At the very beginning of the class he explained how science can really be an observation of the work of a power much higher than us. He didn't use those exact words but he made an attempt to make Geography very mysterious and in need of being studied.

Not the easiest professor, but makes the stuff he teaches interesting and able to be learned. You will pass if you show up every day and turn everything in on time. Likes to joke around in class, and keep the room from getting too stiff and things from getting too dull.

Bierly is more then willing to go out of his way to explain things to a student. The lectures in class are very clear and if you don't understand you have plenty of time to ask questions and he is more then ready to listen. He actually has a sense of humor so it helps a lot with the class!!

Dr. Bierly is helpful and very knowledgeable. If you take notes, listen, study, and know what you are talking about you'll do good on tests. An A is hard to get, but attainable if you do this.

If you’re not a geography major, don't even bother with any of his classes. He doesn't explain anything well enough that it makes sense. He paces more than a caged lion, which is extremely distracting, and hands out tests that, I swear, only a weather scholar could make sense out of.

Very knowledgeable. Tries to appear a little much so when selecting some word choice. To someone outside of this major he comes off as sort of a dork. I think that he's very biased towards the females in class that actually are sort of attractive. I don't know if there's some extracurricular activity going on behind the scenes but it appears so

Oh that Dr. Bierly what Neat-O proffesor and advisor. He pretty much makes Einstein look like a moron. He sure knows about those Colorado Cyclones and he sure knows a lot of big words too. As an advisor, you sure dont' have to worry about those mean old grumps in the College of Arts and Sciences office! I give Dr. Bierly a hot tamale!

Dr. Bierly is just awesome! I would agree that he makes einstein look like a moron cuz he is pretty darn smart! His class is really interesting, but challenging if you don't know much about the atmosphere. I recommend his class, but only to those who don't mind a challenge. Also, he's a fair grader, don't expect to brown nose and get a good grade!

Take notes and study. This class is hard. Prof. is fair, and approachable. Knows subject matter inside and out, you get your money's worth for this class, which is more than can be said for a lot of classes at ISU. Highly recommended this prof for this class.

Class is soo boring, but that's because I don't care about how our atmosphere works. You can tell he knows so much about what he teaches. If you ever have a problem you can go to him. My roommate hated her 111 prof. and he let her transfer in after midterms. He is a great guy....and SO FREAKIN HOTT...he looks like McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy!! Ah!

Very nice guy. His test are kind of tricky but he seems to grade pretty easy on everything else. If I was into climate and weather more I might do better. But for an upper level GE science class, he or the class isn't that bad.

He's a very nice guy, but some people can't seem to handle the fact that he expects his students to have a little geographic knowledge. Don't come to class thinking he'll spoon-feed it to you. As long as you show up and put forth the effort, you'll get a good grade and have fun.

A very dull class! He tries to make it interesting, but fails. He only teaches it once a year, climatology is his passion. I got an A out of pure luck! Final was a take home test of "An Inconvenient Truth" by Gore! Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives much extra credit for coming!

Freaking awesome teacher..def the best I've had here yet. Pay attention to his power point notes and you'll do fine. His tests arent that hard if u pay attention and going to his review session help a lot. Again, AWESOME teacher...his jokes could use some work though

He's hands-down the greatest professor on campus, haven't found another one I enjoy nearly as much. The material was somewhat boring, but he salvaged it through his energy during class, even if it's an early one. He can even make Braveheart relevant to the material...which I have to add, he does oddly resemble the Road Warrior at times.

The material was fairly dull, but he has a knack at making it somewhat enjoyable. Attendance isn't mandatory but it definitely helps to show up most of the time. No busy work and a few, yet hard, assignments make it seem like a true college class. The tests and projects seem hard but he's an easy grader and only wants to challenge you to think.

He sincerely cares about his students. If you don't care about geography he'll make it interesting for you. The exams aren't that easy but they're multiple choice, so you have a chance. He's overall a great teacher.

Probably the best professor on campus. Such a nice guy, responds to emails very quickly and is very sincere. He cares about our grades and makes his class fun. If you look at the textbook its hella boring but he hardly ever goes to the textbook. Strongly recommend Dr. B!

Very good teacher! Very nice guy! He is willing to help you with anything! He tries his hardest to remember everyones name. Tests are semi-hard, pay attention and study. Lectures are based on a question/answer basis.

One of the most amazing teacher I have ever had. First professor in college and the first day we talked about star trek and he stood up on the teachers desk and held an overhead aloft above him to show the declination on the sun. Not bad on the eyes either.

Dr. Bierly was the first professor I had, and I could not of asked for a better professor! I really had no interest in Environmental Science but he still made the class interesting, and was willing to help you with anything. He is also a great professor to help you into the tradition from high school to college. Such a nice and sincere guy!

Dr. Bierly's the best prof I had last semester. He's a busy guy but he always makes time to talk to students who need him. He's eager to listen, you can tell he's genuine, has a good sense of humor, and is way more intelligent than he'd ever admit. The class was basic material but he kept it interesting with lots of discussions and fresh ideas. A++

I loved Professor Bierly! He was my favorite Professor and if I enjoyed science a lot, I would consider switching my major just to have more classes with him! He's easy to talk to, understanding, and super nice! If you need to take environmental science, HE NEEDS TO BE YOUR PROFESSOR!!!!!!!

Dr. Bierly is an amazing teacher. He was my first teacher and I had Envi110 with him. I once went in his office to pick up a paper and we ended up talking for like an hour about science and religion. We have vastly different views, but we didn't let that stop us from having a great intellectual conversation about our differences. It was awesome!

Lectures were amazing! He uses Powerpoints, but makes sure they're not boring. You need to read in order to join discussions, but he won't call you out to speak EVER so you don't have to join the conversation. Group work is used occasionally. Only 3-4 large tests and 3-4 (3-6 page) papers. Very clear with what will be on the tests.
