Awsome teacher. I took him over summer and he just turned history into story time. It was really nice. He didn't have no projects, just 2 tests. Very good and funny teacher.

Great teacher... Makes history seem not as boring as it is! He's enthusiastic, cool, funny, and makes learning easy. He's also a good guy, too. Talk with him outside of class... If you love old 50's, 60's and 70's rock 'n roll, he's great to chat with!

Very easy teacher! Mellow guy. I learned a lot from him, I liked his story-telling kind of teaching. Tell you the truth, I didn't have a book and I got an A in the class! Pay attention to lectures because all questions are from the lectures.

I disagree with others, unless you are far left-liberal and believe in conspiracy theories you will like him. There was too much of that in the class. More of a political science class not history. Will not taking him again and dissapointed by the ratings

I took him for a summer class because I failed 4A with a teacher who reminded me of that guy who keeps his eyes close in 3rd rock from the sun. Greg remembered me from a class I took that he was an aide in and I think he played favorites because I coasted in that class and I got an A!

Didn't know what to make of him when I first took his class. Then I saw him at a Bob Dylan concert, and thought he was the coolest cat. Good guy, simple class. Study for his final, because chances are, he's going to repeat five or six questions. Shoe in for an A.

Mr. Knittel is one of the most humble and knowlegeable prof. that I have ever seen at De Anza. His teaching style is like telling the interesting stories. If you need history class, take him, highly recommend!

Mr. Knittel is the best. He is so nice to help students who have questions. He spent a lot of time on these students. I can't believe it. His history lecture was like some interesting stories. I think I will take his 17C someday. Also easy A.

If you show up to class and do the readings, there is no reason why you can't get an A or a B. We talked about the Greeks for weeks and weeks and it never seemed repitive. He's soft-spoken but friendly. And he has good taste in music.

I took him in summer 2004. If u do the reading and go to class u get an A or a B. Im dissatisfied with my grade got a B tried very hard to get an A. He's a kind person but he's voice is very low, and this makes his lectures very boring. I've heard Kline is better. I'll take him for World History.

Those who want to know more about why America is the way it is, take his class. He is very good at making you interested in the history. He is so friendly and willing to spend time for you if you have any questions. I was an inquisitive student but he was always willing to answer my questions. I thank Greg very much. I definately recommend him.

Mr. Knittel is a very nice guy! He's extremely reasonable; lenient grader! Take detailed notes in class or you'll be screwed during exams. The main issue I had with this class is Mr. Knittel's inability to write. I love this guy, but he needs to learn how to write. Half the time it looks like he's writing in a different language. Good class though.

Take good notes in class because his midterm/final are based on it. Weekly discussion papers on reading but it's easy to BS it (pick random quotes and talk about it). Very helpful, nice. Gotta B and I was satisfied cuz the first half of the summer semester I wasnt paying attention.

Take good notes and do the reading. The discussion papers are easy, but don't be absent for them or you lose the points. Tests are kind of hard but he will help you if you ask. Nice guy, i'd take more classes with him

TAKE NOTES ON HIS LECTURES! He never really gives you assignments or tells you what you're supposed to be doing for his class, so just remember to always write down what he says. Memorize those lecture notes, and then his tests should be very fair and easy.

Easiest history teacher out there! His class may seem very long and dreadful, yet once you get through his classes and lectures, it's an easy "A". He even has his weekly review sheet posted on email, which everyone has access to. All his exams are based on those review sheets.

TURNED ME ON TO HISTORY. Man teddy bear is one serioiusly good history teacher. He tells the histroy like its a STORY and makes it interesting. HE doesn't give lectures, every class is like story time, and i don't know about you but i love stories.

Boring class. Most students suffer through first 1/2 of class with discussion papers and disappear during break. The rest of the class Knittel doesn't go over history as much as go off on tangents. Bring caffeine to stay awake. Do reading and attend - easy "A".

