He's great for Anatomy wouldn't reccommend taking him for Physiology. Doesn't seem to know the material and confuses the students.
I thought this was a great class, even though it's not my area (I'm into history). He's very clear and knowledgable. I think the low ratings are from students who did poorly, which would happen if you don't study. This is a tough subject, but an A is possible with hard work.

DO NOT take this class with Mr Loftin. His tests are mainly essay, and he adds his own meaning to what is in the textbook and expect a pre medical field student to relay the information back to him on his tests as if he is teaching future physiologists. He is very consedencing when asked a question and talks to you in a way to may you feel stupid
I did not care for him at all nor has anyone else that I know who has had him.I am an A-B student and I failed his test and dropped his class because his lectures and labs are not clear at all and he is not helpful the least bit.How can he expect the students to stay awake when he is LITERALLY falling asleep in front of the class during a lab.
This is the worst professor I've ever encountered. The material would make perfect sense when I read it myself. Then when he explained it, I was totally confused. I have a 4.0 and was FAILING his class and dropped. I would have done better learning it on my own. There's no criteria to get full points on an essay, just what he thinks you "earned."
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thought this man was a jerk. A combination of his attitude and arrogance is what kills this class. He is very condescending and not much help for the student that needs it. Studying wasn't a problem, I studied, I'm just not a "science" person and he wasn't at all helpful!
I would not recommend Professor Loftin's classes to ANYONE! He brags about having the hardest A&P class in K.C. I expected it to be difficult, but not so difficult that only 5 out of 40 students are left to take the final. That is not a very good success rate, and not worth bragging about; if you ask me.
NO NO NO. This is the worst teacher by far. If you are concerned about your GPA, stay far and clear of Mr Loftin. "There are no dumb questions" he says, until you ask one and he makes you look like an idoit. He was turned down at Penn Valley to teach, do not sign up with this man, use Carole Schroeder...
I love science and thought that General Biology would be pretty easy. Was I wrong or what? I ended up with a C. He set a record this semester for most people dropped in my Biology class alone.
He was very hard, but cared about how students did in his class.
Total I do not care if you fall or not or if your are trying to understand this class.
Let's be honest, the human anatomy is anything but easy and I am thankful for teachers like Mr. Loftin who give their students (many likely to enter a health field) all the information they need instead of some easy A, walk in the park version of a foundational class. Was it easy? No, but it's not supposed to be!
Well, if you read the bad comments for Professor Loftin and take them as truth you are heading down the wrong path. While this class was hard and required dedication and hard work, I learned a lot! If you are taking anatomy and don't have the time to study, don't except to earn a good grade. This professor is excellent at telling you what you ne
He is hard, but fair and has average expectations, the classes he teaches are not easy but if you study and go to class, it is an easy B with knowledge you will use for a lifetime.
Prof Loftin is a fair teacher, but he is also very tough. His curriculum is the hardest, because it is a cumulation of prior students telling him which areas he needed to cover more. In his class if you want really learn the material, you really have to work hard for it.
Although I earned an A in the class, this was an extremely difficult semester. I never had any problems with him, but he often spoke condescending to the other students in the class when they asked questions. You definitely have to study hard and motivate yourself in this class to pass.
Irrogant, condensending, rude.
He humiliates people when he speaks down to them and is rude-doesn't exactly encourage anyone else to ask questions when they see their classmates humiliated. He has no tolerance for ignorant people who expect to pass; you HAVE to work very hard. But, isn't that what college is supposed to be anyway? If you really want to learn, he's your guy!
He was truly awful, on the essay portion of the test is where you will bomb. If you answer too much or too little points off. He calls you 'children' and belittles everyone. Horrible teacher, I am studing my ass off, and I will end up with a B.
he is pretty mean. I thought it was just me but later found out other students dont like him either. so if you decide to take his class then good luck ! i dropped.
While sciences are not my forte, I consider myself an excellent student. I have a BA and have taken classes from a variety of institutions and instructors. Prof. Loftin makes learning an unpleasant experience. He teaches entry-level physiology as though it were the end-all subject. I would give this rating regardless of my grade (B).
