This is a very, very interesting class. She makes what I thought would be a boring class, very fascinating. Tests are hard but she is fair, and doesn't put anything on the test that she hasn't gone over in class.
Since she's relatively new, she isn't jaded or anything yet. Concerned about students, etc. She is pretty (why no hot votes here?), but someone needs to tell her to please not pluck eyebrows. I don't know why you women do that, makes me cringe.
She was a great teacher. She put up with people handing in horribly prepared documents but she made you think and do the work.
good teacher who is very intelligent. i would recomend taking her. Just dont let her brainwash you when she goes off topic and starts bashing all republicans. she has a very biased teaching style and absolutely despises Bush.
This teacher is very good keeps you interested. Not to many assaingments and not difficult assaingments. She is clear and understanging and VERY HOT!!!

Presented current conspiracy theories as true events. Was late a few times. Really loud sometimes. If you want to keep a strong gpa avoid this class please.

She's really good at her subject. Though she talks really loud as if she's yelling and will basically make you feel stupid if you ask stupid questions. She looks hot but damn her arms are so damn ripped!! anyways i took her 4 week poli sci class and got an A so as long as you keep up with the work your fine.

Thought she would be a good teacher but when she barely lectured and expected you to complete a 2 part mid-term on things she hadn't covered, you got some problems. Was late on a continuous basis and canceled class more than twice. Oh, and she does make you feel stupid if you don't know every aspect of the question your asking. So, be prepared!
She was late on a regular basis, occasionally her cell phone does go off. Al though she is a bit loud, its more passion than anything for her course. As long as you do the work, and give a good effort, you will pass.
Passionate about her politics. Bangs on the whiteboard. Easy A if you read the books and write the essays. Don't expect lecture to relace reading the book.
Take her 4-week telecourse if it's your ONLY class for the 4-week session. I honestly didn't get much out of the class, but I would recommend her.
No way should you take this class!! I took her 9 week telecourse class and she was terrible! One of the worst teachers in the field. She doesn't care about her students. Tests are on things she doesn't even cover and the final was a joke. Lots of hard busy work. This class will definitely mess up your perfect GPA as it did mine. PS. NOT HOT AT ALL!

Professor is very passionate about politics and keeps the class interesting. Not too much reading, not a lot of homework. One research paper. Final was take home, but not a guarantee take home for every semester. Loved the class!
Be prepared to read a lot and teach yourself. In the end, it's your responsibility to do the work and if you do, you will succeed and get an A. Great teacher. She should of been a lawyer. She'd scare the jury into leaning her way!
Flaming liberal. This teacher does not teach objectively and she rants for 40 minutes and teaches for 20. If you do the work you get an A. If you do not agree with her she will try to riddicule you. Very passionate. Likes to yell.
True Poly Class, LOVE HER!!! this is not a high school course thnk god. I am not a school person, but this is real politics, from a person that puts it loud and clear, making you trully OPEN your eyes, not a class for slackers, this class will really help you communicate and socialize in the Real World,inspire and motivate you to be more involved!
I took the 9 week class, it was perfect amount of time for a poli sci class... Only meet once a week, you have a 5 pg paper, midterm ,final ,& jouranals due. Just stick to it turn in work, and you will pass. You will need the book, its expensive!!!
CRAZY WOMAN! but you gotta love her. she knows what shes talking about, althought she is an EXTREME LIBERAL/DEMOCRAT she will try to shove her beliefs down your throat, even tho she says she doesnt she does and is VERY BIASED. will put you on the spot if you disagree with her but overall you do learn alot and she is VERY PASSIONATE about politics
Loved her! She's passionate about politics and actually cares about what's going on in the world. Just do the work and you'll pass. Easy class and interesting as well. Does like to yell, but maybe that's because she wants you to pay attention, can't blame her for that! :)

Truly inspirational,to the point, assertive and honest. One of the best teachers I have had.She has her own views on politics such as everyone but wants the student to see it for what it is and how it plays a part of our everyday life. I can truly say that this class makes you think more then just about yourself, she is a respected professor.
This teacher is just heartless and wants students to fail shes politically evil but she knows her stuff have to admit that.She likes to yell and she will throw in random assignments because shes evil.

