He really sucks...Everybody in school says that
brilliant man but leaves learning to be done outside of class
painfully unprepared for lectures and doesn't seem to understand questions
No Comments
good teacher--just has a problem relaying info in clear, concise means.
very smart, but does NOT teach very well. Has a hard time explaining things. Doesn't understand questions. Can be VERY rude.
This guy sux, hey can't tech at all. He knows math very well but can't tech it!

He is truly a horrid teacher, never take his classes. He doesn't give a damn about students and basically leaves the students to teach themselves.
Strange man, gets all pissy when the class doesn't ask questions, but when we do ask is very rude about answering them. Kind of an @sshole. Avoid if at all possible.
gives every opportunity to make an A and the math lab always helps and he is in there alot too.
Took material I knew going into the class and made it confusing. Lectures waayy to fast and gives to much info not necessary to understanding a topic. Withdrew from his class and I would recommend not even trying it in the first place.
Anyone who says Boudreaux doesn't care about his students clearly has not tried to ask him for help. I suck at math - I never would have passed PreCal without him. He can be confusing but when it comes down to it, if he knows you're trying and you come by to talk to him, he's very sympathetic. Great professor.
I really thought he was a good teacher. I have never taken calculus before and I feel like he explains the material well. Sometimes he gets off topic, but I don't mind the class and I'm not even interested in math. He goes through a lot of examples and takes suggestions from students.
He is awesome. But if you don't care why should he? He will spend as much time helping you as you need....the key is you have to want the help. You have to go to him. He is without a doubt the best instructor at UNCA.
He is really great. I highly recommend him. He is hard but you learn a ton from him. He is awesome to stay late in the math lab to help
I thought he was a really good instructor. I don't understand some of the other comments. He is brilliant, super prepared, helpful and really friendly. He also helps a TON outside of class.
Super helpful. Really funny. I wish I could have taken him for some other classes. Especially considering a few of his collegues.....
Very nice and willing to help. He is a little hard to follow sometimes--his lectures are fast-paced. very cute.
Difficult to keep up with and understand. Very nice and very funny. Tries to help.
Not willing to help you out, posts notes after midnight the night before class, not very clear, cannot teach very well, makes tests too long for the time allotted. Avoid this man's classes.
I bombed the first test and he offered me a retake. nice man. On the real, his scribbling is inexcusable. You can not make out any of the notes. dropped the class
Is a great man who is very helpful! He even offered help with other classes I was struggling with. His classes are great fun but also require work to be done. Easily one of my favorite professors!
Dr. Boudreaux is a nice guy, but he personifies the issue with the humanities program. He tries to make the class interesting, but his lack of knowledge makes discussions painful and unproductive. He constantly oversimplify and misses the point of material. I have heard he is an excellent math professor, but maybe humanities isn't his place.
He is a teacher I do not recommend. I took him for Humanities 124 which is mandatory but he lowered my interest greatly. He gets off on long tangents and his thoughts bounce around so fast it is hard to follow. He is a pretty nice guy just hard to understand. He gives weekly quizzes and essay based exams. You must read!
Please do not take this professor for HUM 124. He is not easily understood and rambles forever. He is very hard with tons of reading quizzes every week and essay test often. He doesn't believe anyone knows how to write an essay. Take him only if you could teach the class to yourself. He is a very nice guy though but likes to hear himself talk
Intro to the Foundations of Abstract Math: He must like teaching this course a lot because I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't like his style. He's very down to earth, patient, and helpful.
Awesome teacher. Very willing to help outside of class. Classes are fast paced and interesting.
Intro to Foundations of Abstract Math: Edit: I thought i was going to love this class- Boudreaux is a good teacher, I like the subject, I'm learning a lot, keeping up with the work, but I'm failing the class somehow... Careful with time constraints on tests! They're harsh.
It didnt seem like anyone did well in this class. He seemed to just talk above everyone's heads and move at his own pace. you have to print notes for class not posted until hours before the lecture. The work load and grading is ridiculous. Take only if you want a severe challenge.
Very Hard and Challenging Class. He mumbles a lot and the way he explains problems sometimes doesn't make sense. I would advise if you take his class to sit near the front b/c it's hard to read the chalk especially when the board is dirty and he writes small. He cares sometimes. Quizzes are open-note. Math Lab is NEEDED if you're taking his class!
