This class is just a lot of bull****ting and pretending to care about mostly poetry. You have to see a play, it's not a horrible class, you just get sick of it by the end...
I mean coming from South Africa where i we speak a billion languages......with less focus and clarity, Dossett has charged my way of thinking and writing, my sentence structure and analytical skills have greatly improved. Way to go DOS
I wrote my a** off for this class, but my writing improved greatly. Its a lot of work to do and you get really sick of shakespear and poetry by the end of the class. NOT and easy A. but a good guy and helpful.
Nice guy. Very knowledgable in English, but his classroom discussion leaves a lot to be desired. He lets some people talk WAAAAAAAY too much, and others slide by without saying ANYTHING in the semester. Tough grader too. I felt I did A work, got a B.
This teacher grades very subjectively - seemingly everyone in his class gets an A unless he finds something wrong with you and always gives you an 88. If you get an 88 on two or three assignments and really want an A, you better drop.
very cool. bad writting.
Overall, a good teacher. A lot of essays, but I prefer those over tests, so it was nice. He does a good job sparking discussions which is a crucial skill for an english teacher. I got an 'A,' but others seemed to feel slighted by his grading.
A LOT of work is involved. The journals kill me. He stresses more on how you personally took the work, which is good, but he doesn't stress at all about doing academic research and analyzation. Also, doesn't lecture enough. Mostly all discussion, so be prepared to hear strange theories.
He is a really nice teacher, but he is an extremely hard grader. Most of the class is discussion, actually all of it is. Lots of analyzing poems. Lots of essays. LOTS OF WORK. I f you want an easy A..DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! But he is very nice, but very hard.
I got a "B" (88%), though i believe that I deserved an "A" in the class. Even though my grade did not qulify the grade that I felt I deserved, I can never say in all honesty that Dossett was a poor teacher. In fact, Dossett was possibly the best teacher i have ever had.
No sliding through on Dossett. You work hard and show some small semblence of intelligence and he'll grade accordingly. If you can't write a paper choose another class. He's an excellant professor!
u will not get better than a 88% on anything. the entire class is ALL discussion of poems and get so boring. be prepared to fall asleep. and hes a VERY hard grader.
Dosset challenges you to put your thoughts on the readings down on paper. If you want a teacher to spoon feed you all of the ideas needed to get an A, take somebody else. In my opinion, and excellent teacher. In fact, probably the best instructor I have taken at SMC.
Knows how to inspire class discussions. Makes the material very clear to understand in his lecture/discussions.
extremely hard grader; also unfair at times. he tells you what you can do to get a good grade, you do it and then some (like research and finding info that he admitted in class to not understanding), and then you still get the same grade. Work hard for a B, and very hard for a very slim A.
A very hard grader - intelligent, well-planned papers are suddenly only Bs and juvenile, kindergarten-esque papers register As. What's going on? Also very boring and half the time doesn't know what he is talking about. Sorry, but it's the truth. Don't take Dossett.
Excellent teacher! trys not to make class a place where u could fall asleep.I consider him to be a fair greader. Fair Essays as well. not strict about tardiness, he let's you turn in any late work. He'll see the effort the u put in to your work. not a complicated class at all!!, Just simply do his Essays and a passing grade is guaranteed!!
SUB-JEC-TIVE. Welcome back to high-school and the subjective english teacher you always loved! If you so happen to get this 'professor' for ENG2 and you're shooting for an A, you can either prepare to write what he thinks is right or, if you're a terrible writer, brown up that nose of yours and earn the grade that you don't deserve. Grossly unjust.
if you are not one of his favorite four (TM) you WILL be subjected to B's on not only your journals but papers as well (he gives full credit to his pet's journals- in many cases that i checked, they did not even complete their journals and yet they got full credit anyway - same goes for their incoherent papers). i recommend that you keep away.
