I do not reccomend him. He is incredibly harsh when grading papers. He does not seem to care at all about his students. His work is hard and he is not willing to help. If you ask questions he will tell you to refer to the syllabus and you never receive a clear answer.
Mr. Garner does a good job of outlining his expectations. Learning of the course material is mostly self-directed, but Mr. Garner conducts class activities to reinforce the readings. He is clear on what he considers a good essay, and what he considers a bad essay; a wise student will adhere to the standards laid out in the CTC writing rubric.
Mr. Garner expects you to write on a college level because surprise...you are in college! Anyone who says that he is not helpful either did not show up to class, or did not stay to take advantage of the class time given to work on the essays. He would only say, "look at the syllabus" when a question was asked that should have been known.
If you are a masochist then you will be fine. This teacher will bring out the best in you, because he is a sadist. Enjoy your English Pain!!!!
Mr. Garner is a great teacher and person, but he is also very tough. If you are in college to goof around or half do things, he is not the teacher for you. If you are willing to put all your effort into your essays, then you will do absolutely fine.
Garner was a wonderful teacher. He tells you right off what he does not like and gives handouts to help you. Yes you have to do work but this is college not high school. He gives you ample time to do the work and prepare for tests. If you pay attention to his comments on your papers and improve them you should do fine. I worked hard and got an A.
He is a good teacher, but tough especially when greding papers
He is a good teacher, and I worked very hard in his class and got a 99 on my first paper. On the next paper I made an honest mistake and recieved a 0. He is very harsh in grading, even if you're a good student and work hard.Only take his class if you absolutely HAVE to. I had to drop his class even though I had put a lot of time and effort into it.
helpful, harsh on grading papers, but just follow his instructions and you'll do good, real strict. I don't highly recommend him unless you have to take his class.
Mr. Garner is a increadably gifted teacher. He is VERY strick when it come to hims paper requirements, so if you are lazy don't take his class. He explains exactly what he expects at the beginning of the semester, and expects nothing less than that. His class is informative and interesting, but if you expect a free ride, hes not the teacher for you
very strict and very mean. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS !!
He is a hard teacher, but as long as a student goes to him for help and guidence in writing your papers he is more than helpful. If your desire s to make and A in his Class and you show the effort and work to make the grade..he will help you you succeed in that effort. just ask him for help..and what you can do to your paper to make a good grade..
Took him for English 1101, he is not a hard or difficult teacher if your are willing to learn and work hard. Textbook use is a must and most of the quizes are based off of reading of the chapters! Do not slack on the homework or you will fail! Also, be mindful that he will not read an essay if the requirements are not met- such as MLA format.
I took Mr. Garner this year and I will say he is a tough teacher, but if you work hard you will do fine. I made A's on all my papers and he has no problem helping you with them if you try. This is not a class for a slcker! A's are earned in his class. I actually enjoyed his class because it he brought out writting in me I didn't know I had.
While Mr. Garner is a very smart man and he will work with a student to rewrite a failed paper, it is very hard for him to change his opinion on something. When a cited quote with no double-quotes (""), even when the quote is proven as a paraphrase, he is unwilling to change the score of the paper, instead suggests you fix it by direct quoting.
First essay a 0. His comment as to why was, you did not send as an attachment. You can read the posting on the discussion board, however; a small, fixable technical error resulted in a zero. Horrible online class, do not take it. When a teachers first words to a class is negative, and grade threatening, there is an issue.
If you want a challenge, take Mr. Garner. He shows what should and shouldn't be in a paper. So if you put things in a paper that shouldn't be in there, you'' get a low score. I got a 60 on the first paper, and passed all the others with with hard work and showing up every day. I took him for 1102 also and got an A. understand what he wants.
Mr. Garner is FANTASTIC!! He basically tells you exactly what you need to write in your papers to get an A. He makes class interesting, with a not so interesting subject. If you show up, do your work, and accept his help, you should have no problem getting an A.
I took his 1101 class and am now in his 1102 class. If you try he will work with you. Just make sure not to have any of his "major editing errors" on essays.
Great class! Mr. Garner is very organized and methodical with his classwork and homework. You know exactly what to expect. All readings are reviewed and explained. Definitely attend the optional writing conferences, never made below a 95 on an essay. Definitely read everything assigned you will be quizzed. Very nice guy!
Took his class summer semester online. Very critical on grading homework and essays. Gives too many assignments every week, hard to complete all of them on time if you take more than one class or work, or both like me. He does offer help with editing essays.
Mr Garner is a very harsh Grader and will give you a failing grade for very little reasons.
