Dr. Gallup's passion for his work inspires his students. Evolutionary Psychology is a fascinating course...
AMAZING Professor, researcher and mentor. Knows his stuff. Mannerisms and intonation are enough to keep you awake in class if fascinating subject matter isn't enough.
gallup is probably the best teacher i ever had at suny. any dept, any class, anything. the man did the whole course without a single page's notes. fascinating & fun. other prof's could learn from watching him.
Gordon Gallup very good professor!
COOLEST GUY EVER! HIS LECTURES ARE LIKE WATCHING A MOVIE. HE'S VERY REVEALING WHEN SPEAKS! I'D GO EVEN IF I WASN'T REGISTERED JUST TO SIT THERE AND WATCH HIS GENIUS MIND AT WORK. DOESN'T USE ANY NOTES..IT'S ALL IN HIS HEAD. ORGANIZED LECTURES TOO!
Maybe it's just b/c of the class, but i CANNOT stay awake at all. seems like a nice guy and all, but oy. bo-ring.
I am a graduate of Gordon's from 1996 and happen to teach 8th grade science now on L.I. However, in all my years since being at Albany, no professor to this day has still ever made me want to do research or study evolutionary science as much as he did.AJ

This is the guy you want to take Research Methods with! If you come ready to work, you will leave this class having actually LEARNED something! Also, if you need help in his class, be nice, and go to his office hours. BEST PROF. E V E R !!!
Gallup knew his stuff, but his tests were way out there, most of the material on the test was stuff that you had to apply from psy210. is def not a professoer i would recommend, apparently neither do the Psych advisors here.
A genius at the wrong school. He should teach at Harvard or Colombia. Great lecturer, likes to enunciate, but tests are difficult and require a lot of memorization from lectures, so you better be at class. The guy can't use technology either.

He is the best professor I've ever had at UA -really knows his stuff & got me excited to learn about evolutionary psych. I looked forward to every class. Who else can stay on topic so well & lecture w/out notes? Genius! nice guy, too
Professor Gallup is an amazing professor-knows his stuff really well, but his tests are HARD. If you are up for going to every class and studying, take this course. If you are someone who doesnt go to class dont bother.
Professor Gallup was great, really knew his stuff and was easy to learn from.....but if you don't want to attend every class, don't bother, you won't pass, but who would want to miss his lectures, they are very interesting.
worst professor ever
just because you failed experimental doesn't mean he's the worst professor ever.
Fantastic. This guy is amazing. He seems to know everything. Yes, this will be the best course you ever failed. You will fail with a smile on your face.
I’m sure theres some method to his madness but I couldn’t find it. Smart guy but just lectures about whatever pops into his head. Had a great time trying to impersonate him though(you'll see if you take him). Loves making his tests impossib
If you need this class for an easy grade don't bother. His tests are very hard, but he does grade on a curve so it balances itself out. But if you want to be amazed at the genius of this guy, then take this class. His lectures are absolutley amazing. I could listen to him all day.
this man freakin rocks. hilarious.
talked about dinosaurs and rats with their periods all day! worst prof ever, but fun to make fun of. heard his evolution class rocks tho.
I graduated in 97 w/ a BA in Psych. Without a doubt, Gallup's Evolut. Psych class was THE most interesting class of ALL my college classes. I often think of different things I learned in his class & find myself coming up with new theories related to evolutionary theory. Tough tests. BRILLIANT class.
Vert smart guy but his tests were next to impossible. Take VERY good notes in order to stand a chance when it comes to his tests.
His tests are absolutley impossible. Even if you know the correct answer to the short essays, he won't give you even a bit of credit if it is not in his exact words. His pronunciation of words is weird and takes a lot of getting used to... AVOID THIS MAN AT ALL COSTS (unless you like failing!)
Def. one of the strangest courses I have ever taken. I too have done many impressions of him though. Quite the character, sick yet genius. Who else does experiments involving people smelling dirty tampons? I did okay, but I had to work for it.
Dr Gallup, is by far the most intelligent man in Albany. Tests are hard, but if u come to class and write down everything, youll be ok. Definitely the most interesting class i have ever taken in my life. I also took him 4 211 and that was boring but EVO was fantastic. "CUCKOLDRY, EMPIRICISM"
best prof in albany, hard but awesome.got a b+ in exp and a- in evo. curve is good and benefit of the doubt is even better. if u do bad at the beg. and do better he bumps up ur grade
Very intellectually stimulating and engaging. Gallup is a superb & brilliant prof, and quite a character in his own right. Tests arent easy, and the lectures require attention, but he is one of the best Albany has to offer. Be prepared to encounter new ideas and, thereby, be challenged & impressed.