Extremely vague essay topics. Though his lectures are fairly good, he never really makes it clear on what he really expects to see from your essay. From this class, I've realized that it's not ME who can make the grade I get. It's HIM.
I'm not sure what's going on, but it sure isn't right. All of my journals were thorough and he never gave me a grade higher than a B on any of them, yet those who had missing parts still got full credit. As for my papers, he always wrote VERY vague comments and it seems nothing was quite good enough for him. Overall a very narrow minded man.
First off, I have to agree with the comments about the subjective grading. He does not encourage you to do your own thinking, but to figure out what he thinks is correct. Don't bother wasting your time creating a unique interpretation for a poem: he will tell you that it's wrong and give a weak reason as to why, despite strong supporting evidence.
Too many essays and writing for an 8 week class! Only 8 people stayed to the end. If you got an A in Eng 1 you may get a B here. Good reading choices. If taken in 8 week session make sure you understand exactly what he is grading on. More about structure of writing an essay than analysis skills or what you think about the works.
The man is tough and he knows it. I had A's on all my essays in English 1 and didnt get one A with this guy. He never thoroughly explains to the student what he wants for an A paper. Plus essay topics are vague and boring. Take this class if you're a literary genius.
he's a hard grader BUT he will point out all the things you could do to give your essay a boost. this class is for someone who is trying to improve their writing skills to a higher level. if you're looking for an easy "A" then i suggest you look elsewhere; otherwise take this class because it will help you out in many ways.
If you participate in his class you'll do fine. You can say anything you want, he's up for debates. Gives you great things to read. If you want to take English you have to be able to write a good paper to get an A! He grades fairly enough. He helps you focus on your problems. Very available to help you out.Good teacher, very much enjoyed the class.
A very good but very hard and fair teacher. Grades aren't given away. Comments on papers are geared to help you improve your next one. Makes himself available if you don't understand a poem, story or what he wants on a paper. Has vague essay topics but that flexibility can work in your favor. Has a sense of humor. Class is enjoyable not a drag.
Dossett's grading is the kind that you should expect to receive after transferring from SMC. He will not take it easy on you and will expect you to grow and push yourself in your thinking. He is looking for depth in the journals, not mere repetition. If you are able to show that consideration was taken with the text, then you will be rewarded. His classes are fun and interesting. You will be able to enact a decent close reading, which is important. An arg. based on the text will win him over, even if it dif
HISTORY OR ENGLISH COURSE?! Prof. Dossett is an intelligent man and he knows a lot about English, literature and the history of writers. His lectures are mainly about the history of English and they do not help for his difficult exams. Be sure to READ EVERYTHING w/ a fine-tooth comb, remember as many details as possible. A's are almost impossible.
He's fun, and he makes the class more interesting by discussing the works we read.
im a first time student and i really thought it would be harder but the reading material and the essay prompts are interesting and easy to follow. other than that he's a coo professor. im actually getting moved to eng 1 thanks to him.
Going into this class I had a limited knowledge of how to construct a proper critical essay. And I have to admit that this Prof did help me to write better. Throughout the course I pushed myself to write "A" essays. I ended up with three B's and three A's on all the assignments in the class and he still gave me a B. I was borderline. What a pr**k.
It's nice to take a lit class from someone who is passionate about literature. In addition to fulfilling a scholars/IGETC class and working on my writing and analysis skills, I got acquainted with some of the great writers (thanks to Dosset's analysis). There is no reason to take English 2 with anyone else.
he is a really smart man and is very passionate about his work. He always makes his classes interesting and fun.He likes to see a lot of detail in his papers.
Although I really like Prof. Doessett, I do not reccommend that you take him in the learning community. I am an english major and we did very little with english (except the papers) and more with communications.
GREAT TEACHER, I LEARNED SO MUCH, VERY INTERESTING. FUN AND GOOFY. HE'S REALLY GOOD AT TEACHING =)
really good teacher!!!!!! he actually listens to what u have to say and makes assignments very clear!!!! i highly recomend him
Emphasizes class discussion, which he expertly manages, and many essays. The so called journals are mini-essays. You will have to know or learn how to analyze and write well to succeed. One of the keys are the reflective essays- self chosen subjects. Lots of work, but all of it necessary for studying English Lit.
