Very hard teacher, but if you pass his class you can pass any class. He is always willing to help!!!

I like Gordon, he makes you learn (I will always remember concepts of social psychology)... yes he grades kind of harshly, and yes he is kind of neurotic, but he's a really good professor and really cares about the material and the students.

Dr. Bear is the BEST! He expects students to be prepared AND ACT LIKE COLLEGE STUDENTS, not high school students...he has high standards and is well versed in the subject matter. He is fair and gives you chances to improve.

Gordon Bear is a wonderful human being and would do anything to help his students learn. Some of the comments here are quite unjustified. Yes, he is demanding but that is what school should be about. Gordon Bear is great!

He is a little strange, but a really good guy. You just gotta look past the weirdness and focus on the work. He is very helpful and knows what he is talking about. If you work hard, u will see that you will get a good grade. Extremely appropriate.

I do not understand why everyone thinks he is such a hard teacher. He lets you have a page of notes for each chapter on a test! If you are too lazy to make it that's your own fault. He also lets you rewrite every single paper. He is the best teacher ever!

this guy assigns an entire textbook, so be prepared for a HUGE workload. If you can handle it, then more power to you, this guy is nice as hell and will help you if you ask. Essay rewrites and notes on tests is def. good too.

Gordon Bear is one of the most passionate dedicated professors who KNOWS what he's lecturing. the class is completely laid out in the beginning. TONS of time consuming work but you LEARN. you're in college get over it and work. you have to EARN your grade

Yes he's hard, but re-writing essays is OPITIONAL and only to your benefit...And guess what? This is college, reasing text books is part of going to college...The tests are hard but you are allowed to have notes...Yes he's tough but always available to help...

It was a hard class and he is really picky about papers, and he expects you to know a lot for the tests....But you can use your notes. He is a really interesting smart guy, and his class wasnt too boring. Dont take this class if you are looking for an easy one though

He's a bit on the boring side but he does his best with a boring subject and he knows its generally a tedious class. He's a bit strange but he's helpful and really tries to make things easy. Homework is not required but it can boost your grade. Pass the tests you will do fine.

Dr. Bear's both one of the best and most underappreciated teachers at this school. You get out more than what you put in, but be prepared to put in lot.

Tons of work, but very challenging, in a good way. I got a B+. Half the class failed, so you gotta keep up with the work. Tho, if you have interest in Psych, take the class, the guy is a genius and is incredibly interesting. You learn a lot.

bear is not an easy professor. if you dont want to work, dont take him. he expects alot from his students, but if you are prepared to keep up with the classwork you will do well as well as learn a great deal

Prof. Bear is very organized and extremely helpful. His classes are carefully planned. Its alot of work, but as long as you do the homweork, you should do well. I'm taking him again this semester, and I recommend him.

The only ppl that fail his classes are those who don't put in the time to study or read the material. It's not the material that's hard, it's the work load. His classes require a lot of work, but you'll leave satisfied w/ plenty of knowledge b/c you'll know you didn't waste your time or money.

The class is definetely a challenge. There is alot of reading but you learn so much. I really loved this class although i hated the stress that it caused. I guess you just got to weigh your options. You can redo papers and tests werent that hard.

Hardest teacher at Ramapo, but very intelligent and he knows his stuff. Be prepared to work hard, but as long as you pay attention and keep up with your readings and notes, you should be able to do fine!!

one of the best professors i've ever had. really cares about his students. very intelligent. tough classes, i'll admit that. but it's not that hard to get an A. some classes you just learn enough to pass a test, but this class you learn everything! although a challenge, you come out very knowledged. you get the most bang for your buck with him.

One of the most interesting psych classes I have taken. Seems a little nervous when he speaks, but provides so much info. Able to rewrite the four papers to get an A. Lets you bring notes for tests, and you will need them. First time Ive brought notes and could only get a B on the tests. Great professor overall, would love to take again!!!

If You want to do a ton of work take him . Nice teacher I learned alot but very tough on papers and the tests. Final is the entire book front to back but he allows tons of notes for tests but his tests aren't easy people still fail half my class dropped the first week i did well but if i was warned I would've taken only that 1 class alone

Good ol' Gordo. I love that man. He's a sweetheart. And he actually CARES about his students. He's hard but he lets you use your notes. He also lets you re-write your papers. He's a great guy. Love him & am taking him again this semester.

He assigns an unimaginable amount of work, but he's also ridiculously helpful, so you're torn between hating him and loving him. If you don't have a lot of time to devote to homework, don't take him. No cheat sheets for research&data! Be careful...

Gordon Bear is by far my favorite professor at Ramapo. The most intelligent, friendly, organized, thorough, helpful man you will ever meet. Yes, you actually have to do work for his classes, but it's well worth the effort, you will learn so much. Never lets class out early, but doesn't take attendance. He's honestly brilliant, take him.

Quirky, crazy, dedicated, sometimes frustrating and always demanding your best effort. A true scientist and a wonderful soul. Lazy students should avoid him; serious students will love him!