This teacher knows a lot about politics however, I totally dislikes her teaching style. Midterm test includes writing a paper in class 1 hour long, then 50 multiple choice questions afterwards, No fun. Lot of reading, makes you loose interest in school, not for slow learners. Lot of students drop the class midway, she need to make things simple
GREAT teacher. Class is based on midterm, paper, and a take home final. Rare that you have homework. Lets you use a cheat sheet for the midterm which helps many students! Easy A if you do the work! TAKE HER!
I am seriously considering a minor in PolySci after taking her. Learned so much and she is the most interesting teacher I've ever taken.I have to laugh at the people who expect a free ride. If you want a free ride, work at Wall-Mart, continue with your mediocrity, and stop soaking up valuable space in our colleges. Hands down, incredible class!!!!!
The only word i can use to describe Ms.Guevara is fiesty. She was very intimidating. But i loved her. She's very passionate about what she teaches. I wish more teaches were as exciting was she was.
Gloria Guevara is an excellent instructor. She is fair, helpful and passionate about Political Science. She will require a lot of work, but you will have a good understanding of the subject when you are done with the course. I will never see politics in the USA the same way again. It was a pleasure having such a knowledgeable instructor.
Completely subjective grading on papers w/ no constructive feedback. Online quizzes do not permit review. I don't mind doing the work, but so many detailed, time-consuming assignments,no time 2 absorb material. Watch 4 flat out wrong/misleading answers on quizzes!!! Print tests before submitting them 4 review! Hated the way this class was taught!!
All this stuff makes her sound strict, but you will see that Dr. Guevara truly cares for your success, not in just this class, but future classes, & especially if you?re transferring to a university-she also teaches @ CSUN. She knows her stuff up & down & IS OPEN to your questions & comments, so don?t fear asking anything. Highly recommended.
Fair warning: GET THE BOOK! You will need it for all assignments, especially papers-main source she wants you to cite from; doesn?t allow outside sources. AND most of her lectures don?t cover EVERYthing in the book. AND she even suggested that she would start to mark you absent if you don?t have your book. You have been warned.
By the way, each of those makes up 30% of grade-90% total-an incentive to do them. In addition, she posts videos & articles in the Course Studio on myvcccd, & as part of the participation grade (10%), wants you to respond on the message board. She does check periodically who does & doesn?t reply, plus your opinion is open-no known limitations.
(cont) & a take-home final of 2 (out of 3) essays on the branches of gov?t. Don?t procrastinate on these assignments-they DO take time & effort. I?ve had to stay up most of the night (before day it?s due) to finish the essays. By the way, she makes them simple-she asks specific questions in her papers, essentially outlining paper for you.
I do NOT recommend this class for those looking for an easy ride-you WILL fail, & she WILL drop you if you have too many absences or fail on an assignment-more admin imposing on professors than her regarding fail rate in classes. I agree w/past reviews that Dr. Guevara is feisty, but I recommend taking her because that feistiness is because she is very passionate about the subject. AND I absolutely recommend it for those of you who feel disheartened about politics & gov?t appearing to go down the toilet-I was one of those people, & her class opened my eyes about it all.
Dr.Guevarais the hottest teacher I have ever seen. She is so sexy that I cant concentrate on learning. However, she is passionate, competent and knowledgable in her field. In this class you have to work for your grade...so do it. She's a great teacher!!!!
This professor is opinionated to the point of disgrace. She puts influence where she should not & apparently likes drama just as much as any immature student. People such as this should not teach, but be taught. If you want a clean, valuable lesson I suggest you look somewhere else. Never had I met someone who made me resent my own major before...

Her fast pace course made me wanna drop but i stayed & end up passing it. Her class is hard work & time consuming, theres a lot of reading to do plus watching videos & assignments besides quizzes & tests! Online Class: 16 quizzes, 1 Midterm 50 MC based on previous quizzes, Final: Cumulative 50 MC questions. 3-Papers atleast 5 pages each. 10 discussion topics must respond to all. The class is based on the textbook, must read, pay attention to details. Professor is strict about deadlines. Must watch 10 documentaries and stay on top of current topics.
Dont take this class if u r not ready to write. she makes u take a mid term in class essay. i wrote in all pages of the blue book!!! both sides. then a research paper i did 9 pages. Then a final which u take home i did 9 pages also. Those r the big points. Take her if u want to work hard, i got an A.
Lots and lots of work. If you want to learn good quality material and really keep something with you to the next level take her class. If you just want to take her class because of the requirement stop there and think twice. Lots and lots of work I say.
Don't expect an easy A. I received an A, however worked hard for it. Work goes in spirts, one week you will have nothing, the next 4 quizzes and an essay.
Great teacher! This is an online course,like with any online course,you have to work for it. The assignments are consistent,and fair. I found her d2l page to be very easy to navigate and clear, as well as her paper assignments. She responds very quickly to email. Pay attention, and read everything she posts, and you will do well. Highly Recommend!
I was never interested in Politics before I took her course. In fact I hated them. She is a very hard teacher, but that's because she wants you to learn. At first I was overwhelmed by the amount of work, but if you really organize yourself and take your time (I started essays 1-2 weeks in advanced) than you will pass. I did with an A!
Dr G. basically holds your hand with the essays! She tells us exactly what she expects and gives us breakdown. READ THE BOOK. It is very helpful. I needed to do plenty of outside research to get a grasp of some of the topics, especially Parliament. She makes herself very available for clarification, take advantage!
Very informative lectures, she makes sense of a lot of things in terms that are easy to understand. And she's got a fun sense of humor.
Passed the class with an A, but it takes work to get that grade. There are 3 papers that have to be a minimum of 5 pages each, there are quizzes that are multiple choice that can be somewhat challenging, and there are a lot of movies and videos that must be discussed about. Have good time management skills and you should be fine.
This professor will not respond to your emails, even though she says that she responds within 2 days! I needed some clarifying on a few assignments and weeks went by without her responding to a few of my emails. After submitting my midterm paper late, because of lack of responding to my emails, she penalized me for turning in a late assignment. ugh