Dossett is great! Picks really great stories and books to read and then follows them up with interesting and somewhat challenging papers. I recieved an A but it was well-earned. A perfect class to prepare you for university.
Awesome!!! Loved his class and learned so much. Although I did not get an A it has been my favorite English class at smc. Highly recommended!!!!
Listen to me, i used this site to refer me to him , and i went to his class, it was OK nothing speacial, i did so good on my essays, went to tuors to reivew them ,everything, and when he graded them he gave me C's I couldnt believe it, please just dont take him ubless you want to screw your GPA, do it for your own sake
Is really interested in having his students learn. Class is a lot of work because there is reading and essays throughout the semester. I got B's the entire time on my essays because he is a really hard grader. Participation counts so be prepared if you want to do well. Overall, would recommend for someone who is willing to work for their grade.
I took Eng 2 scholars with him and I am not going to lie he is a hard to teacher, but he will work with you if you need help. I got an A in the class by writing the essays ahead of time, going to his office, and reading books on how to write that were lent to me by him.
I loved him! He made me so excited to come to class
He is a really nice guy, and classes are interesting, I got an A in Eng1 but I think I pulled a C in this class. Even with outside help, and going to his office hours i got C's on my essays, it messed up my GPA. He is a tough grader and if he doesn't like how you write you're doomed from the beginning. I liked him, but regret taking his class.
Dossett is an awesome teacher. The work load is a lot - but reasonable. Hard grader on essays...but you can make it up with a strong portfolio. Makes lit really fun, and is always there to help you if you need it. A perfect english teacher!
An amazing teacher, understands the students, and very easy to understand what he says.
Show up, do the work and you might learn something. What I really liked about Gordon Dossett is that he helps people on all levels of education from the uneducated to the highly educated. Everyone can learn something from him. Great professor!
Took this class a couple of years ago. Listen up... if he doesn't enjoy your writing style you are in trouble. My ONLY B while at SMC was from this professor. So it was a B, I guess I shouldn't complain, but writing is my thing. At UCLA every instructor complimented me on it. So... nice guy, decent class. Not enough feedback to improve my grade tho
hes a bad teacher period. he lets off a smile and acts all friendly but is very choosey with his students. he doesnt explain things real well and when it comes to helping out a student he doesnt go out of his way to explain it 100%. and if he doesnt like you, may god be on ur side. no kidding
This class was horrible in so many ways. It was seriously a waste of my time and a semester. He gives off the impression of a nice guy but when you speak to him one on one he is unclear. The entire class is not structured so you dont know what he expects. He has horrible handwritting so you have no idea what he wrote on your essay.
I agree with the comment below. What a confusing professor! I couldn't believe it, he made 2000 and 3000 point tests and everyone thought he was serious about it. He doesnt grade any essays so you have no idea how you are doing in the class. Dossetts handwritting is terrible and he talked about his kids most of the class. The class was a joke.
Show up to class, participate, write amazing essays and you will still get a B or C. His feedback is very unclear and vague. His grading is unfair and makes no sense. If he doesn't like your writing style, Good Luck!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!No clarity, doesn't tell you what he wants you to write. I got an A+ in enlish 1, but a B in his class. Great writers got B's. Doesn't tell how to improve your writing and in office hours, gives no insight. He only wants to hear what he wants to hear, only gives A's to his style, Only likes essays thagree with his opinion
Bias. not fair. unclear. Only chooses a couple people to give As to, the rest get Bs, Cs, and Ds.
Dosset is pretty cool. He's pretty funny, i enjoyed the stories he made us read. he never assigns homework, only papers. there's no midterm and the final is just an in class essay. i would recommend.