Mr. Knittel's class was very enjoyable. Most importantly he teaches really well, plus his lectures/stories are fun. You will learn some of history's most important events which every intelligent person should know about. For the student's own benefit, I hope that he continues to use the book "Guns, Germs, and Steel." Great instructor and class!

I love this professor... I think he genuinely cares about his students and he is so sweet! I dont think he could hurt a fly : ) Anyways, definitely take him, he tells you EXACTLY what will be on the test and is a lenient grader as long as you show you have put in effort... highly reccomended

People say that he is hard or arrogant well I don't know what teacher they had because he is the opposite of both. His absent mindidness can play to your advantage if you don't turn in the weekly papers, just turn them in within 2 weeks. Best advice is to go to the class everyday and write notes. Test are mainly on in class notes. I got an easy A.

If you want to learn history get a different professor. He was often late to class. He did have us read a couple different perspectives of World War II, a Chinese and a anti-American author. A nice teacher but his music comes first, especially the Beatles.

He is such a sweet, understanding, easy going great professor. He breaks the course down to a set of notes that you just print out and follow along. Then those will be on the exams! Just do all of the discussion papers and the midterm/final. Super easy, just put in some effort and you will be fine. Highly recommend! Loves The Beatles as well :)

WAW, this professor is 1 of the best professors at deanza. His lectures are very captivating, educational, and entertaining. Assigns a lot of reading, but he's extremely fair with thegrading. u will notice he is also a very critical thinker which he will teach u to be too. u must take him, and if u do, he will be in ur memory forever!

You have to love a guy who plays Beatles songs on his guitar in the middle of class. The class was easy, but I was introduced to authors with different viewpoints and stories about history that I'll never forget. I learned something and didn't stress at all.

wow Mr. Knittel is the coolest history teacher I've ever had. He made history fun without stress. Seriously if you need to take history, take him! He taught through stories and they were awesome and memorable. Overall, very chill professor and played his guitar at the end of the quarter. Take this professor!

I took Professor Knittel for a history class that met once a week. It's hard sitting in any class for 5 hours, nonetheless history, but he made it bearable. If you don't like participating in group discussion, he's probably not for you. His tests are multiple choice and essay. You don't really need the book, just his notes.

Chill teacher you can be late and leave. No hw, projects, research reports. Just midterm and Final. for the Exams it's multiple choice(mc) and essay part. just study before test day. for me the essay part was easy, the mc part prevented me from getting an A. if you want to do good in that part, take notes as he randomly talks use it to study for mc

Mr. Knittel is a very nice guy. As a teacher he is very easy going, and less structured than other teachers. Uses the book, Guns, Germs and Steel, and has apparently used it for a long time. Not sure why, becasue other than using it for midterm and final, he didn't really refer to it. Would love to see some structure and clarity.

Do yourself a HUGE favor: take his class! He rarely assigns text reading or homework, working mainly via lecture. The way he explains history brings it to life in a way that really makes it stick. I can recite US events 1492-1800 with little difficulty now. Take copious notes & you WILL get an A. He loves to play Beatles songs on his guitar, too!

I took a class with Prof M.Stevens and she gave 20 points extra credit if you went to Prof. Knittle. I went every week and he's just an awesome teacher. A genuinely nice guy and with his help I got an A.Highly recommend him!

Mr. Knittel can be hilarious if you are awake enough to pay attention to his class. His tests are all lecture-based, and the discussion papers aren't something to look forward to, but overall it was a pretty easy-going class. He's a really cool teacher, and super understanding.

Greg Knittel is not suited to be a college professor. I am shocked that De Anza College hired him. His lectures are scatter-brained, boring and do not relate to history most of the time. His homework and tests are easy, but that is no excuse to entertain the idea that this man is a good instructor.

He's okay. In terms of learning, there is not a whole lot of it but he's easy. Mostly tests and a paper. Homework is just finding quotes out of the free/online book. If you're looking for an easy GE class, you will breeze through it without a sweat.