I advise any who is struggling with writing, DO NOT take his class. Garner is very strict on his essays and does not give much clarity on the grammar rules he follows. Also when he leaves constructive comments on the essays, he makes grammatical errors..kind of a hypocrite for someone who grades papers so harsh. Don't put your GPA at risk!!!!!!
This was by far one of the worst instructors I have had. I received a zero for one error and was told he didn't read the rest of the essay due to it. I nearly failed the class for small errors. When I emailed him about questions I got short answers that we're not helpful. I would advise anyone who struggles with writing to avoid this class.
I do not recommend you to take him if you have any trouble when it comes to writing essays. He is very confusing & does not grade papers the same way every time. He will not explain what you do wrong & will not help you at all.
Mr. Garner is a wonderful instructor. If you follow directions, take notes and turn in your work on time, you'll make an A. Students do complain that he's too harsh...only because they usually plagiarize essays, don't turn work in on time or put very little effort into the class--this is college, not high school. Wonderful teacher!!!
If you listen in class and go to the writing conferences every essay you will do fine. Make sure you read the assigned homework pages in the textbook. I learned a lot about writing essays the right way in his class. He knows what he is doing and is very serious about grades. I thought he was a very good teacher that actually teaches!
Mr.Garner is an outstanding instructor. All you need to do is read your homework and take time on your essays. He will quiz you on your homework! If he sees that you are really trying he will help you.
He takes off for crazy things, like grammer, spelling, punctaution and organization. Even if you write on the wrong topic. He doesnt give you a passing grade, just for trying. Tough instructor.
This was the only class I've taken at CTC where I learned a lot. Mr. Garner was outstanding. My writing has improved great. He's tough, but college is suppose to be tough. I would recommend him if you're interested in really learning.
He doesn't care if you succeed or not. Gives a ton of work and a lot of essays. Grades the essays hard and expects you to do them perfectly. Yes, this is an English class, but it's 1101. Don't take this professor online!
He couldn't care less about you. He expects you to do everything perfectly the first time. I don't like him. Make sure to go to the classes where he will read your essay and critique it.
He was an excellent English teacher. Yes, he mainly cares about writing essays, but that is what the class is about. He let us email our (final draft ready) essay to him at the beginning of the week it was due in order to get feedback. If you took advantage of that, you could correct mistakes and have an A. Answered emails promptly. Big help!
The best instructor I've had. He's helpful and intelligent. Students who do poorly have been spoiled by other really easy teachers at this school. I only wish Mr. Gardner taught other types of courses because I like his teaching style and high college standards.
If you struggle with English do NOT take his class. He gives essays to write and doesn't give you enough time to do them. When it comes to his grading style, it is never the same. I failed most of my papers in his class because of simple mistakes like not having my margins correct. He is very strict. Do not take his class if you have other options.
I took him as a transient student last summer, and I learned a lot. My professors at KSU compliment me on my writing and its all because of him. He is always available for help and he's freindly. Students who complain about his grading should really thank him for trying to make them better writers.
I am not the best writer, but I am by far not the worst. He does not read the actual paper, but rather nit-picks at it looking for anything and everything to mark off for. I have help from someone that has a very successful job in marketing and journalism look over my paper, but yet Mr. Garner always finds something. Please look for someone else.
He is very picky about the way he grades his essay if your not a good writer I would not suggest this class for you at all. He finds the littlest things to take off point on your essays. I would not recommend him to anyone. WORST PROFESSOR EVER.
He is the worst professor I have ever had. He does not even read your paper. When you ask him about you paper he tells you go back and look at the comment that were made. I would not recommend anyone to take his class.
Garner is a great professor. Learned a lot from his class. He teaches what he expects so pay attention and if you have questions just ask. You have 4 papers total and a final. You have books that are required but I opened mine maybe twice. However, the quizzes have maybe 2 out of 8 questions from the readings. Work for your grade. Helps you a ton!
Mr, Garner is the hardest English class I' ve ever taken. You will have papers that don't have a rubric. He has to grade every paper differently in my option. If your are bad with grammar DO NOT I repeat DO NOT take this class you will not pass. He takes points off for everything.
He is a tough teacher and likes to consider everything plagiarism. I would not take his class ever again. He failed me twice.
You'll learn a whole lot, but you have to WORK! He holds one class every paper where he can help you with it individually. He tells you what to fix, how easy and helpful is that. If you can't do well on the essays, your just not trying and your not college material.
Mr. Garner is very professional, organized, and helpful. His online course looks a lot better than most professors, and he's always telling students to contact him for help (though, I don't think many do). He gives four papers and several smaller assignments, that are easy if you read the directions and avoid text language.