There is a great amount of work but its something anyone can be able to do...just do it on time..Overall he is a great teacher he explains the poems very well
This professor is very awkward in his style of teaching. He doesn't assign very interesting poems, and fails to really inspire his students. He makes you turn in rough drafts of essays, too, which is a pain. I am an English major and withdrew from this class feeling very uninspired.
This is professor who cares about his students, if you study hard than you will get A if you don't than you will get what you deserve. Very good person, always there to help, take him, you won't regret.
extremely helpful teacher, if you show effort in the class he will pass you. props to dossett
He is a cool teacher. He tries to be entertaining but his assignments are very boring. He made me hate English!
i actually really like this teacher. he is a comedian and keeps the class entertained. He gives alot of essays that are kinda boring, but he explains them well (if you ask for examples). Overall, i did learn in this class.
He was the best English Professor I have had in months! He's easy but sometimes hard depends if the class is taking the class seriously. Overall I would definitely take him over again! Fun teacher
omg he was hella easy!like no comment! very helpful teacher! hw was easy cuz you basically did your essays in class all you had to do was go home and type!:) final was easy cuz he gave practice essays in class similiar to the prompt so it was like you did the final in classgood teacher take take take! his class gets filled quick so get him on time!
well i took him for 21A and Eng1 and he is very good! i heard not to take him after eng1 he gets harder. grades very hard..no hw only when doing rds for essays uses txt books everyday for eng1 class. i got a B in 21 and yes his writing does suck..but very fun and super easy as you can see i took him 2x! i knw for sure he will pass me for engl 1:)
Great professor. Taking an independent study class with him in substitution of Engl 1 because I could not get in. Had him for 21A. Willing to help students succeed. Helps understand grammar and really helps with developing critical thinking skills. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Awesome Proffesor! He really cares about his students. He makes sure to give you helpful tips in your writing.
Scholars class. I passed all of my AP Eng exams, got 700+ on SAT writing sect and reading comp and came out with a B in the class. He favors suck ups, so if you want the A, go for that. Very boring class. Some people even got C's, rarely gave out A's. Beware
He is a very nice teacher! He loves to help his students improve their papers. I took him for English 21A and for English 01. You won't regret taking him. He takes his time in reading what exactly you write in your essays. You don't really use the book and if you don't bring it, you can always look with another person. He wont mind. He's great!
I never enjoyed writing essays for English: until I took this class. He clarifies grammar usage and helps you write proficient essays. No one in the class received anything lower than 75% on their essays. No textbooks were used in his class. He's really friendly and can help anyone with a problem. I would definitely take this class again!
Good teacher, but is very picky when it comes to grading essays.
He is an excellent teacher. He knows how to teach and has a good sense of humor. I recommend anyone who is struggling in English to take his class, you wont regret it.
He's a great teacher. Advice for getting an A: Be really thoughful in your essays and assignments. I think he prefers depth over proving how smart you are. Also, be unique in your analysis. Teachers have to grade the same material over and over, so give a twist in your writing. I think he liked reading something different
He is great! very hands on and helpful. Easy going, lets you text and talk. also lets you open up in class. overall great class
I really enjoyed attending Dr. Dossett's E21a class. The texts that he assigned were very interesting and fun to read. Mr. Dossett is very organized and clear in his methods of teaching (more than 15 years of experience). If you get to class everyday, turn in assignments on time, and put in a good amount of effort, you will be successful. Cheers!
Extremely helpful.
FIRST EXPERIENCE AT SMC, and he's amazing, very helpful, and nice. Also he's = willing to help and walk you through steps only if you show interest. He doesn't believe in 5 paragraph essays, however he does believe in always reading lol. Bottom line he will make you a better writter. THANK YOU MISTER.DOSSETT :))
I love Prof. Dossett, hes such a cool guy and very helpful. theres a lot of reading as should be expected in english 2 and 6 and also atleast 3 essays through out the class which should also be expected. He is willing to help with everything. He's one of my favorite prof. at SMC.
