nice guy explains material very clearly defiantley worth taking
This guy is the worst. Really thick accent so u cant understand half of what he says, tests are hard. useless professor
Straightforward, and easy. Gives 3 exams, but drops the lowest one and he also throws in some extra points in every exam.
took him over the summer. hes a good professor. i didn't really enjoy the class, but maybe that's just because i dont like economics.
Very hard class!! Professor Rawlins knows what he's talking about...too bad you can't comprehend any of it. Microeconomics is hard enough as it is...I felt he made it just a little more harder. In fairness, his grading is not as strict as others!!
Nice guy. Very knowlegable of subject matter. No homework. Doesn't take attendance. 3 mult choice exams w/ bonus points-lowest grade is dropped, plus a final exam. Material isn't bad as long as u do what he says-read the text and do the study guide
Know what he's doing, but he's a difficult grader.
Probably the best class I took at MSU! Didn't like Macro and Micro but ended up liking this class. Economics is a quite complicated subject but he made it fun. And he grades well on the presentations too!
First of all you are forced to do a group presentation. The main focus of the classs is on this. so don't expect to learn about international econ. you will only be stressed out about doing a presentation in front of the class. and get this, your grade is hurt if you are nervous. I do not approve!
His lectures are perfectly clear, and he gives points on every tests. He is very professional, wants you to do your reading and studying and apply to the clas and test. I learned a whole lot more from him that my macro professor. He is really good
Very boring.
He is really a good professor. Micro is boring and he tries to keep you intrested. He has 3 tests and a final. Read the chapters and go over the study guide it really helps. He has extra credit on all his tests. He answers all questions and really tries to help his students.
Knows what he's talking about, but can't bring it down to "student understanding level". Little hard to understand and read his writing. Tests are pretty easy.
If you have to take micro, he is probably one of the better teachers for it. He makes it very clear, and there is not much work outside of class. Your grade, however, depends almost solely on 4 tests (3 + Final). Material is straightfoward, and there's a CD to help you out. Not a bad teacher.
Horrible teacher that is very hard to understand. Has an accent and talks to you as if you are an expert in economics. Worst class ever do not take this guy. He is not approachable and does not care about anyone in the class as long as he shows up to teach.
Hard tests!! Doesnt know how to bring it down to undergrad student level.
UGHH!! I had an awesome GPA until I took this class and worked my ass off and STILL got a bad grade. Trust me..unless you want to RUIN your GPA..dont take this guy. You cant understand him and he seems to think the material is SOOO easy.
This guy is the worst..Be smart and take someone else he will ruin your semester I promise you
The worst ever...doesnt know how to teach, unclear, not helpful and doesnt know how to grade...DO NOT take him unless you want to fail...trust me because of him I couldnt graduate..
Brace yourself for the hardest, most boring and pointless class ever. This guy makes mistakes while drawing same graphs for last 50 years. EXTREMELY hard tests, NO CURVE. 1 hr. present, followed by 1 hour INTERROGATION. It's easier to skip the class and learn at home than take the tests, otherwise he will confuse you. I got an B+, try to beat it
This is the worst teacher in the world. He talks so much junk and doesn't really teach what we need to know. I was doing great until the exam came and I failed. All he does is doddle on the board and then his exams are nothing but worded and none of the 1000 charts that he presented to us. Don't ruin your GPA take another teacher.
what a hottie, don't take this class
this is the worst professor in msu, actually probably in all of college life. he might know his material, but is a horrible teacher. he talks about useless graphs and makes up unreal situations- NOTHING that really does with his tests or econ at that. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE, this guy SUCKS
not sure what everyone is complaining about, he knows his stuff and does his best to teach it. i'd take him again. no homework - keep up on the reading, pay attention in class and tests are a breeze.
NICE OLD MAN. PEOPLE ARE BEING VERY HARD ON HIM, THEY PROBABLY DO NOT STUDY AT ALL. IF YOU STUDY FOR THE TESTS(HE GIVES EXTRA CREDIT) AND SHOW UP EVERY CLASS(6 BONUS POINTS ON FINAL GRADE) HIS CLASS IS AN EASY A.
very helpful professor - offers office hours and answers any question you have. takes time explaining things. microecon is not that hard and he shows that. with a little studying and prep for tests, you'll do fine. no homework. good professor.
