Simply amazing. The material is hard but he is very willing to help and makes classes fun & interesting. Wish he taught more psych classes @ GV! Highly recommend him, you won't be disappointed :)

Reads only the slides he posts. Only 4 exams, no homework but you must study hard because they are difficult.
Nice professor but rather boring. Only 4 tests in the whole class. No homework or projects to help your grade. No matter how hard I studied I never got a good grade. Made the class rather difficult for a 101 class.
Interesting lectures keep attention with humor and actual good learning material. Maybe not as available as he could be, and more explicit use of text would've helped, but all-in-all a good prof.
I thought that this class was very hard and that he expected too much when it came to exams!
i studied so hard for the final in this class, and did awful. and what is worst is you think you did good and you didnt. his exams are rediculous. He expects too much for a 101 class.
he's a really nice and down to earth guy. He uses like everyday examples to keep it interesting, but his expectations for a psych 101 class.... are far too high! he's too smart for a 100 level class!
Good professor but tough. Expects a lot and tests are hard but he curves your final grade so that can help.
I thought he was a really good prof overall. Very funny, willing to help, never makes you feel stupid. However it is very hard to do well in the class because there is so much material and only exams and 1 final. No homework, tests, etc. to help bring your grade up. Overall great prof.
Great professor. The subject matter is difficult but he makes classes fun and interesting. The review sessions are EXTREMELY helpful.
A hard psy 101 class. I saw what other 101 classes had on their final and I still had a lot of subject to cover. His exams are almost all application, so make sure you know the vocab and well. The book is boring and the chapters are about 40-60 pages each so that makes them boring to read. Lectures are nothing but powerpoint and you writing.
Attendance not needed, lectures from book and posts his slides on BB. Studying is a must though!!!
GREAT Professor. Easy to understand & always willing to help. Course material is difficult and you NEED to study, but he will make sure you understand the material...and also has very good review sessions you DON'T want to miss. Text book is not required..no reading. Would definately take him again!
Very interesting man and class. Presents the material in a way that captures your attention and encourages you to be engaged in the class. Study hard for his tests because they aren't as easy as you'd expect from him. Overall, a great experience and he is definately one of my favorite Profs from last semester. Plus, he's really adorable!
Nice guy, but made a 101 course far too difficult. He needs to be teaching something more advanced. Tests are very difficult even with studying.
He is really great. He is willing to help you in anyway possable. He is funny and very cute!!
This professor is very fun and keeps the class interesting. All of the powerpoint presentations are on blackboard and if you study those you will do pretty good on the tests. Grade is based on three tests, a final, and participation.
Great Professor. Has a very easy grading system. He either takes your final exam grade... or the grade from the rest of the year. He gives random extra credit. Great Guy. PSY 101 with Valdez is an easy class.
He's a nice guy but the class is kinda whack. Tests are your grade so do well. but it that doesnt work the final can substitute for it. But do well on them all to be safe.
While he is funny to listen to, he has an obnoxious laugh, and says the word psychology very strangley. He once said "um" 100 times in a 50 minute class. His tests have nothing to do with what happens in class, and you cant study for them. Averages are terrible, and the class is much too hard for a 101 course. Overall terrible.
Your grade pretty much consists of 3 exams and then the final. He'll take the better grade of either the first 3 exams or your grade on the final. Also a little part of your grade is enrichment programs which are easy survey labs. You don't need a book for this class either, he has slides on blakcboard! Tests are very conceptional so no big ideas.
Some of the topics covered are tough but with enough studying, I believe almost all students can do well in the class. Prof Valdez is willing to go over any material that students don't get, so don't be afraid to tell him to slow down! He is very knowledgeable on the field, and has interesting class topics. Attendance is very important.
Very enthusiastic prof, kept your attention throughout class despite it's early time. However there is no textbook and I often found inaccuracies in in his lectures and the information he gave us. It made me not trust the things he was lecturing about. I would be cautious when taking him.
Glenn is awesome! No homework and 3 exams and a final. if final is better than average of all4 exams he'll take the grade of the final.. Extremely helpful and made class very fun =) He was very willing to help to and go over stuff during office hours. All you need to do is study the powerpoints and youll ace the class!
