Wow! This was seriously one of the best English courses I have ever taken. Glynis Hoffman is an excellent English professor. She is always cheerful and has a great personality. A truly dedicated teacher who enjoys her job.

Great teacher and great class! Teaches you a totally new way to write and read English. You improve by 100%. She isn't totally hard. Just make sure you do the readings and take some notes. So worth it- you learn a lot! Definitely recommend to anyone who would like to write better.

Glynis' class was the the most benificial class I have ever taken. She is amazingly animated and makes even the most difficult work fun and rewarding. If you are willing to work your butt off, you will come out a better writer. The negative reviewers are lightweights!...(ever seen Orange County?)

Glynis is an awesome professor. Her class definitely helped me improve as a writer. As long as you like English and can focus, the class shouldn't be too hard. Just be open to new ideas and techniques (they're really beneficial and will help your papers be fun to read). Glynis is easy going and friendly, but don't think you can walk all over her.

Like English boot camp. It really stretches your brain and forces you to become a better critical thinker. This is painful at times, but in the end, it's most definitely worth it. Glynis' critiques can be very valuable in improving your essay writing skills, and she is one of the most interesting people I have ever met. She wears cool ties.

Awesome teacher with a passion for what she teaches, anyone who pays even a little attention will learn something in this class. She is very understanding, just doesn't want you to be lazy. Go to her office hours if you need help, or email her, SHE IS INCREDIBLY HELPFUL. A+

Glynis is an amazing teacher--so good that after taking 100 with her i came back for 101. She does a really good job of explaining her assignments and making want she wants for an A paper clear. Her classes are not easy, but she is willing to heip by email or in person. If you work hard you can get an A, but she will turn you into a great writer!!!

Definitely recommend taking her class. She really cares about her students and wants you to learn. Gives a lot of homework, but most of it isn't very hard to do. Go to every class or you'll lose points fast (the entire semester is out of 100 points.) I learned so much from her class and have gotten so much better at writing essays thanks to her!

She may seem tough at first but I can honestly say I've learned more from her class than any other English classes I have taken combined. She is extremely helpful and her feedback is clear and honest. If you keep up on the reading and do the workouts you should do well in this class. Awesome teacher. Highly recommended.

I've learned more about how to write a sentence than I did in elementary school. She goes over the basics and it will boost up your writing skills. She motivates you and having computers in her classroom is definitely a plus. She really cares for her students. You'll learn a lot if you take this course.

Before this teacher, I HATED ENGLISH! I learned more from her in the two classes I took with her than any and all english classes combined! Anyone that left a sad face or a so-so face for this teacher either was a slacker or didn't put enough effort into doing the work. Not hard, wrote papers the morning they were due and got A's and B's.

I absolutely adore this woman! If I were a man I would want to have her babies. Besides that, she uses her own book she and her husband wrote and it is very helpful and wonderfully witty. She made me passionate about writing and I will always remember her as being one of my best teachers!

I absolutely love her! She's so funny in class.I try reading the stories for hw and I fall asleep but reviewing it with her in class is so interesting. She gives everything a certain character. i took her for both my english classes...she is AMAZING. She's very smart, funny, and she is raw. she tells it like it is and i love her for that. GREAT TEACHER!! But lots of work. The reading is a must or you will be lost. There is a lot of work..reading, workouts and essays. If you e-mail her she will review paper and tell you want to improve on which can help you get the A. Just to the work and e-mail her and you should pass with an A. Best English teacher I've ever had. Expect to do a lot of writing- but it is well worth it. If you ever need help with an essay, she is more than happy to give you guidance. I absolutely adore Glynis. She is the funniest, easiest-going english teacher I have taken (and that's a lot of classes.) She makes her assignments easy-to-understand, and instead of writing essay after essay, she breaks them down into parts so you can get better grades on the TWO that you do turn in. I hate english, but Glynis forces you to like it. She helps you develop your writing skills that most wont use past college, but its not her fault GE forces us to be well rounded. Excelent personality, funny, puts question marks at the end of most sentences when she talks? 100 pt grading scale, 10 pop quizes, 3 major essays, + a few smaller assign.

