REALLY GREAT TEACHER... He is very easy to understand and makes Biology fun. The tests are not too hard, but you do need to take notes in class.
Very good teacher. You will learn in this class. He communicates very well and makes biology interesting.
This teacher is so very hard. Try not to take him.. He doesn't explain things just wtch video. The tests are so hard nothing much comes from his letures or those video. Read the book and know everything! If you know that you might get a F or a G
Worst teacher. His lectures make no sens. He tells you to read the book and you better. Labs are a waste of time. Do not take him!!!!!!!!
Straight, and to the point. Lots of note taking but he will give extra points occasionally
Extra credit on what???? My class never got any. Watch alot of videos. Read everything. Study hard. This class is so far tough!
I took him for animal behavior and he was pretty good but it is an elective. Bio 2 however he is horrible, great guy not helpful at all though. Labs are a waste of time.Hope you can teach yourself or already know it all when you take it. Do the extra cred
don't really need to attend lecture, give study guides and practice tests with questions that are word for word on the test. Labs are independent, not guided step by step
This was an animal behavior class. Lots of videos. Tests are alright, a little tough though. Very helpful and clear when answering questions. But A's are a 92 not 90.
IMHO. This is class is for the birds. You watch videos alot. He notes are typed and very small print to make you know every detail. He lectures are so borning. Tests are so tough! I don't how he makes up his tests.Students at Yale could not even pass the
Very fair teacher and explains everything at a level that makes sense to the average person. Do the homework and quizzes, go to class and take good notes and you'll have no problem. If you're lazy, you'll get the grade you deserve!
EASY "A", at least it was for me. I barely even came to class and passed just fine. he can be boring sometimes, and we do watch alot of videos, but hey that is alot better than doing actual work!! he can be funny sometimes too :)
I had him for Animal Behavior. Very into what he teaches, and explains things easily. Not a difficult class if you pay attention. The videos are pretty boring, but have a lot of interesting things in them at the same time.
Very clear on all material, only what's discussed shows up on tests. Shows lots of videos that summerize class notes making it easier to remember info. Very cool guy, fun class.
Very good teacher. Wont have anything on tests that he didnt go over in class. Tests are taken directly from in class notes...so show up and take good notes and you're guarunteed an "A". Not much HW and he lets his classes out early.
I took him and he fails lots of people so watch out! He tests are unclear.
I loved taking his class. Great instructor and cute as well. This former badboy is a top of the line professor and a wonderful guy. Highly recommended
Greg Jones seems to be a really cool guy. He explaines biology in terms that students can understand, and is patient with questions. He is very clear and understanding. Take this professor!!!!
Jones is great. Easygoing, clear and funny. Enjoys teaching. Go to class and look over your notes and the exams will be a cinch.
Dr. Jones is an exceptional teacher. His love for Biology is apparent in his class lectures and labs. I absolutely loved his BSC2005 course, and plan to take more courses taught by him. Study your notes and you'll do fine.
Awesome class and tests very easy as long as you attend class. Definitely recommend to anyone.
He is a great professor. He's test are not hard come to class and listen to his lectures and you'll pass.
he is the best! he is intresting and has alot of fun when he teachs and he makes if fun to come to class. he jokes and makes class fun. Take his class!!!
Great guy and willing to help whenever you need it. It's not a really easy class, but he will help you. He gives out study questions for every chapter. He's really down to earth. The only bad thing about him is his lectures can be boring. He doesn't trick you, everything is from notes and the book.
He's is pretty cool! Good class to take!
Hmmmmmmm. Great Teacher?????? I think that is a huge over statement. Great there is no picture in webster that shows his face. Bad teacher is more like it. Teacher 1 : one that teaches; especially : one whose occupation is to instruct. Never in a million years! F-
Jones ROCKS! Tests correlate to the notes. Pay attention, take notes and you'll do great!
Hes a great teacher, tests are based on the lectures. He hands out a study guide for each test, just pay attention and you'll do fine. But the last lab test is really rough!
A++ teacher, very easy going, always prepared class is very easy tests are a breeze. Final is cut and paaste from old test LITERALLY. overall he is a great easy to get aling wit teacher.
this is simply the best teacher at the college. If you have to take biology, by all means, take him. He loves the subject and helps in every way. I have never had a teacher in any subject that knew as much or cared about helping as much as he does. Very highly recommended...highest accolades!!!
