Great professor! You could tell he is really passionate about teaching and really cares about his students.
Mr. Ramos is the best! He always comes in with a great attitude and wants us to learn. He even brings snacks for the class! The tests arent difficult because everything you need to know are on his slides which he always uploads for the class!!!!! Last thing, he is super understanding!! Best teacher IMO.
Absolutely amazing teacher. He really connects with his students and always has a great attitude. He goes over everything you need to know for the exams and gives ample time to complete the handful of short papers he assigns over the semester. He is very passionate and always there for his students. Wonderful teacher, wish he taught more classes!
Hands down this guy is my favorite professor.. Not only is he funny, he even uses hip hop and memes when he teaches. Oh yeah, he is the most understanding teacher that I've ever met. It blows that he doesn't teach more classes.
By far, the BEST professor I've ever had. He makes every class fun and interesting while still very informative and educational. If you put in the time and effort, you can definitely earn an A. I hope in the future he has more classes so more students can have him as a teacher. He is definitely a professor I will never forget!
This professor makes every class enjoyable. He is funny, passionate about sociology, easy going, and genuinely cares about ALL of his students. For example, there were a few assignments that I missed because I was ill and he emailed me just to check in. I have never had a teacher do that before. Truly one of a kind. Take him.
This is the only class I loved going to. The professor is really knowledgeable and encourages students to "think outside the box" when analyzing social issues. You could tell he cares a lot about social justice. In terms of work load, there were 5 short papers, 2 quizzes, a midterm, a final, and a handful of class assignments you turn in for points
This guy is for sure the best professor in the sociology department. Had a great time attending class. Didn't give me a reason to avoid attending class, not like other professors who bore you with dry lectures. I would strongly recommend this professor.
Best teacher I ever had. His lectures are very engaging and encourages students to participate in class discussion. I'm majoring in Sociology now because of him.
Prof. Ramos is hands down the best out. Show up, participate, do the work, and you're gonna pass. Sounds like a lot, but he makes it worth it! He's super funny and keeps class interesting. Wish I could take the class again!
Very easy to learn, if you show up to class tired, he keeps the class very engaging and able to get a good laugh while learning. He provides the material to learn and study and makes a very fun class. He also gives plenty of notice for requirements. Very hip and familiar with current culture
My semester is not even over but I feel compelled to write a review. Every rating about him is true. He is so funny, genuinely cares about all his students, and always brings snacks for the class. The class so far is not difficult but I would recommend attending every class because he gives you hints on what will be on tests. Amazing teacher.
One of my favorite teachers. He's really cool and relateable and tells tons of jokes. His grading is fair but make sure you follow directions. He deducts points if you don't. There's something due almost every week so dont take him if that's not your cup of tea. All of his lectures make me analyze everything I see because he makes it relateable.
Although there is a lot of homework in the class, it really isn't that difficult. To be honest, it'll work to your benefit because it'll help you study for the tests. Great class, great teacher. Take him.
Professor Ramos is one of the most caring teachers I have ever met. He always takes the time to check in on people and wants everyone to do well in the class. Even if you miss class, he posts the slides online to review. On top of that, he is the fastest professor to ever respond to an email! LOL. Can't wait to take him again next semester!
Highly recommend taking this class! Very motivational and makes class fun and thought provoking. Be prepared to think. Homework is do every week and really helps towards tests. Funny instructor and by far one of the best
Professor Ramos was by far the best Sociology teacher on campus. His class is really easy and clear and as long as you do the journal entries, review questions, easy papers, and the super simple group project at the end, you'll get an A and if not an A, than at least a B but it's hard not to get an A. He relates to the students. HIGHLY recommend.
Unlike any professor I have ever taken. Believe the hype.
I have easily never had a professor as invested in his students as Prof Ramos. He's easy to get in touch with, makes an effort to know his students, and cares about student well-being above all else. Take his class - you wont dread coming to school.
