Great teacher. He's a fun guy who makes doing the labs actually interesting. I highly recommend him.
Awesome teacher! Great attitude and enthusiasm! Made learning anatomy fun.
duffie holds my heart in the palm of his hand.
duffie rock, lab sucks but he makes it cool and you learn stuff
Dr. Duffie is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He makes class incredibly fun with his jokes and sarcasm.

He is definately the best teacher ever! He makes class fun with his great jokes. I highly reccomend him! He is one of those teachers who actually cares about the students. He is great!
i took him 3 time and he is awesome i wish i were still a bio major b/c he is the best teacher ever. it is hard to get into his class cause everyone wants him and he really only teaches the LEAP program but if you can get in go for it.
The fact that a kickass teacher like Duffie is always stuck teaching Bio 101 says something disturbing about Loyola. He's great for upper-level courses and I'd love to see him teaching more.
awesome teacher;very nice, helpful, and clear in his lab lectures, etc. He knows how to make bio lab FUN. Take him,HE ROCKS!
Dr. Duffie is the an extremely fun teacher! He is so fun to learn with, and you will learn lots from him!
Dr. Duffie is the best teacher I've had at Loyola...I learned a lot in his lab class. He is always willing to help and has a great sense of humor. He really cares for students.

Very nice guy, helpful, fun class.
He is the best teacher at Loyola. I learned so much in his class and he didn't overwork the class. I highly reccomend taking his class.
Nicest biology teacher and lab...Explains in great detail, funny, likes his students..highly recommend him for any class..and even if ur not bio major take him for an elective.
THIS GUY IS THE BEST TEACHER AROUND... I HAVE HIM THIS YEAR 03/04 ..HINT HINT...LOL..COMING INTO LOYOLA I WASNT A BIG FAN OF BIO...BUT MR DUFFIE HAS REALLY CHANGED THAT...TEACHERS LIKE HIM ARE HARD TO FIND...VERY RECCOMENDED :)
great teacher. he cares about his students and wants you to do good. love him...awsome class.
Made the class fun and easy.. I definitely recommend him. I enjoyed his class so much I'm taking him for Bio 102.
this is guy is the best at loyola take him no matter wat... they should clone dr duffie and replace the teachers with this guy...he makes u laugh..and he cares for others .... this guy is the chet...
"Remember, at Loyola...we care." -Dr. Duffie. I love this man. Hes a riot..and he will explain things so perfectly youd think it was telepathic. If hes doing a lecture section...you better be in it because it will rock your face off. tests/quize
loved dr.duffie. he's the best and he really cares about his students. absolutley loved him and the class!!!!!
He lectures as if you were in sixth grade. Not many notes. Fair tests. Easy HW for free points.
I have never had so much fun in biology as I did having him as my prof! He makes info so appealing and humorous too. He is willing to explain simple stuff as much as you need it and does not make you feel stupid! Great guy!
The best Bio teacher you wud find at loyola!
fun class. best bio prof in loyola. hands out study guides for exams. Dont leave loyola without taking Dr Duffie's class.
the best professor one can have at loyola, and very easy as well.
Great prof. Excellent teacher. Loyola is lucky to have him. knows what he is doing. Follow the study guide, exams will b easy then. take his class for sure!
Great teacher, fun to have class with. There is a lot of information, but he makes it fun to learn. Take him if you get a chance, A+++++++
Bad teacher
He's a funny guy. Very helpful and would always answer questions. the practicals can be tough if you don't study. Just study and you'll get an a.
grfeat teacher, if you took good notes you had no problem passing course
Dr. Duffie is by far my favorite prof ever and I'm a post-bacc student who has already gone through undergrad. Take him for sure. He is hilarious, and you will learn the subject so well! I still remember fondly all the bio 102 classes I had with him.
WONDERFUL teacher. if you have to take this class, make sure you take him. praticals are hard, but if you study what he says to, an A is easy to achieve, especially with all of extra credit!!!
Dr. Duffie is a wonderful teacher. Just because some professors have their PhD doesn't make them teachers, Dr. Duffies does an excellent job explaining material and I would recommend him to anyone, he truly cares about your well being. I'd take him for more Bio classes if I could!
Dr. Duffie is the best teacher in the world. HE makes extreemly funny jokes about anything. He is very clear in his lectures. I would like to go party with him.