Greg Jones is THE BEST!!! His classes are enjoyable and you can tell that he LOVES what he does!! Definate recomendation!!
he doesnt trick you, everything is in class. absents dont count on your grade!
Dr Jones is really laid back, and very friendly. Will always offer a second explanation, and gladly answers questions after class if needed. The tests are directly from lecture and are NOT set up to trick you. Although you'll want to attend class, absences are not held against you. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Jones.
VERY EASY if you attend class, doesn't really even check the papers except for grammar, the exams are directly from the notes and the final is taken word for word from the tests (which he gives back). Good class to take if you have time to go watch ****in squirrels for hours.
What? Am I dreaming??? Wake me up.. I took him over the fall he never gave extra credit. You watch alot of videos but none of that suff is ever on the exams. Make sure you know how to spell you will be counted off if you don't. Mult choice on sum of the exams. But they are ticky... Don't plan on an A or B or even a C. Pray if you can make a D. LUCK
This class is so hard....
This class was for the birds.. I had him 3 weeks and then it was like he turned for the worest.. The test became harder and his tone for the class was mean.
This teacher is way laid back and mad cool!! He breaks everything down until everybody understand it! I was NOT excited about taking this course, but he has made me LOVE Biology. Which, in highschool, was MY WORST subject. I have gotten high B's and ever test. This is definately a first for me. I highly recommend Dr. Jones!!
This was a fun class, albeit a little unchallenging. Show up for every class and take good notes, and there's no reason you shouldn't do well. He's very knowledgeable in the subject. Good professor.
This class was so hard. Mean F-
GO TO CLASS!! a detail from every movie you watch will appear on the test. The class is hard if you don't go. I had him for 3 hours, and it went fast, and I learned a lot. don't blow off his papers they are easy, but he is picky. so do them. he is great if I could, i would take him agian..
He is very laid back and his tests are so easy. I loved this teacher because he was so nice and he really cared about the students.
Really easy. No essays, barely any homework. Likes what he does.
If you do your homework and study you can get an A in this class no problem. Keep all of your old tests, those questions will reappear on the finale. Go to lab if you expect to pass the lab exams. He is a very sweet, understanding teacher. He gives extra credit quizes and a community service project. If you have to take this class, TAKE JONES:)Best
This class was very easy and very fun. He is a cool guy and his tests are really easy.
I learned a lot from this class. It was interesting and fun and very easy. There is a lot of notetaking but dont let that scare you cuz there are a lot of movies too. Tests are very easy. Dont really need the book, i never even opened mine and i got an A just from paying attention in class. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!
very porganized and has a realistic goal of material to cover ...need to plan on keeping up with reading assignemnts and labwork but very doable if you put your time in. Truly interested in Teaching .
very hard class, but thats the nature of bio. teaches strictly from powerpoint and get's really boring at times! gives an opportunity to replace a test grade with an 100 for an internship. not a highly recommended class
hes an awesome guy.. i took the class b/c i needed an art credit.. it turned out to be fun and hard at the same time.. but u have to have a good memory to memorize monolaugues and do plays.. but its an average class overall..oh ya and u cant miss more than 3 days or it starts affecting your grade
The Perfect Teacher for Non Science Majors. Use notes for tests. Ony hw is mc questions that will be on exams. Optional attendance (except for labs) just make sure you get the notes. He loves bio and I feel bad because anyone who takes this class doesn't care cause we aren't science majors. Labs are ez, he is the man!
Dr. Jones is great. This class is for non bio majors, and he treats it as such. Classes are centered around power point, and taking solid notes should ensure an "A" in the class. Attendance is not required, except for labs. Most test questions are taken directly from homework handouts, and the final is taken 100% from the exams.
Awesome, highly recommended. He is super nice and helpful outside of class too. Tests aren't so bad as long as you study notes and keep up with reading. Also, the final can really save you.
This is a really easy and interesting class. He is also a really great professor. There is a lot of note taking but the tests are based on the notes so you never have to open your book. Lots of movies too, not the boring ones either. Great class and teacher, highly recommend.