Very hard to understand. He lost my final and i had to chase him down into the next year just for it to get corrected, and this is just a sign of how overall unhelpful he is. I recommend that all my friends do not take him and I recommend the same to you
i am still taking this class now and hope i will pass this one, i had very dificult time to understand this course but seems easy when there is a good tutor. if i have some back round about economie then thing will be much better since this professor assuming that every body are graduate students, he should not teach undergraduate at all.
great professor, teaches very clearli gives a whole alotta extra credit making it impossible 2 fail.. didnt open book 1ce and gotta A..gives practice ?z before examz.. VERY INTERESTING GUY
Brilliant guy,but expects you to be just as brilliant.Shouldn't teach undergrad. He curves a lot so you cant get a bad grade unless you try.book is useless and hes very demanding but if you study a LOT and show up to every class you can get a A/B.
Very boring professor not good class and always. confusion. He never accept that he is teaching so fast and do not like questions, what you have to do is just listen him and move on with his drawing scale that does not make sense at all unless you are already have some back round in economie, find a better one than him if it is possible for you
good teacher but boring and requires a lot of reading and tests are hard
Great Professor. This man is very intelligent and knows the subject matter he is teaching very well. If you want to learn, take this man's class. His tests are tough, but he gives a unique curve that makes it all fair. He offers some great incentives that turn into valuable bonus points. If you are in college to be educated, take his class.
I'm taking him for Micro and he's a nice teacher sofar. If you do as he suggests--read the chapter, do the study guides, etc you'll be fine. No HW, except to read the chapter, and he does take attendance. I have no problems with him, I'd take him again. Also, take Macro first, then Micro is easier!!
I took his class last year, and it was the worst class ever. My friend and I both did poorly, because he is not helpful. He may know a lot about Economics, but as a professor, he was horrible. He talks about everything except the subject, and he is hard to comprehend. Don't take his class if you actually want to learn something, and want to do well
HORRIBLE CLASS!!!!!!!!!idk y i took it......he just rambles on n on....n u just sit there tryin 2 get all he is sayin...takin macro first cuz it will prob help....idk how 2 relate 2 his stuff n the test....they are hard...i dont like him as a teacher which is y i dropped out...forget that nonsense
hard teacher. very knowledgable, but his tests are extremely hard. 2 tests and 1 final. 1 term paper. No homework, just read chapters. Good guy, knows alot, but hard to comprehend because the topics he teaches are very dry and boring, and he doesn't help that or do a good job of relating any of it to real life.
He is a very knowledgeable professor. He does tend to digress a bit but once he gets going he's good. Show up to every class and hand in term paper early & you will get extra points. Take Macro first &that will help. He also gives very helpful test quest every class. Pay attention, study hard &laugh at his jokes & u will get A.
MICRO: knows what he is teaching. Although he has a slight accent, that does not affect your learning during class. 3 tests which i did well on because i took notes and studied. there's no way to pass econ without notes/studying sorry. one 2000 word paper. passes out questions every class to study from. take him if you are a bus. major.
Overall he is a great professor, granted I come from an economics background so i find the material easy. Make sure you READ all of the material and take good notes
One of the best professors
Tough professor, two 60 question multiable choice tests and 1, 2000 word paper due. Strict requirments.
No midterm in this class, the man will keep repeating himself just to talk. Two exams and a final, teaches a lesson after each exam and expects you to stay till hes done. Plan on staying past your scheduled time sessions. If you want to learn anything about Economics, don't take his class.
This class is not for slackers. Most of his notes taken are from his lectures. Textbook was hardly used in class, but is needed for self study if you want to do well. The class is very boring and proper note taking is a must! If you are serious about doing well then you shouldn't have a problem....if you don't really try, then expect to fail.
This professor was by far the worst Economics professor i have ever taken!..Im not just saying that because i did bad, because frankly i did pretty good in his class..but I never had to pushh soo hard for a class that isnt even worth the effort!..Rawlings was a terrible professor..made everything more complicated than it really was!..dont take him!