Film as Lit. Glynis has a wide knowledge of foreign film. This class is not a movie class. It is to expand your knowledge on foreign film and help you write essays on film. (although the concepts could be applied to any subject material) I recommend Glynis.

She is one funky professor! I love going to her class in the morning, because she's an early bird and will make your day with her spunky attitude. She is one of the BEST teachers I have ever had. I really enjoyed going to her class. This is not an easy A, but it's definitely worth taking. 2 papers, one midterm, one final, 13 or 14 homework assignments overall. The class is out of 100 points so it's important to go to class and do all the work. Everything is worth at least 2% of your grade.

Sure it's not an easy class... but she is really helpful. I bombed the first assignment and have climbed to a B since. She lets you e-mail her paragraphs of your paper while working on it for feedback, which is extremely helpful. Challenging class but very reasonable.

By far my favorite professor at OCC. She has a different learning style/approach that I have ever had as a student and I loved it! She definitely challenges you and makes you work hard for your grade, but if you do the assignments and ask for help (always willing to help), then you'll get a good grade. During my college career,I have not had a challenging teacher like Glynis. For some reason I struggled much more with this class than 100 (I think it was because there was a definitive structure of what to write ABOUT but not how to organize it; the opposite of 100), but i am glad it was with her

One of my favorite teachers. She's funny, helpful, and made me, for the first time in my life, actually interested in writing and essays. The course isn't easy, and requires a pretty decent amount of homework, but you will be glad you took it with her.

If you want a hard English class take her. Shes a really nice professor and is always willing to help you; however if you arent into English like how I was I recommend you not take her because you will have the most challenging Englsih class you would have ever taken.

Glynis is such a wonderful and fun teacher! She engages each student and gives them opportunities to participate and shine. Her essay topics are inspired, which leads to really brilliant writing on the part of the students. She also encourages peer reviews which gives every student the chance to dissect writing as an art. Dont take this class if youre gonna slack off. 2 of my friends thought they were gonna"cruise to a B"but ended up dropping. I stayed & got an A. That being said, it took away a lot of study time from my other classes. No Eng class @ OCC is easy. Glynis really cares & is an inspiration. I've always hated English class starting from middle school throughout high school. Turns out I've only had horrible teachers. So glad I took glynis. She teaches you these little techniques that youre like wtf is this is this even forreals but then you piece them all together and write a killer essay. Definitely not an easy A, I had to work for it.

Her class consists of 5 essays/assignments. I highly recommend sending her your drafts for feedback. She will help you get that A if you go out of the way for it. Don't use your phone in class! She gets pretty annoyed by that. Great professor, somewhat eccentric (in a good way) but interesting. I learned a lot from the class.

For English 100 you have 2 essays, cuple summaries and analysis from the book 100 great essays. Her lectures are very interesting and fun because she makes you analyze little details that she clarifies later. I learned a lot in her class. I totally recommended.

Ms. Hoffman is quite hilarious as she particularly likes to keep the classes enjoyable. The basic motto for her class is that if you want a good grade, then simply do your best. She is very understanding for problems with home, but she can smell lies like the nature during spring. Overall, an excellent teacher to have for beginning English 100.

We typically analyze a single story for the entirety of the class, which can become quite dull. Nevertheless, she finds a way to keep students focused.

She is honestly one of the best professor's I have had at OCC. She speaks her mind (which I like, she is hilarious) and makes the classroom extremely comfortable. She does not call on people unless she thinks you have something to say, lets people who have things to say speak or comment on the work as much as they want.

Always professional, polite, with good sense of humor. Taking care, passionate, reasonable about everything she talks. Not much reading, lots of open discussions. Good-structured course: only 4 big assignments, some other random not easy but valuable papers, and she kindly gives extra-time. I really started to love writing. She's the best!

Professor Hoffman is the best English teacher I have ever had. She is very helpful when working with you on essay's. The class is not easy but if you put the work in and listen to her directions, you should do fine.

An amazing instructor who forces you to get started on the major essays in class so you don't procrastinate. She's super helpful and will always give you feedback on your work if you e-mail her. The class isn't that hard if you put in the time and effort.

ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT OCC!!! Took both of her semesters and completely loved it! Glynis is a real gem. She is hilarious and extremely helpful. Her class isn't a walk in the park but if you ask for help and follow her requirements you'll be solid. She gives you a lot of time in class to start essays and is always available outside of class!

I took Miss. Hoffman for English 101 in Fall and realized she is the best English teacher I have EVER had! She truly cares about English, her students, and making English enjoyable! She gives all the feedback you could ever imagine through email if you any questions and she even went so far to bring donuts and bagels and toaster haha! How awesome!

Took her course for English 100 course during fall 2018 and it was the best English class I have experienced. Her lectures are clear and easy to understand. Homework and essays weren't too difficult but she is somewhat of a tough grader so don't slack off on them. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a good English professor.

To this day, Glynis is one of my favorite teachers and I only had her one semester. Not only is she highly intelligent and a gifted creative writer but also the funniest person I've probably ever met. Her humor is raunchy so if that bothers you I don't recommend this class, Glynis will stress you out then make a tit joke a second later. Loved it.

I loved prof. Hoffman! She was always coming to class excited to teach and I'm glad I took her class. A little essay heavy but what else should you expect from an English class.

Professor Hoffman comes to class everyday with positive energy and is also hilarious! You do get called on in class every so often which I get anxiety from but this is the one class I actually feel comfortable to speak in. This class IS homework heavy with 4 major essays. She is extremely fair with grading. I wish I had her for ENG100!

The hardest essay is the 3rd essay but she helps you the entire time and gives you amazing feedback! Classes are small and she calls on you to read excerpts from the text. Her class is never boring and she is hilarious! Always look forward to her class.

I absolutely loved this class and Glynis! She presents engaging and interesting topics that make you want to go to class and try hard in your essays. She really takes the time to give helpful feedback and always answers on time. Would most definitely take again!

I loved Glynis and her class so much! It wasnt always my favorite but it was eye opening. She prepares you for everything so that youre not surprised or overwhelmed, and I love that about the class. She is a fair grader, she helps a lot if you go to her for help. Ive never liked English classes but this one was honestly great. Thank you Glynis!

WOW. I had Glynis for ENGL 100 and took her again for ENGL 101 because of how amazing she is. I loved going to her classes because she's so interactive, friendly, relateable, and hilarious. If you want to laugh and actually enjoy writing then take her, by far one of my favorite professors.

She inspired me to do a lot of things after I took her class :) She told me that I will never pass English 100 just because English is my second language. Instead of getting salty, I pass English 100 again after 4 months (but with a better teacher), so thank you for inspiring me.

Glynis is such a wonderful teacher! This class was super easy for me, English is my first language and I generally like writing. I learned a lot in her class and I thoroughly enjoyed the literature she used for assignments. She really guides you through the work and offers loads of help along the way. Take her! She's an amazing teacher! I've never realized how good my writing could be until I take her. She's very dedicated to teaching and wants her students to succeed. There's quite a lot of reading but it's doable. There are 4 papers and a couple analyses. Just take her and you'll become a much better writer.

Best english teacher ever!!! Please take her class!! Not only did she make an online english class (COVID time) interesting and fun, she also genuinely wants her students to succeed. She is incredibly helpful and always gives great feedback. She will definitely make you a better writer. 100% recommend to anyone.

She definitely made the best out of her lectures, the discussions were fun and she always gave amazing feedback for our papers. Her assignments aren't easy A's though, so for those who aren't strong writers, make sure you're putting a lot of effort into your essays.

Take her class! She made me a better writer. Her teaching style is different from other professors, keep that in mind. 2 essays. the final essay is just a compilation of assignments in the later half of the course.

I loved this class & I learned so much. Professor Hoffman is a great professor. As long as you are willing to put in effort and stay on top of assignments you will do well in the class. If you have a concern about a grade you can ask her a question and she will give you really good feedback for the next assignments. Lectures were entertaining!

She is the best Eng Professor at OCC, I took both eng 100 and 101 with her, and she was great. Dont be scared if you suck at writing, she will teach you from zero, make sure to always email her for feedback and participate in class.

Six essays will be graded along the semester based on how good you practice and use the skills that she teaches you in Adios textbook. She works along side with students (she wrote her own essays) and use them as demo for students to analyze the techniques. Practice the skills and email them to her, she will give you detailed feedbacks.