He seems alright in the beginning, but then you realize he can't answer any of your questions. He'll tell you your question is a great topic for your PhD research and leave it at that. His powerpoint lectures aren't very helpful since he pretty much just copies word for word passages from the text. To top it all off, he can be pretty rude! Lame!
Dr. Jones is my favorite teacher at Santa Fe. I have taken him for both Animal Behavior and General Biology. For BSC2005 you barely have any h/w if any and then 4 tests and a final. He doesn't take attendance, but if you attend class it is very easy. His tests come directly from his lecture which on powerpoint. He is basically awesome.
He is the greatest teacher at Santa Fe. The class is alot of work, and the lab takes alot of time but they are interesting and he is always there to help to with any questions. The tests are fair, all questions are from the text, the lab or the lab mannuel.
Good teacher, can be boring sometimes. but if you go to class and actually pay attention you will definitely pass the class. the labs are really easy too.
Great teacher, deff knows his info. Class isn't mandatory but highly rec. Labs are fun but sometimes rather boring! His tests are okay, not to hard but def not the easiest test! i'd recommend him to anyone interested in biology!
A great professor and person. Is very clear and makes the class worth sitting down. You MUST have a good core bio1 background because he expects worthy students. I am very pleased of taking this class. If you want to learn CoreBio2 take him!
Very cool teacher. He only takes attendance in labs and his tests are incredibly easy Take him!!!
Just be ready because this guy is boring. Read the book and you will do fine
VERY dry teacher. I also feel as if he has no desire to help those that ask. He doesn't cover much of what he expects you to know, so read the book!!! Not my favorite professor.
Very easy class if you just attend and pay attention. I didn't have to crack the textbook once or take any notes, and I still got straight A's on the tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but makes your life a lot easier overall! Dr Jones is very nice though a bit different, but I like that in a person. I highly recommend this class/professor!
Great professor!! I attended science courses at UF and compared to Santa Fe, the teachers are way more personable and Dr. Jones was no exception. Make sure to get his powerpoints and ask lots of questions (he usually gives hints in his answers).
AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!! I suggest that you DO NOT take this man. I read all the comments about him and I just knew that I would get an A but he wants everyone to be hardcore bio students so if you are deeply interested in science take him if not PLEASE AVOID, you will regret it. Take Prof. Yau or Dubolsky instead for science classes TRUST ME
Very nice guy. Very helpful in lab. Tests aren't easy. Labs are tougher. If you read the chapters and go to class, you will do well. Has a cool extra credit opportunity(start early)that will make a huge difference in your grade. Whoever keeps giving him 1s is the same person. Is this the guy who only shows up for tests? You failed, I got an A.
He is horrible! He is very monotone. Does not want to help students out. Stay away if you're smart.
I hate this teacher. I loved Bio 1 and got to this teacher and hated him. He does not want to help his students at all. Lab was ridiculous. He does not tell you what to study for so you basically go to lab practicals blinded. Perhaps that had to do with the new manuals Moody wrote but Jones surely doesn't make it any easier. I would NOT recommend.
If you get bored easily or can't stay awake sometimes, avoid this teacher. If you come to class, take notes, andread the book, you will be fine. However, I would avoid him if I could Re-Do it, because I cannot stand the monotone voice. it is like the guys in ferris bueller thats like "bueller? bueller? ...bueller??" ....i just get realllly bored.
Lectures are EXTREMELY boring, basically reads word for word on power point. He does NOT give and/or do reviews for the tests, which usually cover about 5 chapters each test so it is VERY hard to figure out what is important or not. Labs are easy, tests are fair.
Jones is so monotone. He does not teach and even if he did you wouldn't notice it because you are zoned out. All he talks about is how nothing in bio is exact and everything is changing. But if you do take him make sure to memorize every word in the campbell textbook! I wish I never took him. class avg for lab 1 65%. exam 1 70%, exam 2 65%.
Jones' class is the easiest class Ive ever taken. Tests come straight from worksheets that you get in class. Lectures are boring but can be helpful. Reading the book isnt really necessary. Highly reccomend! Very nice guy, and funny.