Super easy online class. All I had to do was read the book and take a 25 question quiz for each chapter. There are about 20 discussion topics throughout the course. Bad part was that she would sometimes move due dates around without notifying, quizzes were tough, and chapters in the book take about 3 hours to read.
I took a hybrid course with this teacher and while she did let everyone know it would be a lot of work packed into half a semester I found it was my speed. The course is great and her lectures are amazing. Professor Guevara outlines every essay perfectly never leaving people in the dark.
I had 19 units and managed to earn a B in her class. I was disappointed b/c I wanted a 4.0. Her class was very demanding, although, I worked hard to catch up to her speed. I think she is an exemplary political science teacher and one may learn the value of hard work through this class.

Be prepared to work extremely hard for an A. In her 4 week online Intro to POLYSCI class you have to take over a dozen quizzes, write 2 large essay papers, and respond to over a dozen discussion questions with corresponding documentaries. The class is also DIY (no lectures/feedback). If you don't have excellent time management skills, don't do it.
DR. Guevara is a great Professor. Her class POLS (R101), was not difficult, but confusing. I obtained a (B), but I read the entire book and did all the work. I do recommend this professor, unless you are one of those lazy students that do not like doing a lot of work. Moreover, she is kind of rude with students and she does not give any chances.
Took this as an online 4 week summer class. There is ALOT of videos to watch, the videos will get overwhelming, and a discussion is required after each one. 2 papers also based on videos and textbook. quizzes for each chapter, a midterm, and a final. quizzes can be taken twice and score is averaged. LOTS OF WORK for a summer online class.
Don't take her if you want an easy A. You will need to put many, many hours into reading + studying for multiple quizzes, watch multiple films, discussions and large papers. If you are determined and manage your time well, you will get that A! Overall Dr. Guevara provided great knowledge, but no doubt the most difficult class I've taken.
Dr. G, has a clear syllabus and abides by it. If your taking an online class be prepared to have a full course in 6 weeks or less. Two- five page papers (always start them before hand), quizzes and discussion questions. Time management is key to this course. Overall interesting class, would I take this professor? Yea, I guess so.
Took Dr. Guevaras course online over the summer, it was intense. It was alot of work, but I managed to keep up. I did have to read constantly, there were quizzes, but what I liked most were the documentaries she had the class watch and discuss. It really opened my eyes to the process of our government. Essays were a little tough.
This class was one of the toughest classes I took because there is a bunch of discussion posts and quizzes as well as three papers which were dense but I learned so much at the same time. She really makes you work for your grade and I only received a B because I started slacking off once finals came around.
(I took the online class) She was fine. She seemed like a reasonable teacher, however, she would wait last minute to post assignments. This became extremely frustrating since I would have to try to manage my time the best I can, but her timing threw me off many occasions. (Like our last paper she gave us only 4 days to do it.) Hard class.
Took several classes from Dr. G. - a tough grader who expects people to read & participate. The reading & participation are critical because, rather than just teach "concepts," she helps students learn how to incorporate those concepts to past & current political issues. If you can explain it well, you've learned it. (more in next post)
I love Professor Guevara. She is one of those few professors that really get into her lectures. She will require a lot of reading but she also give you study guides for the midterm & final and as long as you study those, you are golden! I learned so much in her class and I really enjoy her lectures because you can tell she is passionate about them
Amazing teacher! She cares for her students and wants everyone to pass, but also wants us to work hard for their grades. Usually she has 3 papers, but for my class we had 2 papers (midterm 40% & final 40%) and 20% was participation (attendance, online canvas work, quizzes, but quizzes aren't graded what matters is if you did them or not)
you have to work in this class in order to get a good grade, but it's definitely not a hard course. it may be a lot of work, but it's pretty straight forward. she uses canvas, so you'll need to take online quizzes every now & then, 3 term papers, and video discussions. do everything & watch the videos and you should get a good grade
I took the four week online class. Intense. There's at least 1 assignment due every day after the first week, Two papers, lots of quizzes & discussions. I recommend just doing all of the quizzes within the first 2 days, saves time and gets you prepped for discussions. For discussions and papers, answer her questions with examples and you're good.
Guevara is the worst professor. If you're looking to have your GPA lowered this is the professor to take! I was taking 4 classes, which I got all A's and a C from Guevara. She's extremely rude and careless. Her curriculum consists of watching a bunch of documentaries and writing papers that you relate back to the reading + a lot of quizzes.
Great Class! She's passionate about the subject! A lot of people say she's mean and horrible but you aren't going to be treated like a little kid at school; it's college for a reason. Her essays are essential and watch all the videos she asks you to watch. She'll help you if you ask nicely! No professor wants you to fail and she's no exception!
Currently in her online class, YIKES! She is a tough teacher. Many discussions on videos every week, many tests, which are HARD, and a few essays due around the beginning of the semester and end of semester. She wont ever give you 100% on your essay paper, I feel like the most shell give, regardless of your work, is 90. I wouldnt recommend.
Shes honestly not that bad in person, I wouldnt recommend online because its so much work. In person class very few assignments. 2 papers and only a couple quizzes because she didnt want to bother grading discussions. Shes very passionate about politics and can seem intimidating, but get on her good side and youre set. Dont text in class lol