The worst teacher in the Psych department. He is very interesting and intelligent but his tests are IMPOSSIBLE. Even if you write the correct answer, he will still mark it wrong unless it is in his exact phrasing.
Tests are impossible... he is very intelligent but he should be teaching graduate level courses, not undergrad.
Go to every class... take good notes, sit up front and THINK!... thats the key to an A in gallup's class. i did bad on the first exam cos i wasnt prepared but got a's on the second test and final.. first test doesnt matter... study hard and with other people... and an A in experimetnal isnt impossible.. short answers arent as hard as people say
Hardest professor ever! Tests come out of no where. First college class I ever did really bad in. Don't take him if you want to keep your GPA up!
hard class and soooo boring. You can do okay if you go to EVERY class and pay attention. But it is really hard to pay attention with the he talks. I pretty much wanted to kill myself every day in class. Great curve...study HARD

hes interesting, hes extremely intelligent, but his tests are impossible. i went to class, talked to the ta, read, and recopied my notes and still didn't pass. he needs to do something about his tests.
he's a very intelligent man with very interesting subject matters but don't hope for better than a c+ in this class...luckily it's all you need

This class should be required for everyone in the psych dept. Unlike most other classes this course offers a completely different perspective, rather than showing you the same information filtered from a different view.

He's VERY odd but this was the most interesting class I've ever taken.
i heart dr. gallup
The most dynamic lecturer ever. The info is fascinating. His tests are strait from the notes. People think he is hard cuz you have to think and he has essays on his tests. But I studied with a friend who took the class 2 yrs earlier. We smoked a bowl and talked about the material. I got an A. I recomend this course to anyone with a brain.
All in all: excellent
He was very intelligent and made calss very intersting. Sort of unsual... but I still remeber stuff he taught from a class I took years ago. If you pay attention.. it shouldnt be too hard to do well.
I took a two classes with Dr. Gallup during my undergraduate career and even now as a graduate student, he is still my favorite professor of ALL time. It pained me to hear people complain about the class because it wasn't a "cake walk." He is so much greater than most of those who take his class even know!!
One of the most dynamic lecturers I have ever seen.
Gallup is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's extremely intelligent and expects his students to keep up, which keeps class interesting. Although his classes aren't easy, his tests are always fair. He is a great lecturer with a lot of facinating information. So go to every class you'll do fine.
Hands down greatest professor I've ever had, perhaps at SUNY Albany. I go to every Tuesday and Thursday class, and the 80 minutes of time and six pages of notes I take seem to fly by. Take this class if you don't mind doing actual work for once, he is phenominal.
he is outta control and i cant believe these ppl gave him such a good rating i had to withdrawl from experimental bc of him dammit!!!
Wow, didn't understand anything this professor said. I'm sorry but this class was horrible. I recomend not taking it.
terrible! one of the worst prof. ive ever had!
Don't be put off by previous bad ratings. Dr. Gallup is a brilliant man and a fabulous lecturer, though many fail to realize it. This class opens a whole new perspective that is SO cool. The class isn't hard if you "get" it, but then again I guess that's why so many people dislike his classes.
great professor...hilarious....tests can be challenging...must attend every class...one of the best professors i've ever had....must take psy 385
Professor Gallup is a freakin' genius..........and all you retards rating him badly...the intellectual environment you grew up in was lacking greatly. CAn't wait to do research with you in the fall
I love Dr. Gallup. Probably the worst mistake I've made is not doing the Doctorate program with him. Absolutely the most dynamic teacher I've ever had. And he has great digit ratios.
Hard hard class.. i never missed a class and still failed. This was the first class i have ever failed!
Dr. Gallup is brilliant, the way he teaches will stay with you forever, it's a very hard class though, but is required for the psych. major, I went to every class and got a C, you need to go to ever class, and try to have study sessions if possible for tests and you'll get the C- you need.
terrible. DO NOT take Experimental with Gallup.
You have to study take, notes and listen but if you do you will learn alot and do fine. He is incrediable...don't take this class if you are afraid of thinking...or just plain having your mind blown. if you are looking for an easy A forget it this class is for those who love psych and independant thinkers.
Gallup is a brilliant man. He is by far the most intelligent professor I've had at SUNY Albany. His tests are hard but you actually learn something in the class. Can't wait to tak evolutionary!!!
excellent professor, difficult class
SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED. horrible. terrible. if you want your GPA to DIE then take this class
lectures do not pertain to test material, other teachers say, 'gallup, you gunna fail all your students againt his semester?'
there is little if any overlap between lecture and text book, which makes the class difficult. he also said that the second test wouldn't be cumulative, but the essay question covered material from the first third of class. if you do not go to every class you will not pass the tests.
