I've taken just about everything he teaches, and Aced all 7 or 8 courses. He prepared me for a very competitive Uni in SoCal, so I think he is realistic in his demands and expectations.

I found him to be a difficult teacher who is very opinionated. Some of the multiple choice questions on the exams can be tricky and there is a lot of material to read just for one exam. If you can avoid taking him, try to.

One of the most passionate teachers I have ever had. I enjoyed this class very much, and would take other casses with him again besides the fact that his tests are very hard, and you are expected to remember a HELL of a lot of information to succeede on any of them.

This teacher was very good. I learned a lot. He is the most passionate teacher i have ever met. He has a wonderful teaching method full of impersonations and u will never get bored. U will not only learna bunch of dates and facts but U will see the other side of American history.

I had this teacher the summer before my senior year in high school. He knows what he's teaching and is very enthusiastic about his work. I was getting a B+ but I asked him how I could better write my essays. He gave me really good advice and I passed with an A.

Very enthusiastic and fun lecturer. The exams are on the difficult side. If you read the textbook and attend all of the lectures `you will do fine. The S.I. is extremely helpful.I got an A and did not have to study an extaordinary amount of time. I did go to class and I did read every assigned chapter. The class is fun and challenging.

Gordon is a great professor. He is really into the subject and his enthusiasm shows in his lectures. He makes the subject interesting and will give you help if you need it. His tests are difficult however I don't think they are unfair. If you study it is possible to get a good grade.

Gorden is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. Dont get me wrong not easy class what so ever. If you want to do well, get ready to work and work hard because his essays are very hard. In three classes I only aced one test. But if you are a History or Poli Sci Major he is the teacher you have to take....no doubt about it. Honestly, he's a funny guy and all, but stay away. If you like kissing a**, then he might be the perfect teacher for you, but if your not that type, dont expect him to know your name. Worst thing about this class is that you have no clue where your standing in the class until you actually receive the grades. Don't recommend.

The guy is very passionate about his job and teaches with passion, but he drifts away from the topic and starts to talk about other stuff. I mean if u r a history major i wouldnt recommend him.his tests are very hard especially the fianl. He writes messy and talkes fast and sometimes makes jokes to make the class exciting but its not.

He is definitely my favorite teacher at GCC. He makes everything interesting. Notes are clear and you know what's going to be on the tests ahead of time. The tests can be difficult if you don't study, though. I think he's great.

This class is not American history- it's Gordon's history. Lecture & tests are based on his own biases & radical views. Be prepared that if you have a different opinion you will be mocked & belittled. Tests are very hard- 1/2 essay & mult choice. Must read bk & go to SI. Majority of students got C's & below. 2/3 of class dropped out by the end.

This teacher was really great. Someone said he is anti-American but thats right wing bull. He wasnt that hard when I took him in the winter. I got a B and I didnt read much at all really. Listen to his lectures and you will do good. I highly recomend his class its intresting and fun.

Mr. Alexandre was a great teacher. The lectures are interesting, he's really lively, and he tries to get the class involved in the disscusion.Make no mistake, its not an easy class, but an A is not impossible. Overall it has been my favorite class at Glendale.

He teaches his own version of history. If you disagree with him call him on it and he usually shuts up. For his tests be sure to mention specific events and examples in the essays. He's fair as long as you structure your arguments well, but he doesn't know much about history other than what he thinks should have happened.

I'm currently taking his class now. It's all lecture, 2 hrs of him talking. So it gets boring since there's no interaction w/the class. Tons of reading assigned, so I just emailed him a simple question asking for direction on what to focus on. He replies, "I already told the class. See me later if you cant remember." Rude. Teacher not suggested.

Passionate about subject matter. Gives inspiring Marxist interpretations of things. Has students post class notes on WebCT, so attendance is less than necessary, though many people can't take notes worth a sh*t. Said attendance wasn't mandatory but then called me out on skipping all the time in front of the class. Then I got an A anyway. Ha ha.

i think that he is a great professor! ive never met any teacher who enjoyed his work alot and just love to teach! he explains everything well to the class. his tests are not hard..all you have to do is READ the material. dear god...all i have to say is good luck if you're planing on taking this class. If staying home on the weekend and reading 200 pages for an exam is your idea of fun then by all means go ahead. Requires very detailed essays with multiple choice tests. Theres no bs-ing your way through this guys class. ONLY FOR DIE HARD HISTORY BUFFS, REALLY!!!

Illogical approach to grading. Unreasonable expectations. Multiple choice taken from unassigned reading materials. Obviously suffers from control issues. It's possible that he does not read essays, as he grades on style more rigidly than historic content. Advice, stay away, he will make you hate your life.

The worst historian possible. Grades historical essays based on English writing skills. Hey! Isn't there a subject called HISTORIOGRAPHY which specifies that the historical essays can be written in every possible way? For the historian, not knowing where to look for the thesis in the essay is unacceptable. Don't take his class, it's waist of time.

