Amazing lectures, doesn't put notes online so you have to go to class.
If you need to take Econ MAKE SURE YOU TAKE GORDON LEE . He's funny and actually cares about ur grade and wants u to pass . His exams r exactly like his practice exams . And u dnt even need to open the txt book once , he even admits it .
Gordon was incredible. I took this class as a 4th year elective and I was very surprised. His notes are concise, his stories are funny AND relevant to the material. He made everything very easy to understand, explained concepts really well. His midterms were fair and he gave you the question break down before the test. Oh and his tats are rad asf
He's a great professor and his lectures are clear. He also uses great examples to get the message across BUT, his exams are pretty hard so make sure to study!!! His exams are also strictly from lecture notes too! He doesn't post his notes online so make sure to come to class!!
Fantastic Prof. Makes even the most boring material entertaining. I recommend that you take his class on Tuesday and Thursday because his classes go by pretty fast. Be warned his exams are tough. But he does give many practise exams which are really helpful. Easy to get a good mark if you work hard.
Best professor i've had. Take his ECON 101 class if you want to have a good time learning some interesting material. Amazing lecturer and very helpful in office hours. Beware: hard-ish tests, but he gives practice exams that are identical to the tests in wording and length.
Best prof ive ever gotten
Great prof had him for my econ 204 class. To all the first year engineering students, take this class at your own risk. With the abundance of 2nd, 3rd and 4th years in this class the curve can be haunting.
Dr. Lee is a wonderful prof for econ 101. He tells lots of stories and makes his lectures very interesting. This was a very easy course and the material was kinda boring, but Dr. Lee teaches it in a way that is interesting and easy to remember. His tests are also very fair and are based solely on the lecture notes taken in class.
Overrated. Great story teller but far from being an outstanding/fantastic prof. Expects you to know some words that you probably have never heard of unless you've taken economics before. Brutal exams especially for an elective. Take 101 with Mesbah if you want that 4.0
Great guy and makes a boring course entertaining with wild stories. He's admitted that he's a pathological liar but it makes the class more fun. Doesn't use eClass or post notes online so if you skip get ready to fail, even if you miss a certain part of the notes good luck with that. Go for him if you have a friend with you in that class as well.
This man was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He made a dull course interesting and did so through amazing stories and lectures. I'm sure this is just going to go into the void with all his other rave reviews but Gordon Lee really does deserve all of them. TIP: attend all the lectures and don't buy the physical textbook.
Gordon Lee truly care about his student's success. He has office hour every day a week before the final.
Best teacher at the university of Alberta.
Gordons a great prof! I took his class last year and his tests were harder than your average econ test but if do the practice exams and study hard this class is doable. Very helpful at office hours. Very food at drawing out and explaining hard questions on his practice exams.
Best prof ever! Really enjoyable lectures. Tests only on lectures, be prepared to draw lots of graphs. Always do the practice tests, always at least a couple questions from them on the tests. Good Tues & Thurs class. Brutal tests though! Gives a good outline of what will be on the test and how many questions from each section. Would take again!
Does not use powerpoints, which is fine for math/graphs but this course had quite a large amount of policy discussion which led to lectures being slow as he wrote out paragraphs of words on the board. Had some interesting stories and good jokes. Exams were fair
Very good and makes lectures interesting. His tests are tricky in the wording of the questions, but he tells you this on the first day. Made long morning Tuesday/Thursday classes go by much faster. Always had good and relevant stories to tell the class. Midterms were a bit difficult but the final was easy. Would definitely recommend.
Amazing Professor! He cares a lot about his 400+ students he teaches each semester. Will always give you as much help you ask for in his office hours. Tests are challenging and written directly from his notes. Textbook isnt necessary but will help with material. HAVE TO GO TO CLASS!
You will never find a better professor than Dr. Lee. He is so intelligent but still makes course material accessible to all students. He is so funny and his stories are amazing! He also cares so much about his students, you can always go into his office hours if you don't understand and he never makes you feel dumb or unwelcome!
Gordon Lee was amazing! He kept boring material in lectures interesting and told lots of stories to help us understand. You have to show up to class, since he doesn't use eClass. He gives good notes and tests only on lecture material. His midterms were a bit tricky in their wording, but the final was easy. Would definitely recommend.
Gordon lee is a great prof. He makes lectures interesting, however you need to work for the marks. Tests can be tricky. But you don't need to buy the physical textbook, tests only on lecture notes. hi
Gordon Lee is the man if you're thinking about taking Econ. He makes the materials way more interesting than they actually are.
Don't. Skip. Class. That's it. Good luck!
Gordon Lee is an amazing prof. You have to go to class unfortunately because he doesn't post his notes. I would've had a far higher mark if I had not skipped class. Gordon is also hilarious and somehow finds a way to make material exciting when it shouldn't be. I never opened the textbook once so don't bother.
Gordon Lee is an unreal prof! He makes lectures an absolute joy to be at and I felt guilty when I missed one. He doesn't post notes online but he gives you ample time to copy notes while he is lecturing. All his tests and assignments were based off lecture notes and the mid terms and finals were not hard at all. All round great guy and prof.
Gordon Lee makes lectures enjoyable. His exams are tricky with their wording. He does not post notes online and his exams are based solely off of the notes you copy down in class. Overall he is a very good professor.
I always found his lectures interesting, funny, and engaging. He tests from his notes, so going to class and having friends in his class are a must. His tests are tricky but not impossible; you must read his questions carefully. There are two midterms and a final. There are also small easy online assignments most weeks. No papers.
Best economics prof the school has. Explains complicated subjects in easy to understand terms. You have to go to the lectures as he doesn't really use the book and just grades on what's in the notes. He has funny and entertaining lectures
Amazing Prof, his lectures are the greatest and funniest things ever. Only texts on lecture notes and gives you everything you need to pass the class
He is an amazing lecturer, super organized, and knew his stuff. The online assignments are a solid way to boost your grade. His exams are hard, he tells you that, but you cant just study, you need to know and be able to apply the info. The only way to get his notes are to go to lectures. Challenging course overall
Great professor, you can tell he's had decades of experience teaching. Lectures are memorable and informative, there's a small handful of things not in lectures you'll have to study for.
Dr. Gordon Lee is a great prof! His lectures are always fun & clear; you'll never get bored in his class ever. He's that good of a prof that you wouldn't want to miss his class as respect to him. If I was able to allot enough time to study for the second midterm I would have gotten a higher grade, but I'm happy with what I got.
Ahlie this man been out here fam, he gave mans A+, hes blessed, take his class say no more, hella funny.
Awesome Prof, makes an hour and a half class go by with ease and the midterms and finals are tested explicitly off of his lecture notes, no textbook needed but you will need an alpha code.
Solid teacher. Knew his stuff and made it interesting, joked a lot, and made the examples relevant. Lots of stories. Had to pay for Aplia but the assignments were reasonable and you got three tries. Midterms and final were moderately difficult, if you study and show up you'll be fine.
Great Prof! His lectures keeps his lectures interesting and entertaining, with plenty of good examples and humour. He also only tests on his lectures, so no textbook needed at all. He's very approachable, and helpful during his office hours. Doesn't post his lectures, so you do need to go to class to get good notes. Would recommend!
