Great class. Good teacher. Teaches you everything you need to know in an English 101 class. Grades fair, and leaves plenty of great comments on your paper. Though half the time, you have to ask him what they say since his handwriting is atrocious.

Rock and roll class is great; take it cause it kills lit 105 and eng 102. Hemmer sucks but herriges is a fair teacher and a true product of classic rock and roll.... very laid back and straightforward. You can actually relate to him

Great professor. Take him! He has a great sense of humor and makes the subject interesting. I looked forward to every class. Just be prepared to participate -- i.e. answer questions, read the in-class essays aloud, etc... -- because he will call on you. I'd recommend him to anyone.

I had this guy 14 years ago and I'm glad to see he is still teaching. I loved the fact that you could learn more from a teacher other than what the class was about. I keep looking for the books he wrote whenever I am at a book store.

I am no longer attending classes at Harper but my friend and I had hm as a teacher and we both thought he was one of the best the school has. He made English fun and interesting.

Herriges was the first prof I ever had in college and the best since (3 yrs, 2 schools later.) He is a super laid back guy, who really enjoys his job and the students he teaches. I was so sad when I satisfied my ENG requirements. Take him, but get him quick. His classes fill up immediately. You wont regret it.

Awesome teacher. Not only that but rock star status. He is the type of person you can bullsh** with all day. He has the funniest stories too. Also, he will negotiate with you on certain things. Another tip If you know you can't get a paper in on time, let him know, he will work something out. Rock on!!

hes a cool teacher but at the same time, somewhat a pain in the ass because although he is laid back he murders your paper with red ink, you never see it coming. My advice, if your a guy and want an easy C or B take his class and if your a girl and want an easy A and you arnt afraid of flirting with an old guy, take his class

GREG HERRIGES is the most highly entertaining english teacher ever born. Will come in early/late to help you. Cares so much about his students and the fiction we read in class, youll be amazed. Fun for students of all types, serious/stoner/bored/reading fanatic...etc

He is one of the best professors, I ever had. this is true that he will litteraly murder your paper with red ink , but trust me it will help you in writing research paper. He takes mid term as well as finals, if you listen to him in the class and take notes u will definately get an "A"

This was the funniest and best teacher that i have ever had! when you write you paper, just make sure u dont have stuppid grammatical erros and youll get an A. I wrote my papers the night before and never got anything lower than an A-. Take him!

I genuinely enjoyed this class. Overall, he picked some great book/movie combos, and he has a very comprehensive knowledge base to share with students, which helped spur some great class discussions. The class was very laid-back - a fair amount of reading/writing, obviously, but it was all very manageable.

Had him for Eng 102 too. Nice guy and a good teacher. Talks a lot about the stuff he wrote, but he's actually not a bad writer, so at least he knows what he teaches. Doesn't kill you with work. Good for people who don't know how to write that well and those who do.

One of the greatest English teachers out there. He has very cool stories, and he is an author himself. I learned a lot from him. His grading is really fair and the longest essay for his class is Three pages. Take Herriges, it's a fun class

I thought of dropping this course the second day of class, because of his requirements and knowing that he's an author, I thought his grading would be tough. I stuck to it because I needed the course, but in the end I thought he was a good teacher and was glad that I stuck with the class. His grading is not tough at all if you do your work.

The greatest teacher EVER(both as a person and teacher)! You won't find an easier teacher on campus. There are 5-6 papers and some in class activities but that's it. He gives some EC. He tries to help you and wants you to have a good grade. If you attend classes, he gives the answers to the final exam. TAKE HIM!

Great teacher who will help make sure that your writing is college level. Gets side tracked but the stories he tells help teach the lesson.

I expected different, but he wasn't bad. A little esoteric, but that is to be expected with English professors. I enjoyed the class and received some good feedback about my writing. He has a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor, so don't take him if you can't handle that.

I took him in fall for his beatles class. I loved the class, he made it super interesting. Fairly easy grader. I had fun writing papers for the first time ever thanks to him and his selection of essay assignments. I would recommend his class to anyone.

i had this teacher for a Beatles class which was ENG 102 L04 i believe. Excellent speaker and professor. Directions were very clear and grading was more than fair. Class was easy as long as we followed the guidelines. i would highly recommend him to everyone.

He is amazing! Loved him in 101, so took him in 102 as well. He is hilarious and really encourages discussion. If the discussion falls to only a few people, it isn't his fault. Tries to entertain and succeeds.

I took his English 101 in summer school and it was a good time. The class was 2 and a half hours but he made it go by quick. Everyday we got a break about halfway through class, he was always upbeat and funny, and if you work hard, you will do well in the class. You can get up and leave class whenever you want. I want to have him in English 102!

Mr. Herriges was very cool. I had him for summer school. The class was 2.5 hours long, but he let us out early a lot of the time. We also got a break everyday for about 15 minutes. You will do well in the class if you put the effort in and do the readings. The papers we had to write were usually about 2 pages double spaced. He was awesome!

He is a incredibly tough grader and really has no grading system so it's all guestimated on what your grade is. He is an incredibly nice guy though and will at least try to help you out. Not sure if i would take him again, you spent most of the time learning about HIS accomplishments in class...

If you are interested in exponentially increases your writing skills, take Mr. Herriges. If you are looking for a blow off class and an easy A, don't take Mr. Herriges. He is a hard grader and he does take attendance but he is incredibly knowledgeable and his classes are always fun and interesting. Funny guy as well. I really like him! Take it!