This teacher is the best. He has 3 tests which covers a lot of stuff but he gives u a study guide and if u study that you will get a good grade. The thing so good abt him is he is willing to spend time with u.He is really a dedicated teacher.Plus he is funnny so tht makes the class interesting.
He is by far the best professor I had at Loyola. He is so funny and his tests are easy if you just take good notes and go over them. He is really good at explaining stuff and definitely holds attention when lecturing.
BEST TEACHER IN THE WORLD. He is so funny. He makes class a blast. DEFINITELY take him if you can. Hi tests are so straight forward.
Dr. Duffie is without a doubt the best bio teacher at luc. There are 4 very easy tests, small assignments and one small project. He tells you whats on the test, is very helpful and an extremely nice guys. Take if you can get into his classes, they usually fill up very fast!
He's B.O.B! A very good teacher and definitely pick him for anatomy/physiology
Awesome teahcer. Whatever he lectures on is one the test, so people know what to study. He is very nice and funny. If you study, the class is very easy. Extra credit is given plentifully.
Dr. Duffie is simply great. It does not get any better than this. He helps you in anything you want. Bio with Dr. Duffie is so much better and very possible get an "A".
This professor is great. He helps you a lot. You can ask him help in anything. A great guy. Take him for sure.
he's a hot tamale..very funny..easy labs just study whatever he covers in class...be sure to ask the parts you need to know during dissection...and go over the lab manual..lab test are all fill in the blanks but he displays the bones and slides on the tables then you need to identify them. LOve him
THe best prof. at loyola
grat man..fantastic teacher, take him if you can!
Dr. Duffie puts Biology into layman's terms so you actually know what he's saying. Very good teacher, gives review sheets, hw assignments (but you get credit just for doing it), EASY ... sometimes his tests could get difficult b/c of the way he words things...but just use ur head!
Duffie is super cool. He is funny and easy to learn from. He favors pretty girls though.
The Best
Aside from being hilarious duffie is a great teacher. He breaks everything down and makes sure that the entire class understands what he's talking about before he moves on the the next topic. I look forward to his class!
This man is awsome. WOW! It doesn't get any better than this for lab. He is very helpful and tests are pretty good. Take him if you can get him!
This class was very interesting since the professor is greatest-always making jokes in class. He is hard grader and his tests are not easy, but if you are following his instructions and due the assign readings-(labs are fun, too) and in that case you should not worry.
This man is great. He is best teacher for biology. He is very helpful, just ask but don't annoy him though. Very possible to get an A, just do what he tells u.
He is the best teacher. I love his attitude. He is always ready to help and answer your every question. His quizzes are easy and his notes are understandable and clear. I recommend taking him for Biology.
You'll never leave early for lab. The class is stupid b/c he won't make you understand anything more than the book. His tests can ask you just about any minute detail from the book even if its not covered in class. AVOID!!!! GPA hitter
I don't care what the person before me said, but I have him for both lab and lec and I think he is SUPER COOL teacher. HE IS THE BEST!
very clear and helpful with questions. i loved coming to class because it was always interesting and fun. this teacher makes you feel welcome and comfortable in his class
I love Dr. Duffie. He's the coolest professor in Loyola. He's very clear with his lectures and his labs are the greatest. He is really a unique and special person. And should be paid the salary of 500 professors. Duffie Cares, lol.
GREAT TEACHER!!! The best bio teacher you could get at Loyola
He is the BEST PROFESSOR at Loyola. He is just the BEST!!!!!!!!!:)
Duffie is the greatest...he might not be the best for pre-med majors because his questions are so easy and does not make you think....but he is always there to talk to for explantions if you still do not understand...it is really hard not to get a A in this class or at least a B. Take him!!!
I had Duffie as a sub for one lab and he is awesome. He's very helpful in explaining things and his lecture are upfront which shows that he really wants you to learn and understand. i tried to register for his bio lab but it was FULL ALREADY! no wonder!

Awesome professor. He is nothing but clear and he explains everything very well. Never hesitate to ask him any questions because he is more than happy to help. If you can...take him!
Duffie is the best lab teacher at Loyola. Helpful, clear, and enthusiastic about Anatomy, he has tons of information to share. Makes class fun...never a stupid question. Gets to know the students so you don't feel like a number. If you like the material, it shouldn't be a problem getting an A. Great guy, I'm taking him again.
As all the others say HES GREAT! i hate biology with a passion but this man made it easier for me. hes a great guy, great teacher, and gets to the point.
study and you will get an A. very good teacher. tests are fair. lecture was fun. take it.