He expects you to know grammar and to follow his instructions to do good on papers. He doesn't give you good grades--you have to work for them. He tells you all of this before the papers are due and repeats these directions over and over again. If you don't pass then college isn't for you.
He gives you 4 essays to write and he helps you with each, if you ask for help. He gives a lot of help on the announcements page too. The final is only 5% but it's very easy. I'd take him again.
He grades very hard and does literally look for things to be wrong in your essay. I am a good writer and that is the only reason I got a good grade in his class, if you can find I better teacher please DO IT!!!
Great teacher. VERY HARD grader. Only take class if you like writing. Class has 4 papers, 1 test, and all quizzes are pop quizzes, but don't count for much of final grade. Allowed to redo or submit late 1 paper only.
Mr. Garner is a nice instructor. He is very helpful when it comes to essay writing. Always emphasized to contact him early if you need help, but also lets you know when he isn't going to check his emails. The only thing I don't like is on one of the writing conference classes we had, he walked out before 12:30. Class is over at 1:10.
terrible feedback, does not tell you what you did wrong, very general.
Mr. Garner expects you to give him your best effort - no exceptions. You must be willing to spend the amount it takes to achieve excellence. Several discussion boards that you must post to. If you think that a few words are going to cut it, think again! I spent upwards of two hours on each peer review. Grading criteria is clear so no surprises.
Mr. Garner is the best english teacher i've ever had. He will sit down with you and go through your paper and blatantly point out what he would count off for, THEN HE LETS YOU FIX IT. If you take advantage of this every time it's offered and don't be an idiot and copy/paste your essay you make a super easy A.
He is great. Recommend him definitely.
I enjoyed this class. He is very enthusiastic and wants everyone to learn.
He expects the best out of you and you will leave his class being a much better writer.
I took this class online last semester. He is enthusiastic about writing, willingly helps students, and gives the neatest assignments.
took this class online last semester. He is enthusiastic about writing, willingly helps students, and gives great assignments.
Instructor Garner is a good teacher. if you are taking this course to make an A, then be ready to study real hard. His homework will take you not less than 3 hours for one discussion board. If you want to be perfect in English language, take him. if you want to pass, DONT take him.
He's great, because his assignment directions were clear and he gave lots of individual help on the papers. There are four papers, he will help you clean up the papers before you turn them in. Also you can revise one for a new grade. I wish he taught more subjects then English.
I hope he is teaching more English classes. I had him for ENGL1101. He is very helpful and tells you exactly what he wants you to do. I hate writing, but he made it a lot easier.
He has high expectations of students; he is also knowledgeable, encouraging, and excellent teacher, and extremely helpful. What more can you expect from an English professor?! I highly recommend him. He is one of the best teachers at Chat Tech!
I struggle with writing and literature, but had NO problems with this class. He gives clear instructions on papers, very organized, and makes things easy to find in Blackboard Learn. If you are looking for a great English teacher, take him. Again, I struggle with English with a passion, but he was so encouraging and helpful.
Despite what most of my classmates said, I adored Professor Garner. His tough grading criteria was exactly what I needed to excel. He gives great feedback before you even turn in a paper, so there is no excuse to fail. I think this class is a great introduction into what the rest of college is like. I'm even taking his other class next semester!
He's a great professor. No complaints. He wants you to succeed. Highly recommend.
Garner is a hard teacher, but that's what makes him amazing. He cares about his students and how well they do, he leaves great feedback, and he grades very strictly. You'll learn a lot from his classes.
do not show up late, do not use your phone. He gives you everything you need to pass. Will provide notes/links every week. Iwould have had the same grade without the textbook. he is a fair grader and if you learn from your mistakes, listen and take advantage of the material you will do well.
He is a great teacher , but he grades VERY VERY hard ! Attendance is recommend for this class but if you follow along and study you will do fine. He want to make you a better writer . He grades paper very hard and is a stickler for grammar and format . I would not recommend him , nor would i take his class again .
Mr. Garner was a good teacher from my perspective. He was always very clear and answered questions clearly and concisely. His grading techniques were the same for each of the 4 papers and always held writing conferences on the 2nd class day of the weeks papers were due. Other weeks most of the second class days were optional. Definitely recommend.
Mr. Garner's course was designed well, alot better than most professors. His expectations and materials were clear. He was always there to help me with my essays. There were 4 essays, and some discussion boards and quizzes. I would take him again because I learn soooo much.
I had an awesome semester with this professor. He does have clear expectations and wants students to do well. I highly recommend him.
It was not hard at all! I actually had fun in an English class. I highly recommend him, especially if you are taking online.
