thinks everything is a film class
riveting
Didn't learn a thingAll he did was talk about his dreams of being a film maker!
Dont take this prof!

good guy, but I didn't find his class challenging

One of the most inspiring professors I have ever met. His enthusiasm for literature and film was contagious. I will never look at a film in the same way again.
He makes you understand films in a whole new way. You will love The English Patient after taking this class.
Sometimes boring classes, but easy and informative. Learned a lot. We read Jane Eyre, English Patient, and a bunch of short stories.
It was very easy to know what he wants to test you (I'm test-oriented) becuz he focuses on the ENglish patient. He will tell U many stories about films, which were the most interesting moment in this class.
Good course, cute prof.
Good prof, easy class. You just watch movies and talk about them. No tests, just quizzes and two essays. He is a moderatley easy marker. I would recommend.
great prof you can tell he loves what he does and it shows every class
Good class, but most of the films are****y. Didn't appreciate that aspect, but enjoyed the readings, and class discussion.
awesome teacher, loved his exam policy
Awesome easy teacher...be sure to attend class, have a quiz most days, if thats what you want to call it. for example "What happens to the horse in the story?" And no final exam! a 5 page essay instead...no worries
Good prof, good class.
LOVE HIS COURSE,AND A NICE GUY. LEARN MOVIES
Extremely easy class, our "exam" mark was made up of quizzes like "what was the main character's name?" Very animated teaching style.

VERY BAD PROF. very unhelpful, unclear about what his points are, can be rude, he was more interested in being cool that teaching anything useful, if you're a guy he'll like you, girls not so much. Make sure to do all the reading and participate a bit in class. Not recommended
Awesome prof. Easy class, though mature and insightful essays are required. Don't take this course if you're slow or have trouble with English, because he does go a mile a minute. Other than that, taking his course taught me so much about film and literature, and I felt I left the class each night with new knowledge.
What a great professor to have. One who actually listens to students and makes the subject completely interesting. To add, a funny man as well. The 2 hour class with him seemed like an hour. Take this prof!
He moves fast, not always sure what to take notes on. Must go to class, if you do you should get a B or better. It's about what he has to say so limit answers to what he thinks, not so much your point of view.
I'm on the fence. He's clearly very passionate about his subject, and knows A LOT about it, but still theres something not quite right about him. He plays favourites and tries to be cool in class, to NO avail. But the course is interesting. Make sure to go, cause you'll have a mini test at the beginning of every class.
Not an awful guy, but his class wasn't interesting. It was hard to follow and I wasn't sure where to take notes. If it wasn't for his daily mini-tests, I never would have shown up to class. Very uninteresting and uninformative.
He was a great professor, sometimes a little boring. Never write something in an essay that goes against his opinion or you're looking at an 'F' (no joke). He's very passionate and a good person deep down.
He loves the sound of his own voice, so much that he will ask a question and then answer it himself. Every class is watching movies. and most classes have a 5 min test that are SUPER easy. More so a film class than English class, as he used to work in the film industry. If you actually go to class you will get an easy A. No exams, just term papers.
Likes to pick favorites in the very beginning of the course, doesn't discuss much, and he will go weeks without much work then BAM, HAVE FUN!
Easy class, no final exam. Made material interesting. On a negative note, do not disagree with his opinions when writing an essay...you will not get as good of a mark.
Very hard to follow, unorganized and not helpful at all. Don't bother emailing him he will NEVER reply, hard to get a hold of for help - not clear at all - the readings were interesting and he's a good guy but I wouldn't pick him as a prof again.
He is an AWESOME before taking his class I used to hate literature now I love literature. His classes are so interesting I did not miss any of his class and every day I would learn something new .I will take another course with him any day .
Professor Walton is a really fun guy. He's incredibly knowledgeable and really knows his stuff. A little bit scatterbrained, but overall it was a good class. Much of the mark came from basic reading quizzes. He's a pretty lenient marker, so if you go to class and do the readings, you should be looking at a good mark.
Amazing prof, no midterm or final, 55% of mark is made up from in class quizzes. Never had a big interest in English but that changed after taking class with him
Picks favorites. Unorganized. Bad hygiene. Nice enough, but I wouldn't take another class with him.
Good prof. You need to go to class to do well, but classes are interesting so that shouldn't be a problem.
so kind, and willing to help people.
Very sweet guy. LOVES Shakespeare. Before his class i hated Shakespeare but i didn't mind it after! Mostly watches movies. Tells yous exactly what you need to know!
He is an amazing teacher. He tried to learn everyone's name and he got majority of the class, including mines. Very nice man. I enjoyed him. I wish he taught more classes than just English courses. He cracked funny jokes every class and was always very enthusiastic. I am actually suppose to be doing his class right now but.....
Such a sweet man! Great passion for English and it shows through in his teachings. Funny guy, always interacting with students while lecturing. Makes readings interesting and always goes over them. Enjoyed going to his class as he was always in high spirits.
