pretty good teacher.....really easy to take notes...all questions for test are from the notes...
glenn rocks, just don't try and cheat, the man has eagle eyes.
glenn is one of the dorkiest guys in the world but i loved him! his tests were really hard and its kind of hard to pay attention in class because it gets boring, so i would suggest taking advantage of the study skills mentor group.
Great guy. I was intimidated by the subject at first but Tiede made this class a walk in the park. I learned alot in this class and made astronomy seem interesting. His tests are not that hard as long as you pay attention.
Glenn is hilarious, just not in a laugh out loud kind of way. He's such a dork, and I loved him for it. The tests are all right from the notes, but sometimes it's hard to stay away in the dark planetarium in those comfortable chairs...take a nap before class. I'd recommend taking him

great teacher, enjoy listening to him, makes it interesting...recommend him for astronomy!!!

those chairs are amazing!!! he is a great guy and seems to know u even if he has over 100 people in his class, kinda wierd, but still. his tests are so so, just study. he is very nice and it is easy to get a B or higher.
boring.....planetarium chairs are comfortable, needs to make more star shows...tests are easy....if u get them before hand from some1 who already took the class!!!!!
I'm not that interested in astronomy, but I thought this class was hard. He speaks really fast and you take like 4 pages of notes at least each class. He will not put notes on blackboard. Worksheets were easy-tests were confusing
Very easy to fall asleep in class, good notes, but have to attend to get them. Do the star gaze... Take all of your exams if you can, he drops the lowest one.

Great class, knows what he is talking about.
Prof. Tiede knows what he's talking about. He's an actual astronomer and explains all topics in ways that are easily understandable. His exams are not complicated and little math (except for math concepts) was involved in ASTR 201. He speaks very clearly and doesn't mumble - good for a teacher that lectures a lot. Excellent instructor.
horrible horrible horrible class. nice guy..but astronomy is terrible. he needs a new wardrobe too..wears the same thing every day
Glenn is a great guy. Very fun outside of class. His lectures may be boring, but he is an actual astronomer and knows what he is talking about. Just talk to him about South Park because he loves that show.
Hard to stay awake in those comfy chairs other than that if you look at the notes and do the online homework you should get nothing lower than a B
Very good teacher class is pretty interesting if you like that kind of stuff. He is very good at explaining concepts, I would suggest taking this class, and if you do talk to him after class at least once, he is very nice and helpful
awesome prof. His class can tend to get a little boring but he is an incredibly nice guy. If you go to his office hours he is very helpful and encouraging
BORING!!! really really really boring. i fall asleep everyday. exams are hard but not impossible
If you love stars and planets...go for it, but if you want to have SOME kind of attraction or appeal to the course...CHOOSE ANOTHER PROF!His class was unbearable and so boring!! I could not keep my eyes open no matter how hard I tried and could not stand how dead the classroom was.
Tiede is a really nice guy and extremely helpful in class. He is really funny if you get nerdy references and he likes to chat, about just anything. I would recommend his class some days are more exciting then others but when he is excited about what he teaches you can tell, class is more fun then. Homework makes the course easy ;-)
I really enjoyed professor Tiedes class. He seemed very knowledgable which really helps and he is always willing to help you if you're having any problems. No mandatory homework, just some class activities. Exams are difficult but you just have to study. I really enjoyed his class and actually learned a lot and would recommend it to anyone.
He goes into way to much detail then needed. I went to just all the lectures, and did most of the homework, but when the tests came around, I would literally laugh b/c I had no idea what 1/2 of the questiosn were asking. I thought the class was tough and would stay far away. He was a nice guy and really knew his stuff, he just makes it to confusing
really nice and teaches for those who do have an interest and even those who don't
Glenn is a very knowledgeable professor, and is willing to help at any time. Exams are fairly easy, however, the weight that class activities hold on your final grade is ridiculous. Classes are boring, and it is impossible to stay awake. I wouldn't recommend him, but if it's a last resort, you should be fine.
