He was awful! He didnt explain things at all and got mad if you didnt know things. Only 2 people passed his first test. What does that tell you. He is obsessive about role and yells alot! AVOID HIM at all costs!!!
Stay away from his class!!! He is a horrible teacher! He never explains things and expects you to know things he never even mentioned in class. It is impossible to do well in his class. Find a better math teacher!!! Trust me!
very unorganized...not sympathetic..1/2 class didnt pass first test...doesn't give study guides..assignes homework btu collects it once in a blue moon...take a differnt teacher!
One of the worst teachers in my three year history at cuesta. He missed almost a month of class due to personal illness or family issues. LATE every day when he did decide to show up. Homework was a mess. Stay away from this teach.
He is the worst teacher. He doesn't expalin anything and expects you to know everything. He is very unorganized and very mean. His tests are spaced 6 weeks apart, he doesn't teach anything, and then half of the book is on the test. AVOID HIM
he is the worst teacher I have ever had. I've always gotten A's or B's in math, and I barely squeezed a C this time. He expects you to know things he doesn't even mention in class. He expects you to remember EVERYTHING you learned from your previous math class...GET REAL!!! AVOID HIM..TRUST ME
I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING THE OTHER RATERS SAID.
This guy was rediculous. Avoid at all costs.
contrary to what everyone else rated him as i thought he was one of the coolest math teachers ive ever had....granted the class is very hard and ive never been good at math....but he explains**** better than most i think...he applies the math to examples u can understand...like i said i SUCK at math but i ended up with an A plus he allows you to do an extra credit assignment at the end of the semester to supplement ur grade.
I HATED him. He was probably the worst teacher I have EVER had. I didn't understand a thing he said and when i asked questions to try to help myself out he would make me more confused. He expects you to know everything and doesn't really care if you don't understand what the hell he is saying.
Overall, I believe he is a great teacher. I find no trouble in following what he is saying, or understanding the material. He does tend to go a little faster than I'm used to, though.
He seems like a really nice guy, but he cant teach it very well. He seems to think you should know it already and almost the entire time i have no idea what he is saying or doing. His lectures are completely random!! The notes are difficult to understand because he strays so much off topic. Also he does show you how to do it, he shows you how not to do it and then shows you the basic concept but no explaination or formula. There is a lot of homework that you only can do by reading the chapters well.
Worst teacher I have ever had. He is very random and confusing. When he actually shows up, he is late. A mentally handicapped student came in to our class to ask a question and he made fun of him in front of the entire class. Avoid him no matter what.
i struggled through the class, thought i wasnt going to do well, the tests were kind of hard, and hes not very clear in his teaching. these reviews are misleading though, hes not as bad as he seems. you just have to actually study hard and you'll do well. i expected a c, but ended up with a b
this fool sucks. fo real dont ever take him he has crazy stories about numbers in the forest and****. dont waste your time or money wait a semester to take math to avoid this chump.
Don't take him...don't
i wish i had read the ratings before i took his class. he spends more time telling stupid stories than teaching and he is not very clear. there are only 9 questions on his tests so if you miss one you are screwed. he is really nice but not a good teacher. dont waste your time you wont learn anything
The truth behind the rumors: Lewis teaches you his method (integration by form) to use before trying u-sub. He insists you try it his way, but can use u-sub if you need to or after the first test. However, his way is easier than u-sub. You can look at a problem and just know the answer without doing work. That, to me, seems much better.
Lewis explains the material very clearly. Calculus is hard regardless. He is extremely willing to help you outside of class. There are no surprises on tests. If you go to class every day (you have to in this class) and do the hw every night, and ask him questions if you don't get something, this class is an easy A. Lewis is a very helpful professor
If someone tells you they didn't enjoy Greg Lewis as a teacher, they need their head examined!! The enthusiasm he has for the subject is infectious! He will go over a concept repeatedly in different ways until everyone gets it. He is the most available and approachable professor I've ever come across!! He makes math make sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This guy is great! take his class. if you do all of the homework and try to understand the work, it's an easy A. the guy will help you and the tutors will too. he's very friendly and keeps everything exciting. just wear a jacket and uggs cuz its really cold! but yeah definitely take him.
math42 is ALOT of material: Lewis is hard to understand and wastes a lot of time. if the class is not interested in learning that day, he wont teach it. this was a horrible class for me. he was unhelpful and gave short, difficult tests. also rude at times. i had to retake math42 with a new teacher- found it a lot better.