He's ok!
He is hard ...U end up getting lower then what u expected!! Hard test
He's good; he makes the class interesting and you will learn some practical things that you may not get just from reading the book. Even easier than bio 101 so don't sweat it.
I had Dr. Durffie for 101,102,111,112 and he is one of my most favorite teacher at Loyola I mean sometimes he can be a lil cranky but he slowy gets outta that..I recommend that everyone takes Dr. Duffie you will always have a laugh!
i also had him for bio 101 111 102 and 112 and he is the best teacher that i ever had at loyola. very clear and helpful. Take him!
Duffie is a good teacher to take as long at you go to the lectures and read the text. He does not throw any curve balls. Very straight forward and provides with study guides for all the tests. He is really funny and keep the class interesting but can be intimidating and snippy during office hours.
he is the best teacher hands down!he is fun clear and helpful! take his class. you will not regret it!got it?! ok!
i dont see what everyone is jumping up and down about. hes avergage, funny at times, but a little lacking in terms of intstruction. i feel like he treats us like were 10. nonetheless, relatively painless class. easy
he's good if you study enough for exams. extra credit for clickers, but if u dont attend class and have an assignment, you lose that assignments point. also, assignments are 20% of the grade so dont miss any.
he's the first bio teacher i have taken and he is good. but that does not guarantee and easy A, since tests are actually pretty hard.
i read all the necessary chapters and still didnt do as well in the class as i liked. if u are smart, go with duffie, if not, go with someone else.
not as easy as i thought. it was a misconception.
hard class...
This guy is amazing. He always explained everything in terms that anyone could understand. He gives practice test, study guides, and clicker (bonus) points that add percentage to your grade! You still have to study but he cares about students and doesn't want them to fail. DEFINATELY RECOMMEND
everyone is goin crazy for his class but he's not that easy...
These people below me are retards. Biology is a tough course no matter who you take. Duffie makes notes SO damn clear and if you make the effort, an A is very achievable. Tests come straight off the practice problems he gives you. It's BIOLOGY! It's not a blowoff course! But he's as good as it gets. You won't get him tho..he's already filled.
Dr. Duffie is a good professor but he definitely got harder from previous years. His tests are NOT as easy as everyoen assumed. He is one of the better professors though
Dr. Duffie was awesome with lab. He was extremely helpful and would sometimes give the answer away. His tests were not too bad. I wish his lecture was that good...
Dr. Duffie is a great professor. class assignments are worth equivalent to one exam, he gives clicker questions in class that are added percentage to your test grade. This is biology, so don't expect it to be a piece of cake. An A is not impossible, although it takes a lot of work.
He's great. Makes everything really clear. His class isn't a cakewalk but it's not super difficult either. Not hard to get an A. He's pretty funny too.
Dr. Duffie is awesome for lab. He is funny and makes biology lab as painless as possible. He will always help you out if you ask him for it. He also will let you out early whenever possible, and hates when people waste time with dumb questions. Take him if you can- he's a cool guy.
Dr. Duffie is a phenomenal teacher. I had him Fall 07 for Gen Bio, and currently Spring 08 also. I highly recommend Dr. Duffie to be your selection for Bio or any other course he teaches. He really simplifies biology and gives it a whole new meaning. Do his practice exams and objectives and you will do extremely well on tests.
Possibly the best biology instructor at loyola. He tries to know everyone by name and during lecture before the test, gives some test answers. Gives homework that is easy points. Easy A.
i absolutely adore dr. duffie. he's truly passionate about what he teaches, and it comes across in lecture because its actually interesting! and i know everyone thinks that his tests are easy, but its not so much that its easy, but rather they're fair. he's not out to get you. TAKE HIM!!!!
HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS AT LOYOLA! Duffie is amazing because he actually cares about his students, his tests aren't always super easy but if you do the objectives and practice tests you will be very prepared. He gives clicker points and some pretty easy assignments. I would recommend him for Bio 101 & 102, but his classes fill up FAST
One of the best teachers Loyola has to offer. He is not only a great teacher, but he makes Bio fun and interesting. His tests are almost identical to the practice tests he gives the class on Blackboard. Tons of extra points (ie: handouts and clicker questions) Don't take him for granted, he is an AMAZING teacher and deserves respect.