You must attend every class in order to pass this class. If you are there, take notes, and actually listen to what he has to say you will do well. His class makes you think and is very stimulating, but you gotta be up for that in order to do well. Tests are rather difficult.
Awesome teacher. Very interesting and motivating. The class isn't easy, but it's well worth taking. Study hard and you'll do well. Always go to class.
Very nice guy, but makes the test impossibly hard and does not curve. if you take his class b ready to study for many hours every week
I really, really love this teacher and this class! He is a little bit crazy but it makes the class all the more interesting. The material is so interesting to me. The tests are 80% based on lectures, so you definitely need to go to every class!! The other 20% comes from the text, so it helps to at least have skimmed the chapters.
Probably the most interesting course that I have ever taken. Dr. Gallup is a unique individual and is a brilliant professor. You need to go to every class and take notes, lots of notes. Also, you need to read the text because ten percent of his exams contain material covered in the text. The course is not easy.
If you are the kinds of student who thinks you can pass by not coming to class and get notes from a friend, don't even bother taking his class. His exams make sure that only students who come to class everyday and actually think about the materials can do well. He's also got the mad scientist thing going for him.
HORRIBLE professor. very smart man but he can't teach. his notes are all over the place and he does not put any overhead up. also, the lecture and textbook do not correlate well. his tests are also very hard because his questions make no sense. also, there are 3 tests but the final is worth half the grade. i definitely DONT recommend this course
Im an A student, and a senior and i had to drop his class because and now take a summer class to make up for it, so i cant graduate on time. He gives 3 tests that no matter how hard you study for the multiple choice is almost impossible. He tries to make them difficult so that it will trip you up. No extra credit and no extra help.
Awesome, interesting, definitely take!
Well, the people below me are all crazy. Yea, i really hated this class the first couple of weeks but its one of those things you get use to. Now, i love it. I think the best part of this class is the review sessions with the TA. She really knows how to explain eveything in english. A++ class. seriously, give it a chance!
Gordon Gallup is not a genius. He is a brilliant manipulator. He fails to mention evidence, although there is an abundance of it, that is direct contrary to his studies. This class is pure BS! Never have I heard so many bogus hypothesis in one semester! Share your with any bio major. They will have a good laugh. Ironic seeing as bio + evo= 1!
Gallup is very passionate about his work & it shines through in lecture. Lectures are very captivating (and they are indeed backed up with a great deal of evidence) and in order to todo well you must show up to class on a regular basis, take good notes and know them inside and out. Very recommended, I loved going to class.
Dr. Gallup was a lot of fun. He made his class really interesting. He was a difficult teacher but was upfront about his expectations. I loved his class.
i went to every single lecture, every review session and studied extremely hard in this class....failed!! i have had a 3.8 gpa throughout my other semesters(im a senior) so im not a stupid person. hes a ridiculous teacher and i wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
I had a 4.0 Psych GPA until I took his class.... I even got an A in experimental.... I now regret my decision to sign up for his class. AVOID THIS MAN LIKE THE PLAGUE!
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Yes, his tests are VERY HARD. In order to do well, you have to make a point of getting used to the way he words his questions. He is set in his opinions to a point, but he is brilliant, explains concepts thoroghly and is always open to discussion. We'll see how my assessment holds up after Evo ;)
THE WORST IMPOSSIBLE CLASS WITH AN IMPOSSIBLE PROFESSOR AVOID HIM AND IF YOU NEED THIS CLASS TAKE IT WITH ANYONE ELSE KILLED MY GPA
Impossible teacher had to drop class because he wouldnt give any powerpoints or notes and would just talk about things not at all related to the book! All I ever learned from him was about spotting of space shuttles! BAD BAD BAD!
Great, brilliant, passionate professor--I took him for both Evo. Psych and Experimental, and I believe I've learned so much more through him than I have in any other course. It's hard, but worth it. Just take good, in-depth notes, and attend as many lectures as you can. I also enjoyed his speech and mannerisms.
Awesome professor who could explain anything in terms of evolution and biology.
Brilliant professor. can explain anything in terms of an evolutionary adaptation. he tests are extremly hard. he will make you feel like you never went to class. only a few questions on the test are from the book-the rest are taken directly from lecture. if you go to class, pay attention and do just a little bit of studying you can do well.
This honestly was the hardest class I have ever had to take. It really was impossible. He is brilliant and legitimately knows his stuff, yet I hardly understood anything. The book accounts for about 4 questions on each test the rest is from lectures. The curve was great, I'm pretty sure I more than failed every test but pulled a C- nonetheless.