Prof. Guevara an amazing instructor, take lectures when offers to teach! Class is Comparative Politics, this was an online course you will not get to witness her passion. Learn something, yes it was from the textbook author. WARNING: Last 2.5 weeks you'll get slammed w/ quizzes every night w/ 3 essay discussions 'n final, a very SAD option.

I joined this class hoping to get an in depth understanding of politics from an objective standpoint. This professor instead focused on indoctrinating us with their personal liberal beliefs on current events.
Had to take this class for gen. ed... honestly would not taker her. Attendance is mandatory but doesn't really teach much during them. Had quizzes for 6 chapters in the book with in the first week and then 3 papers during the semester. Get ready to read the book and teach yourself.
Her lectures aren't helpful at all, at times I would sit and wonder what if I just don't come to class and just do the homework she assigned instead. Her multiple choice exams are tough and don't correlate to the level that she teaches in her lectures. Don't take her class if you are aiming for straight As.
Professor Guevara isn't a bad professor, but I wish she was more organized and stuck to her schedule, rather than venturing off into conversations with some students. Although the conversations she has with the students are related to politics, they don't relate to her lectures, and make going to class useless since we don't learn much while there.
I do not recommend this teacher, first of all you can never get 100% on the 5 page essays she gives you for the midterms, and finals . If the essays have more than 20% compability in the Turn it in she will lower 20 points. Overall I got an 89.92 and got a B not an A , in addition her syllabus is about 3 years old and she has not updated it.
Do not recommend this teacher! One student from her class got a 77% she gave them a B, got an 89.68 I got a B very unfair! Do not take her she does not know what she does! She also doesnt like it when you tell her that she did something wrong! I would rate her a 0 if I could
I recommend you choose a different teacher! Not this one you can never revive an A
If you take this class expect to work for your grade! You must read each ch. for you to pass the quizzes with an A and to truly understand material to write midterm exam and final exam (5-6 pages minimum). The midterm and final are a lot of work and require you to truly know what you are talking about to get a C or B on them, an A is rare to see.
Very funny when talking about politics and also you got to pay very good attention when given the lecture also really good to answer questions but you got to be clear but lots of test and also heavy essays but try your best and you'll pass shes not mean shes fair but only if you work hard.
The online course has very little teacher involvement, there is no effort on her part. Basically she has you watch a movie and comment among ourselves the students. The quizzes are more of a history lesson than anything and expects you to type up two 5 page essays in the 4 week summer course. The discussions are from old semesters.
The class mostly consists of her own lectures with slight references to the textbook however she does expect you to read the textbook on your own (not necessary since all the quiz answers are online, but you will need to cite the text in the mid-term and final essays as well as the in-class videos). Essay heavy, so if thats not your thing... yeet
If your thinking of taking this class for summer I say just take it with another professor. By day 12 of being in the class I have already submitted 24 assignments. Quizzes, reading responses and 5-6 page paper. We literally have quizzes and reading responses every single day. I recommend taking this class at another college with different teacher.
You need to read the textbook and fully understand the information. You'll need to read lectures, articles and watch long films. Their is an assignment everyday and sometimes quizzes on the same day. The professor won't post grades until the end of the week after you've submitted all work due. Her feedback is useless. No chance of an A.
I would not take her over summer!! as some of my peers have said, its a lot of work and little time to do it all. Pretty tough grader too, few room to get an A. Glad I'm not the only one feeling like this over her summer course.
If you want to sit in front of your computer for hours and not have a life outside of this online class, then by all means take this course. Ive taken several online classes and this one has by far been the hardest Ive ever had. Im taking another summer class so I had to drop this one. Too many discussions and quizzes on every chapter. Insane.
I am taking the Online summer course so its supposed to be accelerated but its a lot more than I expected. The teacher is hardly involved and gives very little feedback on essays and discussion grades. There is no late assignments or quizzes accepted. In order to keep up you have to login and do a quiz or an assignment every day .
Summer class: It was a lot of work, but its not impossible to get an A. You just need to figure out the best technique for yourself. I did all the quizzes first & then I would watch the documentaries & do the discussion posts. Honestly it was an easy class if you stick to a schedule & get the work done. There were 2 essays, one 5 pages & one 7.
Wow, super UPSETTING because I was excited to take this course. I felt I gave my all and devoted way more time with this course than my other two summer classes. Had to email to check the grading rubric bc no matter how hard you try you just dont get an A even if abiding by all reqs. As on all tests, still received a C which dropped my 3.0. Worst