He is so cute its hard not to pay attention to him. He makes this class, which seems impossible, kind of OK. Exams are kind of hard, but he has great reviews. He is AWSOME. TAKE HIM!!!! no txtbook, that is a plus.
Print power-points before class. Attend class, take thorough notes and never miss a review session. He is an awesome professor and willing to repeat and review anything you need him to.
The first day I attended I thought this was going to be the worst class I've ever had--that was not the case at all. It's requires you to have to attend every class and study but you learn so much and he explains everything in such detail. I would say this is one of the best classes I've ever taken. Show up, no book, take notes. A-
Great class, awesome prof
He puts notes up on blackboard ahead of time, explains the material pretty well. Attendence not mandatory, but it would be hard to skip alot. The tests are based off of his powerpoints and what he talks about in class. No textbook!
Fun professor, and a good teacher too. The class is tough but he is very helpful. Make sure you attend the exam reviews.
I was really nervous about this class, but Valdez is so concise and clear about the important points. If you go to the review sessions he practically tells you the exam questions (which are essay)& don't buy the textbook, he tells you everything he expects you to know in lecture.
Glenn is amazing. First day of class he was so enthusiastic and I thought it would have to die down, but no, he came to class perky every day. His tests are hard. 50 multiple choice questions each. 60 for the final. Study the power point and you'll be golden.
Awesome person, extremely smart, great sense of humor! Attendance NOT mandatory, but do NOT skip. The book follows his discussions very well, but he explains everything with much more clarity. Go to every class especially review sessions (REALLY help guide you for the exam questions, which are essay but NOT bad at all). You'll leave with an A :)
Great prof and very helpful!! DO NOT buy the book! His lectures are easy to follow and he goes over material as much as necessary...be prepared to take a lot of notes though! The review sessions tell you exactly what will be on the test, which is essays. Easy to do well if you study the material and practice writing the essays!
AMAZING professor! Do NOTTTT buy the book though - it was a $90 waste!! He is an extremely helpful professor and is very clear when explaining the lessons. You definitely should go to class - print off the PowerPoints he posts on BB then take notes in class. Definitely made me LOVE psych!! He is great!!!!!!!!!!
AMAZING!!! Glenn is so much fun, and his class was very interesting. he made me figure out what i wanted to do later!! suggest him to everyone who wants to enjoy psychology
Valdez is a wonderful teacher and he is very helpful. He offers extra credit and he is outgoing. His tests are hard so dont be fooled. Attendace is not mandatory and no textbook needed!
Tough subject, but he makes it doable. Great guy overall, good warm vibe, very supportive and answers questions, repeats material until everyone understands what's going on. His tests are essays, but you can draw and do whatever, he only cares that you know the material, not how it's presented. Do the summary articles, they will help grade greatly!
Professor Valdez was an awesome teacher. He is so good at explaining the concepts, and he definitely knows what he is talking about. Most classes i dread going to, but i actually looked forward to going to his. he encourages class participation, which furthers understanding. I highly recommend taking his class.
He is a great teacher! I loved going to his class. He knew how to make it interesting even when the subject was not. He puts notes up on blackboard before class so you can print them off and take your own notes as he goes through them. I would deffinately reccomend him to anyone!
First off, you DO need the book! Though you only use it for the weekly quizzes. This professor is my fave at GV so far. He's so funny and down to earth. Plus, you learn a ton of crazy, interesting stuff in his class and have some class debates, so go! This guy is just a fun teacher, very easy to talk to as well. Take his class!
He's a very nice man. On the 1st day I actually thought he was just one of us students! The exams are fine as long as you study. You do need the textbook for quizzes. He makes class interesting and I look forward to it. I recommend him.
Difficult subject, but way fun class! Professor Valdez knows his stuff and is all about making it fun. Missed quite a few classes and it was okay. Exam review days are KEY, he tells you exactly what'll be on the test. 4 tests & one 5 page paper, that's IT! No textbook either. Loved him!