Gordon Lee is 100% the best economics professor at U of A. His lectures are informative and actually relevant to the midterms and final. His notes are very clear and extremely detailed. All of his midterms and finals have clear grading criteria which he tells you before hand, making studying much less time consuming and stressful. God bless Gordon.
Gordon was a solid choice for Econ 101. He is funny and explains Economics quite clearly. I met him outside of class and he loaded my arms with previous midterms to study. He is a super caring and talented teacher. One of U of A's best professors.
Tests could be challenging, but very interesting lectures, has a lot of relevant real world examples, outlined criteria to study before exams, very helpful with answering questions. I recommend.
The most important lesson that you will carry with you for the rest of your life: Economists suck at naming theories.
Simply put, Gordon Lee is far and beyond the best prof at the UofA. Not only does he make lectures interesting and informative, but he also keeps them entertaining. He teaches exceptionally well using relevant real-world examples and is very clear on what he expects and what will be tested on. Also he is a Red Wings fan.
Gives interesting and engaging lectures, you won't be bored. You need to go to class to get the notes, he doesn't post them online. Midterms and final have very tricky wording, you need a thorough understanding of the course to pass.
GREAT PROF. Makes Econ a breeze. Taking Econ for the first time just as an option, Gorden Lee's lectures, notes, and excellent way of teaching made this course a GPA booster. Highly recommend !
Gordon Lee is honestly my boy. He makes the class harder than any other econ section, but that's because he teaches so well. Make sure to read the questions carefully as they can sometimes be a little tricky. He gives amazing lectures and I found I barely had to study since each lecture was always pretty memorable. Do yourself a favor and take him.
I found Mr. Lee to be an amazing prof. He always spoke clearly during his lectures and would often tell entertaining stories to give us a break from writing. He ensures that everyone has the opportunity to get everything down in their notes, which is really helpful. His exams are doable if you study intelligently and do the practice exams.
I loved Gordon Lee as a prof and I loved his class. He made class fun and interesting. He doesn't post lecture notes or test out of the textbook so class is mandatory. Although the content in class is easy the tests are fairly hard and require in depth understanding of the material to score very well. Overall I would recommend this class/prof.
Gordon Lee was honestly the funniest prof I have ever had. He was so inspirational and witty - every class was interesting and fun. However, he doesn't post notes online. So if you don't show up to class, you're practically doomed. His tests cover only what he teaches and before each one, he gives you a clear outline of what is on the test.
Dr. Lee is a good guy & he tries to make the class as interesting as possible. He is very funny & tells lots of really irrelevant (yet interesting) "stories." I say it like that cause who knows what's even true haha. Tests were honestly extremely hard & I wouldn't retake mostly because I understood the content but the application seemed impossible.
Made class entertaining and fun although they were almost mandatory to attend since he doesnt post lecture notes online. Tests were challenging but fair if you understood the material and could apply it to situations. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS and ask him for more or try to find older ones! Some questions are re used which are free marks! Best prof!
Gordon Lee is the most engaging lecturer I have seen thus far in university. He manages to keep students coming back to class, even though the material is easy. Definitely the best prof I've had. If you're on the fence about taking ECON101, you won't regret taking it from Gordon Lee.
Super engaging lectures. Attendance is mandatory as he tests completely from his notes, and doesn't post notes online. Tests problem solving ability, rather than just a regurgitation of information. Straight memorization won't work - you need to understand the material.
Best prof I have had. Amazing lectures. Tells you what will be on the midterms/finals. I would highly recommend attending class as he does not post notes online. However, if you miss one of his classes you can always go to his office and he will photocopy the notes for you. 10/10 prof
An overall fantastic prof. He has a great sense of humor and an engaging personality. Econ was definitely more interesting with Gordon teaching it. However, his pacing is a little fast, and he doesn't post notes on eclass. (He doesn't use eclass at all). I would recommend finding a friend or peer that you can ask for notes just in case.
Best prof I have had this year. His classes are engaging and funny. Time flies being in his lectures. Econ never interested me, but having Gordon inspired me to learn it. He is also very understanding and respected.
Hes a really great prof! Cares about what he teaches and is very good at teaching it. His stories are memorable and hes not boring at all. Made the class very easy due to teaching it well.
He's an amazing professor. His notes are very clear. Although there is a lot of writing, he will always stop his lecture to give students time to write stuff down. His lectures are very engaging and he mixes in just the right amount of humour to go with his class. Homework is pretty clear as it correlates well with the notes. He doesn't use eclass.
Very entertaining and engaging lectures. He's my favourite professor and I wish I could take another one of his classes even though they are a bit of work.
Best professor I've ever had he's so funny and you wanna be there for his stories because they're legendary. You need to be there for the lectures because he does alot of notes and doesn't post them online. The midterm wasn't crazy hard and he honestly makes it really easy to pay attention and study. And the online assignments are really easy.
Gordon Lee is great! I took this class because he was teaching it, and it definitely shows that environmental economics is his passion. He has great, interesting, and informative lectures, tells lots of relevant stories and has great notes. His exams are fair and similar format to old exams. 1 midterm, essay, problem sets, and final. Great class!
Professor Lee is a great lecturer who can make a somewhat stale topic seem very interesting. Lots of relevant and funny stories to break up note taking while still covering the material in great detail. Also very helpful when answering questions.
Made Economic enjoyable and VERY easy to understand. Explains things very clearly and gives you opportunities to ask for clarification. He sets everything up so that it's completely possible to get a good grade.
Hands down my favourite prof I've ever had. His stories and jokes make a normally boring class very interesting. Nothing on eclass so you have to attend to get any of the information, however his teaching style makes this something to look forward to instead of a chore. The web assignments are short and easy, the tests however are difficult.
This is a great class! His specialty is environmental economics and it definitely shows. His lectures are always interesting and make it easy to understand the material. Has 3 problem sets, an essay, midterm, and a final. Doesn't use eClass so you have to go to class, but this isn't an issue, they are always interesting and he tells great stories.
THE GOAT.
He makes a slightly boring subject entertaining with his jokes and past experiences. Online homework assignments are quick and simple. His tests although are difficult, wording will be tricky. Don't buy the textbook, you don't need it. Great guy overall.
he doesnt have eclass, so you must show up for lecture. GREAT PROF! very clear and understanding, gives us time to catch up on notes, tells awesome stories. Aplia website more like Craplia, i hate that site. LEE GORDON IS ONE OF THOSE PROFS YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR LIFETIME
Tells stories during his lectures that make the class more enjoyable. Tests are tough but manageable if you study.
Best prof I have ever had. Makes lectures interesting and easy to follow. Homework isn't too heavy. Must attend class because he doesn't post notes online but you wanna be there to hear examples as well as his stories. Incredibly good at what he does and makes things easy to understand. Highly highly recommend if you have the chance
Professor Gordon is one of the best professor for ECON. He teaches very well. He always makes the class interesting by telling stories. While many may think ECON classes are boring, this is definitely not the case in his class. His classes are very lively and he is very helpful and you may ask him even silly questions and he will answer it happily.
