helpful and entertaining prof
No Comments
Fair at teaching and give easy exams. Otherwise useless.
Off topic sometimes. But he is fine
He is actually quite carefree, and uses notes that are helpful for the quizzes, but the multiple choice are hard to deal with. The biggest problem is that the notes gives do not help during the final at all, you will fail unless you read the textbook and understand most of it, boring, and repeats the useless info and does not plan what hewouldteach
can't teach, take another prof
He's very boring and absolutely horrible at teaching. He goes off topic and humbles alot. On top of that, his notes are not helpful.
Read each chapter and do all of the problems in the textbook/study guide and you'll get an A. This is how every class should be. He can get off topic, but its usually more interesting than the actual course material, so I was fine with it.
Hes very nice and understanding but not clear on stuff
waste so many time talking about something useless in class, what he talked will never show in his exam; a lot of students do not attend the lecture but get a high mark; all you need to do is to read the book and do the exercises, but if you ask, he will never explain, a horrible teacher!
Gary is a nice guy however he's quite difficult to listen to. His notes are messy and his exams are anything but easy.
I pretty much left half way for most of the lectures, simply because HE WAS JUST THAT BORING! I got an A- by reading a fair amount of the textbook and some of his notes that apply to the textbook. Recommendations: take his class ONLY if you are a self-learner willing to read the text, and only attend lectures if you have trouble understanding.
One of the few instructors that is actually passionate about the topic and relates it to current events. Goes beyond the book in lectures. Yes he is monotone and if you're not interested in the subject you'll get bored. Not hard just read chapters if you dont get it. FUNNY GUY!
Good prof. Well prepared and excellent lectures. Had a great time in this class.
Worst teacher I had in my life. cant explain properly (vague, unclear and rushed), tests are different than things he teaches, always goes on a tangent. has this awkward laugh he does every minute.
Very hard to listen to. lacks quality but has too much quantity in his lectures. rarely will u understand wt he says unless u read the book. caution: read textbook!
Nice guy, not very good at teaching. seemed pretty passionate at first, but had not idea what he was rambling about. everything is self explanatory so reading will get u far. be warned of his quizzes and tests.
Best teacha eva!!!
Seems very passionate, but be warned: He is very hard to listen to. I can't understand him unless I read the textbook
His lecturer notes and his speech are useless. Only few students attend his lecturer. You don't need to come to class, textbook is more helpful. 50 multiple choice in the final exam, and a lot of questions he even had not covered in class.
learned nothing from his class. Boring class and hard exams.
I think Gray is not that bad as he explains things quite well in emails but not in class... His lectures are boring becox econ is boring!!Anyway if u take his class, you just have to attend for the tests since self-study is a better option :) Overall, Gray is friendly but unclear.
His class is not difficult, he will not spoon feed you everything so if you do not read the book, do study questions and/or online questions you won't get a good grade. Fair marker, easy to understand and well summarized notes. The thing is you will have to do work outside the class in order to get a good grade. Don't be lazy and you'll be fine.
His lecture is boring. read the book and the notes before the exam
nice guy class is boring just self-study not that hard
Horrible instructor, he rambles on about things outside of courses material for the majority of the class. If you want to be bored out of your mind, do take his class because he loves talking to himself too. If you like to self teach yourself everything then this instructor is the one for you
Gray is passionate for sure but the course materials is a bit hard if you are not familiar with the banking system. His class is boring and be prepared to self-study. Better to avoid this course.
I took his class and ended up with an A+ at the end. I saw a lot of my classmates hating this guy while he did everything he could have done as your Econ prof. Problem is students come to lecture and except to know everything after but forget the fact that course is accompanied by a textbook which you should read page to page to be able to pass!
boring
I took his course, and scored perfect. He does over-explain points, which makes it really boring, but they are important points. Many people fail his class because they can't sit through class and thus stop going to classes. All his test questions are from class material.
Gray is often given a hard time by students, but he is probably one of the most fair and accommodating profs I've had at Langara. Attending his lectures are optional in my opinion, I mostly self-learned from the textbook, study guide, and his practice questions. Practice questions are essential!
He is a very very nice teacher. His lecture is great. It is important to go to class because notes are important Midterm format is like the practise test format First midterm lots of people did very bad. He ended up counting top two highest midterms out of the 3 midterms. If you read the textbook and know the notes well you can do well.
Really a great teacher easy tests also
Possibly my favorite Langara teacher. Funny, VERY accessible to answer any questions or even just to chat about economics-related stuff, Not difficult to get 100% so long as you attend class and sit in the first few rows--unless you already understand everything. Test format and grading criteria super clear
Gray is very comedic in class which makes it enjoyable. However, ECON 1220 is a tough course. If ECON is not your major or if you're not already familiar with some of the material, you may struggle in his class. His tests are very similar to his practice questions. You can do well in his class, but definitely have to work for it.
