do not take classes with her EVER. she likes to screw her students over
Avoid at all costs! Unfair, unclear, and puts way too much pressure on students. I am an A student, but I got a D in her class
Gloria is brilliant and very passionate about psychology. She will make you work hard in any class she instructs. However, I have definately learned more from her than other instructors in the same field of study. She will make you feel like you can do anything if you can get through her class.
I have taken stats, cog psy, hist & systems & carrers with her. She is, in my opinion, the worst, anti-semantic professor I have ever laid eyes on. In my opinion, she dislikes white people, is not fair and certainly LOVES to see people fail. In her syllabus she notes that if you cannot compute your grade, make an appointment with a math tutor!!
Tells students to ask someone else. Very arrogant! From her mouth "Either you find ways to understand or you fail. I'm not a tutor".
Can be hard to understand. Test questions don't always make sense.
A very heartless professor. Gives no slack, puts students on the spot at the beginning of every class session by randomly asking questions on the material. Contradicts the text. I am an A student, and I am barely pulling a B.
Extremely difficult teacher. Not willing to help students. Oral quiz every day is 10% of grade, impossible to do well. A student, but barely got a B in 2 of her classes. Nice woman, but horrible teacher. Would not recommend to anyone!
She is challenging but this does not make her a poor teacher. Class topics are very well covered
Gloria expects a lot but this is college. Most profs are too easy, so don't be so hard on her. I'm an A student and I am getting A's in all her classes. You have to put the work in to get the grade! She gives you everything you need--everything is in her syllabus. She is extremely helpful and willing to work with you if you follow her rules!
Too many faults to list them all here. Allows students to monopolize class time when it is strictly forbidden in her syllabus, for an example. No compassion for students, whatsoever.
She's not as bad as some people are making her out to be. She is a very nice lady and I think she teaches the class very well. Just make sure to read the chapters and pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
I agree with many of the above commenters. This teacher is horrible. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HER. She is emotionally abusive, does not tell you what she expects, things are randomly due without warning, tests are extremely difficult, she's just plain annoying, and she is COMPLETELY unorganized. Do yourself a favor and don't take her.
Taken a few of her classes, you will fail....do yourself a favor and drive to the Winona campus and take anyone but her!!!!!!!!
She is definitely a tough teacher. It seems like she tests for the top 10% of her students to determine the best students. She expects too much studying to get an A in her classes. She doesn't seem to really encourage many As and her lectures are pretty much useless for tests. She's very unreasonable and usually there's only 1-2 at the end.

She is the worst teacher I've had as an undergrad. She discourages people from learning because her class is so overwhelmingly hard that you tend to give up before trying. She really is useless as a lecturer and doesn't know her material as well as some of her students. Waste of my money and time. 90% of students hate her teaching and randomness.
She is an extremely difficult teacher! At times she is even confused with her own material. Her lectures are poor as she hurries through them and skips important details. If you want to do good in her class I would suggest thoroughly studying the book, her notes, and a very unsocial lifestyle outside of class. Nice person overall but iffy teacher.
Wow, words can not explain how bad her teaching skills are. she's completely useless for lectures and her class is so hard to get an A in no matter how hard you try. a HUGE waste of time and money. i did not learn a thing from her and it took down my GPA as well. be wise, don't take any classes from her at all.
Wow, words cannot explain how bad her teaching skills are. She is useless for lectures and does not cover tests material. She expects very much, but teaches very little. I learned nothing from her & learned from the book on my own with friends. This class is a total waste of money and time. Be wise and don't take any of her classes at all.
fact: all of her classes have only 40-50 percent of students left. there are many kids that drop her classes for various reasons. they don't want their GPAs lowered, they're learning very little, they aren't passing, or they can't stand her as a teacher or person. Has no compassion for students. Bad lecturer, bad tests, bad everything!
i took her for most of my upper level classes at WSU. she is a challenging professor. i learned more from her classes than i did from any other professor. i am in grad school now, and am thankful that i had her. my current classes are much easier and i can spend my energy on going deeper into topics i love instead of relearning old material.
You have to decide: Do you want an easy A or do you want to learn? Too many people complain about how tough her classes are, but honestly, many of them just don't put in the work. Standards are too low in other classes and people expect the same from Prof. Marmolejo. Plan on 9 hours of work outside of class per week and you'll be fine.
