A very enthusiastic lecturer, although sometimes a bit corny. I imagine he is helpful, although I never had to ask for help. He is very good about providing students with notes which makes homework and labs pretty easy. 36-201 should be an easy A for anyone, even without prior stats knowledge.
Class is almost too easy - hard to pay attention. Great guy, though, and funny. Mannerisms make me laugh. Knows his stuff.
I appreciate the fact that he prints out the notes and hands them out at the beginning of each lecture. Just observing him give his lectures is entertaining. Great guy! The class, however, is too easy.
Easy. Very animated guy. IN love with Minitab. Don't BUY the textbook. SHOW UP TO LECTURE, TAKE NOTES, REVIEW FROM NOTES, and get AN A on the tests.
Super easy class - easier than AP stat. Good, funny, and very excited about statistics - like little puppy dog excited. Don't buy the book - he gives lecture outlines of everything. For HW you need one string of numbers from the book - that's it for the whole course. Try to get the free download of MINITAB to avoid running to the library at 2 am.
He's such a hyper person, though the morning lectures tend to put everyone to sleep haha. He's really helpful with all the homework if you need to ask him something, go ahead. Tests are ok if you pay attention. lecture notes are everything
Relatively easy if you pay attention in class and briefly review the material before the exam (and do the homeworks/labs). He's good at keeping your attention, and he has "outlines" of the notes so you only have to write the important stuff down. No textbook needed. Stay awake, take notes, do your work, and you're good. And know how to use Minitab.
He is energetic and very clear about all the information. The class is easy if you just use the lecture notes.
Had 36-201 with him. Super quirky and energetic professor who laughs at his own jokes. Everything is explained crystal clear. Sometimes I almost feel bad for him when students walk out halfway through lectures.
super easy. I literally never go to class, and I have an A.
This class was simple, but interesting. Professor Weinberg covers the typical AP stats curriculum through a series of clear, straight-forward lectures. There is no textbook and he uploads all of the lectures and lecture notes. He is very passionate about the subject and loves helping students who may be confused with the material.
This is a very straight-forward class. I think he has been teaching this course for almost 20 years or something. Really nice guy and very helpful.
Gordon Weinberg is one of the best professors at CMU. He is a very respectable professor. He is super clear with the requirements of the class. His resources on CMU Blackboard are so well classified that you can never be lost. I would take more stats classes with him if he taught them in the future.
Amazing teacher. will make sure you understand what he's taught in a very intuitive way.
The class is easy. Professor is nice and funny.
I have never taken stats before, so it was slightly more difficult for me versus other people who HAVE taken stats but he is such a great professor! He is always smiling and super passionate about making sure you learn the material. When I didn't do well on my midterm, he personally emailed me to come to OH to go over what I missed. recommend him
Such a nice guy. Gets taken advantage of by students
Prof. Weinberg is a fantastic lecturer and is incredibly approachable. I took 201 over the summer and it was incredibly easy using his notes and lecture material. Definitely recommend this course to all students, regardless of major.
Lecture materials very clear and concise.
HES AMAZING. He's always encouraging students to come to Office Hours, always has a smile on his face even though the material is awfully boring. He's very helpful always and a true gem.
Literally the best lecturer in my freshman year. He really knows what he's teaching and makes sure the students understand the lecture. Strongly recommend.
Great lecturer, clear and concise. Very clear about what is expected on exams and is very helpful with homeworks in office hours.
Great notes, never went to class and aced
Great professor. 10/10 would recommend
Lectures not mandatory and copies of notes posted after every class. Always incredibly quick to respond to questions and more than willing to set up a meeting. Really great teacher (I had him for 201 and 202).
Uploads hand-written lecture notes that are really useful for completing the labs and homework assignments.
Terribly slow at grading things so you don't always know how you're doing in the class, but makes lecture materials super accessible and uploads practice exams which are super helpful. He is such a great instructor!
Gordon is amazing, by far the best lecturer I have had at CMU. He wants everyone to get an A, and he does everything he can to have his students succeed. If I could, I want to take every class he offers.
