This course really made me interested in environmental studies. Very interesting material. Assignments mostly papers, no exams or quizzes (at least in my class.) She's very animated and passionate about the topics for the class, and it shows.

Take home final. Loves the topic.
Very easy class. Take home final. Practically got a 100% in her class. This is definatly a GPA booster
good class, very opinionated, which i like. class is very useless and this class is so easy that i dont even think about it.. which makes it harder.
She's kinda one-sided, teaches alot of her opinions. Would be nice if she took the middle once in a while, or played devil's advocate.
Her last name is WANG for crying out loud. How awesome is that? Other than that, I found it hard to stay awake most of the time. Easiest A yet.
Easy class, very easy class. Very biased, doesnt use a source for lecutres, only opinions. Made for those liberal environmentalists, as a conservative thinker there was a lot of fustration in the class. No need to go to class either, a very easy "A"
Easy class. I really liked it. Learned a lot. Made me think about my consumer choices.
good class, intersting topics, but make sure you keep track of your papers (we had some problems with grades not being accounted for last term)
Easy class. She's well organized but boring. Reads from powerpoints. She seems nice in class, but acts like she doesn't know you outside of class. I also hate the way she acts like she's too busy when you come to office hours. But you still learn from her.
Nice lady and very interested in the subject matter. Not very clear expectations and changed the form of the exams three times throughout the quarter. I don't think she has a clear grasp of students' understanding of the subject matter. Class covers a lot of material. Easy GUR
I really disliked this class. Grace is so biased! She used sketchy sources and does not talk about the other side of the issues. She changed/postponed every test which was not a big problem, but still a nuisance. We covered some interesting things in class, but if you take this class, you should look at the other side of the issue too.
Grace is awesome. She's friendly and personable and although she is one sided, people need to realize that this is an ENVIRONMENTAL studies class. She does a great job for a class this large. Nice professor! The only thing that would be nicer in her class is a little more discussion and less "sticking" to her notes.
Not very challenging.Shes well-intentioned but unstimulating.I agree w/comments about reading from powerpoints. I also agree that she always seems to be in a hurry to get you out of her office, like she just can't be bothered with you. How humiliating and rude.
She was so biased, her resources were terrible and often we non even credible. The Cascadia Scorecard is complete fabrication. I wrote the paper on it against her opinion and got an 8/20. When I confronted her about it she could cite no reason to not have given me full credit... Yet, when I asked her to raise my score she gave me an 8/10.

Probably the dumbest person every to obtain a graduate degree. Extremely biased and teaches that class to her bias and will dock you if you don't support her bia. Very frustrating and annoying.
A solid teacher, quite knowledgable, but too predictable. She reads off her powerpoints. It's true that she's biased, but the person who claimed she docked him because he disagreed with her is wrong for 2 reasons.I have diametrically opposite views too,but it didn't cost me.Also,a TA grades 1/2 her papers.Maybe it wasn't even Grace who graded his paper!
I agree that she is not going to punish you if you disagree with her environmentalism. I am far from being an environmentalist and challenged her a few times. Each time she made a fair effort to address my questions straight on. While she did not necessarily change my opinion, I respected her a little more for that. I got an A-minus, too! :)
Grace teaches students about environmental responsibility. She loves nature just as the other Huxley teachers. People who do not care about environmental issues should not take Huxley classes. I thought Grace was a good teacher and a wonderful human being. But I admit, I am "tree-hugger" environmentalist Huxley major.
great teacher
I think Grace is a really good teacher and knows her stuff really well. She is organized and passionate about her classes, and is very helpful if you have questions. She is friendly, fun, and makes class exciting. This is my first year at Western and this class was by far my favorite. I would highly recommend her as a teacher!
I learned nothing of substance in this very easy class. I wanted to talk to her about majoring in envi. studies, but she never seemed to be around campus. A bit rude during office hours.
1. Easy 2. Nothing new or original 3. how is "fast food natoin" a environmental book 4. reads from powerpoints 5. take it for the easy a, don't expect to get much new out of it.
Great class. Eye-opening and fun too. Really nice and funny professor.