Worst professor i've ever had
worst professor i've ever had, impossible to take notes in class, no powerpoint or other materials, hardly uses textbook, rarely gives the answer to the question that you asked, tests are impossible and questions are phrased in the most unclear and rediculous ways, despite what some of the other comments say absolutely do not take a class he teaches
If you take this class be prepared to go to every class, take extensive notes, and read the textbook. There are no powerpoints, no study guides, no extra credit. Its all on you. Two tests and a cumulative final. There is a lot of material to remember for each of the tests and the wording is tricky. Still, a worthwhile class!(and the curve helps!!!)
Great class. Professor is tough and exams are hard. Take notes and attend class, if you study notes before the tests you should be fine. Don't expect to do well if you're not motivated. I was happy to go to this class because the material was very interesting.
very challenging, but very interesting! just listen and write down everything he says...
Stay Awayyyy!! I couldnt understand one word this guy ever said and his tests were out of control because he would put things in the test from lectures and even if you went after class to ask what he said he wouldn't wanna help or make time for you. I have a 3.6 gpa so its not cuz I couldnt understand the material I just couldn't understand what h
Just don't do it. Smart man, but it's almost like he isn't speaking English. I have a 3.4 and had to drop this course to keep it. If you take it, be prepared. No homework, essays, projects, or other material, only tests (and very hard ones at that). Never felt so discouraged about a class in my life! Sorry Doctor Gallup...
Anyone who dislikes this class needs a reality check. Period. This professor is beyond amazing, but if you own less than half a brain, I suggest that you don't take this class. Only close-minded individuals complain about a professor who so clearly is one of the best in his field. I loved the class and I was inspired; to me, that says something.
Passionate about the field. You must attend every lecture to do well on the tests. The tests are very fair, if you attend the lectures and pay attention then you can answer the questions. You need the text book; it doesn't help to clarify the lecture material, but some questions from the test are based off assigned readings. Not too hard.
Very interesting and challenging class. You cannot miss any class though and must study the assigned readings thoroughly because the test will have random questions from them. Make sure to study for the final exam for a long time. I studied for 6 hours at least and it was not enough.
I found the subject matter to be very interesting but it kind of deceives you when you attend a class. It seems fun until the tests comes and has completly random questions from the text in it. I thought I was doing good in this class until the grades came out for this semester. I am still shocked he even said the highest first test grade was a 70.
Smart Professor. If you are looking to be challenged, take this class. 3 tests (final is worth more than the first two tests put together). If you are looking for an easy A, dont take this class. Tests are multiple choice and random essay questions. Went to every class, knew the material and failed. TA was very helpful
One of my favorite professors. He was articulate and not afraid to push the accepted envelope.
One of the most thought provoking classes you can take. You should def take his lectures with a grain of salt as he tends to go out on a limb way beyond the data and say things that are preposterous... but he also has a ton of gold to teach so just listen and think for yourself! He's a truly unique character and you will not be bored in his class!
awesome teacher, knows his facts but you have to go to class. the material is interesting, tests can be difficult so be prepared.. great class, i really enjoyed it, a little bit of a challenge
You have to go to class!! Interesting class, really nice guy. Challenging tests you will fail if you don't attend the lectures.
Brilliant, inspiring, difficult, great lecturer, there is much to learn from this fascinating guy.
Really smart professor. Keeps your attention by EMPHASIZING just about EVERY other WORD. Attendance not mandatory, but you pretty much need to go. Only grades are 3 tests, terrible grading format/system, but if you're legit enough (like me) you'll be able to handle it. If you complain a lot and are afraid to put in effort you'll do terrible.
difficult class mostly because you must follow his lectures precisely and take notes on every word he says. not very helpful outside of class, so you must make the effort if you need help. DONT MISS CLASS, theres no way to get the notes back (he uses no slides, and the textbook never reflects his teaching) smart man, but demands a lot of work
Genuine lecturer, chalk and blackboard. Brilliant, compelling, difficult, worth it.
This man offers students a look outside the box and offers real research to support his theories. The class requires work; which if you are lazy or accustomed to skating by on your high school methods of learning then the class is not for you. You need to attend every lecture to do well and take notes. If you don't do well you are to blame not him.
This man is a GENIUS. It's really hard to get an A, but it's worth it for the material that is taught- you'll be fascinated, and Gallup is an expert in the field. Changed the way I looked at the brain, psychology, and human behavior as a whole. If you're into psychology or evolution and you miss this class, you're making a big mistake. Take it.
