Moves quick from problem to problem. Very happy to help in any way he can if you ask. You wont have a chance to really think much during class because he's moving very fast.

The best math teach I have ever had. He has a special abitlity to break the problems down so that anyone can undertand.
Worst math teacher i've ever had, didn't like to actually explain stuff, class was filled with him makes strange faces and wasting time, when actuall problems came up he usually had great difficulty with them if he was even able to do them. Doesn't explain stuff well at all.No other points except tests too. Very Unhappy. Do not recommend.
Professor Larson will help you understand math.
HORRBIBLE. Gives minimum partial credit on exams and expects you to know lengthy proofs on exams. Mid-way he made passing a 60%. Take someone else...he isn't fair at all.
I hate Math, that’s the truth! But he makes it clear and easy to understand. Makes bad jokes but it makes math not so bad. I’m actually looking forward to my next class. Tests are easy and give homework but only to make sure you understand the math. Pay attention and go to every class and you will pass.
Honestly, because of him I like math again! His class is very passable, just beware, he loves proofs!! The exams are semi long but he doesn't assign insane problems. Be motivated from the beginning bc your grade solely depends on your exam scores.
Overall he's a very good math teacher but very boring at times. He tries to make it interesting by cracking jokes once in a while & being sarcastic but fails. Basically he teaches you lessons, assigns h/w which is very little around 3 problems for each section learned & easy quizzes on them every week or every other week. Very nice & helpful.
Scatterbrained.. not very good. really nice guy but not such a great teacher. Boring, and cracks bad jokes.
I thought he taught the class very well especially for a student who has not very good at math and one who has not been in a classroom in years
He is a really good teacher, I have not taken math for two years and some how he helped me remember everything. If you do you homework and show up for class everyday, and trust me if you show up for class you will at least get a B on your test if you actually pay attention
good teacher
Horrible teacher! I showed up to every class and still hardly understood the lessons. He never reviews the hw or what we went over the class before. I did all the hw and took notes every class and still didn't do good on tests. He doesn't tell you what is going to be on the tests and there were problems on the test that he never even went over.
I consider myself as a good student. I always have been getting high As in Math. Got a C in this class. I do not recommend taking it with him. Unclear lecture, does not explain or does not explain well, short lecture notes, and not going through some homework questions can sometimes lead to confusions.
he pretty much writes on the board the whole entire lecture which gets pretty boring, but does show a lot of examples and offers help. sometimes he adds questions on the test that are not similar to examples from lecture or hw so it seems kind of unfair, but overall an ok teacher
This teacher isnt easy. His tests are hard. And he goes over each chapter really fast and doesnt explain everything really well.
He was funny in a weird way :)
Lets just say if you skip one test your pretty much not getting an "A" anymore, come to class late he will get mad and erase everything on there even when students in class didn't finish writing it down. Not very helpful though, and messes up allot when teaching.
Mr. Larson is a great teacher because he helps me when I ask and sets aside a time to teach me outside of class. I like the quiz every week on the chapter or section that he covers because it allows me to learn better. So, when it is time for the test, I am able to remember. By the way, he only puts on the test that he covered in class.
Hated his teaching style... if you don't understand what is being taught or his way of explaining it, don't bother asking. I purposely skipped the final and failed. Retook the class with another professor and got an A. I do NOT recommend.
Very strict, but fair. You have to keep up with the class. Nice enough. Always in office hours.
this teacher and super boring and teaches in the worst way ever. all he does is write the problem on the board and does it for you. doesnt explain how to do it really. its more like a teach your self kind of class. i wouldnt take him if i was you.
mr larson is a great math teacher, i had an indian teacher and didnt understand a word he was saying larson explains everything is really wierd and random and does make constipated faces but is pretty cool neway.
Larson is pretty chill. His teaching style is just working problems out on the board over and over again until he knows the class understands--its great! He's not really clear on explaining how to do problems but once he starts working out examples, you tend to catch on.Homework is simple..only a couple math problems..tests are simple also
Seriously i used to love math but once i got this teacher i hated with a passion. please skip this teacher .he doesnt give you material like reviews for the test pretty much u have to teach yourself .the only way i got a d was because watching videos rom youtube. i was really lost .
To pass his exams you need a thorough understanding of the material covered. Being able to do the calculations is not sufficient. He's a pretty tough grader, but I can't say he's unfair. He is friendly and approachable. He tries to make the subject matter as interesting as possible.
worst math teacher ever, hes boring and makes math a drag. makes weird faces and tries to crack jokes that aren't funny. doesnt review for tests never goes over the homework.you will fail if you take this class
i loved math before larsons class. he was very boring and said the weirdest things and tried to make "jokes" they were just as bad as his monotonous lectures.very strict grading no partial credit, and useless when it comes to explaining things
ive taken many math classes prior to this class, i love math and excel in it...at least before i got into his class. BAD teacher strict, doesn't review, boring lectures, his class is a recipe for failure, and he also says the most unnecessary comments and he's wierd
i loathed this class and the teacher was even worse. not helpful, ive never had a teacher this bad in all my years of taking math...do not recommend.