Gordon Lee is an amazing prof and makes class interesting. He's really good at teaching but the thing is, his exams are HARD. Lowest average compared to other classes. You think you know the material until you sit down during your exam and there is 2 or 3 possible answers. I would recommend another prof with easier exams. You'll be better off!
Lectures are interesting. Assignment questions are often purposefully misleading, resulting in the marjority of the class getting no points on a question for an assignment with 4 questions. Doesn't use eclass (annoying), instead expects you to use your email as a folder for handouts and past exams.
Best prof I have ever had. He brings his humour and many stories into lectures. Purchased the textbook but only opened it once. Weekly assignments were very easy and helped a lot. Great lecturer who was very respectable and always made himself available (made 6 days of office hours before the final). No Eclass though so come to class to take notes
Great prof. Nothing to be said that hasn't been said by others. You probably don't need the textbook, but you'll need the Aplia registration. All notes taken in class. Funny, intelligent, great lecturer. You're in good hands with Gordon.
Best prof I've had so far. He hand-writes his notes and doesn't post them anywhere so you have to go but if you do, and if you put in effort, you're golden.
Gordon Lee is by far the greatest prof I ever had at U of A. He is extremely smart and an excellent teacher. Knows how to explain complex topics and keeps you interested in learning more. Going to lectures is mandatory because he never posts his notes on eclass, but his notes are so good it is so easy to study from them. Great sense of humor too :)
Gordon was an amazing prof. It was always fun to attend class and he taught the material very well. His tests are kind of tough, but if you think about the question, they're not all that bad. He tells great stories and cracks a lot of jokes. I would highly recommend Gordon as a prof.
Great teacher and instructs incredibly well. Course material is dry as it comes but he makes it work somehow.
What a great prof and a great guy! Has lots of entertaining stories to make up for the dry material that he has to teach. Engaging lectures, but very difficult tests which are all that make up this course mark. Definitely would take again but don't expect an easy A.
Extremely good prof would 100% recommend for first year econ students!
Best Professor ever. Lectures are amazing and he is funny. Does not post anything to eclass, so attendance is a must. Explains everything clearly, STRAIGHT MEMORIZATION WONT HELP, understand the concepts and their application. Tests are a little harder, read the questions very carefully. But gives 3 or 4 old exams to practice, which YOU MUST DO.
Best Econ prof in Ualberta. Easy and straight forward exams as long as you study.
To be honest, I don't get the hype with him. He's a cool guy (funny stories, personable), but his teaching style isn't anything special. I had to use Youtube videos. No eClass. Skip the textbook - tests are based on class notes. Use the practice exams he gives. Overall, he's a good prof.
Gordon Lee's lectures are the best. However, his exams are very difficult especially if you don't go to class because he doesn't post notes online. He does give you practice midterms though. Don't take him as a prof if you want Econ101 to be your GPA booster.
Gordon Lee's lectures are very funny, entertaining, and engaging. He explains concepts very well and is very accessible outside of class. He does not post any notes online, and therefore showing up to every class is important. His tests tend to be somewhat tough because of this, but easily manageable with extra effort.
Ignore people saying this class is hard. Class is easy, Gordon kills it. Of course you can't just straight memorize it, this isn't high school and there's problem solving to be done. Attend class, read the textbook, do the online questions, and then do at least 1 of the 3 to 4 practice tests for each midterm, go see Gordon or the tutors, success.
Gordon Lee is the best prof ever! He was by far my favourite prof. His lectures are extremely interesting and he constantly tells funny stories that are applicable to the course. He is very easily accessible and is extremely helpful. His exams can be challenging, and attending lecture is mandatory as he tests purely out of his lecture notes.
Best prof ever! I was so inspired by every lecture. He has tons of great stories that really make the lecture material relatable and fun. Doesn't post notes and also gives lots of explanations that aren't necessarily written (if you're copying from a friend) so I highly suggest showing up to every class.
Don't get me wrong, I love Gordon Lee. He is an amazing professor. To be honest, I'd recommend taking Econ 101 with a professor with easier tests and just sitting down in Gordon lee's lectures. His lectures are amazing, he's funny, the tests will mess you up and ruin your mark. I learnt in his class but my mark was horrible, same with a lot of ppl.
Awesome grade booster! Weekly online assignments but they are very easy. Midterms and final aren't too difficult as long as you study. Tests only on lecture material which makes studying much easier. Lectures are organized and never tedious because he's absolutely hilarious and breaks them up with lots of funny stories!
Gordon was by far my favorite prof this year, his lectures were super engaging & he is super funny! He is super knowledgeable & his tests are extremely fair as he only tests on information that we went over in class. However, he has no online presence so therefore it is extremely important to be present to lectures!!! Also the assignments were easy
My favourite prof this semester by far. He was able to make even the dullest material interesting. Tests based on lecture notes. If you have the option, choose Gordon's class.
Gordon is an amazing professor. He tells a lot of stories in class which help you understand and remember the concepts. He is funny and kind. He cares a lot about his students and is easy to reach outside of class. Very fair marker.
Best Prof out of the whole bunch! He's an awesome lecturer and will tell stories in class that can help you relate to the material, and that are also entertaining, and allows for students to catch up with the notes. (fyi, none of the notes are posted online and he tests based on lecture notes so come to class.)
Great Prof, no need for the textbook because he tests solely on lecture notes. Tests seemed to be hard for many of the students, but he sends out 5-6 old exams/midterms and he often recycles old questions. If you do the practice exams you will do great.
Gordon Lee regularly tells stories that make the content more relatable and enjoyable. He has a good sense of humor and his exams are not too hard if you complete the practice tests he sends out. Great teacher overall. I may take more classes with him in the future.
Super funny, class was enjoyable even though I hate economics. Just do all of the practice midterms and you'll be fine. He's very flexible with his office hours as well.
Gordon Lee is a great prof! He's got a sense of humour and tells the best stories during class. He's very patient with students when explaining concepts they didn't understand and gives good examples off the top of his head. Warning: He doesn't reply to e-mails but he's got office hours and is more than willing to chat with you after class.
Fantastic storyteller who clearly cares about what he's teaching. Made me reconsider my major.
Great class, explains concepts well in lectures and keeps things engaging.
Tests straight from lectures. Done this job for so long he knows how to make lectures easy to follow and his notes easy to copy. Also takes breaks to make jokes and tell stories(more worth it than you'll ever know). Best teacher.
Lives up to all the hype. Go to class, and you will be good to go - the textbook was a good supplement but not necessary, as all exam material was strictly lecture based. Sometimes has tricky test questions, so pay close attention to the wording. Engaging and funny lectures. After years of ECON101, I feel like he's optimized the way he teaches it.
Where do I begin, had him last semester and he's by far the best professor I have had at the U of A so far. Exams are straight forward, he's not trying to confuse you so if you study his notes and understand the concepts you will do fine. He makes lectures entertaining and actually teaches you instead of reading off a powerpoint. would recommend.
Gordon is my favourite prof so far in uni. You can really tell he enjoys the smaller class size of 281 over 101. You literally can't skip though because he tests on exactly what he teaches. It's a hard class overall but really enjoyable.
Gordon Lee is one of, if not, the best professor I've ever had. Funny, smart, and excellent at communicating ideas. I actually enjoyed going to his economics class. I highly disagree with him on some political issues, but there's no denying he's a fantastic professor. 10/10 would recommend.