I took physiology with him about a year ago and hated this man from Day 1. He is a creep! He teaches this lower level class as though it is a graduate class. Ridiculous! Do not take any of his class unless you like RUDE teachers.
he's knowledgeable about the material but not of how 2 teach. He makes the students feel stupid 4 asking a question or answering 1 wrong. u really have work ur butt off and i know that's how college goes but it's still difficult other biology class under your belt this is not made for freshmen even tho there r no pre reqs
He is a really hard teacher! I worked very hard and barely got by. His essays on his tests, yeah good luck! His teaching style was just not for me. I am so happy that the class is over and I never have to go again!
Obviously knows the stuff...teaching style is hard to follow...can be rude at times...NOT a good professor to take your first semester of college
I hate this teacher. He's extremely rude, his teaching style is crap, he says we can leave lab if we feel like it but then looks at us like we're trash when we do. Gets upset when we say that we can't study because of the noise. He doesn't help us prepare for a test very well at all. If I have to take this class next semester I won't be in his!
I have a 3.85 grade average. I failed my first lab AND first lecture tests. I talks to his students in a way that is demeaning. Teachers should be helpful, instructional, supportive, even in a COLLEGE setting. This guy is all about showing his students how much he knows, not about helping the students learn. What a jerk!!
As a person he's kinda weird but you get to appreciate it. He is an extremely smart man and you will wonder why he's not a doctor. BUT, he is the most worthless teacher. We have 3 lecture tests and 3 lab tests and pop quiz's. Out of the 27 people in my lab there are now 8 of us left. I'm a smart girl and I study my a** off. I still have a D.
demeaning to students, pop quizzes, boring lectures, gets sidetracked, you're on your own... AVOID THIS TEACHER!
He is the toughest teacher I've ever had. He promotes study groups...I spent hours studying and barely made a B. I would have dropped the class if I had known how tough it was going to be. The entire class struggled. Take another teacher for this class if at all possible. He makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. His tests are horrible!
He is a really hard teacher, but this is a really hard subject. Most people taking this class are going into the allied health sciences which mean it is only going to get harder as you continue. He really wants to prepare you and teach you how to study. If you take his advice you will do good but if you just want to mess around don't take him.
Requires 9 chapters on each exam, lectures one class period on 2-4 chapters at a time, if you do not learn every word in the text you will fail exams. Example:on one exam he asked about a word that was only mentioned once in the book. I missed the WORD. Learn from my expensive mistake and avoid him at all costs. He should be fired!
Human Anatomy is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT! Don't take this class unless you're going into the allied health sciences. With that said, Loftin is very knowledgeable on the subject. He isn't respectful and if you ask a question, he will look at you like you're stupid, but he WILL answer any question you ask and correctly. Difficult class, difficult tests.
OMG! Very difficult! He expects way too much out of his students. I guess he thinks that none of us have jobs or other things to take care of in life. Only two out of 35 passed this class this semster! Disrespectful towards students but I really believe he doesn't mean to be.
Very hard. Doesn't believe in lamens terms at all. Speaks very fast..GET A RECORDER if you are taking this class!! Lots of essays on tests! I love science classes and am a fairly intelligent person and he just made me feel stupid!!
Not a good TEACHer! Tries to be tricky. Too much material on each of the only THREE tests given besides the final. High drop out rate. Grades tests inaccurately! Immpossible to get an A let alone pass. Majority of students don't learn from him. He should be fired.
HARD CLASS!!!! I studied like crazy for my B. Gave extra credit for group work- the only nice thing he did all year. Can not relate to people, and thinks he knows everything. Tries to be funny and completely fails. half the class dropped the first week. Most work I have EVER done for a B. Do not take this class, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! I am in his class right now and I think of myself as a very smart person. He never teaches in order.. One day we worked on the skeletal system and then in lecture he talked about cells.. He is very confusing. When you ask him questions he will look at you like you are retarded! ugh!!! hate this class!
I was a straight A student in high school and have very high expectations for myself in college, but this guy is a joke. He be-littled me during the first lab because i asked a question about how to work the miscroscope because i never previously used one. He is very sarcastic and makes you feel dumber than a box of rocks. Ill try my best to pass.
Never take Bio with Loftin!!!!!!!!!!! You will regret it. Too sarcastic and a "know it all". Makes you feel completely stupid. Very intimidating.
