Very challenging and demanding, but lively and funny.
a funny guy and an interesting class. difficult to know what is due sometimes though. Tough grader but fair and is willing you help you improve correct mistakes. Never a dull moment. llama.
this class is okay. he grades essays hard but go to his office hour for help. he gives reading quizzes that can be tricky but mostly easy if you did the reading, class is funny and he is a little crazy
A little crazy but that kept it entertaining. he's very open minded when it comes to what you papers can be on which was nice. If you want to learn he is ready to help you.
He doesn't stop taking about his alleged wife who supposedly lives in greece. As for the class, there are a lot of assigned readings. He thinks EVERYTHING has a subtext, even if it really doesn't. He's evil; he lives for ruining students careers.
He loves to teach and it is obvious in his attitude. He expects students to read everything assigned and gives quick quizzes. He is lively and very informative. I don't like English, and he made me love literature.
He is really good. He makes the lesson funny and interesting. He gives concrete and clear examples and helps students learn. He is not boring at all.

When I graduated ARC, the Pres. asked us to think of the Prof who challenged us the most—I thought of Gordon. Now in my 3rd semester at SFSU, he is still the best prof. EVER. He TYPES thorough RESPONSES to all the major essays. I kept them & use them now. Take Gordon, only if you want to learn.
Mr. Roadcap made English an easy subject to learn. His sentances were helpful and sometimes they were funny. He has a lot of life stories and loves to share them which makes the class even funner. If you struggle with English you must TAKE Mr. Roadcap. He's also not bad on the eyes. Super Great
He is very funny and he makes the class interesting. He is very knowledgeable, very confident and very down to earth person. He gives a lot of homeworks but I really learned a lot from him.If you take him as your teacher, you'll find finals easy!!!

One of the most intelligent people I have ever met in my life. The grammarian status is somewhat irritable, but his issues are on par with the ever evolving world, and not only this, but he spells out everything he wants for clearly, even if it is a little excessive. A must on this campus
He tells different stories off the subject. If you are not trying, he will fail you. Hint: as long as you are a hardworker, he will help you to get the grade you want only if you do your best. DO NOT SLACK OFF in his class. He is good at helping you if you come to his offce hours.
Gordon is one of the most coolest teachers. I hated english classes but he makes it interesting. He is not really easy, but if you keep up with the assignments and take advantage of his office hours you won't have many problems in his class. Highly recomended!

Gordon Roadcaap kept class intresting through his humourous stories and jokes that always had the class intrested to see what he was going to say next.He is definitly not a teacher that will put you to sleep. Infact he always had my class on the edge of their seats waiting to come back to his wise crack remarks.

he is not clear in explaining exactly what is req. nor does he make the class interesting. He often talks to himself and goes onto his own world. I wouldn't recommend anyone take his class, he req. almost double the work of other instructors.

Roadcap is one of the best teachers I've had. he if funny and whitty and will help you out with anything. I just wish I had taken him for my Engwr 301 class.
I took this class online. This is the only class that I have ever dropped before, and I have been at ARC for 4 semesters. I dont know how his class is when you see him face to face but I do not recommend him for his online class. The amount of work he makes you do is outrageous!!!
Gordon is by far my favorite teacher. He really has a passion for literature. The class is very hard and he requires a lot of work, but it isn't busy work. He really challenges his students.
Gordon is a great teacher, don't take his class if you don't do homework because then you will fail. He is very helpful and he always keeps you interested in what he is going to say next. He is not bad to look at either. One of the greatest teachers I have had. A MUST!

Roadcap was old school harsh, but in a good way. I liked coming up with topics for the essays, and the quizzes were always amusing. I'd recommend him to anyone who wants a challenge, and have fun ^^
He's cute, humorous, knowlegeable, & energetic; although popularity was his main concern. His communication skills are lacking, & often he speaks before he thinks. e.g. his fat jokes when an obese student is present. He's small in stature but sexy, cute like a puppy dog. As a prof, one can never tell exactly what he expects or wants in a paper.
It is very difficult to pass his class. He talks about random things that don't really help you with essay writing.