Best prof so far in Uni.
Gordon Lee is amazing and hilarious. His lectures are very enjoyable to sit through. He does not post anything on eClass so you must go to class or get a good note buddy. He tells lots of great stories and is a great guy. I did find his tests extremely difficult however he only tests on his own note material, no textbook. Definitely recommend.
Gordon is a really entertaining prof. His tests are a little difficult sometimes, because they are short and everyone does well, but his class is so fun that it makes up for it. He has great stories and examples. The aplia homework is very easy and a good way to earn an extra 10-15% in the class. Highly recommend.
Great prof, keeps students engaged with stories. His midterms were pretty difficult compared to his final, but put in the work and you'll do well. The Aplia also boosts your mark (10-15% extra credit). No textbook required either! BEWARE: sometimes 'none of the above' can be an option on his multiple choice tests.
Solid choice. I recommend you do all his old exams before midterms and the final. And take notes on everything he says (not just what he writes).
He is an amazing guy. If you want to thrive in his class, make notes during his class. Pay attention to every thing he says in his class, it matters.
Such a great professor, but also a very kind person. He made sure you knew what was happening in the class while also keeping it entertaining! Gave many examples and gave clear instructions on what to study for tests. Also, he gave plenty of past exams to study from! Best proffesor I have ever had.
The prof was really interesting to listen to and I looked forward to attending his lectures - the stories he tells are real fun to listen to. He makes concepts very clear and writes everything out in detail - especially the graphs. His tests can be tricky, but the practice exams he posts were REALLY similar to the actual exam (at least for me).
This was the only lecture I used to look forward to every MWF. The prof was funny and the connections between course material and real life made understanding content easy. All the exams were very similar to his previous exams and online homework took about an hour a week. Overall the course is a GPA booster and the prof made class exciting.
Amazing lectures, and a really funny/interesting professor! His lectures are never boring, and he actually knew how to explain a concept. He would always go over topics if they were confusing to the class, and gave the class extra time to finish completing notes if they were extremely long. His midterms are hard, but he never gives boring lectures.
Gordon Lee is a good professor overall. He gives good lectures and is clear in his expectations for the midterms and final. However, he uses the same notes every year so if you have a copy from someone who has taken it previously, there is no point in attending lectures. He is funny though so I would still go.
Amazing prof, entertaining lectures, somewhat difficult tests. Only uses his own notes, no need to buy textbook unless you want additional references.
Amazing prof, fun stories, 2nd midterm was definitely harder than the first but its curved, aplia is pretty easy extra marks too
he tests things in his notes only! He is a amazing economics professor! I took his ECON 101 and 281! He explains concepts very clearly! After his lectures, I am interested in this discipline!!!!very recommended!
Super funny and most interesting prof I had during first year. He gives great examples, so you can remember them easily. Also gives lots of sample midterms for practice. He doesn't post notes online, so you gotta go to class or scam them from someone else. Just make sure you know your stuff for the exam.
One of the best profs at University of Alberta.
Solid prof but I hate how he doesn't post his lecture notes online. Make friends or you're screwed if you miss a lecture
Just an absolute beauty
One of the best profs ive ever had.
Solid prof, extremely helpful in helping you to build up the foundation in economics, but his exams are definitely not those that you can just study notes/textbook and circle the correct answers, you need to think, relate, apply, one more step from the things you learned. I guess a slightly harder exam is what I pay for having such a great prof.
Taking economics? Take this prof. I was honestly worried about having to copy notes from the slides without any online copies, but within two classes I was 100% on board and I never got left behind. The tests are difficult, but study hard enough and you won't have an issue. Just don't skip class. Seriously.
Such an amazing prof. His lectures are enjoyable, informative and clear. Not only does he give students a chance to take notes, but also he uses that time to tell a funny story or a joke. The exams are not hard, but also are not easy. I would say they have the ideal difficulty. Recommend taking with this prof.
Kept the class interesting, really fun and understands that there is more going on than you just focusing on that class. Amazing well respected smart professor.
Phenomenal professor. He will NOT post his notes online, and for good reason; the majority of understanding the concepts in class are done through well thought-out allegories and metaphors. He is a very clever, enthusiastic, and articulate professor. I enjoyed this class so much I ended up switching my minor to it, even though I joined late.
My favourite prof so far! Super engaging about a course I'm not super passionate about. Notes are really well done (does not post them online) his midterms are hard and all multiple choice, but he gives you tons of practice midterms so if you study and know what you are doing its fine. Really enjoyed his class though.
While his midterms are pretty tricky, Gordon's classes were always good and he finds ways to make them funny and engaging while never straying from what you're supposed to be learning. Would take his class again!
Gordon Lee is an amazing professor he is engaging and doesn't mince his words. He finds time to tell engaging stories while students are still writing and budgets his time impeccably. I would highly recommend him as an economics professor. Any class he is teaching you should take
Two midterms, weekly homework, and a final. They're difficult; you have to study, but that's expected for university. Awesome professor. Gives amazing lectures, super accessible outside of class, and gives clear explanations. I took this course for fun, and it certainly was fun! I would definitely go out of my way to take more lectures with him.
He knows how to engage the class and has a loud voice. HOWEVER, if you suck at analyzing questions, then DO NOT take the class, his exams are extremely hard, the wording seems very outdated and difficult to understand, (almost completely theory), you need to have a deep understanding of the notes in class. TIP: Study from the notes, not textbook!!
For Engineering, ECON 204 with Lee is the best CSOP. Subject material is interesting, workload is light (vs 3/4 year engineering; not like a 100 arts course) and Professor Lee makes it entertaining. I don't know how his other courses work, but the exam content (SA, MC, LA percentages) were chosen by students as a vote, which was great
The only reason I took this class was because Gordon's teaching it. Words can't describe how amazing he is, honestly I feel like he has the ability to make any painful class enjoyable. Exams are straightforward and gives you lots of similar practice exams. Go to class, take notes and with minimal studying you'll be fine.
Great prof, great class. Definitely a class where you're going to have to put in the effort to do well. Gordon's a great lecturer and how well you do in the class is completely dependent on how much work you're willing to put in. Awesome class, totally recommend.
Lectures were fun and engaging. Tests EXCLUSIVELY from the notes but I found the textbook helpful sometimes. Test questions are quite tricky and you need to thoroughly understand the concepts to answer them, so be prepared for your exams. I would recommend handwriting your notes- there's lots of diagrams and equations. You will need to write fast.
The BEST prof I've had. His witty anecdotes make class even more enjoyable. Doesn't post notes so it's in your best interest to show up or make a friend that will send you the notes. Easy material but his exams can be on the difficult side, but he provides lots of practice exams. Online assignments are a real grade booster. Highly recommended.
All-around fantastic prof. His lectures were always interesting, enjoyable, and packed with funny anecdotes. His exams may be a little harder than those of other profs, but he does a great job preparing his students for it. If you're taking econ, I would highly recommend Gordon Lee.
He is a fantastic prof. His lectures are amazing! He provides lots of interesting examples which help me to understand complex concepts. He also provides many practice exams. He is always there to help. He's such a gem!