Professor Jones is amazing. If you truly want to learn the material, and not at a pace that is too demanding, and with an instructor who is willing to help with everything; then professor Jones is who you need. I was able to not only do well on his class but I can still recall almost all info that we learned. He is very understanding to your needs!
Jones is an awesome instructor! He allows you to copy his power points to a flash drive and if you didn't read the chapter his pwr pts will help you enough 2 still get a good grade! He is also very helpful all you have 2 do is ask, and he uses humor a lot, not boring at all. Those who say he is just don't like Bio. W/ any teacher Bio is a challenge
Good guy, enjoys his field, makes class easy. Tests are all based on notes and very easy. Highly recommend
Dr. Jones gives you what you give to the class. If you go and see him, or hang out at the end of class, he is extremely helpful. The material is difficult, not the professor. Most of the class rushed to finish/leave the labs. I did very well on them b/c I was the last to leave. He will happily show/help/discuss and answer any questions.
Great teacher, goes over what you need to know for exams. Gives A LOT of opportunities for extra credit. Read the book well and attend class and you should do well. Very easy teacher...sometimes boring because he talks in a monotone voice.
great teacher very helpful and funny, some people dont show up much to class or lab but i cant imagine missing them, teachs the material very well. i wouldve probably failed with any other teacher
Dr. Jones was very knowledgeable and obviously loves what he teaches. He is very helpful and is always available for help after class. The class is really hard and you have to study, but for med school it's a must. I didn't do that well on the final but it was my own fault. Dr. Jones is a great professor, I liked him a lot:)
Dr. Jones really wants you to succeed. He gives tons of extra credit and is always willing to tutor. The material is hard but if you try hard and take advantage of all the extra cred, you will def do well. I got a B, but I would have failed if he had not been so helpful!
QUite an easy class if you read the textbook VERY THOROUGHLY! He gives A LOT of extra credit to help boost grade so make use of those b/c some people didn't and that was just sad! Quite helpful regarding any questions with the subject and exam questions are from textbook reading...no surprises. He also offers extra credit internship opportunity!!!
I did not care much for this course b/c I felt like I had to teach myself. The class lectures were a joke and we were basically told to study the book. Extra credit is offered, but I didn't learn anything in the long run. Please take someone else if you can.
Worthless lectures, monotone, just rambles for an hour, I am convinced he doesn't want to be in lecture either. No better in lab, he will answer any direct questions you ask, but nothing else. Gives a ridiculous amount of extra credit. If you want to teach yourself from the book and not attend class this guy is for you. Utter tragedy.
Dr. Jones knows his stuff and when he lectures he throws in random cool facts. My major is animal sciences and he's always willing to answer any questions I have after class even if we aren't learning about it right then. Offers lots of extra credit, no surprises on tests! You get the grade you work for! Taking him again
Very helpful professor. Really knows his stuff and always answers questions even if they're not related to class. I would strongly recommend taking him for any class. Offers extra credit and there aren't any surprises on tests. You earn the grade you work for.
good teacher great guy. test at first are a little challenging, but after you get the hang of it its not too bad. he doesnt give extra credit for this course but hes more than willing to help you. Great Teacher!
I absolutely fell in love with biology after this class. he made everything so clear, to the point on every test I got a 95 or 96. he is a great teacher and doesn't assign a lot of homework and the homework he does assign absolutely helps you. the final are just all the old tests put together. he is always offering after hour office help.
Good Teacher. Not bad for a biology class. He's really laid back, you don't need the book. However, you do need the power points, which if you give him your usb he will give you all of them. Which is great because attendance is not mandatory and all he does in class is go over the notes. 3 Test and 2 papers in this class. Plus a cumulative final.
This was an amazing class he was so helpful. When I took the tests I always felt like everything he taught was on there. I never received lower than a 96 on his tests and all the test questions were the questions on the final!Awesome teacher made it easy to learn I didn't even try to skip his class!
Amazing teacher, all the tests are multiple choice and easy. The final was based off questions from the tests. Very easy but also fun. Lab was easy too. Definitely RECOMMEND
Dr. Jones is an amazing professor. Test are easy A's every time as they are exactly like the study guide! His lectures are interesting and he is willing to help outside of class. Lets you take tests in his office if you miss any of them. I didn't use the book that much. His grade is based off of 5 tests and some online work. EASY A GREAT TEACHER.
