Easy class and you need little effort to get a good grade. Recommended for ACC elective.
Difficult class. Generous with his marking though. Never bothers correcting assignments.

Hilarious dude, but can't really teach. Then again, the content in 345 is real sketchy, so it might not be his fault. His exams often will have questions that were never brought up in class. But just when you think you failed the test/course, you'll end up with a decent mark.

Dr. Ansong is the best professor.
Hardest final exam ever! Questions came from parts of the text we never read. The questions he told us to "commit to memory" weren't even on the exam. Still don't understand what financial accounting theory actually is.

very funny and helpful .. you have to keep up to date with reading .. if your not sure about anything he is willing to help you out .. i recommend him to every person taking accounting .. better in the summer if possible..

this prof is too funny. he will make you laugh every class! he never actually marks the assingments and he tells you exactly what is on the midterm and exam. he is pretty crazy but he knows his accounting. its as simple as that

He introduces new material on exams and exam questions aren't worded properly; he expects an answer for a question he's not even really asking. He doesn't mark assignments, and gave everyone 10% on the midterm (ie, your mark in this class will be "made up", it won't reflect what you actually know)
He is the worst unprofessional Prof. Which he doesn't deserve that position at SMU. He has two faces but either of them is so deceiving. In add/drop week you would think he is the coolest guy there and then Bam u r going to regret being in his class. Warning, don't ever go to his office hours.( He is very rude and arrogant!)Don't waste ur money!!!!

By far the worst professor I've ever had. When students ask for help, he scoffs and ridicules them in front of others, without providing an answer. Rather than offer help, he advises students to 'drop the course' if he doesn't think they are smart enough. It is an embarrassment to the school that this teacher is even employed.
A little hard to understand but better than most accounting teachers! Will try and help you out as much as he can with bonus assignments and he likes people that try. Going to office hours helps!
Easily the worst prof I've ever had at SMU. He yelled at students who asked questions and even called out the students who were failing the class in front of the class! He needs to realize that he's not 6 feet tall and adjust his attitude.

i'm sorry, but what exactly was i supposed to learn from this course? abstract, unorganized, and incomprehensible, ansong will have you grasping for the nearest door-knob during class. don't expect exams to be easy, either, which is strange considering the subject material isn't that complex or hard to understand.
absolutely the worst professor i've ever had. inconsistant teaching style, unwilling to entertain questions, flirts with the female students and may or may not teach 50% of the time. Exam questions inconsitent with material covered. Really poor representative of university.

Hilarious prof. Loved him. You have to go to class though. If he likes you you will do well.
He gives scary lectures. and hard exam! for 3345,we were supposed to have midterm and he changed to a paper. we had 3 papers in total that we never got them back or got to know the mark. after the final , all I know for the entire course is the only mark (C). I went to every class and took notes but really pissed that we dont get any other marks
ansong is actually.. nice. screams at people to understand, but hes harmless, thats all. he helps pretty well, although he likes to trick you well. he re-uses his exams, but he can go back a couple of years.. so dont expect for things to be recent. his final was decent. more common sense wise. study from notes and assignments and youll do fine

Hard to follow during lectures. Teacher did seem very passionate about the topic. However, was very confusing in reference to the textbook. Also made you feel very stupid if you didn't know the answer the the question.
I have never been so happy with a grade in my life because I could honestly not tell you one thing I learned in this class. Granville is such a nice man, he's incredibly smart which I think is the problem. He's so smart he doesn't understand why the students don't get it. He wants you to do well. The class is very difficult to follow.
This class has so much potential but with this prof it's not enjoyable at all. Go to class and copy every WORD. I missed one class and wasn't able to finish a question from the final exam - which was the hardest final I have written. Make sure he knows your name.. I am sure I failed the final but ended up with a B+.
He likes to see effort, I think that's important especially for someone like me who barely passed both the final and midterm. The class has a lot of potential but he's too smart and expects you to know too much, too soon. I missed one class and could answer a heavily weighted question on both the final and midterm. DONT MISS A CLASS!
Among the best I have ever been tought by in my academic years, a true genious, makes the course very easy to understand, uses lots of examples from real to make the material more clearer, one of few professors that has an open door policy, very helpful, amazing sense of humor. made me love accounting.
Do not recommend. Discriminates against women and when reported to the Conflict Resolution Advisor, she admitted that he has been reported more than a handful of times concerning similar circumstances. His lectures are scattered and intense.
This semester I took two courses of Dr. Ansong (ACCT3343&ACCT4445) and I can absolutely recommend this professor! He is by far one of the best professors I have ever had: He's always willing to help, cares a lot about his students and he's also great at explaining things. His notes are really useful to understand complex topics. Don't miss a class!
A complete mess of a class. Read the book and don't rely on him at all otherwise, you'll probably need to take the class again. Classes are super scattered, the notes he writes on the overhead board make absolutely no sense. Worst prof at SMU period.