Talks kind of fast, makes lame jokes, acts pernicious at times in order to belittle students. Still an easy A for a summer class. Seems like a lot of people are commenting on the level of difficulty, I didn't have much trouble. I'm a student at MU, so the difficulty level was quite a bit less than what I'm used to.
Horrible, I'm not a bad student but he was out of control. Very hard, made lame jokes, made it hard to pay attention and rude when asked a question. Uses big words like you have been through the class before. Don't Take him, you'll regret it.
I'm a straight A student who already has 1 bachelors degree & am returning to obtain my 2nd bachelors degree. This is by far the worst class I've ever took. I failed the first 2 or the 4 tests given. He never gives full points for anything & always uses complex explanations that nobody gets. I would HIGHLY recommend NEVER taking a class with him.
Worst instructor. I have ever had. He tells you that you don't need to worry about some parts of the chapter and then puts them on the test. He ridicules you if you ask a question. Stupid, lame jokes are his forte. Do not take any of his classes if you can help it.
Tests over 10 chapters worth of material in 1 test. Gives no idea of what will/won't be on the test, you end up wasting half of your time studying things that won't be anywhere on the test. In muscles, he assigns 100 muscles + origins, insertions, actions, nerves, etc. even though the other teachers only assign the muscle and maybe action.
Mr Loftin was intimidating at first. I just determined that I would apply myself, and communicate any concerns to him. That strategy worked great! Though a lot of people dislike him, I really like him. You have to talk to him and study 3-4 hrs a day for sure to succeed. Record lectures because his notes are golden for all tests and quizzes!
There is a problem when you start out with 32 students and end up with 10. 8 of 10 students are hoping to pass with a C. Do not take his class, even if it is the only option possible, because you will waste your money, time, and will regret it! By far the worst teacher I have ever had.
This is a hard class. He is not that bad as most people say. If you pay attention to what he enphasizes, you will know whats gonna be in the tests. take good notes. if he writes something on the blackboard, pay attention and take note! ohh he'll ask you to study in groups, so try to find some smart people, and just study a lot!!
Dont take any class with him. Wait if you have to. He's tests are what get you because almost nothing from his notes are on the test. Also he yells when he gives notes.
This is not an easy class or grade, but I didn't expect it to be. It's COLLEGE. His jokes are corny, he talks fast, and you have to read between the lines. He will tell you that you can leave the lab to see who will stay later. He will say you can ignore parts of the text to see who will read it. The grade you receive is the grade you earned.
This teacher almost ruined my 4.0 GPA. I studied well, & failed all his quizes. I retook the class w/ WASMER & got an A+. I still had to study hard, but Wasmer made sense. Loftin is the hardest teacher ever,he doesn't care if you fail.
I took his class twice and had to withdrawl both times. It was hard.He is sarcastic and doesnt like to answer questions. The class has 3 test and 1 final there is to much information on one test.
This class IS very demanding but not impossible to get an A. His tests ARE MOST CERTAINLY 95% info you take from LECTURES.Buy a recorder, put it on his desk, use the lecture time to get a working understanding by following along, not just trying to keep up with notes.Take notes at home from recorder. I got an A in this class
Many people think this teacher is unreasonable or too hard, but he is amazing. He is training the future doctors and nurses of the country with this class, and he wants to make sure you know the material in and out. He is an amazing teacher.
Takes everything too fast, and acts like you are suppose to know everything prior to the human anatomy class. This is the worst experiance for a teacher I have ever had, PSU has way better teachers, that actually care, more than half the class has either dropped or doesnt wanna show up to this guy's lectures its ridiculous, Dont take his course.
Mr. Loftin is the best teacher I have ever had! I'm just now finishing my first semester of nursing school and I think he really prepared me for success! No,his classes are not a walk in the park but Loftin taught me more than I could have gotten from any other teacher. He wants to challenge you because he wants you to be successful in what you do.
Loftin is not a teacher. He is a gatekeeper. He is most successful at making the class harder than it already is. He selectively shares information and only if you ask the right questions. Prepare to be publicly belittled when you do. He claims to produce successful students, but that is only counting the minority who manage to pass his class.
Very knowledgable on his subject, but very unclear about his tests and what you need to know. Needs to realize people have a life! He was a HUGE waste of my money!! So not happy with him. Half the class dropped out midway through semester. We deserve better teachers for our money! Dont take LOFTIN!
very high drop rate for this class. Smart man, but lousy teacher. Avoid him at all costs.
