very passionate about his studies. explains throughly. wants students to understand and do well.
I liked his personality and thought he was a good prof. He is very helpful and encourages class participation. A lot of information is packed into his lectures, which I found to be interesting and insightful. A stimulating and thought-provoking class overall.
Prof. Cassano is a great professor and really wants his students to succeed. Explains info clearly and thoroughly and is very straight forward about what will be on quizzes and tests. Very willing to help you improve your grade. Just a note that he runs his SOC 100 class like an economics soc. class since thats what he studies.
I really liked this professor. He was really enthusiastic about this line of study and explained things in detail so everyone could understand. He's very passionate about sociology and knows what he's talking about. In this class he did teach it higher than a 100 level, but tests and quizzes are simple. Just go to class and you'll do fine.
he's a good professor for the most part. the material is kinda difficult, but he explains it well. you will have to buy alot of text books for this class. most of the time I didn't read them, but I needed them to write the papers. If you show up to class and pay attention though you're pretty much guaranteed a good grade.
Great teacher. Only one that I have every wanted to take again. He is very enthusiastic and loves discussing sociology and discussing your ideas. You can approach him with any question and he does not make you out to feel stupid for asking questions. Strongly recommend this 100 level course to any student for their pre-requisite
Very Intelligent, overall great professor. Really wants everyone to participate, and always welcomes questions. Tests are fair, and he actually cares about his students, and how they do in his class. This class was pretty tough, but was interesting. Be sure to keep up on the readings!
I've had Dr. Cassano for two classes and he is by far...MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR EVER!!! He is so passionate about his work and he really knows what he's talking about. He also really wants his students to understand, learn and do well. He's sooo helpful. It was also cool to have a male teach a womens studies class, it made perspective that much bette
Best professor I have ever encountered! He teaches his classes at an appropriate level even though he clearly is much smarter than everyone else in the room. He tests are remarkably easy. He only stresses major points and doesn't throw masses of information at students. He is beyond helpful, truly exceptional.
My second class with this prof. he is by far one of the best on campus! Even if your not a SOC major you should take a class with him! Cassano makes you think about your role in society and take a new look on everything! GREAT GREAT prof!!!
He used the five different books alot in his lectures. It is important to come to class the information from reading and what he had said to highlight and write down will be in the quizzes and exams.
Literally the easiest class ever. If you go to class and take notes on the points he stresses (over and OVER), you WILL get over a 3.5. 4 quizzes, 2 short papers, and the easiest final. If he got any clearer he'd disappear. He encourages class participation/questions to the point where it feels like begging... but I did learn a good amount.
Special Topics class, Sociology of Knowledge. This class was definitely challenging, especially the readings. I felt fortunate to have Dr. Cassano as an instructor since he always clearly conveys important information and makes sure all the students understand. Any class he teaches is guaranteed to worth your while.
best prof at OU. Go to class pay attention and you'll be fine.
Best professor at OU. Pay attention in class, you'll do fine.
Good professor. Clear lectures. Reading interesting.
This is a hard course. The readings were hard. The papers were hard. The lectures were clear, I guess. But don't take this course.
prof spent too much time talking about movies watched stupid old movies about stupid stuff hate black and white
Dont take your brain to class. If you do, the professor literally removes it during the lecture. He keeps a big vat at the front of the room full of human brains. After class, he gives them back. But I'm pretty sure I didn't get the brain I originally had.
1 of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures/discussions are extremely thought-provoking. I am not a SOC major, but was able to glean more out of his class than my other classes combined that year. He is incredibly articulate and passionate about what he teaches. The tests and papers are easy, all you have to do is show up and listen.
One of the best professors at OU. Very passionate and interested in the material he is teaching. He wants to see the students succeed and is always available outside of class time. You will have to work hard in any of his classes, but you will learn a lot. Definitely recommend Prof Cassano.
i never write reviews for profs ever. but cassano is my favorite and perhaps the best that i actually had at oakland. he encourages you to engage in discussion in class and he is very easy to talk to. 10/10

Cassano's a great teacher and very passionate about what he teaches. Actually wants you to learn and understand the content. There is quite a bit of reading in this class, but he explains it throughouly. Uses movies in class as well. Will be taking another class with him.