It was an easy class for me and writing is not my strength. He has a great Blackboard Learn course. You have no problems finding information. He also has a clear grading criteria, and gives wonderful feedback on his assignments. The assignments are very interesting and you should do well if you keep up with reading.
As a MOWR student, this was an excellent semester for me. I had a great English teacher and an awesome math teacher. This teacher made class enjoyable. He also has clear expectations and grades fairly. Easy class for me! Highly recommend.
Absolutely the best Prof I ever came across at CTC. Very precise and prompt. Grading rubrics are very clear and he posts updates regularly. You will write 4 essays, few quizzes, and the final. He is available to go thru your essay before submission. I'll take him again if I ever need to.
Mr. Garner is straightforward and blunt. There are four essays, 4 quizzes and a final. Most of your time will be spent on writing the essays and you get three weeks to write them. Easy A if you do well on the essays and final. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!!!! I have never once opened the book. trust me. I really only went on days he talked about the essays.
This is such an enjoyable class. The teacher is very knowledgeable and grades fairly. The assignments are very interesting and enjoyable. My writing has improved. I highly recommend this teacher.
To my surprise, it was actually a great class. I thought English classes would be suffocating but this professor makes it very easy to love reading and writing. I took my first class with him this summer, and plan to take another class with him next semester!
Highly recommend this prof. Had a great time this semester!
He is not helpful at all.
I took Mr. Garner this past Spring 2017 semester. He is very knowledgeable, fair, and organized. I learned a lot from him. He is not only a good professor, but he also cares about the students. As someone who has returned to school after 10 years (and does not like writing), I can say that it was an extremely delightful experience.
This class definitely made me better at writing. It was hard, but worth it. I would definitely recommend him if you want to be a better writer.
Professor Garner was a good teacher. He gives you everything you need every week. Hes very organized. The downfall is he is a very very tough grader. Make sure you have almost perfect grammar for every essay given. Hes easy to email but very strict.
He is very clear about what he wants.
Easy A. I enjoyed this class. Just ask for help and he is willing to help you. And easy.
I've never struggled so hard in a literature class, his grading technique is on another scale. I received 50's on papers and his feedback was bland. I went to class although it was NOT mandatory and asked for feedback with my papers. He is not helpful and he is unrealistic. Literature is not this difficult, but with him you will fail!
You have to write a 750-page essay once a week for 16 straight weeks. He gives tons of extra credit and will answer his office phone on Saturday and Sunday nights. There is one big diorama project for the midterm, and he grades everything on a curve, but you can talk him into a better grade; he likes when students do that.
It was a web enhanced course but we barely used computers. You can't type your essays, they have to be handwritten, in pen and in cursive, or he won't grade them. The essays (their are 3 total) are only a paragraph or two at most. Many times, I just wrote two sentences total and got A's. I learned a lot about APA documentation.
He gives you four essays, a few discussion boards and a few quizzes. If you read the material and apply that to your work, you should do good. I learned a lot because he was very helpful.
4 essays in total and this professor was horrible. I wish I was able to have something positive to say about him but I really do not. He is accessible to reach however his feedback for me was always bland. VERY DIFFICULT GRADER. I would not say the textbook was mandatory.
He gives alot of useful handouts and lectures that prep u for the assignments. He even will help & review your papers with u before you turn them in. If you do the work, try to learn, you should be fine. I will take him again in 1102 definately.
Although I do find him attractive, he is a very tough grader. Easy to email and very organized. If Blackboard is down he will give some extra time to turn in homework. Very strict on grammar errors. 10/10 hot. 5/10 professor. He does give a lot of information on what you need to know for the class, but his grading is bland and hard to understand.
I took his online ENGL 1101 class. This was NOT a good experience for me. Since I was homeschooled, I wasn't able to get much chances to write essays. The essays I wrote for this were cringe-worthy but he was a HARD grader. Maybe it was the perspective I had, but he isn't the best teacher out there. I barely passed this class. Wouldn't recommend.
Thought I would take English online and get at least a B. He is a tough grader. The essays he assigns are bland and difficult to write anything interesting about because again, BLAND. You have to really pay attention to what he is asking for in an assignment or you will get a ZERO. I used to love writing but this class brought out bad writing in me
I had to take his class twice. I didn't take it seriously the first time and failed. The second time I passed because I read the files and worked with him on my writing. Every week there's stuff that preps you for the work. He gives you 7 days for each assignment. He's certainly tough but I learned alot.
Very tough professor. His essay topics are bland so you won't have much fun on writing essays. Just be on top of your work and should be fine.
At first I thought it was a difficult class until I realized if you just follow his instructions on homework, and do what is asked of you, you will receive an A. He is strict when it comes to deadlines and he is very fast getting the grades in, like a day or two. I learned a lot in his class.