Passionate professor who gets the class involved and breaks students out of their shells. At first it's not exactly clear what he wants out of the essays, especially w/the Eng 1 format at SMC (which he all out abandons), but overall a great and engaging professor who'll improve your writing if only by exposing you to new styles.
HE IS SUCH A GREAT TEACHER. MY FAVORITE TEACHER AT SMC. REALLY HELPFUL AND RELLY IMPROVES STUDENTS WRITTING SKILLS. TOOK HIM FOR BOTH 21 A AND 12B HE IS GREAT AND VERY UNDERSTANDING SERIOUSLY TAKE HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT :D AND HES SO FUNNY !
Dossett is fantastic. If you're really interested in English and thinking about majoring, he is a great choice. 4 essays and you read really interesting and understandable material. Fair grader. For each essay, has the class get into groups and peer edit each other's papers so you can get real feedback before turning it in. I highly recommend him!!
I took his scholars class, and I think he was a fair grader. Not easy, not too hard. Got Cs in ENGL high school, I got a B in his class. Make sure you do all the readings because he has quizes. Attendence and participation is a part of your grade. Has students peer review their essays and helps you improve. Great teacher, funny and nice.
Really great teacher and also an over all great person. Every teacher @ SMC should be like Dosset. He's worth taking...
He gives good interpretations of the poems & gives students opprotunity to explain their thoughts as well. Pretty easy grader, takes your opinin about your work into account, very there for you when writing papers, chooses a lot of material read in past, not extremely knowledgable when it comes to literay terms.
Awesome! would love to take him for all my English classes! :D
Such a sweet Professor. He is a really good teacher and very engaging. I HATE english but his class made me appreciate it again. WOULD DEFINITELY take another one of his classes. Awesome time this semester
He was a fair grader, and his class was really interesting and easy. This class helped me chose my major which is English. I did so well that I got the highest score in his class for in class essay given by the college, in 2 years. I got to skip straight to English 1. He really helps you prepare. I'd recommend if you want to go to English 1 asap.
Dossett is a very passionate teacher who loves to teach. He makes you write a lot in class essay and the reading load is pretty heavy but he is very helpful and will improve your writing. He is interesting and fun! Defiantly take his class if you want to improve your writing and learn a lot.
For his scholars class have the textbook. There are 4 in-class essays & 4 out of class essays. He's pretty lenient on the in-class essays grading wise. He's nice but sometimes it's hard to tell if he's being mean or joking. I do recommend him if you are already a good writer or he may be too hard. He likes students who joke & speak up in class.
He is a fun teacher, interesting personality. Really nice. The reading isn't too bad, lots of journals that you discuss in class. You have 4 essays and the final in class essay. You have a bit of freedom with your writing which is fun but he doesn't really tell you how to write an A paper. Gotta figure it out yourself. We went to plays together too
Dossett is an easy teacher and his class is enjoyable as long as you turn in your essays on time and make an effort on them he's a lenient grader and will bump up your grade at the end of the semester if your close to the next letter grade up depending on the rest of the classes grades, I definitely recommend him!
I've had Dossett three times & can honestly say he's one of the best English professors at SMC, certainly the best I've ever had. Knowledgable, insightful, and really wants you to succeed. Class is mostly discussion-based; participation is key. Highly recommend this class to potential English majors. He'll really prepare you for higher university!
Dr. Dossett is a helpful professor. And funny, he takes his time to explain and makes everyone get invovle class lecture. Highly recommend.
The man can teach. He is an easy grader and if you know how to write an essay you will be fine! The class can be what you make it out to be but in no way is it difficult. Not much HW except reading and essays and get involved in class. Dude taught me how to write and use grammar. Super chill dude and class!
