Easy to understand. Answers questions. Great web site.
He happened to be one of the easiest teachers for Math 20C for this quarter. I attended lecture a total of maybe 6 or 7 times in the quarter and did well. Just learn everything from the book. His lectures are really unclear and superfluous.
He was one of the clearest teachers I've ever had. If you attend lectures, you'll do fine. I didn't study the book at all, only my books
Very clear lectures and straight forward tests. As long as you do his homework, you will do good on the test. Although his voice is a little annoying from time to time, he's a great professor overall.
sounds like a girl...but its cool...he gave me a good grade
Great professor. He's really clear on his lectures, although at first his voice might suprise you.
Very clear and consistent. Presentation skills not very good, but material is excellent.
Even if you think his lectures aren't helpful, I recommend you going to every one of them. That's what I should have known before taking his class..
He is a awesome teacher. Explains everything very clearly and his midterms/final are straight from his lectures and homework. He is definitely the BEST math teacher I have EVER had.
This guy is awesome! Really helpful in lecture, and very accessible outside of class. Tests are fair, and you will do well if you understand the homework. No tricks or suprises... Though his voice is quite shocking the first time you hear it...
one of the best professors at explaining the course material. he goes into full detail, but still manages to be clear. midterms/exams are straight out of his lectures. his voice is surprising, but you get use to it.
his voice is VERY high pitch which might be annoying to u but also keeps u awake. he's the FIRST prof that writes on the board w/ chalk faster than I write on my paper w/ my pen.. you have to be really fast on taking notes.. he bans a whole board of notes within 2 min. but he's REALLY clear andnice
his voice may throw you off but he is an awesome teacher. he knows his stuff and he will make sure you learn it. he gets so many examples done too which is helpful on tests.

Best math teacher I've had at UCSD - occasionally painstakingly thorough but there is never anything left unexplained! Midterms and final are difficult - STUDY!
One of the best professors on campus. He's really nice if you ever wanted to visit him during his office hours, and his tests are very easy and based on the stuff he covers. Though it's not necessary to attend his lectures, he leaves doesn't leave anything unexplained! (so you don't need to read)
Best math teacher I've had. His lectures are very clear and the only calculus I understand is what I learned from him.
this professor is probably the best math professor at ucsd .. his lectures are fast but he it's clear and easy to understand .. it also helps you understand the material that he assigns on his hw assignments .. his midterms and final is very fair .. he won't throw anything foreign on the exams
most noticable is his voice; very nice and friendly guy--very very approachable; fair tests; grading like most math classes; okay class
Although he has a feminist voice, he is pretty clear and easy to understand. His notes are really organized. His lectures are really useful. His midterms and finals are okay to do; however, if you did all his homework, it should be easy.
awesome professor. extremely organized. his tests are a little hard but the grading is really fair (plus you get a whole 8x11 sheet front and back). gives a lot of homework problems, but they're not that bad.
His voice is hilarious, but you'll get used to it. His lectures are alright, I fell asleep a few times, but just because I was tired. He lets you have a full page cheat sheet, front and back, for the midterms and final, so if you know how to make a good one like I did, you should do pretty well.
he's the best
Very nice guy and explains concepts well (have to give him credit for his props). The tests are hard even with a 2 sided cheat sheet.
ok this guy talks really fast... if u know the materials already, then you're ok... exams are abit tricky. 20c students get ready for this 2nd midterm... i dont think he's gonna go easy on us... so i guess people that are taking this class next quarter should avoid him if possible. overall he isnt that easy. avg first midterm is 65... thats bs.

GOOD TEACHER!!! tests extremely fair TAKE HIM!!! a LOT better than all the other 20C teachers, especially popescue -_-... Wouldn't mind taking him again.j Key to sucess in his class.. follow the hmwk... probs that he assign are IMPORTANT, not that much hmwk. so for tests... Study 1) ur notes... 2) Your hmwk 3) Your book then you'll do
very hard to follow in class, writing is ridiculously hard to read and his notes go all over the place. moves very fast. tests are hard even though you get a sheet of notes. hated his lectures and learned more from reading the book. would not recommend taking him
Tesler was awesome. If he's hard to follow it's because you're not well prepared, not because he moves too fast (if he moved any slower he wouldn't be able to cover everything) His class is well paced and planned, he's very receptive to questions, and he has a jolly disposition and is quite funny somtimes.