Professor Jones was great! He shows lots of interesting videos and most of the test questions come directly from his lecture notes. He will copy them on to your USB so you have everything you need to succeed in this class. The projects are fun and he makes sure that you understand the concepts discussed in class. He encourages questions! Great guy!
Good teacher. He makes the test very easy, and he is known for recycling them from semester to semester. His final is questions from the lecture exams. If nothing else, the questions for the exams come from the Mastering Bio test bank. DO study HARD for the lab exams though.
He is a good professor. He makes everything very clear and simple. His class is 100% lecture with Power Point, and he offers his students all of the Power Point slides the first day (FREE NOTES!). Also, Don't waste your money on the book. I never opened mine and there were no questions on any of the tests from the book. Its all from lecture.
Take him! I wish I could take him for more classes. He is super easy and wants his students succeed. His tests are his power points and he will give you power points on thumb drive. Lots of cool movies. He is kind of weird but he is funny and cool. His projects are easy and he teaches you a lot. I learned a lot of stuff. He's great! EASY A!!!
If you have the opportunity to take Professor Jones for core biology, you should. What is expected of you is clear from the beginning of the course. Tests are no harder than what is appropriate for the material. He understands many students plan on applying to a pre-professional health programs and his exams are geared to help with entrance exams.
Good professor but you really need to study for this class or you won't pass. Three test for the class and 2 test for lectures. Not many opportunities for grades so you have to do well on the test. He also give extra credit which is helpful.
If you want to pass this class, you better read every single detail of every chapter of the book & pay close attention to class. Watch videos or whatever you need to do to memorize. He's awesome professor who likes questions, so if you do not get, ask him as soon as possible or you'll regret it later. Tests are hard You need to study if you want A!
Professor Jones is outstanding! He is very passionate about science and education. He is very helpful to students, and he is always more than willing to help students, especially in the lab. He has a very approachable and has a friendly demeanor. He wants you to succeed! You must study hard for tests, but he is very clear about his expectations :).
Best teacher ever! Don't expect is an easy class, but if you really like biology you can ace it. Consist in 3 tests, 2 lab tests and the final, but you can replace you lower grade if you are volunteering or doing a research in the biology or health field during the semester. He is more than happy to help you in his office hours. TAKE HIM!
Mr. Jones is the best biology teacher at Santa Fe. He gives you many opportunities to receive extra credit on tests, he wants all his students to pass his class, and he is very helpful. He doesn't really care about due dates for lab questions as long as you understand the material.
Professor Jones was great. Highly recommend.
He gives lectures that aren't related to the tests. Read the chapters assigned to each test out of the TEXTBOOK and you should do great! Tests are word for word out of the book. Attendance isn't mandatory, so if you're good at understanding concepts on you're own this is the class for you!
I took the BSC2005, Gen Biology class plus the lab for the summer. It was not a bad class, but it wasn't a great class. Prof. Gregory has a very monotone voice, so the lectures tend to seem longer than needed, but he loves his area of profession. He'll admit when he doesn't know something, or he'll give you what he knows.
So core bio can be a hard class in general, but you can definitely achieve an A with Dr. Jones. He offers easy extra credit! Notes for each chapter/questions on masteringbio are extra credit that get added onto your test grade. Tests are multiple choice. Doesnt really care about attendance. He's funny and teaches well.
Dr. Jones is a super chill guy. He is there to help you any way possible if you will do what he says. The extra credit given really helps. The only grades are class and lab exams. Stay ahead of the game and you will be fine. Definitely recommend!
Professor Jones does not seem to like his job. His lectures are utterly boring and monotonous. You're on your own when it comes to labs, the manual is your only guidance. Sure, there's plenty of extra credit but it won't really matter if you don't learn all the material for the tests by yourself. I recommend you take a different professor.
The only (small) problem is his voice, so in other words, coffee. Having said that, this ex-UF proffessor is laser precise in his diction and is extremely specific about how he explains concepts - this makes for fantastic lectures. Read the book; his exams are based on it. Do the plethora of EC he offers, and ask him tons of questions just for fun.