Gloria should focus on teaching graduate classes. It's true she is not very helpful. In fact, when asked a question she told the person to ask a classmate. He stodd and asked everyone - no one knew the answer. She still refused to answer. Out of 22 who started, only 4 were left at the end of the semester. This is similar to all her classes.
Cognitive Psych: Learned Alot. She always comes to class with a positive attitude and I leanred alot off her
For your own good, stay away. She does a horrible job of explaining and her class moves faster then a G6. If you miss one day you better do some major reading. DON'T take her if at all possible.
Terrible Teacher! Dont take! She goes super fast and does not teach any of the material.
She is hand's down the worst professor I have ever had. She is the most inconsistent grader while at the same time being the most consistent time waster. A group of people worked on a project together and had all the same answers and every one of them got different scores. I am offended that I payed for her course and warn future students.
Gloria is an awful professor. She doesn't explain anything at all as she violently writes notes on the board and she refuses to help work with the students at all. If you can't figure things out on your own I suggest having a good friend in the class to help you because she absolutely will not.
She moves way too fast for students to properly understand things. She is awful at explaining things when asked by students. Close to half of the examples she puts on the board have incorrect calculations in them anyway. I usually am lenient with professors but I would not recommend her to anyone.
She moves way too fast and does not explain her work. The book is not necessary because it is online with the APLIA website that you have to purchase for use. All homework is on the website. She knows what she is talking about but the students rarely ever do. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
she either moves epically slow or way too fast. hard to understand what she is saying. don't need book just buy aplia.
HORRIBLE TEACHER.
She is an amazing professor. I got a B for stat class. Go to classes everyday and study for about 9-12 hours per week. I am sure you will get a B. You can learn a lot from her I recommend her to anyone. hard working is needed
Going into the class I had low expectations because of the comments on this site, but I was surprised at how helpful she has been and how much easier she makes statistics for me. I would definitely recommend her for anyone who also has a hard time with Stats. If you do the homework assignments and attend class regularly, you will do just fine.
Do not take this course with gloria if you are not willing to put ALOT of time into it She is a very very picky grader, and if you dont know all the details you are likely to do really poorly on the exams
Expects too much from students during tests. Lectures are easy to follow and homework is moderate, but tests are way more complicated. Homework takes forever and you don't get a notesheet on the tests. Assigned homework due during spring break and on Easter. All homework is completed online. Don't buy the book, the online course offers it.
Everyone said how horrible of a teacher she was. TRUTH shes the mot positive person i have ever met and has a huge passion for statistics. If you buy the book and read it and keep up with hw you should get a b in this class just fine. Its the kids who dont put in the effort who dont like this teacher. She not very good at answering questions thou
People have a strong reaction to her. She is one of the most passionate, enthusiastic, conscientious, and motivated teachers on the planet! However, you need to do your part, make an effort, and be committed to learning something. You'll either love her or hate her.
Lecture was very hard to follow because it was fairly scattered in my opinion and I didn't find her to be helpful when I went to ask her question.
She cares about her student's learning and will go the extra mile if you do. She has a good sense of humor and is very enthusiastic. Some of her exam questions are confusing, so make sure you study the books as well as take good notes.
This is a very interesting lady. She is very smart. She is very nice. She wants to see her students succeed. Problem is that she is VERY unclear. She teaches nothing in History, the students do (relying on others for correct answers) and her tests are very long and a lot of the questions are not relevant. I am hoping for a C and I/m an A student.
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! DO EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TO, IN ORDER TO AVOID TAKING HER CLASSES (PSY434, PSY369, PSY231, and PSY373)
She's a nice person & very knowledgeable about what she teaches but she should not be a professor. Her exams are too long & complicated. She doesn't give students enough time to finish them. I worked so hard in this class and I'm still getting a bad grade. The points assigned for homework aren't worth the amount of effort put into them
Very difficult teacher. Refused to let students use laptops to take notes, but also refused to post powerpoints (at all, even after class) so we could review what we couldn't jot down during class. Much of the test material is not in the book. No review sheets or other study material. I am a 4.0 senior & BARELY getting an A (before the final).