In my perspective as a online student, he is not a bad teacher. His tests and quizzes are timed. If your an online student make sure to have good connection wifi. If you need help just email him answers if something goes wrong with blackboard login email him!!! His essays are easy. Study your grammar notes. There is NO EXTRA CREDIT!!
A great experience for my first DE class. The people who failed didn't do the discussion boards, they may not be worth a lot but they can either help or hurt your grade. Attendance is not mandatory but if you go to the writing conference it is almost impossible to fail an essay because he tells you what to fix.
The reason I put attendance as mandatory is that this man is petty and bitter. You will learn absolutely nothing in his class, but he will only pass you if you show up and listen to him ramble on about nothing for a whole class period. He does not grade fairly. I once had him edit my paper and still got a C on it.
I just did the no show assignment and turned nothing else in the entire quarter and I got an A. You can just do the work you want and whatever grade you have for those assignments, he'll give you that grade. Don't believe all the 0s he puts down for the missed work. He'll delete those by the end of the term and you'll easily pass.
He makes it very difficult to pass his class. He told us that he would try to fail us. I had him edit a paper for me and he gave me a C on it. He is critical with his grading. He assigns pointless homework that has nothing to do with the criteria. He does not prepare you for tests. He does not give sufficient time to complete tests.
His paper directions and expectations are clear. He helped me clean up my essays and I earned As on all the papers and really write much better. Only half the students show up to class but he warns them it would effect their grades. Definately a knowledgeable and helpful instructor. I don't know why he teachs here though.
Took the English 1101 class during the Summer. You have to cram 16 weeks worth of work into 8 weeks. He does respond to emails, and you can send your rough drafts to him for review before they are due. There were multiple quizzes that were TIMED! I honestly think he grades too tough on essays. 3 major essays.
He provides clear instructions and is no-nonsense. If you read the instructions carefully and follow them, you will do great in his class. If you have questions or concerns, simply reach out to him. He gives very good feedback.
Great for ENGL 1101. Recommend!
Little to no feedback on papers, will fail you on a 15% grade because of word count.
He will fail you if your lazy and don't follow directions. Gives tons of feedback on papers and even helps with your paper before you turn it in. Straightforward professor. If you fail his class, then maybe college isn't for you. Easy.
hes alright. hates cell phones
Everything is online and it was really easy. I would recommend his summer course.
He is not a bad teacher, he is just a really tough grader. Only take him if you are absolutely sure that you can handle his class.
I do not advise his online class. He is not a bad teacher but he is a really hard grader. with his online class everything is self thought. You can send him your essay for editing but many of his comments are not the most helpful. Just a heads up for anyone wanting to take his online class, you basically have to figure out everything on your own.
Easy A. I took him last Spring Semester and I never made anything lower than an A except on the final exam. Do all the work, read the assignment directions, and get an A. He even reviews papers for you! Will take for ENG 1102.
Interesting professor. Took his 1101 & 1102 classes. Easy enough with a little work put in. He allows you to come by his office to receive feedback on your paper before turning it in, which is very helpful.
I've never had such a rude instructor as this man. Easily the most narcissistic, non-caring, and least cooperative instructor at this school. Do not dare come in more than a minute late, because you will be chastised in front of the class. There are times where he makes everyone close their computers to ensure that they are listening 100% to him.
A great professor who cares about his students. He simply wants you to do well, is willing to help, has high expectations of students, and wants students to also have high expectations of him. And his Blackboard Learn is super-organized!!! I recommend him!
Follow his instructions and you can pass the class. He does his best to catch you up on the grammar you don't know before you start writing essays. Good professor. Teaches you English. Doesn't need to be liked.
I retook this class to try and make an A. I made a B the first time when I took it at another college, and this class is NOTHING like a normal ENGL 1101 class. I felt like I was in journalism not a basic writing class. Hes a very hard grader and will take multiple points off for few grammatical errors. Very hard online class, do not recommend
Terrible teacher, he should really be fired. 0/5 stars. Avoid his class if you want a decent GPA average.
Lots of papers and grades them like you're a PhD student.
This is the only review you need to read. Pick another professor, if you don't, you'll be saying to yourself, "Why didn't I listen?".
Really tough grader, very strict
He gives awful essay topics and grades your paper like you are a english grad student. He offers to review your paper and if you incorporate the feedback you still get a C lol. Pick another professor who does not purposely make English 101 difficult.
You write one essay each month, a few quizzes, and a few discussion boards too. He's very helpful, you just have to do all the work he gives you each week and you'll get an A.