She is way too self-righteous for me, and she just reads off the powerpoint slides, but she does say some interesting stuff and the class is pretty easy.
Class was easy and I really didn't need to show up every day to know what was going on. Very vague, generalized views on topics, I was thinking a 300-level class would be a bit more in depth but overall i liked the class.
i felt like i was in high school all over again with the class. Env. science 101 is much more interesting than 202 which is also an intro class. if taking this course for a GUR, take something else--it's all basic env. stuff that you probably already know, like recycling and crap.
Class was pretty easy! More interesting than environmental science! It's more like the little things you can personally do to help save the environment! Flush toilet paper and tissues... don't throw them away! Professor was okay... could be better, but gould be worse!
She is really excited about the subject, which makes the class more interesting. You don't really learn that much new information if you've taken envi. sci 101, but she does go more indepth. The tests are kind of random, but overall it is a pretty easy class!
Possibly the worst professor I've ever had. She's always the last one to show up to class, half her "lectures" are unrelated videos. She thinks that her class exist solely as a venue for her to promote her political agenda. AVOID.
Lame class. Covered lots of material, but not in depth at all. Wang seems to enjoy her one-sided lectures...pretty biased presentation style. Take environmental science 101 instead.
Grace knows a lot about policies and regulations and she is very helpful. However, it was difficult to meet her sometimes and talk to her outside of the classroom. I think she is a good teacher. I enjoyed her videos and PowerPoint presentations, but her tests were not always clear to me.
Her perspicacity is matched only by her pulchritude.
I thought she was a very understanding professor. I didn't have a chance to do the regular extra credit she gave out so she let myself and some other students do our own. The material in the class was easy for me because I was also taking ES 101 and they cover the exact same stuff almost.
A fairly interesting class. I didn't learn too much from her but a lot from her movies because that's what she generally shows during her lectures. Her tests are pretty ridiculous and she tests on acronyms! Lame. Not conceptual questions on the test. Worst professor I have had at Western.
grace is great, easy class learned a lot, i would highly recommend her.
She turns the lights on and off, which makes it hard to focus on taking notes. And her pride in her own environmental footprint can be overbearing.
This class really taught me a lot about living more sustainably. The lectures were very straight forward and easy to understand. She did, however, sometimes test on very small details. Overall, Dr. Wang was a good professor. Take this class if you are interested in the environment and how it is being affected.
trivial points on power point without elaboration.. massive and disconnected power points (60+ slides!) that seemed to be rushed through instead of talked about. inability to answer questions. i liked her personality, but probably the easiest/poorest prof i've had
Grace is really nice, I just don't think she puts up with anyone's crap. If you are immature and want a "do-nothing, boring" class, then don't take it. She assigns good reading material, the tests are fair (usually online), and the paper we had to write was not THAT strenuous. I recommend her!
If you can avoid taking a class with Grace - count yourself lucky! I was really interested in "explorations into env. studies" but it ended up being a class based on one website - one perspective only. She's a nice person but one of the worst professors I've ever had. If you like easy, useless, boring classes than take Grace Wang!
Barely touches on topics, no depth or value to information
I found her material really engaging and interesting. She is passionate about what she teaches and I believe she does an excellent job teaching. I took environmental studies 202, it was a great class, no texts books were used but we read 2 novels and the tests weren't too hard and were mostly on lecture material.
Great teacher. I liked her a lot her lectures were very clear and relevant to the quizzes. Final exam was actually not difficult. Read two novels that were interesting. Overall easy class I recommend it.
I've taken a few classes with her now, and would take another if I could. A lot of writing (papers + take home exams) but she is a very easy grader. You learn a lot from the readings and reaction papers, and she is always available for extra help. You can tell she really cares about teaching. Super nice, really funny, definitely worth taking!
Fabulous great lecturer, great prof all around great! Class was always interesting and the tests were straight forward if you attended class. Only complaint is the amount of movies we watched.
This professor is awesome, she teaches everything really well and actually has an extreme liking for the topic! I learned a huge amount. Her guest speakers aren't amazing, but her lectures are really awesome. And no textbook! Whoop whoop!
