Fun class, not boring, but HARD!!! Like half my class, including me, dropped it!
Wow! Energetic and all about some spanish! Be prepared to learn a lot on your own! Get ready for a lot that you didnt know!!
Not a hard teacher, like most say. He just expects his students to learn quickly and to pick up easily. Highly recommended if you have taking Spanish in High School
He's always in a bad mood and is intimidating. Watch on for the oral exam.
He knows his stuff, just not very clear on what he wants you to learn or what will be on a test. He is sort of all over the place. But a very nice man.
Very helpful guy. Will work with you if you go for help.
Although I can understand what he is saying I still get confused on what exactly he is asking us to do sometimes. He is not really clear on directions and what is expected of us during labs. I think the class is easy, but rather confusing.
He gets right in your face and expects you to know what he's talking about. He does know his stuff though.
Confusing lab assignments, midterms made out by someone other than your teacher? What is up with the language department at NGCSU? McNeer is unconcerned with anything except the Santandar trip.
Very interesting man who seems to be very intelligent. I enjoyed the class even though I am not the best spanish student. If you were prepared a good grade was possible. Bad grades reflected students effort not Dr. McNeer's skills as a teacher.
Very interesting guy. I was scared at first to be in his class, it can be intimidating. I ended up doing pretty well and I can honestly say that I enjoyed his class. He expects a lot of time and effort to be put into all assignments and class time.
Nice guy who does offer a lot of extra help however in the end it doesn't seem to due much good you will only be given a total of 2 test midterm and final. most people that I know have failed the class
Hard class...but He's a nice man. Was heading for a "C" but because I didn't miss a day of class I received a "B"....don't skip his class!
Lets just say i though spanish was gonna be a much easier class that this. I truly expected to get an A but I got a C. You have to study and stuff...not like High School spanish.
Make sure you know ur stuff on the final. He didn't make it and told us different things than what was on it. Final grade depends on your final. Nice guy, but its a very hard class.
very hard, but nice guy. Very inyour face spanish. hard teacher!!!
Someone there put IN YOUR FACE and they mean it. He calls on you, points at you and stands literally 2 inches away from your face, kind of creepy. Nice man, but didn't learn thing with him.
Very knowledgable, but extremely difficult professor. A lot of students drop his class. A lot of students fail. Does not grade fairly, in my opinion. Made me uncomfortable. Mid term and final are the only real grades, and they do not cover what he taught in class. He can be nice, if he likes you.
Dr. McNeer is very knowledgeable of his subject. However, his classes are very difficult. I did not think he graded all students fairly. I have a minor in Spanish, and I did well overall in my classes. But his classes are by far the most difficult. If you are struggling, do not take his classes.
STUDY. He expects you to practice verbs often. He will call on you in class to answer a question. Grades are basically the mid-term and the final. The mid-term was hard, but somehow I got a 95. Practice A LOT.
If you plan on going to santander you will recieve a passing grade. All other students are no where near his attention. This is a survey class, so it's boring in nature, however when you are quized on material you read to classes before (and not told what the quiz is on) it becomes very difficult to make a decent grade in his class.
Dr. Mcneer is very intelligent, and he is always in a good mood, laughing...he lives to teach about Spain. He has his personal quirks, but he can do that because he's taught here for so long. He also makes class interesting with interesting asides about Bob Dylan and other famous artist quotes. Work together outside of class to succeed, and study.
older buy, but very hot!
Knowledgeable and Passionate about subject. Even if you don't know much about subject, will make decent grade if you read what he asks. Participation a must. Overall, great teacher.
I didn't enjoy his class because it was just too hard, but I thought he was an attractive older man.
Amazing professor. He is one of the most understanding and kind spanish professors you can get at north ga. He will never punish you for missing class and he can't stand to see anyone fail. He is full of compassion! Love him!
Dr. McNeer is a nice guy and he's really passionate about his subject. He's a great professor, but his class is extremely difficult. You cannot succeed without studying a lot...watch out for the quizzes because they're really hard to prepare for.
He's pretty good, however, I didn't feel like I learned a lot. There's plenty of work to keep up with (such as videos wacthed in class that need to be written about in Spanish), but it should be easy enough to make a good grade.
Gordon McNeer is an amazing person but his classes are extremely hard! He's kind and interesting, as well as extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter; however, he speaks in class as if he is speaking to fluent spanish speakers. Take him, but be prepared to work very hard.