Best Prof I've had. Class was an easy mark booster and he keeps lectures interesting with breaks between notes where he will tell stories about profs he had and former students.
He uses the same notes from year to year, he shows up to class and talks and talks, If aren't a business major don't take this class. It surely isn't a mark booster.
Honestly, just show up to his class, because he makes it worth it. Doesn't upload his notes so you probably should anyways. His examples are hilarious and genuinely interesting so you won't be disappointed. Exams are also straightforward as long as you study
well, Gordon Lee is a very good instructor, he makes concepts easy to understand and his lecture is always interesting. Anyway his exams are tough!
Dr. Lee is old school. The only way to attain notes is by attending his lectures. Gordon Lee takes his time to explain the concepts he teaches and he explains them very well. His tests are a bit tricky, remember to read carefully and thoroughly. Overall a solid choice for ECON 101!
Best Prof I've ever had! Supper funny, makes lectures interesting. If you skip classes and don't have a friend in your class, you'll probably do poorly as he DOES NOT POST HIS NOTES ONLINE! He tests on his notes, not the textbook. He'll break down the tests for you and you can take his word to the bank. Amazing prof, I'd recommend him to anyone!
Honestly Gordon was ok. If youre good at math youre set. He would do things without calculus and I understood it great then he pulled some calc out of thin air and I basically blanked. He was a good prof but not an easy one.
Don't skip class since he doesn't post his notes online and he tests from his notes. Going to class is worth it anyway since his lectures are hilarious. Get ready for him to flex his calculus skills and puppies on you. Don't worry too much about the calculus, it isn't tested. He breaks down the tests and uploads many practice exams.
He made lectures very entertaining and gave good examples. You need to write all your own notes and he does not post anything online. The midterms and finals were all apply knowledge questions, which was a bit challening. Did not test anything out of the textbook, but need to buy access code for weekly assignments.
He was an absolute gem lectures were great very easy to understand and great with explanations and relations
I absolutely loved Gordon Lees econ class. Lectures were engaging, and you were tested specifically on his lecture material. I did use the textbook for clarification, but you didn't need to have it. Concepts were explained in two ways: through calculus and logic, I only listened to logic and it worked for me! He is hilarious and uses clear examples
Gordon Lee has been teaching this class for a while now and clearly knows his material very well. He gets students engaged and tells amazing stories- I didn't fall asleep once in his 8am lectures! Really wish he taught 102 as well. He is a very fair prof and very accessible even during finals and midterms. Highly recommend.
Simply amazing, as I'm sure you can tell.
He tells great stories and makes you love economics
Love Gordon, he is such a goat. Really funny and good guy, makes lectures entertaining, and his tests are really fair, not super easy, but if you put in the work, you'll do decent.
Professor Lee is truly a great prof, with having taken this course as a first year, he's quite forgiving and very helpful. He posts tons of practice questions and his MindTap weekly assignments are actually quite easy to do and are helpful. Make sure you constantly study for Econ 101 if you take it it's easy if you try.
Awesome professor
The best prof I have ever had. He is so passionate about economics and was able to connect it to real stories and history making what could have been a really dry class fascinating. Not only that, but he genuinely cares about his students' mental health. When I was burned out and sick he offered to defer my midterm without me even asking. GLGOAT
One of the best professors I have ever had.
very funny, covered in tats but overall great prof, easy A, don't need friends in that class unless you skip cuz he hand writes his notes and does not post it on eclass, posts midterms and final exam on eclass so that's nice but yea he's cool
Gordon does not use eclass, so please attend all the lectures and take notes. He is hilarious and does his best to keep the class entertaining and engaging. He is super specific with the lectures and is the best in the business for Econ 101. His tests are not very simple, they are a bit tricky, but with the right amount of effort you will be fine.
Excellent teacher, only reason econ was a bearable class. Absolutely hilarious and finds a way to relate interesting stories to the concepts learned in class. He is a bit old school, not putting notes on the internet so you do need to go to class. For the final he uses no information found in the textbook so class is necessary. I highly recommend.
regret to choose this course in senior year
Here are the things I have noticed in his class: 1) Final is worth a lot (45%) 2) Gordo's teaching is disorganized and his notes suck. He'll explain a concept that the textbook uses 20 pages, in 1 page. Buy the tbook it is much better, but review his notes because he tests on random definitions and stats 3) Does not respond to emails 4) Take Ashraf
Professor Lee is a great lecturer, this class had no textbook so attending class was necessary to get all the relevant information. Definitely a class worth taking.
Absolutely amazing prof! His lectures feel more like a comedy routine than an actual lecture. His notes are very straightforward and he is very clear about which chapters will be on the exams. The assignments are super easy but the exams are tricky; make sure you read every question very carefully and you will get a good mark. Highly recommend!
he was lit
Gordon is one of U of A's legends. If you have the chance to have him as a prof, do it. He's funny, makes his subject genuinely interesting and provides clear explanations. You do need to go to class, but it's worth it. He looks like Santa Claus but with chest tats and he keeps his lectures interesting with funny jokes and stories.
He gives really good lecture notes, explains things very well, and balances his lectures with funny stories. He cares about his students as well as their well being. Would recommend!
Lectures are very interesting and the jokes and stories he has are funny and keep class interesting. I started from viewing the class as a nuisance as a morning course to looking forward to his detailed and funny lectures. Very accessible through email and office hours. Would recommend to others.
Gordon! Lee! Such an amazing prof. Me being awful at math, I was worried about this course - he explained the concepts so clearly it wasn't a problem. Gordon truly cares about the wellbeing of his students. My only complaint is his exams are tough. Attendance isn't mandatory but I TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT purely to hear his funny stories and jokes.
Gordon is a great prof. MUST attend lectures cause he doesn't post notes online. He only tests on lecture notes (NOT textbook). Recommend getting the online textbook cause you need them for online assignments. He tells amazing stories and genuinely cares about his students. I'm not taking economics unless he's my professor lol
One of the best professors i've had. All you have to do is sit in class, relax, and take a few notes. His notes are very well laid out and easy to follow. Tests are pretty easy given you pay attention and know what your doing. 10/10 would take again.
Fricken hilarious. Has awesome stories that break up the lectures and make it worthwhile to show up. Cool coloured pens.
A comedian and a prof all in one! One of my favorite profs thus far. He's great. Lots of classroom-related stories to help absorb the info and some non-related lol.. Must show up to class as he doesn't post his notes. Exams based on class notes only, but the online assignments are based on the textbook. Would take again 100%
A real g
Have had two classes with this prof- he is absolutely amazing. Genuinely cares for his students, has really engaging lectures. Doesnt post his notes online, so attendance is a must. A bit of a tougher course (and he is a tough marker), but you will do well if you put in work. Very clear criteria for midterm and final (laid out what he was testing)
Dr. Lee's lectures are engaging and the content was explained in depth with alot of examples. His exams are fair game to what was in the lectures. Textbook use was minimal, only needed for clarifications.
Mr. Lee is an approachable man willing to help his students. He does not post his notes and the only thing I would critique him on is they are not super straight forward at first, but with studying you will understand. His tests come straight from lectures, so do not worry about the textbook unless you need something explained in a different way.