It's a hard class but it is so worth it because Glenn is hilarious and engages everyone. He is a fabulous prof and really knows his stuff. You really need to go to class and the reviews because he'll tell you what is on the tests. His tests are hard (essay) so make sure you know the material. I highly recommend him AND this class.
Glenn is a very nice professor. He is very clear on his information. His exams are tough but if you study they're not bad. You need the book for the online quizzes but those aren't bad either. I would definitely recommend him.
Really great professor! Highly recommend taking him, especially if it's just for a gened class. I feel like I learned a LOT, even though it wasn't the easiest. First test was challenging, but got better. Makes class interesting and teaches the material really well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to do good, go to class and TAKE NOTES!
Took him for the Pharmocology class. I LOVED him!! He really knows his stuff and is very helpful! Plus he's super cute! The tests are difficult, but if you come to the review session, he will tell you everything that's on the them. I recommend him to everyone!!
Glenn is a great guy, the class isn't too challenging and as long as you study for the exams you'll do fine. He makes the material very interesting and really knows his stuff. Attendance isn't mandatory but I highly recommend going to class and taking notes for a good grade.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! His teaching makes it very easy to grasp concepts, and his examples are always used on the tests so go to class. It's a fun learning environment. And NO he is not gay, even though many think that the first time they meet him. He just is friendly, dresses well& is a character!
He's one of those professors that make your friends wished they had for PSY101! First impressions aren't always the most accurate but #1 he's not gay (he likes to talk about his daughter/wife) & #2 he's not asian. He gives lots of extra credit when he feels like it...so you should take this prof (:
PSY 101 with Dr. Valdez was pretty easy, especially compared to what I heard about other profs. He goes through the slides fast, which can be scary, but he tests mainly on main concepts, not the details that often fill the slides. Study class notes & slides and don't worry about the book. He's an entertaining guy, which helps the class go faster
Such a funny, precious professor! Take him!
Professor Valdez is an incredible professor, and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing to take this course! The content of the course can be a little daunting, but if you go to class and pay attention you will be fine! He is an incredibly fair professor that truly seems to do all that he can to make sure you succeed in his class.
Valdez is a funny and entertaining professor. He knows the material well and can relate it well to us. The exams seem to get progressively harder but if you study they are very manageable.
YES. Do yourself a favor and give this class a try, even if it doesn't sound interesting or seems daunting. I have never had such a clear, patient prof. He will repeat, re-explain, anything to help you learn the material. You will learn a lot, and he goes out of his way to make sure the class doesn't kill you. Great opportunity to learn biopsych.
His exams are very difficult. I am an A-B+ student, and I couldn't get more than a B- on any of his exams. He does offer an extra credit opportunity, so do it if you can. It is a substantial amount of E.C.
Valdez is very personable and down to earth. He makes his class interesting by giving funny examples. The exams are in essay form and will take you almost the whole hour but he tells you what to expect so it makes it a tad bit easier
Valdez is SUPER funny, covers fascinating material, talks about drugs a lot, and has a good teaching method. Prepare to take a lot of notes on slides. GO TO REVIEW DAYS! 4 exams, 5 hw assignments, 2 quizzes. Class was challenging but easy to study for. Don't be afraid of taking it!
At first he can seem a bit stuck up, but he is so helpful and really helps you learn and understand Psychology. I HIGHLY recommend taking him!
Best Professor ever! He made a very difficult subject easy to get excited about and understand. His lectures are super interesting, and he does a great job preparing students for assignments and exams. He is also semi-flexible and truly WANTS students to succeed.
This class has a lot of information to retain. He gives you an online quiz for every chapter. The tests are very confusing. It's just a lot of material to remember for them. Going to class is a must to pass because he gives you information thats going to be on the exams. This is just a hard class. But he is an okay professor.
This is the easiest yet hardest class you can take. The material is incredibly intimidating, but Glen tells you EXACTLY what you need to know for the exams and has no problem explaining material over and over again. I can't imagine taking this class with anyone else. He sets you up to get an A, if you get less than that it is your own fault
If you are at all interested in this subject, take this course. Professor Valdez is a smart guy with a great sense of humor. He is clear, concise, and interesting.