Dr. McNeer is a great professor. Not only is he an expert in his subject, but he is extremely passionate and enthusiastic about it. The difficulty of his class comes from the fact that he actually wants his students to learn the material, not just memorize it ahead of class for a test. If you take one of his classes and stick to it, you will learn.
McNeer is very nice and genuinely wants his students to learn. His tests and quizzes and very hard, so studying is a must. He's an expert in his subject, so he is very passionate about Spanish and expects everyone else to be as well.
I absolutely loved Gordon McNeer. He is such an amazing person and teacher. He really encouraged everyone to succeed in his class and he was so helpful. His tests are not very hard, he gives 1/2 credit. I rarely opened my book. Hes the best teacher i've ever had. will take him again for another spanish class for sure! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Take the course if you are into history. Great if you read material. Not heavy on grammar more on information.
Very passionate about his subject. This was, for me, an extremely difficult class. It was very grammar heavy and Dr. McNeer expects his students in 2002 to been near fluency, which was not the case for me. Take his class if you're looking for a challenge.
This is literally the worst class I have ever taken. I went to his office hours multiple times and he did not help me. Teaches as if you already have a back ground in Spanish.
Dr. McNeer is the best professor I've had in college. Just pay attention and you will do well. He will always be there to help out if you need it. Becuase of him, I added Spanish as a second major. Take this class.
DOES NOT GO BY HIS SYLLABUS - This is a contract between the students and professor they have to go by it. Or they have to proved a new one.
He treats his SPAN 1002 students like they are Spanish majors and forgets that a lot of people take his class just for core requirements. He makes fun of students in Spanish if they don't understand what he is saying. He is very intelligent and enthusiastic about teaching. He is a good professor if you are majoring in Spanish.
He teaches like every one has taken multiple Spanish classes before. He doesn't follow the syllabus and only counts test and lab grades. He told us what our oral final was going to be the day before we had it and expected us to memorize thing that he never taught us. Overall a very difficult class if you have never taken Spanish before.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. He doesn't "grade" according to numbers, he eyeballs the test and says "you made an A. You made a B. You made a C." He misses class to go to other people's events, he grades horribly, and he includes information on the tests that isn't in the book. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER.
He doesn't go by the syllabus AT ALL. He might as well say that he will only grade the tests. Dr. McNeer has no idea when his own due dates are, and you might as well forget about the online work because the due dates don't match his schedule at all. Decent guy, but he needs to get out of the classroom.
Dr. McNeer is very passionate about Spanish & is there for you. He is very aware of how his students are doing in his class and will ask you questions in class based on your own skill level and will move on quickly if you don't know the answer. Make sure you do the online homework and the lab and study and you'll be fine.
Mr. McNeer is a wonderful professor! He has a lot of experience speaking and teaching Spanish so he knows what he's talking about. His teaching style is a little different from other teachers, but he's more than willing to help you out. In addition, he is very enthusiastic and passionate about the class so he doesn't let the class get boring!
He's an awesome professor. He's very funny and makes the class enjoyable.
Professor McNeer was great! I haven't taken Spanish in years and it was a great beginner course. McNeer was helpful and kind. He makes class fun with participation (which usually I hate) but it made class exciting and I learned a lot that way. The book is expensive. If you skip a few classes its okay. Not easy A because hard grader but so possible.
I was timid because of the reviews, however I hate Spanish and am not the best at it, and was surprised how how successful I was in the course. He is an easy grader, and passed every assignment I had. It can be intimidating because he calls on you in class, however there is no pressure if you do not know the answer. Glad I took this class.
I am not good at Spanish to begin with. It didn't help that Dr. McNeer taught the class thinking that everyone in there wanted to major in Spanish. He would ask you a question and if you couldn't answer within 3 seconds he moved on to someone else. He assigns tons of work and makes the class miserable.
Good teacher overall, makes the class interesting but can be a little forward with what he expects you to know as far as answering his questions in class but I thought the course was fairly easy and that he did a good job teaching it but a good bit of homework, if you talk to him he does answer any questions and really wants his students to improve
Professor McNeer is very passionate about Spanish. He cares for his students and wants them to improve. However, if you do not like participating you will not enjoy his class, he kind of forces you to participate. His exams are easy if you study and there is a lot of online homework.