Mr. Jones is dope. He's one of those professors who wants all of his students to get an A. He offers extra credit that are added to the test and lab tests and because of this i got an A on all 3 exams and both lab tests. He has a good sense of humor and isn't afraid to throw so profanity in there. I'm taking him again this summer! Take this guy !
Awesome professor! The material is hard but he makes it a lot easier to understand. He gives extra credit for every single one of the tests which is super helpful. You definitely need to study but there is no homework so you have plenty of time to do that. He isn't afraid to drop some profanity in there and he is hilarious.
Everything that Professor Jones assigns is intuitive to maximize learning. He is more than willing to help you when you need guidance or clarification. If you are looking for a sound biology foundation, He's your Guy!!!
Dr. Jones is a chill professor who cares about his students doing well in this course. Test questions come directly from the book so if you want to well, you must read the assigned chapters. My only gripe is his monotone voice which leads to very drawn out, boring lectures.
DO NOT take this professor for this class. I will NEVER take him again. Only grades tests and projects. On projects he grades on his personal preferences and marks you off if you do not agree. He is very monotone. YOU WILL NOT learn about animals in this class. You might as well take an ecology class. They are the same exact thing.
Honestly have no complaints. A little dull at times, but that really didn't bother me. He's not afraid to tell you when he's wrong or unsure, and wants his students to succeed. Four tests, three lab exams, and a final composed of old test questions. Gives 10% extra credit for every test, and drops a test if you do an internship. Tests are from book
Jones does not give ANY assignments/ homework so your grade is solely based off of exams/ lab exams. He gives tons of extra credit that counts toward exam grades. (optional online HW for extra credit and if you take notes BEFORE lecture and show him, you also get extra credit). His exams are textbook heavy so read the chapters and you'll be fine!
Super nice and funny but he lectured for however long he deemed necessary and then you were just expected to know material. What was graded and assignments were kind of vague. Class was just facts no real explanations. Grades were tests and lab thats pretty much it. If youre a bad test taker youre kind of screwed.
During his lectures he just goes over the PowerPoints and homework is online for extra credit which is then added to your test grade which helps a lot. Labs are easy and fun and Professor is always able to answer questions and wants to help. Great guy, but lectures can get a little boring. As long as you study the context in text book you can pass.
I've had professor jones for two semesters BSC2010 and BSC 2011 now and he is the best biology professor. He gives ten points extra credit fro each exam if you do an outline for the chapters. He is the most insightful biology professor, he knows everything and anything. you have to read the chapters for the exams but you will be very prepared.
Really awesome professor. Talks like a regular dude and makes the class as easy as possible as he understands that not everyone is a biology major and most people are just trying to satisfy SF's AA requirements. Very knowledgeable too and makes the class interesting. Glad I took Dr. Jones and would recommend him to others!
Professor Jones is a nice person. He does try to teach in a way that helps you relate more to the material but his lectures are super boring. if you pick him for an early class it's hard to show up. The class has three exams, and two lab exams and that is all your grade depends on. You have to read the chapters in order to pass. There is no hw.
Take chapters notes before lectures and do online homework - it's easy and will give you a lot of extra credits on the test. 3 lecture test and 2 lab tests before the final. Dr. Jones is super nice and I enjoyed his class
Professor Jones was an incredible professor. Had him for the summer and did not find his class stressful at all. There is no homework, just tests and lab practicals. He offers lots of extra credit through outlines of chapter (read up!) and online (optional) hw assignments. Tests are fairly easy as long as you take notes from lecture/textbook.
Lectures are very hard to follow, so you basically have to teach yourself the material. Tests are very difficult to study for, only plus side is there isn't much HW. He also doesn't use Canvas which makes checking up on grades etc difficult. I would not recommend
Dr. Jones gives lectures for the whole period; they can be a little tedious but pay attention, he literally gives you info he'll put on the exams. You have 3 lecture exams and 2 lab exams worth 60% of ur grade, and he'll ask for the lab reviews the same week of the lab. For extra credit, do the chapter notes before the lectures and do MasteringBio.
Professor Jones did an outstanding job teaching this class. He consistently spent ample time on each subject to make sure we had a clear understanding of every topic. He gave simple and useful explanations that made each topic enjoyable and easy to learn. Each lab had clear instructions and he offered his help several times if we had any doubts.