Dr. Marmolejo is a nice woman and enthusiastic about the subject. Class consists of weekly oral quizzes, 4 tests (cumulative final) and a small research project. A lot of textbook use. Class attendance is a must to have a chance at success. Test questions are tough but not impossible. I barely got a low B but know I could've tried harder.
Awful prof for this class, you have to write your notes, not type, and it's very difficult to keep up with her.
I took her Cross Cultural Psychology course. My advice: Read the book. It will make all the difference. English is not her first language, so it's more difficult for her to expand on some topics. Take notes on the PowerPoints, but be sure you know how to summarize very well. Not for the faint of study.
Don't ever take stats with her. EVER. Awful professor, grade is 100% based on exams and it's extremely fast paced, and she refuses to re answer questions. So awful, just run. Luckily, I somehow passed by the skin of my teeth. Over 13 of my class withdrew
Do not EVER take this professor. While she is a nice woman, and I feel bad for how toughly she's rated, it's for a reason. Ridiculously hard. Moves way too fast. I studied hard and am barely getting a C. I cannot stress enough to never take a class with her. Many are retaking this, including myself. You will not learn: you will just be overwhelmed.
This class was an abysmal waste of time. Won't even throw out questions on tests that the entire class fails, even when confronted about it by more than one class section. Incredibly unclear and expects you to know everything down to the punctuation marks as if you personally know the author. She's better than gandalf at making sure no one passes.
Expects students to be at a graduate level and to be taking ONLY her class. She does not answer questions or explain, she thinks what she says makes sense and doesn't understand when students are still confused. The homework is helpful, but incredibly time consuming & the exams are too long & make no sense. A C is the highest grade she gives. RUN.
I take her cognitive 369 class now and it's so hard. She is not very good at explaining concepts and has you rely on the book for a lot of information. She is my academic advisor and I want to get away from her. Not a good professor try and avoid her.
Worst professor on this planet and any others we may discover. Assumes that if questions on tests are largely failed that it's the students ineptitude and not her own doing. Couldn't teach her way out of a cardboard box. Gives cheat sheets for a few exams and they barely help
I cannot believe i paid good money to learn absolutely nothing in this class. She is always unclear, and expects you to learn how she thinks is appropriate as if everyone has the same learning style. Also, the questions on the final were completely scattered. Very bad experience
She just isn't a good professor, plain and simple
I wish I could rate a 0 for clarity and easiness. I attended class every day, completed all my homework (took me 6-8hoursweek), participated in class, and studied HARD for tests (15+ hours). I'm praying to my lucky stars I get a C. Tests are VERY hard and class averages would be failing in other classes (below 70) but uses large C scale (60-79).
hardest class of my life with the worst professor on campus
studied harder for this class than any other and still am praying for a C
If this class wasn't required for the major no one would take it. She asks you to paraphrase everything but then criticizes you if your paraphrasing isn't what she wanted. very poor teacher. Accept going in that you will get a C, it will make you life easier
So bad that i will warn others about becoming psych majors so they can avoid this professor
Awful professor! VERY VERY unclear and not willing to help students! Her lectures are very scattered and she gives the wrong definition to key terms. She gives no feedback and lies about what will be graded. She never graded our final projects for the semester, but gave us a final grade. How is she even allowed to be at WSU?!
Even if you studies everything in the textbook, you still wouldn't know enough to pass the sea of random questions she puts on the exams
The most frustrating part is that she won't work with students when they are concerned about their grade
Dr. Marmolejo was the worst professor that I have ever had in my entire college career. She refuses to listen to her students and thinks that we are the problem when really it is her impossible expectations an bad teaching style. She is not clear and it's hard to keep up with the class because the homework is so long. Do not take classes with her!
everything that needs to be said already has been. she is a horrible professor, simple as that
Absolutely awful. Unhelpful when you need it - repeatedly tells you you aren't studying correctly. Rams too much material into tests.
Dr. Marmolejo is an awful professor, she has unattainable expectations and her tests are so random and hard to figure out the actual question she is asking. She assigns way too much homework on Aplia and doesn't explain anything thoroughly during lecture.