The best English professor at SMC. Not only does he put the information in your hands and allow you to create your own analysis (as opposed to just telling you what everything is "supposed to" mean), but he is the best choice for any English majors who are planning on transferring. He truly prepares you. 3 papers, a few in-class essays, and a final
Extremely easy class, and he cares about his students. I got a 5 on the college wide essay which was the highest grade any of his students had received in two years. He wrote a recommendation letter for me to enroll in the scholars program. I received an A in his class and skipped straight to english 1. Take his class!
He was a amazing professor very insightful and fun to be around helped with assignments to understand them. He was very funny and very laid back, watched movies and went to a play well worth my summer time highly recommended. Helped me become a better writer. book is needed 90% just do the work and turn in its a easy grade
I have never received a B in English in my entire life except in this class. The professor expects a lot from you. Maybe it's because I took a 6-week online class, so the class was pretty fast-paced. Professor Dossett surely is a very knowledgeable person. He does REALLY hate 5-paragraph essays or any forms of it.
Professor Dosset is the best teacher I have had at SMC! Had him for 2 semesters. Truely is a great teacher that cares for his students and also for what he is teaching.
Great Teacher! He is there to help you and provides great feedback
No tests, just four essays on material you read in class. Pretty clear guidelines and if you struggle with writing essays you can always talk to him and he'll help you out. Class isn't that challenging, but make sure you participate. If you get mostly As on the essays and (occasional) quizzes then you'll get an A in the class.
English was not my strongest subject, but prof Dossett helped me pass it. He is willing to make accommodations and works patently with students. He likes when you talk to him in office hours and participate in class discussion. Having well-developed writing skills will make you earn a desired grade in this class.
Dossett is a pretty straight forward professor. I enjoyed the class mostly because it was really easy and he was really funny. I would take it again for sure.
Dr. Dossett definitely knows Shakespeare. Make sure you read all the plays and sonnets and be prepared to write critical essays. Very friendly professor but he is a tough grader. I would recommend Shakespeare with Dr. Dossett to any serious English majors, definitely an necessary and informative course.
His only way to get people to attend every lecture was bribery. If you attend every class you don't have to take the final. Got through the class with skimming the book he assigned us to read and answer questions. Pretty simple. Just make sure to keep on track with the assignments and essays, and beware of the jokes. Many jokes. Too many.
He is a good teacher. He is a good teacher at the community college level. He is a good teacher for community college students.
Professor Dossett is funny, caring and a great professor. He does not use a textbook but you read two books and have some assignments around them, and also a research paper etc. He is quick to grade papers, but can be a bit of a tough grader. If you improve the things he gave feedback on, you'll get a better grade over time. Very decent professor.
Professor Dossett is a really enjoyable professor. He keeps the class engaged by asking the class questions, really helps you build your essays, and prepares you for the next english class you plan to take. He also helps you revise your essays, answers questions after class hours, and encourages participation. I would definitely take him again!!
Professor Dossett was extremely helpful during office hours, helping me improve my essay drafts, think more critically, and improve writing style. He listens sincerely to the opinions of the students. Example: he organized the final exam essay topics according to class vote. Achieving an A is not easy, but his grading style is fair and consistent.
Its so much fun, we learn a lot, and its easy, thank you Dr Dossett
You read stories from the book and then write some essays on it. Went to his office hours, but I didn't really get good feedback. Class discussions are also kind of boring. I'm sure Dossett knows a lot about English but for someone not interested in English, it wasn't very fun. It's very comparable to an AP Literature course.
Amazing teacher! Really cared about his students. I went to his office hours and they were actually pretty helpful. He always gives good feedback, A LOT of feedback, and it helps!! He's funny and has a lot of energy! DEF RECOMMEND.
Currently taking him for the Spring 2017 semester... what a great guy. He's informative, helpful, and hilarious. Just pay attention to the syllabus and the files he posts online and you should be fine. Do the HW and you should get an A if you put the effort in.
Professor Dossett is very knowledgeable and will definitely help you improve your writing.