Professor Weinberg is the best instructor I had at cmu so far. He gives clear explanations in lectures and he posts study materials and lecture notes online right no later than the day he gives the lecture. He tries his best to help his students. I highly recommend stats major students to take his class
This man should be standard of how CMU professors should teach. It doesn't feel like he's here just for research, as he really cares about his students! Wants all students to get A's and succeed. He posts A LOT of material to help you prepare for exams, and invites students to his office hours. Always has a smile on his face! Highly Recommended!
Might be the nicest professor on campus, and explains this very well. No additional work needed for this class.
Gordon is an angel. Notes are really clear and easy-to-access. has a lot of energy in class and made me want to show up. Gives a sheet of notes for each exam, and 2 sheets for the final. Always finished labs early. The projects are the hardest part of the course, don't procrastinate like I did. Wish he taught more courses!
Gordon is probably the best professor at Carnegie Mellon. He's extremely intelligent and wants his students to succeed unlike most Carnegie Mellon professors.
Professor Weinburg sets the bar for being an exemplary professor; he is extremely knowledgeable about his field and is passionate about helping his students. I learned a ton of content and enjoyed being in his class.
Best professor at Carnegie Mellon without a doubt. He genuinely cares and makes you feel like a person instead of a number, unlike other professors at Carnegie Mellon.
Im very bad with stats, and only took this course as a requirement. I watched lectures multiple times/went to office hours whenever I needed help with concepts/assignments. The grading was unfair, and I have compared my assignments with my friends and the sample papers. I tried to talk to him but he was rude and unfriendly & gave vague reasons.
The lectures and homework are really helpful but I recommend not underestimating this class, so make sure to study.
Weinberg is one of the best professors I have ever seen. He is extremely helpful when you have questions. His lecture is also easy to follow. He wants to clarify everything and make sure that everyone understand the concepts. If possible, I would definitely take more courses with him.
Professor was great, answers all your questions, super lenient with tests. The workload was amazingly light and as long as you somewhat pay attention in class you will do great.
Professor Weinberg gives a lot of homework, but they are easy and make you understand the class more. He prepares very well for lectures.
Gordon is the best professor at CMU without a question. Everyone on campus knows that as a fact.
Best professor at CMU without a doubt. That is what he is known for.
the class is especially easy if you've taken AP Statistics in high school
Professor Weinberg is great! I'd love to take another class of his - both 36-200 and 36-202 were clear and honestly, pretty easy. The class organization was fabulous - all the important files were in one place.
He is awesome. Super nice guy who is really passionate about his work and will help students directly. He knows what he is talking about and is an excellent teacher of the material.
I really love this professor. Go to his office hours! Not enough people take advantage of them. It helps a lot to have explanations one on one. He is also just the sweetest professor and genuinely wants you to do well. Dont skip lectures and pay attention!
I would honestly become his wife.
Gordon is the reason why I didn't transfer out of CMU. I had him as a freshman thinking other professors would be as good as him because he is by far the best professor at Carnegie Mellon. Like he is the type of guy to serve as a friend when you are struggling at CMU. He was that professor and mentor for me when I needed it the most.
Sweetest human being at CMU.
As someone who had never taken a stats course before, Weinberg made the material extremely easy to understand. He is the best professor at CMU and actually knows how to teach. Attendance isnt mandatory and if you dont attend the majority of classes you should be fine. The days notes are posted after every class which is helpful.
Honestly very inspirational and helped me transition from high school to college. Was expecting other professors to be as good as Gordon, but was sorely disappointed. He posts all notes with worked examples, sample midterms/finals/projects to practice and to know what you are doing, and if you are confused you can ask and he will answer concisely.
He is so nice, my friends like to say he is like a father figure always looking out for us. The day he explained skewness as the tail of the graph (which he turned into a dinosaur) I knew he was a professor who is here to teach because he loves it.
Actually took 24220, but couldn't find course code. SUPER easy course. I attended 3 lectures and had an exam average of 96, and this is my first stats course. Exams take 25 min and he gives you 80min plus a 3 page note sheet with all the formulae you could ever need. If you can multiply and also passed calc I, you can get an A here.
Great lecturer, incredibly kind, always understanding of certain issues that arise, responds quickly to emails as well despite having incredibly large classes.