This man is amazing, I had him for 65a and b and would take him for every math class if i could. He was a mechanic out of highschool which helps him make something like calc seem practical and useful. Take him for sure. the math 42 classes hate him b/c he expects alot, and honestly is preparing them for calc and diffy-q classes
Lewis always veers of topic. Every test i thought a was going to do great on, I completed every homework assignment that he asked and did not miss a single day. His tests are ridiculous. They are only 10 questions and the majority of them are the hardest questions from each section (which we spent the least amount of time on). Do not take.
Lewis is a pretty goofy guy, but he's a really good teacher. He will go off topic for 20 minutes explaining a scenario and then somehow incorporates it with the math he's about to teach you. He has a very unique teaching style but if you pay attention in class you will realize he's a really good teacher. He's all about the skeleton t-shirts too!
Worst math teacher ever. I took AP Calculus in high school and aced the class. I feel horrible for all the students that have never taken a calc class before. He constantly goes off topic about nothing, ignores accepted calc practices and his test are ridiculous. They dont have anything to do with calculus but random algebra tricks. DONT TAKE HIM!!
Greg is a pretty good math teacher. I took a similar class in high school and failed it, but Im doing well in his class. He makes all of the concepts understandable and will help you if you need it. I enjoyed his class and even tries to make math fun with a few jokes and games every now and then. He also knows a lot of math history.
I have never had a worse teacher, I came to every class, did all of the homework (even though he hardly ever collected it), and still failed the class. Took it this semester with a different teacher, I have one of the highest grades in the class, no thanks to him. To put it simply, take a different teacher.
This professor is definitely old-school. He expects you to work hard for a C. To get an A or B, you have to own the material. His tests are not excessively hard, but are not predictable. He will challenge even the best math students - to pass, you definitely need to comprehend the material. Collects no HW, but DO IT anyway! Props to Lewis.
What I like about Greg Lewis is that he teaches at a good pace for me since I do not understand math problems right away. He talks very loud which can be very good if your taking a morning class. He can feel intimidating at times and he can make you feel stupid with his "Math Zero" comments. I Still don't how I passed his class though.
Greg was really nice and helpful throughout the whole class. Class is pretty fast paced but he'll help however possible if you ask for it. First time in my whole life that I've gotten a grade better then a C in math!
So, I would go to lecture and I followed everything he did. Then, I went to do the homework, and most of the time, what he said related sort of to the lecture, but you have to figure out A LOT on your own. He expects students to bend over backwards for his class. He is a really cool guy, but I don't benefit from his teaching style.
I took Lewis for Math265A and hated him but I actually liked how he taught Math265B. It's one of the hardest undergraduate math classes and he made it easily passable. You have to be an idiot to fail his class, dont blame Lewis if you failed his class it's your dumb fault. All you have to do is put in an effort and you will easily pass
He's not my dad, but I wish he was. I took his summer school course over a year ago, and I'm glad I did. I thought he was well structured and clear about the math. He's human though--he fu$%@d up his own math regularly. He was very approachable outside of the class, and always willing to help if needed. I've had far worse math teachers since 127
Presents the material well. Assigns but doesn't collect homework. Your only grades are 4 tests totaling 400 points and a 200 point final. I found his tests weren't extremely difficult but not predictable. Do the homework and follow the notes and a B is easily attainable.
I am not a math person. However, I passed Lewis' class with an A, and all it takes is paying attention, taking good notes, and asking questions. He is challenging; he's gruff on the exterior; however, inside, he's the nicest guy. He's always willing to help any struggling student if they show they care. A liberal arts major recommends him!