Rawlins is ridiculously hard to understand (accent, vocab), moves quickly and is hard to keep up with and tends to explain things for hours. Would not recommend.
I took his class my 1st semester of freshman year, so i was really lazy &didn't study well for tests. He actually gave me a D, but i failed everything except for the 2000 word paper (i got a B+)&He gives extra points for going to every class. Class was fun, he would create real life examples for the things we learn in class. Take if you're not lazy
BEWARE. worst teacher in history of college professors. Terrible man. Heartless. Has no soul. Mockery of teaching profession. 2 impossible tests and one paper. Not approachable. DO NOT RECOMMEND. He is the meanest, harshest person I have ever encountered. Was scared to answers ?'s b/c he ridiculed me nonstop, even when i had the right answer!
He means well but if your like me and do not like micro economics do not take him. He is really hard to understand and his tests are impossible. I would study for hours and still do poorly. Make sure you go to every class because he gives you extra points at the end of the semester.
Not a bad teacher but you definitely have to be interested in economics to take his class. He assigns reading every class, which if you don't do you'll be lost the whole semester. He goes through the material really quick. Test are average just as long as you fully understand the material just because the majority of the questions are hypothetical.
Best Economics professor! very hard tests and 14 page paper...before that class i had no clue in economics, and received C in macro...in this class i got A- because i listened very carefully to him..i didn't even read the book...all the test questions are based on notes, so be sure to write everything down
He explains all the material in a clear and cohesive manner. But: he does not use the blackboard, nor email. If you are a night student there is no way of getting in touch with him other than the class meeting. I think that's unacceptable.
Good professor. He challenges you to think for yourself and research your answers. His tests are challenging but if you do the exercises in the workbook, you'll do well. He graded my paper fairly, he could see I put in the work.
He's funny and his lectures are very clear and helpful. Although, he isn't much help outside of class time. If you do the reading and the practice quizes in the book you should be fine.
worst teacher yet at Montclair. This guy will not answer any questions outside of class time, VERY strict grader, and always keeps you after class ends to tell you stories of his past. His exams are ridiculously difficult and if you do poorly on one, you're going to get a C at best. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO
this guy was one of my first professors i ever had, but he is a great guy. His class is very fun to be in, he cracks jokes, and is a very nice man. He is very knowledgeable, and if you answer his questions and makes lectures so easy to understand. He loves when his students are involved in the class and answers questions and asks a lot of questions
professor rawlins means well but is a very difficult teacher. micro economics is not a fun class and he only gives 3 tests then a paper... your only chance to get a good grade
I thought this was a great class. I definitely learned a lot. You need the book. Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass. You have to take good notes and read the chapters before hand. The questions in the study guide are a HUGE help because it's similar to the test. The paper is long but easy. I got an A.
NOT a nice guy and very tough to understand. The exams were hard. He does give a little bit of extra credit because the tests are so hard. I did not learn much. Attendance is mandatory and the report is extremely long and a large percentage of your grade. Don't take this professor.
Awful teacher, does not cover material that is on the tests. Do not take this guy unless you HAVE to
difficult class, turned out to be boring and highly do not recommend, take this class unless you have to. This was an INBS 370 & ECON 402 combined.
Bad professor, he is very unhelpful, boring & depends on his powerpoints too much. Strongly do not recommend, take the class unless you HAVE too.
Gives Extra credit if you go to every class, Few quizzes/tests One Paper 2000 words, About a company of your choosing, Give some effort and you'll be fine, Slight Accent (He is from St. Kitts). Gets off on a lot of tangents, but they are interesting. Easy Grader
Horrible professor. Makes tests extremely hard to pass. Unless you've taken econ before, you won't have any idea what's going on.
I took this class last semester, and it was the most confusing class I have taken. He is not exactly clear about what he is teaching, and his tests are very difficult. I would not recommend him as a professor, but he is a very kind person
He has a thick accent and is very unclear. Do not take this class unless you must. The course is graded on 3 exams. This class is very tough and you most likely will not do well.
Having never taken an Economics course before, this course only left me more confused. Professor Rawlins is very unclear and scattered when it comes to his lectures. YOU MUST ATTEND CLASS. The course is based off of 3 impossible tests with material he doesn't touch upon. If you have the option, don't take this course, for the sake of your GPA.