Greg Graner only gives papers and grades everything like you are a professional author. I do not recommend this course (unless you are a professional author). Does not care much about students and grades way too tough. Please, listen to me and do NOT take his course. Maybe there is a reason he only has around 10 students in his basic english course
Garner is an awful teacher. He just reads off of powerpoint slides for his lecture. Heavy workload, but not crazy for an english class. He grades terribly. He marks off for every little thing. I would not recommend taking him if its one of your first college classes. He's really difficult to talk to and thinks he's right 100% of the time.
He is a very laid back down to earth person. I took his class in the summer and it was a breeze. There is one discussion board per week and three essays. He will tell you that you need a text book but we didn't use it at all. All quizzes are short and online. They are also timed and same for the tests. I definitely recommend him.
I've had the pleasure of taking 5 outstanding professors this semester. Mr. Garner is one of them. Not only did I enjoy his class, but I am also a better writer. He is very enthusiastic and extremely organized.
Prof. Garner is a very very hard grader! He gave very easy essay topics though. I would not recommend unless you can write a paper and have absolutely no grammar errors. He lets you send him your paper a week before it is due however it does not help- I sent him every paper I wrote and still failed EVERY SINGLE ONE. The final was easy however.
He made me a better writer. His class work is challenging, but easy if you follow directions and work hard. I'd take him again. He's very knowledgable and easy to talk to.
Literally the most noncommunicable teacher Ive ever had.
Seriously not a bad professor at all. All the reviews make him seem terrible but the class is pretty easy. He is very straight forward and will help you. As long as you are an average student that goes to class and you do all course work you will receive a good grade!
Instructor Garner assigns a reasonable amount of work including essays, a couple of discussions, and quizzes. However, he grades essays very strictly. I went from an A to a C in a month because of a few grammar errors I made in two essays. I don't recommend this class unless writing essays is your strongest skill.
Mr. Garner is a good teacher. He is clear about what he wants and simply expects us to act like adults and live up to it.
Grammar is his number one priority i swear he literally told me y structure and organization was amazing critique me on one or two grammar errors and sent me on my way and when i submitted the essay i get it back with a D mind you i went to the writing center. The quizzes are timed Im talking 7 mins for 20 questions
If you are lazy, this class is not for you. Thanks to Professor Garner I have succeeded in all of my classes. I honestly learned so much from him when I was dual enrolled at CTC. I am now at a University and I cannot stress enough how easy it is for me to write essays. I took him for both ENG1101 and 1102. 4 essays each semester. He's very helpful!
Professor Garners class can be difficult at times, but he is a GOOD professor. Get ready to write! You have at least four essays, have to proof read other students papers, post to discussion boards, and complete a good amount of homework. Everything seemed a bit overwhelming at first, but if you failed his class its because you didnt TRY.
Gives quizzes but barely any time to do them you have to panic through the whole thing, also he is very strict when grading papers
This professor is very hard. Gives little to no feedback when grading papers and expects you to know. Very hard, would recommend another professor. Very unprofessional
If you work hard, youll pass. He gives several essay a with excellent feedback. He will even help you on the papers. Its tough but once you apply your self its pretty easy.
This guy easily was the worst professor I have had. Gives little to no constructive feedback on papers just basically throws it in your face and says that you should already know it. I failed his class because of an issue that was not of my own, and he showed no remorse. I provided proof of this, especially since it was the final. He did not care.
I learned so much. Hes challenging but it is college and he expects us to be responsible and accountable for our actions. Go to the writing meetings. His great feedback meant I never made lower than a 92 on the essays. Easy.
Gives impossibly hard assignments. Gives failing grades despite doing EXACTLY what he tells us to do. My family relative had complained about his methods and he went after my grades for it. In the end I had to leave the course. Do not take his class, there are clearly more professional instructors.
Garner was great. I took him twice. The class before when essays are due hed spend the time reviewing and editing papers. I barely tried and made a high B. He asks to not be on your phone. He always ends class early and attendance isnt a grade. I highly recommend him
He definitely is difficult and I had to drop the class. Took him once before and passed with a high a, but this time he failed me before I dropped. Did exactly what he asked of me and still was failing.
DO NOT take this class with this teacher if you want to pass. Teacher is unfair with grading. Has no care for what is going on in outside life. someone close to me died and he did not give extension on final. Said "give me notice in advance." How do i know a week in advance that my friend is going to die? Terrible teacher WOULD NOT TAKE HIM AGAIN!!