This class is a lot of material and he's a fast talker but as long as you study and take good notes, you should do well. The tests are 100% essay format and he usually tells you most of the concept questions that will be on there so you know what to zero-in on for the test. Do the teaching extra credit!
Professor Valdez is awesome! I definitely would take this class again. However, I would say if you havent had a physiology class before it will be challenging but if you attend class and ask questions you will be fine.
He's a popular professor and very smart. His lecture is interesting and fast paced, be sure you take all the notest that he went over. Exams are not so hard but the review session is the key to getting an A in the exam. The assignment can be tough but he's willing to make collaboration before you turn it in.
This prof is so amazing! He is hilarious & I wish I could take him again. So many of my friends tell me how their psych prof is boring or difficult but Glenn teaches it so well with such funny real life examples from his own life that it's enjoyable & easier to grasp. One pointer would be, the examples he says is class are the examples on tests.
Amazing professor. HILARIOUS. Gives study guides and makes lectures very fun and interesting. Gives study guides, online quizzes from the book, and some homework assignments.
Great guy, lecture is not even necessary but I enjoy listening.
Typical intro class, he uses many examples in lecture and while attendance is not mandatory, he uses his in class examples as questions on the exams, quizzes over every chapter that are easy because you can use your book
I thought I was going to hate psychopharm because I hate science classes, but this was such an awesome class. Glenn makes it fun and interesting but the topics themselves are very interesting. Great prof, he's SUPER smart and it shows, but he's willing to go over topics again and again until you get it. Highly recommend recording lectures.
I got an A without reading anything in the textbook, there's quizzes for each chapter online but you can get the answers from the lecture. There's four assignments that aren't long at all throughout the year and the exams are easy as long as you take good notes. I went to all the lectures and he's a really funny guy.
I was dreading taking psych 101 after finding out it was the most failed class at GV. Prof. Valdez was an amazing prof; his powerpoints were super easy to understand, he gave great study guides, and most of the test is just definitions and examples from lecture. the quizzes are super easy too. if you actually study&show up, you'll get an A.
Prof Valdez is a great professor. Even though I had him in a lecture hall he was always interacting with the class. He did read off slides but also expanded off of the slides with examples that were always on the tests. Extra credit was given a couple of times. It's good to actually know the material b/c the tests are mostly application based.
Prof. Valdez is the best! The subject matter seems super intimidating a difficult, but his lectures make it very tangible and easy to understand. But his lecture slides are not helpful unless you go to class and take notes, so don't skip class. I never used the books so don't bother buying it. Easiest 400 level class.
In my 16 years of school Professor Valdez is the best teacher I have ever had. He is able to make a very complicated subject and teach it in a way that makes it seem easy. He knows exactly when to repeat things and ask if anyone has any questions. He is hilarious and has some great stories. If you study and if you go to class, you will be fine
He made behavioral neuroscience interesting to me, and that's an accomplishment in and of itself. His tests are essay format, and he gives you the questions beforehand. The class is challenging but doable. He's pretty clear of his expectations in the class and is very nice.
Tries way hard to be funny. Only reason attendance is mandatory is because of the Top Hat account. I sometimes will skip class but be awake during class hours and use Top Hat from my bed. You honestly could read the books and look online at his posted power points and you'd be fine. He offers a decent amount of extra credit, which is nice.
If you pay attention in class you will do fine
I loved having him for my psychology prof! After having a rough time with psychology in high school, he made the material very simple and easy to learn. His exams have a lot of examples that he talks about in class, so even though he doesn't care if you skip class, I wouldn't recommend it. He gives a good amount of times to get extra credit also.
Valdez was the best professor I had this semester, he was helpful, caring and hilarious. He made psychology so fun and interesting.
Psych at GV is a tough class, but professor Valdez made it very doable to succeed. You do have participation points, & should go to class if you want to do well but missing a class won't kill your grade. 3 exams not including the final, online quizzes based off of the book, several extra credit opportunities. He cares & finds ways to boost grades.
Valdez was one of the best professors I've had this semester. He explains things well and really makes sure you understand. He is approachable and as long as you go to class and know the terms you will succeed. Participation matters but you just type your answers instead of saying things in front of the class so it's easy. Quizzes are easy.
