He's a good teacher! easy midterms but hard final exam!!

He tries so hard...and is a nice guy...however you will most likely be completely lost and will fail...i did a C- and then repeated the next semester (and did NOTHING) and got A. He is very unclear.
Nice guy and he helps, but his tests suck and are tough as hell.
Very good at teaching. One of the best Math teacher I have had. However, his tests are really hard. You have to really study to do well in his exams.
Although a very brilliant mathematician, a very difficult and fast paced instructor. Course requires you to purchase his own personal self-written textbook, which is not up to par with other pre-calculas textbooks on the market.

Brilliant Math Teacher. No homeworks, no assignments, just 3 midterms + a final. He explains and teaches the materials well. However, to do well in his class, you have to really study. His tests are harder than his notes & questions in the back.
omg BORING!!!!!!! like extremely boring, if u've done math 12 than u'll do ok by teaching urself, but otherwise he's not that great. hes ok, but nuthing great
Very approachable guy. Amazing teacher. Works hard to help students. Cares about his students. You have to work hard to pass, mostly because there are no assignments, just 3 mids and a final. Would recommend!
GOOD PROF. If u want a good mark take him. Just do 2 things. #1 All the problems in his textbook (which he sells to u for $30), # 2 ASK him what u dont understand. His tests r exactly like his practice questions, (tends to use them a lot).
hes hard, his note package is good and cheap, lots of people dropped. hes tries to be funny, and skips steps when doing examples. he wears a lab coat sometimes, and it has a pie on one pocket and a square root sign on the other.
Brilliant man. Excellent teacher, kinda reminds me of Woody Allen! not quite as funny, but it's funny how HE thinks it's funny! Hard class, you gotta really pay attention, but he does care if you get a good mark, he wants to help.
EVIL!!!! This guy is the worst instructor I've ever had! He won't explain anything, and his course set-up is created to make students fail. Don't ever get a class with this guy if you like getting a passing grade!

Hes Crazy..Jumps all over the place and laughs at himself..He cant teach and if he learned how 2 stay in one place then he would be better..Hard 2 understand and isnt helpful..Advise you 2 take another teacher

The guy is way smart...almost too smart sometimes. He explains good but you have to work your butt off! 3 tests/semester,no midterm, only on 30 marks each, so either you get it right or wrong and they are VERY HARD! Not brilliant in math, don't take him.
WORST TEACHER EVER!! If you ask a question he'll talk about everything else but the answer to your question. Take any other teacher. This guy knows his stuff big time but is just a bad teacher. His test are out of 25 too. Right or wrong basically.
Hen is the worst teacher ever. NO NOT TAKE HIM. His note are okay, he makes no sence, and if you ask him a question then he will never stop talking, and you might not even get your answer. His tests are very hard.

he is a very nice guy but he confuses you in trying to make things understandable...adds unneccessary details. But it is possible to do well, marks for homework completion-12%! But his tests are difficult and should be out of more.

IF you want to fail take him. Started with 25 students by beggining of 1st month 5 seats were filled. Only 4 took the final. If u r from china and have already taked 3rd year calc there and got and A. Then you might pass his 1st year calc here enuff said.

Don't take this prof. He is not willing to help any students who need help. If you ask a question he gets fed up. Midterms and tests are so hardd, have nothing to do with the notes. Stay away from this one
Oh my god, nice guy, but we dont go to school to be taught by nice teachers, exams are BRUTAL, lectures are boring, and overall, u get screwed. I failed this class twice, and i never fail anything.

Failed his class. Got an A with a different prof. Totally useless as an instuctor. Most of the material on the tests was not taught well in class.
well he knows his stuff for sure and tries real hard to teach it. but it isnt always the most interesting and when you ask a question he is very willing to answer it but he drags on and on about the answer so ask sparingly. is very willing to take w/e approach you need though he seems to be a very diffucult maker but i will have to see come midterm

explains everything really well but its almost as if he wishes you to burn in hell when it comes to midterms. he puts the hardest possible questions on tests that he never even taught to ensure no one gets an A. he wastes a lot of time repeating about irrelavant stuff like how you should study, that sometimes you just want to tell him to shut up.
I just started the year with him, and from reading all of his reviews on this site, I'm very scared.... But does that man love his coffee, and does it ever show, lol he jumps around a question for half an hour, and then makes a joke, and all you can hear is his quirky little laugh. Truly one of the most amusing teachers I've ever had
well,i remember how i was so scared before taking this class since its my first univ.-math course.But,now i can tell it wasn't that bad...even actually really good..His lecture is JUST SO CLEAR,he's willing to help students! just don't miss the classes & try to keep up h.w! then u'r gonna finish that scary math course with great confidence!:)

he's the most disappointing teacher ever! what he puts on the exam is 100x harder than what he taught in class. it's like wat this other person said: he wishes that you burn in hell when it comes to his exams. OMG i got so much negatives to say...JUST DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Graham Rankin is an excellent professor. Sure, he's quarky, loves his coffee, but don't we all. His exams are a bit more difficult than the matter in the "textbook" but you kind of have to expect that. If you review the material, and make sure you understand, not just memorize it, you'll be fine!
you want to fail the course ... go rigth ahead and take him as your instructor.

I really liked Graham. He is very clear in his lectures, and is willing to help if you need it. Recommend him if you have trouble with Math. Great teacher.

a FUNNY guy! gives fake laughs which are very funny. Most of the stuff on exam is from notes, except for a few questions.Strict marker.
I would have to say that he is extremely scattered. But if you pay attention and follow along in his text book you should have no problem understanding whats going on. Examples and problems are very well layed out for you to go back and figure out on your own if struggling. Hes not very personable or approachable though.