Known to go off topic while lecturing so it makes it hard to follow the lesson, the textbook is your best friend if you cant get much from the lectures
To be honest, Gray gets off topic ALOT, which causes us to take longer to learn certain lessons. Once he starts talking he never stops (so its good and bad). His tests are quite easy if you understand the concept. ECON is a hard concept, so study hard! Overall, he is a good teacher, easy tests, just lectures could be boring.
Have him for Econ 1220 and a majority of his lectures are personal stories and he often goes off topic so it becomes very confusing and AWFULLY boring. The textbook is more helpful however, the tests are almost too good to be true. Tests have very little questions so it's easy to make mistakes and have marks deducted. Not hard to pass at all.
One of the best macro instructors at Langara. His online videos were very helpful, but in the end he started to not post them. Lectures ended up being sometimes rushed. He showed enthusiasm when teaching and gave clear notes on what to study for tests.
He gets easily distracted in his lectures and doesn't usually get all the materials covered. The problems that he does manage to go over, you're not always certain that the answer is the correct one. This was a mixed mode class, the online lectures were a bit more clear but in-congruent with the text. Read the book and do it's practice questions.
He's very passionate about economics which made me want to learn. I've seen some reviews on here about him being scattered but for me it just seemed like enthusiasm about the material. Microeconomics is an incredibly difficult topic and he does everything he can to help his students and make the topics digestible to beginners.
Best instructor in Langara. Good job Gray. Keep you good work. He is clear, he will tell you what kinds of questions in the exam and tests.
Okay yes this teacher gets off track easily, but trust me hes easier than other professors when it comes to ECON. His test is literally one page DOUBLE SIDED, which is MUCH easier than other professors who gives u tests that are AT LEAST 4 pages long.
Good instructor. Wants students to succeed. Use office hours. Read the book. Do the questions on MyEconLab. Pay attention. You'll pass the class. Do a bit more and you should get an A.
Ian taking his Microeconomics class right now. He is very caring for his students. He makes sure you understand the materials. Definitely would take his class again.
He's passionate. I'll give him that. Like to go on about the subject at hand, doesn't necessarily go on tangents TOO often. I found him a burst of energy for a morning class. Was very considerate about us students and all around a great guy. His enthusiasm is contagious, that's for sure.
Demotivating cant his a lot to talk about other the the subject itself. Ask him a question takes 20 mins to answer a 1 minute answer.
He is a very helpful prof!
Gray is a great guy! He is very passionate and emotional about what he is talking about. I took his half-online course, so in the in-class lectures he assumes that the students have watched the video lecture upfront, otherwise the material will be unclear. Gray gets very disappointed when people are talking in class, which is understandable.
He doesn't teach. All he does is yell the entire lecture and doesn't address anything on the slides he gives you. If you are good at studying by yourself then take the course but he is very very bad at teaching. WIll go on tangents over small stuff then leave half the slides to the last 5 min of class. He doesn't help with anything.
He is a really really nice instructor. Exams are so easy compared with other sections.
In class he gets off topic and is hard to follow, but his lecture videos on d2l are really helpful. If you do the in class worksheets, the textbook exercises and practice quizzes then the exams will be fairly easy.
please avoid his classes. that is all i can say
You won't meet a professor that is more passionate about economics. His lectures are quite entertaining. One of the more test-light courses I've taken. Not really any homework. Only 2 major exams (mid-term and final) and 4 quizzes. It's up to you to stay on top of the studying, which you'll be awarded with a great mark if you do.
Gray is a good teacher. He has clear grading criteria and you know exactly what you're going to be tested on. His online practice quizzes are useful MCQ questions for midterm and final exams. He gets off-topic often in lectures, and he is never on time for his office hours. Also, he rarely replies emails, very hard to reach him during office hours
Gray deserves a much higher rating than he was given credit for. As long as you go to class to fill out notes, read the textbook, you will do well in the class!! Lectures are dry, but come on, its econ. His exams are one page double-sided, and they look almost identical to his in-class notes. Many ppl skip class, thus has no idea what to expect.
Gray is my favorite eco professor. hes so hilarious and the most enthusiastic one. Easy to pass. Gray definitely deserve a better rating
If you want to teach the course to yourself then take his class... I dropped the course after his first lecture... HORRIBLE
As long as you understand his worksheets, you will get 90+. He is really caring.
Professor Gray Giovannetti seems like a good prof if you attend the class, but right now all classes are online so I strongly regret enrolling into his class. Videos that he has posted do not provide learning value, watch it & you would be still confused. you dont learn econ you will learn Math with No real life use. So avoid till covid is over.