His notes are very good and he is very clear. Really likes his job and is a professional in his subject. However, exams are somewhat hard, but if you study correctly, you can get a good grade. Homework is not truned in and is for the student.
It is true that he is very monotone and boring. Goes into way too much detail. Exams are pretty hard.
He's a jolly man.
If stuck in the class, remember to keep up with the reading and do the homework weekly. Cramming will not work because the information is over extensive. The stuff may not seem difficult but the exam questions are impossible. Don't expect an easy A in here- it's all physics, no stars.
Avoid him if you can!On one part it was BG's fault for putting me in a 2120 without any introduction or experience in this area. Test were hard. I studied for at least 10 hours on each test and didn't pass. NO its not mainly about stars and planets, its 90% physics and MATH. If you are not good at these areas DONT take him. Classes are also BORING.
Great teacher, very jolly and enjoyable. If you have an interest in astronomy, he is the man to take. If you want an A , go to class & take decent notes. He is a great resource and is very knowledgable and doesn't talk over your head, also very willing to help. Highly recommended!!!
His tests were easy except for test 3. The homework was sometimes super easy and sometimes impossible. It's easy to get a good grade in his class but he's SOOOO boring and very uninteresting. :/
I had to take this class as a science requirement- and I have to say he gave a great amount of resources to make the class passable and was always very very helpful. He was very good at explaining this and making it relatable. His overall personality made the class much more tolerable. Great professor!
He was an awesome teacher who made lessons really interesting even though it was science. His powerpoints were easy to understand and he didn't read off of them. He added information and talked in an interesting tone rather than monotone. Definitely a good professor!
I always had a subtle interest in astronomy, but he sealed it.
Tiede was always trying to be funny & answer questions, however if you don't take notes or possess good study skills I don't recommend that you take his class. More of a teach your self kind of enviorment.
Great professor. Made the class very interesting. Had in class activities that gave you credit for showing up. Great interest in the subject. I went to every class and enjoyed it a lot. Definatley recommend.
Very easy to understand. Gives many in class activities to boost your grade.
Seriously an AWESOME proffesor! So passionate about his subject and LOVES to teach. However, astronomy is not an easy subject BUT he gives alot of opportunity for points, and gives answers to all homework AND exams. It takes work but he is an AWESOME person!!
If you are not a science major, this class was pretty difficult for me. HOWEVER, Dr. Tiede is one of my favorite professors at BGSU because he does whatever it takes to help students. Gives answers to homeworks and exams so he makes it easy to study. Its difficult but he is a great teacher. Very enthusiastic!!
He's a really nice guy, but he's so smart and thinks everyone else is on his level. He says he's a real astronomer and he's really passionate about his class, but it's pretty boring unless you are really interested in that field. You really have to teach yourself everything.
Dr. Tiede is very professional and really loves the subject he teaches. I really didn't care much about astronomy before I took his class, but I needed it for my major and now it's one of my favorite classes. The homework is not mandatory. Go to lectures and take notes and you'll do fine. I haven't even opened my text book once and I have an A.
THE ACTUAL MAN. best class i've ever taken, but when the tests come around, its psycho-stimulant time. not easy, great teacher, cool content, got me into astronomy as a whole. so passionate about the subject too. guy is a genius.
Loved the class, thought he was a great teacher. He always found ways to keep the material interesting by relating it to the big picture. There are weekly homeworks and in class activities, plenty of opportunities for extra credit too. His tests are nice because you only have to answer 5 out of 7 questions. Would highly recommend this professor!
Dr. Tiede is an outstanding professor! The content can be difficult but he is extremely willing to help out and further explain if needed. He holds weekly astronomy lunches in the union and it is clear that he cares about his students. ASTR 3050 is an amazing course even if science is not your strong suit. Highly recommended!
Dr. Tiede was a great professor. He showed a very clear and keen interest in the subject material and always made sure that his lectures were engaging. He is very well organized, but he does not post his notes online. Make sure you attend class and write down anything he writes on the board. If you do this you can pass with a very good grade.