I took both experimental psychology and evolutionary psychology with him. The material is very interesting and he teaches it well. As long as you go to the class and look at the textbook, you will do well. But you do have to put in the time, his test are a little difficult. But I promise you'll really enjoy his classes.
I went into this class with little or no interest (it is required) and fearing the worst based on previous comments about Dr. Gallup. But I've been pleasantly surprised. He's a very interesting man who uses a lot of examples in his lectures that really drive home the point of what he's covering. He's also brilliant and I've learned a lot.
This professor is amazing. His classes are really interesting, but his tests are quite difficult. Read questions carefully. Must attend EVERY class, and it you don't plan on it, don't take his class. He is absolutely brilliant however, and speaks with such enthusiasm and certainty it's hard not to pay attention.
FANTASTIC COURSE. Fascinating material taught by an amazing professor. I'm convinced Gordon Gallup is the most brilliant and most awesome man in the world.
I have taken every class Professor Gallup has to offer. I took Evo Psych 1st and was hooked. He is awesome, talks with such conviction and passion. Class is interesting again! If you don't go to class don't waste your time, you won't pass. But if you are willing to learn and study hard take this class. Truly one of the best teachers at UA.
He was the best teacher I've had at ualbany, his class may seem hard since it is a lot of note taking but if you study the notes and attend class you're golden. I always enjoyed going to his class and if I had to miss it I was actually upset which is saying something since I normally dread going to class. BEST CLASS EVER!
Good class, gotta go to class notes only available by lecture. Material interesting, he is a good lecturer. My main problem is too much weight on the final. Over 50% of grade on final when we had 2 other tests. Not an easy testgiver either. Tough mc questions. I reccomend the class but be careful of final study up.
Absolutely Brilliant! I have taken experimental with him as well and I can attest, you will gain a massive amount of knowledge and insight from this man. Superb on all counts. His test can be tricky, so form a study group, the more you are ale to talk about the material the better and more rewarding all his classes are.
He is the by far the best professor at Albany. He knows the material up and down. Gives a great, organized, and stimulating lecture. If you want to get you moneys worth take him, be prepared to attend class and study though.
This is the class & professor to take at SUNY Albany. It will change your life. Must go to class and take good notes to do well.
Great class, interesting, take good notes,80ish for an A, interesting but not true, apparently correlation proves causation, pseudoscience, but interesting though
Class is interesting. Wish he gave notes typed out or on overhead rather than just needed to take specific as possible notes while he speaks. Knows material well enough to get it through to students. No form of reinforcement though. Seems to grade fairly. Goes on about needing to be there ev. day but doesn't help much to go unless good notetaker
Attendance is mandatory!About 85% of the test is on material that was covered in class.Even if you do attend class you have to take amazing notes to get an A.He even states that 30-40% of students receive a C- or worse in his class. For that reason he has a crazy curve. But overall great professor! ill takee him again.
In order to do well you have to write down everything that he goes over in class, which is near impossible. He doesn't offer slides or notes. You can't miss a single class because you'll miss taking notes and be unprepared for test. Majority of test questions come from lecture
I agree that a lot of what he says comes off a bit pseudo-scientific. However, his lectures and style of teaching keep you very interested. Put plainly, he's incredibly smart. However, you MUST go to class and actively pay attention if you hope to do well. Nonetheless, the class is very worthwhile.
You MUST go to every class. You MUST take good notes. You MUST read the textbook. There are 2 exams and a final. Your grade is curved by getting 65% of the second highest grade. Overall, awesome teacher who is highly intelligent and keeps you interested the whole time. If you're a slacker, don't bother taking this class because you won't pass.
Best professor I ever had. He is absolutely brilliant. Definitely a challenging class, but completely worth taking.
Gallup is crazy brilliant. His classes are challenging and very interesting.
Difficult, but very intelligent professor, one of the smartest I've ever had. You have to go to every class and listen to everything he says, but you'll definitely learn something if you pay attention.
The best professor ever. If you didn't do well, it's because you weren't invested.
Very interesting course. Learned awesome things. His lectures are not avaiable outside of class so it is better to show up. Tests are difficult, but curved.
You will learn everything you ever wanted to know about sex and most things you didn't want to know. Then you will take MC exams which are really difficult only because he gives 3 answers and the 4th choice is 2 of the above and the 5th choice is all of the above. This will cause you to second guess every single answer and frustrate you.
He is extremely smart and knows the material well, however it is an extremely difficult class. The average on each test was around a 65, basically half the class failed. He curves it up, but when half the class is failing it means either the professor is not teaching the material properly, or the material is just too difficult.