He explains the material pretty well, but a lot is covered during his lectures. Just make sure your notes are organized. The tests are reasonable. Just know the topics very well, and study the homework. His TAs are helpful too.
He actually responds to emails. Very helpful person.
If you're in bioinformatics, this class == CSE21 so don't worry. He looks like an older napoleon dynamite, but look him up on pubmed or google--he's a bigshot! Very clear lectures, cool guy.
Very smart guy. Great teacher. He has a Phd from MIT, I believe, and it shows in his teaching style. He teaches nonstop. He fills every inch of the chalkboard within 10min and starts all over again. There are no jokes or tangents, however, his personality comes out in his teaching. He explains things very well, and his tests are medium difficulty.
never knew when to speed up the class and when to slow down (i.e. taught us how to add vectors for the entire lecture), talks fast and girly, tests are fairly easy if you study, TAs were completely useless, overall a decent teacher
not a great prof. to me, lecture isnt really helpful, he rushes through the information and isnt really clear. i always have to refer back to the textbook when doing homework. but he can be funny SOMETIMES! he doesnt have any quizzes only collects homework. homework is due once a week during discussion. midterms were fair. final was difficult!!
A great professor overall! Midterms and finals are fair. If you do your homework, tests wouldn't be a problem at all. Cheat sheet is allowed. Lectures were hard to follow, and taught fast. I mean there's so much materials in 20B, so he gotta teach it fast.
Great professor! Fair and straightforward tests with slightly tricky problems. Overall, decent class. Highly recommended!!
Tesler is a pretty good professor. You may be a little overwhelmed the first couple of days because he flies through his lectures, but he give tons of examples that help you understand. His tests are way easier than you'd expect, so don't go too outta your way to study. Just do the homework and you'll be fine, especially if you've taken calc before
Talks pretty fast and shows a lot of examples. He's a funny guy. I thought his midterms were always a bit tricky though.
fast paced lecture, which i prefer. tests cover most basic materials / no trick question.
pretty good
tests are fair. course material is difficult, so come to class & stay on top of it. he's a really nice guy but not that helpful at office hours. his TA that quarter was awful. try to find good tutoring through tau beta pi or something
Great teacher! He really knows his stuff. The class material is pretty difficult so go to lecture and pay attention and you'll be fine. The hw is perfectly assigned and has enough bioinf examples that are interesting. He has his quirks, but he teaches very well.
Although his midterms, practice exams are easy... HIS FINAL WAS RIDICULOUSLY HARD. WAY TO LEAD EVERYONE ON JUST TO FAIL THEM ALL AT THE END.
He was a well-prepared, clear lecturer and his exams were very fair. He seems to me like the kind of professor who makes the final trickier/harder than midterms though. At least for 10C, his tests were very representative of lecture examples and homework. He's kind of quiet, but also very nice with a sense of humor too.
Midterms were super easy however the final was ridiculously hard. I had 2 solid A?s from midterms but failed the final which resulted in a final grade of C. The midterm was similar to sample exams, but the final had nothing to do with the sample finals. He even put true/ false questions. He should have prepared us for that ridiculously hard final!!
Very nice professor. His lectures are very fast-paced. His two midterms were pretty easy though the second one was a bit harder. His final wasn't too bad as long as you had every single formula on your cheat sheet (which is a blank piece of paper front AND back)
Glenn Tesler is amazing, his voice is funny at first but once you get used it to it really keeps you on track and focused. His homework is much more difficult than the exams but other than that he is a reasonable professor who seems like he really cares about his students.
My favorite math class taken at UCSD yet. Professor Tesler gives challenging homework that is worth about 20% of your grade, and in most cases, you get unlimited tries. In contrast, his tests were far easier than the homework. Final was different than the midterms but representative of the material if you understand the concepts. Take him!
He's a REALLY smart guy, but not the best teacher. His lecture slides are VERY thorough and easy to understand, but in lecture, he essentially just reads those slides (so attendance isn't fully needed). Exams are very fair (just like the stuff he goes over in lecture, and much easier than the homework). Pretty much CSE 21 but a bit harder.