Lewis is great! You definitely need to go to class and do at least most of the homework. He has his own way of doing things, but if you follow along, his ways really do tend to work better and faster. Thorough, experienced and awesome.
Funny guy, says "sh!t" numerous times everyday. Good instructor, but his class isn't very fair (grade based on 4 tests and 1 final only, no hw, quiz, participation grade). Took this class in the morning during my hs senior year. Worked fairly hard and got an A!
At first I thought he was a good teacher, then he was absent for 3 weeks for family issues which are understandable. But after that he's been doing a lot of cramming and sprung a test on us out of nowhere. He has no office hours, emails, and isnt good with contact.
Lewis is hands down the BEST math teacher I have ever had. He teaches you in a way your bound to understand, and if you don't, he makes sure you utilize the proper resources (including him) to learn the material. My only recomendation is that you give him at least a week to warm up to you, and really let his colors show.
In my opinion, he's the best math teacher at cuesta. He'll prepare you for subsequent math classes better than any other teacher there.
Super approachable. Really helpful. Swears a lot. Assigns HW, but doesn't grade it. Grade is based on the tests and final only.
best math teacher i've ever had. everything was explained very clearly. he is tough but if you show up and pay attention you can get a good grade. he wants you to do well. i highly recommend taking him for intermediate algebra.
At first i didnt know what to make of him and i thought his teaching style was kind of weird- but Mr Lewis really does a good job telling you what he wants on the test and is willing to help if you talk to him one on one. He doesnt give answers to the practice tests though, which makes them kind of pointless. Came in hating math and left with an A
Not approachable, makes fun of your questions. Confusing. only has 5 tests with 10 questions on each one, attendance and homework are not included in your grade. I got A's in my pervious college math classes, and i will probably get a D in his class. DON'T TAKE HIM!
Lewis Is one of the best Math teachers i have ever had.. No wait, THE BEST math teacher! He is wonderful during his office hours and answers all questions about the subject. 242 is a very hard section! Lewis is an all around cool guy and wants the best for his students. Tests only have 10 questions because they take longer to answer.
He's often loud and even rude at times. He liked to get off topic and talk about his own life a lot and often couldn't fit everything into one class period. But still gave us the homework on the stuff we hadn't learned! He also likes to teach things his own way and not the way the book and everyone else does, making stuff I had learned before hard.
By far my favorite professor at Cuesta. Very funny, and extremely helpful. He has office hours everyday to help his students. Grades are consisted of four tests and a final. In order to get an A, study a lot and do all the homework assigned. Amazing teacher.
The Best math teacher ever! he taught in a way i understood. if you didnt understand one way, he would teach you another way. very helpful, fun and relaxed. I like how he did not put up with nonsense.
If you have the option, avoid lewis to teach this subject. You will have a very hard time in the class if you are not a math major. He is the worst teacher ever and I never had anyone in my class say one thing good about him. Do not take Lewis for Stats!
cool guy, bad teacher. you're pretty much on your own from the beginning of the semester. all the lectures seem to do is add to the already confusing statistics class. he's not very invested in helping the students pass. obvious that this class is the last thing on his mind once he leaves the classroom. i don't recommend taking his stats class.
I enjoyed his lectures. The problems he would do during them were exactly what he put on the test. He even gave us practice tests the class before exams that had the same problems as on the exams. We didn't use a calculator the whole semester and that should give you an idea of his teaching style. I swear I should have got a B but he gave me an A.
Professor Lewis is a fantastic guy. His class is hard. If you follow along and ask questions, especially in office hours, he will help you a ton. I'd recommend him to any real students. Community college is for saving $ not goofing off. Warning: only three people (of 30) had As by the end. He doesn't curve but he doesn't use +/- either. Love him!
Lewis is a teacher for students who aren't sniveling, lazy, children. Any adults who take his class who understand the amount of work required for math classes should be able to succeed and truly learn the subject matter he teaches. He has a lot of real world application to detail why math is important.
