering the material and doing examples so you understand. It is worth taking notes, following examples, and asking questions. Occasionally, he will go on a tangent (usually math history). Like any Calc class, there is a lot of HW so do it ASAP.
I don't know about all the terrible ratings and how people dealt with Professor Scott, but he is one of the sweetest teachers ever. If he grades your test, he will not hesitate to go over it with you step by step. But you have to study hard to do your best though.
Calc is hard regardless of the teacher you have, but mr scott gives you a bunch of support. You definitely have to work for your grade, and he is always there to help you. A good amount of hmk, but helps prepare you for his tests. He also explains concepts very well!
Mr. Scott is an amazing calc 3 teacher because he is so smart yet is also down to earth so you don't feel intimidated. Also genuinely cares about his students. If you just do your homework, stay engaged in lectures, and take good notes you have a great chance at getting an A. He lets you take a cheat sheet with you for tests which is awesome.
Hw (20-50 probs.,15) = 40 pts, exams (12ish probs., 3) = 740 pts, participation = 460 pts, & final exam = 1390 pts. Let that sink in. Be sure to stay on top of the homework, I'd rec. starting it the day it is due so you know what problems you need help on. Take Mr.Scott's class if you are willing to put in the effort, you learn a lot.
Professor Scott is very passionate about math, he makes it clear what he expects students to learn. He answers students' questions effectively. He can be pretty technical about how you frame your answers. Pay attention in lectures, ask questions, do HW, and you'll be okay. Exams are typically easier than the HW assigned.
Super Nice Professor! Would definitely take again! He is very passionate about math and wants his students to be as well. Sometimes he would get a little too wrapped up in the math history or theory of it all instead of doing practice problems, but always available for help!
SO MUCH HOMEWORK. He has a set standard on how he want's work shown which can be annoying as every math teacher is different. Going over homework at the start of class usually takes an hour and it can be extremely draining. Lecture wise he does good but tends to go on random facts. Allows note card for every exam out of the 4, besides the 2nd one.
mr scott is actually such a good professor its wild. calc 3 is gonna be hard regardless of the prof you choose but the way he does his tests and the hw problems he assigns makes it so you can get an A in the class as long as u do the hw. he also tells you how to study for his tests - follow that and ur all good
Not the easiest class, and you definitely learn a lot on your own. He is very accessible outside of class, but the hw is always a lot harder than the lecture so it takes a while to complete. Fortunately, he grades leniently on exams, and they are usually easier than the hw. Overall, a lot of self learning but easy grader. I would recommend.
Super passionate and wants you to succeed. Go to his office hours - they help a lot. Grade is determined by 3 exams and the final. If you understand every single problem from the HW, you'll be fine for exams. Math is hard in general, but at least he cares about his students and is willing to help. He puts in a lot of time and effort in his classes!
If you want to be a math major, take him, he teaches the class what it is like to go be a mathematician. This can lead to him getting sidetracked and rambly, but overall lectures are fine. He has a genuine love for math. Grading criteria clearly outlines. He loves people asking questions and participation is extra credit. Will take again for calc 2
Professor Scott is an amazing teacher. His class consists of homework (worth 35 points each, about 15 total), participation (5%), and exams (3 of them with 1 cumulative final). He grades fairly and gives partial credit. Typically the homework is harder than the tests. Pay attention in class and understand the homework and you should be good!
Calc 2 is known for being one of the hardest math classes in any college you go to, but don't let that scare you away. Scott does a great job teaching each chapter and assigns straightforward questions on the exams. He gives a lot of hw but it's actually a good thing bc the exams are a lot easier. Exam 1 was the hardest Exam 2 was the easiest.
Professor Scott is a great teacher. His lectures are clear and he is always willing to clarify on a topic if you are confused. His course is pretty exam heavy, but he is very lenient in partial credit and allows a half-sheet of notes during the test. He is generally available for help through office hours. If you can take a course with him, do so.
Best professor you could ever have for Calc I, II, and III. I had him for Fall22 for Calc II and Spring23 for Calc III. He has the format and pacing for the class down perfectly. During his lectures he writes down the notes on the whiteboard, so you can copy notes easily. He also has no problem with you taking pictures of the board. Continued above
Take Professor Scott! I had him for both MATH-193 and 292, and he was amazing! 14-15 HW Assignments, 3 Exams, and a Final. As long as you go to class, do your homework, and attend office hours, you will be fine! While yes, his class can be difficult, it's mainly because of the material but not how he teaches it. Definitely would take it again!