The teacher gives minimal feedback on essays. Does not respond with helpful information when contacted. If you have even a singular tiny error in your MLA formatting he will give you a ZERO in that section of the rubric. Clearly doesn't grade the entire essay and just expects you to know why he thinks you are wrong, despite being incorrect himself
He is so easy. There are three essays, a few discussion boards and he helps you with each of them 1 on 1. Gives any deadline extension if you ask for them and even gives extra credit if you ask too. Super easy.
Not lenient at all I was 3-4 words off 1,000 word rough draft essay and was given a 0. He does not care for his students, no feed back on anything until he puts a solid F on a paper. You're set up to fail especially on essays. Do not take his class unless you have already graduated with your ENGLISH TEACHING DEGREE!
He's pretty easy, if you follow directions. He offers to look over your paper, before you turn it in, so there's no excuse not to get a A. He talks a lot about grammar and mla and plagiarism. If you plagiarize your paper, he'll give you a zero. Just follow directions & you'll be fine. I learned so much. Great professor!!!
This man is brutal. He will take 50 points off peer revision if your comments are missing punctuation. Minor grammatical errors result in an instant F on a final draft. He fails to follow his own guidelines laid out on the syllabus in regards to the discussion posts. Save your time, and your sanity. Do not take any of his classes.
I wont lie, hes tough. I had to work for my C, but I learned SO much. He gives u everything u need to do well so do ALL the work, not just the parts for a grades. He has high standards and it shows. Great!
This class should have been an easy A, but the professor loved to fail assignment for the smallest things. Just a few grammar errors was half points off of my essay. He will not let any little mistake go by him. nothing is never good enough for him. I would never take tgis professor ever again or suggest him to anyone i know.
He is literally the worst teacher ever. Takes off for the smallest thing, he does not care for anything. Do not take him!!
Hes tough. Hell grade your papers based on the rubric he gives so prepare to read and take the clase serious. He takes off big points for comma splices, run ons , and fragments. Hes hard but I think Im better at writing.
The man grades your paper as if you were a doctoral candidate. Every small error would be -7 points. The essay topics are absolute garbage. Every essay has to do with the school and you can only write so much about CTC. Your true potential is limited when you have to write a 1500-2000 word essay on why people chose to study at the Paulding campus.
Professor Garner grades very strict, but he is a great professor. We had 4 papers during the semester, he gives the topics to choose from they all had to do with school. He will review your paper before turning in the final draft to give extra feedback. If you correct all feedback & do all the weekly assignments you will pass the class. I got an A
His course was challenging and VERY organised. If you do the work like he asked, its hard not to pass and do well. He gives 1 on 1 help with essays. I took him for 1101 and sailed thru 1102 and 2130. Highly recommended.
Very frustrating to learn from. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so wordy. I wanted to bang my head so many times while reading the assignments, which are just packets. Assignments are stretched out too much for topic essays. Doesn't give feedback until a final essay is graded. TLDR, too much unnecessary stress for a Google level-based packet class.
Mr. Garner. Wow! He is full of knowledge and he has a dry sense of humor which was hilarious. His class is challenging, but you will make an A if you do everything he asks. He also lets you re-submit an essay of your lowest grade.
English is my best subject, but my grade was absolutely slaughtered by Garner. I've never taken a harder English class. This man takes points off for the MOST miniscule things, despite the content you write being correct. DO NOT RECCOMEND.
Professor Garner is a terrible professor. He is rude, sarcastic and does not give feedback on essays unless you email him to do so. He wants you to fail his class. He takes off points for the smallest things and he gets upset for doing his job as a teacher. He should no longer teach at Chat Tech. He makes learning English a miserable experience.
He was a great online teacher. There were 4 essays and you get 3 weeks to work on each 1. He gave example papers for each style. He gave personalized feedback before and AFTER you turned them in. He responded that quickly to emails but you have to work to do well. I can write and study better because of him!!!
Professor Garner definitely wants things done a specific way. Look over the handouts he gives you and ask for feedback before submitting essays and you should be fine. Do not wait last minute to complete his assignments and make sure you complete the weekly assignments because they do lock at midnight on Sunday and become inaccessible.
I had to work hard for my C. He gives you so much material to help you with the papers and is available to talk Monday thru Friday only. If you do what he says youll pass. The final exam and no-show were easy.
Good. Nice and helpful.
Do not take his class. 100% wouldnt recommended.
I took him this summer. Make sure to read and do EVERYTHING because knowing that stuff will help you with the essays you write. 3 essays, some quizzes. He reviewed my paper every time before I turned them in. Gives great 1 on 1 help. Super easy.
Hes the closest to a real professor youll get at Chatt Tech. He has high standards for his students, & you learn a lot. He helps you with each of the 4 papers and lets you fix one paper. I am happy to walk away with a low A, because it was a challenge.