I would not recommend taking the class. We spent 7 weeks on the easiest chapters then crammed the last few chapters. He isn't very clear or helpful. He has office hours but i had no idea what to ask him, "Hey Lewis, can you please explain to me everything in the past two chapters? No? Ok cool." He's not a mean guy, but not helpful either. 4/10
Statistics is hard. Accept that, attend lecture, and do the homework. He knows what he's talking about, he's taught this for a long time and he knows how to make things clear. Take advantage of his office hours and ask questions. He expects a lot from you, but hey, this is college.
Go to class and pay attention to what he puts on the board for examples, the test are almost identical. Pay attention! He can be unclear when you ask questions and what he expects. He wasnt a bad teacher by any means but the class isn't easy. Or that interesting. And yes, he crammed a lot in last minute compared to the first few weeks. Be prepared.
Alright dude, but terrible teacher. Possibly the worst teacher I've ever had, at least for math. His tests don't match the HW at all. The only good thing about his class is that 65% is a C and there's no +/-, but he doesn't curve and HW doesn't even count toward your grade, only exams and final. Avoid him if you can.
He is a pretty cool teacher. I don't know why everyone on here doesn't like him, if you want to pass his class you just go to the test prep before every test and you are able to review previous tests he has given. If you study and ask questions it should be an easy class.
I've never had such a bad math teacher before. He's incredibly unclear and I've never been a person whose bad at math. From day 1, I didn't understand what he was talking about and it's so hard to talk to him because he makes you feel dumb. I would never recommend him to anybody whose trying to pass stats with a decent grade, you won't even get a C
You're going to have to teach yourself in this class. Most of Lewis' test problems are way harder than they were in the homework or in the notes. Lewis often comes to class scattered and preoccupied with his other business. He assigns homework but never collects it, and most of our grade was entirely based on the three tests and final.
Math is my least favorite subject, and this class was hard, but I liked it for the study skills it required me to acquire, and also he is always available for office hours, USE THEM. He will walk you through everything, and there is also a tutor who speaks "fluent Lewis" and will thoroughly prepare you, use the resources at Cuesta, they're worth it
One of the worst teachers I've had in terms of presenting material. Jumps around in lectures, starts problems and then forgets about them, starts defining a key term and gets sidetracked and never finishes explaining, uses examples that in real life don't illustrate the methods used. You'll have to learn through the book and the paid tutor he uses
Best math teacher ever. The examples he gives in class are almost identical to what he puts on his tests, and the practice tests he give are basically the same as the test to (slightly different numberswords). If you take his class, the "Stats Fairy Godmother" study group is a must. You can't fail if you go and really study the notes she gives you
Good solid professor. I had him for statistics and even though the lectures were 3 hours long (summer session) they were interesting and full of real world examples.
I used to love math, now I hate it. Such a tough class. His lectures are hard to understand. Will ask a question then answer it in 2 seconds without giving the glass a chance to answer or even think about it.
Worst teacher at Cuesta. It is clear that he doesn't have any desire to teach this subject. He moves at an idiotically fast pace for a basic-level math class, and makes you feel like an idiot if you ask a question. Don't expect to get any help from his office hours considering he saves all of that time for his stats classes.
I'm surprised at all the negative ratings on Greg.. He is a good professor! Yeah, the class is tough, but it's stats.... He cares about his students and will explain after class if you're confused. Don't be late to class, he hates it and will put all the attention on you. Usually his examples in class are on the test!!! (with different numbers)
Difficult professor for sure! He knows his stuff and will make sure you know it too as long as you put in the effort. Go to class, do the homework, pay attention and ask frequent questions if you don't understand something. The real issue with Greg is that he ONLY grades exams and his exams are very difficult. Not the prof. for the casual student.
Every issue that I had with him he would not have it covered. I would sent him emails and visit him during office hours or before and after class and he was either very unclear or not helpful in the least. He never once responded to any of my emails in all honesty and he is by a large margin the worst professor I've had in my educational career.
You could have the right answer on a test, and he will mark you down for not answering how he wants it, or for NOT giving him information he DIDN'T ask for. You have to have the textbook, but he does not want you to do things the way the textbook does them. He only grades exams. He refuses to check his email. He is the worst teacher I've ever had.