Not easy to get in contact with, does not offer any type of help. quizzes and tests ambiguous-almost like she wants you to fail. feedback is vague, rubrics? nonexistent. shows extreme lack of genuineness. put my all into every assignment, still no useful feedback. received mediocre grades for hard work. do not recommend AT ALL!!
Dr. Guevara is a good professor who is really passonite about her subject (pols). However, if you don't already have a decent understanding of pols, this class will be challenging. She is very clear on informing students that hardly anyone passes her multiple choice portion of her midterm. Attendence is also mandarorty (your participation grade).
She was nice but shes very passionate about her work. Midterm was really hard and she will even tell you that. Final and midterm will be a big part of grade. Do her readings Dont be fooled quizlet will not help you in her tests. My grade dropped by 4 points because of the final. Overall I liked her class but you have to put in a lot of work. :/
The questions on her quizzes are not based on the lectures that she gave. Which is unfair and should be reported to the school.
Beware of her lectures, you can't find any questions on her quizzes based on it. All of the questions on her quizzes are copied from other websites, which means she's very lazy to create her own, and the students are the one suffering for it. This professor is HORRIBLE. Enroll with other profs or at VC or MC. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Guevara, Is one of the most enthusiastic massively intelligent grabbing full attention with positive effort to learn and stay focused. You look forward to class and the time flys by fast. She is available for questions and interacts with the class reassuring us that we will grasp any topic. She motivates us and in turn we succeed!!!
You will need to use the book a lot. You will be REQUIRED to watch highly graphic material, so if you are the slightest bit squeamish, do not take this class. Grading criteria and expectations are poorly stated, and feedback is minimal to nonexistent. Don't bother putting in much work in the discussions, her grading of them is completely arbitrary.
Promotes netiquette but DOES NOT know that capitalized letters/ upper case means yelling. Her entire syllabus and announcement looks like that and sounds rude. The other review is NOT TRUE. She does not assist her students at all, she just assigns pages and movies and that's it.
I was excited to take her summer course & knew it was going to be fast paced but didnt think it would be this awful. Assigns multiple discussions & quizzes EVERY DAY without any breaks. Provides no accommodation to her students considering the fact that were in the middle of a pandemic and students have limited resources. 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
I was excited to take this class and learn from the professor but she didn't go over anything. She assigned reading, uploaded videos, discussions and quizzes which were due every day. She is a tough grader! I would have liked if she took initiative to schedule a Zoom meeting to go over material, but it didn't happen.
Gives a lot of work. I took the 6 week class and there was 2 5-6 pg papers included with quizes, midterm, final and MANY discussions that needed citations from readings and hour long videos. You do however learn a lot so if POLS is your thing then you will love it.
I took this class in the summer, which meant it was accelerated. It is a very fast-paced class and assignments were assigned and due basically every day. Though I know I could have put in more effort to get a better grade, I liked her class. I learned a lot about politics and am now aware of the inner-workings of government and its influences.
Do not take. Do not take. Honestly one of my least favorite professors ever. I feel like she doesn't read anything you write, and gives you low grades. Doesn't really teach, just has you read the textbook. SO many discussion posts it's very annoying, you can type an in depth long post and she'll give you a low grade. Would not recommend.
Her class consists of multiple quizzes from the textbook, documentary discussions, and 50 hard multiply choice and paper essays for both the midterm and final. She is a really tough grader which makes getting a high 90 difficult. Be prepared to read a lot and spend your time on each assignment she assigns. I recommend taking this class at Ventura.
If you plan on taking Dr. Guevara's online POLS R101 class, be prepared to read and write, a lot. Her class is extremely challenging. If you receive an A its earned not given here. Get familiar with citing sources as she checks all your work for plagiarism and credibility. If your goal is a tough and strict university level professor, welcome.
I would not recommend Mrs. Guevara as she does not give much feedback, causing confusion as to what is required of you. I found it difficult to maintain a good grade as I felt that everything I did result in bad grades. Her quiz questions made little sense at times, and the discussions were especially tasking as she required essay responses.
Dr. Guevara is an amazing professor. Her online POLS R101 is not for everyone. Strict grader, heavy readings, challenging discussion posts, expects credible references with all assignments, two tough essays! Definitely a university level instructor. An A grade in her class is going to be extremely tough. A demanding course in all aspects for sure.
Midterm and finals take a majority of your grade fail one of those and you fail the class