His homework was often weird and had a lot of questions that were very applied and not at all what was addressed in lecture. His midterms were manageable and what was expected of the course. His final was completely unfair and focused nearly entirely on theory and graphing which Tesler placed very little emphasis on. HIs voice is very girly.
He is very smart and knows his stuff, which sometimes makes lecture a little hard to follow because he does things in a fast paced manner. I was confused in some lecturers and had to learn the concepts as I did the homework. Midterms were fair, but the final was really hard (which he did not even hint at). However I would still recommend him.
He is very fast paced and often unclear. I found myself very confused when he lectured, so I had to use the book, internet, or TA to learn the material. Easy midterms, but hard final. Went into the final with an A, but ended with a B :(
Prof Tesler is crystal clear in lectures, his pace is not fast since all 20C instructors have same stuff to teach. His final has graph-matching and multiple-choice questions so make sure you understand the concepts besides standard computation. But his homework is more than enough to prepare you.
He explained the material clearly, but a little too fast paced at times. His tests were difficult but fair. Didn't test you on anything he didn't cover.
Look elsewhere for an engaging speaker -- Tesler is a glorified slide-reading robot. He's also the only person I know capable of stripping the humor out of a XKCD comic. That being said, his slides are impeccably thorough, and he is very clear about what concepts you'll be expected to know. If you understand the homework, you should be fine.
Honestly this class is pretty easy, it's a lot of work, but you shouldn't shy away from it. The work is due every week and was online. Allowed infinite number of tries to get work right so it's not hard to get 100% on homework. The midterms were kinda hard, but manageable. Not curved.
Midterms are not that easy as other says, study homework and read the book, do similar homework problems. Final do have graph problem, but also problem solving like midterm. It is not that hard, but also not easy. Try to do as much practice final you can find online as possible. I think he curved final, but not the midterms, but not so sure..
The professor is definitely a smart and detail-oriented man. He was graduated from Caltech and MIT. Definitely attend his lecture, he explains things so well and the lecture is really helpful. But he got heavy workload and the homework are generally hard.
Tesler is awkward and mean when it comes to office hours and interacting with him personally. Wastes testing time, hard to finish exam in time frame.
The Midterms are about 4 questions each. Each part contain the same score. It is not hard at all but sometimes you would need the stuff you learnt in the past eg. how to find the radius of a sphere. Final is a bit hard. You need to match a 3D graph to an equation. Given graphs are more than equations. 2 sides of note is allowed for exam.
He is super mean during his office hour.
Online homework really helps with the learning process and does not detract from your grade since you have as many tries as possible. His lectures are okay; he sometimes goes too slow and is not concise (i.e. writing too many words and numbers on the board in an unorganized fashion). His voice and high energy keeps me from falling asleep.
VERY RUDE! Professor is not helpful or kind. His tests are hard. he likes a lot of visual math!! the midterms were okay, but the final was really hard! we literally had to imagine 4D and 3D graphs without computer!! the final lowered my grade. I honestly found this class to be hard compared to Math 20A and 20B only because of the professor.
Avoid Him!! Rudest instructor I have ever met!!!
He is very rude to students who ask for help! I walked into office hours to find him practically yelling at a student because he did not understand a problem. Aside from that, his final is incredibly hard and will lower your grade dramatically! Would not recommend
The homework is the most dreadful thing on the planet. Tesler is intelligent but unfortunately lacking in the social department. Will not teach you what you need to know for the homework or tests. REALLY big on graphing, which is the most difficult thing to grasp in multivariable. Personally, I would avoid him at all costs.
Extremely hard exam. Nothing like sample exam. Talk so quickly and never answer question
An excellent professor. I recommend all students take his class. He illustrated the materials that ought to be covered by graphs clearly and conceivably. As for exams, I think as long as you finish doing every single practice problem on the book, it should not be a problem at all. Recommended.
Mr. Tesler is a solid teacher and is super smart. Sometimes is is a little too smart and talks at incredible speeds which can make the lectures a little difficult to follow along. Tesler is love, Tesler is life. 10/10 would take again.
Tesler is an okay professor, usually goes a little too fast at time due to time constraints. He focuses heavily and graphs/visuals.
His lecture is pretty fast-paced. But he posts both the video and slides on podcast, and watching the podcast is really helpful because you can stop whenever you want. You don't even need to go to the lecture with the podcast, which is good for all lazy students like me lol.