RANDOM, yes he is, but he is a good teacher. He is willing to help but it may not be the BEST explantion. Notes are very strait foreward. Not a hard marker, very fair marker actually. Teaching style is very scattered so just laugh aloong n keep asking the question. Good teacher overall :)
Good teacher, Random indeed. Notes are very easy to follow along with. Interesting course none the less. Takes a while to understand his teaching. Dont really have to go to class but definetly does help. LOVES COFFEE LOL uhmm overall good teacher and knows a lot about the subject. its hard to ask him things but its worth asking always.

AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. I've completed 25 uni courses and he is by far the worst prof I've had. More than half the class had dropped the course by the final withdrawal date. And those that stayed, very few even passed. He never answers the questions asked, but will ansewer as if the student asked a totally diff question. A. Nishihara was way better

Just do all his assigned problems and you'll do fine. Notice the people complaining are all from dummy math courses. Tests are no harder or easier than other profs. He even tells you what problems to expect in detail. His notes make good use of color and take care to explain tricky points. If you're in science or engineering, no problemo.
I got an A in Pre-Calculus and failed his class. This is when you know something is wrong and you should stay away.
this prof dont have any idea how to teach the class.. what he teaches in class he put the opposite in exams. Like he put the graph from integral calculus in differential calculus like really Rankin?..anyways the point is, take his if u wanna fail the course..I got an A in physics & chemistry and Failed his class..now go figure...
100x harder exams than his notes/examples. kool it down rankin, we are not PH.d Candidates. His exams are nothing like what he teaches in class. Tells the class that if you finish exam in 30 mins he will give u bonus marks, really rankin? we are here to learn and paid for it, not in some kind of friggin math contest. Avoid this teacher, especially if you didn't take calculus before. He does very little teaching, simply repeating what he has written in his notes. Always trying to crack jokes, even about exams. As for his exams, they are extremely brutal. The practice questions are easy, but the questions on his exams push it to a whole other level.
Doesn't promote office hours like other profs at this institution and not very approachable. Nice guy, but as a prof... not so much.
I would not prefer this professor to anybody willing to get high grades in this class. He marks really hard, If you want to fail this class then go ahead take him.
He is a good teacher, but he expects too much from business students. we aren't Engineering students Graham. His notes are good, and he's a good teacher in terms of teaching the material,but his tests are honestly impossible for the average business student.
I am a business student and have taken 3 calc classes before his. when he was going over material that i already knew he confused me and was very unclear with his steps in finding the solution. homework is optional so if you are not self motivated to do it on your own, you wont do great. very nice guy with corny jokes but not a great prof.
I had taken calculus before in high school but found it hard to follow along. I felt bad for the students who hadn't taken calculus before since he offered little as to how to do the math. When asked questions, he gives vague and not helpful explanations as he would prefer to "get on with the class." Not mean, really nice, but DO NOT TAKE
His tests are extremely difficult and at times feels heartless to those struggling in the course. I've taken a calc course before but this professor will hardly give you marks for correct work and a wrong answer.
Discourages questions and is a flat out bad teacher. Doesn't have office hours and exams are much more difficult than the questions he assigns. DON'T TAKE this prof if have not taken Calculus before... actually don't take him if you have either.
This professor is the worst I've ever had. I went into his differential calc class with some previous knowledge of the course material having taken it in high school, but his lectures just confused me. His tests were hard compared to the work in his textbook. Avoid taking a class with this prof at all costs.
Goes off on tangents and doesn't give much explanation. Just goes over written notes with not much extra information. Tests are very difficult, and he is not a generous marker. Expects us to all be engineering students. I'm lucky I passed the course in the end, even after doing all the practice problems and getting extra help. I would avoid him.
He might be tough, but to me, he's a real jewel of a teacher. He's kind, caring, and HILARIOUS! ;)

Get real! You want to learn!... there are many tough problems to solve with solutions in the 'notes' provided... by Rankin (many are on tests). Study and you're good! Not using a cell phone/laptop in class should be obvious... duh!
Funny guy. Love to attend his lectures but sometimes the subject material is boring. Tests are not that difficult and even he decreases the maximum marks according to the class average marks.

He makes the course tough by having similar type of questions from different in exam which he doesn't even explains in class. He have his own text book in which he has 2 to 3 question each chapter. He doesn't meet in office and don't respond to emails. Overall, he shouldn't be teaching any course becoz my whole class got failed except one with D.
My worst prof yet! Calc 1 isn't that hard. I learned fundamental concepts quicker in Calc 2 that I missed. He gave me a 0 for what should have been a 2/3 - not uncommon with him. He's a very eccentric person without much good humour. Friends who skipped class, were late to anything, etc. received no grace. And its supposed to be a 1st year course!

Awful professor. Doesn't explain how he solves questions, just stands at the front and rambles through examples all class, usually making mistakes. Belittles his students for asking questions in class and never answers them. Tests are awful and class grade is derived only from 4 exams. Practice questions in his "text" are irrelevant on exams.
The professor was confusing when he lectured and no help when going to see him in his office hours. There is no real homework and the entire grade is based on tests. When going to office hours to discuss a test, the professor handed me the answers then went and sat at his desk. Absolutely the worst professor you could take.
He is a very tough professor but anyone worth anything has to learn how to deal with strict professors who actually expect something from students. I took his stats 1 class and it was difficult. I put time and effort into the class and ended up with an A. Lots of classmates were upset though. His tests are hard but if you appreciate stats also fun!
Graham is so unclear. I had taken this class before and I did WORSE than the first time I took it. He doesn't have a moodle, he has very few questions to work from in the notes, and he picks on you in front of the class. I felt like I understood what was happening in class but he wants such specific examples it almost impossible to pass.
He is really funny and easy to understand. I recommend to take him.