He is an amazing Prof and willing to help. I was really interested in his class,
Easy course because it's fun! Made up of mostly small tests on readings, if you keep up with them you'll do great. Grade is from reading quizzes, one easy group presentation, a simple response paper and three analytical quizzes. Cracks a lot of jokes and keeps your attention. Be ready to watch a lot of movies and read a lot of poems!
Walton is my favorite prof so far at smu , the man is hilarious and always cracks me up . Course was relatively easy and i hope to have him again one day
best prof, very interesting class, don't miss the movies its the best part.
Professor Walton is enthusiastic about his subjects and wants his students to enjoy themselves and do well. He gives small reading quizzes and lots of insight into what will be on larger tests. One group project. If you pay attention in class and enjoy English you will do well. Likes it when you repeat his opinion back to him on tests and papers.
Terrific professor. Charismatic, entertaining, and approachable. This guy lives and breathes the arts. Despite some reviews of him I've been reading; he encourages you to bring your own ideas if you can make a good case. Heads up: if you show up to class without doing the required readings he'll be pissed.
best prof ever! he sends emails to all his students before each test/quiz to tell us exactly whats going to be on it. sit at the front of the class and you get to hear all his side comments, hilarious!
He was in Titanic. Nuff Said
Generally easy prof, super nice and funny. Will be pissed if you don't bring the poems/readings to class. Talks a lot, but it's a good thing. If you just listen and do what he says, should be an easy A. He was in the titanic.
Glenn's one of my favorite profs ever! He made the material very easy compared to most of the profs. Glenn is absolutely hilarious and helpful. Throughout the term we focused on watching movies & reading a few short stories. He always gave us a short summary of what exactly comes in the exam beforehand. TAKE GLENN YALLS WILL PASS!
I honestly came on here to see if people had the same opinion about Glenn as I did while taking the class, and I am shocked. I found him to be SO scattered, all over the place, unclear about marking criteria, and just plain rude. Yes, he is hilarious and extremely passionate, but I cannot cope with his unorganizaton. I'm an A student, I got a B-.
Glenn is very into the arts and wants you to feel the same about English as he does. And honestly he's pretty convincing. His classes are quite fun and if you attend he breaks down every poem/play/essay down to the main points so it's all very easy to understand. In terms of the class it is very minimal work to get in the A's
Glenn truly has a love for arts, as he shows (focuses mainly on plays, and poems). If youre looking for a class with an unorganized professor, minimal work (one essay, one PowerPoint, quizzes, and no midterm or final) and enjoy watching movies. Then you have found the right class. One great thing is that he explains topics thoroughly.
Funny, easy maker, and theres no exams.
Easiest ENGL1205 course you could take. Watch a bunch of movies, no tests just take home quizzes, and no final. I felt like I learned lots but did no work for this class. Very laid back and you could hand something in weeks late and he would still take it. Cool guy.
he focuses on films quite a bit and it refreshing given the numerous years we spend in english reading novels. Very easy marker and asks for only so much on the quizzes that you can take home. Also, he constantly says he is not a due date fascist. Great guy, i recommend.
Prof Glenn is one of the most enthusiastic professors you'll ever meet! He loovvesss literature and teaches it extremely well. Super easy class, no final or midterm and most quizzes are take home. Doesn't mind you giving in late assignments (but you do need to give in the assignments). He hates it when you forget to bring the material he asked for.
Only go to class if you have quizzes. Didn't have to take any notes and there is no textbook or exam. Lots of easy marks on quizzes and he's good with helping at office hours. Only negatives are that he talks way too much and his communication skills aren't the best so make sure you check the syllabus.
We received lots of 2 point quizzes but it was to make sure we read the material. Classes were always interesting and theres no need to purchase any textbooks because he provides what we have to read or makes us watch the film for the assignments. Great prof.
Great guy, super laid back, enthusiastic, and understanding. Literally the whole semester is just watching movies or watching presentations with the usual 2-point quiz, in which you only had to mention two things that happened in the reading he assigned. No midterm or final and the quizzes were all take home and for the most part easy.
a real gem
One of the best profs I have ever had, he is really nice and understanding. He knows so much about so many things, and he loves to talk. One of the smartest people I have ever met, while still being one of the most kind.
Very laid back and non structured, but in a good way. Almost entirely graded on 2 point quizzes on readings, a small group project, and a mini readers response. The lack of effort needed for his classes is astounding, you would basically have to try to fail
Professor Walton is my favorite teacher in SMU. His class is very interesting and he is very nice to students. He always want to help students and his quiz are fair. No stress in quiz. A easy marker in assignments. He makes me like English literature.I am Chinese and I really hate English before go to his class. Now, I really like English .
This class is a great choice. He cares for his students. If you do the readings your pretty much guaranteed an A. Horrible at answering emails though and contacting outside of class.