Really hate to say it, but this professor is not recommended. History is definitely a strong field for me. I seriously felt as though we had to teach ourselves by consensus. He kept asking people for their opinions -- dude, respectfully, I pay YOU to teach ME! Not enough teaching, more like chatting. I felt like I would learn more by watching tv.

If you want to be lectured to for hours on end like a child, then don't take his class. If you are an adult and prepared to discuss philosophy, politics, religiion and culture, and history, then take his class.

He's very kind and his class is, but I felt unchallenged at all. He explains well but not with much depth; the depth resembles high school level or, dare I say, middle school; just cram for tests with Wikipedia. For the textbook, he tells you to read and never tests on it even though it was clearly more in-depth. Lastly, he can't spell for his life

You say he is kind but rank him low in being helpful...you say he teaches at a middle school level but rank a bit high as far as interest level....he expects you to come to class prepared and learn how to help yourself learn...what i got out of the class a sense of critical thinking, self reflection, and understanding about the ancient world.

The easiest history teacher in the world. His class is so easy that if you don't get an A in the class; it's your fault. I don't like history; however he made the class more fun and easy. I don't get why he doesn't have the highest ratings. ~~ You can just study 2 days before the test and pass.

He's probably the easiest history teacher at De Anza. His exam questions are straight forward. He provides tons of extra credit that can really boost your grade. However, his lecture is very, very monotonous.

He is very easy, helpful and nice to students! He knows what to teach and talk. Study notes before exams and prepare essays homework due to the day. Test's questions are very simple and so straight forward. So you should be ok, but his lecture is extremely boring.

He was very reasonable with our class. He took notice of the fact that we have busy lives apart from school. He is interested in what h teaches and has a very mild mannered and soft approach with students. He encourages an open participation forum. He's very fair!

There is one paper(the only reason why you should buy the book).Come to class because there's pop quizzes,that's how he takes attentions.Overall good teacher,really nice and helpful!

GREAT teacher. Lectures are boring, not gonna lie but if you take notes you'll pass the pop quizzes and tests. One essay (you'll need the book JUST for this). Otherwise, a very easy class and really nice teacher! Gives Extra Credit. Plus he let us out early from a 2 hour class. I got an A! 2 tests, 1 essay, Extra credit & Final.

Very good class to take. He provides the text online for free. If you study a little you will get an A. He gives chances for extra credit. Be careful though, he gives out pop quizzes usually when he notices people leaving class early. The pop quizzes are worth 50 points altogether.

If you want a class you don't need to show up in and want a class you can slack off this is the one for you. I never paid attention in class and went over notes once every time we had a test and pretty much failed all of them. Somehow I ended up with a B in the class. Pretty much feels like a high school to be honest.

Worst teacher I've ever had, spends the whole 2 hours of class babbling on unrelated hard to follow topics and then proceeds to back up whatever he's saying with stuff he looks up on google images... No lesson plan at all, very unclear , no public speaking skills.

Don't take him. Class goes nowhere. Like previous review stated there is no lesson plan, you just sit there while whatever comes to his mind is what is discussed. He touches on points from his website outline but it is not thoroughly examined.

Knittel is a great professor, very nice and chill. The book isn't really necessary and only required for the few homework assignments and the tests are easy. He gives you extra credit along with sample questions that pop up on the test. He is however VERY monotone, so it is easy to fall asleep, but lets you out an hour early. Overall, easy class.

Okaaayyy so honestly IDK what to feel about this guy. He's hilarious, but then at first I was scared because nobody would have a clue what's going on in his class. He doesn't really follow the book, he seems to talk about random topics, and his notes a bit disorganized. But as long as you do the exam prep he covers in class, you're GOLDEN.