I was definitely challenged in his class but I loved it. I learned more than I ever would have otherwise and he was always willing to take the extra time to help me. I went to the learning center, met with the anatomy tutor and then came to open lab for 2hrs on Friday. Put in the extra time and you should do well.
Many reviews on here are bad, but I took his class anyway. He is an amazing instructor, tho loud at times. He explains things in such a way that anyone could understand. He is VERY clear on what you need to do.
Loftin expects you to do your part. He is very passionate about our future medical professionals, and therefore will not give away A's, or hold your hand. You have to earn it. This was a very hard class, but if you take good notes, work with a study partner, and apply yourself, you will walk out well-educated. We need that in the health profession!
He is a horrible professor. He makes you feel stupid and is very confusing. His tests are very hard. He doesn't portray what will be on the test in his lectures. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF POSSIBLE!!
This has been the worst experience of my life. Loftin wants you to slave away for this one class and neglect the rest of your life. I take other classes and have not done one thing for them due to the amount of material I had to study for this class. He's confusing, belittling, and has no sympathy for his students. If you have Loftin, RUN AWAY.
He wants you to focus on his class ONLY with all the material, he doesn't care that you have other classes or even a life. He only talks about the pictures in the book and when you ask for help or clarity he makes you feel stupid. Him claiming whats on the exam wont be, and his short answer questions better be written the way he would explain it.
Hardest class I have ever had. If you don't work or take any other classes getting an A is possible but if you don't have time to study all day every day then good luck. I studied a lot but also took 3 other classes including micro. I barely passed with a C.
This is the worst class EVER! I am an A/B student and had no idea that I would need to spend 20+ hours a week struggling to even pass (which I didn't). No study guides, no test prep, no help. If you want to pass the class get in a study group and record his lectures. Best advice - STAY AWAY from this teacher.
Worst teacher I have had doesnt help you or give you any prep info for tests. Expects you to know everything but doesnt put everything on the tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!! He should be removed from teaching very smart man but not a good teacher.
Stay away from this class and save your time and money. Unless you want to be hell the whole time. He only gives 3 test and one final and if you screw up one your grade is finished. I spent every weekend and hours studying and am a straight A student and still barely passed. He is smart but very condescending when it comes to asking questions.
If you are thinking about going into the medical field, take Loftin. He will weed out those who just don't belong. Be objective, not subjective. Don't take offense to his personality. Learn the material. That's what you are there for. This class requires studying and knowing the material. Tests are 95% from class notes, 5% from the book.
Take more general bio classes before this class and def not this teacher if you're not good at just reading the text and taking good notes. Your notes=your study guide. Very unfair. Greg was nice but he's not a good teacher, didn't prepare us well for the tests and had alot more technical things in it. I barely passed and i studied my butt off.
Professor Loftin is one of the best teachers I've had. He knows his stuff, communicates it well, and cares about his students. Expect to work for your grade though - cramming definitely does not work for this class. Best tip for success: RECORD HIS LECTURES and study from them. Tests come straight from the lectures.
I think that Loftin is a great teacher but your grade will not be handed to you, you have to earn it. I suggest recording lectures and taking notes word for word from them. Also do not cut out early from Lab. I also suggest making a person schedule of goals to reach when it comes to learning the bones and muscles.
Professor Loftin is an amazing teacher but he is not going to hand out A's so don't expect that I recommend recording his classes taking notes in class and filling in your notes with the recorded information you will have to study A LOT come in thinking that way this isn't a high school class and should not be rated as if it is WORK HARD and STUDY!
He knows his stuff REALLY well but is not good at teaching it. Is somewhat condescending when answering your questions in lab. Wouldn't recommend. Period.
The Jest of his teaching is not clear. He assigns a very challenging pop quiz every week beware. Only a hand full of students survive his wrath(aka suck-ups). Most challenging class and I got a degree here.
Adjectives of Mr. Loftin: condescending, rude, narrow-minded, unhelpful, judgmental, and boring. I love anatomybiologyscience courses and this professor completely discouraged me from taking another class here. I graduated from MIZZOU with a 3.5 GPA in 4.5 years and over 100 credit hours. I have never experienced such a terrible prof. DON'T TAKE.