I've taken 3 classes with Grace and she is by far one of the best professors I've had at Western. She makes issues easy to understand and is clear about what she wants in her assignments. She's also very passionate about environmental studies and a great, engaging lecturer.
Ridiculously easy class, watched movies half the time. Took her for 197C and ESTU202. Seems like a nice lady, but is not the best professor. Half the class was pro-environmental propaganda. I want to be engaged and educated, not preached at and told how to think. Not a class worth taking.
Absolutely wonderful class, fueled my now strong passion for the environment! I am minoring in Environmental Studies because Grace made it so easy to fall in love with. Tests were not hard and she really cared about whether the class was engaged. Took 197C and 202 with her...both awesome. 197C had different speakers every class on different topics!
This instructor is enthusiastic about the class and it translates well to the students. She conveys her passion about the environment, but importantly is also pragmatic. I heartily recommend this instructor for anyone interested in environmental studies.
I really liked Dr. Wang! She was nice, clear, reliable, and interested in the subject. I'm a little bias on the subject as I want to major in Environmental Studies, so I won't comment on the course content. But, overall, Dr. Wang was a great professer. I highly suggest her!
Great class! You have a few questions from the book, although its not life or death. Wang made the class fun with videos and not a lot of lectures. If you get a chance to take the class do it.
I loved this class and looked forward to it. Professor Wang typically lectured or showed videos. Take notes, but you only need to know the material that she bolds or colors (any of that could be on a quiz). Quizzes are short and easy if you pay attention, memorize the few things she tells you to memorize, and read through your notes.
Great teacher. Not intimidating at all and grades easily. She is interested in students participating and actually learning. participation is a large portion of the grade so if you hate going to class I would not recommend her. Overall, if you go to class, show you care about your learning, and do the work you can get a good grade.
Great professor. Knows what she is talking about and is good at keeping the class interesting.Lots of movies!
Dr. Wang was a very good professor. She made sure her class was interesting, and it most definitely was. We watched a lot of videos and movies. The only thing I would like to point out is the fact that her tests/quizzes were a little harder than you would expect. Minus that fact, Dr. Wang was very passionate and a wonderful lady.
Fantastic class!I would recommend this course to anyone regardless of major. Very relevant.
This class is an easy A. You have to go to all the lectures because there's a guess speaker each time who you have to write a short journal entry about. Journal entires and essays are super easy and short. She pretty much automatically gives you 100% as long as you do them. She never actually teaches, it's just guest speakers
Grace made class very easy to follow. Presented slideshows every day and text in red was important and what we needed to know for the tests. There were two lengthy quizzes and a final exam. There is also an extra credit opportunity. The book is an easy read and used for the second test.
This is a very easy class, but it comes across as propaganda half the time, which was really annoying. I would still recommend it if you like environmental stuff.
Dr. Wang is probably the most coolest prof ever. She is so into the environment and teaching about the environment and the coal trains and such. The class was easy, just a midterm and then a final which are not multiple choice, but very easy. I enjoyed this class and learning from Dr. Wang
Grace is pretty awesome! Class consisted of lectures and reading one book based off the theme of the class (ours was on our trash). Utilized many visuals and always has a PowerPoint for each lecture. Movies and YouTube videos were interesting, even funny (started watching John Oliver after seeing clips in this class). Great prof and great class!
All of the information in the class has been beaten into me time and time again so I would not say I was super into the course, but she puts everything in a easy to swallow way which is good for an intro course.
really interesting class, Dr. Wang is very understanding and cool.
Basically a reading/writing class. Weekly journal entries, 2 papers, and a final paper & group project at the end. If you're not interested in sustainability it'll be boring. But overall, I learned a lot and the work isn't too rigorous. She can grade hard on papers so be careful on that. Recommend if you're looking for a filler class.
This class is literally ran by guest speakers, and you need to be there in order to incorporate their lectures into the weekly journal entries. There's weekly readings as well, 3 papers and a group project. (No final exam) Overall, an easy class to take. Grace is a pretty nice person as well & offers help if you need it in her office hours.