I LOVE PROF. VALDEZ. The course is really hard and a lot of reading and note-taking, but he makes it super interesting and easy to pay attention. You definitely can't skip class, but if you show up and pay attention it's not awful. Only complaint is the exams are completely essay format.
Fun, engaging personality. Gives bland powerpoints for notes and heavily expands on them in lecture. Talks fast but is very helpful. Gives review sheet a week early that resembles the test "word for word." Review session is key, he gives answers. Tests are heavily essay format with short answer and key terms. Gives quizzes on BB.
Such a fun class! I was nervous going into the class as Psych is a tough course at GV but Prof Valdez made Psych 101 doable and easy. You shouldn't skip class as the lecture notes are pretty bland but he gives great in class examples and uses humor to teach.
Overall great professor, would definitely take him again. He tells great stories to tie in with lecture and gives great examples too. Its a lot of terms to remember, but he made the class enjoyable.
Dr. Valdez is an amazing professor. The content is overwhelming but the way he teaches it he makes it easier and more fun to learn. He's always willing to coordinate with students. He does a quiz before the exams which helps divide the material so it's not all one one exam. He's funny and always has stories and examples which help you learn.
Professor Valdez was a great professor! Aside from exams, psych experiments, and in-class TopHat questions, there was no other class work. He made lecture very interesting by using real world examples to explain psychology concepts. He related to his students well and the exams are straight from the powerpoints and his examples in class.
Mr. Valdez is a really nice professor. I had to retake PSY330 b/c I failed the first time with another professor. Mr. Valdez organizes the content so it makes sense & covers everything you need to know for the exam in class. He also does an in class review before the exam day & provides a study guide. He wants to teach & wants you to succeed.
Valdez was my first professor and I loved him. The lectures were awesome and by being in class and doing the weekly online quizzes I actually understood what I was learning. His study guides tell you everything that will be on the test and he's super accessible and gives so many opportunities to earn extra credit points. Would recommend!
Glenn Valdez is the best professor I could have asked for in psychology. Not only does he have a great way of getting everyone in the class engaged, but he also makes it impossible to do poorly in his class. For the final, if your exam grade is higher than your overall grade in the class, he makes the grade of your final your grade in the class.
Valdez is one of the best professors at GVSU!! He makes a very very very difficult class manageable. 4 exams total (none are cumulative) but they all are essay tests. He gives you the 7 questions before 1 is normally required and you pick 4 of the remaining 6 to answer. Not an easy class by any means but Valdez makes it enjoyable!
Professor Valez is probably the most understanding professor I have had at Grand Valley. He is not judgemental if you're late to class or ask a lot of questions. His exam reviews are almost identical to his actual exams so you should get at lowest a B if you accurately remember his exam review. I wish he taught more classes. Easiest 400 level class
TAKE THIS CLASS! Glen Valdez is a great professor and the class is very interesting! A heads up-all exams are short answer/essay (aka no multiple choice) so you need to know your stuff. This prof also talks fast but hes MORE than happy to repeate himself. He also holds a review session the class before the exam which helps! Overall-take this prof!
TAKE THIS GUY! BEST lectures, knows what hes talking about and is more than willing to re-explain things to students. Talks extremely fast but is more than willing to repeat himself back to you. His tests are written but he gives you exactly what you need to know and if you study you'll do great. No textbook.
TAKE PROFESSOR VALDEZ. He is an amazing professor and presents the information in a very fun and interesting way. His exams are all short answer so you have to study a lot but he's very clear about what exactly will be on the exam. I recorded every lecture and it helped immensely. I would definitely take him again!
He talks crazy fast and lectures the whole time but he is very nice and will repeat himself if you ask/let you record lectures. He is really helpful if you go to his office hours with questions. All the exams are short answer/essay, there are 7 questions but you choose 5 to answer. He does a review before each exam. He has a dark sense of humor.
Dr. Valdez is a great professor, he posts all of his lectures online and gives a study guide for each exam (4). There is no textbook and attendance is not mandatory. I highly recommend that you record his lectures because there is a lot of information being given in a short amount of time. Exams are short answer but he makes it clear what to expect
Valdez is one of the best professors I've had at GVSU. Instructions were always clear and he really helps you understand the material. All tests are short answer, but you will be more than prepared for all of them; reading assignments are relatively easy. Overall he is a great prof and truly cares about his students. Take him!!!
