Hated him at first but grew to like him. Funny hairdo.He seems to know everyhting! I learned alot and am glad I had him. Hard class, lots of reading, hard tests, harder papers, but rewarding. He gives ample opportunity for xtra credit (youll need it)!!

This class is not for slackers. Hard and tricky T/F tests, harder 1 page papers, but ample amount of extra credit. Go to class, read, ask for help and you'll succeed.

This class is a piece of cake. I never studied after the second week. Tests are true false and super easy. Hard papers but with the curve they don't even matter.

Despite the bad rap he gets and the scary syllabus I really enjoyed this class. You really have to go and the papers are frustrating. The grading scale is weird but really works to your advantage. I am a C student who pulled off an A- in this class.

Definetly one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, but he grades on two curves at the end. Show effort, read material and take notes on lectures and it's hard to get lower than a B. Very interesting class and you'll learn alot.

great professor for love, jealousy and envy class, he will challenge you. Go to every class lecture. He takes the time to answer questions and help you out if you ask him. I am glad i took the class, got a B+

This class is very difficult and requires hours of studying. Teacher was funny and interesting ti listen to, but very strict and specific when it came to tests and homework. True or false tests only. Good thing about class is you learn a lot because you have to study.

Don't listen to people who didn't like Clanton. They are idiots. Yes his classes are difficult, but you learn a lot. Only lazy, stupid people don't do well.

Clanton isn't easy but he is FANTASTIC! you will learn A LOT, i wish more classes were like this. read the materials, take notes, and understand concepts and you will do well. 5 tests, 3 1p papers (which are hard) very knowledgable prof + challenging class! A is not impossible. Will miss this class.

He is an awesome professor. I never read for 355 and did really well. In 310, you have to do more reading. You learn a lot, you just have to pay attention and follow his notes not the book because he covers everything in his notes. Study from old quizes. If you have basic SOC knowledge you will do great, but either way the classes were great.

Has unique grading style. All in all, DUDE IS CRAZY. If you think the Love/Envy class will be easy you are WRONG, avoid him. Plus he is really full of himself. I guess he would call me Envious (you would know this joke if you took class). Anyways I graduated, so **** SDSU

Tough course. Fast paced, and must read syllabus to get directions for 3 1 page papers. Quizzes are 3 ?'s, one point each (very hard). All tests 26 questions or so T/F. Very interesting fellow, but has pretty high expectations of students. One of the best and most challenging courses I've taken yet. You come out well rounded after this course

Attend his lectures because you will learn something valueable. He is funny sometime. The downside is there are 3 papers and they're kinda tough but don't worry just go to the book website and read the summary. I didn't even buy the books and still did pretty well. He knows his stuff. do the reading and find someone who took him so you can use their mc tests. Its a really interesting class but NOT an easy A. he is a ridiculous grader on papers, but it all evens out in the end.

Great class, extremely interesting. Dr. Clanton is a very interesting fellow. This is the only class in four years that I never missed one single session of! Grades extremely critically of the 1 pg essays. Other than that, tests are relatively easy.

At first he seems tough, and it seems like its a ton of work, but in the end it's totally easy. He lets you drop two essays and a quiz. Just can't beat that.

3 one page 250 word max essays and 5 true/false test and you drop 2, not a hard class but he expects you to do the work, my first soc class and it was easy, a good teacher, he dose have a weird grading style, would recommend.

All his soc classes are very similar. In this class you get what you deserve. His a very good professor. If you want to learn a thing or two about the subject and the world in general take his class.

He is great, very smart not just on SOC but about the world in general. The work is not bad, he makes it seem really hard to discourage people but like to give B's-- he'll let you drop 2 papers and 3 quizzes. Even if you don't do well in the beginning you can still manage to get an A writing a good last paper and doing well on the final quiz.

he is an awesome professor. he may seem hard, but if u are doing bad in the first 2/3 of the semester...he will make the grade u get for ur last paper and last 2 exams plus the extra credit quizes count for your final grade. hence i went from a D to a B+. he will go out of his way to help those who make the effort to visit him in his office hrs.

Class was ok. Has extra credit, most of your grade is based on the quizzes (spend most of your time studying for these, not the 250 words max. papers). Don't be discouraged about his weird grading system. As long as you go to class you'll be fine.