I don't understand why people are complaining. If you pay attention in class, do the Connect homework and do the reading you should get at least a B. Yes there are only three tests but they are not difficult if you study for them. There is plenty of opportunities for extra credit. I recommend this professor; I have learned a lot so far.
For those who are willing to put in the effort, DON'T BELIEVE THE RATING. The guy is a little tough and his tests are a little difficult, but if you really pay attention and study a little, you do well and learn a lot . His lectures are ON POINT and very conceptual. He gives 110100 on tests, +5% final grade for full attendance. Not much accent btw
Cutest little guy, keeps class interesting with funny examples. Gives extra credit, only 2 exams, one extra bonus exam. Nice guy, just study for those exams and you'll do good. Don't need book if you take good notes
Very confusing. Can not complete a thought without drifting off to another one. Gets mad if you even breath to loud. Good luck.
He sucks. Worst professor ever. Cant understand accent. "By the way" said too much. Confusing. I think you get the message.
I am a good student and have gotten nothing but A's at MSU... until this course. I found it impossible to follow along, let alone stay awake because his lectures are so boring and completely uninspired. He is a nice enough guy, but I would not recommend taking him unless you already have a strong finance and econ background.
Had him for microeconomics and he made it much more difficult. Very unclear with his lectures and it was very confusing. He goes off topic a lot and backtracks which makes things harder to understand. He'll also often say something and say "oh by the way, I was wrong" the day after he taught it. Also unclear with due dates.
You must pay close attention in lecture. If not you will fail. The class is not easy but attending every class and taking good notes will pay off. Gives 6 absences but +5% if you make every class. He knows his stuff like the back of his hand, also is lowkey funny. I would take again, if you want to be lazy and expect a good grade this is not for u.
Stuck up professor, sits down the whole class and lectures from his seat, no excitement in his tone. We get it, he is very knowledgable but condescending when asking questions. TOUGH grader.
He's a very nice guy, knows his stuff very well. If you have no outside knowledge of economics I do not recommend this teacher. However if you put in the work and read the chapters before going into class, you will get a lot out of the class. Pay very close attention to his lectures.
Rawlins is one of the worst professors at Montclair State University. He is not a good teacher by any means. He is very unclear when teaching the lectures and goes off topic A LOT. His voice is monotoned so it is very difficult to pay attention. The tests are very hard, almost impossible to pass. He rushes students out of his office hours.
Nice teacher, but the class can get boring.
he is a very nice man and he knows economics in and out. he has like 30 years of experience but you will need to ask questions. my class barely interacted with him and he expressed his feelings about that on the last day. participate and class will be fun. as for the tests, you get 3 and you are pretty much on your own when it comes to studying.
Honestly, he is not the greatest professor ever. Read the FAQ's, he said. They'll "answer" all your questions. Speak loud. He can't hear. Just do yourself a favor, and don't take this course.
WORST PROFESSOR AT MSU. GIVES OUT D's LIKE IT'S NOTHING AND COMPLETELY RUINS YOUR GPA AND GETS YOU KICKED OUT OF YOUR MAJOR. DO NOT TAKE HIM. WISH I COULD RATE HIM A 0.
He speaks fast and never stops. He reads off some powerpoints, he does worksheets in class but they dont really help you with exams. The homeworks are much harder than the exams.
Do yourself a favor and do not take him. He is very knowledgeable but also very condescending if you ask him a question. Micro is hard enough but taking it with him was a lot harder. I worked really really hard for my grade but it wasn't worth it for the awful experience I had.
HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR FOR ECONOMICS EVER. DO NOT SHOW UP TO CLASS EARLY BECAUSE HE WILL START AND HE DOESNT CARE. THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN POSSIBLY PASS IS IF YOU GET PASSING GRADES ON THE CONNECT HOMEWORK (WHICH YOU SHOULD LOOK UP EVERY ANSWER ONLINE). THE EXAMS ARE DIFFICULT... GIVES EXTRA CREDIT IF YOU SHOW UP TO EVERY CLASS. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
This microeconomics course is pretty difficult if this is your first ever economics class. Rawlins is extremely boring and I never pay attention during ANY lectures. If you start studying at least the day before the exams YOU MUST WATCH ACDC Mr. Clifford videos, he will save your life. As long as you watch the videos and study you will pass.