Dr. Duffie is the man! He doesn't grade the labs, just checks them over to make sure you did them. Practicals are fairly easy, and he isn't psycho for detail. He provides study guides for all the information he wants you to know. Easy-going and fun. SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS ASAP!
i wish duffie could teach all my bio classes....if that were the case, i'd be set for life pretty much. TAKE HIM!!!!
Had him for 101 and 102, he's the best.
Best professor at Loyola. Enough said! =)
Happy 100th rating Dr. Duffie. A wonderful teacher very clear. Also has a sense of humor
Do NOT take him for Bio, you will learn absolutely nothing. This is the best comment you'l read, his tests are not like normal ones, a lot of choose A, B or C or all of them and weird questions. Teaches 1/3 of other Bio teachers, does not prepare what so ever for MCAT. You'll be sorry in the long run, pick Stevenson, easy and you learn everythin
Duffie was a good professor. He was concerned for his students and wanted the students to participate and ask questions. Gives practice exams and objectives. If you skim the book and do those you will be fine.
Best prof at Loyola! Learned so much in Bio 101 and 102. Ended up with an A both semesters.
GREAT class, i would recommend. Easy to pass, and easy to get an A, but that is because he is such a great professor. Very good at teaching and explaining. Loved his class and made you take in interest in the class. TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU CAN
Duffie is amazing!! He was the best teacher I had my freshman year!! I had him for bio 101 and 102.If you get the chance to take him DO IT!! My freshman year parents called in to request him (which you should not do).And p.s we NEVER used the clickers in my classes.
Duffie is the best Bio professor here! Im considering taking Bio 102 just to have him again! Deff take Duffie!
Dr. Duffie is the best teacher I've ever had. He has office hours everyday from 9-5 when he's not in class and truly cares about his students well being. He always asks if we need help with picking classes, majors, ect. Take him, he's a genuinely good person. Plus you get to be with the LC kids who are geniuses and helpful.
Duffie is a great teacher. He really helps students understand the material. It is very easy to get an A in his class. A must take.
Dr. Duffie is great. He presents the material in an easy-to-understand manner as well as being very personable. He has a discussion portion that allows you to turn in worksheets for bonus points. he also uses a clicker (not mandatory) for bonus points as well. Lots of different components towards your grade makes for an easy balance of points.
Duffie is awesome! Very easy-to-understand lectures, tests are not too hard, and he gives lots of extra credit with the i-clicker questions. He's a really nice guy, and a great professor. Reading the book is not mandatory, it just helps reinforce the concepts. Take him if you can (but good luck getting into his classes, they fill up fast!)
I love Dr. Duffie! I got an A without ever reading my book. I also have him for BIOL 102. I would recommend him to anyone!
Duffie is funny with his corny jokes and stories. His lectures are very clear, take careful notes and study those and the tests are a breeze. Book is totally unnecessary. He's very helpful and cares that his students understand the material. If you have to take bio, take it with Duffie.
I personally don't see what the big hype is all about with taking duffie...he is a legit professor but he didnt do anything out of the ordinary from other professors i've had other than bonus points...lectures were dry at times..good teacher but i wouldnt go out of my way to take him
Legit professor, probably the best bio teacher loyola has. lots of bonus points, and doesn't go word for word out of the book, which makes classes bearable. If your lucky enough to take him (his classes fill up first) DO IT!
do the objectives and study the book a little bit. Take good notes. Overall hes a good teacher and easy
I had Dr. Duffie for Biology 101 and 102, and he's a really nice guy. Reading the text book is completely unnecessary if you study the powerpoints and go to class. You just have to make sure you go to class, because the difference between my A in 101 and my B in 102 was laziness.
dr. duffie is an overall great professor. the concepts can be hard to understand at times but he does his best clarifying confusing topics so the students understand. his exams are fairly challenging so study study STUDY!!!
Duffie is the best!! Take his class, they fill up really fast! You're lucky if you get in it. Lots of bonus points. Fairly easy compared to other professors, just go to class and make sure you study his powerpoints.
Hes not as easy as everyone makes him seem. Don't get me wrong hes not a bad professor he offers a bunch of extra points. But you have to keep up with whats going on he goes through stuff pretty fast. Try taking him in a small classroom. I had him in an auditorium there were so many post graduates that the freshman just fell behind one by one.
Not an easy class, it's designed to weed people out. Dr. Duffie is a great guy, offers a ton of extra points. The tests can be tricky, make sure you leave enough time to study.