If you wanna learn take this class. worth every minute of your time. one of the best classes and one of the best teachers at sdsu besides bowman. harder than it seems but overall you will c its not that bad. bad thing is; he keeps you every minute of class but he really cares about students learning.

This class is actually one of the best at SDSU. I'm a senior with a double major. It is true that his grading system is weird, but methodically designed to shape you through the semester so you can do well at the end, where most of the grades comes into play. Just read assignments and study HIS notes from the board and you should be fine.

This is my first class with Clanton. And his grading is confusing, and I leave feeling like I know nothing. But that only makes me want to strive to do better. I have enjoyed the learning process so far. Clanton is one of those professors who is not going to just give you a grade, you are going to have to earn it.

Okay, he is a little Mr. Rogersish, but overall great. Focuses on getting you to truly understand a few basic concepts. Sure, his grading system is complicated and the papers are horrible. On the other hand you get 15 weeks to essentially learn 26 test questions asked over and over again in different ways that will pretty much determine your grade.

WOW what an experience! Read the texts, review his notes and go to every class! He is slow, repetitive, narrow-minded, and extreemly opionated so unless your a democrat keep your mouth shut. You have a quiz every class and he keeps you the entire time sometimes you don't even get a break. I learned a lot but would never take a class with him again.

Awesome teacher, learned a lot from him about history and what should be common knowledge. His strengths definitely outweigh his weaknesses. Go to every class and you'll get a good grade.

I am am older because I just transferred here from a j.c., and I can completely understand why he talks to the class like they are still in high school. I really like Dr. Clanton. He's very thorough and I've learned a lot in this course. He is very knowledgale and I would recommend him to anybody. The way he teaches is very clear and he makes it as easy as possible for you to grasp concepts. His tests are also EXTREMELY EASY! They all repeat the same information for the most part.

He knows what he's talking about, but he gets fed up with the freshman who never shut up during class. Thats the only reason he cracked down on attendance. If you read the chapters, the tests are incredibly easy, they're ALL TRUE/FALSE...

Says same thing all semester so things stick with you for his tests except they are accumulative. Most tests are kind of difficult but has funny grading system to help you. I worked hard and got a B, but it wasn't easy.

Really great techer!!! One of the best at State. Don't take him if you're not prepared to work, but take him if you want to learn!

Negatives: know it all, politically biased, and very opinionated. Positives: cares about his students and wants them to learn, and very knowledgeable in regards to soc. Quizzes are cumulative, so always remember to review old quizzes. He is always willing to provide extra help and will see it a positive if you visit him during office hours.

clanton is brilliant his classes are way interesting, you just have to get past the b.s. at the beginning. he knows a lot and wants things his way but it's totally worth it. the structure of the course makes it easy to get a good grade even if you mess up at first. attend, read, put in a lot of effort. go to office hours so he knows who you are.

Pretty demanding, but incredibly knowledgable and precise. Buy all of the books, and go to every class. I would not recomend him for a non-sociology major. He is an aquired taste, but I liked his class a lot...and actually learned quite a bit

He is a tough teacher and the class is not recommended for non-soc students or lazy ones. But he is super helpful if you just show effort.

He is a hard teacher, a quiz every week on exact wording of the reading. The papers are 250 words exactly but are very challenging, 4 of them and he drops 2. Plus 4 exams that are also hard multiple choice. Also he drops 2 exams I think. Lots of extra credit. Attendance is mandatory do to the quizzes.

One of his more interesting classes. Make sure to read books because will be quized weekly on reading. Grades hard on papers but they get graded on a curve in the end so don't overly worry if you get low grades on them. He's a weird teacher and can be boring, not as hard as people make him out to be, it's just a lot of reading.

Read, read, read, and read. I can't stress that enough. If you slack a day or two on reading, you really end up paying the price for it in exams and Quiz-Rs. If you're on the ball, the class is very influential and you learn a lot. I reccomend Dr. Clanton to serious students, not those looking for an easy A

I took him for Every Soc. Class he taught. Soc. Majors can learn lots! Must Work Hard, Attend All Sessions and CONTRIBUTE. tough cirriculum. Following your grade is an emotional roller coaster. Altho I was cursing his name under my beath everyday I ACTUALLY REMEMBERED EVERYTHING HE TAUGHT ME. NEED to go to class, NEED to read the book, NEED to study, see him for help even if you think you don't need it.