I personally enjoyed her class. It was tough work, but I learned a lot. You analyze different texts and times you for it. I wouldn't be worried if you prepare well for them. You can send her an email asking her to review parts of your essays in advance, so you know what you can work on to get a good grade.

Glynis was such a dream! She teaches you new ways to make your essays special and new techniques you might not have known about. Uses the book her and her husband wrote and is easily accessible through email. Her feedback is very helpful and is always looking for ways to help you understand. Make sure you pay attention and are ready to read a lot.

She takes a LOGICAL approach to writing & teaches it almost like a science, giving your writing a clear structure & style, rather than the abstract bs like most eng classes. Yes she wants things a specific way, but only because that will help you make a more cohesive argument. This class WILL significantly improve your writing if you pay attention

After seeing all the fantastic reviews one might think there is not much left to say but to take this class! She is caring and understanding just like a terrific teacher should be. You can hear the passion flow as she teaches, it rubs off quite naturally. You'll learn many writing techniques. There's quite a bit of doable hw so make time. :)

The fact she wrote her own textbook for this class was nice. Her explanations/lectures useful and overall was caring all around. Honestly if you put in the effort to the work you are doing then you will get a good grade. Overall happy with her feedback for each essay and work.

She was great in her lectures on making things interesting in both courses. This course is not an easy "A" however. You must do well on basically every single assignment if you want an A. Your grade in the course is calculated by the average of your assignments which are all 4 points each and about 5-6 in total.

This class consists of 5 essays (the first one is kinda semi-essay), which directly counted to your final grade. Writing is actually tough, but she's really helpful and so willing to give feedback on students' essay. She is professional, and sometimes she gave free donuts to the class too lol. Would definitely take her again for ENG A101.

Glynis was one of my favorite professors of the semester. We learned many writing techniques that helped me significantly improve and become a better writer. When she gives feedback, it is in depth and explained thoroughly. My writing does not compare to how I used to write before and I have Glynis to thank for that. She also brought us doughnuts!

The Work is challenging but you can always email her for help and the classes also provide support. Professor Hoffman has a lively atmosphere, and yes, she can be sarcastic, but she can also be teased. she doesn't embarrass students but holds you accountable. Hoffman has an unusual approach to writing, but I enjoyed it.

The work was not easy. We read short stories and watched some interesting films and discussed and analyzed them and had a little bit of writing to do pretty much every week. Professor Hoffman seemed available accessible, but had a limit--especially for students who were not doing the class.

Professor Hoffman is demanding and there was no extra credit, but there is a liberal late policy. The class was relaxed and there was always lots to discuss, but the atmosphere is lively. Definitely a good class to take--liked the mixture of stories and films

Supportive--you can email her anytime for help and is very encouraging in her comments and feedback. Super clear, though, about the expectations and will let you know if you cross the line--texting during class, coming late and not participating.

Great lectures, has her own book for the class that's super helpful, great feedback, super accommodating with projects, makes class a lot of fun, doesn't give busy work, and actually helps improve your writing. Definitely would take her class again!

ENG101 is a difficult course itself hence the level 4 difficulty. However the professor is EXTREMELY HELPFUL and will give very specific feedback before you submit your assignment to help your grade (you need to email her). Participation and effort is mandatory to pass but if you put in the work, you will get a good grade and learn so much!

Fun lectures, great feedbacks, and very accessible outside of class but please don't take her class lightly: if you disrespect her or her teaching (being late, being on your phone during class, or just generally show no interest in the lesson) she WILL pick on you for it. Just be a good student and you won't have any issues.

I loveeee this professor, she was so kind and helpful all throughout the semester. She kept class very fun and she was always helping us with our assignments. I was struggling at first but I reached out for help and she was very kind to always answer my questions. There isn't that many assignments so they are very valuable. Would take her again!

If I could recommend any professor at OCC, she would be it. She is incredibly smart and informative and furthered my love for english. It may seem hard at first, but when you work with her and read her feedback, it becomes easy and fun. All materials are easy to follow yet complicated, so come with a critical eye. She's also super funny.