I don't understand why people give good feedback for this class. OMG this is the worst class I have taken so far. This class goes nowhere. There is no lesson plan, no textbook, he just says whatever comes to his mind. You have to write everything he says because on the exam you don't have any material to study.

Talk about a waste of time. This professor shows an incredible lack of passion, will spend the 1 day a week we have together in class on Google Images getting sidetracked or on the editor of his website - an incoherent jumble of notes. Incredibly difficult to follow. Assignment instructions often unclear. Does not reply to emails.

Hey guys it's a history class, he's the best history teacher for me, he makes his lectures like story-telling, which helps a lot. Plus he doesn't have too much for us to read. I don't know why people are so mad at him, go to the class and just study!!!

Exams are based on his Overbead/website notes. He Googles everything. His homework is not to bad Read a chapter and discuss about the question. His teaching style unique in a sense that I feel he wants to say more. Don't. Be fooled this class is a Easter civilization class. Way to much to go over in 1 quarter especially with two holidays on a row.

Professor Knittle is the best professor at De Anza. He is very caring for his student. He gave total of 1 midterm, 1 group presentation, and 1 final. All exam are based on his power point slides and also some materila from the presentation that students did. He will tell you what is on the exam. Memorize it and you will pass. EASY A.

Honestly, it's easier than "show up and pass." You don't even have to show up. Literally just show up on the day of the midterm/final/presentation, and you'll get an A.

Lectures can get dry occasionally but he knows what he is talking about. Prof. Knittel is a good hearted professor with an excellent background in history. I learned a lot in his class whilst fulfilling my GE. Class itself is fairly easy.

Professor Knittel is laid back and understands that students have lives outside the classroom. His classes are stress-free with minimal homework to keep you on your toes. Retaining information for tests should not be hard, as all the notes are posted on his website. Overall a great choice so what are you waiting for?

His tests are really easy, and he tells you what you need to know, so you'll never have to read through a bunch of notes and memorize more than what you'll be tested on. All other assignments, he gives you credit just for turning something in. If you can't pass this class, good luck to you!

I never liked history class but Professor Greg makes it so interesting and he is very helpful. I actually learned a lot from this class. This course requires only 3 exams and a few journals. he will give extra credit. He is definitely the greatest professor i ever met at Deanza. Stress-free. I would love to take his class again if i could.

No idea on how to prepare for exams. His exam review lecture does not cover all questions on the exam. Easy to fall asleep in his class. His notes are super unclear and hard to understand. Attended class everyday and tried to understand him but I can't. Learn nothing about history in this class. Remember a bunch of information without understanding

He's the most easy-going professor at De Anza. Stress-free. Exams were based on review lectures (5,6 questions were not but he gives lots of free points). He doesn't like students talking while he's teaching. Overall, you can learn history and get A. Just listen to what he said in class. Sometimes lectures can be a little boring. But he's very nice

If you want an easy A class then this class would be a good choice. Lecture on zoom and his exams are based on his notes. Even though his notes kind of messy, but you can find questions on the exam in his notes.

I took his online class and he is a great professor! Lectures are lengthy but he writes down his notes and uploads them so students are able to go back and review them. He prepares study guides that are very similar to the exams! Homework is not too bad, read a chapter and post your thoughts in a discussion. Recommend! It is a light work class

Prof. Knittel is great. He doesn't understand technology too well so be prepared for some disorganization at first. Lecture attendance isn't mandatory & he posts recordings & notes after class. Even if you don't go to the live lecture you need to watch it in order to understand the notes. Overall he's a good prof and genuinely cares about the class

You can tell he is really passionate about what he teaches, so it's interesting and u learn. Easy A. 3 posts, 1 midterm, final. Textbook is on a free website. We had an open book, untimed multiple-choice exam for the final. All the answers are in his lectures. For the lecture prior to the tests, he gives you about 95% of the test's actual answers.