Professor Cassano is the best instructor I have had at OU. Very passionate about what he is teaching and really knows how to grasp your attention. For sure take him :)
Cassano is a very passionate professor. He loves to teach and he loves his subject. If you care about learning at all he will win you over. He does not care how smart you are as long as you try. He is a great guy and an excellent teacher, take him!
Do not believe any of the comments you read below this! I rated Cassano before I took him thinking it was going to be a great class, but it's horrible! He talks in circles, constantly repeats himself. His 2 hour class feels like 5...he's a hard grader. No tests just quizzes, so if you do bad on those you're screwed! Do not take him!!!
Prof. Cassano is a great teacher! He knows what he's talking about and makes sure his students do as well. He has a quiz almost every week, but they are only about 10 Qs and are straight from the lectures. He makes it interesting ad fun! I would deff take him again!
He's really passionate about sociology which I found made the class very boring. The entire class was lectures, however his 10 point quizzes are very easy. It isn't a bad class, I guess I just expected it to be more interesting.
Prof. Cassano is a great teacher. He is very helpful. We had four quizzes and two papers. He offers a loooot of help. He is amazing teacher. He helps students understand. He always told us his intersting stories. He is not boring at all. Very active :) all you have to do is attend the class take notes and pay attention to what he points.
Juts take him he is the best soc PROFESSOR as far as I know. Am a SOC major :)
Professor is genuinely interested in the subject. If you want to make it challenging on yourself, you can, but I didn't need to thoroughly read the texts to pass. Just show up and pay attention to the lectures and take notes. He jumps around a lot and so sometimes the lectures can be confusing. There are discussions after class for extra credit.
I took soc 400 over the summer, and for the most part I enjoyed it. There is a paper, a revision to the paper(make sure you present a text based argument), a group presentation, and a final exam. Overall professor Cassano is so nice, very helpful, but make sure you work hard/participate, and show up to class and you'll do fine!
Absolutely amazing professor! His teaching style is very helpful and engaging. He genuinely loves what he teaches. MUST read the material AND attend class. Very writing intensive. It seems daunting but he is there every step of the way, if you want to do well and you put in the effort, you will. Will definitely take him again!
I took many classes from this prof, I even student taught with him. He is so intelligent and passionate. He is tough if you don't like to go to class or read. If you want quality education hes your man, after all we pay for this right! The best professor I have ever had!
I had taken a class with Professor Cassano before and loved it-so knew going into this class was going to have the same experience. He makes subjects that would ordinarily be boring come to life, he is so nice, helpful, smart, and you really feel like you learn a lot. Take any class with him-you won't regret.
Wish I had gone to class more, that was my fault. He's super nice, easy EC opportunities, really nice.
Cassano is such a wonderful Prof! Clear, funny, and helpful. As long as you reads your materials and take notes you will do fine. Participate and you will enjoy his courses even more. I had him 4 times and then became his teaching assistant. If you are interested in Soc at all He is the man to learn it from!
Amazing teacher, class is flexible and he works with you, also his intelligence makes him ridiculously hot!
Really knows what e is talking about and you can tell he is passionate about what he is doing. Really makes the topi interesting and easy to understand. He doesn't use a Sociology text book, but instead a few actual books that you can get from Neebo.
He is a difficult grader, but passionate about the material and gives incredibly interesting lectures. If you like a challenge he's the professor for you. He's not always perfectly clear about his expectations, but if you ask direct questions and go to his office hours his papers are not too bad. I highly recommend him.
This class was super easy because he is so repetitive, if you go to class and take notes, its an easy A. Make sure you make notes of the passages he reads in class because you will need them for your paper which he grades hard. If you meet with him before the paper is due and have him read it, you will be pretty much garaunteed an A.
Dr. Cassano is an excellent speaker and is very willing to help a student understand! The class was more interesting that I expected and I enjoyed it!
Where do I begin... Cassano is the most amazing professor at OU I really would recommend him to anyone SOC major or not... He is very clear in what he expects from them students in the class, and also very clear in his lectures. He also is very passionate about what he teaches and that makes it a lot easier to grasp the information! He is seriously just amazing, and I really recommend him to anyone... And not to mention he's so so so sexy!!!
I loved this class! It was very engaging and he knows his stuff! You have to read all of the required texts-he does in depth lectures on the assigned books. Make sure you take notes, his quizzes are based off of what he says in class! He has one paper, which is a little difficult-but doable.(The SI is extra credit-and is helpful!)