Gordon is a great proffesor with high standards for all of his students. His class is normally interesting because he is extremely animated. Also, he is very passionate about his subjects which makes the class more enjoyable. I would recomend him to anyone who is willing to work and looking for an interesting professor.
Gordon is the best professor I've ever had! He was awesome. I looked foward to going to his class every week. However, be prepared to work hard. This class is definitely not and easy A. You have to write alot, but it's worth it to have him as an instructor. If you have a good work ethic and like a challenge, take his class. You'll love it.
Total Jerk. Does not teach at all, and expects his students to have a prior knowledge of poetry, regardless of the fact this class is an intro... Not clear about what he wants on his assignments, talks about current events and irrelevant nonsense, and likes to insult people. I am a straight A student and got C's on his assignments. AVOID THIS JERK!

the class lecters are amazing and usually really fun but he grades hard on the essay's. Read the standards and follow them or you wont pass. all teacher student comunication should be done in writing

He is a nice guy, talks about interesting subjects during the class. As far as his teaching goes he is hard. He isnt very how shall I say clear on the assignments. most teachers give an example essay or help the student with forming some type of essay during class, he doesn't. MLA is more important then anything else in his class. Also he is kinda crazy.

Horrid! This is the worst instructor that I have EVER had. He is rude, obnoxious, and really nerdy. The talks a lot about subjects that incorporate his daily interest rather than knowlegde necessary for the English class that he is supposed to be instructing. Gordon is Great!! You gotta have a sense of humor in his class, he'll keep you laughing! Very clear on his expectations, so there are no suprises with him, and he is extremely helpful during his office hours. He is a tough grader, but he'll teach you a lot.
Gordon is a great Professor; he makes his classes hard and informative and provides every opportunity to get an "A" if you are willing to work for the grade. If you are lazy and not open to learning, then you will probably write a negative comment and blame it on him. Take his class if you want to learn and improve your writing skills.
I don't care what ANYONE says. Gordon is the most down to earth professor I've ever had. Very clear, helpfull & you will be prepared for ANY english class you take after you've had him. Offers extra credit once in a while. Lets you know what you need to improve on & how to do it correctly. Very critical grading, but trust me, you won't regret it.
Loved this class, and love Gordon. Contrary to what others say, he is extremley helpful, and if you pay attention in class he really helps on the essays. Some think he assigns alot of writing and reading... it is a college English class! Do the work, make an effort- you'll pass. And, he's hilarious. Worth taking the class just for his stories.

Goodness. People seem to not like this man. Yes it is kind of a hard class, demanding, lots of daily reading but come on, its college-grow up. Don't come to this class expecting to just read a bit, B.S. a paper, and expect a good grade. You have to bring something with you, not just your presence.

He's a tough grader, but if you only have easy graders you won't learn much, and really that's what its all about. He is knowledgeable and passionate, exactly what you need in a great professor.

He has ENERGY! Very entertaining. Classes are vibrant and engaging, if a little chaotic. He isn't the clearest teacher, but will help you if you ask. He has a tenancy to say crude things, which can make him look a bit unprofessional. Though I don't think he is mean-spirited, just a bit eccentric. Has interesting fashion sense!

Reading quizzes almost every class day, and spends way too much time talking about his life stories than the actual class material.He likes poems so almost every class member received an A on the poem essays. He is a very difficult teacher. However, he has been the best teacher I've ever had. I probably didnt do well on my essays, but as you are going to find out, in college, your greatest professors will not only teach you a subject, but also lessons for life.

Honestly, I don't know what other students who gave him bad ratings are talking about. Yes, his classes are difficult and he has high expectations, but I find it refreshing. He makes you work for a good grade so that in the process of achieving that goal you will actually learn something. A very worthwhile and memorable professor.
If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. Pretty good teacher but grades essays hard. Oh, and don't even think about missing a deadline. Very anal about turning in work on time (as he should be. Its college folks). I would not take him again. Although he's very entertaining and funny.

professor roadcap has wayyyy too high of exceptions for an English writing 102..you also have to turn your essay to turn it in .com..which sucks because before you turn in your essay to him..you have to turn it in.com 1st..and if that program finds couple of words that you got from the internet it will consider it as plagiarizing..oh and he thinks

