He is a great teacher. Good books, good tests, challenging but worth the money for the school!

Babst is organized and clear. His assignments actually promote learning and he knows what he teaches. Many teachers at Chapman try to fend away students' questions and requests for help, but he is not afraid to do so. Well worth it to take his classes.
Babst is a pleasure to have as a teacher, and keeps political science very interesting. He has a very positive attitude, and his class is a great learning enviornment.
Great lectures, full of wit and brilliance. Any class taken from him will provide you with knowledge that you will use for your entire life.
Hes got a great sense of humor and huge ego. Hes a Harvard graduate whose published a few books...go figure.
Good information, boring presentation. His POSC 100 class is a sleeper.
Good class, fairly easy. Boring.
Easy and not too much homework.
Good teacher. Very easy going and understanding. Always willing to help students. Very nice man.
Professor Babst is great. He's friendly and approachable if you have a question, and explains everything very clearly. The readings are interesting, and the assignments are clear and not too difficult, but not so easy that you'll fall asleep doing them.
Very good teacher and makes a very tedious subject very interesting.
I love Professor Babst! He is an awesome, smart and funny professor with great lectures that are so interesting. There are a lot of books to read but the books are cool and his lectures really help you understand them. He is cute too.
The best prof. I have ever had! I have taken over five courses with the man. He has a humor that a few can understand, but he very smart and affective. Just sit close to the front to you can hear him.
A very interesting class, the concepts are very easy to grasp if you pay attention to lectures and do the reading. Babst is a great lecturer and his exams are not difficult
Pretty good teacher, he's funny but sometimes his class can be boring. The tests are fairly hard but the other stuff is easy.
Great teacher, prensents unbiased views and gets you to think. Great guy and understanding of any problems you might have. Some of the texts assigned were a bit heavy, but still good.
He really feels the subject matter and puts it into terms that are understandable to someone who does not yet have a Phd. He is an excellent professor
good teacher, learned alot about political science and didn't hate it too much
Very interesting class. Gives great lectures and notes. VERY helpful. Loves it when you ask/participate in class. Really nice and intelligent. 2 midterms, 1 final,2 papers. papers are easy. exams are okay, just study notes. quite a bit of reading, but it is interesting. he is super funny. TAKE HIM!
The class really shows what causes terrorism and is necessary for any poli sci student to understand the politics that are running the world today. Babst does a great job at walking you through this tough information. Make sure to study for his tests!
Lousy Professor! Don't waste your time with his classes.
Very interesting class. Good lectures, cares about students, tries to keep your attention on what's not always a fun subject.

Really nice. Easy tests. Super prepared and knows everything about each subject he teaches. But he made me want to fall asleep and makes jokes that aren't really funny. At least he's trying!
Awsome teacher! He really cares about the students. He challages on all levels but is there to help every step of the way.
Wow! What can I say about Babst? This guy is a true scholar in his field. Unlike most other professors of his type, he doesn't make himself scarce and is always there to talk and listen to students. His lectures are so clear and concise. He never lets his personal political leanings interfere with lectures. Highly recommended!
He has great humor if you watch for it. Some people do not catch his humor, but when you do, it's hilarious
He's very passionate about his subject, and he makes really good points. It's mostly a lecture class, so it gets a bit boring, but if you actually listen the information is pretty interesting. Tests are short and easy if you take notes, and he's a really nice guy.
Extremely easy class. You don't even have to pay attention or do the readings; just find the answers when he gives you the study guides for the tests and you'll be fine. Babst is nice and he's there to help if you need it, but the class is VERY BORING. If you're looking for an easy FFC and you're fine with it being boring, this class is for you.
Classes are just lectures and notes, no homework except 3 semester-long assignments and 1 term paper due at the end. Exam study guides are very helpful, definitely NEED to read the books to do well on them. You don't need to go to class, lectures are posted on blackboard and don't really help. Just do the study guides.
Just try to listen in class. He's very nice and for an FFC, it was appropriately easy. Randomly funny, if you're paying attention.
Babst is so cute and adorable. He is a genius professor and he has the best jokes ever. TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!
moderate grader, but pretty hard to get an A
Great guy. Class can be boring at times but he is very willing to help during office hours. I would definitely recommend taking him.
SOOOOOOOO boring. switch out if possible. no need to go to class just get the study guide. 3 tests per semester and 3 writing assignments. if you want to do well on the tests (which are all essays) make sure to write A LOT!
You have to buy like 6 books for this class. And you use all of them. He knows what he's talking about it, but he's pretty boring. If you take notes during lecture you'll do fine on the essay tests.