Dr. Duffie is awesome! he's a nice guy, he knows his stuff too. he offers tons of extra credit as well. go to class and take notes and you'll be fine! try to get in to his class because it's hard to get in to. absolutely love this professor. one of the best professors at Loyola in my opinion :)
DUFFIE IS THE MAN.
Dr.Duffie is the best biology professor you will ever see. He is super easy and offers a bunch of extra credit. Student-friendly policies. Available for help! TAKE HIM!
You want Duffie! Literally there is no one better. He is super informative and you will learn a lot his tests are not that difficult and he offers loads of extra credit. If you can't get an A in this class you should really consider a different career path then medicine because this is as easy as it gets people.
Although Dr. Duffie is funny and light-hearted in lecture, he is quite the opposite in personal interactions. On several occasions when I asked to visit him during office hours he was rude and acted as if his time was too important to help me. If you want a approachable, helpful professor, take someone else. (Although he claims to "care")
If you want an easy A, which is likely the reason you came here, then you don't want Duffie. I just took him this semester, and my friends and I, though we are bright, really struggled in his class. Duffie USED to be an easy teacher (from what I hear) but he has made the class much harder, as too many people did well.DON'T TAKE HIM if you want an A
Honestly the funniest professor you will ever meet. If you pay attention in class, and are somewhat bright, you'll get a solid A in the class.
the reason everyone loves him is b/c he's definitely a character. his humor is great. but his tests are challenging. gives mastering bio, and clicker points. you still need to study a lot to do well don't think this is an easy A people. some of his test questions are tricky so you gotta know your stuff!
Duffie is the man. Easy to understand and teaches very well. He gives E.C. which is awesome and all of his tests were very fair, even with E.C. questions.
Dr. Duffie is the man. He is probably the most interesting teacher that I have ever had in my life. He makes sure that the students understand his class. He uses real life examples. If you read the book and do the online homework you will get an A.
he's so funny and such a great teacher!
Attending one of Dr. Duffie's general biology classes is so entertaining, it should not be considered a class. He's hilarious, makes biology fun, and is very approachable outside of class. Attendance is mandatory, though, as he gives out iclicker points that contribute to your grade. If you want biology to be fun, take Duffie!
Great teacher! Interesting and fun lectures; very helpful, organized, and cares about his students. Powerpoints and objectives are very useful; reading textbook will help to succeed on his tests, which are just right (not too easy, and not too hard).
Class won't be boring, he's a funny guy that will lighten your day. Although some say he's an easy teacher, don't under estimate his exams. I believe he doesn't give out as much extra credit as he use to.
Dr. Duffie is the best biology professor Loyola has to offer. He's hilarious! You'll succeed on the tests as long as you understand the power points. Overall he is great, but his tests can be somewhat challenging.
HE THE MAN. TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM! you won't regret it.
this is my 1st semester of college, and he is the 1st teacher i met. he is extremely goood, and he is very know how to teach and funny. he is not going to take attendence, but he will us iclicker as quiz in class, and will as a grade, but is really easy. so HW, iclicker, and discussion works will take a lot place in final grade.
If there's one word to describe Dr. Duffie, it would be 'fair'. The grade is made up of 3 exams, mastering biology, and i-clickers & discussion worksheets. Each is worth 100 pts and adds up to 500. Everything is curved. He's a fantastic professor - very clear in his expectations, and tests only on what he covers in lecture. Very helpful if see him.
Duffie is a very funny guy. If you like Bio you'll do fine, if not, you really need to read the chapters gone over in class. His tests were hard for me. I got an average of 78.5 on all 3 (including the final) but ended with an A- in the class. Do the homework and you'll be fine!
I LOVED THIS MAN! He is hilarious and very helpful. He makes the class understandable and he takes it slow so that everyone can understand. His tests are thorough going through everything that you learn in class but as long as you have followed along, read through your notes, possibly skimmed the book or taken mastering bio quizzes you're golden!
had him for bio lab. he is fabulous and if you have a chance to take him, DO IT.
He was so dang straightforward. The only reason I didn't do well in this class was because I fooled around too much. Just pay attention to lectures. Read the chapters. You'll be fine. He's actually the easiest Bio 101 teacher at LUC. He's a real jokester too. Never a dull moment in his class.
I took him for Human Structure and Function Lab this semester and he was the highlight of my week. Practicals are easy as long as you study the manual and understand what was done. Probably the most caring professor in the Biology Dept.