She doesn't respond to emails, contradicts herself all the time and her exams tend to not be based on homework. Hard to get a good exam grade. Wouldn't recommend taking this course. (psych stats)
She is the only professor that teaches this class and it is necessary for graduation. She once basically told us that we were going to fail and blamed us for it. Her tests have too much information that you can't possibly study for. Lectures are fast&unhelpful. You don't know what to study for the tests or what is important.
Her tests are difficult, but she makes the C range more broad. (60-79%) which is helpful. Wouldn't recommend if there is another possible teacher to take.
Gloria is a very sweet woman. The problem is, she's lost her touch as a professor. In my experience, she's been just about everything but helpful. She doesn't check calculations, causing her to ask students answers in class. Topic tests are nearly every class period, she refuses to curve, and says the textbook is wrong. Thick accent, hardest class.
She is by far the worst statistics professor I've had. Her expectations in the class are very unclear and she is rude and unhelpful. The amount of time needed to do homework and study is unrealistic. And her "formula" sheet is a mess. AVOID TAKING HER!
Out of my 5 semesters in college, Gloria is probably the worst professor I've had. She has unrealistic expectations and her way of teaching is just very confusing. Please avoid taking her unless you want your grades/GPA to suffer.
The worst professor I have ever had! She does not care whether you succeed in her class or not. She is unhelpful when you need help in her class, as well as, in denial when students are struggling. Also, her tests are extremely difficult because there is multiple answers that could work for one question. Do not take any of her classes!!!!!!!!!!
Gloria is so nice during class, and she makes everything seem pretty easy. BUT the test are nothing what you talk about in class and in the book. She makes the questions herself so they are VERY confusing. Also she acts like everyone is doing well on the test or the quizzes but in all reality the whole class fails them. DONT TAKE HER!!!
I've never worked so hard in my life for an A. I don't think Gloria is that bad, I've had worse, but she isn't an easy teacher. My issue is her test/quiz questions aren't 'which one is correct'? it's 'which one is the MOST correct?' which is BS. I wouldn't recommend taking her, I don't plan on taking her again. If you have her, you better be ready
All I'm going to say is that if you have her, I'll pray for you because you will need every miracle to pass her class.
She wouldn't help me when I had specific questions on that I had gotten wrong. You'll ask her about one thing, and she'll basically tell you that you should have learned it during lecture or to find it in the book. Do you think I'd be asking you if I hadn't already looked there?!?!
She is absolutely awful. Completely unrealistic with her expectations of the students. Assigns way to much homework and her reasoning is that her youngest daughter gets math hw everyday so we should. Topic tests (quizzes) every single class period. Completely scatter brained. Makes her quizzes and tests hard to understand, won't explains things.
This is one of the worst classes I have taken. She doesn't give notes and goes so fast through her powerpoint you can't even write it down. This class is very book heavy and you are given a topic test every week. She also has her grades from 60%-79% as a C.
Gloria was my advisor as well as being my professor for Cross-Cultural Psychology. Started the semester with 22 people and ended with 6. The best grade in the class was a C. She was in denial that we were all failing everything and wouldn't allow us to correct her exam questions, which were frequently and blatantly wrong. 0/10 would not recommend.
Exams are nothing like what she teaches. Don't get anything out of lecture. DON'T take if you don't have to.
Dr. Marmolejo is so far the worst professor that I have ever had. She expects you to read her mind. She only goes over one example for what topic you are on and anything that she does not teach will mostly likely be on the test, so make sure you read the chapters. She makes a big deal if she has to go over something twice. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Dr. Marmolejo is a nice teacher but lacks the ability to grade assignments in a timely manner. I wasnt completely sure what I was getting in her class because she has large homework assignments (worth 40 or 50 points) and takes weeks to grade them. She also does not do a very good job of telling students about her homework expectations.