Pros:-Understanding when situations come up and you MUST miss class -Compassionate professor -Study guides! -Intersting lectures Cons: -Assignments due every class -Films used often which can be hard to stay awake for Overall a great class
Prof Ramos is such a gem! I took his 3 hour Monday night class and never hated coming. He's super relaxed and funny, but definitely expects a lot from his students in a good way! It's very rare to see a teacher connect with his students on the level he does. Your brain and stomach will always be fed. LOL! Would definitely take him again!
Truly best professor possible. He cares about each and every student and wants you to succeed. 5 2pg papers, group project and chapter questions are what you can expect for homework. There is absolutely no reason why you should not get an A in his course. He's accommodating and understanding. I wish I could have him again, highly recommend!!
Ramos is by far the best sociology teacher on campus. Very easy class with clear instructions on each assignment. His lectures are very funny and interactive with his students. If you just show up, listen, and do each assignment, you'll get an easy A. Very useful study guides as well. Doesn't surprise you on tests and quizzes.
He cares about each and every student and wants you to succeed. There is absolutely no reason why you should not get an A in his course. 5 2 pg papers, 1 group project and chapter questions. He's understanding and accommodating. I highly recommend!!
Such a fun, enthusiastic teacher! Workload isn't too bad. The majority of class is based on class discussion and in class assignments. No reason to get anything lower than a "A" if you put in the effort. Great class!
Does not follow class schedule from syllabus, which can be frustrating at times. Uses a lot of introduction to sociology concepts in class, so it doesn't seem challenging if you took intro beforehand. Lecture/slides go quickly, but he uploads them online. Can also be unclear about examples regarding sociological concepts.
Amazing professor! Lecture is informative, easy to follow and interesting. He likes to get the class engaged so he will make everyone speak up before the end of the semester. Uses hip hop music, memes, and everyday experiences to relate to students and lecture. Posts powerpoint on D2L, test are easy if you study, goes over study guide in class.
Awesome person as well as an awesome teacher!
Loved his class! His teaching style makes you want to attend every class because hes really animated. Only drawback is that he only teaches two classes and I cant take him again :(.
Ramos is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's funny, genuine, knowledgeable, and is extremely passionate about teaching. The workload is a lot as there is something due every class, but it is not that difficult. Papers are graded fair but make sure to follow the requirements. Definitely a professor I will never forget.
Amazing class! Amazing professor! Loved coming to class
The greatest class Ive ever had. Will never forget it!
Professor Ramos is the best professor for Sociology at DVC! This teacher is the best! He encourages classroom participation, is hilarious, and the very best! I have no words to describe his class, but by far, he is the most beneficial professor! TAKE HIM!
Professor Ramos is the best. One of my favorite teachers I have ever had. His lectures are fascinating, and he is HILARIOUS. Class seems more like hanging out with a knowledgeable and professional friend. There is homework due every week, 3 papers, and 3 exams but if you come to class and do the work and reading then you are set up for success!
Yo, Prof. Ramos is the best! I was always excited for this class. Ramos throws some music into his teaching and it's so amazing. He really knows how to get the lesson through to you.
My absolute favorite class! Never a dull moment. Dont ever try to cheat in his class. Hell catch you. Lol! Definitely a teacher I will always remember.
He is a really great professor. He gave me more motivation to study sociology. By the way, His extra credit always funny and amazing.
He is nice professor!! He had a lot experience teach student so he already know what is difficult for student so he really really make a comfortable to student you have to come in on time have to respect homework is not difficult if you try hard I sure you can get A
Professor Ramos does a great job trying to make class fun and relatable. Time goes by so quickly in his classes, it never felt like a chore coming to class. I'd definately take him again and recommend him to other students.
I really learned a lot of new perspectives from this class. Workload isnt bad. 3 papers, some textbook questions, and 3 tests. Professor is funny and keeps lecture interesting.
I loved coming to this class! He incorporates a lot of popular culture into his lesson plans so it makes fun coming to class. He is very patient and open-minded and makes sure that each student is respectful to one another's opinions.
