Crazy Teacher. He loves his job and loves to teach. It shows. He really cares. Will repeat himself a billion times over and not care at all. His tests reflect what you studies, not what you can figure out on the spot.
Godwin's laugh is the best ever! He cracks me up! He's a good teacher...but sometimes his accent is hard to understand.
His class is really easy if you do what he says. Study lots and you'll do fine. He hilarious, every class he has a new laugh.
Godwin is so friendly and funny. He goes exactly by the book. I recommend pre-reading the material before coming to the corresponing lecture because sometimes its impossible to decipher what he is saying.

godwin is most likely one of the smartest in the chemistry department he should start teaching upper level!! He's the greatest teacher ever.

I can't for the life of me understand why everyone thinks he is so great. Essentially taking his course was like learning by correspondence. A terrible, lousy instuctor. Remember, nice and funny doesn't equal clarity and comprehension.
When I pay more than $500 for a course, I expect more than power point reproductions of the text. Godwin is the worst prof ever. He shouldn't be teaching. What's with the shortage of good Chem instructors at UCFV?
He's a great guy and is obviously very knowledgeable in his field, but he expects a lot out of his students. His notes are straight out of the text so there's no point in coming to class.
I used to love Chem until Godwin came along. I don't like I understood a word he said.
He's a little difficult to understand at times but when he refers to himself in the third person, it's quite hilarious.

he's a great prof. he knows his stuff inside out, and his classes are fun, he always uses different examples to try to help you learn the material better.. sometimes it was hard to understand his english tho, but overall is a great prof.

very high expectations, covers material other profs wont even touch at this level. Very quantitative and not very qualitative (which it should be at this level). Wouldnt recommend if you can avoid it.
Godwin's a great professor--his exams are fair and most of his 10 mark open ended questions are straight from the text book, and other open eneded questions he goes over in class, like 20 times so you can predict his exam questions. Will definantly take another chem class if he is teaching!!!!!!!!!
He's really smart and has an excellent teaching style. The exams are pretty hard.. and he covers mucho material. Too much, perhaps; it's a lot to remember on exams. And there's no assignments, the only marks come from tests.

Yes his tests are hard if you dont study enough, but if you put the effort in that you know you should, Godwin is great! He is very caring and funny, and he actually give a rip about his students. Thanks Godwin, it was a privilege to be in your class!
Hard to understand and not very helpful. Comes from US so he thinks hes great but he SUCKS.
As a person Godwin is great.Class is fun.He really wants you to learn. Knows his chem up and down. I found that it was hard to know what to study for the tests. Alot of what i studied ended up being a waste of time.He can be hard to understand.
Just a lot of lectures, exams have been quite pressed for time, gave us a make-up exam for the first midterm. Good guy but geez a little more would help everyone.
Godwin knows what he is talking about - and he's not afraid to teach material far beyond the curriculum. A great choice if you're looking to understand chenistry. If you just want to know the bare minimium necessary to get away from chemistry then this guy is not for you. : )

Godwin is a good prof. His exams are difficult, but they weren't unexpected. He enjoys what he's doing, and that's obvious. Just ask him to do the "water molecule dance." The class does take a lot of studying to get a good mark, but it's not at all impossible. There were several A+'s in my class.

During the most part of his lectures he was easy to understand, but he would get excited frequently and start doing demos using himself as a symbol of something I didn't catch and wave his arms around symbolizing something, meanwhile everyone would laugh laugh either at or with him (I couldn't tell which). Terrible at answering questions.
There is a lot of material to cover, so he goes fairly quickly through them. Important to study on your own to figure out what's going on. KNOW the reactions (eg. X + Y = ?). Know them inside and out and be able to do them quickly, since a significant portion of the test is based on this. Easiest lab write-ups ever.

Extremely hard to understand, very hard marker with tests. If you don't know you're rxns, you're screwed. I studied for 4 days straight for his 2nd test and got around 40%. Goes through the material way to fast. Keeps saying it's easy, yeah maybe for some one who's done it for the past 20 years. Doesn't grasp that everyone learns differently!
Godwin is a very hard teacher. He goes through material very quickley and the tests are super hard. But he is very enthusiastic about what he teaches, and he is a very nice person. Good teacher if you have a LOT of time to put into studying.
Worst prof ever!! material was fairly easy to understand but the tests were so ridiculously long that barely anyone finished. Very rude will sigh and roll his eyes when asked questions in class. This is the worst class I have ever attended, but only bacause of Godwin Choy teaching. Our class average was 47%. He really didn't know what he was teaching half the time, always jumped around and had absolutely no patience when you did poorly. Would never reccomend him as a teacher. Overall worst experience with a bad teacher I have ever had.
Wow, where to begin. This guy has NO idea where he left off and what he has or hasn't tought. Just ridiculous. He is never clear on what is on exams or not and what he tells you to study isn't on it and what you "weren't" supposed to study is on it. Avoid this guy if you like passing your courses :)
Godwin is great, take his class, dont be scared of people who failed due to their pre-dispositions about Godwin. He is the nicest and funnies prof that you can take.