Mr. Garner is a great professor. before taking his class, I read some awful comments and was scared at first. But today, I won't regret taking him. Just do what he is asking you to do.
This isnt the hardest class. Its truly not as hard as he makes it out to be to scare the pants off traditional students that may need counseling while in this course. I understand that someone is upset for not getting a phd for participation. But thats not my problem. Cheers!
He is hard for a tech college professor, but I learned SO much. Youre never not busy each week. There are 4 papers, some quizzes and discussion boards. You just have to pay attention and do whta he says. Will definitely take him for 102.
Tough but a doable class where you learn a lot. Good at answering emails but not in the weekends. Gives helpful comments and help on your papers. I made as on all my papers but the ones I read in the DBs posted were pretty bad. Hes not that hard but if your a bad student, yes youll fail
Good. He taught me the usual college writing stuff. Make sure to check your spellings on the discussion boards and never asked to turn late work in.
We had an essay every couple of weeks, but they were pretty easy.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. he is a VERY tough grader. he failed me i could not graduate high school. he is not helpful at all. please drop this class as soon as you can
A real college teacher. Four essays, few discussion boards and quizzes. He offers to work with you on your papers before you turn them in. No way to fail. The course is nice in black board and he emails quickly but no weekends.
Professor Garner and I have gotten into multiple email arguments. His instructions for his essays are extremely vague. Garner needs to work on his speaking skills and know that he is talking to people who are sensitive. I would not advise anyone to take his class.
His online class has 4 essays, some discussion boards and a few quizzes. All u need to pass is there, he answers emails quickly, he reviews your essays for u before turning it in. I have signed up for his next course, because I like how he teaches
Does not give clear feedback or directions. Does not answer emails.
Instructor Garner graded the essasy very tough but does give an opportunity for him to proofread papers. Lets students revise one essay at the end of the semester for a better grade. He was not very personable and always seemed to have an attitude when emailing him.
He grades very harsh and his directions are very vague. He does not reply to emails and when he does he always has an attitude with you and is not nice. He does offer a redo on one of your essays at the end of the semester. Read all his assignments it's very important if you want to understand his revisions on your essays.
He Grades harshly, but he does allow you to send your Essays in for him to review. However, sometimes he would says that I didn't fix a problem he marked in an essay, when I did. He also always has an Attitude In emails.
He certainly wants you to learn. There were four essays and he gave you time to work on them in class and he helped us each with the papers. He reviewed them before we submitted them so that we earned good grades. Quizzes were easy. Final was very easy.
His class wasn't hard but he is a strict grader. Also, his due dates are final with no exceptions. There was a heavy storm and it knocked my wifi out for a whole day, I missed an assignment deadline and he gave me a zero, though I turned it in as soon as I could. He is strict when it comes to grading essays.
By far, my FAVORITE teacher at Chatt Tech. Essays are easy to write, because he gives very clear instructions on how to get a good grade. He cares about his students. He also allows students to send him their paper to review before submitting it. He also tells you what he enjoys about your paper, and what to look out for in the future.
I absolutely LOVED Mr. Garner! He was my favorite teacher by far and was such an easy class. The classes are optional and he gives plenty of time to work in class. He lets you come in on Wednesdays so he can review your essays and he will directly tell you what you need to do to get an A. His essays are easy and so are all his quizzes and homework
the only content was pdfs & he didn't mark the full paper. there was 0 instruction and the campus tutors never had availability. he was ADAMANT in the syllabus about not contacting him for help and to use the scant resources on blackboard instead. syllabus said he would track how long you spent on the page. you had SECONDS to answer test questions.
Mr. Garner is nice in person, but he gives too many writing/reading assignments weekly and is very strict on grading them. If your discussion post replies are too short or if you had a minor MLA mistake he'll give you a bad grade, and he isn't helpful in his responses. Worrying about perfecting essays and the discussion board posts was exhausting.
Make sure and have him review your paper (emphasis added); he's a very strict grader. 4 papers (1000-1200 words in length) over the short story, poem, play, and novel. Weekly discussion board and 3 literary quizzes. If you want extra points attend class regularly. This is a hard class and if you want to pass with an A you'll have to work at it.
Professor Garner has a structured teaching approach, but engaging with it pays off. The free textbook is useful, and unstuck study can complement the lectures well. Stay focused, and you'll likely earn a solid grade.
Mr. Greg Garner is one of the worst professors I have ever had. You have several essays you have to write but when you turn in the rough draft he will not tell you whats wrong with the paper he will just tell you its wrong. I would not advise anyone to take his course. He is very sarcastic and overall not a good teacher do not waste your time.