Professor Ramos is such a great fit for this subject! He is very passionate about social problems in today's society & he tries his best to relate to his students. Many of the topics throughout the course can become very personal but he never made any one feel uncomfortable or was judgmental. Great teacher !
Professor Ramos is a fantastic teacher, was my favorite classes I've taken so far. He is very kind & passionate when it comes to his teaching & wants student to grow. We touch on many different yet interesting topics like pop culture. the work load is manageable just participate, show up to class & do the work . loved the class
His class is a lot of fun and he makes it easy to learn. He keeps his lectures relevant and humorous, and he appreciates class participation. He wants his students to succeed, so he gives clear instructions on homework and tests. As long as you follow those instructions and show up on time, theres no reason not to succeed and have a great time.
Hands down, the best class at this college. You won't regret taking it.
Professor Ramos is, without question, THE BEST professor of all time all the time. I know this for certain because I have traveled throughout the entire space time continuum and I can confidently say he is Number 1. Id highly recommend taking his class. He makes me smile.
Great caring professor. I have him right now and his class is pretty legit. The only negative about his style is the fact he says "RIGHT" at least 300 times during his lectures. Today I counted and he was under 157 so maybe 300 was a slight exaggeration :) #RIGHT!
100% the best prof I've ever had. He introduced me to a love and appreciation I didnt even know I had for socio. TRULY cares for his students and their success. As long as you show up, listen and take notes, it'll be an easy A. DEFINITELY would take again. He always came into class ready to make people laugh and learn in the best way possible!
I'm taking Ramos for a soci100w at San Jose State and he is absolutely the most caring professor I've ever had. This semester has been really tough for me for personal reasons, but he always finds the time to check in and encourage me. Yes he's a tough grader. But personally that motivates me to become a better writer. Wish he taught more classes
His social problems class is a lot more difficult than his intro to socio class. Exams are waaaaay more harder, but he doesn't grade too hard on the essay section. Challenging but rewarding. Loved his teaching style.
I really loved taking Professor Ramos' class. He doesn't shy away from the tough and touchy subjects within the social problems realm and I really learned a lot. Group project was actually fun and the entire class was interesting. Mild homework, not super heavy but it does all count! Also, he gives you a dope study sheet for midterms and finals!!
I hate school but I enjoyed his class.
If you waste his time he will only do so much in his words some students pay for this class and i will not waste what they pay for. you have to be in class on time or he will not accept your homework great teacher a lot of sense of humor.
Prof Ramos, hands down the best professor I've ever had! Introduced me to a love for socio I learned that I had and changed my major. Super funny lectures and his grading is easy as long as you show up & do your assignments and group work. Those study guides for the quizzes/midterm are lit!!! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a fun class.
One of the best professors, 100% recommend taking him.
His exams are very difficult and I don't think lectures prep us for that. Be prepare to do lots of reading and taking notes on your own otherwise you might feel pressed for time on his tests.
I would honestly love to go back to this professor 10/10
One of nicest teachers in the campus. Patient, humorous and caring. I enjoy his class and have a great time with him. Highly recommend taking him.
He is really interesting and makes the whole class get interested as well in whatever chapter he teaches. Best professor ever hands down.
I love Ramos! This class is so easy, if you dont pass its because you did not put in minimal work. The class is very entertaining as well. He knows his hip hop which is really cool, and he is very relatable. Take his class but TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY! This is college after all.
Professor Ramos is a really funny and relatable teacher. He's lectures are heavy but funny and interesting. He doesn't take role however if you miss a class you'll most likely miss crucial information as well as random in class activities. He's a really understanding and accommodating teacher. 10/10 would recommend!
If you're looking for a class to get an easy A, with minimal work, this is not it! Take this class if you're ready to participate, learn, and leave inspired. If you come with this attitude you will leave with more than you might expect. Professor Ramos is one of the most inspirational and dedicated professors I've ever had. Makes class enjoyable.