He spends the whole class lecturing, which may be boring to some, but useful, and as long as you write whats on the slides you'll do fine. He only grades the 3 exams, two papers, and final, but none of them are super difficult. He is quick to respond to emails and very understanding. Cool guy, good teacher, and, not to mention, a sick ponytail.
Class is very boring. You have to teach yourself all of the material. Monotone lectures. Grade is only based on tests, no homework. Would not recommend!
Under no circumstance should you take Jones. I don't care if you need it to graduate, or this is the only time that fits in your schedule. Do not take a class with him. He is a disaster. He's a teacher that does not teach. Waste of time going to class. He's useless. You're on your own. You're on a dead end mission. Don't make the same mistake I did
Dr. Jones is a nice guy. You definitely have to read the textbook if you want to do well because the tests are heavily based off of it. This year he only gave extra credit for doing the optional HW, no EC for taking notes before the lecture, and he only gives 5% extra on the tests. If you read/study the chapters in textbook you'll be okay.
I am an A student and this is the first class that I did not succeed in. Only 5 impossible tests. You'll be lucky if you get a C. Wish there was a study guide, so we actually knew what would be on the test. No help other than to say "read the book" Labs are waste of time. Looks like he writes his own ratings on here to boost his score
Dont take Jones unless hes the last option for the class and if you have the option wait to take the class. The class is very lecture heavy but he goes on long tangents over pointless things and labs are a waste of time. Study guides would be useful for tests but arent given out and the only way youll pass tests are by reading the book.
He's a really nice guy but if you are not a good test taker do not take this professor. You are only graded on 4 tests and 3 lab practicals, nothing else to boost your grade. I did not learn anything because it was just straight memorization. The lectures are fairly pointless as most of his questions are just taken from the book.
Greg is a true gem in the biology department here at Santa Fe College. Overall Dr. Jones is a very laid-back guy, however, if you don't do the work you won't pass. If you "follow the logic" and use the lecture powerpoints to study, you'll pass the class easily. He is always cracking jokes and is very self-aware. 10/10 would take again.
Straight to it... Lectures are dry, you have to read the textbook to actually learn. But, he gives extra credit options that go towards your test grade! If you like biology but are not a good test taker this is NOT the professor for you. Tests are 60% of your grade, doing bad on one is hard to come back from. A solid choice though.
I took his course in Spring 2021. The course is info-driven and textbook-heavy. I do not recommend taking Jones online and I wish I could have taken him in person instead. His lectures are very dry but informative. Very test-heavy and the labs are easy but time-consuming. Study from the textbook/ppts and you will do fine. Memorization is key.
The hardest part about his class are the lab exams so make sure you are solid on the lab material. His tests are very straightforward but if you wanna do good on them make sure you read and take notes from the textbook because it's really tough to come back from a low test grade and as a bonus he gives extra credit on tests for reading the book.
Do the extra credit, and read the textbook. Tests are fairly simple as long as you were in lecture and had read. Labs are LONG. Lab exams really were the most difficult thing about the class. Final was super easy, and a great way to boost your grade. Only downside is that your whole grade is 4 exams and 3 lab exams. Great professor!
He's amazing. Really good professor and he explains the notes really well in lectures so you definitely want to attend them. Very caring of his students and wants them to do well. He will answer any questions you want and will respond to emails quickly. Read the notes and do the practice quizzes and tests for each chapter. Also do the homework.
Professor Jones gave extra credit this summer semester 10 points on your regular exams if you took notes before class & did homework. Lots of info to memorize and learn, take good notes and review often! Lab exams are hard, and final was somewhat hard bc we didn't have much time to cover evolutionary theory. Labs were pretty easy and fun, 1-2 hrs.
Bio2is quite different than his B1 bc no homework or lab work is graded. 100% of the grade is in exams (4 unit, 3 lab, final) make sure to take A LOT of notes. Lab wk is independent but stay in lab the whole time if you wanna pass the lab exams. Gives extra cred if u get an internship but doesn't help you with getting one, I wasn't able to get one
Dr.Jones is awesome he really helped me understand the course material. Exams are super straightforward as long as you listen during lectures, you'll do good. Plus there is an extra 10 points of extra credits on each unit exam too. He's super knowledgable and explains things in a way that makes it easy to comprehend.