I LOVE Gordon. All he expects is for you to follow the guidelines set. Totally a stickler for MLA but welcomes anyone to come to him for questions. After every essay he writes a letter telling you exactly what you did well and what and how you can do better. Loved reading the scandelous stories, he's been all over the world, and is real paasionate!
Roadcap is an amazing teacher. I attended almost all of his classes yet I am pretty sure I am going to maintain a "c". It all depends on the effort you put in, I didnt apply myself as much as I should have. Anyways, you must have an open mind with him cause his jokes are mostly sexual, but funny. Dont get offended. He is oddly attractive too ;)

i took this class hoping that my ideas would count because in english lit ideas arent apparent, but he did not budge on different ideas. had a hard time comprehending his quick talk. very rigid when it comes to working with students schedule even when there is emergency. had a tough time in his class. seemed like i was blacklisted or something.

He is a painfully stereotypical english professor, which makes things a little easier if you know how to deal with them. He gives a lot of freedom if you want to be creative, but within the academic standards he expects. Meh.

This professor is one of a kind... not in a good way. class dicusions are entertaining but absolutely innapropriate. every topic in class deals with sex of some sort. He seems like a easy grader but once you get into the essays you will realize he is very harsh. the worst part is h gives absolutely no feedback whatsoever!!! Do not take roadcap...
Gordon has a skewed sense of humor, but he's absolutely hilarious. He's approachable, he cares, and he's a wonderful teacher. His lectures are thought provoking and his enthusiasm for literature is infectious. If you're a serious lit major, he is a must have.
He is an OK teacher, and has pretty interesting theories. He grades hard on MLA, which I never liked because MLA is constantly changing. He would often make uncomfortable statements about himself during class. However, he is helpful if you take initiative. Very accessible to students.
If you are not a strong writer and/or sexual jokes make you uncomfortable, DO NOT take this class. If you have one of these problems, you're going to be like the rest of the bitter raters on this site. If you're a good writer, he will make you a better one. If you're not, you're probably going to get frustrated and drop this class. I enjoyed it.
Worst teacher ever! if you dont come to class or show up 5 min late he wont take any assignment and will grill you in class. Assignments are based on his openion and how he feels you did so even the hardest workers who dont see eye to eye get a B in the class. Lots and lots and papers all are 1000+ words and even a few 1500+words without quotes

This teacher befriends you at first with his jokes and stories but he is truly very difficult. Gives no slack on grading much less help! Papers to be written by students are more based on his opinion! Pick another teacher!
He is a great teacher. His class is only hard if you do not read the syllabus and/or do not ask questions. He is always willing to sit down and talk about your paper, to offer advice and where you can find great notes. You NEEEEED to read the stories, if you do, its easy an A on the quizzes. He will definitely make you a better writer!
Roadcap is wonderful professor. I had to brush up on my skills and get ready for my ENGWR 102 class and I took 43 since nothing else was available at that time. I was very glad I took his class, I love his style of teaching English Writing. You are awesome Gordon! I highly recommend him!!!

He has high expctations in the beginning of class, every class. Explains poems in details. Hard grader but made poetry interesting. He does read all the poems the same way, not a plus. It gets boring once reaching the end of the semester.
Amazing prof, genius writer,not really for you if you want an eazy A. If you are an artist/ aspiring artist, he will inspire you, the most inspiring teacher I ever had. So real, teaches you how to get down to the core of any peice. He writes a page and half critique of you'r papers. Awesome/Real/Insperational. A bargain for JC.
Excellent person and teacher, EXTREMELY tough grader (expects 1250 word essays). Focuses a great deal more on poetry than any other style, and as others say, it gets really boring come the end of the semester. Would HIGHLY suggest taking the class from a different professor.

A very nice laid back teacher. He will often tell jokes or interesting story. Get ready for some of his jokes to be awkward at first but you will get used to his sense of humor. He is a great teacher and wants you to do well. I would definitely recommend taking his class!

I think some are mistaking his thorough critiques for difficult grading. Not a hard grader—his assessments are meticulous so that you know exactly how to improve your work. He is idiosyncratic, but who can’t appreciate that? He’s also hilarious, enthusiastic, engaging, caring, and wicked genius. Ridiculously hot. Not so good at spelling names.