BORING. Very nice guy, but not very interesting. Tries hard to make everyone successful and cares about the students. I would probably recommend him for this course, it's just the material that is boring.
Literally the best Professor I've ever had. He maps out his lectures in the most comprehensible way imaginable. I was excited to attend his class (which has never happened in my academic career before) and he is really actually passionate about his subject. You just have to pay attention and you'll ace the class.
Great professor. Had a big class but was still interested in how you did. One small paper and like 5 quizzes. Go to the extra credit opportunities, they're really worth the extra point. Passionate about the subject and understanding.
I found this class interesting. Cassano's lectures could have been a lot worse and he was a decent guy. Even still, he's pretty intolerant of opposing viewpoints in his grading (beware). As far as the class goes- just show up and you will do great. He gives out all the answers. Don't bother reading! He also gives out 10% EC. I'd recommend him!
I really liked Cassano. He cared about his students and he tries to help the best he can. He helps you understand what you are trying to say. A lot of reading but worth it. Would take again
Cassano is a fantastic professor. This class is pretty easy because he keeps you engaged and is genuinely interested in what you have to say. I would take him again. He opened my eyes to the world of sociology.
Cassano is quite possibly the best professor at OU. Incorporates stories from his life to the course, makes the material very relatable. Doesnt use actual text books, uses novels but reading the is essential for the final and final paper. Would take any class if he was the instructor. Highly recommend.
Doesn't use actual text books, uses novels but reading the is essential for the final and final paper. Would take any class if he was the instructor. He engages students by telling personal stories & asking for students' personal experience related to whatever topic we may be discussing. Genuinely wants the best for his students. Highly recommend!
He was my favorite professor at OU. If you're serious about college you will learn a lot from his classes. He can be a tough grader, but in the end it helps you improve. If you show your interest he will go above and beyond to help you.
Professor Cassano is an amazing professor. Be prepared to read all of the material he requests. The books he requires are somewhat difficult but he definitely explains them all in class so attending class is a must. He makes it very clear that he is there to help us succeed.
He is a wonderful professor who keeps your interest during his lectures. Definitely not monotone. Hes quite funny and conveys the material nicely. The quizzes are only 10 questions and they are very simple if you go over the key terms sheet. Super easy fun class. A good gen ed. I didnt purchase all of the books and i did just fine.
Great professor! Keeps class lively and interesting. Tons of extra credit opportunities and fun to just talk to.
professor Cassano is a unique character. he lectures without any PowerPoints and assigns a lot of readings but as long as you come to his lectures you wont need to read really. we took 4 quizzes instead of a midterm and 1 comprehensive final, also one short paper. hes easy going and his lectures were eye opening, it was very interesting. take him!
He is AMAZING.
Taking a class with Prof. Cassano was the worst decision I have ever made at Oakland. He is incredibly rude, and often shouts people down. He has no respect for the students, and makes it clear that he is disinterested in your education. HE IS LAZY! He has no ambition to go the extra mile when you need additional help. Avoid him at all costs.
Im currently in Cassanos class and have nothing but good things to say about it. Everything that is expected in class is very clear. The lectures are incredibly inclusive and you can tell that he cares about his work. 12/10 would take again. Coming to class isn't required but it its very beneficial.
Professor Cassano is the best! He always is available to help if you need it and lenient. His lectures are pretty interesting, and he always relates the topics to things that are easier to understand. Quizzes are easy. He claims you need "all the books to succeed" but you literally only need 2 books to write the paper (The Second Shift&Asylums)
I took Racial and Ethnic Relations with Dr. Cassino and Dr. Carroll and it was an intriguing class. Cassano has vast knowledge in historic sociology material, which he mixes with his own personal stories for great lectures. The group project was challenging but not difficult, but he is easily approachable for any questions.
Hes very passionate about what he teaches. The class started out slow and boring but I enjoyed the course more as time went on. He offered extra credit review sessions with TAs and I easily got 100% in the class because of those. Quizzes are easy if you go to class and pay attention
There was so much reading involved in this class (a lot of times with short time frames), however this professor was amazing during his lectures and was always accessible outside of class or by email to ask questions and get help.