Great Professor, very caring.
I really appreciated Prof Ramos because he gave me a solid foundation in Sociology and made Sociology really come alive. He guides class discussions truly well, gives well thought out lectures, and plays movies appropriate to class topics. He expects respect and displays it in return.
Professor Ramos is very knowleageble and he shares his passion with us in an amazing way. He encourages you to think critically and analyze situations in a cool way by assigning assignments where we analyze music lyrics relating to social issues, we analyze articles and also watch videos that challenges us to think deeper about our society.
Wonderful teacher who teaches from his heart
Professor Ramos is the reason I changed my major to Sociology. I have two semesters left at CSUEB. Prof Ramos has a unique ability to connect with his students. Bottom line, he gets it. I would highly encourage you to take his class. You will not be judged on your beliefs and will be treated with, humor, kindness, and respect....
Easiest class I have taken in my entire life. Almost impossible to get below an A if you show up to class. On the first day of class, he told us that he is making the course difficult because people said it was easy in the past. If this is difficult, I can't imagine how easy it was before. Ramos is a super guy, but this isn't a college-level course
Awesome professor for teaching Societal Problems! Prof Ramos is funny but still demands respect and participation. Class attendance is a must. He does make you write two bluebooks full of essays for the midterm and final but gives you the topics beforehand. You can print his lectures before class so you don't have to write notes. Def recommend!
Easy A!! Needed to knock out another GE course, so I took this. Professor is a real gem. Used online textbook sparingly, short hw assignments usually in class, quiz + midterm + quiz + final, make sure you know how to write an essay. You really just need to attend class to get an A, its that simple. Awesome guy, take his class!
Professor Ramos knows how to take a lecture class and turn it into a fun learning experience. You can't use your notes on test, but as long as you pay close attention in class and ask questions you'll pass the class. He has a great personality that'll liven up any class no matter the time of day. He doesn't like it when students pack early though.
BEST professor ever, he is so fun and I loved learning with him. I love how laid back he is, and his ability to connect with students. He is very strict on late work, but i miss that class. He is the reason I changed my major to sociology!! you won't regret this class. Oh! and also met my best friend through this class :)
Pretty straight forward assignments on lectures, text, and documentaries. Very clear grading style. Does not accept late work. You need to be disciplined because he is not a fan of excuses or repeating himself. He was willing to meet and email throughout the semester. He could have graded things sooner. Pretty moderate work load.
Took him twice and it is clear that he loves sociology and WANTS all his students to succeed and pass his class. So funny with lectures, but also makes his students think with fruitful discussions. Also, gives LOTS of extra credit which you should DO because they are not boring and helps your grade A LOT.
He is pretty strict on deadlines but the work is manageable and not too difficult. Great teacher :)
This professors work wasn't hard, but do not take this class if you have other priorities. He will not accept late work period. I ended the class just needing 0.02% and he did not round up. Wouldnt recommend. He had a god complex.
Ramos is a chill teacher. Makes good lecture videos. No quizzes, just 2 midterms and one final. Grade relies heavily on these tests, make sure to study for them. I don't like that he makes each writing assignment have the same minimum word count as an essay would. Besides that he's an okay teacher.
Professor Ramos was so amazing. As an older student he was very helpful and got back to me very quickly. He does not take late work, or incomplete work but is very fair with his grading. If you take notes and read the required material (text book is free) then you will do just fine in the class. He is very personable and is very organized.
Cool guy but an ok prof. I think he would be better in person. One weekly meeting where he goes over quizzes and talks about future work. A good amount of hw but all very easy and somewhat interesting. If you want an easy A but want to ease into learning Socio this guy is perfect. Quizzes and tests were all easy if you watched his videos.
Professor Ramos was great his style of teaching is pretty intense, he has a strict grading criteria and does not accept late work, but you can tell that he wants his students to succeeded, a lot of reading with the textbook and papers for the assignments. Their were short writing assignments and the 2 midterms were test and the final was a paper.