I absolutely love GBear. He is so helpful and so crazy. Tries to give life advice, but a lot of it just comes out wrong, especially about domestic violence and advise to ugly people. If you simply read everything you'll be fine. There are five tests, all open notes, a bunch of papers and a final. Not the best lecturer but not a hard class

GBear is extremely helpful, very sweet, and really wants his students to learn. However, he also repeats himself all the time and can be slightly difficult to listen to, but this class is great for students that are willing to put in some work. He can be crazy but it's funny.

Took him for Social Psychology. Got a B+ but it took A LOT of studying and good paper writing. You must read EVERY PAGE of the textbook on your own. He doesn't go over it in class and his tests are based largely on the text and a little bit on his in class lectures. It's easy to get a good grade as long as you do all the studying.

Data Analysis and Research Methods is a class(es) that is not going to be fun no matter who you take it with. But Bear is the type of professor who truly cares about his students. He was very understanding of my problems with depression & insomnia, and loved hearing about a classmate's 1-year-old daughter. Hard classes are easier with great profs.

I took Social Psychology and ended up with a B+. He knew what he wanted and exactly how he wanted it on the papers. Easy to do well on papers if you understand the requirements. You need to study a lot and read EVERY SINGLE page in the textbook. It can be demanding but it's not impossible to do well.

I took Prof.Bears Research Methods and Data Analysis in Spring '10 and then his Social Psychology class in Fall '10.Make no mistake, he is challenging. He also provides more assistance towards the high bar he sets for his students than any other professor I have had the opportunity to learn from. Your GPA doesn't matter as much as lerningfromGbear

He's very enthusiastic about class and very helpful. He is a little crazy but he really cares that his students learn and understand everything. Class is boring and he tend to get off topic sometimes but he also collects homework mostly everyday. Not much of a math class, more descriptive on topics.

He's a nice guy and really wants his students to learn and do well. He'll help you with anything if you ask him too. Yes-all his classes are challenging and require you to actually read the text unlike most other classes. Just study, do your homework, and ask for help and you will be fine. People complaining are the ones that don't want to do work.

Challenging is an understatement. We had four text books for our class and the quiz was hard. I had to withdraw because I couldn't keep up with the work, but what I do have to say about him, though, is that his intentions are great, he his ALWAYS willing to help and he really is a very nice man who cares about his students. He is very smart.

He is a wonderful teacher. He really loves his work and cares about the students. I had him for 3 different classes. Honestly, I didn't pass statistics the 1st time but, it was not for lack of extra help from Professor Bear. He's a little quirky but a very caring man who takes his job very seriously. He's one of my best memories from college.

I don't agree with this reviews in here, so I opted to write one. First, I graduated Ramapo back in 2003 I believe. I took Dr. Bear for a couple of classes (Research Methods and Social Psychology). I enjoyed his classes. Yes, you need to study. Look where he graduated from...Yale. He's very smart, so expect his exams to be challenging.

This will be the hardest class you will ever take. His grading is brutal, you seriously need to be at class, and he expects a lot from his students. However, THIS MAN TAUGHT ME MORE THAN ALL MY CLASSES AT RAMAPO COMBINED. The blood sweat & the tears were worth it- I apply the things I learned in this class many Semesters ago EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I took Professor Bear for Social Psych, and if you think this is a hard class, then you didn't do the necessary out of class work. He let's you use a full page of notes for each chapter he tests on, so just write as many notes as possible and READ THE BOOK! He is extremely nice and helpful if anyone would bother to meet with him outside of class.

He is not an easy teacher but I learned more in his RMDA class than any other course. His course will prepare you for the hardest courses you will take in college. Not my cup of tea. Lectures are a waste of time and he will keep you until the very last second. Very nice man, I learned a few cool things, but overall he screwed up my GPA because getting an A is tough even if you are a good student. I would not recommend but if you get stuck with him its not the end of the world. A LOT OF HOMEWORK!

The class is difficult because there is so much information involved. However, if you read and study you should be able to pass no problem. It's more conceptual than mathematical.

My favorite professor ever. His creative, clear, logical thinking made me fall in love with social psychology and I went on to get a PhD in it. Years later he still prepares for each and every class, does research and evolves with the field. Such an asset to Ramapo!

This was my favorite class at Ramapo last semester. He makes you work for the A, and rarely teaches from the book. You must attend class to do well on the test, or get notes. Homework is easy. He lets you use a full page of notes on the exams which is helpful! Take him and you will learn a lot.

if you read you will be fine. Bear wrote the textbooks in such a way you will retain the information, so it's impossible to not do well if you read his books. the class is not self taught since the textbooks were written by the teacher in a way that completely walks you through it. he is always available and receptive to questions and is v helpful

This class is a cake walk. If you can't pass this hurdle, I have no idea how you got into college. One of the easiest classes in the college.

Professor Bear is definitely not an easy professor. You do have to do work outside of class in order to do well, and there is an entire textbook to read along with a smaller book, but both are very interesting if you are interested in psychology, they are also not dry like some texts can be. Lectures are included on exams, so show up!

Great teacher! Focused on teaching students to draw inferences and understand concepts, not memorize stuff.