If you are an Eng. Major, take Roadcap. His class was extremely challenging, but I learned a lot. I suggest taking easy classes the semester you take him, or you won't be able to keep up with the homework. If you are just looking to get through Eng. requirements, do not take this teacher! But if you love Literature and poetry, don't miss him.
Gordon is probably the hardest English teacher on campus. He has strict rules to follow and his grading scale shows that as well. His goal in Engwr102 is to prepare you for 300. So 102 feels like a 300 class because of that. He is not someone to take if you are looking for an easy A. His classes are very enjoyable because of his sense of humor.

Gordon is a fantastic teacher and he helped me a lot to get prepped for 300. I enjoyed going to his class every week and even made friends with him outside of class. We read a great book and the chapter quizzes were so easy. He made English fun and said a lot of funny/weird jokes but he is a fantastic teacher.
The text book is not used a lot in class, but he prepares the students very well. Furthermore, the textbook and the novels are worth keeping.

Yes, his class demands a lot of hard work. It will feel like boot camp if you are a lazy type of English lover... BUT it's worth it!
While Roadcap's class isn't an easy one but he is EXTREMELY helpful! He tells you exactly what you could improve to get the grade you deserve. If you follow his instructions you will improve and get good grades in his classes. Quizzes are easy if you read the assigned work. Really heavy on MLA being correct very clear teaching style.
I think that he is a good teacher but he can sometimes be confusing when giving directions. He is definitely a hard grader but he allows for one rewrite throughout the semester. He likes to tell stories and make jokes which can sometimes be fun and other times hindering because I just want him to get on with teaching. I defintely learned a lot.
It took me a while to determine exactly what he wanted from his students, but once I did I was able to nail his assignments every time. Do the readings, follow the essay prompts, and ENGAGE IN HIS LECTURES.
Roadcap is a good teacher, but the entire class is basically reading all kinds of poems, short stories and plays. Then you write an essay in each of those sections. He has a very specific format he wants you to write and you will get docked points if you name isn't in the right character size. But he proof reads every essay which is helpful :)
If you are coming from an ESL class I wouldn't recommend him at all. Explains everything clearly but he is a very tough grader.
This guy has passion. His lectures consist of engaging analysis of poetry. If the class is lost he prods at things to consider discussing about the poems. His papers are very critical and he is a harsh grader. If you follow what he asks for you will learn an obscene amount about your own writing. if you are serious about writing, take him.
Roadcap is a tough grader but he is very clear on your assignment what you need to improve. You must know your MLA or you will be docked points! but he is very helpful and my writing has improved immensely. However, if you don't like English to begin with I recommend you stay clear. If you really want to improve your writing take him.
He is one of the most eccentric teachers I have ever had (this is a good thing). He is incredibly easy to get along with and very funny. He may be a tough grader but that is a good thing; this way you will learn from your mistakes and improve yourself as a student overall (especially if you are an English major). I highly recommend him.
He makes sexual and jokes about his love life on the regular. He talks through your quizzes and your final. His instructions are unclear and he gets mad if you don't understand them. He is a tough grader and not very helpful. Take someone else if you can.
The only reason Gordon Roadcap is not given a higher rating is because he makes his students work for their A's. Yet, this hard work and discipline is what allows his students to improve their writing immensely. If you like a challenge, take his class, it is worth it. He is also very supportive and gives good feedback. Would take this class again.
I regret taking his class, his instructions are unclear. The way he wants you to write your papers are confusing without an example and expects you to have it written the way he does. He makes random comments on your papers that you turn in without really giving you good feedback. If you want a challenge of bad then take him.
He is a cool professor outside of class when you go talk to him but I told him in the begging of the semester that I struggle with essays and that I try my hardest and I need improvement I know that so help me and he gave me a D+ and I just cried I tried hard and he's just a stickler for stupid things it's miserable
AMAZING! I'm so happy to have had him as a teacher. Not only has he improved my english but he also inspired me to write for pleasure. Visit him in office hours. He will help and give great feedback. He goes out of his way to truly help you understand what you are missing. I was lucky to have had him!!!
Taking his class was definitely a learning experience. If you are not passionate about writing or your major does not revolve around English, I do not recommend that you take his class. Because he cares and is passionate about his job, he wants the students to be as interested in the class as he is. He's a funny guy but also a bit awkward.
Gordon is an amazing professor. Not only is he passionate about what he does, but he's funny as hell too. However, there is a lot of work required. EngWr 101 consisted of essay after essay while reading a numerous amount of articles. I genuinely put in a lot of effort into this class and enjoyed it. He's easy to talk to as well, I felt comfortable.
Enjoyed his class. However the work load can be overwhelming. You will always be working on an essay. The articles and journals may seem pointless at first but they end up really helping on essays. Gordon is funny and makes the subject more interesting. He always gives great feedback on work. If you love English, I recommend his class.