He is such a great professor. He lets you know exactly what will be on the exams and has a class before exams where he answers questions. With a good amount of studying, his class is very easy to do well in. He is also really funny and makes the materials fun to learn. I actually enjoyed studying for his class
Amazing dude. Though the material of this course is difficult, Valdez presents the information in a clear, straight-forward, and organized way. Learned so much in every single one of his lectures. Please take him if you get the opportunity.
I'm actually really bummed that evaluations weren't sent out by GV this semester (COVID). Prof Valdez was one of the best professors I've ever had. His tests were hard but he made sure that you knew exactly what he expected ahead of time. A seriously great guy that knows his stuff. I HIGHLY recommend taking him. BEST PROF EVER (and super funny)
The best professor I have ever had. He gives amazing lectures, is relatable, and hilarious. He is always accessible and gives a lot of interest in his students. He is understanding and one of the smartest people I have had as a professor. Honestly couldn't be better.
The live lectures were accessible online but that was mainly review. He posts very digestible chunks of video lectures for every unit and makes it very interesting. Easily my favorite professor I've had. All the answers for quizzes and exams are directly in his video lectures. Interesting material and so easy to make an A while being engaged.
Valdez is the funniest/nicest professor ever. He made this class as easy as possible. Open note exams so he grades a little tougher but if you take notes and pay attention then it's not even an issue. I actually enjoyed seeing what he has to say because he uses great examples for the subject
This was suppose to say PSY 330 but there was no option. I honestly have no complaints for the prof. This class was very easy (open note not timed tests) and the lectures were actually very interesting and he is really funny. Promptly responds to emails, organization of the class was amazing, overall a great guy.
Love him! Took his asynchronous class this semester and he made it very clear what he wanted. He's the best 330 prof in the program so try and get him! His exams are essay but since I was online it was open note.
This class is tough period. You have to put in a lot of work, but the information is SO interesting. Professor Valdez is the BEST, he is very clear on what he expects of you, he tells you exactly how the exams are going to go and whats going to be on them. He makes sure youre really understanding everything. Take it with him you wont regret it.
Valdez is very nice and very smart. He speaks very quickly in his lectures so its hard to keep up sometimes. If youre a psych major and/or dont know a lot about pharmacology then I highly recommend you take a different course. This course is barely a psych course and its very difficult. His exams are very difficult as well.
best professor i've ever had. super helpful when you don't understand what is going on & made difficult material easy somehow
He is a very nice person and he enjoys being in class, but I think he enjoys it too much. Everything was a joke the whole time and people loved that but I actually wanted to learn more and we were constantly side tracked with off topic stories. I barely learned anything which was disappointing considering how much tuition cost. It is a very easy A
Prof Valdez is one of my favorite professors. At first, I was reading the textbook, but then stopped because I got more out of his lectures. His lectures are great and it's easy to ask questions. He's also very willing to help you and available via email and/or office hours. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, I recommend going to lectures.
Take Valdez for this class. His exams are almost all short answer and essay questions, but he basically tells you what is on them in his study guides. Also, try to go to class because he does say some things that aren't necessarily on his PowerPoints that appear on quizzes and exams.
Professor Valdez cares about his students and is always joking around. Hes a fast talker but is always willing to go back and explain things further if needed. His exams are all short answers but he tells you the topics beforehand.
AMAZING professor! He made the lectures extremely interesting and fun. He really cares about his students and is always willing to help in anyway he can. He is also HILARIOUS! There wasn't one class where I didn't laugh. My ONLY issue was his exams being essay format. You REALLY needed to know your stuff.
This class is very lecture heavy and although attendance isn't required, the content is dense and it's important you show up. Prof. Valdez makes learning very difficult material interesting and easy to follow. He is a great professor and a great guy. I really appreciate his effort into teaching + keeping his students on track. 12/10 recommend.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. He is now the best professor I have ever had @ GVSU. He actually cares about students - cares more about us actually learning the material rather than just memorizing for exams/quizzes. NO extra or hard homework, & easy exams/quizzes you attend his lectures. TAKE HIS CLASSES - still the best in PSY 432
So much lecture and if you don't go to class and take fast notes your never going to do well on exams because they're all writing.