This class was a breeze and Weinberg made the subject material really interesting. The course load is light and I would recommend to everybody!
pretty easy class if you pay a little bit of attention during lectures, professor is super nice and funny, would definitely take this course again
Amazing professor. Incredibly kind and a great teacher, which is a rarity in college. Answers emails super quickly and is always willing to explain concepts more clearly if you are confused. the course is also exceptionally organized, with everything on canvas and fillable notes always posted prior to class. cannot recommended prof Weinberg enough.
Professor Weinburg is a genuinely nice professor, who is smart and well respected. His course is super doable if you put in the work and attend lectures.
Professor Weinberg's is one of my favorite classes! He explains things clearly and the class is well-organized. I haven't really spoken with him personally but in class he always seems very nice and cheery. He also scans a copy of the lecture notes to canvas after each class so if you do miss a day you won't be left confused.
Love Professor Weinberg. Would take his class a thousand times if I could. Best professor on campus hands down!!!!!
And 36202 Very easy classes, but very interesting. Helped me choose my major. He scans the lectures and puts them online, makes it very easy to learn at your own pace. Most people don't end up going to the lectures, and you can do without them. Projects are challenging, but the TAs are very lenient graders. You get to bring a cheat sheet for exams.
Professor Weinberg is great & 36200 isn't tough. He is very clear in lecture and 36200 is basically all lectures with one weekly recitation (you get a 100 just for showing up, recitation isn't graded on anything except for completion of the lab). He always uploads the notes after lecture too and they are very clear and detailed.
Professor Weinberg is very passionate and friendly. He also explains the concepts well. His handwriting is not very well, though, but it doesn't affect his teaching very much. Overall, he is a good professor and his classes are great.
Such a nice guy and easy class too. It got boring at some times and by the end, many people stopped showing up to lecture because he posts lecture notes online and it is easy to review them and teach yourself. Final exam was probably the hardest but the projects and midterms were all easy. It was my easiest class at CMU so far.
Great guy. Kind, funny prof. with clear lectures. Delivers content well and makes statistics super interesting. Wish I went to lecture more often.
Professor Weinberg is very passionate about what he teaches and is a super kind individual! He always finds a way to make lectures interesting and informative. He is also quick in responding to emails and gives incredible feedback. For 36200, the homework was very light, and the exams were not too difficult. I would definitely take his class again!
He is so sweet and love his teaching!! I love the structure of the class and how informative his posted notes are.
He very much cares about the students. He made attending lectures in person worthwhile (even given the walk to the Mellon Institute), but also posts all lecture notes online.
Weinberg is the best
So I was in my sophomore year of high school when I took his course. To sum it up, he's incredible. His lectures are easy to follow and he checked up on everyone to make sure we were ok with the content. He's so patient, kind, and knowledgeable, and I doubt I'll ever meet a better professor than him. He also drew smiley faces. Like- who does that?
Professor Weinberg is the best. He is very passionate about what he teaches and clearly cares about the students. The workload for 36220 is manageable and the lecture notes are very helpful.
Makes boring lectures interesting. All in all, a really good professor... strongly recommended for future students.
One of the best CMU professors , he actually cares about students!
Weinberg is the absolute best. He's an incredible lecturer and makes the expectations for the class clear. All of the class materials are readily available on his (very organized) Canvas page. The content itself is among the easiest you'll find at CMU. You don't need to attend class to get an A, but I still recommend going because he's so awesome!!
Great Professor! The course is straightforward, with clear and easy exams. He scans the annotated material and puts it on canvas, making reviewing super convenient.
Best professor
Amazingly organized. He has all the materials for the course ready on canvas and truly truly prepares you for your exams. exams are extremely easy, knowledge from courses are useful, and he's just a great guy overall. Never went to lecture and ended up with an A just by studying the course notes and going to lab every week.
Extremely good professor
Genuinely the sweetest professor here at CMU. He is so understanding and impassioned about what he teaches. Although you can easily obtain an A in this class without ever going to lecture(it truly is that easy), I'd recommend going just because of how good of a professor/person he is.
He's genuinely so passionate about stats and it's extremely evident in his lively lectures. Extremely laid back and understands his class is usually on the back burner for most students. Definitely recommend!