Roadcap is an interesting teacher he loves english and his job, he's kinda difficult if you're not into english so beware. Make sure you do your work and keep up, if you need help go to WAC. He will give you time in class to work on essays take those times to bring your computer and get his feed back. Journals are worth your time they will help you
Best English teacher I've ever had. His prompts were straight forward and he'll usually guide you towards some great topics to write on regarding the material. In depth feedback and funny to boot, you can tell Gordon loves his job and cares about those who are interested in this subject. Just read and engage with him and you'll be rewarded.
This teacher is funny and interesting. You will get feedback on your essays (like a page long of feedback) but TBH, if you are not an English major or passionate of the class, do not take the class. Hes a tough grader especially with your drafts(and that's not even your final draft). The work load is overwhelming. Not taking his class again.
I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn. I thought I knew everything about righting but learned so much more. Its not hard but it is a lot of work. Just stay on top of the reading when assigned and the papers and you should be good. Take an easy class and you may not learn whats needed to pass the exam after WR300. Best feedback!
I can understand why some people may not enjoy this professor but if you don't put in the work then your not gonna do well. He makes class fun, he rambles a lot but it makes the class better. Show up to class, follow syllabus and do your work. In the end he really wants his students to succeed. Got lazy in the end and ended with a C lol

Toughest grader I have ever had. Gave poor advice for essays and was never clearly specific as to what he wanted for the essays.
Suppose to be a 101 intro class, however, he teaches it like its a 300 already. He acts like everyone must be an English major, he's a hypocrite on what you write in your essay even if actually ANSWERING the prompt. 6 essay to write in 101, I'm writing 4 essays in 300, didn't help me prepare AT ALL. IF YOU REALLY WANT TO LEARN, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
His 101 class made 300 easy because he taught us a clear process for writing. For every essay, we would have little due dates for portions of the essay--like prewriting, then thesis and outline, then a body paragraph, then the essay for peer editing. And every one of those steps, he reads and reviews them so that we know if we're on topic or not.
I really liked this professor. he is super funny and laughs at his own jokes when no-one does. I actually learned how to write proper essays. he breaks them down into thesis for one day, then outline, first body paragraph and grades it each time. the only thing i did not like is that he had a lot of journals and unnecessary writing to do
No clear idea of what kind of papers are wanted and there is no rubrics, he can't figure out how to make online site work. every paper says it doesn't count towards final grade but the grades are incremental suggesting there is a rubric standard no one has seen.

Don't take this professor. He's a hypocrite on what you write in your essay even if actually ANSWERING the prompt. When he gives back your rough draft that he graded and the rough draft has a few corrections from him, it's a complete opposite. There are more mistakes that he found but didn't mark them because he has other essays to read and grade.

He turns most of his letures into politycal rants in the second half of the calss. He grades essays very harshly. there are a tonn of assignments, reading, and writing outside of class. He wants his students to do annotations like he does and there is not much room for creativity.
Professor Roadcaps class was very difficult for me, and I resented his strict grading (especially for MLA errors.) In spite of this, I strongly recommend this professor if you are an English major and are passionate about literature and writing. You will get an excellent education in this class. This professor is passionate about his subject.
This professor was the worst I have taken yet in my college experience. His grading methods made absolutely no sense while being incredibly demanding. I believe this professor cares very little of the fact that you might have a full load on your plate and only wishes you to care about his class. He is one of the worst experiences I have ever had.
Prof. Roadcap is an amazing teacher. Hes passionate and cares about his literature class. I had him for American Literature II. Just know that theres a lot of reading in the class, be on top of writing journal responses every day before the next class. He is very strict on time. Make sure you have no other classes. Time consuming!!!
This was my first semester of college and I was thinking WHAT THE HECK DID I GET MYSELF INTO! He's hardcore and don't play games. When you are asked to explain or do something in YOUR OWN words, it gets marked because it wasn't done how he would have. There is ALOT of writing but it's all a process. I was irritated with it but in the end it was ok
Normal amount of reading for an English class. In-Class essay feedback is not the best since a person can't read all essays. Go to office hours for actual feedback. Big emphasis on MLA. 5 essays and a final essay which is really just fixing the content of two past essays. Upbeat lectures. Ratings scared me but teacher is good.