Babst is such an adorable and interesting teacher. His talks are kind of goofy sometimes and he repeats himself but over all he teaches you the information and its a super easy class
A good professor. The course is pretty straightforward, read the books, he will lecture on them, and then various tests on each book which are essentially 3 free response questions. Easy course, if you listen to lecture. You don't need to read (and nobody does). Overall a nice guy and a decent course.
This is a very easy class if you do the study guide thoroughly! All of the short answer test questions are straight from it. There is little to none class discussion.
While the lectures can get dry at times, it was overall pretty interesting. Being active in the lectures really helps prepare you for the tests too. Dr. Babst is a good guy, even if he laughs at his own jokes often.
Great Professor, interesting Passionate and cares for the topics at hand. He does laugh at his own jokes.
the nicest teacher ever, tells random jokes some times sex jokes hahah listen carefully, realy loves what he teaches and teaches so well that i love him hahah not really but great teacher gonna take him again if i can funny
Dr. Babst is wonderful.Lectures are interesting and is PP, which are posted on Blackboard. He also gives study guides for the tests. The tests are matching and (3) 1 page essays. He gives 5 essays and we select 3 out of the 5 to answer. Student presentations and a paper is also required.Nice, caring and wonderful teacher. Would definitely recommend.
Babst is a good guy. Likes to discuss the subject matter and is non-confrontational when debating someone. Posts his power points on blackboard, reading isn't overwhelming, and his tests are a combination of matching terms and writing short 1 page essays. He's definitely a good choice amongst the polisci professors at chapman.
Easy Class, Easy A. I practically gives you the exam. Everything is on the powerpoint presentations, of which you can dowload. As long as you study from the powerpoints, you dont even need to buy the books. He is helpful, of course, and is a student pleaser.
Dr. Babst is amazing. His classes are interesting and controversial (which is what I like). He is also accepting of varying views.I happen to be very conservative and felt completely comfortable voicing my opinion in his class. He is crystal clear on his study guides on what will be on the test, a paper is required and three essay exams are required.
If you like theory you will enjoy his class, he is super funny and tells lots of jokes and extremely helpful. His 200 lvl classes are easier than the 300 and for the most part you take 2 tests and a final and the write like a 10 pg paper. He gives you a study guide and they are exactly like the tests. Also the more you write the better off you are.
Kind of a boring class but an easy class to get a good grade in. I barely went to the classes and still got A's on the test. He doesnt give any homework and gives you a study guide on the three tests you have. Easy class but boring all with power points.
Babst is an extremely friendly and helpful guy. The required textbooks are by him, so you know he's well-versed and knowledgeable. A challenging class focused on law and theory but very current and interesting if you participate in the discussion. Tells really funny jokes but he is so dang quiet! Hard grader; be sure to write a lot.
I took him for my FFC class and it was so boring and pointless, I just stopped going and still got A's on all my tests and essays. At the end of the semester, he dropped my 100% down to a 90% for not attending class.
He is an awesome teacher! You can tell how passionate he is about Political Science. So knowledgable and approachable. Tests were pretty easy if you studied.. He teaches well and is upfront about everything theres no reason why you shouldn't get an A! Take him!
Professor Babst is a great guy: he has a great sense of humor and he knows what he's talking about. However, class is quite boring unless you are into it, and you have to note down practically everything he says because his PowerPoints are very vague. The exams aren't very difficult though.
Professor Babst is a very nice person. However, his class is pretty boring. Tests are easy - almost all short answer! I recommend taking his class!
Dr. Babst is one of the best professors at Chapman! He's very intelligent and his lectures are interesting. Some might think he's boring because of his monotone, but if you listen to what he's actually saying he brings up some really good points. The tests are straightforward as long as you pay attention in class and the final paper is pretty easy.
Great Professor, just make sure you study the powerpoint slides for the exams.
Super nice professor. All you really need to study for the three tests and final are his power points, so don't bother buying the assigned books. He is pretty relaxed on attendance, but it would be in your best interest to show up because some of what he says in class is different from the power points, which is useful for the tests.
One of the best professors I have ever had. If it wasn't for him I would have transferred even earlier. Incredibly intelligent, eager to teach you, unbiased questions and opinions. He shows you every side of the arguments and lets you choose what's right. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, learned as much during his office hours as I did in class. Must take.
Prof. Babst is very easy going, and he does a fantastic job at getting you to understand dense political theory. He structures his classes to leave room for a lot of discussion. Just make sure to speak up! Your class will get very boring very quickly if everyone just sits in silence when he asks questions.