I had him for ENG101-008 and I have a hard time writing papers. I also had a note taker and he is also good with students who are registered with Disability service. He also gave me extra time to complete my writing assignments

Herriges is really layed back, easy going. He knows what he is talking about and has an obvious passion for writing. He has interesting stories and gets off topic frequently. The class was easy and the essays were clearly explained. You do need the textbook, but its only about 40 bucks to rent

If you're looking for an easy A, take this class for a 101! But be prepared to listen to him talk about himself the entire time...not joking. Only wrote about 4 essays the entire semester and he always offered extra credit! He assigns readings every night but he always goes over them the next day anyways.

Excellent teacher! If you want to learn something, take him. You actually have to put in the work, but he's very helpful and understanding so don't think his class is hard. As long as he see's the effort, you'll be fine. Definitely a fair grader and bases it on growth, not perfection. Easy extra credit. The guy is kind of funny too... kind of :-)

I wish that I had known about Mr. Herriges when I took ENG 101 becuase I would have taken it with him. He is one of the beat teachers and people at Harper College. He cares about his students and gives real life experiences to coincide with the short stories and poems we read. Always take notes in his classes becuase it will help you on the midterm and final. You will read a lot, but he makes it up to you by trailing off consistently during class and telling some pretty great stories. One of the most interesting professors you will ever have, I promise you that. Plays in a band, writes books, taught in the ghetto. Just go to class, listen, and you will pass. Gives great feedback if you try your best.

He's an awesome teacher. Through ENG 101, he provided a clear understanding of writing modes and writing in general. He provides many writing examples to the class and he talks about his writing experiences along the way also. He's supper laid back and chill to talk to. Great teacher and great person. He is awesome. He is clear about his directions and you have easy papers to write and doesn't mark assignments late even if it is weeks later. Lots of extra credit too!

Prof. Herriges is a great teacher! Very laid back guy and understands if you can't turn an assignment in on time. Not many tests. Just midterm and final. Basically tells you what's on it. Gives good feedback on papers and you can ask him about fixing them and turning in for a better grade. Always lets you out of class early. I would recommend him!

Awesome professor, always finds a way to make class interesting. Tells many cool life stories and about his career, assigns a few papers and there are a few in class essay, emphasis of class about writing about yourself which is pretty easy to do, gives a couple routine vocabulary quizzes with informing students in advance, attendance is necessary

Professor Herriges was awesome. He provides a syllabus that tells you what you will do every day of the semester. Paper assignments are extremely fair. He is a fairly easy grader, but provides countless extra credit opportunities which boost paper grades. Most of the time we got out of class early as well. I would definitely recommend taking him!!!

If you try you can pass. The only thing I can say about the guy is he liked to talk about his book and his band to much. Was so tried of hearing about it. It made not want to read his book. Hard grader but by no means is it impossible.

Mr. Herriges is funny, doesn't assign long papers, almost always ends class early , and he offers random extra credit. He doesn't lecture about grammar and he isn't super enthusiastic about English, but he is pretty enthusiastic about himself! He talks a lot about his books and his band. By the end of the semester, you'll know him well.

Grades are not given on a point basis, but more of a plain letter grade. Tough grader on papers. Class has a total of 3 3-page analysis' and a research paper. Also has a final and a midterm. Nice professor. Lots of short story readings and one book. None are very long. Fairly easy reads. Good ENG102 course to take.

I had Greg for ENG101 and liked him so much I took the Beatles class he teaches with Romano(also a great teacher). English 101 was fairly easy. As long as you're active and your papers are up to par, you'll be fine. The Beatles class is the most interesting one I've taken at Harper. A few essays and a research paper, but everything else is easy.

He is a great man and has great stories. I liked the class pretty easy and lets you leave early.

favorite professor at Harper. took him for ENG101 in Fall, then the "Beatles" class in the spring, & another 6 credits with him for my 2nd Fall semester at Harper. he's so funny, he's a talented musician who knows everything about the Beatles, he barely gives homework & almost always lets the class out early. 12/10 WOULD RECOMMEND

Took him over the summer, was one of my favorite teacher! recommend him, he knows how to teach the class and so interesting! I hate English but he made it so fun. he had vocab quizzes but it wasn't hard at all. didn't care if you did the reading, he went over it in class anyways. didn't care if you came to class as long as u got your work done!

He is an AMAZING professor! Make sure you register for his section early because he books fast. You will read short stories and talk about them in class, write 4 papers, and one research (argumentative) paper. He is very funny and has great personality. He's that awesome teacher you'd have in high school that would always treat you with respect.

Super laid back professor. He loves to talk about his life experiences but he keeps the class entertaining by not having the students read super lame assignments. We did not have to read any shakespeare and I have no complaints. He is super understanding and only asks that you do what is assigned and don't plagiarize. Self explanatory.

Prof. Herriges is the best teacher I've ever had! He's so cool and loves psychedelic music and has met many famous authors. His band, Athanor is really good as well. I'm very sad that net semester is his last before he retires. He made me love reading and writing again because he's so encouraging and picks the best content to read.

Great Professor! The Spring 2018 semester is his last before he retires. He was a fantastic professor with a really interesting life. I would take him again for English 102, but it doesn't work with my schedule.

Terrific Professor! Had him for ENG 101 and 102. He tells amazing stories about his fascinating life. He almost always let class out early and everything we do or what's due for a particular day in listed in his syllabus. Ask him for help if needed for papers, clarification, or otherwise.