Neg: Extremely unethical testing practices, covers 10x material that might be on test but refuses to say what will be on the test, even hiding which sections covered on test! If you want an A or to pass this is Torture 200. Ruthless w/o empathy. Positives: Great class lecturer, precise, well paced, funny, interesting. If grade not important, a win.
He knows the subject is boring, but tries to make it interesting any way he can. Very nice guy and really good teacher. Make sure you study, though, since some questions on the quizzes and tests seem to come out of nowhere.
This teacher likes math and knows you don't. Course material covered seemed very brief. Does NOT review for tests well. If you know math and are willing to read each chapter go for it. If you need hands on help, explanations and test reviews.. STAY AWAY
Awesome teacher; as long as you do your share of the work, you'll be fine. Tests can be difficult, but are rarely unfair. Be ready to study/do homework though, even though it's rarely mandatory.
Might as well be an online 205 class. First test is deceivingly easy (got 100), rest are a B, if you're lucky, (78, 68, I withdrew after getting 3 back). Proofs are vague, doesn't give test reviews, let alone the material that will be on it. Often tests on non-homework material that he spent 10 minutes on (forget practicing). AVOID if you can.
Mr. Larson is a great teacher. He knows that most student dont like math but he made me laugh in every class. He works all of the problems out on the board and always answers questions.I dont love math but I LOVED THIS CLASS!
He can't understand why some people just don't get math on the first go. He does not allow calculators. Yep. No calculators allowed. Ever. Would not recommend this guy to the modern math student.
He's a good guy. He makes awkward jokes amplified by that sound he makes with his smile (I think hes sucking in air and spit at the same time, idk)followed by even more awkward silence. His tests are more on definitions and theorems rather than applications, so expect at least half of the content to be like that. No calculators allowed.
Poorly taught class. No review before/after tests and quizzes. 5 total HW assignments of 1-3 questions each. Skips majority of algebraic steps and goes upon assumption of previous material. Problems in book vs. test/quiz differ significantly. Tests on theorems/definitions often. Low test averages and does not curve/inconsistent partial credit.
I found his class straight forward. If you know how to study then you will have no problem getting an A. He is a friendly person and very approachable. He seems to always be in a good mood. There isn't much in the way of points, so everything counts. I would take another of his classes if I could.
Cool guy but doesn't help at all. He just go through the motions of problems without breaking them down. Seems nervous when he lectures and it doesn't help. Strict grading and very boring. Cool guy though.
Wouldn't recommend this professor. Doesn't review for test or quizzes and he doesn't break down problems step by step. He does the work on the board and have the time you're confused. If you ask a question the problems are still confusing. Before I used to get A's in math but in this class you don't understand anything.
People forget that 200 level classes are sophomore level. Professor Larson presents the new material in class and goes over examples. He will answer any questions you ask. His tests are pretty simple as long as you understand the concepts taught in class. Homework is assigned but not collected. Quizzes every Friday but they are simple.
I had him for math 110 and 115. I think a lot of the negative reviews here are because he expects his students to be mature and do practice work on their own, which some people have a hard time dealing with. He's very helpful, and always willing to spend extra time helping you if you show you're trying. I definitely recommend this professor.
This guy's hilarious. That being said, not the greatest choice for a professor. Lectures are an open conversation style where he asks questions along the way and he just kinda plugs along with his lecture even if the entire class is giving the "huh" look without answering any questions. Tests few and far between but lots of old material in each.
Homework is optional. He doesn't do problems step by step and since I am not a good math student this was the main problem for me. Doesn't really explain what is exactly on each test and you need to memorize all formulas. Quizzes every Thursday if you take TTh that we didn't have a test, some are take home. He doesn't answer student questions well.
He didn't explain problems really good
Very quirky professor. Sets up his lecture sample questions exactly like exam questions. Grading is very respectable- he'll give you points if you're on the right path yet didn't get it right- he's especially funny when he does the wrong calculations by accident and students point it out and he gets embarrassed about it! TBH just listen and write!
Hes really good at teaching, but always take notes and pay attention to be able to pass tests and quizzes.
This man definitely loves math. He wrote the book for the class and he is extremely organized in how he teaches a subject. Everything is on the white board so if you miss class you miss the notes. Absolutely must take trig before taking this class with him!!!