Greg's very passionate about what he does, and he's a very nice gentleman; however, he sometimes gets off on "math tangents" and it's very difficult to see where he's going with it oftentimes. If you want to do well in this class, then I can't stress this enough: You NEED to go to the Math Lab.
Overall I enjoyed this class. Greg spends a countless amount of hours outside of class willing to help if you ask. He posts note outlines so attendance is crucial to getting everything. Tips: Find people you work well with and form a study group. Make sure you work the hardest problems in each section; get them checked. These will be on quiz/tests.
This class is pretty difficult. Greg is willing to spend time with you after you make a honest attempt on HW. Tips: 1) Find the smart people in the class and form a study group immeadiately! 2) Get help from Greg on your homework from the start; do not wait!! 3) Expect to spend 4-5 hours minimum on each homework assignment (1/week). -- Good Luck!
Can't read his hand writing. vague explanations that you have to go to the math lab to get help with, tests are nothing like what is prepared for. horrible. avoid. seriously.
Not good.I got an A in Calc 1 and 2 and got an F on his first test. Its better just to go to class but not listen too carefully because the book makes more sense. Can't really read his notes--they are not clear nor legible.
It's easy to space out in class, and the notes are illegible, but Dr. Boudreaux makes a major effort to help students who ask. He even gave up a Sunday afternoon to host a study session. If you ask questions in class, do every practice test, and spend time in the math lab you'll get a good grade.
boudreaux is always willing to help! if you want to learn his material, use the math lab and use him outside of class. This man is awesome!!! He wants you to excel, but if you don't try he has no problem failing you, because thats what you deserve. YOU WILL WORK HARD AND LEARN A LOT. THAT IS WHAT A GOOD TEACHER SHOULD MAKE YOU DO. BOUDREAUX ROCKS
If you don't like homework and can't learn from reading others notes do not take this class. Greg moves at fast pace and if you're a slow learner you will need the math lab. Smart man and really helpful just bad at relaying message.
Dr. Boudreaux is undoubtedly the single most inspiring academic instructor that I have ever experienced. He works diligently both in and out of the classroom, and demands for his students to do the same. It's the type of class that makes you proud to earn a good grade. If you truly want to learn, you should take him. Boudreaux is the man!!
Another semester where i learn more by youtube lectures than the actual classroom. good ol' UNCA. this guy's handwriting is horrible & his tests ask questions out of left field. avoid if you can.
Prof. Boudreaux is a great professor. He was incredibly helpful and accommodating. His quizzes come straight from the homework, and his tests are similar to boom problems. As long as you do your work, he will see to it that you receive a good grade and are ready for Calc 2.
Sloppy writing but if you listen you can figure it out, not impossible. Very condescending to students fairly often, enough to be unprofessional seems like he wants to use it to be motivational but doesn't come off that way. Clear about test, quizzes, and homework though. Tough but fair, always available outside class for help.
Very enthusiastic teacher, so I thought I would enjoy his class and learn a lot. However, he gives the most simple examples in class and in the homework, but then puts challenging questions on the tests and quizzes. Half of our class dropped out by the end of the course. He's a nice guy, but I suggest picking another teacher.
History of Math. Interesting at beginning and easy. Then the 2 projects hit us late in semester. He tends to hit hard with the big stuff (tests, projects). It wasn't terrible, but two big group papers & a physical project. Still an enjoyable elective. Also requires a couple of outside of class things at end of semester (aka MY SATURDAY TAKEN).
Boudreaux is amazing and inspiring. I can see how he can come off as condescending, but he means very well. He has a sense of humor and has fun, but not enough to where it takes away class time. Manages his time very well and is willing to stay after hours to help. If you're serious about math, take his classes.
Greg is clearly passionate about the subject and makes an effort to get students involved. Used Pearson MyMathLab, which I like for the instant feedbackhelp initially figuring out how to solve new problem types. Quirky sense of humor; likes proofs, and bring your algebra skills (it's a prereq; it was kinda sink or swim with that stuff)
Boudreaux is great! He is incredibly enthusiastic about mathematics and gets really excited in class when explaining things that sometimes he leaves out a whole section of the problem. He is a tough grader but is willing to help out. He also gives you lots of opportunities to get better grades (like test corrections!) I would recommend Greg.
I am in school to be a Math Minor and I have never had a problem in any math course until I took Boudreaux's class. He is the most difficult grader that I have ever had and he is not helpful when it comes to office hours. All homework is online and it does not reflect any problems that we completed in class. Good luck in his Calc III class.