He is a hard teacher. He uses powerpoints but his tests are mostly based off of what he says and what's in the book. He has a very monotone voice so he can be boring to listen to sometimes but the good thing is he usually lets you out early. He only has 3 tests and that makes up the majority of your grade and they're not that easy either.
I really liked having professor babst. He's an awesome person who loves what he teaches. He is one of the best teachers I have had at chapman, and I do not like a lot of professors at this university. At this point, I've taken two classes with him and if you listen in class, you should be solid in my opinion.
My favorite professor I have ever had. Very knowledgable well beyond the scope of what is expected from a professor. Very kind and tells you everything you need to know for the test (if you listen closely). Able to answer any question you can possibly have. Kind grader. Conveys information very well-even adds some jokes. Brilliant.
One of the best Political Science professors I've had the privilege of taking at Chapman. Extremely well-versed in every focus he teaches and incredibly thorough in his lectures. Great about presenting competing viewpoints and giving students the chance to express their own.
Classes are very boring. Take his class if you want an easy grade, but no so much if you want to actually learn.
The actual class is really boring but I just did other homework during the class and it was fine. His tests are hit and miss and no matter how much or how little I studied I always got the same grade- seemed pretty arbitrary.
Awful class. Rambles in his lectures and always lets class out early, wasting my education dollars. Also grades very subjectively, so you better hope he likes you. No feedback or reasoning on quizzes. There's a reason they only let him teach one class.
He lectures for most of the class period and then allows for a discussion which can be interesting depending on if people speak up. Read the chapters that coordinate to the tests and you should be fine. He grades pretty fairly and as long as you know what you are talking about then you will do well.
Dr. Babst is probably my favorite professor I've had at Chapman. His lectures are always well focused and relevant. All tests are essay based, and he gives a variety of questions to choose from to write about. He is definitely a fair grader, and tests are easy if you come to lecture and read the chapter! He is very knowledgeable, I 100% recommend.
I loved Dr. Babst's class! He is one of the nicest professors I have had at Chapman, and I also enjoyed going to his office hours. He is a very fair (somewhat easy) grader, and is super nice in class during his lectures. Overall, the course was very easy and I would, without a doubt, take another one of his courses.
The only homework is to read about a chapter a week, but he doesn't force you to participate in discussions which is nice. It's mainly lecture and within the lecture he asks questions, but I never feel uncomfortable because there's no wrong answer. Half way through the semester and all we've had is two in class writing "quizzes" everyone did well
He is always there to help. Not a hard grader if you put in the work. I have taken a few classes with Babst and wish i could take more. Whatever class you take with him will be fun and you will learn a lot without felling like you are dying from all the work. Lectures a lot but he makes it fun with joke.
Such a great professor. The class is really simple and straight forward. His lectures are great. If you listen during class and read the chapters you will get an A. I learned a lot in his class without being overwhelmed with readings.
Dr. Babst is one of the top professors in Chapman's Political Science Department, and I would strongly recommend taking at least one class with him. Dr. Babst is very knowledgeable, an easy grader, and one of the sweetest and most caring professors at Chapman. For his FFC course, Free Speech and the University, he makes it quite simple and fun!
I took this professor for two political science classes. The only thing you have to be worried about is the presentation at the end and the paper. The test is really easy if you take good notes.
Babst is amazing; he's so intelligent, kind, and funny! His lectures are really enjoyable, and he's an easy grader. Plus, if you stay after class to ask him questions, he's always happy to clarify things/talk to you about interesting news or issues. One of my favorite professors by far.
Best professor ever. Loved his class with all of my heart. There are about 5 tests throughout the semester and if you review the slides and skim the book you will do good on them. Your grade is based off of 4 tests, a final, a term paper and a group presentation. Great feedback and great class. Wish I could take it again because of him.
The class is enjoyable, but not always super engaging. The material is very interesting, if you don't have a background in Political Theory. The tests are very easy if you put minimal effort into studying. The final paper is assigned on the first day of class so you have plenty of time to do it.
He lectures on all chapters and provides the slides before class. Quizzes are based on lecture, you don't have to read (you should). He provides feedback on the quiz and returns them right away. He doesn't put up grades so go see him (he's very approachable). No midterm. One group presentation and a paper based on it. The paper is your final.