Professor Valdez is great! He is funny and keeps the material in PSY 432 engaging. It is important to go to class and to take good notes because the exams are short answers.
Great professor, lectures can get boring if you're not interested but he makes the homework and tests really easy. I did not buy the book and did very well in his class based on his lecture notes provided. Exams were essay format (online at home, 2 days to complete) and I feel like he gave us everything we needed to succeed
Took this as an accelerated course in the summer. He was super funny and nice; he really wants to get to know his students so go to his office hours. Online lectures were time consuming, but you do not need the textbook- just take really good notes from his lectures. He is very straight forward and it's pretty easy to get an A if you do the work
Probably the best professor I've ever had. He is an excellent lecturer and is very kind if you need extra help on anything. If you show up to class and pay close attention you should do well in his course. Also, he is a very funny guy who makes his class very interesting.
He is SUCH a good guy. If you are someone who like to dish it out, he will give it right back. He swears, talks about drugs and will make you laugh during every class. If you go to office hours right before the exams he is super helpful. They are written, but if you study you will be fine!
Dr. Valdez is an amazing professor who dedicates himself to his lectures and his students. Worked with me when I needed it, and responds to emails quickly. The content was very interesting for this course. Exams could be challenging but certainly not impossible. If I ever had the option to take a class he teaches again, I wouldn't hesitate.
Nice guy, knows his stuff and tries to make class entertaining. Likes to joke around. His exams are impossible. Exams are short answer and you have to know so many details. If you miss just a little bit of information you will lose a lot of points on the exam questions. He makes a difficult topic even harder. Very little time to finish the exams.
I was SHOCKED to see the good rates on here. I am a good student and I barely passed this class. From being on deans list for two years to almost failing this class. The majority of your points come from the exams which are impossible btw. They're just 5 written out paragraphs and you HAVE TO get every detail correct. He is caring but that's it.
what you need to do: before exam write out your answers & go to his office hours for him to check them over, get a whiteboard and write out your answers until you have them memorized. He loves to joke around and wants you to do well. If you don't want to put in the work, you won't do well. Exams are written, but not impossible. Don't get the book.
Great professor and clearly very knowledgable about the course material. The 3 exams were all essay format which seemed quite overwhelming at first. If you study in advance and if you really put the effort in, you should do just fine. There were also 10 open-note quizzes, 4 video discussion posts, 2 article assignments, and participation points.
Dr. Valdez is an extremely smart guy. He is funny and easily accessible outside of class. However, this is a hard class. Lectures are short and loaded with info so it's hard to process all of it. Tests are "short answer" only, so it's a lot of studying and can be exhausting. Not a super fun class, but if you need to take it, take it with Valdez.
This is the hardest but best class I've taken so far. He's amazing at explaining as long as you're brave enough to speak up when you're confused! It's easy to fall behind and you need to dedicate a lot of time to the class. Tells you exactly what will be on exams, doesn't try to trick you. I love him!
He is one of my favorite professors!! He is so caring, passionate about neuroscience, good at explaining what we are learning about, and wants us to succeed in his class. He is also SO funny and loves to joke around with us during class. This can be a hard class but if you need to take it, take it with Valdez!
The information in this course is just super difficult overall, but Professor Valdez is very passionate about the subject. I would say make use of office hours if you're struggling at all with the concepts because he's a tough grader when it comes to exam questions. Also, get ready to take quick notes because he goes extremely fast during lectures!
Despite the content itself being difficult, Professor Valdez was always happy to answer any question and go over things multiple times to help us understand. Easily accessible outside of class and genuinely helpful during office hours. The exams are hard, but if you study everything on the study guide and ask for help when needed, it'll be okay!
the class seemed interesting and I was excited to take it but after the first test i realized he's funny and nice but impossible at grading. You have to memorize everything and put it word for word on the test Missing one tiny thing kills your grade. He doesn't give points back even when my answer was basically the same as someone else.
