Greg has changed my outlook on life. I respect him for the view he possess and can only hope to aspire towards the likeliness of him. I have found my best friends in his class and a little bit of myself. I encourage anyone to enroll in anything he teaches

Greg is a cool teacher. Overall he does a good job, though should give more effort to understand students needs of the class, when those needs differ from his plan of how the class should look like. He is friendly with his students, though sometimes too friendly!!!!!!!!!
Greg definantly is not your average english teacher. I found the class frustrating, because we never stayed in topic. and he has ABSOLOUTLY no control over his students. It is easy to get a 4.0 if you write about insane things, without being too concerned with the actual content of the paper.
Talk and write about topics that are not your average subjects. It was a lot of work, but all in all you learn new things. Off topic sometimes, but it was always a good time in class. First English teacher that made me actually think.
Greg is a very pleasant, funny. he tries to get his students to explore new ideas, question traditional expectations, and write creatively. He will ask you to write copious short works comprised of your own thoughts
Greg is very good at communication over email, & will address any of your concerns right away. Composition isn't a very fun class anyways, but he does try his best to make it different & stimulating- you will have to think ALOT about topics that you never had any desire to previous & whether you like it or not, it does expand your horizons.
Greg kicks ass!!!
Gregs the best, no doubt about it!

he gave us a 3 page assignment ont he first day! too much work
Greg is one of the best at Seattle Central for sure. He will get your creative juices flowing when it comes to writing. Has a way of lighting a fire under your butt in this thing called life. A great mentor and professor.
Bachar brings a spirit of creativity to his class; some students might be put off by being asked to think for themselves about the topics covered, but I enjoyed the freedom of being able to discover the writer inside me by exploring art, film, music, poetry, and literature.
Greg is an interesting, creative person who makes you work--you will write quite a bit. He helps you to consider different ideas and will expose you to new things. As mentioned by other reviewers, there are a lot of videos, though.
he is the worst teacher i've ever had in seattle central. he barely teaches, in fact he just plays movies all the time and the movies are boring. his homework is terribly hard and he gives low grades!!! i dont think i learned something from him, not even some writing skills. do not take his class!

Although the work load was a bit overwhelming, if you want to take a class that is challenging, exciting, and refreshing-this is the one. I dreaded taking a research class but two weeks into the course I was so fascinated by the subject material that I realized I was enjoying myself. Seattle Central is lucky to have this teacher. Highly recommended
Greg is a great guy. He assigns way too much work, but he gives you an A if you do it. The topics we covered were very interesting so it wasn't boring at all. He takes late work as well which rules. Take a class from him if you want to become a better writer.
Take this class if you like writing at least two essays a week. Interesting guy and material but he uses class time a a time for researching topics instead of covering how to write research essays. This class would be awesome if the work load less (maybe one essay a week)
I liked the mix of films, field trips, reading, and class discussions. Professor is helpful during office hours in explaining topics and talking about writing. I recommend him. Cool class.
Great class. Really great topic discussions. Couldn't get enough!
He puts a lot of effort in the class, and expects you to do the same. Usually around two essays a week. Classroom time is easy, with discussions and movies. But it sucks to waste time in school while writing a lot at home. He gives a lot of feedback, so if your goal is to improve, take him. If you are looking for an easy time, pick someone else.
The course material is very interesting and forces the class to look at the world in a different way. Greg leaves assignments ambiguous to all students the freedom to explore topics they found interesting in the required reading. Greg also makes the students use local museums, conventions, and farmers markets as research which was surprisingly fun.
Bachars a cool dude. This class was fun and the material relevant. Be prepared to write, this is not a cake class, but as long as you do the assignments he grades pretty loosely. If you want to improve your writing skills in a fun manner while also gaining a better understanding of upcoming issues, take his class.
Good professor. The work is tough in terms of quantity, but fun. Easily the best class I've had in years.
Bad teacher
Good teacher.
Awesome Teacher
Good teacher with cool teaching style :)..But you have to write a lot in this class
By far my favorite teacher at Central. Difficult, lots of writing, trips to art museums. Extremely intelligent, kind of intimidating but very helpful. Good assignments All of the films and books read are extremely interesting, especially if you like Brian Eno and science fiction. He is really into sustainability and the future.
Bachar Great is a good teacher. He seems to be hard and strict at first but he will be friendly and opened when you know him well. Lots of writing, I admit, but if you come up with good ideas and the willingess to complete the work then you probaly get B-A not B-D. He is fun, simple, loves technology and future. My most appriciated teacher at CENTR
bachar was funny at times, often not. the workload was more than my other classes that quarter, but reasonable for an english class. Petpeeve of this class: showed a number of subtitled movies and demanded extensive notes- went to art museums, which were nice.