The first semester taking his class, he is awesome in teaching math. He did not collect homework. Homework is for practicing at home and be prepared for quizzes and tests. The quiz is once a week.
I have always had a difficult time in math, and this class was a doozy. However, if you pay attention, take initiative, and do the homework you should be fine. He gives quizzes once a week, that are helpful. He explains each problem and goes over about a million in class. Take notes, show up, study, and you should pass.
All of his lectures are just running through examples of the materials. Homework is optional, but it is a great studying tool when it comes to exams. He is a very quirky math professor, but he is always willing to help you understand the material. I took the class without any knowledge of trig, and I got an A. Apply yourself and you'll be fine.
Larson was an all right professor. His lectures- or should I say 700 examples- were so boring making you want to sleep. He doesn't upload nor updates your grades on canvas, so you're going to have to email him if you want to know your grade. Overall, he answers questions clearly and has a totally different way of explaining and doing problems.
homework not mandatory but DO IT. problems in exams are worded exactly like examples in lecture/homework. grade is entirely from quizzes+exams. dont expect a curve. you get what you get. the cumulative final can be intimidating since theres quite a lot of material, but just review your midterms. know the definition/proof/theorems he says u need!
I took his night precalc class! Super fair grading and clear notes. Bombed one of the tests but aced the rest, and I was still able to get an A! Also he was funny! If you're taking chem or more math later, do yourself a favor and save your notes from this class. Hope I can take his classes for the Calculus series soon!
In non COVID classes, he's a great teacher if you don't mind tests, can learn from kind of repetitive lectures and can take time to practice at home, which works for me, but he writes no notes/confusing shorthand on tests when wrong, no clue how to use Canvas, doesn't announce tests and doesn't respond to emails fast then blames you for asking late
Professor Larson is hard to understand, he doesn't do any reviews, no study guides, and goes through examples very fast. As a student when you ask questions, he ends up leaving you more confused. So be prepared to study on your own. He doesn't use the textbook , instead he shows a hundred problems of his own. ( again they are very strange)
Greg teaching isn't good. 1st, he lecture fast, overwhelm you with a lot of info and rush lessons. 2nd, he writes very small on board, and forget that he had two boards on wall. He gives so much HW, but nothing to show you how to solve math in case get wrong. When he write somthing he doesn't explain, and if ask him to clarify you end-up confused.
He doesn't have to make the class hard, but his teaching technique in terrible. Just does examples every day and that's it. Gives you a bunch of hw where there is no explanation to them and he makes too many mistakes where that might not even be the right answer. He's lazy and won't make a study guide, saying the hw is what to study. terribleclass
Well, what can I say. He does not really explain thoroughly the problems.
He is a very nice person. His lectures are literally just hundreds of examples.
Greg was my go-to professor for almost all my calculus series. The formula to pass the class is to pay attention to all the examples he does and write them all down. Review these and proceed to do the homework until you feel confident; you will see that his quizzes and tests are pulled out straight from the homework.
Not a good experience. I did well in math my whole life until I took this class. Only teaching technique is doing examples on the board for the entirety of class. Nice guy but I did not have a good experience in the class. Graded by only tests and quizzes. If your good at teaching yourself then you can probably do ok but if not, I DO NOT recommend.
Fantastic Professor, because of covid the class was completely online but the teaching despite being over zoom, was great. He gave very clear lectures so if you take notes and pay attention it is hard to fail. Math is my worst subject and because he was so clear I enjoyed the class. You are graded on tests/quizzes, not homework which is optional.
If I had to take math again I would definitely take it with Greg Larson. His lectures were very easy to follow, and are exactly what is going to be on the test/quizzes. He does give homework, but not for a grade (optional to do); though the homework does help a lot for studying purposes. Also his office hours were super helpful !
Professor Larson is by far one of my favorite math teachers I've had at Palomar. He actually teaches you, unlike some professors who just give you work to do. He does assign homework, but it's optional and is not graded. The only thing you are graded on is the quizzes and tests. Another plus is, the zoom is not mandatory.
Larson is one of the best professors for math at Palomar. His statistics class was mainly quizzes once a week, with 4-5 total exams. There is no homework, but use his lecture examples as they will be used basically for quizzes or exams. Teaches in a clear way, and answers all questions. This is the professor to take for math courses!
Great explanations and great professor. Really cares for the students and wants to see us succeed. exams are relevant and from HW. Quick to answer emails and takes time in class to make sure we're all understanding. 10/10, wish I could take more of his classes!