Professor Cassano is really wonderful. I have taken classes with him a few times. He is very kind and understanding. He is also interesting to listen to. I dislike that he reads our books to us like we are in 5th grade. I wish he would use PowerPoint to help with note taking. He also believes that you cannot pass if you miss a few classes. Not true
Very good sense of humor, very passionate, and a very good instructor of sociology. Has tough assignments but they really helped me learn the material well. Lots of notes but very interesting material and an interesting guy!
Prof. Cassano was a great teacher. He really cares about making sure his students succeed. There was not a lot of homework, but there was a lot of reading. Being in class is very important because a lot of information needed for the quizzes and final are in his lectures. He listens and always tries to help his students understand.
Must get the books b/c his lectures are based off them. There are a few assignments, but his expectations are clear so you'll know what to do to get an A. His lectures are amazing. You will want to go to them (attendance is a grade). He is a super nice guy. You won't regret taking his course.
He is an amazing professor, I didn't read one time and still got a 3.8. you need to go to class bc every day he does a review for his quizzes. he makes everyone laugh, you feel very comfortable, and professor Cassano was such an amazing professor that I took sociology as a minor. I TOOK THIS CLASS FOR A GEN ED, best idea ever, (no homework)
Professor Cassano is amazing! He's funny and makes the class interesting. Do the reading and pay attention to the lectures and you'll do great. You dont have to go to class but you should. I highly recommend taking this class with him. Overall the best teacher I have had at Oakland, I plan to take him again in some of my remaining courses.
Professor Cassano explained his concepts perfectly. He was a passionate teacher that truly cares whether or not you understand. He reviews every day in class and always leaves room for questions. His lectures were interesting and there was never a boring moment. Easy to follow and the books were also interesting.
He's a cool guy. He has tattoos and is super down to earth. His class is super easy, he gives you a key-term/information sheet that is the same as the quizzes. Lectures can be long but overall really interesting. Definitely recommend him.
Must purchase books, assignments and quizzes are based off of them. Reading is assigned for every class and highly recommended to follow along. Lectures are long and he repeats himself a lot, stops for questions which is nice. Extra credit was offered a lot, take advantage!
He really cares about the well being of students. Will help if needed. He offered to give me further help with my writing skills throughout the summer. Definitely a great person and professor. He is a tough grader but it only helps.
About six weeks in and realizing more and more that his teaching method isn't typical. Had to buy seven books and only read about 100 pages from each. He then ties his point of view to the situation and makes it seem like what we're learning is sociology and not history. Not a fan!
Professor Cassano is great! I would definitely recommend taking his class. He really cares about his students and wants us all to succeed. He offers lots of help and answers questions very quickly. I'm really glad I have him for this class.
Took as an online class and loved him. An amazing professor who cares about his students and their success. I would recommend him to any student at OU. Amazing lectures, awesome feedback, exams that match the material being learned! Pay attention and you will do a great job.
Lecture-based class! Most assignments and quizzes are based on the readings and need to be written and include quotes. Take notes on his quotations during lectures and what he has to say about them. Will help TREMENDOUSLY with assignments and quizzes. Very knowledgeable and answers emails quickly, understanding!!
I first had Professor Cassano for my capstone. Second, I had the honor of teaching with him as a T.A. for Intro to Soc. Professor Cassano is not only attentive, but he also may be the most knowledgeable professor at OU (perhaps I am biased). His brilliance has radically altered the ways I look at the world. He is a "must-take" in every sense.
Best professor here at OU. Genuinely cares about sociology and provides engaging readings that is gone over in class in great detail. His lectures are not boring and quite engaging and he is easy to talk to. One of my top 5 professors in my 4 years of learning.
Excellent and engaging lectures. Makes sure you understand any materiel gone over. Easy homework assignments
Professor Cassano is a gem to the Sociology department and the entire University.
It may be rough at first, but don't worry. Just pay attention to his lectures, and you'll start to understand. Do read the books though, at least a glance through, because that's the important thing. He's an easy grader overall, but don't slack off! The final paper may seem lengthy, but if you know your material, it's easy.
LOTS of reading but gives interesting lectures. Haven't finished the semester yet. Take him if you're really into sociology otherwise take someone else for this class
He is very nice but you should only take this class if you are interested with reading books that make no sense. He doesn't explain enough how to understand the books it is like you are reading gibberish. Kind of a tough grader.
Just as with many other reviews he is a nice professor, but his way of teaching can be confusing, as well as the books we read. Take him for lower class courses instead, since other reviews showed he's good.