Great guy, really introspective, teaches really well, funny, makes you approach things differently which is pretty cool.
Greg is a really great teacher. I went into the class because I had to take it, but he turned my perspective upside down. He's one of those teachers that really makes you be creative and actually think! He convinced me that I actually could be a writer, if I wanted to be. I hope to meet more people as interesting as him.
The man!
Awesome teacher!! The work load in this one class was more then all of my other classes combined.. he expects you to be passionate about your writing like it's your life... Take this class if you love writing, because you average 2-3 writing assignments per week plus large amounts of reading.. great teacher!!
Super easy. Good content. I took this class over the summer online, and did OK managing with a full time job... I'm not sure how this class would be during the regular school year, but definitely manageable online.
Fantastic teacher! Probably my favorite class I have taken at SCCC! I took last winter. Unique content(future and technology) and the books are pretty interesting. Definitely not your average Eng class. Can be a lot of work if you don't stay on top of things. Honestly though: GREAT, GREAT class. I wish he taught more classes.
Greg's class was incredibly interesting. He's a free-thinker, and terribly intelligent. He's open to any discussion. The lessons he comes up with on the fly are his best. He's funny and easy to get along with, and charming. Despite the randomness of his class, you really do learn a lot. I wish I'd appreciated his class more. He's great.
Greg's class is one of the best I've ever taken. The work load seems intimidating at first, but it's really a breeze. Most of the writing is reflection, and a lot is done in class. Greg is brilliant, and an incredible writer himself. He'll make you think and maybe change your life. I learned so much from him. Great class!!!
Greg Bachar is definitely one of the top 5 best teachers I have ever had!
He takes getting used to, but he really loves what he does. He is actually very cute. I think it's the glasses
At first the amount of writing is overwhelming, but once you get into it it's a breeze. He's very helpful and available for questions. We did a lot of fun stuff went to museums, parks, and sometimes had class outside (spring quarter). He does have a sense of humor that you have to get used to so i hope you're not easily offended. =) AMAZING!!!
I had Greg for a couple classes in a row. At first I thought he was a little nuts, but he's actually brilliant. He's very funny and insightful, and I really enjoyed his class. In hindsight, he might be the coolest person I've ever met. His fiction/poetry writing is amazing too. Take his class, and listen to every word he has to say! He's great.
Best teacher I have ever had. Period. Thank you so much Greg.
He is so hard
Great teacher who obviously really cares. I said that he can be somewhat hard, but that's only because he won't allow you to be mediocre. Great teacher!
Being Greg's pupil was equivalent to being Kwai Chang Caines, studying under Master Po. Brilliant techniques in writing with clear concise instructions. Studies are long and hard, but the rewards are much more. Like learning too hear. Yes, to write is to hear your own being. I heard the knowledge of water flowing down the hill this spring.
CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE ENG 102 WITH HIM!
He's one of the teachers that really taught me a lot. My writing skills drastically improved after 102. The themes he picks lingers in your mind and become a part of you. A hard class to forget. But he can be a witch when it comes to typing up stuff and things he thought he said. Keep on top of the reading and writing. ur in for a great journey.
He's a very helpful teacher. He lets you turn in work late and will offer you loads of advice when you're stuck. Just get ready for a HUGE work load.
Bachar's classes are challenging and very worth while. He wants his students to come out as strong writers and better students, that is why he is so challenging. He is always stoked when students come in for help or conversation about material being covered in class. The topics in 102 are really interesting and linger in your thoughts. Rewarding.
Wrapped up distance learning with Bachar, and have to give him flying colors across the board. He takes every assignment as an opportunity to create conversation and thoughtful input on your writing. He's a master of positively-reinforced learning. Prepare to write a lot, and to be probed into exercising originality and your own opinions.
Greg puts as much passion and energy into his teaching as the artists he explores with his classes. He is tough, but in the best way possible. Take any class he teaches and you will thank yourself later.
Was a very challenging class! I had a love hate feeling with the work. The reading stretched my thinking and views. The writing was challenging but rewarding. He was responsive and helpful for the online class.
Greg made an online class fun. The assignments were challenging, but he was always available to answer questions.
This class took me well above and beyond what I hoped to get from an online course, which is A GOOD THING. Keep an open mind when approaching the content and assignments- in my opinion the reading portion was truly great, if not mind-blowing. Greg is also a fair grader with great tips on expanding your craft. Excellent, 4.0.
Strange, but in a good way. He makes his classes interesting. One of the few teachers I've met who will write out a thoughtful review of your work, so just pay attention to that and you'll do fine.
Be prepared to type up a lot of papers.15pages/week=stress. A good fellow, no problems there. He's really into having you read about science fiction/technology based stuff. If you're into Sci-Fi,you'll love it. If your an English major or an aspiring writer then take him. If you just need to fulfill the ENGL 102 requirement then find someone else.