Do not take this course. She's a tough grader and she doesn't lecture us. I was extremely excited to take this course. I had taken POLS R100 with another professor in Spring and I enjoyed the class. This professor is making it tough for me to enjoy the class. The book is the only source of lecture. The professor does not provide proper feedback.

Very tough grader, with little to no feedback. Do not take this course in the summer, and do not take this professor. I will not take her again for any other class!
I really hate her class. She have discussions requirements but even if you do all of them, youll still get low grades. PROVIDE LITTLE TO NO FEEDBACK, and if she does provide a feedback, most of them are too late to improve your next discussion posts. PROVIDE NO CRITICISM, JUST GOOD WORK but still give low grades.
The toughest professor I have ever had. Heavy homework, reading, tests, and discussion posts are all difficult. Not easy at all by any means, definitely don't recommend for people who are lazy. You will not get an A or B just by doing the work. Papers, discussions, and all work require citations. DO NOT take this class expecting and easy A or B.
Would definitely not recommending this teacher. Many of her test questions are subjective and up to interpretation. The student is basically left to choosing the answer that will likely align with her political leanings. Speaking of which, she is very left leaning and provides only left leaning material such as her posted documentaries/readings.
Not a good class by any means. She grades all of her heavily weighted discussion bords like a Doctorate Thesis. Even then she showed bias in grading as the students who wrote opinions more in line with hers got better grades. She offers no extra credit either. I would avoid this class at all costs. Especially if youre looking for a fair grader.