Great Class for anyone interested in the Environment. Doc. Wang is a great teacher and provides students with plenty of tools to succeed in her class, she's a very down-to-earth and caring person in general. Class is pretty moderate on workload and difficulty. Good Class for freshman, would definitely recommend.
Dr. Wang is such a sweet person. You can tell she is very passionate with what she does. The class can get pretty depressing though, because it's basically how the environment is deteriorating at a rapid pace due to American culture. Super easy class, although there are not many assignments. Only two short quizzes and a final.
Dr. Wang is an amazing professor. She cares about her students and is always available to for help or just to talk. Her knowledge of environmental issues and sustainability is profound. She really cares about sustainability and the environment and its inspiring to hear. Her classes interesting and fair. Quiz are usually on Canvas. I recommend her!
I went into the class not expecting to really care or be engaged in the topic, but she did an amazing job of making it feel accessible and engaging. I learned a ton and was really impressed that she was able to keep the lectures interesting for the full hour and 20 minutes
Wang is lovely. Her lectures can be a bit lengthy and reliant on PowerPoint; however, she is knowledgeable and truly passionate about the environment. She is well-respected and brings in a lot of interesting guest speakers.
If you're looking for an easy A- here it is! This class is a lot of watching movies and high-school level lectures. Personally, I felt intellectually unchallenged and was very bored most of the time. Some things are interesting, but I'm upset that I spent so much tuition money on watching a bunch of movies.
This class was very mediocre. Her lectures were rather boring and she had the tendency to fall back on movies/short films to get her point across. The tests often had questions about obscure details that you weren't likely to remember. She wasn't good at answering questions. She did bring in a few guest lecturers who were interesting though.
She was overall not bad. The subject matter and overall organization of the material was weird. Studying to exams was a little hard because of that because it wasn't clear what would be on the quiz's.
This class was fun and an easy A, but you are graded o whether or not you participate while in your groups. Only read the intro of all readings and wrote my reflections based on that, but the guest lectures in class which happen every class period you probably want to be there for so you can write a reflection on it. Need to do all the reflections.
Grace is smart, kind, and a good lecturer. I learned a lot, especially from a lecture class, and hold a lot of respect for Dr. Wang. Fantastic professor
Grace is AWESOME! This was my second class with her and I really hope I get to have another class with her. I would leave class so inspired by her! She's awesome and I highly recommend her!
Grace is your average professor and I liked her for the most part. Her content is great and she knows what shes talking about. She may come off as a little intimidating at first, but shes not at all.
This class is a breeze and as long as you show up every once in a while you're good! Quizzes are typically online and are pretty easy. Beware that the final is in class and notes are not allowed so it's worth going for the last few weeks. Movie days aren't really worth going to except for King Corn. Grace is nice but it's not too tough of a subject
Found the class and subjects engaging. Class is broke into two test and final exam. She can be a thought grader and want a lot of detail for only 20 words. often for dinged for not giving units or small details when not asked for units/certain details yet still passable
A great professor and a great class... Some of the best lectures I have seen here at western, VERY well put together, Quizzes are easy and the topics are interesting and eye-opening. Would absolutely take her class again.
Wang is an awesome Professor! This is my first class with her, and being a 3 credit course its really not hard at all. Your grade sits one 2 super easy opinion papers and weekly, short journal entries (75%) and a solely student designed group project (25%). If you keep up with the readings and show up to class, easy A.
Reading the book and going to class will be really helpful, but all the quizzes (at least this quarter) were online so you could cheese them and just google stuff or refer to the book as needed. Supposed to follow honor code but let's be real, over 80% of students looked something up. Find movie/videos online if you skip class on a movie/video day.
Prof Wang is likable and good in lecture, but the quizzes were not great. She pulled kinda random stuff from readings and films and it didn't feel like we were being tested on main points. Also, tests are timed and online and I felt rushed on several of them. I liked her but the class was a little harder than I expected.
It is obvious that teaching her introductory environmental classes are not a priority to her.
Prof. Wang obviously is really into the subject matter of environmentalism and sustainability but she definitely didn't prioritize 202. You get grades for the first assignment at the end of the quarter, the week before finals. She's really nice but the class is boring, quizzes are kind of a joke, and the class audience is weeby.