His lecture is clear, and not fast. You need to have the ability to imagine 3D graphs. I almost missed the Final exam... He sends email to remind me to take the final.
His lectures are very clear, and he has podcasts after the class. Homework is easy, and if you do the homework seriously, the exams will be easy to you. I like him!
The tests are graded in a very strict way! He lectures fast.
Not that great of a lecturer as he talks so fast and goes over more content that other math 20c professors. He gives hard exams that are very conceptual and test difficult topics.
All he tests are graphs! it was really hard! avoid him if you can
He is a great teacher! He explains everything really well and the workload is manageable. The midterms were easy and based on homework, but the final was a lot harder.
He gives a lot of example problems in his lecture and if you can understand those examples well you should be fine with your homework. His exams based a lot on the homework. Understand the HW problems and do some practice exam problems, it would be an easy A for this class.
Compared to the other math20c professors, Tesler is the best at explaining the concepts. Yes he covers slightly more material, but he gives tons of examples. Lots of hw but you get repeat attempts. Both midterms were very easy if you tried on the hw and the final was pretty fair too (though comparatively harder than the midterms due to graphing).
It is difficult to have a conversation with him, as it is very one-sided. Whenever I attempted to make any inputs he just continued to talk over me. Most of my success came from reading in the book. Midterms were easy if you prepare, but the final was much harder. Also, Beware because he grades on a bell curve.
He is a very boring during lecture. He is sort of fast paced. His midterms were very reasonable, all free response. His final was completely different from the midterms. It was multiple choice and free response. Overall, its a pretty good class.
His slides are super good.
Overall, I had a pretty good experience. He lectures super fast, so definitely pay close attention. Midterms were pretty easy if you did the homework and the final was harder, but still fair.
Prof Tesler mainly uses his slides to teach the course. If you honestly read the slides and do the homework you don't even really need to attend lectures. The exams were fair and were honestly easier than the homework.
homework counts for 40% of the grades. But lecture slides and discussions are useful. Professor Tesler also gives great explanations for alternative examples to help better understand concepts and problems. Exams are relatively easier compared to homework.
Amazing professor. He was extremely organized with amazing slides. Knows what he is talking about, is willing to help during office hours, is super nice and approachable, and sets clear grading criteria. His tests are extremely fair, and homework is significantly harder than tests, but his lectures cover enough and he is very responsive on piazza.
Glen is an amazing lecturer, he is able to explain complex concepts very well and clearly making them easier to understand. We had weekly homework which was not too difficult and the exams were fair as well. He is very responsive and easy to get in contact with. Overall, I would highly recommend taking him.
While attendance was not mandatory, he gives very thorough explanations of each slide he has, and also uses simple examples to motivate more advanced concepts, something that not many professors do. The material in interesting, and lectures are very engaging. Recommended to anyone taking MATH 184!
The professor's lectures are engaging with clear explanations. While attendance is mandatory, the material is interesting. Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a recommended class.
Homework is quite hard (40% of grade), midterm was super fair, final was also really fair. Focus on material on slides and concepts in HW. Bring questions to his office hours and he'll explain everything for you. He really cares about his students and is always willing to answer questions
An amazing professor!
Not a bad professor, but I dislike the fact that he made the final exam heavily focused on the last few concepts, despite telling the class repeatedly that it was comprehensive which I felt was misleading. Homework is nearly half of the grade and is quite hard, as others have said.
No practice exams, he mentioned the final was comprehensive but it focused heavily on last couple weeks of concepts.
Content is a bit confusing but the class is graded very fairly, midterm was easy and final was very doable
Professor Tesler is one of the best professors at UCSD. Take him you wont regret it. His lectures are very helpful and he makes it very easy to learn and understand what is going on.
Tesler's lectures are basically just him reading off the slides, but you don't even need to attend because of how good his slides are. They cover everything in detail, and he's pretty responsive on piazza. Gives a lot of hw but it's doable, midterm was def easier than the final.
Lectures were very organized and had everything you needed to know for homework/exams. He explains the concepts well. The hardest part of this course was actually the weekly homework, since most of it was proofs. Go to discussions for HW help (trust me). The exams were actually very fair and were not proof-based. Definitely recommend for 154.