Would put just as much time if not more in this GE course than my physics 132 course which was 5 units. Expects discussions to be perfect. Final is a bunch of trick questions. DON'T TAKE THIS Professor!!
I took this class for dual enrollment to complete my American Government credit. I had read other bad reviews before choosing her but it was the last class available to me. She assigned discussions and tests which were heavily graded. She never really provided feedback either nor offered extra credit. There is a ton of reading as well.
Excellent professor if you are looking to go on to university. Tough grader, lots of reading, demanding, lots of homework, and two essays: one five page midterm, and a ten page final. People that post bad/negative reviews of this professor Guevara CLEARLY don't understand what university work will be like. Not an easy teacher by any means.
Doesn't really "teach" the class just gives you textbook chapters w/ multiple quizzes weekly. The answers are all in the textbook though, just skim through if you want. Discussion posts weekly as well, you must have timestamps from the long videos & textbook citings to get a good grade on them. You lose like 20 points if you don't respond to peers.
One of the harder classes I have taken at OC. Didn't enjoy her class due to only teaching out of the textbook and films. Discussions are heavily graded with a minimum of 500 words per response worth 100 points each. Took her during the summer, you have assignments due everyday of the week. Provided little to no feedback, do not recommend.
She is definitely a tough grader, but she notices when effort is put into assignments. I was impressed by her ability to respond to emails quickly, and assist during office hours. Initially she may seem like a difficult instructor, but if you work with her she can ensure you find a way to success. Also be prepared to watch lots of films.
Avoid this "professor" at all costs !!! She is the absolute worst and she will wreck your grade point average, don't expect to make above a C in this class unless you are a perfect essay-writing machine. All of her discussion posts are expected to be over a page long.
her syllabus and her syllabus quiz obviously haven't been updated because this was a fall class but it was talking about spring, and when the question asked when was the last day to drop class there were only spring month options. Discussions are attendance and almost every other day, with 2 page responses and 3 1hr vids. Quizzes are way too hard.
Im taking her 9 week course. This class is manageable. Discussions are 500 words and is most of the grade percentage. Frequent quizzes. Make sure to get the textbook very necessary. Overall good class.
Didn't offer feedback like the syllabus stated and didn't unlock the final exam essay when she said she would.
Grades very particularly, not one person in my class received an A on any of her discussions. Very hard grader, highest score on any assignment I got was 89%.
Took on summer. If need feedback ask. Recommendation: Use lots of stamp times with examples to back up what you are saying from the films and textbook. 3-5 ch, 25 questions on quizzes almost for all ch, no time limit 2 tries, 2-3 films 30-1hr, 5-8 questions per discussion 2-3 discussions all per week. Final exam 55 multiple ? time limited 1 try.
Took on summer she grades assignments when the summer class is almost going to be over. If need feedback emailed her she replied to me pretty quick. Is based on the films and textbook. Within a week there's multiple choice quizzes for almost each ch 2 tries no limited time, 2-3 discussions for each films, final is one try 55 multiple questions.
There is a lot of work and I felt like I wasn't taught what I needed to complete the work in the lectures. Most assignments are discussions on the book and long films. We used time stamps to prove we watched it and relate them to chapters of the book, and in the class we never read anything out of the book. Could've done the class online.
Assigns one 750 word essay a week. Assigns a 2-4 hour documentary to write the essay on. Doesnt grade the essays until the end of the semester, so you have no clue what your grade is.
Pol Sci 101. Pretty simple, consisted of discussion posts and quizzes. 1-2 hour vids required to be watched before doing the dis. post. Good thing is she gives you around 1-2 weeks to finish a module. Recommend: write notes on the dis. post and time stamps bc they are NEEDED. Unfortunately, the final really impacts your grade (55 multiple choice).
Do not recommend it. Each week is a 750-word minimum "discussion" on a 2-hour documentary, along with many tests. That is all it is, every week. In the later weeks, it randomly changed to 4 tests due 3 days apart and a discussion due simultaneously. Feedback is very minimal, and grades do not show soon enough to help you improve.

so much reading and the tests were difficult. Took long ago but I remember this class being so much work. Lectures were so long too.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I work full time everyday and chose online thinking it would be easier since I work. Nope. She assigns weekly quizzes AND discussion posts. Posts are basically essays and graded harshly. You have to connect 1-2 documentaries with reading AND an article. Even with required timestamps and citations, she asks for more.
Don't take if u a procrastinator. No Essay but her discussions are like essays (750 - 900) word minimum. Kept her grades locked: "I keep the overall grade locked so students don't see their grades low and start sending me a whole bunch of emails freaking out" Tried to keep calm; I'm a 4.0 student and I didn't know my grade till 1 week before. : (
Professor is nonexistent. You're learning by yourself the whole time. PowerPoints are useless. Discussion posts are essays, 750 words minimum with works cited. 1-3 documentary's plus articles. Super tough grader on discussion posts. Weekly quizzes plus posts. Never know what your overall grade is. There's no real teaching at all.
Professor Guevara's class was manageable, but the heavily weighted discussions required a lot of effort. The textbook was essential, and unstuck study was a big help for study prep. Overall, a decent course.
There are weekly discussion posts where you have to watch 1.5 hour+ documentary and answer questions about it with 10+ time stamps and over 750 words. Just super demanding on top of weekly lectures and quizzes. Takes a lot of time, and she's a super tough grader on them. I would not take her again, but if you're up for the level of work, good luck.
The grading is unnecessarily tough, inconsistent, tyrannical, and redundant. The work is not 'difficult'; it is more tedious. You do not learn anything about the legal system, but learn how to pick quotes out of documentaries and focus on the number of quotes you're inserting into your 750-word disc. post as opposed to learning about our system.
I wish the post limit was larger. The prof. is insufferable with her grading. Every week is a "discussion" (750 word essay) where you must cite the two or sometimes single source over 14 times just to earn a C. This happened to me and the only comment she gave was "cite more sources." Note over 13% of my writing was direct quotation.