Gordon Lee is a beauty and one of everyones favourite profs. His lecture notes are clear and concise and he does not use the textbook . Went to see him a few times during his office hours and he is very helpful and really cares about helping his students. His tests are definitely challenging and require more than just looking over your notes
GOAT of Econ
Gordon never returns emails but just attending class is enough to receive a good grade. His lecture notes are mostly textbook material with a couple of topics that do not appear in the textbook. Amazing, engaging lectures that are typically clear and straightforward to understand. Only negative is his notes get a little messy when it comes to graph
Great prof, entertaining and funny. A few strange questions on exams that where not really covered, but overall pretty easy. Workload of my other classes limited my study time, but an A should be fairly easy.
Gordon is honestly the best prof I've ever had, his lectures are in depth and interesting, and his use of stories to convey economic ideas is brilliant. The man is about 80% of the reason I switched my major to Economics, he makes even the most simple topics fascinating.
Absolute king. He made Econ really fun and interesting. Go to his office hours if you don't understand a concept, he will help you understand everything perfectly!
Gordon makes jokes and tells tons of stories during lectures so theyre actually enjoyable to attend. Definitely one of my favourite professors. For exams, if you know how to do all the questions on his practice exams, you will pass.
Gordon Lee is the G O A T
Best prof ever. Amazing lectures, he is the GOAT
Literally the best prof of all time GOAT
Best prof at the UofA
They're great men then there's Gordon Lee. Absolutely amazing, it's impossible to regret taking a course with him. He is an experience, a full on experience
Gordon was a great prof with great lecture material. He prepared you very well for his exams as he provides old exams to study from. I am not an economics person so I found the course material difficult but it would have been much harder to get through without Gordons help. He is helpful in explaining questions during office hours as well.
He's a really great prof, very patient and will stop the class to make sure everyone understands the concept. but you will need to attend if you want to pass. he doesn't put notes on eclass. he says he will but is inconsistent. he also doesnt assign crazy amount of readings. he emails the relevant pages.
Extremely lovely and understanding prof. So easygoing and makes the class very simple to understand. Very approachable for questions and will try and accommodate for everyone. Very clear and straightforward with what he wants in assignments. However the lectures are a bit boring but it's not that bad.
It's almost impossible to receive a reply to your email, even the quickest time will be more than 10 days! Also, the lecture is really unorganized, he will post the lecture for half a month on the last day of the term!
He makes econ a breeze. Explains content really well, and gives good amount of practice problems. Problems are representative of the exams.
Avoid him, seems charismatic at first, but has an extremely stubborn attitude and refuses to listen to reason. Asks questions that cannot be answered using material discussed/taught. Obscure grading confusing question structure will make you extremely frustrated. People who give him good ratings don't value a fair professor. Funny doesn't mean good
Had Gordon Lee for 101 and 269. His practice exams are a fair example of what will be tested on midterms and finals. A little old school because he hand writes all of his notes (unsure what he does now with COVID). Very personable, fair marker and always accessible outside of class to go over tests/assignments.
I'm not interested in Econ at all and I just took it because I heard it was an easy A so I was amazed that it became my favourite class that semester. Incredible lecturer, I honestly cannot recommend him enough. Also if you're looking for an easy A you can't go wrong with Econ 101.
-He didn't say ANYWHERE the time of the first midterm and I had to email him to figure that out -Gotta pay $100 to submit your assignments -His website gives you a cryptocurrency phishing warning (really playing the long game here, huh?) -Says he'll do something by a date, doesn't do it -Contradictory statements GALORE Avoid this man if you can.
Best prof I have ever had. He's very organized and his lectures are actually interesting. He uses real-life scenarios to better understand the topics and simplifies them so they're easy to understand. The thing I liked most about him was the number of practice midterms he gave and how similar they were to the actual test. BEST PROF!
There are many GOATs: Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Lebron James, Tom Brady. Gordon Lee belongs on this list. Hands down the best ECON professor at the U of A. Simply read his notes and you will succeed.
Genuinely a great professor. Not much more to say. 10/10 absolute beauty of a professor.
i LOVE this man. Took it as an elective and was by far the best decision I made in my degree.
For a professor with a 4+ out of 5 on Rate My Prof, I was expecting an amazing man. BE WARNED! He is Terrible online. He posts his lecture so inconsistently, hardly replies to emails, and before the final, he didn't even post the last 5 lectures, just the notes. I do not recommend him for this class
Lee is an amazing professor, he's extremely organized and helpful. Almost impossible to get below a 90% on the homework assignments. He's also funny and makes the class enjoyable
TAKE THIS CLASS! Dr. Lee is fantastic, his lectures are engaging and he applies real-life scenarios to examples to make them easier to understand. His tests are fair, pay attention and read the notes and you'll do well.
One of the easiest As you'll get in your first year. Aside from the content being easy to understand, Dr. Lee's notes are very thorough and the man is hilarious! His story breaks are very much welcome during the notes. Midterms and Final aren't made to trick you or anything like that, real gem of a professor.
I'm not good at math but at least he could help me pass lol
Dr. Lee was an amazing prof, especially during these online times! New lectures were released timely and the content was very clear. Despite the online delivery, his humour still managed its way into the lectures, making them enjoyable to listen to. The assignments were easy, and the exams were fair if you reviewed his notes and practice questions.
Freest A in my life.
prof has hard exams but his lectures are funny. if you really pay attention you shouldn't do too bad
Fantastic prof even in an online format. The class was asynchronous but his lecture videos were well done and easy to understand. When it came to the final exam and midterm he gave a full day to start the midterm and three days for the final. If you have the chance you should definitely take this class!
Dr. Lee cares about his students and he keeps his lectures interesting by incorporating stories from his past. Tests were fair if you kept up with the lectures. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE GRAPHS.
Ive never had a better Prof. Cares so much. So willing to work with you in office hours and never makes you feel stupid. Very encouraging and has an incredible depth of knowledge. He also gives really engaging lectures. Didnt NEED the textbook and it isnt mandatory but can be very helpful for studying terms in further depth. One of the good ones
ECON 204 with Gordon Lee was one of the best courses I've taken. He uses a lot of humor in his examples and explanations, making the classes much more engaging. The assignments were easy and the tests were fair.
I loved his classes, I’m not a huge economics fan but he made the lectures easy to pay attention to and incorporated lots of stories and humour, I really enjoyed his lectures which is wild for someone who doesn’t like economics
Gordon is a great professor, very knowledgeable in his department and has the funniest stories. I found the course and exams difficult for a 101 class. The midterms and final were done through the LAC. 100% recommend Gordon if you're an econ major or passionate about economics.
This professor is clearly passionate about what he does and is good at explaining relatively basic concepts. I took this class solely as a GPA booster. His tests were tricky, and the averages were relatively low, so be sure to actually study and read questions carefully. An entire midterm's content could be learned in about 2 days tho, which isnice
This was the first class I had with him in university and after that I ended up majoring in economics and taking classes I dont even need just because he was teaching it! very funny and makes boring topics interesting and captivating. definitely should take this class with him if you get the chance!
Amazing Professor. I wish the rating was out of 10 so I could give him 10/10. I have never taken his class but still attended his lectures because he was so good. I spent my spare time going to his classes to enjoy his lectures. I learned everything about economics and I feel like a business man now.