Professor Jones was instrumental to my success. He really knows the material and explains it pretty well. Bc all I did was attend lectures and I got A's on all the exams since not only are they pretty straightforward but lecture heavy too. The lab exams are pretty straightforward too as long as you pay attention and ask questions.
Professor Jones' Biology 1 course follows closely with certain chapters from the textbook so I would recommend reading them ahead of time (and he gives extra credit for taking notes). There are three exams and two lab exams along with the final which are all pretty straightforward and close to textbook and lecture material. Recommended for Bio 1.
Professor Jones' Biology 1 course is textbook-heavy, but he offers helpful extra credit opportunities. While the lectures can be dry, using resources like Unstuckstudy along with the textbook can make this class manageable.
I took Dr. Jones for Bio1 and Bio2. He is extremely accessible and encourages students to come to his office hours. He gives generous extra credit, expectations are clear, and his exams are fair. Lecture is not mandatory but very helpful. The main complaint people have is that he is monotone. Grow up. Consistent grades in STEM are well worth it.
Hes always happy to answer questions. Gives 10% extra credit on EVERY test. I had a rough semester for personal reasons, but would've gotten an A or B+ otherwise.Tough grader on labs, and tests are a big part of your grade so you have to be on top of studying. Hes a little monotone, but everything is straightforward and hes so passionate about bio!
This class was relatively easy but again its bio 1. On the other hand this professor was very short and made you feel small for asking questions he thought were dumb. While he offers amazing extra credit it was hard to approach him because he was condescending.
Bio I is a relatively easily class. He relied on reading the textbook, which at times could be 50 pages of hard to grasp concepts which made it even harder since his lectures were kind of brief. Lots of xtra credit. I relied on Dr D explains stuff on YT. Tests are straightforward. His monotone voice and enthusiasm made it difficult to follow!!!
This is one of the best professors I've ever had! You can tell he loves teaching and cares about his students. He makes biology fun and tells little jokes that make us all laugh. He had some health issues this semester but he didn't let that get him down. He is an inspiration to do what you love and do it well no matter what. Highly recommend.
This professor is great! He tells jokes and showed us a funny science rap video. He also has a phrase he says a lot "are we following the logic?" And it is endearing. I withdrew from this class a few years ago with another professor, but with him I aced it! The labs are also fun!
This class was reading heavy but worth it because he gives 10 points of extra credit on the exams for book notes, which I needed on some of them. He makes funny jokes and explains things well.
Great professor, fun class, good extra credit!👍
Easy, fun, had a good time.
One of the best professors I've had, clear lectures, fair grading, and genuinely cares about students.
Explains things in a way that actually makes sense. I learned more in this class than other sciences.
Breaks down complex topics into manageable steps. Great for visual learners. Lectures summarize the chapters so make sure you read them before hand and ask questions during. It is reading intensive, but every class you take from this level on is. He Gives 10 points of extra credit on exams for reading notes.
Takes time to listen to students and helps outside of class without judgment. Makes the material interesting even if it's not your major. I left class feeling inspired, his passion for teaching is contagious. I actually looked forward to class. Also his nick name is Turtle Guy.
Grading is super fair and transparent. If you put in the effort, you'll do great. Reading notes give 10 points extra credit on exams, the homework is fairly easy its just tedious. As long as you ask questions and pay attention you'll do well. He also tells funny little jokes which I appreciate.
Dr. Jones is a horrible professor. Cruel lectures and 5 impossible tests make up your whole grade- no homework. Labs are independent and he is unhelpful when asking questions. Very hard to reach outside of class. Under no circumstances should you take him I don't care what it is. Please save yourself and don't make the same mistake I did. Avoid!
He is very monotone but funny. Grades are consistent by only tests.
Overall great professor. Very monotone can be hard to pay attention, try to read chapters before class to better understand lectures (or videos that are on pearson). He really cares about his students and notices effort you put in, use office hours and ask questions. He gives extra credit too which was really helpful cuz he applies it to exams.