Lectures are very difficult to follow. He uses PowerPoint but only adds a Title and leaves the slide blank. When teaching he often goes on tangents that don't relate to the topic and just confuse you. You have to read the textbook or you won't understand anything, you basically have to teach yourself the class. He gives extra credit on tests.
Here's the deal. Professor Rawlins is not a hard grader it's his test that are hard. The course has 3 tests, 2 midterms 1 final. The test are all multiple choice. You need to study outside of class. You need to participate and focus in class to understand. He has an accent and writes on the board. PUT IN THE WORK AND YOU WILL GET A B+!
He will keep you the full time EVERY night. Lectures are very long and boring but informative if you can follow material. VERY hard to catch up if you miss class. Your entire grade is compromised of 3 tests, 20 percent HW&quizzes. Very nice guy as a professor decent. All tests curved due to lack of high grades. Take at your own risk.
His class is VERY hard. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! His lectures are very boring and he goes off topic, A LOT. There's 2 tests (and a final) which are 50 questions and it's extremely hard. Most students fail the tests and only a few people actually pass them. He hardly does any sort of review before tests. He's not the best professor for economics.
DONT TAKE W/ THIS PROFESSOR. First of all, he is very boring and the way he teaches makes absolutely no sense and is VERY difficult to understand. He doesnt understand how to use computers and his emails are beyond confusing. When I emailed him about a personal issue he called me Dishonest and joked about how he was going to fail me. Bad guy.
Currently taking this course is the WORST class Ive ever taken in my life. I looked up his rating prior to registering & didnt think it would be this bad BUT IT IS. He is not a teacher at all and designs his tests to trick you aka MAKE YOU FAIL! I really think its time for this guy to retire & let someone else whos more capable teach the class
The most difficult topic I've studied but he grades with generosity. Must read and study in order to pass.
The worst professor in the region, he needs to hang it up and I hope he sees this.
Good luck if you're taking this class.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! He grades harshly but doesn't teach ANYTHING. You will get told to only read and do the work, which is fine. The problem comes from him expecting perfectly thought out discussion posts when he only provides the reading and the book-created powerpoints. He only emails to let the class know how bad everyone does on posts.
Worst professor at MSU. im taking him right now and hate his guts. IDK how this guy is a professor. He is a joke. u want to pass take another professor. He has no life and wishes he will make more than me when I graduate. I wonder if he knows what its like living in Alpine NJ because I do and its perfect. This guy is an absolute joke.
He is very bad, he does not grade fairly at all, and he does not allow you to see past quizzes/homework/exams or go over them with him for review. Save yourself, don't take him.
Do not take this professor. He is incredibly rude and wants everything his way. He does not responde to emails and will not be clear about what he wants us to do on assignments, tests, and even discussions I almost failed because of him. He is terrible. Trust me it actually makes me regret transferring to MSU.
You have to master topics by practicing quizzes he gives to be prepared for a test. I studied for so long because he gives a lock down browser in class & you can't go back to any of the 45 questions. There is a 1 hour time limit, it starts & ends at a specific time & he talks too much when the test already started so it is distracting.
Just good luck to anyone who takes him.
just dont
He's very poor at communicating. Towards the end of the semester we switched to online. Has an accent, hard to understand. I had to seek help from another professor and he basically retaught me everything. I do not recommend this professor to anyone who struggles with math or economics. Definitely for people who are advanced in Econ.
If you are put into one of his classes leave immediately. There is only 3 quizzes for the whole semester and a couple of online assignments and that is it. Very lecture heavy Professor who can't really speak and is impossible to fully understand. Make sure that you read everything and do everything because if you don't you are going to be screwed.
Difficult course! I passed bc I retaught myself the material using Jacob Clifford's microeconomics videos on YouTube. You have to buy the online text, that's where the quizzes and homeworks are. You have to pay attention, but it is hard to follow because of his accent. If you can't study on your own, don't take him. Little extra credit available.