In person, Ramos is very funny and is a pretty good professor, but most of the actual course is presented online in his boring prerecorded video lectures (40-60 mins each). Just about every week you are assigned to take notes on a textbook chapter (20+ pages) and his video lectures. His tests are pretty easy being open book, open note, and online.
His class is incredibly easy. Hybrid course, 4 exams online open note+textbook, textbook is free. Attendance matters but its once a week, dont miss because you wont be able to make up those points unless you do extra credit. He is a genuinely nice person and is pretty understanding. Take him if you can!
Professor Ramos is super funny and makes the class interesting. I would 100% recommend him. Tests are open notes so as long as you take notes it's an easy A. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
He is fine. Basically he has lecture video, and few AS, QZ, MD, and notecheck. Notecheck is you have to submit the note about lecture video. it should be HANDWRITTEN. you have to write every single words from the lecture. I wrote only important things I thought but didn't get point. Some of the test question was confusing. he's not great professor.
Professor Ramos was nice and understanding but very strict about his course. Expect to be watching a lecture video (approx. ranging from 15 mins to 1 hour each video) and taking HANDWRITTEN notes for each individual slide. Three exams total, 2 midterms and 1 final. I didn't really learn much, but an okay course if you're willing to put in work.
Professor Ramos does a wonderful job of inspiring me to think outside of the box when it comes to sociology. His classes are lecture-heavy, but as long as you take good notes, you'll do great on his exams. He recognizes students who put in the work and show up to class. Participate, show up to class, and take good notes and you'll do great.
This is my second time taking professor ramos, I took him for 120 and now 121 as a pre-nursing major these courses don't really stress me out. His tests can be tricky but as long as you take notes you will be fine, and skim the textbook. This is an easy A with minimal effort that needs to be put in.
LOVE HIM! this man makes sociology something you can understand because he relates it to the real world, he also incorporates his love of music into his lectures which I love. If you show him, that you want to be there and put in effort, he's got you.
Professor Ramos never fails to keep students engaged in class with his straightforward lectures and funny jokes. Quizzes are mainly on Canvas, and are super easy as long as you take careful notes. Make sure to come to every class because units go by quickly. Amazing taste in music.
Six week online class. A lot of nit taking but easy class . Professor Ramos was very funny during his lector videos
Pr. Ramos is great! He was always happy to help. Every lecture he had some jokes for us. You need to participate in discussions or you gonna lose points. All topics were very interesting to learn about! He taught me how to use my critical thinking.
This guy is basically the goat of teaching. Probably going to be the easiest class you've taken in your life if you do it in person. You just copy notes that he has on the board, watch a few videos he shows in class, then take a 3 question quiz each week. Tests are open notes.
The class consist of a lecture video, lecture quiz and uploading notes from lecture slides every two weeks. There was about 3 other easy written assignments, 2 midterms, and a final exam. The professor is chill, I would recommend taking him for all the busy students, he is a understanding professor and does not assign a ton amount of work.
He is so fricken funny and makes his classes very entertaining. You need to turn in scans of your notes and he doesn't post the lecture slides, so attendance is mandatory. He is very direct about what he wants you to write down, and what will be on the test. His lectures also involve world events and his love for Hip-Hop.
Overall great Professor and great class. You can tell he really cares about what he is teaching. The only down side is he requires you to take handwritten notes that are graded (for completion). He does make it easy and gives you plenty of time on slides. Other than that its great. All his tests are open note and he does want his students to pass.
He is an okay professor Im taking him as a summer class. there are chapter quizzes after each chapter usually 3 pts and 5 minute limit. No retakes no answer shown. Is a little difficult when asking clarifying questions. Is organized with what the assignments are and when they are due he as well makes announcement for certain assignments.
Soc120 was amazing with Prof Ramos! It was asynchronous, but his lectures were engaging and the workload was light. Take him for an easy A! Just beware of his no-late policy, which is reasonable given how little work there is.