Great prof gives really good explanations in class lets you know what will be on the exams and curves almost every exam. If you do not go to class you probably won't do well, if you go you are likely to get a good grade.
Worst professor I have had at SMU. He expects students to be as smart as him. We got a question on the midterm that we have not solved similar to in class. If you are going to take a class with him, make sure you attend every class and study hard FROM THE TEXT BOOK.
Do yourself a big favor and simply avoid his class. His teaching style is old school pen and paper, everything tends to get messy in the end. Might try to look nice and friendly in class but will most likely give difficult exam (even to those who are prepared to spend the time learning.)
Lectures are scattered, makes it near impossble to take notes that make any sense. Assignments are unclear. Your best bet is to teach yourself from the textbook. Always leave this class with more anxiety than i came with.
Truly the GOAT, no one can match his incredible lectures. Funny, kind, charming, this man changed my life. Learned so much and had a lot of fun along the way. A special professor like this is rare so enjoy your time with him.
read the reviews on here beforehand, still took the course with this professor and severely regret it. Notes are very messy, hardly teaches and mostly covers an example or two in class and expects students to get it instantly. He has told us to not even use the textbook for certain topics as they are either not mentioned or his notes are "better"
The reviews here are accurate, he expects students to already know what he is "teaching". Seems like he is annoyed/bothered whenever a student asks a question. You are better off taking this course online during the summer if he's teaching this course again during the school year. STAY AWAY!!
Wasn't available for his office hours without notifying students. If curious if there was extra practice material to study with or questions about his assignments, he would talk down to you and make you feel stupid, as if the material is not hard. He's a teacher, he should answer his students questions whether he thinks they are dumb or not.
Worst prof I've ever had hands down. Was ready to lose my money and drop the class to take it next semester with another prof but found out he was the only one who teaches it. Tests are not at all what he teaches you in class and expects you to already know everything. More than half the class failed the midterm and he didn't care.
The class is very choppy and attendance is mandatory as he gives specific questions that will be on the midterm/final. Other than those little hints you are on your own for everything else and if you do not get above a 40 on the midterm you may as well take the W and retake. A very passable course if you work hard for it.
I wouldn't take this class unless you are very confident with accounting principles. Do not make the mistake I did and take this course an elective. Ansong still uses the P-drive from 1978 so that's helpful. He also acts like any question asked in class is obvious. Do not recommend him or this class.

If youre reading this. Take the course online with a different prof! The prof should not be allowed to teach. 40% of the class failed the midterm AFTER THE CURVE (its not the students, its the prof). Exams are unreasonable and he's very unorganized. He doesnt use brightspace and basically said dont bother emailing him bc he wont answer.

I don't even know where to start with this guy. I took this class during the pandemic and after we went online, I never heard from him again. He is literally aggressively mean to students. he's disorganized and refuses to use technology. The only saving grace to this class is that you just need a 40% or higher on the midterm to pass the class. RIP
Just a plain 2/5. Content isn't too hard but you have to learn it all yourself. No reasoning behind different methods is explained in the slightest. No need to buy the textbook or go to class. The assignments weren't hard but since you have to teach yourself how to do them they take a while. Avoid him if you can.

This prof made the course so much harder than it needed to be. Material is slightly difficult already plus half of the time the class notes he gives are wrong. Essentially taught myself the course. Highly recommend taking another professor if possible.

He expects you to have a deep understanding of the class and only very lightly brushes on the topics he teaches. Every class is a new chapter and he never goes over the content in enough detail for you to understand it. Avoid if possible
This is the first time I'm reviewing a professor because of how awful his classes are. This person's classes are so scattered and hard to understand. You are expected to have an understanding of the material. every class is a new chapter if not two. It is obvious he has a great understanding of what he teaches but some people just shouldn't teach.
if he was not so funny he would have a lower grade, my favorite accounting prof, i love his classes unlike everyone else on rmp. GO TO CLASS THOUGH, youre gonna 100% fail if you dont attend every lecture. He rounds most of his midterms and finals. My one complaint is his notes are a mess, but hes so funny that cancels out. 10/10
He is hard to learn from. His lectures/notes are going through solutions to questions, without explaining the concepts. However, his exams/midterm are very fair. This course requires a lot of hours but is certainly doable.

Do not miss the lectures since the content of the course is entirely taught in class with 99% of it being calculations with the conceptual and theory part, the responsibility of the student to read on their own. The final is worth half of the entire grade. Students need to put in a lot of work to pass the class.
This was one of the worst classes I've taken. The content itself wasn't too bad, but the delivery was terrible and I left class every day having no idea what I had just been "taught". He was really rude too, I never spoke up in class because he laughed at people if they asked a simple question. Unfortunately a mandatory class for certain majors.
I was almost never able to follow his lectures or what he writes on the board. He can definitely be rude if you ask him questions but I know a lot of people never had any issues. Definitely be prepared to learn a lot on your own the lectures are much better if you already know the content.
Honestly if you get on his good side he is a great prof. His notes on each chapter are incredible, very clear and straight to the point. He teaches stuff that you'll see in future courses too which can make the class seem hard at the beginning but as you get used to it you'll realize you're ahead of the game as long as you study his notes well.
Granvile's classes can be hit or miss, but I found unstuck ai really helpful for preparing. The material is challenging, but going to lectures and using AI-powered study tools made it manageable. Take it if you need to, but be ready to put in the work.

The course is difficult and requires A LOT of practice. He posts solid notes for every class. The midterms and finals are doable if you practice before, questions often mimic assignments and in class examples. At first he is a little hard to follow, but he is funny and knows what he is talking about so pay attention and you will do fine.