Very good coverage of course material in a clear manner. Related activities were creative and engaging, and aided practical understanding of material and core concepts. Also held a weekly lunch meet just before office hours when I took the course, and likely still does.
Glenn's exams are HARD. I studied like crazy for exams, but it is all about 'concepts' which he does not teach you. Knowing definitions wont do anything. It's ALOT of physics and math, and not fun stuff about stars and planets like you would expect.
He is an incredibly smart man and I really enjoyed his lectures.
Difficult class because Dr. Tiede is incredibly smart and thinks everyone has the knowledge he does. Focuses too much on math and physics instead of stars and actual interesting space concepts. Incredibly friendly guy who is always willing to help students however he can
Dr. Tiede is a very clever, very engaging lecturer who is very passionate about the subject. There're several in class mini pop-quizzes as well as three exams, so turning up to class is very important. As long as you pay attention, take notes, and know how to get help when you need it you'll be sure to pass fine!
Glenn is extremely passionate about this subject which is good and bad. Meaning he's extremely knowledgable on the subject but he tends to get caught up in the passion instead of getting through the material. The tests are difficult as well, make sure you actually do the HW he puts on canvas, those help a lot even though they aren't graded.
No attendance taken. Graded only by exams and in-class activities (3 questions). Doesn't post grades on canvas.
Dr. Tiede is a great professor. He grades mostly from tests and some participation. If you show up to class and pay attention you should get an A.
Glenn's class is large and boring. Attendance isn't taken, but there are random days where he has activities (3 questions) sometimes based on that day's lecture or the previous class'. Tests are difficult but if you do the study guide you'll be fine.
Dr. Tiede is an incredibly passionate instructor who takes an already interesting topic and frames it in a thought provoking way. Truly an exciting professor to have if you are interested in astronomy.
Tiede is an actual astronomer so he knows his material really well. He expects everyone else to know too. His exams are hard, but if you study the study guide and the notes you'll be fine. If you miss a day you'll be really behind.
Glenn is an awesome, sweet little guy who loves stars.
Tiede has worked for NASA so he really knows what he is talking about and he is very knowledgeable. In class quizes are important but he lets you work with others around you. If you follow the study guide and take notes in class most days it is an easy B
Worst class Ive ever taken by far. He does not upload grades in canvas, which is utterly absurd. He goes way too fast when teaching the lecture. He expects you to know every single thing he tells you,as he believes youll be a real life astronomer such as he is. Does not give information about star gazing at all. Worst professor Ive ever had.
He's really nice and I like him a lot as a person but his way of teaching just didn't click to me. It was really disappointing because I feel like I could've done way better if I just learned the way he taught. Also, if he says "You don't have to memorize these equations." You DEFINITELY need to memorize them.
Attendance - once a week by pop quiz. Only grades on these and three exams but if you pay attention and study it was not bad
Extremely enthusiastic about what he teaches, but the layout of the class is difficult. He doesnt post grades to canvas which leaves many students in the dark. Gives practice quizzes but most of the practice material isnt on exams. Only grades by 3 lecture based exams. Despite attending classes, taking notes, and getting extra help, I still failed
Honestly so difficult. Be ready to take notes and have an IQ of 120 because there is no room for falling behind.
He is very knowledgeable but explains things very fast in his lectures. It would be helpful if he broke things down more. You need to pay attention in class and try not missing class often because it's easy to fall behind. He posts all the power points he lectures in class which is REALLY helpful. Online quizzes and homework helps your grade.
Glenn is a wonderful guy and professor. He really wants his students to succeed and he enjoys teaching Astronomy. He loves his job and you can truly tell. The course is difficult and the content is heavy but Dr. Tiede does his best to explain it and always makes himself available if you need him. I definitely recommend getting the book and reading!