Rushes through concepts and often does not elaborate, even after being asked by students. Very knowledgeable, but not very good at passing on knowledge or explaining his process
If you're on the fence about this professor and are reading reviews to decide how to proceed: If your math background going into Calc 2 is fundamentally solid you'll be fine. If you're taking Calc 2 after a break, or if your intermediate math isn't completely solid, find another professor. Negative feedback from other reviews is accurate.
Math has never been my favorite subject so I can't say I enjoyed this class, but the professor really knows his stuff and if you take the time to listen and do all the online homework you should be fine. He is understanding if you need help so don't be afraid to ask for it.
Greg is a great professor who really enjoys the subject he teaches. He often has a nice little history tid bit to keep things interesting. He is also hilarious, don't take him seriously or you may get your feelings hurt. If you ever need help he is more than happy to explain troublesome concepts. I hope to take him again.
Generally expects too much of calc 1 students. Goes VERY fast through lectures and doesn't stop to make sure everyone is on the same page. So if you miss a day, you better have a way to catch up. He gives a quiz almost every week but the problems are nearly impossible even with notes. Hardest tests I've ever had, lots of curve-balls.
He does understand what partial credit is and feels as though his way of getting the right answer is the only way.
Professor does not understand when students are struggling. He believes students who get bad grades are just "giving up".
Will teach you his way of doing things that have nothing to do with everyone else taking Calculus. His course convinced me that I could not do math. Test are way too hard and on stuff not covered in class.
One of the worst professors I've had. Tests are impossible and so are the quizzes even though they are open note. Moves way too fast and doesn't care about the success of his students.
I got an A in this class, but no thanks to this teacher. I invested way to much of my life into the textbook. I don't feel rewarded for my work, I feel like I got swindled by UNCA for making me do all the work myself why this guy just pumps out punishment and little help. It's like a Dark Souls boss, but with zero fun and even less reward.
He's not too bad of a teacher and I can honestly say he does try to help if you're struggling. But the two main issues are quizzes and his grading. He gives way too many quizzes. Even on weeks where we have a test, he throws in a quiz. His grading is tough as well and he is not clear as to why you got something wrong.
He says that he will help outside of class but from personal experience every time I asked for help he had other things to do, I even sent my schedule of availability to which I heard nothing from him. I will admit that he does hold office hours but you'll have to humble yourself when asking him questions; he'll belittle your judgement.
Greg is a great guy but grades everything very harshly. He teaches things his way and doesn't like to show another way to do it. Greg is the professor that is trying to show how smart he is instead of teaching the whole class. He does a lot of examples but in turn, he moves really fast. Lots of quizzes help you keep up. Very good final exam format.
Greg is a very intelligent man. As someone else said, he will belittle you for not understanding something. He moves extremely quickly through examples and doesn't do the greatest job explaining it. He can be hard to reach through email, but he is helpful if you can get one-on-one time with him in his office. Seriously harsh grader.
Class is fine, nothing to special about the teaching method. He stands up front and works out the problems to show how they are done, sometimes he works too fast and you're just left confused. The thing that makes me not want to take his class again is the fact that he is a seoriously harsh grader.
First thing Greg barley gives extra credit, obviously making math very hard and quiz/test grades very low. He is an extremely hard grader and someone impossible to reason with. He is short tempered and gets mad if you ask too many questions. He teaches extremely fast and it is quite hard to follow along. He is also very hard to email with.
I could see why some would find his class difficult. When he works problems on the board he will often skip algebraic steps that you really shouldn't expect to see at this point as you're now in calc 2. The quizzes and tests he gives are to prepare you for the midterm and final, not to punish you. Pay attention and practice and you'll do just fine.
When grading tests/quizzes, he will not factor in methodology and he will not give any insight into your mistakes. He is very hard to reach outside of class for any help, and he will spend class time working through various questions at a very fast pace, never explaining the process or logic behind the math. I got an A+ in Calc I, F in his Calc II.
He is a genius, but it does not translate well to teaching. Not good at explaining material, likes to ramble. Impatient, vague and tough grading, no extra credit, and condescending. Says there are no stupid questions but indirectly belittles the class for typical student mistakes. He will make you feel stupid. Majority of class expressed the same.
In every other math course I have ever taken, I have never made less and an A. I barely passed his class. He can't teach. He assumes you already know everything when you show up on day one. You can't ask questions in his classes because he is incredibly condescending. He is an awful professor, and I would NEVER recommend ANY of his classes.