Mr. McNeer is a great professor! Can't recommend him enough. He didn't have deadlines, so just don't get behind. Tests were reasonable but the final was tough (makes you work for an A.) His lectures were very interesting and fun. You will be called upon to participate.
Take McNeer's class! He is the funniest professor I've ever had and cares more than anyone. I had him for SPAN1001 and paid $50 to sign up late for SPAN 1002 just to take his class. There's always a part of the test that you have to memorize trivial facts from the culture section, but I never made less than an 87 on a test. Great guy.
Is very into Spanish, but not very well at teaching it. He assumes you know much more than you actually do and will treat you as such. He is a very in your face teacher and picks on many students quite often. I would not have taken if I would've known...
McNeer is definitely passionate and has a great sense of humor, but his teaching capabilities were not the best. His tests were quite challenging, and this was a drastic change from 1001. I would't recommend taking this class if you aren't serious about Spanish or if you are just looking for an elective course. He does call you out to participate.
This guy is a big NO! He speaks Spanish 90% of the time. If you've never taken any Spanish before, McNeer will make fun of you for it, and he'll do it in Spanish. Just don't. Wait until next semester and get another professor. GPA killer.
Mr. McNeer is a super great guy and made class fun. I had him at 8am and it was kind of a lot because he is all up in your face because he values participation from everyone. His tests, compositions, and online assignments are super easy as long as you do them on time. Would definitely take his class again.
Mcneer was a very fun guy to have Spanish 1 with. He's also a good teacher, if you've had a minute amount of spanish background. For his whole class it's important not to procrastinate, because the deadlines for homework and labs are close to each other. The only negative side is the culture questions which are a relatively large part of his tests
He expects you to have had some spanish before... I would have not done so well if I had not taken Spanish in high school. He moves really fast so be sure that you are taking time outside of class to review. Tests are pretty difficult, but the lab grades and other grades kinda cushion it. A lot of online homework, but most is on quizlet- copy&paste
Though he seems like a good guy, his teaching is sporadic and the tests do not reflect what is learned in class. Everything I learned for the tests I learned on my own using the textbook. Don't take him if you are anxious when put on the spot, because he will call on you all the time.
Although he seems to be a great and smart guy, Mcneer is not a very good professor. DO NOT take him if you dont have a background in spanish! He rarely speaks English in class, and uses interrogation as his teaching method. You will be asked multiple questions every lecture. Not good for beginners at all, but he is decent if you do know spanish.
Professor McNeer is a good choice for your first Spanish class IF you already know a decent amount of Spanish. He rarely speaks English in class and calls on the same students multiple times over. This class heightened my anxiety about being called on in class, but was overall okay since I already speak Spanish at an intermediate level.
Good professor; the only negative is that he speaks in Spanish the ENTIRE time. However he makes the class easy and if you study a little it's not bad. I made A's on all his tests and I'm not good at Spanish.
This class was extremely hard for a level one Spanish course. The tests are not reflective of the material studied in class and he oftentimes put lessons that we have not reached yet on the test. When asked about this, he was very rude and showed no sympathy. DO NOT take him for Spanish.
He is a great professor dont get me wrong, but hes not clear at all with his assignments/tests. For the final I wasnt sure of what to study. I dont think I passed. He also is the type that speaks spanish when you need things said in English. I would not recommend having him unless you took spanish all 4 years of HS or already speak it.
Dr. McNeer is okay, he was very nice and relatable but his class was very very hard. There was also an excessive amount of homework but any class that uses TopHat will be like that. There was no Oral Exam that I recall.
I had McNeer my freshman spring semester (spring 2019), and let me tell you, it was... interesting. He'd come up to you and ask you a question, and wouldn't leave you until you answered. Other times, he'd go over a topic, tell you to discuss amongst yourselves, and then immediately move on not two minutes later. Wasn't a big fan but eh.
Assuming you take him in an online scenario, he might be much more different than the people below me are saying. So far, i found McNeer to be quite pleasant, helpful, and certainly understanding. He isnt too tech savvy, and i ran into a few hiccups here and there, but he's pretty decent!
I took his online class and I thought he was great! Super funny and very helpful. He did want you to participate, but if you didn't know the answer he was always really nice and helpful about it. Maybe his class is different in person, but I loved taking it online. We had zoom meetings, but they were optional and he recorded them if you missed.