Prof V is very nice and smart. His classes can be kinda hard at times but overall it really is not bad. You have 2 hw assignments and weekly quizzes. His tests are straightforward and the exact same as the study guide so if you do not then its kinda your fault. Take him, one of the best profs I've had.
I thought this class would be a lot more interesting than it was. You have to go to class and take perfect notes and then memorize them if you want to get a good grade. I'm a slower writer and I always worried about running out of time on tests or forget to include something and get points off.
Professor Valdez brings a lot of passion, enthusiasm, & charisma to this subject, making understanding much easier. He is incredibly intelligent & clearly understands the material he teaches. His lectures go really fast but he will always stop to ask if there are any questions so don't be afraid to ask. His exams are HARD, so study hard for them.
I am not planning on doing anything in the medical, pharmaceutical, or psychological fields so I was extremely nervous going into this class with very little background knowledge he made things extremely easy to understand! I rarely felt confused, and when I did my questions were easily answered. As well he is extremely funny and approachable.
Valdez is very kind and funny. Always helps in any way he can for you to succeed. Psych 330 is a DIFFICULT course, he teaches the material in the most manageable way it can get. YOU NEED TO CONSTANTLY GO OVER THE MATERIAL AND GO TO CLASS YOU CANT CRAM LAST MINUTE YOU'LL FAIL! Exams are vocab and essay questions, no multiple choice. No extra credit.
OMG!! I loved Professor Valdez! Be warned that this is a test heavy class and you will NEED to study for the tests and can't cram for them. But he will help you understand the material and is available most days to help you after class. He is so nice and funny in this class! One of my favorite professor!!
cares about his students and hes really nice but the class was so hard, 3 short answer non cumulative exams that are hard to study for with really dense lectures and lots of studying (longgg study guides) i feel like lots of these are based on how funny he is and not how good of a professor he is sadly
Loved having Prof Valdez for this difficult class! Gives great study guides that are identical to exam. Studied hard for this class but he is an awesome prof. Super considerate and was always entertaining!
I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on this professor. His exams are not impossible by any means, and he gives you ALL of the materials to prepare (I got a 100, 97, and 100) for the three exams, but if you do not go to class, you might as well not take this class because you simply will not be able to pass. He is amazing all around as a college prof!
Caring, comical, down to earth prof. Watch lectures, download slides, and prepare exam questions early and you should be good!
Take this class if you love memorization and long tests.
DO NOT TAKE HIM, genuinely made me tweak out. I had to drop the course because of how genuinely bad it was. I am a dean's list student, and I study a lot, but he genuinely has the most test-heavy and complex bs in here.
Love this professor, I wish I could take him again. The class is not easy, but he made it understandable. The tests are bound to be hard because of the subject matter, but if you study, you'll do good. As a bonus, he is a very funny professor who cares about his students. I definitely would recommend him.
He is so chill but go to lecture because he gives a lot of information that is not always on the slides.
One of my favorite profs. He explained things as well as possible in class and would post lecture videos online in case someone was absent or needed to hear it again. If you pay attention and do not push things off till the last minute, there is no reason for you to fail. He genuinely cares about you and your grade and is always eager to help.
Valdez is an absolutely amazing prof for Psychopharm. He is so enthusiastic and you can tell that, not only does he know so much, but he loves teaching it. Entertaining lectures and great anecdotes. As long as you study for his exams you should be fine (matching and short answer). His only thing is sometimes he talks too fast out of excitement
If you want a good grade be sure to memorize everything he says and be able to write it exactly like that on tests.
Very clear about what was due and what would be on exams. You do need to pay attention in lecture because not everything is on the slides, but he makes things easy to understand and always answers questions clearly. Exams were straightforward, and he allows a cheat-sheet. If you show up and study, this class is very manageable.
Overall, Prof. Valdez is a great professor. Passionate about the subject and teaches entertainingly. However, this class is challenging. Be sure to study well in advance because there are a lot of details to know for the written exams (no multiple choice at all). It was challenging to finish the exam in just 50 minutes. He is also a harsh grader.