He is very knowledgeable and truly cares about students. His online lectures are nice and grading criteria are clear. I want to take more Econ courses with him.
His online lectures are great. As long as you do the worksheets and assignments, you won't see much different on the exams. He is very caring and will take the time to ensure you understand the material.
Good teacher he looks and sounds like Caitlin Jenner other than that he is easy just do your work.
gives good feedback
Gray is a great instructor. These ratings mostly reflect when he was unorganized I presume. He seems to have learnt from feedback and now has organized lectures that were clear and lots of practice questions. Approachable and tests were straightforward. I guess I wish he was a bit more energetic in his lectures as he talks pretty slow.
He is quite clear at explaining the subject but, you need more work outside the class if you want to get a good score. He only explains the beginning of the chapter then you need to catch up on the rest of the chapter by yourself. The exams are also really hard so bear with it.
Lecture videos were a blessing. Easy to learn from and outlines the course concepts very eloquently. Tests were harder than any of the quizzes or assignments yet they prepared you for the exams. You get out what you put in with this guy.
Very boring lectures and the exams are not so easy.
His lectures can be somewhat boring at times but he has lecture notes saved from the covid era so it basically summarizes the things that he says in class. The midterms are quite straight forward you should be taught everything there. Even he says he will not do any "extend your learning" and you will only be tested on what you have been taught.
Gray is very nice person. His lectures are average. There are a lot of workloads if you want to get a good grade. Exams are not very difficult, but not so easy either. He provides good materials to study with (practice exams, lecture videos, notes) which was so helpful.
I LOVE GRAY! I took both micro and macro with him. 5/5 for Gray but the course was quite hard. You have to put in the work to understand the macro concepts because Economics is generally not easy. Weekly quzzies were straight forward and exams had questions from mylab practice questions. I would take every class with Gray if i could. TAKE HIM!
I'm taking both 1220 and 1221 with Gray. He is amazing will never lie about that. Nice, caring, not at all biased towards his students. Always ready to help but he ruins the flow of the lecture. While explaining something, he suddenly goes off topic and starts talking about random stuff without finishing the explanation. Hard for people w ADHD :(
Great guy but very tough grader and isn't very engaging it feels like i'm being talked at throughout the whole lecture, he is caring and is ready to help but just not a good teacher.
He is really a tough grader. I did quite good in finals and hoped for high grades but still class average was unexpected. No matter how much you are gonna study his marking scheme will let you down.Otheriwse he is not biased which is a good thing.
He is not a good professor at all his exams are very tough he doesn't help the one to succeed in course his class average is really low i can say must avoid him if u want to pass the course the economics is really hard but if u chooses him it must be more harder suggest to choose another professor for this course
His lectures are too boring. He always goes off topic. Don't take his classes if you want to get good grades. He is helpful but his teaching style is not good .
Unreal if u like not coming to class
Gray is amazing, a passionate instructor, and a fair grader. His class isn't that hard, but if you want to get a good grade, you definitely need to work hard! He always tries to help students as much as possible and provides supplemental materials to help you understand better. I don't know why some students give him such a low score.
I liked him. Very passionate about the topic and is willing to help you. if you do the practice questions and put the work in you'll get a good grade. Lectures can be boring. he doesn't post the notes online so its helpful to attend class. it moved at a good pace so I could take the time to understand the material. I'd take his class again
Don't take his classes if you want good grades.
He often goes off topic in class, but he posts all his lecture videos online, which I find helpful for exams. I learned everything from his lecture videos, which are short and clearly explain the topic. I didn't attend any of his classes but still got a good grade, so work hard in this course and stop blaming the teacher.
He is amazing teacher. I am an international student and my English is very poor, so actually I cannot understand his lectures at first. His notes and instructional videos are very organized and they help me a lot. He is caring. If not taking his courses, I might not get this grade.
Gray is a wonderful teacher! He's super kind and doesn't mind explaining topics to you after class or during his office hours. He always tries to break things down and make them easier to understand which I appreciate! It's a test heavy class where your grade is made up of 3x test which is a bit heavy but practise the do the exercises and practice
He's a funny guy who yaps quite a bit during lectures (stopped coming in after some weeks), but he cares for students and is a reasonably good prof overall. I think the course itself isn't exactly the easiest to begin with but he tries his best
Good instructor, only critique I have is that he goes very slow over the easiest concepts and by the end of class he is rushing to finish the chapter. Otherwise the class is pretty simple, basically just microeconomics but with basic calculus and his exams and quizzes have some questions that are identical to the practice ones he gives out.