At first I thought I would like Grace but toward the end of the quarter it was all just too unorganized for me to have respect for her. She didn't give us the review for the final until the day before as well as switching the format up and not telling us where/when we were taking it until the day before. Tests weren't very hard, first 2 were online.
Absolutely awful. Goes through lectures slides so fast that you never have the chance to write everything down and does not post the lecture slides to canvas. I went to class every day, studied what little notes I could write down, read the book, and still did not do as well as I should have. Super unorganized and unclear class. I regret taking it.
Grace seemed super cool at first and very enthusiastic about teaching the class. Through out the quarter i realized she zooms through all her slides so fast, I wasn't able to copy down much of what was on it. She doesn't post her slides to canvas either. Grades weird and doesn't reply to emails about questions about grading. failing bc of it
I was really excited for this class at the beginning of the quarter but was very let down. Wang teaches common knowledge and doesn't delve into any topics. She's very unorganized and doesn't provide lecture notes/slides on canvas. You're only graded with one paper, two quizzes and then the final so it's an easy A if you understand environmentalism.
She didnt go into as much detail for each subtopic in her lectures as I wouldve liked, but she covered a lot and it was interesting. Yeah, she couldve been more organized and maybe handled the final better, but theres absolutely no reason you should be failing (its so easy) and you dont need pictures of the slides to do well. Take notes
Structure of the class is weirdly set up so that even if you know the material, you won't necessarily get an A. Had to take a 45 minute proctored final (wasn't NEARLY enough time) because people were cheating on the online quizzes (duh?)... Also would't let us take pictures of her slides because they're her "intellectual property" that I pay for?
Loved this class. The zoom layout was perfect and she was engaging. Grace is also an understanding and kind person.
She really values your opinions as a human and student i loved her so much.
I absolutely LOVED her class. I actually took her SMNR 101 course but it wasn't an option. She is a super amazing person and I just loved talking to her. Just know that she does grade on attendance at the end of the quarter, and since there aren't a lot of grades it can really hurt if you don't show up.
Interesting class (I took UEPP 202), I felt that it could've been more organized. Lots of random information that made studying for tests difficult. Overall pretty cool.
The class (UEPP 202) was such a waste of time. It felt like Climate Change 101 and is mostly info you already know if you have been on the internet in the past 10 years. All of her focus was on individual action rather than any systematic change. Most of her content was from 2015 or before and she played way too much John Oliver.
This class was super unorganized and is pretty much completely graded off of 3 tests. The content was really surface-level and didn't feel super useful or interesting. The in-class discussions were fun sometimes but most people taking this class felt stuck up and cringe.
Grace Wang's teaching shows she truly cares about sustainability and is an inspiring person to be taught by. Class discussions are rare but when they happen, Grace is eager to hear about each person's perspective on a subject. I would recommend taking a class with her!
Grace is a very kind and understanding professor, but she is also pretty unorganized. It took about 2-3 weeks for her to get Canvas and the syllabus up, and her criteria was very unclear. I feel like the class could often be pretty interesting, but it was mostly surface level stuff. Pretty easy A, but I would probably not take this class again.
Her class was mainly powerpoint slides and documentaries in class. The assignments included one short paper, two tests, discussion posts about the book we read, and a few in class participation points. The content of the class was pretty surface level and we didn't dive very deep which was disappointing. She seemed disorganized but it was an easy A
Grace is my favorite professor at Western. She's truly fantastic. Lots of experience in her field and very knowledgeable, but also very personable and kind. Highly recommend her to anyone.
Very kind professor! This class felt more like a 100-level class introducing most fundamental environmental topics but was still interesting nonetheless. Graded by a paper alongside an in-class midterm/final. Mostly lectures with some group discussions and movies. I look forward to taking a more specific higher-level class with her!
Professor Wang's class covers a lot of ground, but the lectures can feel rushed. The assignments and quizzes are a mixed bag - some are easy, others feel a bit random. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for reviewing key concepts.
Grace is so kind and an exceptional professor.