Extremely easy class when taken in person--couldn't recommend him enough. Super entertaining teacher, loved his lectures. The first half of the semester was just listening to him lecture and taking notes, then in the second half we did more class participation, watching movies, and a final group project.
Professor Ramos is one of the best professors on campus. Tests are easy as long as you study you will be all good. He gives you a list of questions that will be on the exam. Just make sure to read through the chapters and do the section quizzes for each chapter. His lectures are interesting and he is hilarious. You will not get bored in his class.
Based on the quality of his lectures and lack of insight, I thought this class would be an easy A. It turns out he uses his class as an opportunity to unfurl a barrage of unfunny jokes and is obsessed with seeming relatable and chill. Not only is he not either of those things, but this professor is petty and uses class time to complain.
Professor Ramos keeps the class fun and engaging with his straightforward lectures and great sense of humor. Quizzes are easy as long as you take notes, and Unstuck AI was a huge help for study prep.
Professor Ramos is very funny and easy to approach. His grading criteria and class is a bit hard from how strict his expectations are on his assignments. Beware of studying and note taking a lot.
Great professor! His lecture slides are interesting and he does his best to keep the class engaged by adding some funny things here and there. He does require you to take notes every class by hand and he grades them at the end of the semester. Quizzes are easy and straightforward. Overall great professor, and I'd take him again if I had the chance!
Professor Ramos has very engaging lectures; this was never a class I felt bored in. He does require handwritten notes for every lecture that are all uploaded at the end of the semester as a portfolio assignment. Exams are extremely easy.
He's a really cool professor just beware of all the note taking but it wasn't too bad. It was kinda annoying that if you ever missed a day you would get a "0" so attendance matters!!! But other than that he was really cool and funny prof. He always made jokes and kept the class fun, engaged with the students. def recommend
Lectures are pretty heavy and portfolio w hand written notes assignment due at the end of the semester so make sure u show up for every lecture. Quizzes are not that difficult but if u don't study it might be a lil challenging but u should be fine. He made the class fun and had few class projects. Some of his rules were a lil strict but he's cool.
Yea if you got this class, you're done for. Notes are heavy. No paraphrasing, partial credit, extra credit, or redos. IF YOU DO ANYTHING WRONG ON ANY ASSIGNMENTS, YOU WILL GET A 0. You will forget basic writing skills because he wants everything to be done a certain way. His lessons are note heavy, yet you don't even take notes. YOU COPY EVERYTHING
Don't be fooled by the reviews like I was. Ramos is not a good educator, and is rather self-absorbed. The notes were tedious and more a test of how far his students will go to appease him. I hadn't learned a single thing in his class and if I had, it wouldn't have been anything of value.
This was genuinely one of the best professors I have ever taken in DVC. Professor Ramos is effortlessly funny, cares about all his students and always makes sure his students are enjoying his class. He is by far the best professor you could ever take at this college. If you're looking to take Sociology, you absolutely HAVE TO take it with him.
Easy A? Yes. But Prof Ramos needs a serious refresher on effective teaching pedagogy. Expects students to do the busy work of taking handwritten notes, with trick questions on tests meant to ensure you copy down EVERYTHING on the slides, yet he hasn't made the effort to re-record lectures from the pandemic. Tries too hard to be cool.
online class, video is pre-recorded, but he is super fun. a lot lot lot lot lot hand writing required. If you want the point, you need to handwrite all his slides. But generally, it is a very easy class.
Professor Ramos was my first experience in the sociology field and i'm so glad I took him. He is very funny and tries to keep up with the current jokes in our generation and use them in lectures to keep the class interacted. His tests are easy if you study off the study guide he provides. He also offers a good amount of extra credit.
chill professor, he's really lenient. there is a lot of note taking that is mandatory, so if ur not into that then don't take the class cus it can be tiresome. he offers a lot of extra credit even on the 4 quizzes during the semester. he gives a good study guide so it should be really easy.