Gordon is a stellar professor who makes you work for the grade you get. He puts a tremendous amount of effort into talking about the literature, so talk during class discussion and you'll enjoy it! He has many great stories from his travels and has a great sense of humor which he relates to the material. I would love to take another of his classes!
Taking Gordon's class was no walk in the park! The readings were drawn from popular culture, but ponderous if one was not used to it. It mattered especially since quizzes were based on the required readings. Essays were the usual 1250-1400 words (minus quotes and works cited). I particularly hated/loved the writing process. Put in the work.
he makes you do discussions or else he will mark you absent. His lectures are lengthy and often times you find yourself not listening until something actually important arises. All the discussions you do aren't even graded which could give so many points. Hes funny but hes too hard of a grader. Wish he didn't act so harsh during covid.
Hes a truly bad teacher. He gives assignments that he doesn't grade, if you're late by even 1 minute he refuses to grade your assignment. . He never gives good feedback. Hes the worst teacher I've ever had. If you want to actually pass a class with proper help. Take someone else. Seriously. He is the absolute worst English teacher ever seen.

He measured the margins of my paper with a ruler and then removed points because it was a centimeter off. If you come to peer edit without enough copies, he wont give you credit, even if you make an extra copy before it starts. Hes very into format but I dont think I ever got feedback on what I was saying in my essays.
4 essays + final. For each, submit a thesis/outline, a 2 page RD, and a full RD, and he gives feedback for each one. There is EC. Quizzes based off the reading, so don't fall behind. Discussion posts for participation, you can only miss 3. Lec are not too bad. He's a good guy, likes to joke. Don't expect an A if youre not willing to work for it.
Honestly even as an English major I really wasn't a fan of this class. I found the grading criteria to be insane, I wasn't a fan of it at all. If someone loves English, like me, I'd still recommend taking another class. His grading made no sense to me most the time and to be frank doesn't need to be the way it is. Just choose another English class.

This Professor's analysis with the assigned literature is so unhelpful, his lectures are terrible and I hated this class. He did not make literature exciting and if you can take any other Professor than him so you don't have to be dumbfounded by his terrible class.

This professor does not know how to use Canvas effectively. A syllabus was given at the beginning outlining when each assignment was due, although everything had to be deciphered as it was all acronyms. No reminders or assignments posted to Canvas. He was super strict on assignment criteria (which there is a ton) and was unforgiving with mistakes.
This professor was extremely strict when it came to completing coursework, so make sure everything is turned in not a second late or you will simply not receive any credit with no chance at redemption. Received an A in a follow up English class. The grading process was a bit ridiculous for what is basically an introductory course. He did not grade fairly and would not work with the students.
Definitely the most uncaring professor I've had. "Tough grader" does not do his unjustifiable grading justice. I enjoy strict professors who make me work hard, but he isn't strict for you. He is strict for himself. You know they're bad when even the most harding working students don't like him. Take this warning, don't even sign up for his class.
Walmart Gordon Ramsay. He's not just a mean professor, but a mean person. I'm not even sure how people are able to grade him as a good professor.
Took his class in 2019. Lectures can be a little boring and sometimes gets off topic, but you can tell he's passionate about poetry/literature. If you're looking to improve your writing skills, take him! Make it a point to meet 1-on-1 to discuss writing and tips. He will help! I learned a lot of valuable techniques that I still use to this day!
For a prereq class he was a very tough grader on essays and homework. His syllabus was full of abbreviations that made it hard to understand. Recommend: either have your own printer or spend a fortune printing all your types assignments, wants up to three copies of a 3-4 page draft. keep all that you turn in he (esp. annotated) to turn in again
Prof. Roadcap wasn't even suppose to be my professor for ENGWR 301. He's very difficult, & every time I turn in my essays, his feedbacks makes me feel depressed & want to quit college. I'm trying my best, but he gives words of discouragement every single time. His class is fast-paced, & I'm not good with reading, so it was hard for me to learn.
I would avoid his online classes if you have a full schedule. He's knowledgeable but classwork is VERY loaded and he grades essays quite harshly. The format is more appropriate for in-person learning. His syllabus is unusually complicated too. Make sure to schedule Zoom appointments to go over essays and general work, it will help with your grade.
All his lectures are done through Zoom which is over 2 hours, and they all correlate with discussion posts. He grades very harshly, essays and discursions. We only used the textbook in the beginning for about 5 short stories. Most topics we focus on, we only work on it for 2 days or a week MAX. Only one short story was made for an essay.
There's issues. Syllabus wasn't updated to consider his changes for this current semester, but confusion got cleared via email. Honestly, if you just read the manuscript standards, you're good for each journal you write. Quizes--only ever on short stories/plays/novels--were easy. For essay(s) (Only had to do 1), schedule zoom meetings to go over.