Everyone loved Mr. Larson this semester. Trust me he is a math teacher you wanna take. Lectures are clear and very well paced. If you have a question, he will take the time to respond. Zoom lectures are recorded and he posts the notes from them as well; notes are typed up so they're really neat. He is not a tough grader despite what the ratings say
You will come to realize beagles will make your day. If you want to know the inside joke, take the class. I ensure you that you won't regret it. ) By far my favorite professor at Palomar!
Great professor who knows his stuff. If you dont attend class or pay attention, you will not pass, its math after all. Pay attention in class, follow along with his examples, and youll do fine. Quizzes every Thursday, exams every few weeks. The examples done in class are exactly the same as the questions on the quizzes.
Amazing professor for Stats. He is precise on how to do problems. He also does it step by step and gives students a chance to ask about any question they have about certain material.
Even though Prof larson sometimes doesnt quite emphasize on the important parts on certain topics well enough, he makes class super fun and simple. While his homework isnt turned in please still do it if you want to get an a in the class. Id also like to mention that he is very clear on what hes disscussing as he writes it on the board step by step
Professor Larson is truly great at what he does. I have always struggled with math and I have not had great experiences with other math professors, but professor Larson is patient and gives very clear notes. All of the notes translate to the exams. His class is straight forward. If you show up and study the material you will pass.
Amazing teacher. Going to class is so important because he gives great notes then that perfectly correlate to the tests. He posts homework online to help study, but it isn't graded. The way he delivers notes is very clear. Very understanding. He is my favorite teacher I've had.
Lectures are primarily on examples. He does tend to make mistakes on these examples (minor algebra errors), so do not be afraid to correct him. Gives out a lot of homework that is optional but is highly recommended you do at least half of the homework problems if you want to do good on the exams. Ask for help and he will help.
If you could avoid having this man at all in your mathematic career, please do so. He does not care about his students, and claims to give you ample resources, but it's every man for himself on the final. His notes are extremely useless, which really comes to bite you in the back when studying. Don't take if you want to do well.
Lectures are mostly proofs/unimportant topics to what you need on the weekly quizes and exams. Do as many of the HW problems as possible and study a lot outside class in order to understand the topics, as the letures alone are not enough. He's charasmatic and cares about teaching but cares more about proofs than you passing. Tests have no formulas.
Good professor but you have to put in effort to understand what he teaches. No hw or req. textbook but I would do the hw and challenge yourself as it is needed to succeed. Teaches through lots of examples, but he is easy to learn from for the most part, don't be afraid to ask questions.
Course is 100% based off of his lectures. Take good notes, you'll need them for all quizzes and tests If you study the notes and are able to do all the hardest questions on his homework you will get an A or B on the test. The first exam is the heaviest Lastly, He is a good professor, he's just very rigorous. He's very helpful during office h
I saw him walking to his car the semester after and thought I should write this. Lectures aren't super exciting and he knows that, but they're always clear and a great model for note taking. Those notes come in super useful for his exams, basically one to one questions. Recommend
Only take this guy as your last resort. He will shoo away your questions with wrong answers he didn't think about. Your grade will not reflect your understanding of the class. You can only have 100% or less than 90%. If you miss one question on one quiz and one on the 1st exam, you will have a 90% in the course despite getting more than 90% right.
This guy doesn't care about a single student of his. When class ends nobody wants to leave more than him. He will walk out of the room and go home while students are still asking him questions about his awful lecture. It's pretty telling that the only review on here that mentions having a conversation with him is in the parking lot.
He should give out a study guide. His lectures are dry with repetitive examples and doesn't try to insert any personality. Attendance is not mandatory, but go on the quiz days. I felt like i was studying for hours for only to be asked some of the examples that i studied, gives partial credit but i felt like everyone had no clue what they were doing
He isn't the greatest professor by any means but the class and material is very straight forward. Go to each class and just follow along with his whiteboard work. Exams/quizzes are very similar to the ungraded homework he provides. Use the homework as your study guide and you'll be fine. Lectures can be boring but he tries to keep it fun and light.
Terrible class. Got an A but it was miserable. Frequently wrong in lectures both in calculations and providing formulas (how?!). Hw assignments have wrong answers. I feel like I got the bare minimum out of calc 3 while getting the maximum stress. Don't take this class if you care about your education. Greg L(ast Resort)arson.
Loved him! He explained things outside of class and if he messed up a problem/had an error he made an effort to fix it (sometimes by providing extra credit). I think he is more used to higher level math classes, so if you are not as good with math you may want a different professor or just have to put in a little more effort.
Math 120: Professor Larson is a good teacher but sometimes the notes are hard-textbook was recommended but I never bought it. He has two lectures of notes a day and quizzes are every week; (if you're really nice you can ask him to look it over before you submit). No assigned homework. Exams are really tough but if you meet with him he will help you