Prof. Scott is one of the best. His lectures are well paced, he always helps students when they don't understand, his exams are easier than the homework, and his office hours are convenient & useful. An A is generally attainable w/ a good final score. He is a charismatic, kind, interesting, and respectable person who is passionate about his work.
Mr. Scott has a way of teaching that just wasn't really for me. There were a lot of times where he would lecture and then start rambling about other things, and other times where concepts that weren't covered in class showed up on the homework. He's a funny guy and he grades pretty leniently on exams, but his lectures can feel super drawn out.
He's a pretty good teacher. He definitely goes off on tangents (lol) and class can feel very long, but he's a nice guy and a fair grader. Math is not my best subject so I was surprised I ended with an A. He grades the homework tougher than the tests and is very generous with points on tests, just make sure you understand the concepts at minimum.
He is a good professor, he prepares for his lecture class, answers the question as many as students want. But for me, Cal3 by his class is a lot of theory and proof. He gives students wide information without hinting at what will be in the exam, so it's very hard for students who don't have guidelines on where to practice or note for the exam.
Professor Scott is a caring professor. There are homework assignments every week and those can take up a lot of time. However, he allocates the beginning of each class to homework questions. He is definitely the best math professor I have had since you can tell he wants students to succeed and understand the material. He is also very engaging.
Best Professor yet in my academic career. He has a great teaching style and his homework is somewhat hard but it helps prepare for the test. His tests are easy and straighforward. My little problems is that we don't know what we will encounter in his test or rather what type of questions. Other than that, pretty chill dude. Take him.
He assigns too much homework, I would not recommend him unless you have no choice. His homework is hard and is not what he teaches in class. expect to do 80 homework exercises per week that have multiple things to do within them like a) b) c). In my opinion, he's a great teacher, but assigning so much Homework just ruins the experience.
I took him for Calc 1 during the summer session and boy was it an experience. Best lectures and tons of homework that helps you prepare for the exams. Exams are easier than the homework, if you actually particpate, do the homework and study for the test. He is extremely generous with points and will assure you that everything will be fine. Take him
Great teacher. Took him for calc 1, 2, and 3. He's patient, kind, and loves to teach. Lots of HW, but it's manageable since exam is similar to the HW. To study for exam, just redo HW, and you'll be fine. Grades fairly and gives tons of partial credit. I'll be transferring to Berkeley this fall, all thanks to Mr. Scott's help. Go bears!
Professor Scott is the best college professor I've had so far. He is readily available many hours outside of class. His homework load is more than usual, but not unreasonable. If you need extensions, he is very generous. An experience in Prof. Scott's class is very reminiscent of the experience you will have after you transfer.
Was fortunate enough to be able to take Mr Scott for calc 1, 2 and 3. He is very passionate about the material he teaches and makes himself very accessible outside class for help. Homework assignments can be slightly lengthy and difficult, but tests are always easier than the homework. I highly recommend taking him if you are able to.
Professor Scott made learning Calculus 2 very fun and easy to understand. His lectures helps you a lot and he is very passionate at teaching. Although homework are sometimes long and difficult, it really helps prepare you for the exams. He allows notecard for every exam and is also very generous at grading. Definitely take him
He is the best math professor around. He has homework, which is sometimes hard, if not easy. Exams are more straightforward than homework. His lectures are very useful to study material because he will give you some of the most subtle hints that, if you pick up, will give you insights about how his exams will be. Good luck.
lectures r so hard to get,so much time on math history than actual concept spent more time learning y each symbol is named what it is rather than y we are using it,how to use it.If u are the type of student who needs it to be explained in steps he not for u.Expect to learn a lot on ur own.then do hours of homework on the things u've learned alone
The 5.3/5 says it all. Professor Scott is an amazing professor who will outline anything and everything you need to know. His tests are super easy and similar to the homework. If you can take him, do not take anyone else or you will regret hearing from all your friends how easy their calc class was.
bro how does this guy have a 5.3 out of 5 rating? how is that even possible? bro knows so much about math that he destroyed the math behind the rating system, truly a goat fr
Professor Scott always fights with you until the end and never gives up on his students. If you are looking for a good Math Professor in San Ramon DVC, then Professor Scott is a good professor for you! He once taught me "never treat anyone like a truck" or to always be confident in yourself. Great words to live by!
This class was tough because I took the 6-week version over the summer, but Mr.Scott is the goat. He is just an amazing teacher and really sets you up for success. Take this guy.
Very easy Professor, if you do all the homework you'll get an easy A.