To keep it short and concise, Dr. Duffie is caring and clear. Just don't fall behind because he comes off as easy. Listen during lecture, read the textbook, and you'll be good.
Definitely recommend taking him over any of the other professors. He really cares about making sure you learn and do well in his class. As long as you pay attention in class, you'll be fine. Take the notes as he gives them to you, look over the objectives he posts to blackboard before taking the tests, and do well on masterings.
Dr. Duffie has to be on of the best teachers at LUC. He's a fantastic teacher, very approachable, and very funny. His tests are fair, make sure you take good notes and study. This is actually a class I had fun going to, my friends and I always joke about going back in time to take his class. Fantastic teacher, take him for anything you can!
He's a fantastic teacher, you'll learn a lot from him and actually like coming to his lectures, especially if you're into more anatomical stuff which is covered in 102. His tests are fair and he's honestly one of the best LUC has. Take him at all costs!
I really loved Duffie! He's an amazing professor with a great sense of humor. I wouldn't say he's easy, but his tests are definitely fair. It's not hard to get an A if you put in the time studying. Highly recommend!
This guys really cares about what the students think and has a good grasp of our understanding of the knowledge.
Duffie is an amazing teacher. He posts his powerpoints online for the students to have access to. Plus, he always tries his best to clear up anything that students aren't understanding. It's an okay class; not easy, but not that hard. He's very funny and very charismatic and easy to talk to. He's a good teacher, gives extra credit and is fair.
He is a really great professor. The tests are very fair, he wont test you on anything that aren't in his powerpoints, also he drops your lowest test. Always go to lectures, missing one is missing a lot of info and in discussion he'll give bonus point clicker questions so don't miss that. Great professor.
Duffie is an awesome teacher. His tests aren't too bad and he is a great teacher. His class is really interesting and he rambles a little but it never bothered me. Discussions usually end early and you get points for being there.
Dr. Duffie is a fantastic professor! His class is not very hard and he explains the material thoroughly. The exams are easy if you study and pay attention during lecture. Discussion is not required. He's got a great sense of humor and is perfect for students who are enthralled with biology and those that just need a science credit. Love Duffie!
Duffie is an amazing professor. He takes an interest in his students to actually do well in his class. Attendance is not mandatory for discussions or class, but by attending you have a higher chance to earn extra credit. His tests are okay (not too easy and not too hard), but you have to study and prepare for them ahead of time. Def. recommend.
He's the man
If your a pre-med student and honestly trying your hardest in this class and still can't get an A (not even A-) I would recommend just stopping now, its going to be nothing but downhill for you from there. Great professor.
I have no idea what anyone else is talking about! He is not a good professor nor is he helpful. His tests are terrible and not easy to understand. He tries to confuse you on tests. Better go to lecture for clicker points or you will not pass!
This HIVAIDS class was my favorite class at Loyola by far! Duffie is an amazing professor and grades super fair. His lectures are interesting and he is really funny and entertaining. He almost tells you what will be on the test. I learned so much useful knowledge about the disease. Please take this class if you are in honors! You won't regret it!
He's a little tough, but what do you expect in a biology course? He teaches the material with as much ease as he can muster while intermittently showing you sides of his dry humor (still humor, nonetheless). He's like that weird uncle who your mom tries to keep you from visiting too often but, what the heck, he's a cool guy and really smart.
Terrible! Terrible! Terrible! Avoid!
one word: overrated (he's easy, so go for it)
Amazing Biology professor. Didn't really like biology up until I took him. Lectures are simple and clear. Homework is clear and gives a lot of extra credit. Gotta study for the exams and pay attention in class! Skip? you won't pass at all. Definitely possible to get an A in the class!
Dr. Duffie is an excellent teacher. There's a reason his classes are usually the first to fill up.
Great Professor! Go to every lecture and pay attention and write down EVERY single thing he says on the lecture slides (I recommend recording lectures and listening to them), read textbook before going to class, and use the study area on Mastering Bio. Easy A if you do all those things.
Amazing! Exams are based off of his lectures, pretty straightforward. Didn't need the book much. He practically spoon feeds you the info. Attendance is important for clicker points. Keeps class upbeat and entertaining
He is now my favorite professor at Loyola. Just take him if you can.
I love this man to death. He knows not to make this class difficult AND is really trying to make you have a good grade. He makes the lectures funny and they are not as long. Gives many extra credit, not much homework. TAKE HIM HIS CLASS FILLS UP FAST. Really, he is really helpful.