A fun guy with lots of good analagies to help understand abstract concepts. However, he is an unfair and extremely hard marker. Get a better bang (grade) for your buck and get an easier prof.
ok, he's got an accent so do pay attention to his godwin-to-english, otherwise you may or may not understand him but also some times you can find some humor. he is strict & a very hard marker but he is a good prof who likes to have a good laugh in class

Godwin is one of the best profs at UFV, and I think others will avoid him because of some false claims of other students. If you want a prof that you can talk to and get help from, take Godwin, if you want a "know-it-all" prof that treats you dumb, go with Edward. Edward is nice, GODWIN IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When a student asked a question Godwin threw his papers on his desk in disgust. He really went over the line when he told a student his question was stupid!
I have no idea what these people below are talking about, godwin is the worst prof I have ever had and I like chemistry to! He thinks students questions are dumb and frequently rolls his eyes at u. The class avaergae is always low in his class. If you like to be assignment questions to practise, do not take his class! He wont help u to pass at all!
Godwin was a terrible teacher. He went out of his way to make students uncomfortable and awkward while he was trying to be funny. His exams were literally the most difficult exams ever, and what was worse was that you thought you did alright but then you fail. He likes to blame his mistakes on others. Save yourself the trouble. Don't take godwin!
Godwin is a terrible teacher. He is smart, but he cant teach. If you actually want to learn more than what the text book says do not have him as a teacher. He is by far the worst teach I have ever had. Not only does he not show you how to do examples, when you ask he talks down to you. He really tries to make you feel dumb.

Worst Professor through my 2 years at University so far, can't understand a word he says. Big waste of money.
First of all, I didn't understand what he was saying. Second, when I went to him for help, he basically ridicules you and tries to help you out but it's really not helpful. He's funny though.
Godwin is definitely an interesting character! He goes off on random tangents that are absolutely helarious. However in order to succeed in his class you cannot rely on his teaching methods at all. He races through notes, barely doing any examples. Many people get A's in his class but it is not because of Godwin, it is because they pit in a lot of effort of their own time in learning the subject, not because of Godwin.

AVOID!!! Incredibly difficult to understand, pronounces things wrong so you have no idea what he's talking about, and BRUTAL exams. Asking for help is useless, he will just say things like "do you live in a box" or "are you crazy". Worth waiting a semester for different prof!

I loved Godwin in this class, and would take it with him again in a heartbeat! I dont need to though, because I got an A! Wasnt hard either! I am a good student. I study hard, and I get good grades. He is by far the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are all over the place, and quite confusing. His English is not very good, which makes it very difficult to learn from him considering the nature of the course, and when you ask questions he practically laughs in your face.
Godwin is a wonderful professor, if you can understand his way of thinking (Chinese way). He is really smart and knowledgeable, and he can tell you almost everything about the world. I have to admit that his quizzes are horrible and scaring, but he is very kind to student. Take his course, work hard, and you will get what you reserve.

Avoid at all costs. Lectures are useless, and tests are brutal. I did all the text book review questions but couldn't even do his tests. Tests are long, and not enough time to complete. Would have rather waited a semester than take this course with him
Hard to understand and his tests are ridiculous. The class average was 41% and 49% for the midterms. Will ask you questions that are impossible to know. I dont think Godwin himself could get a good grade in this class.

Are your seriously considering taking his class? i will give you some advice, rearrange your schedule so you can take Chem 113 with another instructor or take it in a semester where you have a light load. Drop electives just to put the extra time I needed for this class. Save your GPA and run away. Class average 49% midterm doesn't that tell you?
DO NOT TAKE CHEMISTRY WITH GODWIN. Hard exams, hard to understand, hard marker, and downright rude. I'm not the only one who thinks so: save your money, time, and GPA, and wait a semester for another proff.

Worst prof I've ever had! Teaching involves him summarizing the textbook, and he is difficult to understand. Super unfair, he doesn't even give partial marks on his tests. Our notes didn't even get posted half the time, and he's really unclear about when quizzes are and what he expects you to do for class

Godwin is definitely the worst prof I have ever had. The main reason that I disliked him so much is that he was entirely unapproachable and rude to anyone who asked him questions or didn't get the material instantly. If students asked questions, he refused to answer them. Constantly called students dumb, laughed at them, etc. Avoid!
Hilarious prof!! If you go into his class/lab with a negative attitude towards him from reviews, you're going to find reasons to not like him. Had him for lab only in chem214. I asked him lecture questions often and he was very helpful/willing to share his knowledge. This class does take effort so it is in your best interest to seek help from him.
Godwin is excellent because he really prepares you for higher level university courses and forces you to think outside the box and practically. Whenever you need help, (which you will because it is OChem!) showing up to his office hours is the best thing because he helps you very well and clarifies concepts! Definitely take him, he's awesome!
Godwin really does not seem to care about his students and their success, other than by constantly berating them for not studying enough and having expectations that are much too high. Like seriously, such low midterm averages should maybe tell you that something is wrong with your teaching style! Expect to have to work hard for a half decent mark!
Reading the textbook is three times as productive than actually attending his lectures. They're practically useless, and the concepts he teaches are so basic that they barely apply to his stupendously difficult midterms. He's not a bad guy, just a horrendous teacher. You'll struggle in this course, even as an exceptional student in chemistry.
Godwin is a funny guy but I never really learned anything even though I went to all his lectures. I suggest learning the material by yourself because that's how I managed to pass this course. He's not a bad guy but I don't think he can teach the material well. Midterms were hard but final exams were fair (boosted my mark up)
Had Godwin for the labs, he was really nice and helpful throughout them all
Worst prof at UFV, handsdown. There's a reason his section is the only one with space available. Take an extra semester to avoid him, your GPA will thank you. I ended up doing ochem at SFU and had a much better experience.
Would not recommend this professor. Intimidates students the first week of class scaring them off that Ochem will be hard. Doesn't encourage them, makes it seem even more daunting and not a very organized, clear prof. Sets them up for failure by constantly mentioning how hard Ochem is and this is one of the main reasons why he fails as a prof.
Godwin is really lazy and sits in the front and never helps you during labs and student only asks the lab tech questions. When you ask him a question he makes you feel stupid so don't bother asking him questions. Then during labs if by mistake you do something wrong he makes fun of you in the front of whole class so i would suggest not taking him.