Really nice and sweet. Gives a lot of liberty to writing the essays - you can literally write it in any format you want as long as it pertains to the material (no MLA, APA). Tests are open book with a week of time given to do it. Test difficulty is trivial as all you have to do is pay attention to his lectures. Can be unresponsive to emails though.

Professor Knittel's lectures bring up a lot of interesting material, but they can get very boring as he is not a super high energy lecturer. In addition, his notes look like Oklahoma after a tornado. That being said, his History 17B class is an extremely easy A. Take-home all MC tests, paper effectively graded based on completion.

Easy A, free textbook. There wasnt supposed to be meetings but had them anyway, gives notes from meetings, class picked what chapters to read. Originally said hed assign like 5 short papers (summarize a chapter) but ended up with one or two. Didnt open them and gave full credit if submitted. Easy tests, just search notes for answers.

Hes an awesome professor, we had one journal that was given to us the first week and was due the week of finals. Also one exam and final which were both multiple choice. However, you need to watch his lectures to do well on the exam/ final in order to understand the professors notes bc they are a bit unorganized. He was great in the summer!

Took in the summer for Hist 17C, absolutely amazing professor. Had One 2000 word journal which was super easy. The midterm and final answers were pretty much all on his notes. Just watch his lectures (which are enjoyable) and u will do good. Sadly he doesnt respond to phone or email out of class so can't really reach him other than zoom lectures.

Prof. Knittel gives out three essays for the whole quarter and two exams (midterm and finals) 50 questions with no time limit. You'll be reading a book that the professor assigns and write about each chapters for the essays. It can be general about the book. He can sometimes be out of touch, but try to text or email him about assignments and exams.

Extremely easy A. 2 Exams and 1 final paper, and that's it. No homework, attendance is not mandatory, however has optional meetings. Posts lecture notes that are very disorganized, but contain helpful information for the exams, command f will be your best friend. Final paper is long, but you have the entire quarter to complete it. Highly recommend

Super easy but most disorganized class I've ever taken. Canvas was extremely disorganized, due dates were messed up, and have to attend or watch optional Zoom meetings to find detailed instructions for assignments. 2 papers, 2 exams. Exam answers are either in his notes or on internet. Gives 100% for all papers. Spent ~10 hrs on this class in total

He never responded to any of my and my classmates emails. No one understood the assignments. Had to contact the DEAN to force the professors hand into explaining the assignments. He missed the final grade deadline at the end of the quarter. The amount of stress he induced on my classmates and me, I wish that upon no one. He needs to be fired.

Doesn't know what a syllabus is or how to run a class. The lectures are a joke. He puts on 1/2 hr long YouTube vids for you to watch so he can disappear then talks about himself and unrelated things. Quiz is multiple choices, has little to do with lectures. Never responds to emails. Award goes to him for most disorganized professor.

All we had to do was a profile paper (introduction paragraph), 2 exams (midterm and final), and a zinn journal. The zinn journal is a 2 page per chapter response on a textbook he provides. His lectures has the answers for his tests but you do not have to watch them. I did not watch a single lecture and was able to get an A on both exams. Easy class

Great Professor. It was an online class and you didn't have to join the Zoom sessions which was great. There were two midterms, a paper on the book he recommends you read. It is pretty straight forward and he was very nice when you asked questions.

Really lenient grading (research some historical info &personal thoughts& follow the format).100% for sure. a great choice for GE. want to Learn history, definitely not him

The online test is very difficult though it's an open book. Even if you Google it, the answer doesn't come out easily. Self-studying is preferred to taking the classes since he is literally not good at teaching. Especially for international students who have no basic knowledge of American history, I recommend you to look for other professors !!

If the college charges the student, they should bring in good instructors. I took 3A World Hist (Pre Hist - 750 CE) during the summer of 2023 with George Knittel. He used a book about New Zealand and 1 whole chapter was about the origin of ALMONDS. How do you get out of his class and say you learned about World Pre History to 750 CE?
