Good Prof - pretty funny, easy to follow with his powerpoint BUT tricky tests!!
funny, knows and loves his students, pretty tough tests though!
good integration of course with IT
Great Prof...kept you on your toes...hard tests
Good Prof, overly dependent on Powerpoint.
Moves slowly, spends more time joking around (poorly) than teaching.
Outstanding
Likes to hear his own voice but sometimes he says some good things...
midterm is hard, but he'll bump up your score to maintain a 75% class avg
Outstanding
Course is a waste of time. Can't Teach
corny jokes, hard tests, powerpoint..so..makes it a hard course to learn
The course it self was bad enough, but he made it a little more fun(not that goo
Poor guy's traumatized by plunge in his Air Canada shares! Bad course, OK prof.
killer midterm, repeated slides, airCANairCAN and yeah...airCAN
HORRIBLE COURSE!!! All he ever talked about was his lost money in Air Canada.
do i hafta say air canada?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
funny usually... course was bad though
I think he was halirious..as for love his students? more like $$!
The lawn gnome made me cry!
AirCan AirCan...is it related to the course?Who cares whether you lost money
Learned nothing in this course except for how he lost his money on Air Canada.
good teacher, BAD BAD course
never ever wil I take a course with him
AWESOME.....he's not bad at all..its the course
he talks a lot about nothing
Decent prof, awful course.Lots of groupwork with strangers!
I hate his class more than anything and he is one of the major reasons why
Seems like a nice guy....pretty evil inside...
Time to retire??
Funny prof but has to ball curve marks since he cannot teach course material
The course was tough and he relies too much on groupwork for our marks!!!
Most people would rather rip out their eyes than attend his class
He doenst know enough about computers to be as virtual as he wants to be
You'll enjoy the class and learn the wave, and then fail out of it
The shine from his head blinds you.
He talks a lot, but does not teach much
Good speaker, likes slide shows too much
Avoind him like the plague! Wastes time in class and can't use equipment! BAD!

Not a great teacher, very hard exam, study *EVERYTHING*, but possible to do well
funny, entertaining; exams are based on readings - so don't ignore them
Mid-term was bad, but final marks are really good!!!! overall a happy ending!
Just do the readings and you should ace...hard to stay awake in lecture
Very boring lectures, I never went. Read the book, and the final is easy!
Funny prof, some lectures were boring as sin, overall easy class.
Worst Prof I have ever had, wasted class time. The main subject to each lecture was hard to figure out. He can't use the equipement, and the web aspect of class was horrible. Complete waste of time and money
Tries to make lectures fun but are still boring. Talks a lot but difficult to distinguish what is he trying to teach. Bad explanations. Exams are weird.
I hated his class
nice guy enough guy and tries to make the course fun... but doesn't necessarily succeed. Hard exams but they were bell curved...
I didn't learn anything. He (poorly)used powerpoint as his only instructional tool. The lectures were boring, and the exam was based solely on the textbook.
Takes the first 30 minutes of EVERY class to 'explain' internet, although doesn't seem to know how to use it himself. Very easy to fall asleep in class. Avoid if you can.
Overall an easy course (especially after factoring-in the mark adjustments). Lots of time-wasting during lectures. The prof. is trying to be funny and use PowerPoint/WebBoard, but is not always successful.
Required course but did not learn a thing. Went to class maybe three times and ended up with a 78 in the course. VERY BORING - everyone always fell asleep. He's funny, but you can do the course from home. Take the distance ed version.
AFM 131 is my most difficult class. Simply because I have no idea what is going on.
Teaches this class as if we are all stock brokers already which is terrible because some of us have no idea what's going on!! Puts too much focus on the "glorious" webpage and all its wonders and not enough on actually teaching us Management is
He's a nice guy, but the class needs a professor that will explain the stuff, not make jokes about it. The exams are BRUTAL, complete waste of time studying because the questions are ridiculous. Very frustrating
If you didn't take at least 10 business courses in highschool, you'll have plenty of fun in his class
Tends to joke about everything...after you get past them, his lectures have little substance! Midterm is INSANELY brutal and covered topics never mentioned before...don't bother to study
October 21, 2003..can you tell we had a midterm today? INSANELY hard

he's a great man (cute grandpa) but he can't teach. What he talks about in lectures have no relevance to the text and his midterm was really hard. I have never guessed so much on a test before. he seems to be funny at first but it gets tiring very soon.
Very hard to follow, explains stuff that has no relevance to evaluations, doesn't explain stuff that shows up in evaluations. Still, he's so freaking HOT!!! YOW!
Horrible..
People, Russell bells your grade by 15% in the end. I hear ya but just bear with him. His stock market game is VERY useful for later on in univ if you know nothing about stocks. It's a useful intro course to management/accounting.
Study HARD! Make sure you really understand the concepts. Don't just memorize calculations. He's funny, would be my type of grandpa. Exams are tricky since he puts so many twists for a Qn.
He is a very funny teacher, but the info. he teaches in class is very different to the questions on his midterm. He also talks about issues assuming that everyone knows all about the issues, but lots of people don't.
He is a really nice guy and tries to make the class fun. Have fun doing the wave...It may seem like the material he is covering during class is easy, watch out for the midterm. He wastes a lot of time and isn't very clear on important things.