3 tests based on lecture notes and separate readings. Contrary to popular belief his notes are clear and precise, and yes his test can be challenging but that is why he curves them! The whole point of school is to challenge yourself. Go to class and do your readings and you will be fine
WARNING YOUR PERFORMANCE IN THIS CLASS IS NOT A FUNCTION OF YOUR TIME INVESTED. I voice recorded his course because all your exams are based off what he says in class. This got me a C. I'm a 3.5 student. I attended all review sessions. reviewed my notes, and am even passionate about the subject, and have been since before taking his course.
Probably the most interesting class I've taken. LOVED the class, loved the material, super interesting. BUT, the tests do not necessarily test your knowledge. I could explain the material to a t. Unfortunately, his tests are extremely ambiguous and he rarely gives full points to the essay questions, if any at all. Cumulative final. Impossible!
Interesting class, nearly impossible to do well. I attended every lecture, took detailed notes (which you have to do because he doesn't use slides) read the txbk, attended review sessions. However, the structure of his exams are unfair and made to confuse you. Even if you're extremely dedicated to this class, its highly unlikely you'll get an A
I was not particularly interested in taking this course when I enrolled. However, it is the most fascinating course I've had in school. Most people find the class difficult, but if you attend class, take good notes, read the book and study, you should do fine. Gallup is brilliant. Best professor at this school.
The hardest professor at UAlbany. His lectures are old school (chalk board). He doesn't use slides or give notes. If psychology is your passion, this is your man. If you are trying to just pass, he is your worst enemy.
He is brilliant. Go to class. Take notes with computer if you are able to because he talks fast and you will definitely need to write it down. Study and you will do well. 3 tests. No quizzes, papers, or homework. He has a sense of humor and can be very engaging if you're into the subject. He is the best teacher for experimental psych.
Avoid at all costs!!! I absolutely love psych. I studied and memorized all of my notes. His tests are based on trivial overly specific questions. There's no one anyone could write down every single thing he ever says which is completely necessary. Also textbook questions completely unrelated to class. Seriously avoid.
Stay far far far away from. He even tells you that only 40% of the class passes on the first day!! Only take him if you're interested in what his opinion is considering anti depressants or want to hear him accentuate every other word as if it extremely profound.
Prof Gallup is a brilliant man with many interesting theories, but he is not the greatest professor. He expects a lot of his students and attendance is crucial. If you aren't willing to put in a lot of effort do not take this class. Best suggestions would be to take detailed notes, focus on bold words and defs in text and attend class every day.
Terrible teacher, nearly impossible to do well in this class. Your best bet is to pick the other professors that teach this class. His topics are all over the map and even with attending every class you still don't know what he's saying.
Took Evolutionary Psychology and I learned so much. Take if you want to become better educated and knowledgeable. This is a good topic to learn about because it relates to everything psych related but from a totally novel view and you'll be in good hands. Take Evo Psy with Gallup Jr.
Evolutionary Psych with Prof Gallup was an extremely interesting class. I often found myself telling my friends all about the cool things I learned in the class. The tests were challenging and it was difficult to do well. Sometimes I had trouble understanding him. But overall, this class was hard, but kinda worth it cause it was so interesting!
Professor is intelligent, although it is nearly impossible to do well. He is all over the place during lecture and it is difficult to understand where he is at. Hard too do well on his tests and I never missed a class. Would not recommend him at all!
Professor Gallup is brilliant. By far the most interesting class I have ever taken, I loved every minute of it. Must go to class and take good notes but if you do then you should do well. This is definitely not an easy A, but an A is achievable if you sit close, pay attention, and write down everything he says. I only read the chapter summaries.
This guy is so confusing he makes you learn his own personal views and theories applied to concepts you learn in the class, worst teacher I've ever had, switch schools before you take this guy
Dr. Gordon Gallup is the most intelligent professor at the University at Albany. I have never learned and retained so much information in a single class. Go to EVERY class, take detailed notes and an A is attainable.
Gallup is an AMAZING professor. Passing his class is more than just taking notes you have to understand the material. The book is necessary but notes & attendance is crucial to passing . Took Experimental and got an A hoping the same for Evo. To get an A you really have to have an understanding of the points he is trying to make.
This class is not an easy A, but it was one of the most interesting classes I have taken. He teaches from his own mind, which makes it unique. Three tests. The final in cumulative. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go to take the notes, which he writes out on the board. Very old school teaching. No blackboard. No extra credit.