Glenn is wonderful, you can tell he is passionate about Astronomy. This class is lecture heavy and challenging, the notes are online however I recommend showing up because he goes into detail. The downside to this class is the only grades are in-class assignments, stargaze and 3 exams.
Professor Tiede was an amazing professor. His lectures left me amazed at points. There is no homework throughout this class however, there are random classroom activities and exams that account for your overall grade. The exams are quite difficult, unless you pay attention throughout lectures and study prior to taking them.
Class wasn't my cup of tea, but the professor was nice and had a fair grading scale. Little bit difficult to keep track of grades since he didn't use canvas.
I thought his remote class was pretty simple and to the point. He had a very specific agenda of when he posted HW/Lectures and it was easy to fit them into your week (his lectures were recorded not live). He also is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and he uses good examples in his lectures.
Attending class is necessary for you to be successful. The course is very lecture-heavy, and most of the knowledge is learned through his lessons. There are also activities every week which count toward your grade. The course is not overly tricky. Just be ready to read a ton and take lots of notes.
Tiede was very knowledgeable and excited about what he was teaching. Although, he neglected to realize that this class is just a requirement and most students failed. Over 3/4 the class failed the midterm and there was no curve. If you miss class, you miss the only assignments he ever gives. Not very covid accommodating. Book is expensive too
He truly does not care about you. He only cares about himself and always brags about how smart he is and he never stops talking about his "famous job" with NASA. Tests are VERY DIFFICULT. 50% of the class failed the first 2 exams. There are no "excused/unexcused absenses". If you miss an activity, you cannot make it up. Lectures are very difficult.
Proffesor Tiede was a super funny guy and cares about his students. I am a B-average student and still got an A in his class. Just pay attention and study for the exams and you will do fine.
He is very passionate about his teaching. He loves to share his knowledge and it makes the class so fun. Exams are difficult but I promise if you pay some attention and do the weekly questions (not required) then you'll pass. He does not take attendance, but he does activity sheets like once a week and it helps boost your grade. Love this class!
The professor is very skilled in conveying information via lecture to the students in interesting and clear ways. Even though the information can be complex and expansive, it is communicated in an entertaining, engaging, and pragmatic manner.
As long as you're fine with lecture heavy courses you will do fine. Glenn Tiede was an amazing professor & provides awesome examples to help you understand things better. Take notes & also more than definitions know concepts. I read ahead in the textbook what we are going to learn in class to understand the material better.
Tiede is an awesome professor. It is hard to not pay attention during his lectures, as he keeps his students engaged.
He has really good lectures that are interesting to listen to, if you're listening. If you dont pay attention its hard to keep up. There aren't like any outside of class assignments. once a week he does weekly questions and that plus your exam scores is your grade in the class. he explains things very visually
This professor is someone that you can tell is very passionate for what he teaches and is a very smart guy. If you go to class, you are guaranteed to learn something interesting from him. The class does go very fast so if you take this class, I highly recommend going to at least most of the lectures. But overall a nice guy and good instructor.
He's so passionate about what he does but the class is so lecture-heavy. He also has a lot of jokes and makes the lectures interesting but there is no homework so the class so your grade relies on in-class work and exams. So pay attention and diligently take notes so you can look back on it and understand.
The textbook is not needed. You don't need to do the readings as long as you pay attention in class. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended. He gives out "activities" that are three questions randomly. You can use people around you, notes, and the internet. It is a very easy class as long as you pay attention and take notes. Great professor.
The lectures in this class are very engaging. Dr. Tiede is extremely knowledgeable, and is able to relate difficult concepts using real-life analogies extremely well. He grades easily, he encourages technology use for academic purposes, and assesses weekly with in-class written activities. He is accessible, approachable, and affable.
This professor is very knowledgeable about space, but he 60% of your grade is 3 exams that are very hard and he tries to average a 70% for the class, and 30% are worksheets that are like pop quizzes in the class and you can only miss 3 before your grade starts dropping, would 100% not recommend if you do not have to take the class.