Duffie is a funny guy but lectures aren't very clear. Offers extra credit randomly for showing up to class&extra credit with mastering bio homework. 3 tests & a final, tests are hard to get A's on though because they're only 30ish questions and they're kinda tricky. Good guy but definitely have to work for an A and teach yourself outside of class
Duffie changed it up this semester. He used to be an Easy A teacher but now he is just an Easy B+ teacher. I compared new tests with his older tests and they are different. Makes you study hard for your grade. Class is boring. I recommend when studying to take practice tests from mastering.
He's a great person at heart and has a great sense of humor. I think his tests have gotten a lot more difficult lately, so you definitely need to try harder. His lectures aren't really that clear, so you need to know what you're doing. A good person nevertheless.
WE all came this semester with this idea that Duffie is a joke. So we all underestimated him and turns out, his tests got harder. He gets most questions from EasyNotecards. I had Jokinen, and his tests were pretty similar. BUT, he gives so much extra credit, and lets you retake a test which makes his class a joke yet again.
This class is not what it once was but if you work hard you can get an A pretty easily.
Among the most inspiring professors I've had. Test material comes from lectures, so I recommend attending each class with his powerpoints and writing down everything he says on each slide. I didn't touch the book and the masteringbio material isn't tested on. Don't skimp on the modules on biology research -- it can change your approach to biology.
Prof. Duffie made my first year of college bearable. He offers insane amounts of extra credit; if you go to class and pay attention, you will get an A. He gives "Unit Objectives" for each exam, they are very accurate so study them for the exams! If you can't pass Duffie, you may want to rethink your major. Put in the work and he will work with you.
Easiest bio prof. in my opinion for bio 101. Class wasn't difficult at all as his exams were straightforward questions. 4 exams around 30 questions for each and he lets you drop the lowest of your first 3. The final is exam 4 and it is not cumulative. Overall easy A teacher as long as you put in some effort in class.
TAKE DUFFIE. He's an amazing teacher and a great man to talk to. His lectures are clear and his exams are straightforward. He makes complicated concepts easy to understand.
I had Dr. Duffie for Nursing BIOL 152 lab. He is a very OKAY professor. The labs were very easy, but the whole point of them is to get you ready for the lab practicals. The practicals that he puts together, in my opinion, are quite tricky. Make sure to study a lot for these practicals, as they do effect your BIOL 152 grade!
Dr. Duffie is super clear about the material in his lectures. Although they are quite lengthy and sometimes boring, they are the key to acing the exam. His exams are straight forward and he is quite a jokster. I took AP Biology in high school so this course was a review. It is quite easy to get an A. Overall Dr. Duffie made Bio amazing and fun.
Definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are catching, interesting and inspirational. If you go to every lecture you won't even need to go through the notes again before the exam, because he is very clear and makes the subject fun! Exams all multiple choices, final not cumulative. No book needed, just pay attention in class
He was alright what was going to be on the test wasn't very clear though.
Very nice professor. Sometimes goes a little too fast during lectures, but is it's easy to follow along. Test material is very random and unpredictable but should be fine if you study your lecture notes and the powerpoints. Gives a lot of extra credit on his tests and the final isn't cumulative! If you did the group project, you basically get a 100
Terrible jokes. Seems nice, but he is irritated by student questions and condescending. He also avoided coming down to lab to be contact in other students. He made this one person feel so badly he started crying in the bathroom. Worse professor I've taken by far.
Duffie is definitely a good teacher! Like any other lab, you of course have to attend. For the quizzes every week, he asks what we want to be on them, and he sends out an email about what they will be focused on. For the practicals, you of course have to know everything as with any other lab. They're not too bad.
Textbooklab manual, go through powerpoints on Sakai to pass quizzes, go through old labs and ppts. for practicals, study and you'll be absolutely fine, don't miss a practical even if you're sick bc you have to make it up at the end of the year in the middle of finals week, best bio lab teacher! heard he's not that good for bio lecture though
Dr. Duffie is the best lab professor you can get. He knows the material like the back of his hand and you can tell he really cares about his students and their understanding of the content. He makes jokes that are usually pretty funny and does his best to make the class enjoyable. Weekly quizzes are easy. Practicals are hard, so study!