The first is worth 50points, Second is worth 75points and third is worth150 points. Each test is about 30-35 multiple choice questions followed by 3 short essay questions. To pass you just have to go to each lecture and take good notes. No extra credit. Your grade will be curved based on overall class performance so hope there are some idiots there
This man is a genius. His class was super hard for me but he was always willing to help and he's super friendly. You will not pass if you're not willing to do the work but it is absolutely worth it.
Terrible teacher. If you accidentally sign up for this class, drop it before it's to late. Losing your financial aid money and taking out a loan is better than taking his class. Gallup is a terrible teacher and a very opinionated man.
although he is very knowledgeable, he is a terrible teacher! i have a 3.8 GPA and i am most likely failing this class.. He paces when he lectures and is not clear when explaining material...i STRONGLY advise you DROP his class ASAP!
Gordon is awesome. He's very intelligent and his class greatly changed my perspective on human behavior. He's inspiring an intelligent. His tests are very hard but possible to do well. go to class, take good notes, read your notes before the test and you're good. DON'T SKIP CLASS. You can't. He curves his tests also based on the average.
Gordon Gallup's classes are like weekly TED talks. He is extremely invested in his role as a teacher and passionate about evolutionary psychology - as made evident by the manner in which he lectures. The material alone is very interesting if you are considering the topic. Now, his classes are great, but be prepared to take detailed notes for exams
Don't take him, PERIOD
DO NOT TAKE GORDON GALLUP. I would not wish this class upon my worst enemy. He stands there and writes gibberish notes on the board and talks out of his own head, and if you do not memorize every single thing he says you will not pass the exam. He does not care about you or your grade. The way he asks questions on exams are nearly impossible.
He is a difficult professor, but go to class, pay attention and write down as much as you can. Read and highlight the textbook to study over again and read the summaries in the back of each chapter. You'll be fine. He has a huge curve in the class a 76 is in the A range. And you actually earn your grade and learn something.
Professor Gallup is one of the most intelligent professors I've ever come across. If you take this class you're bound to learn tons about humanity and human behavior. Gives 3 tests over the course of the semester that increase in worth. Beware professor does not use any sort of technology, notes are written on blackboard with chalk each class.
I took both of Gallup's classes Evolutionary psych and experimental psych in the same semester (not recommended) and I loved and hated his classes. To do well go to every class, take good notes and study every single note you took also don't get discouraged if you don't do well on the first test, huge curve and you will get the hang of his tests
Gallup is a very interesting person teaching a very interesting subject. You need to put in effort to do well in the class, he does not use any technology to supplement his lectures so taking great notes is a must. 3 tests, final is cumulative and all are curved. If you come to class, take good notes and go to the review sessions you will do fine.
Gordon Gallup is brilliant professor. Yes, his tests are extremely difficult. But if you go to every class and actually listen to what he says and take DETAILED notes, you will do well. You will learn more information in this class than in ANY of your 300-400 level classes. I highly recommend Dr. Gallup to anyone!
Dr. Gallup's enthusiasm and lecture style is engaging and entertaining. He is certainly wedded to his ideas. It must be so nice to have a job where you can theorize and hypothesize about human behavior in an evolutionary context. Proving anything is a stretch, however. You really need to understand the material to do well on the exams.
Gallup is a great professor, his lectures are always interesting and sometimes enjoyable. Dont make the mistake on skipping the reading, i did for the first test and almost fainted when i saw my grade. No worries just do the readings, study, go to the TA's review session which i highly recommend. Got an A-, and loved the class.
He is just the greatest. Incredibly intelligent. Lectures are exciting, he's quite entertaining . He's done so much amazing work in the field that if you are a psych major you will be taught about him in other classes. Tests are hard but there is a nice curve. Approachable and very helpful. I would recommend him for any class.
By far my favorite class in 4 years. Gallup is dynamic and inspiring and makes you think. His stories and examples can be dramatic. The tests are straightforward you just need to really know your stuff. Definitely recommend.
He is a very inspirational professor and I do like the material he did teach us. You have to go to class everyday and take good notes to pass since it is lecture and he does not do powerpoint slides. Also, you have to study every single day and memorize everything since his tests tend to be very hard..
Tough class. Never skip and make sure you study the entire semester because he has pop quizzes randomly. Tests are really tough too. If you keep improving on your exams he bumps your grade to the next letter grade.
You CANNOT miss class, he doesn't have slides and if you miss one you miss a lot. He gave 7 pop quizzes (or something) and 3 exams. The first was worth 50 points, the second 100, and the third is 150 (or something). There is an insane curve, and bumps your grade if he sees improvement. By far my favorite psychology professor, he's super helpful.