Worst Teacher since kinder that i've had, kicked me out when I was asking for help, does peer editing so he doesn't have to grade and he saves himself work and time. Focuses more on getting through the semester than helping improve our writing , all I got to say is helllll nawwww never again
Worst professor I've ever had!! His instructions were unclear and confusing, he had spelling mistakes, and couldn't explain things & got angry when questioned about assignments. Didn't offer an extension when my internet was out for 1 week and I couldn't do my HW online, unlike other profs who let me have an extension. DON'T TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!

He is specific in what he wants and doesn't have an issue clarifying if you ask. Do not be afraid to ask him for help, he is actually pretty easygoing to chat with and has good advice. I wish I would've tried harder in his class but life stuff got in the way. Just follow the syllabus and his printouts every week and you'll be fine.
This professor is a harsh grader. Even those who go above and beyond in writing feel the struggle in this class. I will say that he did help ME develop better strategies to write but don't take class if you're not prepared to put in lots of work and get your feelings hurt in the process. Chill dude seemingly, just crazy strict.

I took his class last semester. While knowledgeable and effective in answering questions, his teaching style is very strict, resembling a school environment. He strictly prohibits phone use and has used inappropriate language like F@#k, which I found unprofessional. His grading is rigid he even refused to grade my essay because i submitted late
He was fine. Little bit crazy! He was a very tough grader and his handwriting on his feedback was abysmal. Getting a good grade is not the hardest if you put in the work.

However, his feedback on essays definitely helped me become a way better writer and I was able to take his feedback and advice to improve my writing throughout the semester. You can only miss three days of class or he will immediately drop you. He has strict rules but just be ready to work really hard!

From the perspective of an English major, Professor Roadcap is the best, most critical professor I've had. He's a very tough grader. Expect to have his syllabus beside you while you write essays. Expect him to be critical of your work in ways you've never experienced. Expect to grow your ability to write essays like never before.

Do not recommend his class if you have a full schedule. Tough grader. Lectures would go off topic. Feedback often didn't make sense, and even if you asked him personally, he wouldn't really help. Lots of work. Expects too much from beginner students. Very sassy with feedback, almost like he is ridiculing you.
As Gordon himself put it "It's through tough love". He may not be very popular, but his high standards and the way he pushes his students to try their very best is something I swear by. I did fail his class, however I'd still 100% suggest students to take his class and learn through his philosophy. I would gladly come back and pass in his class.
Chill guy, however, the work load is unforgiving for working students. Discussion's are fine. Assignments could be a little weird but they're fine. Essay guidelines and grading was fine, often hard to interpret his criticism though. He gives a schedule of work due dates for the semester which was very helpful. Unlikely to take again though.
A lot about reading. Tough grader, make sure to meet all the requirements and get feedback before Turing in essay. Overall good man. Interesting conversations when talking about the book. Really tries to help to write a good essay.
Not the most supportive teacher and often explains things confusing even when asking for clarification I don't recommend taking this class many life problems will put you behind on work and there isn't much room for late work
