Grants exams are based off of his notes, so take good notes!!
He makes this class bearable

loved this class. gotta appreciate his sarcasm/jokes.
Guarantee to laugh once during his class. Memorize his notes to do well.
Looks like Chandler!
makes concepts very clear and easy to understand
Overall, better make its point across then the author of the book haha
Nice and cute!

Best professor ever! Interesting, extremely intelligent and sexy!!!
Great prof. Make sure he's teaching 303 or DONT take it. The book's author sucks
Sigh....soooooooo good!
Challenging and insightful
Don't read the text book. In fact, don't even buy it.

The funniest/enjoyable class ever
His MCs are ridiculously ambiguous, vague, regurgitative...

Lectures are a nice break from other classes-MC are very vague-Brutal textbook

A VERY GOOD TEACHER~ his classes are fun and enjoyable!!!~~

This is a very important class, but it seems more like a crash course than a full semester due to the amount of work/learning required. Pickiest teacher ever!!

The prof is nice...but this course is very hard.
Textbook is not useful. Prof is quite vague. He likes to hide concepts with colorful language.
Grant is awesome... take good notes and you'll do fine
do not buy the text. interesting prof, but very picky marking. hard to get high mark.
Gives me the creeps. Reminds me of a slick used-car salesman.
Be careful with the wording on essay questions in exams. One mistakes and it's 5% gone from your final percentage.
bad prof. His assignments are unhelpful, absolutist and picky. You must think like him or you get a 0. his final exam is a killer with multiple choice being the worst. don't be misled by his in-class humour.
I took 403 w/ Grant and it was one of the best classes I've ever taken. He's a great teacher too - knows his stuff and challenges you. Ensure you do your readings before lectures since you'll get so much more out of the materials by doing so.
Don't buy text, it was useless. Exams/cases are based solely on lecture so don't miss them. For cases/short answer: If your answer/interpretation is not the same as his, u get deducted severely.
Teach in a very straight forward way. His lecture notes help a lot.
One of the best profs at sfu. Good sense of humour and fun lectures. No need to buy the text.
Interesting and informative lectures. M/C in final exam are unreasonablely confusing==> still wondering how do one prepare for those kind of questions.
He's not very helpful in office hours. He likes saying "you tell me", or "it's in the textbook". Becareful when answering essay questions in your exam. Screw up one of them, you lose 10%. By the way you need 60% to pass the course.
One of the best Profs at SFU. Wonderful sense of humor. Loved the class and learned a great deal. His Exams are a bit tricky so i suggest you study his notes like the back of your hand. Assignments were pretty straight forward.
He's kind of weird, reminds me of a talk show host, but overally nice guy. Don't buy the book, even though he tells you to do so. Exam multiple choice questions are hard, since there are more than one correct answer and you have to pick the most correct.
good sense of humour. knowledgaable and experienced. stick to his notes, dump the textbook. M/C are tricky with unusual vocabs in the questions. notes from lecture is very important.
Interesting lectures, and a nice guy. But his exams don't make any sense. You are not allow to have an opinion in this class which makes this course pointless.
Biggest @#$#$%# I've ever come across at the university; don't bother with office hrs, won't help worth a damn. Very machiavellian, I know, it's ironic for someone teaching ethics.:(
Funny + smart prof; he has great stories about cheaters who later complain publicly...
Marking scheme is totally random, its all or nothing. Likes very simplistic answers, don't bother trying to apply the actual material to the cases or you will get 0. Final was hard!
Pretty nice guy and his lectures are interesting. The MC exams are really tough. The text is worthless. The cases are either right or wrong, no in between.
very interesting. This man knows his stuff and it is great to see an insightful/critical mind such as his in the business faculty
Ethical to make money with an ethics course? Skip this guy. Eventhough the notes make sense, his exams aren't fair and they are quite misguiding.
Great lecturer (one of best in SFU), makes 3 hr lectures interesting and amusing. Cases are tricky b/c the answers are rather subjective, u either get it or u don't. MT and Final are relatively easy as long as you understand his notes VERY well. DON'T buy the text - just take detailed lecture notes.
This XXXX guy is the worst prof ever! He super subjective! He never listen to student. You are going to get 0 if you write stuffs from the text book! He always say "I DON'T MAKE ANY ASSPUMTION!" while he assume students understand what he wants. Plus, you have to define every single word.
So good, so nice. One of the best public speakers I've ever seen. He has a good sense of humour too.
Good public speaker, exams are tricky
Repeats the same examples over and over again in every single lecture. Every lecture you will hear him talk about Body Shop, Nike, Phillip Morris, leaky condos, and that mushroom thing. Try to have a look at him even if you're not in his class, 'cause it's hard to find a living Machiavellian (teaching an ethics course!) nowadays.
he's a great prof! he's really nice to his students and is fair in marking. He really knows his stuff and his classes are very humurous! never bored in this 3 hr lecture!! glad he's teaching at SFU! just make sure u take good notes in class and think how the topics relate to each other! o yea...he looks like a cartoon but in a good way tho!!
Clear, interesting, sometimes funny.
this class is a cinch. take GOOD notes and you'll be fine. don't buy the text, you wont need it
Three tips: (1)don't buy the txtbook, (2)take super detailed notes (don't have to go to lectures but listen to online lectures as many times as necessary), (3)try to link topics that don't seem to link intuitively (e.g. dirty hands to environment ethics). He is a very good and humourous lecturer but his exams Q's can be very counter-intuitive.
lecture note is not helpful if you dont understand it. exams were hard...
Excellent prof! Lectures are fun and interesting. Fair grading system. Take him!
He is such a good prof! just go to the lecture and study the lecture tape when there is an exam, then you will do fine. I strongly recommend that you take him!!!
Intelligent fellow, but at times a pompous ass. Lectures are decent and exams are hard - he belongs in the old boys club
No Comments
He is very ambiguous in his interpretations. Poor hand outs!!!
lectures are interesting. But the tests are really tricky. You have to know the material front to back. But master the sample final and you'll do well on the tests.
Repetitive, boring lectures; Multiple Choice questions that are ambiguous and not based on text or lecture. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. I'm not even certain the useless material teaches any ethics at all. In short, it should not be a required course, if taught at all.
This course is a trap. Both Textbooks are waste of time and money. You have to write down every single word he says in class cause it is probably a MCQ on MT/Final. He is very intelligent though. This course needs a major makeover.
He did a great job! I really loved the course and would love to have him as an instructor again. I got an A in the class and all I did was listening to the digital tapes. Listen to them 1-2 times and take detailed notes then you'll do well on exams.