Recently took her class and I regret it. She gives way too much homework with 2-3 chapters worth of reading and assignments PER WEEK! What's worst? Her final paper makes you do soo much research all for a small amount of points. Overall, not worth the time and money.
Weekly discussions and quizzes. No clear rubric. Often unlocked modules and assignments late, which was annoying for someone with 2 jobs and 15 units. Honestly, one of the easiest classes I've ever had because it was just FRONTLINE videos, timestamps and book citations. Did I learn? Yes. But it was more of an independent study vibe.

Professor Guevara was a chill professor knew what she was talking about a lot of Documentaries but there interesting and keeps you invloved Id rather do Discussion posts insted of three Essays how she would normally do it I already having essays due I appreciated the change up nice lady very understanding!
I'm taking her 4 week summer course. So far, we have had 2 quizzes and 2 long discussions. It's not that bad but you can't get distracted or you will fall behind. I will update when the course ends.
Crse is chpt quizzes & watch a 1 hr documentary & write a min 750-word discussion post citing txtbook chpts & film. Feedback is vague. Grading is tough & inconsistent. Impossible to earn grade above a 92. I earned high 'A's for my essays in every class; HIST, ANTH, POLS, ENGL. 3/10 crse. Independent study. Not worth $$$$. Ruined my 4.0 streak.
she's the toughest grader ever. you could literally write 2000 words out of 750 that she requires you to write and still give you a low grade. DONT take her.
She makes you watch 1-2 hr documentaries and provide time stamps and book citations on your 750 word discussion. I don't recommend taking her if you're a procrastinator. She's also tough on grading. I spent 2-3 hours on her long discussions and she gave me a 70 which lowered my GPA and the only reason I passed was because she curved my grade.
I think her class was pretty demanding and TOUGH. She's really nice but I don't think being a professor suits her. She makes you spend hours on her homework and gives you a low grade. If you're up for the level up work and spending hours going back in forth for time stamps and citations this is the class to take. Good luck..
Professor Guevara was the best professor I've ever had! She's so sweet and is always thriving to see all her students succeed. Her work was manageable although it did take some time but you learn so much throughout the course. Would take again!
10 long discussions that require ATLEAST 2-4 hours of your time. She super tough on grading them and gives you barely any feedback. You have to read 2-3 a week and relate it to the documentaries and use time stamps or she gives you a low grade. So much homework and don't recommend if you slack off easily.
This class was intense! Work due pretty much everyday and you have to watch a variety of films and relate it to the textbook and use MANY time stamps for evidence or you lose points. She's definitely a tough grader but she sees effort that is put in. If you plan on taking, get ready to spend hours on each assignment. She was generous though.

Dr. Guevara's course was manageable. You have to stay really focused and do your assignments because they take a lot of time. I enjoyed watching the films she gave us because they were interesting. I would take again!
This teacher sucks she must be close to retirement. This teacher expects a lot from students but her assignments are sloppy, with grammar errors and shortcuts. Writes '?s' instead of 'questions,' switches between bullets and numbers with no consistency, grades unfairly, and didn't grade classwork for over a month, making feedback hard to adjust to.
If youre expecting high expectations and then nor reciprocations this is the class for you. AN extreme amount of work using almost complete Ai, then she grades heavily for Ai. The quizzes do almost nothing for you're grade and it is all depending on these assignments that she expects every single week. Effort is way too much for what she puts in.
No lectures or actual notes provided. No instructions, just a few modules with assignments. Questions of quizzes sometimes don't match with what was said in the textbook. Piles everything into one module at the end of the semester with multiple discussions and quizzes due back to back.
Do Not take this class if you have a busy schedule, you will have to watch hour long documentaries with other articles and sources. Discussion posts are 750 words minimum with having to reply to two classmates. You cannot do the discussion without citations of the textbook or timestamps of the videos she provides.
Class is manageable. I am a busy person but I was able to get a A. Do not treat the discussion posts casually they are public essays. Write ok and answer the questions and you will get A's. There is a 2 pt penalty per day for assignments (capped at 5 days). Try very hard to turn everything in on time. Study past quizzes and textbook for the final.
this was an easy class. Learned a lot of important info about the United States and other politics. we only met once a week and mainly watched Documentaries talking about and having discussion posts. some people wont like that but for me I liked it!