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. He will make you cry.
I really liked professor Boudreaux. I felt like he really wanted you to understand the material and he always welcomed questions. You knew exactly what to expect as far as schedule of quizzes. Quizzes were just like notes and HW. He goes over difficult HW questions. The HW is almost always what's in the notes. I really wish I had him for Calc 2
If you are prepared to take a cal2 level course you will do very well. Classes are fairly fast paced and to the point, tests are on the easier side and there aren't very many surprises.
If you're going to take Linear Algebra, take Calc III first. It will help you imagine the things you're talking about geometrically and that will take you very far in this course. Dr. B moves fast, but certainly cares about students that are invested in the class and putting in effort to keep up. Do the reading, ask questions, and STUDY!!
He has destroyed any love I had for math. I'm scared to ask questions in class bc he yells at us and if he deems it dumb, he will tell you you shouldn't be in the class. He has to be the smartest in the room and makes you feel horrible about yourself. He should NOT be teaching and I do not understand how this university is allowing such behavior.
Dr. Boudreaux's a great professor! If you have a solid understanding of math up to this point and you put in the work, you'll do well. He is a great lecturer and the class is pretty straightforward. If I have the chance, I'll definitely take him again.
My feelings about this class are bittersweet. The material is hard because engineers and math majors NEED to understand it. The professor is passionate about his craft and cares about his students, despite what others say. The course is test-heavy, but test corrections are redeeming. Its fast-paced and requires discipline on your end to accomplish.
Dr. Boudreaux has been the best math professor I've had in my life. While his class was definitely daunting at the beginning of the semester, as time went on I enjoyed the class more and more. Make use of Dr. Boudreaux's office hours and the Math Lab if you want to be successful in this class!
Dr. Boudreaux is criminally underrated as a professor. While yes the course material is gonna be difficult when compared to most other classes, especially for students less inclined to math, this professor is passionate about the material and clearly cares about his students' understanding of the class concepts.
By far the worst professor I've taken at this school. His abysmal grading methods and condescending behavior do nothing but add more unneeded stress and difficulty to an already difficult course. It's scary how this man continues to teach without any investigation from the university. This professor destroyed any love I had for calculus.
If you do not pay attention closely in class you will have no idea what to do on tests and sometimes when I did pay heavy attention I was still confused. If you were confused and asked a question he deemed dumb he would shoot you down immediately but as long as that doesn't bother you, the class is fine. The notes were helpful and he's not terrible
if you aren't a engineer you will hate him, if you answer a question wrong he will make fun of you. He is extremely stuck up and pretentious and moves so quickly he solved the problems before I can even write them down. Another old professor that wants to flex that he's done math since 1970's and cant relate to someone seeing this for the 1st time
He doesn't really explain and just talks about how great of a math whizz he is Honestly speaking I love mathematics and I always had A grades my whole life till I had him as a teacher Not like I hate him but he is very very annoying and not understanding
Extremely difficult course. Attending SI sessions and visiting the Math Lab almost every single day is a necessity if you want to pass this class. Tests are difficult, not many opportunities to retake or improve on past test grades. He's a funny guy, but he is not a great teacher. I recommend taking another professor's class.
A real a-hole
Ditto to all of the below 1 start ratings, in attitude, teaching style and behavior. I can't come up with any positives.
He's definitely a hard grader and you need to pay attention during class or be able to read his handwriting on the notes he posts. He feels condescending if a question is repeated or if the answer is able to be found in the syllabus. He's very open with office hours and other methods to get help in the class so make sure to take advantage of them.
please no he literally couldnt get me to grasp precalc
Genuinely unlikable person in general. Makes easy concepts difficult to understand and doesn't offer many notes or outlines to go by. Everything is timed, he's also rude when you answer wrong because "you should've learned this in 8th grade." Doesn't use moodle, only google drive and when you ask for your grade he will make you calculate it
worst experience i've had in a college class thus far
Took a single class with him before immediately dropping. I've never encountered a teacher that was so disrespectful. He spoke extremely fast and bragged on himself half the class. When I went to ask a question and explain my situation he spoke over me, didn't let me finish, and was oddly passive aggressive. Beware.
He's obviously a math genius and is clearly a bit frustrated with having to teach lower level classes (precalc in my case). He teaches at a very brisk pace and if you can't keep up with him, there is plenty of outside help available, and he also has good office hours. In short, don't take him if you don't think you're able to keep up.