He is a fine professor, nothing extraordinary but very decent! If you do all the papers and see him during office hours from time to time this should not be that hard of a class! Not an easy A, but maybe easy B? The essays are fun topics but there is a long research paper which is draining. Final exam is pretty straight forward, which is good.
All around awesome person. Tells funny stories and incorporates interesting current events into the material. Highly recommend. Very kind, decent person and if you put in the effort and participate, you'll get an A.
Pretty chill teacher. If you show that you put you cab put effort in the class, he will then give you the respect you deserve and will help you pass the class in any way he can. Make an appointment with him during office hours to improve your work in class. Great professor.
Meh, basic literary theory, nothing new. I didn't care much for him.
Unless you have a passion for writing literary essays, you have to work really hard to write Dossett's 'A' paper. He is the pickiest essay grader I have ever met; you cannot revise your essays for extra points. You get 4 in-class essays, 4 out-of-class essay assignments, and a final. I personally regret taking him.
Great professor! Taught clearly and was overall a great person. Make sure you participate in in-class discussions though. 4 out of class essays. They are easy if you talk to him about it. You have to work for an A but its achievable. Great guy as well.
Good average amount of papers, just do what he asks and you'll be fine. he's very forgiving if you genuinely care.
if ur good at writing take him and it'll be easy as heck. participation is important because it counts as a whole essay, and its pretty easy to get an A if you just raise your hand everyday.
I really enjoyed the way Professor Dossett combined current events to teaching the fundamentals of how to write college level essays. He uses a book "America Now" with current event based articles and uses topics that are relevant in society for the class to write their essays on. Very helpful funny guy, go to office hours and he'll help you out
This was my first scholar's class and I thought it would be boring and difficult but Dossett really makes the class fun. He finds ways to make the class interactive and he is hilarious. He is always there to help his students. I would definitely take this class again if given the chance.
Mr. Dossett is not only a great professor, but also a great person. He will help you if you show interest and prove to be dedicated. Go to his office hours, it will help a lot He brings up interesting topics, he is very caring and I also find him very funny and comprehensive. I would definitely recommend. Not an easy A, but definitely an easy B.
Dossett provided a well-rounded survey of Shakespeare's plays in this class and made the experience really fun. There was a decent amount of reading, and he gave out pop essays every once in a while, but other than that, it was a really reasonable class. Keep in mind that Dossett has much higher standards for your out of class essays!
Great professor. I learned a lot. Lots of essay writing but clear with instructions and gives good feedback. I would definitely take again.
Hes very humorous, and he'll make you work for your grade. But as long as you follow by what he says you'll be fine. Hes a real teacher no bs.
At first he seemed kinda scary but it turned out he was pretty funny and had interesting stories. Then toward the end of the semester, he was kinda disrespectful, probably because of stress or something. He's big on not letting you write five-paragraph essays. Like he's OBSESSIVELY anti-5-paragraph.
Hes a wonderful teacher!!!!
Great professor, really wants his students to pass. Participation really matters and can really help your grade so raise your hand a lot during class discussions.
we had about 4 hw essays and 3 in class essays. id say he's a little of a tough grader only bc he is the first professor to only give me straight B's!!!!! its a little tough to get an A. we mostly just read literature and talk about it. Work load is not heavy at alllll. Only hw are essays. Talk in class for points. no tests or quizzes.
He's a good professor but you have to earn your A. If you feel that your'e not doing well I highly recommend going to his office hours as we may give you extensions if you need more time on your essays. There are "surprise" essays for each unit which he usually gives towards the end of each unit. Participation matters so raise your hand!
Professor Dossett is one of the best college professors I have ever had at SMC. His class improved my writing extraordinarily and really helped me like English literature better. I also feel that I am better able to understand English. He really makes you work for an A but it is totally worth it to take his class. You won't regret it.
If you can write an essay, you can pass this class. He really likes students who participate and provide good commentary to class. Very nice guy and understanding.