He is an excellent teacher with an incredible knowledge of history. He grades very fairly and his essay questions are very fun to write about if you have studied the material. His multiple choice are incredibly fair and quite easy if you have completed the reading and attended the lectures. Take notes, study, and most of all show up to class.

WOW! the hardest class i've EVER taken in my life. Tests= 1/2 scantron 1/2 essay. only lectures in class for essay. you must read up to 200 pgs per test. Office hours are at 6am, hes very left & always shows it. hes an interesting teacher and i learned a lot, but his GRADING is REDICULOUS! i suggest him ONLY if youre taking just 1 class a semester

Even though his class is hard, he teaches well so if you have a good note it will definately help you on your test. He doesn't just give you the grade you want, but you have to earn it. You only have to have 84% of total grade to get an A because of his extra credit (4% of total grade) and because all you need is 88% to get an A. 88-4 makes it 84%

I wanted to quite college because of him. He lectures the whole class but nothing that's on the test. Essays must be EXACTLY his way or else it's wronge. When I went to him for help he acts like you arent understanding the work. He tells you nothing that you need to study. You have to guess what to study for on tests. Over 1/2 d class drops.

Gordon is the best teacher at GCC (in my opinion). He's very clear on what he requires, sticks to the syllabus, unless he starts ranting about the time he was arrested for protesting in the 60s. He's very entertaining, and extremely helpful. Do the reading and take good notes, believe me you'll need them. Great class!

Tries to relate to kids but very prejudice. When strongly pressured to back up his theories he changes the subject with a diversionary counterattack like "you're looking at it thru. western teachings." Example:don't you dare question his hypocrisy about grading or skewed bias,he'll single you out and hurl insults at you hoping to get 1 up on you.

This teacher doesnt care about his students.When he gives lectures, much of the time they're not thorough.He goes off on a tangent-a lot.He talksAboutHislifein1960s or wastes time talkingabout an unrelated subject.His handwriting is illegible, when he writes notes its chickenscratch.On top of all this he leaves 4 Vegas b4 a majortest ON a classday.

He's a tough instructor. Probably he's too much for someone who has taken the class just for general education requirement and specifically for someone who is in science major. However, if you are serious and want to be challenged, take him and you will be forced to work really hard in order to get B.

I didn't agree with some of his 'interesting' world views, and I wish he didn't share as many of his political opinions during lecture. The class is graded fairly, but do the reading and go to class because the tests are hard. Not my favorite class, but he did an adequate job of keeping people awake.

Its hard to get a good grade in the class because your only graded for 4 tests. That's all your grade is based on. Lecture is interesting at first, but gets boring after an hour. Extremely intelligent, could talk for hours. The notes taken in class will be very helpful for the difficult essay portion of the test. 25 question mult choice is hard.

i hated this class. he tried to be funny and at times i guess he was. but all his lectures and notes had nothing to do with he's super hard tests. there was no reviews except for the final. even after reading the book, its still difficult to pass the test with C . take a diff. prof .

He is a great teacher, nice guy, and the class is easy. This isn't a class where you get a A for just showing up, but this IS NOT A HARD CLASS!!! If you can only get a C in this class, then you really need a tutor cause this is a community college, and this is a easy class

I had a hard time with this class. Its not an easy class but as long as you do what he is asking you should pass. His tests are 25 MC and an essay. 50/50% to get your final grade. I am glad I passed this class and at times I wasn't sure. He taught me alot though including how to study and use the book. Thinks hes funny, usually isnt. Left Leaning..

Personally he's pretty cool, but I'm warning you he's a tough grader! I had to work hard to get a B for the five-week session. Pay attention to his lectures, take notes, and attend every class. If you're hoping to "just get by," then he's not the instructor for you.

hillarious. theres no way you can't pay attention to him - his lectures are very fun and he makes it easy to understand. he also relies a lot on you reading the text when it comes to tests - which he grades VERY hard!!! his lecture is only 25% of whats really on the tests!very very nice/funny guy, though. do not take if you are republican

He really expects you to read alot, when it comes to his lectures he's soo dam boring...i could hardly stay awake at all, hes not helpful and gets pissed off at EVERYONE when other people dont show up...which is so not fair..He spends pretty much the whole semester talking about himself.. if you miss one test your grade will go down like two grades

He is really passionate about the subject, but he expects a lot when you are taking his tests (which is all writing). The topics on the test are very broad and if you miss one point of what happened, he docks you points. I would recommend him if you are willing to put in a lot of study time and really enjoy the subject.

Be prepared! Read, take notes and record the lectures.He gives you study sheets and tells you how to study terms. I did what he said and I got a high grade in the class. The lectures are not boring and he keeps things fun. The tests can be tricky, and you have to write a full essay in class (essay questions on the handouts). Great GCC professor!!