The best professor out there. He is so sweet and his class is really easy. All the stuff on VHL is on quizlet which is a life saver. You will have an oral exam and written exam! Don't stress very easy! I have a lot of respect for this man and he cares for his students!
Professor McNeer is a very kind teacher. If you are struggling with certain aspects, you can email him and he will go above and beyond to find additional resources you can use to strengthen your skills that are weak. He provides good feedback and corrects each grammatical mistake he sees so that you learn from them. Do the VHL homework!
He was the most delightful teacher I've ever had. He is funny yet challenging in class. He's passionate about what he teaches and does it well. If I had to take any more language classes, I would do it with him. He wants students to succeed while learning.
I love Gordon he is literally so passionate about what he teaches. I would recommend the class if you don't mind getting called on during class or him asking you questions but he does it in a way that will make you feel comfortable!! You do have an oral exam at the end of the semester though that you perform in front of class.
Overall great teacher, just a lot of simple work
Gordon is by far one of the best professors/teachers. The textbook is online, and kind of expensive but your homework is online through the textbook. All test and final were online. The only part that I struggled with was the oral exam at the end. Overall, he was great! I recommend him! 10/10 :)
I loved Dr. Mcneer! He is so energetic and full of life his class was rarely boring. He makes you talk to the people around you a lot, but it's just for practice. The online homework was very easy and he didn't ever expect anyone to be perfect. He is very helpful when you have questions and usually clears up any confusion! I totally recommend him!!
Gordon is a great professor. However, this class has a language lab which means additional work - the lab is strict on being on time. If you show up, he will engage with you in class. He is understanding and overall listens. He is a very passionate teacher! Tests are online and pretty simple. Just keep up with your work and you should be just fine.
Professor McNeer was so fun during his lectures. He is a great teacher and you can tell that he is very passionate about the Spanish language. Be ready to participate in class, he encourages speaking and will ask questions. But he will help you if you need it. Overall, it was a great course.
McNeer is a very passionate and energetic professor. His class was always engaging which I appreciated. He will call on you often. It has been the easiest course I have taken in college. There is a decent amount of required homework online, but it is very easy. If you put in a little bit of effort and do all the assignments, you will get an A.
Online quizzes every Friday with a lockdown browser but no camera. Textbook has assignments that are online too. Professor McNeer is a funny and nice guy and has a lot of stories to share. If you pay attention and do the assignments you should be fine.
Kind of weird... lots of online homework and expensive textbook. Hes super old. He has an obsession with poetry and art-- never lets students out early even if there's nothing to learn.
He's nice most of the time, but he sometimes would get in a mood and would make you feel like a terrible student. Always lore-dropping. His Spanish was kind of hard to understand. Says it's the way Spanish is supposed to be spoken, but the native speakers couldn't understand him. He was a good professor however
Be prepared to be called on multiple times each class. Tons of busy work/ online homework every single day. Not understanding with late assignments/ missed classes. However he seems nice enough and is very passionate about what he does.
Overall great teacher its just his lectures are very slow and drawn out and boring but all tests and quizzes are online and is very lenient when helping you in the class.
Great professor, does take attendance but it isn't mandatory. Lots of online homework, and an expensive textbook (I think all Spanish classes use it though). Will call on you in class. Quizzes and exams are fairly easy.
Professor McNeer is one of my favorite professors I've had. He is passionate about Spanish culture and language and simply wants to share it with you. Let him. He asks you to engage in class! He will greet you by name and wants to see you succeed. There is no more HW in his class than any other. He's a blessing to have and his class is fairly easy.
Very passionate about Spanish. Very interesting teaching style and very engaging. If you have to take Spanish take it with him! Made an A and I suck at Spanish.
Prof McNeer is definitely my favorite spanish instructor I've had through out school. He makes lectures interesting and fun. I took three years of spanish in high school but Prof McNeer helped me really understand the spanish language. He's a great professor overall and I would recommend him to anyone!
Take Dr. McNeer for SPAN1001 if possible! Such an easy GPA boost considering as long as you do your homework you'll make an A. There were only 2 exams and then the final. All three of these were online and extremely simple. There is homework every night but it is mostly a review from class and takes 5-15 mins max.
McNeer was overall a good professor. He is not lecture heavy, but he does tend to go off on random subjects. If you pay attention, you will pass. Make sure that you have money on the ready for the textbook; you will need it the first day of class as there is homework. Good guy and would definitely take again.