Very challenging, innovative, thought-provoking. Lots of research papers/reading/films on doomsday/utopia scenarios, technology changing education & the future of humankind. Art gallery fieldtrips! Much more than an ENG class because of topics covered! Bachar has a dry sense of humor, gives thoughtful feedback & is passionate about what he teaches.
Great instructor, lots of writing but if you use lots of support quotes and incorporate sources well you will do great; well you have to be eloquent with your words as well. Learned a lot through the mandatory readings as well, a thought provoking class.
If you love writing, this is your man! Formal research is my weakest writing style, but Greg did a great job helping me understand how easy it really is and how I can combine creativity into it. Technology is something that is going on in our lives and is forming rapidly. I enjoyed being able to research the possibilities of our near future!
Very strange (in a good way). Very challenging. A lot of writing but very helpful. If you want to improve your writing, he is the RIGHT person who can help with that.
Greg is an amazing teacher and a really funny dude. He is frank with his expectations, extremely helpful, and a very knowledgeable guy. Greg is the best college level teacher that I have ever had. I can't say enough nice things about him. If Isaac Asimov and Louis CK had a child it would be Greg. That is a compliment. Take his class.
There's a lot of work and you're expected to do the reading but he clearly wants everyone to succeed and is willing to work with you if you have to turn in a paper or two late.
Expects you to work "day in and day out" as if you don't have anything else to do in your life. Average of six pages of writing per week; definitely a class that caused me a lot of stress. But as hateful as I sound... I surprisingly learned a lot and probably improved as a writer. I can tell that Greg wants all his students to succeed.
He's pretty intimidating. He's very specific and tells you what he wants from the start. As much as I didn't like the class, he was still very helpful. He wants to help you succeed.
Intelligent, witty, weirdly funny, and can be brutally frank. But he brings passion to class every time and is truly sincere in helping his students succeed, explore new channels, as well as expand themselves. Definitely the best English teacher I've had. Lots of reading and writing, but that is the only way to improve.
He's a tough teacher, but I guarantee that you will learn more than you think. Also, if you do anything he says in his feedback, you will get the grade you want. You should think carefully before taking his class because you will do a lot of works during the course, and your writing skill will definitely improve.
Best class! Really great guy, and a great teacher! I would take any of his classes!
Interesting material, fun writings, and funny guy
I like Greg a lot. His class had a lot of work, but he's a fairly easy grader and flexible about due dates. I really enjoyed the technology theme and overcame my fear of research papers!
It's a study on short fiction, you're to purchase your assigned text do your readings. Also grades you on your discussions and responses to the work of others students. Papers are all double spaced, not too lengthy at all. There's a analysis essay and creative work due about every week. Work is playfulcreative, lots of feedback is given to you!
I really recommend him
Greg Bachar is kind of tough, in a good way. Expect to do your work SPECIFICALLY as instructed or risk a bad grade. He is also quite funny. He made class fun. He's my favorite English instructor.
Creative writing-Sometimes it seemed like he was making his lectures on the spot. This is not a bad thing. The class was funny, and he cultivated a community in the classroom by encouraging participation. He leaves detailed comments on turned in assignments. Even if I never get published, I know that at least Greg has read some of my work.
Wish I would have had a teacher like Professor Bachar the first time I tried taking this class.
Greg is an amazing instructor and will do anything he can to assist you. I struggled for personal reasons and stayed in contact and let him know what was going on and he totally worked with me!!! Besides that though he really is one of the best instructors I have had and he makes it interesting!! Be prepared to write and do research!
Greg is one of the best English instructors I had. He is certainly a hard grader, but his class pushes me through my limits. He is humorous but doesn't go easy on coursework at all. This is one of the hardest English classes I have ever taken, but I would take it again. He made me see my potential in writing although he did not give me an A+.
Prof. Bachar is very funny but assigns difficult assignments. Don't expect an easy A in his English 102 class. Be prepared for lots and lots of reading and writing. He is certainly a brilliant professor but if you want to get an good grade without effort, you DON'T want to take his 102 class. In his class you LEARN, but easy As are not guaranteed.
Greg is awesome. He expects you to learn something from his class, so you should be prepared to actually spending time on his assignments. 3-6 pages of writing a week, which took me a lot of time. If you have to juggle between school and work and don't have much spare time, maybe this class is not your best choice. It's a hard class, but I loved it
This is a hard class. A VERY HARD CLASS. I'm not saying that he will try to fail the whole class or anything like that, but you should really expect to submit your best work if you are planning on taking this class. He is not insane. He is a good teacher, but you'll have to think about if you will have time for HEAVY reading and writing every day.