A hard prof, uses the same joke for every single class, the markings are unfair specially for the cases. The worst teacher ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if u want to fail, go ahead to take his class. the worst prof i ever met
Go to his lectures and understand the concepts inside and out and you'll do really well in the course. He explains things better than the textbook. The M/C for the exams were a little tricky though.
worst prof ever.
Good prof. Cases are tough but exams are fair. You must attend his lectures and listen to his recorded lecture. Don't buy the books. Useless. He really promotes thinking.
I enjoyed this class. He is a good lecturer.
Tricky class. Like everyone else says, don't waste money on the book. It is key to attend all the lectures, then listen to them again online. He's fair, but you're going to have to work hard. Take advantage of the fudge factor for participating. It helped me.
the best prof i ever had! he is very clear about his lecture. but you have to study hard for it in order to get a B or A.. read his notes do his sample midterm. it is very useful!
Class was VERY interesting. And Havers lecturing style was also great. BUT TERRIBLE prof- he marks like a robot. Gives extremely subjective questions but will only accept set answers. In addition he stopped recording lectures becasue "people stopped showing up" but this was absolutley not ture, there is a full class every week. terrible prof.
Wicked prof, he enjoys talking abuot stuff and you don't fall asleep in his class! However, his exams are tricky if you haven't studied his notes inside and out. FOCUS ON HIS NOTES, ignore the textbook you don't need it, just ask him to clarify if you need help! Make sure you listen to his lectures or record them, and you will do well in this cours
well he tries to fail students during the finals.. i was getting B+ and A before finals, then during the finals, he tested stuff that he even didn't mention or appeared in the text books at all. clearly he wants to fail most students who doesn't attend to class or even the students who go to class EVERY TIME
Im confused, why did we buy the textbook? It becomes apparent during lectures that he himself hasn't read it. If you look at the page references he gives during lectures and then what he explains the concepts as, sometimes they are completely different. If he finds your writing to be the least bit vague he will take marks off, because he can't b
Generally an interesting prof and very good course content for future business people. Good language skills are very important for this class, though. The readings use high-level language, and the exam expects you to be able to interpret abstract questions. Lastly - you might find him offensive if you are a conservative or republican.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. The exams were unfair and his stubborn elitist nature was impossible to deal with. Thank goodness they've finally added other professors to teach this course. It wasn't even about "ethics in business", more of a philosophy course. Avoid Havers at all cost. You're welcome.

Havers is the most entertaining and interesting prof I have ever had at SFU. Exams are hard but worth the trade off of actually learning about the theoretical paradigms of business. Far more interesting than memorizing meaningless definitions and figures like other bus courses. He also has a wicked sense of humor!
You have no choice, I guess. It seems like he's the only one teaching this course. This is useless, at least i think, and boring class. He keeps talking in the class, so you gotta write down what's out of his mouth. each and every word! class average was so high, so you gotta do really hard. He's a good prof, but I think the class sucks.
worst prof ever! the exams and assignments were unfair. we dont get part marks even with explanations. we have to get the answer write then he marks on explanations. the scoring system intentionally makes students' marks lower. he doesnt tape the lectures, so going to class is mandatory to get the notes. not a very nice person to talk to either
He is absolutely THE BEST TEACHER I've had in business. If you are interested in the subject and listen to what he has to say in class, you'll have no problem with the exam. He is really smart and makes of his course more than another dry business-type empty talk. However, if you are the typical "business-type", you might hate him.