This professor is super engaging. I barely had to study because I can remember his examples from class so clearly. He's kind, organized, and hilarious. Probably one of the best professors I've ever had
Really good prof for econ 101
Amazing prof. Struggled a bit during online learning since he was very hard to reach and still takes time to respond to emails (if ever). But, he posted his lecture videos (which were good) and is great at explaining Econ concepts! Econ 101 isn't automatically an easy course, so you will have to spend some time learning the material.
He is a really nice and funny professor, but he rarely answers his emails and lectures can get boring at times. I wish he went over more practice problems in class to help prepare for the exams. Make sure to do the practice exams and go to his office hours if you don't understand something! Definitely not an easy A as many describe.
Dr. Lee is a very good professor. The lessons were well structured and easy to follow. He likes to include jokes and stories in his lectures which makes them more enjoyable. The assignments are basically free grades. The tests were straightforward. Takes some work, but is not too challenging to get a good grade. I studied 1 day before the final.
By far the best prof I have ever had. Lectures were engaging and I always looked forward to them everyday. Would constantly tell entertaining personal stories, jokes and interesting economic real-world examples. Explained the concepts well. Assignments and tests were fair. Expect a moderate effort to receive a good grade.
Gorden Lee is one of the best profs i have ever seen. I really appreciate that i learned lots of useful concepts and get motivated in every class. He is really approachable to students, and the class and exams are democratic and hard but fun. A real professional and knowledgeable economist!
Fun and engaging.
Realest prof out there. Take his class and be prepared to laugh and get a 4.0 if you have more than like 10 functioning braincells.
The class was amazing. Really fun course and makes you want to come to class. Really nice person as well and really wants you to succeed. If you ever read this, Thank you.
He is very good at lecturing, answers questions and reexplains things very well when they aren't understood. Tells lots of stories and jokes.
He's very funny and keeps the class engaged.
Professor Lee is a fantastic prof and lecturer, the only problem, which is a big deal for me at least, was that he didn't post notes online, so if you missed a lecture, you'll have to ask someone for notes. Luckily his lectures are great so you won't be missing too often hopefully
Knowledgeable and shows that he genuinely cares about students but doesn't share slides which can be a bit of a challenge as lecture content sometimes differs from the textbook. Purchase of Achieve is required, but can also be accessed from Cameron library. Winter 2023 weightage: Midterm 1&2 (20% each), Achieve assignments (15%), Final (45%)
Super amazing Prof! His lectures are so funny and full of stories. He does not share his slides so if you skip class you wont pass. This class is not a super easy A, you'll need to put some effort in if you have no experience with econ. If you already know econ, this class will be the easiest of your life.
Professor Lee was amazing! Before ECON 101 I didn't have a particular interest in economics but this guy got me into it. He's funny, clear-spoken, inspirational, and extremely dedicated. If you have to take ECON 101, take Lee. He was such a great professor and I'm sad I won't have him for my future classes. 10/10 prof.
Forget this guy's personality. He writes everything out by hand and does not upload slides AT ALL. The design of his course is very ableist considering that it is an introductory course with no prerequisites. If he wants to teach graduates he should. Enjoy visiting him during office hours because that's your only option!
This class involves math/calculus, graph making and understanding, and does not feel like a 100-level course. Found myself learning, and understanding more from youtube videos. Professor's quite funny, but old school lecturer. Recommend If you're going to take this class in the spring only take one class, if not then try to take it Fall/Winter
Super engaging class, always told real life examplea to make material easiee to understand. VERY clear grading criteria, gives you heads up of exam type questions and things to remember. Phenomenal prof!
He doesn't use email, just use cellphone. If you wanna to ask him questions, just go to his office. I think this course is tough, you need to remember a lot of N
Excellent teacher who actually makes learning fun. His class will absolute be you favorite class of the term!
Dr. Lee was a wonderful prof, my only dislike was that he didn't post notes after class
Wonderful teacher, makes classes interesting Absolutely take his classes if you can.
Very nice and knowledgeable prof, definitely attend his lectures, his lectures are interesting (as he shares some new insights and news) and you should take notes of what he writes on the board. He gives clear instructions about what the midterm and final covers, and everything is based on his notes. Not hard at all, but needs at least some effort.
He is so funny and caring. Gave me really good life lessons and taught me even how to focus.
Absolutely amazing professor. He is incredible experienced, is a fantastic story-teller, has simple, concise notes, and explains concept very well, backing everything up with easy-to-understand examples. Lectures are sooo fun and enjoyable.
His Teahcing style is great, and you will learn stuff for sure. Before any exams, he will give hints of topic from where most fo the questions will come with the proper distribution. If you get a course content, then getting good graded will not be a challenge. He is not responsive in email but office hours with him are blessings
I loved Prof Lee for Econ 101. His cons are that he uses achieve which forces you to read the textbook (which has material that is only partially tested on) and that he avoids online stuff like the plague. However, he really tries to make everyone succeed, explains things clearly, and makes the course as easy as possible otherwise. He's the best.
Lee is a pretty average prof in my opinion. I checked his ratings prior to taking his class, and I feel they are misleading. Lee is funny and easy going, but as far as lectures go he is just okay. He does not post any notes, and notes taken in class were super confusing and hard to understand when going back to study. Nice guy but overhyped.
His exams are TOUGH but he makes up for them with good lectures. He's funny and entertaining which definitely helped me not sleep in class but be prepared to do a lot of practice questions to do well in this course.
Lee is a good prof for Econ if you are good at understanding graphs. Personally, I struggled with this class as I had no prior knowledge of economics/ reading graphs. He is willing to explain concepts if you ask him, though and is friendly. Not sure how other profs are with the delivery of content in econ but this class just didn't work for me.
Dont think too much Just take this teacher
Exams are tough but AMAZING lectures. Make friends with people you sit with because he does not post the notes and they are all handwritten. Take this prof
Best econ prof there is! His classes are not recorded and he doesn't post notes however it forces you to come to lectures which is a big reason why many succeed in his class. His lectures are not boring and his tests were very fair and solely based on what he thought in lectures. Plenty of office hours and genuinely cares about his students.
I dreaded this class. I hated economics. Now I'm taking more econ classes with Dr. Lee because he's so cool, and makes it so easy. He doesn't post notes, so don't miss lectures, but they're so entertaining you'll want to be there anyway. Had to buy an online textbook/assignment software, but it's helpful. Very clear on what's on each midterm. GOAT
Literally the goat prof. Only class I've ever been excited to go to the lectures. Exams were extremely easy too.
W Professor, Love the stories that he tells in the middle of the lectures
Great lectures! I am not good at Econ but Lee was a great prof!
Great professor, Lee gave good outlines for how exams were structured. All exam content is based on lecture notes in which he creates based on the textbook. Super engaging in lectures and midterms were easy to score 80-90 with minimal studying.
The GOAT of the econ department. He is very chill and his lectures are great. However he does not use eclass so you cannot skip.
Fantastic economics professor, he knows what he is talking about. He often goes on a tangent telling interesting stories in class and still leaves time to cover all of the content in depth, which makes the class very engaging. It is easy to get a high mark in this class If you pay attention and ask questions. Assignments were easy and reflective.