Honestly, best Math professor I've had at DVC. He does talk a lot but a majority of the things he says are super helpful and make you understand every concept really well. If you pay attention to the lectures and do the hw it's super easy to do good on the tests and final. He lets you bring a cheat sheet for the tests as well.
Glenn is the definition of a quality professor. I had him for calc 2 and will be taking him for diff eq. While he does ramble off topic sometimes, he gives great lectures and cares about his students. He gives lots of hw but it helps since his tests are similar to hw problems. Notecards on tests too. His office hours are great too. He's the goat.
Great at answering questions and explaining concepts clearly. He takes his time with each topic, ensuring students grasp the material without feeling rushed. He encourages questions and provides thorough explanations. Accessible outside of class and genuinely cares about student understanding. An excellent teacher for Calc 1 and 2!
The best math professor I have ever had, period. Maybe the best professor I have ever had in college. If you want to learn math, I can not recommend him enough, thank you for everything Professor Scott :)
I took differential equations with him. He's easy to get ahold of outside class, and allows note card/formula sheet on exams. On HW and exams, he grades you on your effort, so even if you get something wrong, he'll grade on an attempt made. Very flexible and patient, wants to ensure that you're actually learning something.
He is good at teaching but often rambles off topic and that makes me lose focus. He gives A LOT of homework and is really picky about correctness. He gets really mad when people also don't do the homework even though it's not due for another week. He is easy to access outside of class and wants his students to pass. Unfortunately, I had to drop.
Homework is excessive, will literally take 4 hours just to do one day worth of homework, and was upset when no one did it within 1 day. Made the test harder when no one asked questions. Doesn't give study guides, gets off topic too easily, and you'll never get the notes if you miss class. He expected half the people to fail one of the tests.
Very hard to follow during lectures and won't answer questions. Homework is 100x difficult than lectures, and a lot of it is assigned. Gets upset when homework isn't completed 1 week before due date.
Took Mr.Scott over the summer and really enjoyed his class! He's really good at delivering lectures and making them interesting, so material was easy to understand. He gives a bunch of points for homework too, so you can build a buffer for exams pretty easily. Exams a lot easier than the hw btw so do your hw! Overall really nice guy. 10/10
Overall, Mr. Scott just wants you to understand the material. He grades tests very leniently, making sure that the student understood the bigger concept above all else. He also weights homework heavily, so do it. Homework and lectures are more than enough to understand core ideas. Lectures are amazing btw, he's really passionate about teaching
Scott is a kind professor. His exams were straightforward and no curve balls. Personally, I struggled with his lectures as it was wasn't too comprehensive in actually understanding the concept. Rather giving the definition, theorems, and proofs, then some examples. I had to seek other resources to get a better understanding of the topic.
Professor Scott is my favorite math teacher here at DVC. His lectures are very enriching (though they are very theorem-heavy, with few examples or applications). Exams are fairly straightforward, and he is also very generous with partial credit. Homework can be quite lengthy at times, but it's always due at the end of next week. Would recommend!
Scott's lectures aren't very helpful since he is talking about the history of how math came to be most of the time, but he explains a topic WAY better during his office hours. PLEASE GO IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED. He assigns LOTS of hw problems, but they're far harder than the tests. 3 tests and 1 final make up the bulk of ur grade - HW is about 13%.
One of the best math teachers I have had! In my opinion, he looks for knowledge and effort in tests (bulk of grade) rather than perfectionism. Do the homework earlier than it is due, so you can ask questions. Minimal homework compared to other calc/math classes I've taken. Calc II is a hard class in general, but he makes it so fun!
Calculus is a difficult subject, but he is an excellent lecturer—kind and approachable. He always makes himself available outside of class for questions. While there is a lot of homework, the tests are straightforward with no tricky questions. I would absolutely take his class again.
Bit of an odd guy, but his exams are very easy/fair and he is decent with partial credit. He also goes on insanely long off-topic tangents, and assigns a lot of hw. Grade is very very heavily dependent on the 3 exams and 1 final. For calc 3, only a double sided 4x6 notecard was allowed on all exams and final. Also kinda looks like Matt Damon.
Professor Scott is a great math professor. Exams make up most of the grade, but are pretty similar to the homework. Graphing calculator and notecard are allowed on exams, and he's very lenient when it comes to partial credit. He gives a lot of time to complete the homework, but you're expected to do it before the due date so you can ask questions.
Phenomenal teacher! Scott's lectures teach you everything you need to know for the exams. Ask some questions for participation credit. The exams are simple but very fast - only an hour to take them! The homework is also simple textbook work. He is super friendly.