He is an amazing professor who loves to joke around. He makes sure to go over everything and makes sure the whole class understands before moving on. You have to go to lectures otherwise you will not pass the class. He also gives a lot of extra credit which really helps boost your grade if you do it.
Prof Duffie cares more about you understanding the material over everything else. His classes are challenging yet enjoyable. He put a lot of effort into entertaining us because of how tired everyone always looked. Our lab always got out early. The lab practicals are difficult so study the pics on the website, the quizzes and the completed labs.
Duffie is amazing. The exams are a bit hard, but do the objects he gives you, and you will understand. He rounds grades, which is a plus. He can be sarcastic but you will get used to it. He gives a lot of extra credit on mastering biology, and in class, so show up. If you study last minute, you can get a C- on the exam. Extra Credit will help alot.
Duffie is the best BIO 101 and 102 teacher. Everyone who hears about him wants to take him by second semester. Heres the thing most of those kids mistook. He's a nice guy, he gives a little extra credit and is pretty lenient, but you still have to put in the work! Just do the mastering without looking it up and pay attention in class.
Such a sweet human being who REALLY teaches and inspires his students. Looking forward to his Biol102 this semester!!
Dr. Duffie is the best. I had him for lab and he's very enthusiastic about the subject. He grades your labs for completion, and lets you know what is going on the practicals. Wish I could take another class with him.
He is a good professor but this semester his tests seemed very hard. He has 4 tests that are worth 85% of your grade. Mastering is not worth a lot of your grade but they are good practice. His tests are more of applying the material than just memorization. He is accessible outside of class.
My fav professor of all time. Had him for lab, cares about bio and teaching and his students so much. Also super funny. Will tell you what to study and more than willing to help at all times
Duffie is an actual god. The material is what makes the class tough. Any questions? Duffie will definitely help you.
I LOVE Dr Duffie! He is so refreshing and just wants all of his students to do well. He has awesome dad jokes - only thing is he knows most of his students are pre-health and expects them to do well. He's super helpful and going to lab is a joy everytime. Practicals are pretty easy, never anything unexpected or too horrible.
No matter how hard I studied I couldn't reach an A because there's just so much stuff. You would think you got a general idea, but the question will be something so insignificant + you would find it in like the most random place in the book. Duffie was the funniest teacher I have ever taken and I recommend him, just study hard and accept your fate.
Lecture was dry and hard to follow. Most of his tests didn't cover that discussed in class. He also assigned worksheets randomly, so if you skip, your grade may be adversely affected.
He is a super nice prof. He is willing to learn something new for your understanding as well. He is a lecture based prof so take notes in class. There are in class activities that will earn you extra points. Sit close to the front so he gets to know you! Some days it will be dry but others are enjoyable. Online hw quizzes. 4 non cumulative test
I was lucky have taken Dr. Duffie for 2 semesters and he is truly one of the greatest professors I've ever had. His tests are extremely straightforward, his lectures are never dull, and he genuinely cares for all of his students. He is very funny and engaged and as long as you do the work, you will do well. Oh, and he offers E/C ?'s each test!
Stunning. Incredible. Easily my favorite professor. Lectures make sense, exams reflect lectures, extra credit, corny jokes, what's not to love
Dr. Duffie is still my favorite professor ever. I wish I was able to have him for Bio 101 as well. His exams are really easy, and he makes the material easy to understand. There are a couple of random in person assignments, so you should show up to class. Get on the waitlist for his class ASAP because everyone wants to take him.
Duffie is 10/10 a good man and a great professor. This is the best lab I've taken at Loyola! He is very clear on what to expect and gives clear answers to what he's looking for. Also very motivational this semester and super nice. Love this dude.
Really cared for students during the pandemic. His quizzes and exams were very accessible and was willing to meet outside of class.
Professor Duffie is BY FAR the best professors on the planet. I believe anyone who has had him has nothing bad to say. The class is so easy and he is just such a great professor and person. He cares so much about his students and wants everyone to pass so he gives extra credit. Much love for him!!!!!!!
I love Dr. Duffie. He does really well with his lectures and makes sure that you understand the material. He is also very useful during office hours.
Seriously underrated. Honestly I feel like my class kind of took advantage of him considering how flexible and patient he was, so PLEASE BE NICE TO HIM. I LOVE THIS MAN. You have to work a little but that's true of any class worth taking. He is a very generous grader and genuinely wants to help you. 11/10!
quite literally the best professor i have ever had. made me enjoy going to class