Dr. Tiede is very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. My problem was that this class is so lecture heavy that it's boring, I often found myself almost falling asleep in class. his 2 exams are 30% of your grade and the final is 30% which I think is ridiculous for an intro class. Overall, avoid this class for a BGP but take him if you have to
Professor Tiede's lectures are the best i've ever had. He posts his notes online, and provides us with weekly practice questions to help us know what we need to study. He is also very good with overall pedagogy, and makes me want to change my major to astrophysics. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND HIS CLASSES!!!
I loved Glenn, I liked his teaching style and his cadence felt very effective. Some of the material was boring while some was fascinating and delivered the content effectively. The textbook isn't necessary, read it only once and got an A. Weekly pop quizzes, so make sure to go to class! I'm very glad I took this course and enjoyed Glenn's teaching.
Easy class with little homework. Lecture is incredibly boring that it is hard to pay attention. There's very few things that are graded so exams are almost the entire grade of the class.
He was one of my favorite professors! I always looked forward to my class with him. He is fun to listen to in lectures and only gives out three easy-question quizzes every so often and two exams and a final. If you study what he tells you to and go over the powerpoints you will get an A. Overall, an amazing class and professor. Highly recommend!
Lecture attendance is a essential to succeeding in this course. If you don't feel like showing up three times a week, skip it. He is incredibly accessible outside of class though - he is very prompt about responding to emails and has lots of office hours. He's very good about going over material again outside of class if you need some more help.
Tiede's class has a lot of 3 point assignments that he gives throughout the semester but they are on random days. Outside of those 3 points he only does exams. Which can be hard to deal with if you're a bad test taker. He also doesn't let you see your grade during the semester. Which can be quite stressful if you worry a lot about grades.
I strongly believe there should be a Pre-requisite for this class as most people do not grasp the concepts taught. In-class assignments only have 3 questions, so if you miss one, you're automatically down to a 66% on it. I don't think that is a proper reflection of our performance and a poor study method he uses. It shouldn't be a BGP.
So this was a pre-req I had to take. Incredibly lecture-heavy, his reviews for the exams are nothing like the exams. If you miss one class you're gonna probably fail. Highly do NOT recommend it. This class sucked and shouldn't be a pre-req.
Just dropped this class... he has very few grades, so doing bad on one exam pretty much screws you. Took as a prereq and was not worth it. Not easy to follow, and confusing and drawn-out lectures. DO NOT take this class if you have a hard time paying 100% attention.
Do not take this course with this professor for a BGP. It's one of the hardest classes I've taken and should not be a prerequisite. The professor grades on only exams and occasional in class worksheets, so you need to do well on exams to pass the class. He doesn't make lectures interesting and is hard to follow.
This class is challenging because the exams are the only thing graded. He will hand out topics you should know for the exam but those don't really help. He will give weekly questions randomly that are graded so you kind of have to attend class.
Tiede's lectures are engaging, but the class can be lecture-heavy. Attend class, use the study tools like unstuck ai, and you'll do well. Exams are worth a lot, so be prepared.
I love Dr. Tiede. However, he does not post grades. He gives great lectures, but there are very few assignments for a grade. You have to do very well on exams.
Dr. Tiede is a very nice professor. However, his grades are based on three exams, and about 10 in-class quizzes that only have 3 questions. In addition to this, he never posts grades on Canvas. You have to do well on exams to do well in the class.
He's nice and funny but your grade is only based on 3 exams and they're not easy exams. The exams are not similar to the lectures or review sheets and he's aware of this but states he won't change them and that people need to learn to study for his exams. There's a weekly sheet with 3 questions to help with the grade but not much
He is a good professor if you love really hard tests. He knows what he's talking about but his exams are so hard. I would recommend him to people who really study hard and love Astronomy and space. If you're not into it then don't take this class.
Glenn Tiede talks for the whole class and he does not use Canvas so you do not know your grades until after each test is taken. Tests are worth the majority of your grade and they are very difficult.