Such a great prof. His lectures were easy to follow and very engaging, you can tell he likes what he does. He gives a thorough outline of what will be on the midterms/final. Only downside I would say is that he doesn't post his lecture notes.
Almost zero resources outside of lectures but material is relatively easy.
Not as good as I expected. Very few resources were provided, although there were many practice final, some didn't have answer keys and some didn't show figures related to the questions. During lectures, his hand written notes were a bit messy, and it was really easy to lose attention when he's talking under the same speed as he writes
Great professor. While attendance isn't mandatory, you'd basically be giving yourself an F by not attending. Everything on the exams is based on his lectures so if you write good notes and do some practice exams before the midterms and final you should be alright.
Lee has super interesting and engaging lectures, related topics to real life scenarios making them easy to understand. His exams are fairly similar to the examples and class work. Two midterms and a final and an assignment per week, assignments add up to a big chunk of ur grade. He doesn't post anything on eClass so attendance is kinda mandatory.
One of my favourite teachers! I found my self always engaged in lectures and his story keeps you coming back.
Best econ prof i had fr. Gordon is the GOAT. He is super funny and his stories are entertaining! He really knows how to get a class engaged and i always look forward to my lectures with him! I love how exam content is based on his lectures.
amazing prof
He's a wonderful prof and I would 100% take another class with him. His lectures are detailed and entertaining. He's super personable and helpful if you have questions. His exams were based on the lectures not so much the textbook, so attending class is important. If you have the option to take his class, take it.
LEctures are something you don't want to miss with him. The exams are largely based on his lectures, with Acheive MacMillan also being there to help. Achieve does cost about 100+ dollars, but there is a free option at Cameron Library. Every sunday there were two assignments due via acheive. Tells stories to foster better understanding of the course
Outstanding professor -- you absolutely need to go to class, but he is really great at what he does and I would reccomend taking his class over any other 101 prof. Midterms aren't too bad if you study, and he posts lots of practice midterms.
GORDON LEE MY GOAT!!!!!!! The best economics professor at UofA, and also the best lecturer I've ever had the pleasure of being in a class with. Even if you don't need the class for anything, I still suggest taking ECON 101 with Lee just because his lectures are so strong. You need to show up to pass, but the lectures are soooooooo good.
Absolute fire Prof. PLEASE take him if you can.
Could not recommend this prof enough! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! He does not post notes but that doesn't even matter because he always makes sure that everyone has it written down plus ALL his exams are very reflective on only what he teaches. Very kind guy and funny aswell. Always kept the lecture engaging and you would be be excited for his next class.
HES THE GOAT
Easily the best professor I've ever had and would recommend to anyone. You have to show up to class as he doesn't post his notes, but he makes it worth it. Lectures are super entertaining and he uses a lot of examples to explain concepts in a simple way. Definitely take his class!!
I would give anything for this man. He is the best teacher ever and is so funny and educated. He makes the course interesting and his tests and assignments are easy. He made me want to be an economics major just because of how interesting he made the content. I will be taking his courses again even as electives because he is such a good prof.
Great engaging prof, hilarious, though not difficult the course load was not easy. Exams are very lecture heavy and he posts no notes so attend class if you want to pass.
Great lecturer, gives a billion practice midterms and finals, very easy to do well in this course, he's great
Gordon is an amazing professor, and all the other reviews are true. What I liked the most about his teaching for this course is that he allows the students to choose the format of the tests-- how many of each type of question we want, etc. He is also very clear with what will be on the tests so it is easy to study. Easily accessible in office hours
I took ECON 101 with him last spring semester, Professor Lee is an excellent professor. Of course, you have to study in the course to do well, but he is super accommodating and provides practice exams.
I truly believe that I will never have an economics professor, or any professor, as good as Lee. If he told me to egg the deans office I would ask what kind of eggs he wanted me to get. I look forward to his lectures so much that I couldn't look forward to them more even if he was giving out secrets of the universe. Protect this man at all costs.
Prof Lee was by far the best professor I've had this year. He made sure everyone was caught up with the lectures, and he was very interactive in his class. 10/10 would recommend.
The best professor ever! He is hilarious and makes lectures very interesting. He teaches in a way that is incredibly engaging and he uses great examples. Yes, he does not post notes but it is so worth it to go to the lectures. Would recommend getting the textbook as the lectures are mostly based on it. Tests are also fairly easy!
10/10 WOULD ALWAYS RECOMMEND TO ANYONE PLANNING TO TAKE ECON 101. He has good lectures w easy examples to follow. The class is a bit hard as any other introductory classes, but do hw, read textbook, don't skip classes, and u'll do very well. He makes the class so lively, and interesting. I second the person who said to protect this man at all cost!
Very awesome professor. Although he doesn't use technology a lot, you would actually find yourself learning or pushed to learn because you write notes real-time. It is also easy to ask lecture notes from him when you've missed a class, just visit him during office hours, or by email, you can basically ask him anything! He indeed is the G.O.A.T.
Could not be more thankful to have had Mr. Lee teaching me in my first semester of university. There was never a day that would go by where I would not look forward to his lectures! His lectures were very easy to follow, and he always made sure the class was always caught up on our note-taking before moving on. I truly recommend!
Took this course last spring while working 35+ hours a week. Didn't do amazing but it is definitely manageable for spring (especially if you have more time). Very silly guy and easily approachable. He would remember his students and when I went to him after concerns about my first midterm he walked me through it and was very patient.
Super hilarious and really makes me want to do anything with economics! You have to go to class as he doesn't post notes, but I probably would have even if he did. Really cares for the success of his students! Great first prof when starting university!
He doesn't post his notes, but some of his exam questions are similar to the practice exams. And the book he tells you about is too much, it is not similar to his notes.
Whoever gives him less than 5/5 is jealous and lying
This guy was by far one of the best, if not the best professor I have had to date. The guy loves telling wild jokes and explains material in way that is simple to understand. He is very accommodating with his classes as a whole and his exams are straight forward and predictable. 10/10 recommend!
EXTREMELY MID ur better off taking sm1 else. No formula sheets, he doesn't post notes + is well aware of how much students dislike him for it but don't gaf. these ratings are LIES sure he's funny and a good storyteller but that can only go so far. $125 for achieve which was COMPLETELY USELESS DIDN'T HELP FOR TESTS. AVOID. DO NOT LET MY A- FOOL YOU.
These ratings are FAKE, he's funny and all but he's extremely MID. He hand writes out the notes and he writes the same speed as he talks, if you hand write ur notes since there's graphs to draw ur cooked, ur notes are going to be messy and confusing. He doesn't post notes. He DOESNT PROVIDE A FORMULA SHEET for the midterms and final!!!
Awesome class. Very engaging, makes lectures interesting. a bit confusing with graphs but YouTube videos clarified more than enough. Midterms and exams exactly the same as the practices he gives, so you know what to expect. just wish I didn't need to buy $120 online textbook, didn't help with course at all. Does not post notes. overall recommend.
This guy is fantastic. He looks like Big Z from surfs up which only adds to his charm. He gets the class engaged and teaches things in several ways to ensure understanding. The one thing, he does not follow the textbook so the final did not fully align with the material taught within the class. Make sure to know application for everything.