Statistics is HARD! Mr. Lewis challenges his students to achieve that level of work through long lectures and quizzes. One thing I found that was difficult was that he does not communicate through email. Most of the time he is available for his office hours. The entire grade of the class is based off of 4 exams and the Final.
Greg Lewis is scatter-brained. His lectures are all over the place. We went over the same lesson twice. He is also unable to see things from other people's point of view. He ignored my questions because they didn't make sense to him. I took Statistics in high school and never once was I this confused. Stats shouldn't be this hard.
The class is based off of only tests and the final. The material can be difficult, but he only tests you on what he lectures. As long as you go over your lecture notes and do the practice test questions you will pass. If you have any questions you will have to ask him during or after class because he can be hard to get a hold of.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Has a temper and quite often is in a terrible mood. Extremely unapproachable. Doesnt show up to office hours, doesnt communicate through email, will laugh at your questions and not always answer them. Treats the entire class like they are dumb. Tests are hard and his lectures dont correspond to the tests
Super confusing, goes off topic a lot. Had a health condition that prevented me from taking the test told me to take the test or get out of his class. No compassion do not take
You only get graded by 4 testes and the final which counts as 2 tests .. listen heavily and take good notes during lectures he explains what he wants from you and if you don't get the problem right if you were on the right track you get credit. Also do the hand outs he gives , homework isn't like tests the handouts are also he is easy to get a hold
Professor Lewis was actually a pretty good professor. The questions on the test are all straight from practice quizzes or lecture examples almost word for word. Lectures were kind of long, but make sure to take good notes and attend class. He has a very specific way he wants you to show work on a test so make sure to follow that. Easy A with effort
Only grades the tests, often takes questions from the practice quizzes or in class examples so take good notes and study the quizzes!! Wants it done a very specific way, label everything, will give some points if you try even if its wrong. Will not baby you, can be a bit gruff but dont take it personal.
Does NOT use email or Canvas! Is very hard to get a hold of! We are 2 weeks away from the semester ending and he HAS NOT graded anything---- therefore I have not idea what I have! Also DSPS students---- does not work well with them, and has little compassion for them. VERY HARD class if you are not good at math. Is not good at breaking it down.
If you want to be lost in class all the time, take this class! By the way the only thing that ever goes in the grade book is tests so your screwed if you bomb even one test. Also, if your schedule doesnt line up with his office hours, good luck getting in touch with him because he doesnt do emails either.
I truly liked Lewis as a teacher. He made sure his lectures touched onto people's different careers to make it relatable. Has a clear and SPECIFIC grading criteria so, if you follow his worksheets and the answer keys he provides, you WILL PASS! He doesn't grade homework but, thats not an excuse to not do it! Stats can be hard so, take your time
Do. The. Homework. My biggest mistake wasn't doing it. Mr. Lewis' tests are influenced a lot by the homework and review sheets. Mr. Lewis isn't for everybody. The type of student you are really matters because his class can be tough. He's not that scary though! Go to his office hours and study sessions. He can be very funny
he's VERY old school. i think he's still trying to get a handle on how to be an online teacher. lectures are confusing. when you ask him to clarify he's too busy. Do not take his online class!!
Had him back in spring 2020 for stats. I knew from the first few classes that his teaching style would not work for me, it's very antiquated and he's impossible to get ahold of, said he only had an email because the school required it and he wouldn't check it. Only grades for tests, not homework, and his lectures seemed very rambling and unclear.
I did struggle in this class periodically. But luckily, prof. Lewis was happy to help, he knew as well the class wouldn't have been easy as well so you always gotta ask questions to him personally and he'll be there to help and make your life easier! Personally, I did enjoy his class & his energy he'd bring for the class to keep us in a good mood.
Do Not take this class if you struggle with math. He doesn't use canvas or give you anything supplemental to help you out. He says he has office hours and is willing to help but if you don't understand it he just makes you feel not smart. He doesn't break anything down so you feel like you are trying to catch up the whole time.