He is one of the best professor i have ever had in this university. loved all of his interesting lectures. He cares about his students mostly supportive to the international ones! If you want to learn something valuable take with him. He is also a fair grader go to him if you did not do well, he does his best to help you.
This course was stress free and the prof is pretty chill. Not a lot of work required. An easy A if you do the work.
Professor Walton is a good man. A very down to earth and approachable person. Gives good feedback and really wants his students to pass. Just take your time to follow his simple instructions read what he tells you and study and then you're on your way. Make sure to participate in conversations and also you'll have a good laugh with him as well.
He is an amazing ENGL prof. He gives amazing feedback. The best part about his class was there was neither mid nor final exam for this course. Participating in his class is very important, if you listen to his lecture in every class you will pass with a really good grade. I normally dont like ENGL but I loved his class and learnt a lot.
Extremely light and & easy course. Good prof? Absolutely not. Glenn Walton is a "my way or the highway" type of guy, so if you wish to give him feedback/suggestions on how to help you as a student, that's too bad. Makes racially insensitive comments, assuming what languages students can speak b/c on their "foreign" names. Doesn't listen to students
I have no idea why people complain about him. He's an amazing professor. I hated literature until taking his class. I actually looked forward to going to his class. He's different from other profs in the sense he truly appreciates art whether it's poetry, sculptures, etc. He also makes you value artwork and see things from a different perspective.
Professor Walton is great! I'm not a huge fan of Shakespeare or poetry but I found he had a very productive way of explaining it that kept me focused and helped me grasp a better understanding. He gives amazing feedback on where you went wrong and what you can fix and he is also very accessible outside of class!I would 100% recommend this prof!
Glenn is very sweet and he really wants the best for his students. He is a great communicator as he makes sure everyone understands what to do for each assignment. I experienced this course as an asynchronous class. So you have to put in the effort to watch his tapings for each class. I think it would have been better to have him in person!
He was great.Fair amount of reading but he goes into great details about the readings to help you better understand what you read. He loves when you participate and give your opinion. Do the work and get an easy A He is very caring and understanding. If you are looking for an introduction to literature class he is the prof you want.
Professor Walton is very kind and caring. He is straight forward about what he wants on tests and projects. He does guide the students hand a little too much for my liking. He is passionate about what he teaches. Very easy mark.
Prof Walton is an immensely enthusiastic and passionate teacher. His in-person classes are really fun. Take him if you can! You will have a decent amount of readings to do, it's important to do them cus otherwise you wouldn't know what's going on in class. That's also why attendance is important. You get what you put in.
Super easy english class with not a lot of reading, you watch more movies than anything! He basically tells you exactly what he wants for the take home quizzes and grades pretty easy. He sometimes doesn't reply to e-mails though and can for sure go on some unrelated tangents but they are usually interesting nonetheless
Glenn isn't the best with technology, so this being an online class isn't ideal. He can sometimes contradict earlier things he's said. But he's so understanding and incredibly helpful. He does his best to make the class entertaining.
Was not very understanding in certain situations. Lots of readings.
Never stops talking super rude and annoying.
Constantly interrupts people and never stops talking. Sitting through class was super hard because he was so annoying. Tests were pointless and made no sense. I don't recommend anyone take his classes.
Professor Walton is a very good professor! He brings an incredible amount of passion and energy to the course, so lectures are generally interesting. The course work was very doable, you are guaranteed a good grade if you do the readings! Also, yes he does interrupt during peoples presentations but he means no harm by it.
Great course, and fun professor! English is not my favorite subject but I enjoyed this class!
Pretty good prof. He talked a lot in lectures and there was a lot of reading. Sometimes there would be two quizzes in one week on the readings, but they didn't really ask specific details or analysis, they were moreso about general plot and weren't too difficult. Also had some take home quizzes which weren't too hard either.
No exam, grade based on weekly in-class and take home quizzes. Pretty easy grader
This guy has been such a narcist since the beginning of the term.He does not give clear criteria for homework and projects, his lectures often go overtime and he often talks over student presentation, essentially presenting the work for them.He can be funny at times & clearly passionate about literature. 65% of the grade was based on inclass quizes
There was a quiz almost at least once a week, He also talks at the speed of light and forgets what he is saying half the time, he says random things then gets mad at you if you laugh.
If you like to read and love rigid routine, this class is great. if you are like me and enjoy skipping as many as possible and hate reading, you will struggle deeply. That is not Professor Waltons fault, he gives oppertunity to make up assignments but you NEED to take initiative and see him in office hours
He's an interesting guy + passionate about what he teaches. He's a very fast talker and isn't the most patient person. 65% of your grade is made up of quizzes, usually based off of readings which are all provided on brightspace. DO THE READINGS. Impossible to pass the quizzes without them. Beware if his interruptions during your group presentation.