I took Gordon Alexandre for Spring 2010 and found him entertaining during his lectures. At times he would go off on tangents but that just make the class more interesting. He grades difficult and does expect alot of reading of the text, but if you pay attention, read, and take thorough notes; you will do good.

He is an amazing teacher who actually wants you to learn instead of vomiting up things you read in the book. Use your brain and your opinion, right or wrong, and he will be fair. Really makes you interested in what he is teaching

He keeps lectures and material interesting. Your grade is determined basically by just the tests. The lectures and notes you take from lectures helps a lot for his essay questions. The reading material is more for the multiple choice, but the lecture helps too. Keep up with the reading and what he's covering in class. Use his study guide well.

i honestly love this guy!! he's hillarious as hell and there's no way you won'tget interested. He's really into the class and gives you a better prespective of things. I really enjoyed it this term. Its not really hard just do your reading take notes and dont forget about the flash cards...they do help!!

hilarious! he is unlike any other teacher. he has lived through most of the history he's teaching so he has some awesome insight on each subject. hes very funny and unpredictable. tests are not bad if you really understand the terms. use lots of facts and details for the writing portions. (if you're a slacker do the ex credit assignments early on.)

Really great guy, he's so hilarious. Take lots of notes and pay attention. His tests are mostly essays and some scantron. I really like mr. alexander he's honestly really cool.

WOW! i regret taking this class! as hard as it was i decided i could actually take on the challenge, i was obviously WRONG! If you're the type that will be able to learn from just listening and not reading the book or lectures then take him.. if you're the type thats going to zone out (cuz hes boring) and write stupid notes then AVOID him! trust me

I agree with the comments that he is very difficult. If history is not your major, do not take him. His class requires A LOT of time and his essays are ridiculous. He is a tough grader. Find someone easier. I don't think anyone gets an A in his class. I am a straight "A" student and I received a "C" I regret taking him.

Professor Alexandre is a great teacher! I admit this class was really tough and he expects a lot from his students, but its mostly because hes so passionate about the subject he teaches and expects all of us to feel the same. Hardest B i ever earned but his lectures were fun and interesting, so paying attention will never be a problem!

If you are not a history major, you will find it difficult to do well in this class. He is very passionate in his teaching but his grading is unrealistic. He expects his students to know as much as he does (unrealistic). The test are also set up for students to fail. I'm a straight A student and have never had to work so hard for a B.

Professor Alexandre is a great professor! He's very funny and passionate about his subject. Make sure to take very detailed notes and do ALL of the readings. His tests aren't easy and they require a lot of writing, you have to use your time wisely if you want to finish! If you study hard and invest time into the class you should do great!

Gordon is a really cool man..very funny- but really hard. He grades extremely tough- and expects you to know as much as he does- (to get an A.) He is very opinionated, and extremely intelligent, which makes you getting an "A" very difficult. I studied my butt off, and got a "C." I kind of gave up towards the end- but i was getting a low B high C.

Professor Alexandre is the best history teacher I ever had. You have to go to class and take notes, and his lectures are really interesting and you will not fall asleep. The downside is he grades tough. You have to go to class and read the book. He is about to retired so take him now!

Took him in Sum 12' for Soc Science 132 and I got an A. I learned so much from him. He made the topics easy to understand. Go to class, write down everything he says, and do the study guides. He has essays on the test that YOU prepare in ADVANCE for and you'll do great.

I'll try to be neutral of Pros. Gordon as much as possible. I took his Hist. 118 for Spring semester and i have to say that was my favorite class. His presentations are well developed and gives the class a study guide weeks before the test. I manage to get a C in the class but i was struggling the class for a B. Be cautious if you take Gordon

His classes are amazing and he is SO funny, SO real. he clearly states that HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOUR POLITICAL VIEWS AS LONG AS YOU CAN PROVE IT AND BACK IT UP WITH FACTS IN YOUR ESSAYS. the only people who don't like his classes are slacker students who don't know what a real college class is like! be prepared to read and critically THINK.

Professor Alexandre really knows his stuff, he keeps his lectures very interesting and really wants students to participate and engage. Not the easiest class, but learned a lot. Do not take this class if you are looking to get an easy A…slackers beware!

He makes class very interesting and very relevant. I'm a biology major not into gov or econ but I look forward to his class because i could use it in everyday life and because he's HILARIOUS. He gives a study guide that outlines his tests EXACTLY. Only gives extra credit if the class needs it. There is a lot of reading but I don't mind.

Test are too diffucult. He once boasted his entire summers session class failed. Yes I learned alot, but needs to change test format. Not enough time to write all those essay. Also grade is based on just 3 test plus the final. Cool dude though, think he is retiring after this semester

His lectures are fine, though rather very one-sided for many people's tastes (not mine). His tests are very tough. Even if you know the subject well, it is hard to write three essays in the 2 hours he gives for tests on it, and he grades them very harshly. This is also the only criteria of your grade. Not a professor for people looking for As.