DO NOT TAKE DR. MARMOLEJO'S CLASSES! She is an awful teacher and does not do a good job explaining any of the material she teaches. You have to read the whole book if you want to learn anything from her classes. She does an awful job explaining homework, quizzes, and exams. Stay clear from her.
very hard to understand material and not helpful when asking for help- she just says to look in the textbook
Never take this professor. Her lectures make zero sense as well a her assignments. For every topic there is a short topic test worth 15 points. The questions on the tests never cover anything learned in class. For assignments she grades them as either all points received or none. So one error means u get zero points on already hard work
I have never felt more enraged after working on any class . Theres homework every daywhich will take you about 3 hours to do and you'llstill fail. As a statistics minor i thought i knew what I was doing. But the way she teaches it is so confusing, and outdated I was stuck on questions i knew the answers too but couldn't solve 1 of 30 ways she shows
She is a very nice person and cares about her students. I was able to understand the lectures pretty well, but sometimes we would run out of time in class and we would have to finish teaching ourselves the topic. She also had a lot of homework (at least one quiz a week) and the midterm and final are each worth 20% of the final grade.
Dr. Marmolejo was the worst professor I have had thus far. Her tests make absolutely no sense (you think you know the answers its something else entirely). She does not encourage her students and instead blames THEM for failing or not doing well. I am not sure why she still works at WSU.
I don't know why everyone is giving her such a bad rating. I really enjoyed her class. She made it very interesting and provided multiple real world examples. Some of the reviews are just sad. I mean, what do you think the textbook is for if you don't expect to use it? Be willing to learn, not just memorize facts and spit them back out on the test.
Gloria isn't satisfied with students just memorizing facts to regurgitate on tests. She wants people to understand the material. Unfortunately, she rambles constantly and is hard to follow. If you pick things up quicker than most, a lot of time is wasted, and it feels like she's talking down to you. If you hate busy-work, you will loathe Marmalejo.
I am in my senior year and this is the first and only time I have ever withdrawn from a class. Marmolejo gives weekly online tests w/ little flexibility on when they can be taken, expects you to learn information at an incredibly fast pace despite the fact that her mandatory lectures are useless, and she is really nice while making u feel stupid <3
Ok, not PC to say but she is Mexican and has a thick accent. She is a bit defensive about it, as in if you ask her to repeat herself she can get snarky. She knows her material but has little patients for students who dont. She is very into research and is good at it, but teaching seems to annoy her, I took her twice and was her RA,
Do not take a class with Professor Marmalejo. Yes she seems like a nice person but she is not a good teacher. Her lectures are unorganized and her homework/textbook readings do not prepare you for the quizzes/tests. When you ask for help on material, she just tells you to try harder and is very hard to reach. Don't take a class with her.
The midterm and the final are very hard I studied a lot and thought I understood the material but failed. The good thing is you can pass if you do all her assignments and projects. 60% is passing in her class
Nice woman, but a terrible professor. Her lectures make no sense. My class started with 25 people, and ended with 9. The class average was around 55%, everyone struggled. I'm not being dramatic when I tell you to avoid this professor at all costs. She blames her shortcomings as a professor on her students, who just want to learn! Worst class ever.
Honestly the worst class I have ever taken. She is super difficult and her quizzes are terribly hard when they shouldnt be. I do not recommend taking her classes.
Dr. Marmolejo's deadlines are severely inconsistent. I couldn't keep up with them until almost mid semester. Her attentive schedule doesn't match up at all, and though she's a very nice person, she is definitely one of my least favorite professors I've had so far. Avoid if you can!
She has a reputation for not not being liked, but its honestly how you wanna see it. She is a good teacher but people don't like her because they want an easy way out. They don't wanna really learn. Take her if you want to learn and don't mind putting in the extra work. I mean I averaged a C on the tests but still passed the class with an A.
Dr. Marmolejo did not provide a clear cut schedule for when each assignment was due - instead, she only put a select few on her calendar, and the pacing of each topic was very odd, irregular, and difficult to follow. Doesnt share her notes, actually reading the textbook is very important, and I would highly recommend studying with other students!
During class she talks as if she is trying to meet a 10,000 word count in a one page paper. Talks to you in Zoom like you are 12 yo and then screws you on the tests. Would not recommend unless you like falling asleep during class.
Good class, she taught well and was clear in what was expected and wanted us to learn. I was able to relate to what she was teaching and take what we learned in class to the real world!
Very enthusiastic and wants her students to succeed. Many fun and interesting opportunities to learn about new cultural backgrounds.
Professor Marmolejo speeds through lessons and will go off on random rants about things during lecture. She rarely goes over how to complete problems during class and expects you to learn things on your own. I advise avoiding her as a professor
I am a senior and Professor Marmelejo is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She speeds through the content during class and makes it impossible to take notes. She makes you do loads of homework and her exams are impossible. She also never replies to emails when you ask for help. NEVER take her she makes you feel worthless.