He gives pop-quizzes which are usually graded same day, his tests are all curved as is final grade. About 30% of each test is straight from the textbook which he DOES NOT go over, the rest is all on class material. 3 short answers on every test the rest are multiple choice. His speech is very methodical and slightly awkward, but he's great.
Very interesting professor. Lectures are like story telling. Take lots of notes. Make sure you are listening to everything he says because it will come up on the pop quizzes. Exams were hard, but he gives major curve at the end of the course. 90% of exams are on lectures and not on the book. Enjoyed the class.
If you are looking for an easy A, keep looking. If you are looking to learn from an experienced professor who doesn't recite the textbook but actually is invested in the material and his class--stop here. You must come to class, you must pay attention and take detailed notes. You must read. One of the best classes I have ever taken.
Great professor, I enjoyed his course. The class consists of two exams and a final. First exam 75 points, the second 100 & the final 200 points. Make sure to do all the readings as there will be multiple choice questions on the exams based on the readings. GO TO CLASS and take very detailed notes, these are essential to doing well in the course!
Amazing course. One of the few classes I've taken that wasn't spoon fed from a textbook or powerpoint slide. Make sure to come to every class and take notes. Grades are based on the class average so don't panic when you see your raw score. I got two "B's" on the two exams and 164/200 on the final. That got me an A. Hard course but a rewarding exp.
Easily the best class I have taken at this school. Dr. G is an old school prof. No powerpoints just speaking. Write down everything he writes. The textbook is such an easy read. Tests have mc & short answer. If you don't know your stuff you won't do well. Answers can be tricky. 1 short answer was worth 45pts but the answer was 1 sentence.
Overall worst professor Ive ever had. Lectures are long, monotonous, he trails off at the end of his sentences, and blackboard is a foreign concept to him. Tests are incredibly difficult and there are only 3, but dont worry, students usually do so terrible that he curves the test almost 30 points.
Probably the best class that Ive taken thus far. Gallup is very old school and uses the chalkboard and talks for the entire hour and 20 minutes. He is very passionate in what he does. He makes you work for your grade. His exams are pretty difficult, I suggest recording him if you arent a fast writer, but study everything.
I had a very hard time in Gallups class as the material on the tests barely reflected the lecture notes and most students I talked to did very poorly. Lectures are hard to understand and often he runs off topic. If you miss class you miss a significant portion of material.
This class was super difficult, I don't feel like I've learned much at all throughout the entire semester. The lectures are boring and I can't understand a lot of what he says in class. The notes are unorganized and done on a chalk board which made them scattered and hard to copy.
There is absolutely NO reason for a 200 level course to be so difficult towards students. His lectures were hard to follow, he wrote on the chalk board small and illegible, and he used crazy examples. 3 tests only. #1- 65 pts, #2-100 pts, final 200 pts. Only grades in the class, meaning final was worth MORE THAN #1 & #2 AND it's cumulative.
Lecture slides have little to no correlation to the textbook. You have to attend every lecture but even with that there is still no guarantee youll even pass. Lectures are ridiculously hard to follow, he jumps from one idea to another in the matter of seconds . The TA does not help either. Terrible professor that makes what could be easy difficult
This has been the worst class, I have ever taken. I was completely lost the entire semester. He is not very helpful during office hours and neither was his TA. He writes everything from memory on the chalk board. His notes are not the greatest. He requires a textbook but he never discusses the materials in the book, but he uses it for the exam.
Only things he grades are 3 exams and most of the info is on the lecture. In class now and he's talking about how there is nothing we as a society can do to deter rapists from raping, other than offering legalized prostitution so males are attracted to consensual sex. Don't even take this class unless you're ready to hear some bull.
He is so Intelligent, please do give him a chance , when I first started the class I was on the edge about his teaching style because it is so old school but once you get used to it you learn so much and he opens up your world. Just make sure you go to class and take good notes, Because you will have to study.
I really liked his style of teaching. He is very old school and lecture heavy. Mostly writes on chalk board so attendance is mandatory. Grades are made up of 3 exams. Multiple choice and short answer. You MUST study and read!!! Professor Gallup knows his stuff and the subject is definitely very interesting. Wish I could take this course again!!!!!
One of the worst classes Ive taken in my life. The course was confusing, primarily because this professor is one of those accredited geniuses and he writes everything on the board from memory, gives you nothing to review on your own. You dont really know what your learning because its so aimless
I took Psych from Gallup in 1970 at Tulane. Classes were hugely popular -- 150 when the norm was about 30. He talked and did simple demos. I wrote and studied everything he said. Exams were hard, requiring application, not just regurgitation. Really earned the grade. Learned a lot about human behavior that I still use today. Great instructor!