Babst is the best! I've had him for 3 classes now (going to take another one with him in the fall!) and he is a gem in the Political Science program. He manages to teach and have students learn without assigning a ton of homework and unnecessary assignments. I've gotten a ton out of all of his classes. He's the best
Had to up this guy's rating for how amazing a professor he is. He is one of the smartest polisci professors I've ever had, keeps it unbiased and incredibly well-spoken. The class isn't hard. Not too much work and only a few exams, so make sure you know what he wants to see for your answers and you'll get full credit. Amazing prof who loves to teach
This is my second class taken with Dr. Babst and I am taking another one of his classes next semester! He is such a great professor, so knowledgable and gives great discussions. His lectures are very important in order to do well in the class. All midterms and exams are straight from his lectures, very easy if you pay attention. Super nice!
This is the second class I have taken with Professor Babst and I am taking a third with him next semester! He is hands down the best professor I have had at Chapman so far; he genuinely cares about his students and is always easy to reach outside of class. He gives close to no homework and as long as you listen in class and try you should get an A!
If I could take all my POSC classes from Babst, I would. He is very intelligent, but always communicates clearly and has a great sense of humor! I can't wait to take more classes from him in the future. He clearly cares about his students and is interested in the material he teaches.
Super chill guy and an easy class, just somewhat boring and he's a bit disorganized. Overall fine though, just nothing special
Professor Babst is the BEST! The tests are exactly what we talk about in class, as long as you take notes you'll get a perfect score. His classroom environment feels very safe, if I say something wrong I never feel embarrassed. He always has me thinking about things in ways I haven't thought of.
Dr. Babst is outstanding! He is not only enthusiastic during his lectures, but he also speaks so clearly and makes the material easy to understand, along with including interesting examples to put everything into perspective. The tests and final paper aren't too complicated and he's a fairly lenient grader. Would highly recommend Gordon Babst!
Professor Babst is always I've taken three of his classes and would take more if I could. He's clear and concise, and he makes little jokes out of know where but you have to listen to really catch them. What he expects from his students is clear and he holds to it, there are no surprises.
Gordon is the best! I've taken multiple classes with him. He's so invested in teaching the material and actually helping students succeed. There is a REALLY low workload regardless of which class you take, but you'll come away with so much knowledge just by listening to him. Attend class and pay attention and you'll learn a TON and get an easy A.
Professor Babst is very warm and caring. The class is lecture-heavy, but the reading is manageable and the workload is very low. There were three exams and one paper. I would strongly recommend taking one of his classes.
Gordon Babst is a saint. He's so kind and knowledgable. I took this class for Interterm and it was just 3 exams, but all fairly easy. The curriculum is interesting and he gives tons of supplementary readings (you are not tested on them) that are super fascinating. Take this class, it was awesome.
he talks in a way that makes concepts difficult to understand and if you don't open the lecture slides during class he uploads a different version that does not pertain to the course material.
Super easy class got a 100%. 3 Take home exams and one term paper. The material was not interesting to me; however, Babst is very chill and caring. Its hard not too do well in the class, highly recommend for a free A.
so boring
Every exam is based on the slides, which makes the class extremely fair. He also grades very easily, which allows you to learn but not feel pressure for the test. Attendance is not mandatory, and the in-class environment is great for participation or working on your work. A great class environment and a great teacher with very fair grading policies
Really great professor! Graded on 5 assignments - 1 in-person test, 3 online tests, and a final essay. Make sure you study for the one in person - it's the same difficulty as the others but many failed it lol. Really great guy to talk to outside of class.
Dr. Babst was a pretty average professor. I found his lectures to be rambling and somewhat boring at times. You're graded by very few things, 4 tests and a paper, which could either help or hurt you. Every single class ends early. He is a really nice guy who is passionate about his field of study.
Super chill and knowledgeable guy
He is definitely really passionate about this topic and political science. Sometimes, it was a bit boring, but he is very caring and nice and quickly responds to emails. Since I took this for my GE, it was relatively easier so I would certainly recommend it for that.
Prof Babst is such a sweet professor. His classes tend to be a bit lecture heavy but if you're interested in the topic it isn't too bad. Also literally exactly what you cover in class is what is on the tests so if you pay attention you're chill. He responds to emails very fast, and like I said such a nice guy.
Professor Babst is a super chill guy, his lectures can be a little boring at times though. There were only 4 tests, as well as a paper at the end of the semester, and no assignments other than that. He doesn't have office hours, but you can email him to make an appointment at any time, and he's very accommodating to your schedule.
I'm not a polisci major, but this class was pretty easy. The lectures are somewhat boring, but the professor definitely cares about what he's teaching, which makes it interesting at times. The tests aren't too bad, and there was just 1 paper to finish the class.