He seems like a great guy, but expects his students to be at his level. Try's to make class fun, but skips too much important information. Midterm very hard!
He's funny and the only class I don't fall asleep on. The mid term wasn't that bad, it's just that most people didn't study. :p I didn't study and got a pretty good mark.
Expects all students to be math genious' and makes you feel dumb if you don't understand the problems he goes over by constantly commenting that this is "easy math". Very confusing.
Expects too much, especially since most students have never taken such a course before. Lectures are a little boring.
what appears on the midterm 1) articles from course notes 2) text material 3) lecture material 4)killer margin, options problems.. study hard.. you have been forewarned
This man has the most incredible pronounciation of the word "guarantee" that i've ever heard. This is a cool class, there's lots of resources so if you study hard it's easy to do well.
I hated this class! I didn't like his teaching style at all, not enough help given. Also, bad explanations. Terrible mid-term, beware!!!!
Well this course blew huge. It was stupid and not really applicable. The text book was useless. Russel tries but I don't think the course is organized at all very well. I'm sure he's nice, but everything is confusing, unexplained and he's not helpful
Didn't go to class, didn't buy the book. Took management accounting in grade 12. Got 93%. This class was a total waste of my money and time, he's a bad teacher. But it was a required course.
This class wasn't very enlightening, but I managed to learn two points. 1) Don't play the stock market. It's a waste of time and there's a large chance you will lose all your money. 2)Air Canada SUCKS!
Good old Grant is definitely one of the funnier profs I know...he knows how to keep classes attentive, espcially in such an f'n dry course. I think he teaches well for what the course material consists of, but I think expectations are too high
Tries to explain the stuff, but fall short with sad powerpoint and internet skills... midterm was brutal, so was the final... Don't take this course unless you're required
Funny guy, interesting class.
The only class I didn't fall asleep in. Very funny and interesting classes. All these people that are complaining are people who got the wrong idea that his mid terms and exams were gona be easy and did really bad. Frankly, I didn't touch the textbook
Funny, funny guy.....if you have an accounting background no worries, take the course....
The class size of 500 got smaller and smaller eventually. He reuses his stupid jokes no one gets. The exams were absolutely ridiculous, there was no way you could have studied for them. Bad prof, no help what so ever.
Acc131 now AFM131 was the worst class ever! So boring, for the first two weeks he tells jokes and talks about martha and air canada! What a joke he is! If I wanted to talk about stupid things id keep my $500 and go talk to someone in the mall!
Only take a course with Russell if it is a required course. That is my advice to you.
funny guy!
An accounting genius, but a terrible prof. He cannot explain concepts in term that everyone can understand, and seems fairly arrogant and unapproachable. Be prepared to spend a lot of time outside of class learning material he breezes over.
This class could have been so much better. There were good elements (stock market game) but overall it was dry and Russell did little to make it interesting. I was just glad I did well and won't have to suffer through this class ever again.
Great guy! Corny jokes but how can you not love this guy. He really cares about his students! tough to make material interesting but he does his best. Watch out for midterm though! Fair marker - bell-curved midterm. But after midterm gets much easier.
Never replies to emails. Lectures are useless. Does not say when assignments are due and expects us to do them before 'the' due date. Tells us component should take only a minute, leaving the class to believe it is not worth much or anything at all but ends up being worth a significant percentage.
The guy's a joke. Nuff' said.
Exam was poorly designed to test students' knowledge about the course and there were frequent significant errors throughout the exam. Classes were not helpful most of the time. Instructions for assignment were not clear. However, he takes great interest in the accounting faculty.
The only reason this guy is still teaching here is because of his tenure. I agree with the other AFM 481 comments below. Also, telling the same stories as in AFM 131 is lame.
Professor is a joke. Don't expect to learn much.
AMAZING PROF!!!
Always have funny stories to tell to the class, very irrelevant to the course material/exam. Go to class for entertainment, don't expect to learn much.
Very interesting prof, but midterms and finals are brutal. Mostly saved by the bell curve.
Funny guy, but his teaching ability leaves much to be desired. Assumes students know the information and rapidly flips through slides (leaving us lost), assigns participation grades almost randomly (ppl who don't show up get 8/10?), and his exams are pretty unrepresentative of class work. The book is essentially useless, study past exams to do well
Russell was interesting during the first class when we got to know him. Since then it was downhill from there. Flips through slides quickly making time to talk about gibberish. Textbook + slides + assignments = useless for the exams. Avoid him the old man at all costs.
Also had him for AFM 482. Worst prof ever. Has tenure so no matter how bad his teaching is, students won't be heard. Lectures and textbooks are useless. Midterms and finals are amazingly hard. Final was was bell curved by 20%. Horrible teacher. Please retire.
If you stop in at office hours, you'll see that he truly care about your success and will motivate you. Course content is intimidating but extremely organized on ACE making it easy to follow. Self taught style as lectures goes off topic often, go through topics yourself and do practice midterms. You can write in the textbook but don't rely on it.
Very helpful professor! If you go to his office hours, he knows you care and will motivate you to do well. The textbook problems and class notes help, but definitely focus on past exams! :)
Well-meaning. Good things about him stop there though. Extremely disorganized. Often has no idea what he is doing in regards to assignments, since he often structures it on a whim. Exams are rather hard.
Let me begin by saying that Grant Russell is a very nice man. However, he is unquestionably the worst professor in all of SAF. He often makes mistakes when taking up problems in class, and is completely out of touch with how students absorb and learn the material. I'd write more if the character limit was longer. Please, please, please retire!
great prof!
If you participate in class and practice past exams, it's easy to ace the class. He is a great prof! Most people brush off the class and end up doing poorly.
Worst course I ever taken. Hes nice but he's a horrible professor
A nice person, but a horrible professor, one of the worst in SAF. Taught myself the whole course, did NOT learn through him.