Although she is a nice lady, she is not a very good professor. I felt like I did not learn anything from her class, the tests were impossible, she does not respond to emails, and the homework takes FOREVER. If you have the chance to take Psy 231 with someone else, do it. Our class average was a 51% and she does not curve anything.
Gloria is a nice person but a terrible professor. She does not explain things and is terrible at getting back to emails. She makes class topics more complicated than they need to be. She will go off on rants about topics that are unrelated to class and will make you more confused than you were before.
I honestly hated this class so much. She was really bad at getting back to students by email. There were students in my class who emailed her 3 times about the same thing with no response. She always talked about how we need to put in more effort to be successful. Very hard to do so when your professor does not respond to their students.
This class is super hard!! I was scared the whole semester I would not end up passing. Be prepared to not know your grade till the end of the term. The Midterm and Final are super hard. Make sure you do well on the topic tests and homework or else you will not pass the class. While she is a very kind lady her grading system is very confusing.
This class was overly complicated. Do not take anything with her unless you HAVE to. She barely lectures, and she makes it really hard to take notes. All tests and quizzes are nearly impossible to score an A on because she doesn't lecture over their content. I would never take again.
Exams are multiple choice, often two answers are technically correct, with one answer being "most correct". Her accent makes her hard to understand at times. She has a hard time describing things and lacked in her ability to provide clear examples, they were often more confusing than clarifying. Definitely have to rely on the textbook to pass.
She was not very accessible outside of class. I emailed her over 5 times throughout the semester & got no reply back except for once which she responded over a month after I sent my email. For tests you had to choose the "most correct" answer, & even if the majority of the class did poorly, she did not curve them. Nice lady, but a bad professor.
She is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She actively writes tests including concepts that have not been covered in class. Her tests and quizzes are horribly self written, and she does not accept reasoning for a "second best" answer. If you cant, do not take a class with her.
This was probably the worst professor I've ever had. I basically had to teach myself the entire course. She rushes through topics and the homework takes hours to complete. She hasn't graded things that were due over a month ago so I basically don't know if I'm even going to pass the class. Take a different professor and save your gpa.
If you're the type of person that likes to do things on your own/learn on your own/learn all your own material and not be taught, then this class with Professor Marmolejo might be for you. Otherwise, don't take this class. You will end up teaching yourself. She does not curve grades either, even though our class average was a 50%. Avoid her.
This professor is a great person but is not clear at all when giving lectures. she goes way too fast and expects you to teach yourself. If you want to get at least a B on the exams, read the book. content in lectures are not on the exam. don't take this professor if you don't have to.
She is a great person, but not a great professor. I enjoyed to content of the class, but I never seemed to study the right information for the weekly topic tests and 2 exams. some projects that were easy, and a mandatory attendance to a cultural cafe. She is also really hard to reach outside of class. I would say take her if you want to work hard.
Absolutely loved this professor. Easily one of the hardest classes I've taken, but it was so engaging. She is passionate about what she teaches. Was dedicated to making sure you understand things too- she once stayed multiple hours after her office hours to make sure she could see me when I had questions. Just an amazing professor.
Just the worst. I haven't even finished the semester and the entire class is already barely passing. You genuinely cannot miss class or else you will fail. NOTHING is posted on the website, NOTHING in lectures is on the test. she actively screws over the entire class to where my 62% on the quiz was above the class average. avoid at ALL COSTS.
She is a genuinely is a good person, and you can tell that she loves what she is teaching. But she is a horrible teacher, and unnecessarily hard with the whole class. If you are behind on the homework/test, just withdraw. Having to deal with hard test with little to no help, While also refusing to take accountability when the whole class is failing
Good luck in class, on your second attempt.
I wish I had known about her before, as I need to retake the class this summer (online). She explains the easy stuff in class and tests you on all the hard. She is nice, but then throws her political views into the mix. I would give a rating of -7/5 if I could. One good thing is she does follow the syllabus.
She does not give helpful feedback, is late to every meeting/class, very harsh grader, and overall super challenging professor to work with.