Greg was a great professor. He can be a little animated and force awkward situations to get a point across during lecture, but he'll eventually have a point. The research process was well organized and clear guide lines were provided throughout the quarter for the benefit of the class. Follow the guide lines, take notes, and be prepared for writing
Greg Bachar was the workout I needed to see if I really liked to write academically or not. This class had a single weekly assignment, with responses to our classmates to do over the week, but it was very tough and felt intense regardless of the actual work-load. If you're looking for an easy English course, and aren't a English major, I caution u
Very respectable teacher that cares about his work and students. He really cares about his students and helps them with whatever they need. He is very funny and thorough. It is a lot of work but you will learn how to write
Very knowledgeable, quirky, funny dude. Gives AWESOME feedback on all your work and really cares about you growing as a writer. The homework load is pretty manageable as long as you keep up. The work is tough but rewarding. He is genuinely interested in being a good instructor. Would absolutely take him again. "BURN LIKE A HARD GEMLIKE FLAME!!"
I really enjoyed his class! He was very responsive with messages(very important when taking online!). He gave great feedback and I knew exactly what he was looking for because his instructions were always clear. I appreciated how quickly he got to grading!
Professor Bachar is a great teacher. He gives clear expectations for papers, doesn't overload with homework, and gives great feedback. The books he chooses for class are interesting and he really makes you think about the content. Would definitely take another one of his classes. (He also is very understanding about late work!)
There were 10 papers, roughly 48-52 pages total. The assignments were repetitive. Not sure how this course is graded. Received vague feedback at times. I think most people receive 100% on every assignment, but I'm not sure. I didn't learn much. You're on your own when analyzing works. I don't understand why there are 10 papers, but no lectures.
Taking his class wasn't easy but very worthwhile! He's very caring and inspirational! He made me trust myself and to my capabilities as a writer. I would want to take his class for ENGL102 but unfortunately, my Math class is fixed. I believe I feel strengthened now because of him and his class. He's one of the best professors ever! :)
He is one of the best Professors i had. Topics are very interesting and intriguing. I enjoyed his class, though English is my fourth language. I loved writing essays and at the end I felt improvement and satisfaction. If you work hard you will get good grades . Also, he gives useful feedbacks.
Hands down best English Prof. I think he needs a raise lmao. I took his class last year but felt obligated to rate him. He's very chill about turning in late work and still gives full points for it. Some professors need to take notes cause ... AND HE GAVE US EXTRA CREDIT WORK. My mental state was overall amazing while taking his course.

Explored a lot of interesting topics and offered great feedback on assignments. Extremely fair grader, he obviously wants his students to learn and succeed.
This man can teach a rock how to read and write.
Professor Greg is a great teacher that will prep you good for writing papers. His assignments are pretty detailed to make sure that you stay ready to read and write in his class. He's reasonable and fair with grading and lets you know if you need to fully finish the assignment so he can give you full credit. Highly recommend him for English 102!
Took ENGL120 (Digital Literature). Always gave feedback after every assignment turn in. Had a fun time exploring topics I would've never learned about outside my daily life. Assignments included a Monday activity exploring a digi-lit topic, and then a Thurs. discussion. Assignment requirements are easy to meet. A fun way to end off the year :D
took digital literature ENG 120. He is one of the best professors
There was very little instruction given by Bachar. Two days into the start of the quarter, he changed the required textbook to a text that was an annual report consisting mostly of statistics. The class was focused on researching a specific topic that culminated in a final paper. His feedback was vague and the coursework lacked a variety of texts.
Took online self-paced English 101 over the summer. Greg always gave helpful feedback after every assignment. The topics you read + write about are very enjoyable and interesting. Would definitely recommend this class if you're looking to take English 101.
I'm not sure why, but I didn't get much out of this class writing-wise. Would be a good class for students good at English seeking an easy A filler class. We focused on one topic throughout the entire quarter which got repetitive and boring to me, but it's developed well (sorta) and helps towards the final essay. Probably wouldn't take it again.
Every essay in this class was written about a non-fiction book about tech development written in 2006, so wildly outdated. It became incredibly repetitive. Mr. Bacher always gave feedback, which I generally appreciate, but I didn't find it very constructive or helpful. All in all, the class wasn't particularly difficult. But it was pretty dull.
Professor Bachar is a great writing instructor. His classes are engaging, and he provides helpful feedback to improve your skills. The workload is manageable, and he's understanding if you need extra time. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for essay prep. Overall, a solid class to take.
Digital Literature was such a cool class! I loved every bit of it, lots of fun. Greg Bachar is a really cool and interesting guy, very communicative, and I really felt seen and heard by him. He appreciates and reciprocates effort and engagement. I think I will remember him and this class forever