Professor Loftin is extremely knowledgeable. His labs are hard, the tests are hard, but in the end you come away with a clear understanding of human anatomy (assuming you can make it to the end. RECORD HIS CLASSES!!! Don't skip lab. Answers questions, but makes you find the answer. Tests come from lectures!!! I will take him for Physiology.
Record his lectures and use the book as a reference. He is an awesome teacher, but he will not hold your hand; you earn your grade!! This is not an "easy A"class, hence YOU NEED TO STUDY TO PASS! If you study your recorded lectures, you will do fine. Also the lab questions are a little tricky, so pay close attention to them!
Loftin is the HARDEST teacher I have ever had. He makes you work for your grade, and doesn't give you give partial credit. Make sure to read the chapters, and rewrite your notes if you want any chance of passing the quizzes. Also, he doesn't believe in extra credit or curving grads. Some kids recorded him, but I couldn't listen to him 2times a day.
He is absolutely the hardest instructor I've ever had, but he challenged me to excel. He will not hold your hand, and he will make you work for a good grade. Recommended to record lectures and study them. Test are mainly based off lecture, while lab practicals are tricky. Follow instructions on short answer to a tee, "Data Dumping" will cost points
It is possible to get an A! I am living proof. Hardest professor I have ever had, but I will tell you that I truly learned anatomy. Record every lecture verbetim, and put it onto notecards than memorize the notecards. He will want test answers written the way he says them. I got an A on every lecture test and quiz this way. I never used the book.
You will learn your anatomy! Loftin comes off as mean, but is actually a nice person. He kindly has open lab almost every Friday. The only way to pass the lab tests is if you go to the extra lab! I barely opened the book. His tests are straight from lectures. Record his lectures, study your notes, go to the extra lab. I got an A, and you can too!
TAKE NOTES. Use your pictures/models, notes, and related info in your book to study. Don't worry about reading the entire chapter like he tells you. As soon as I figured that out my test scores improved by a letter grade each test. Study each night because he loves pop 10 question quizzes. He is not easy to get help from or ask questions to.
Very tough grader. Record the lectures because you cannot and will not catch everything he says the first time around. I had him for anatomy and physiology. Be VERY specific with essay questions or you'll miss lots of points. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he will usually answer questions more clearly than he originally lectures.
Very lazy. Will pile 200-300 pages of material into one test. Toughest grader I've had. Somewhat unhelpful when asked for clearification. Overall wouldn't recommend unless you are only taking one class a semester.
I am an A and B student, struggled with this class, makes it think his class is the only class that matters, recorded his lectures and took notes didn't help, even on labs he doesn't try to give you a full grade, he's picky, he expects you to remember Chemistry and other Bio classes, You're better off Steven Lewis though he's a bit tough too.
He is literally the worst professor I have ever had. I do NOT recommend anyone to take Loftin. He is sarcastic, rude, extremely arrogant and disrespectful to his students. This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, not because of the material, because of his teaching skills. His tests are extremely hard. He's horrible. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Provides unsupportive and non-constructive feedback. Lectures follow constant tangents, and additional assistance is nonexistent.
Horrible person, teacher, etc. He is very arrogant and expects everyone to have their masters in zoology. Gives 5 question pop quizzes every week and comes up with the hardest questions. Tests are the worst thing you can imagine. If you have a life and can't study 24/7, don't take this guy. This class should not be this hard.
He does not care about his students. He even stated that if he does not like a class he will structure the tests to be more difficult so you don't want to get on his bad side, but I don't think he has a good side. We started with about 50 students at the beginning of the semester and ended with 5 and I think only 1 person passed
Professor Loftin is great. This subject is hard to begin with, so study. If you are a serious student, then you know you need to read the material before next class period, study your notes and be prepared. His pop quizzes are mainly from his lecture, so record the lecture and fill in your notes. Be ready to hit the ground running from day one.
Professor Loftin is a university level professor. This class is hard, so lots of studying is needed. The labs are fun, read instructions carefully. Record lectures, study and understand the material. Commit to a study group and review the lecture for pop quizzes. knowing the material is required to pass exams. It is possible to pass with an A.
I'm okay with being challenged. What I'm not okay with is having a bad teacher. I feel as though Professor Loftin is condescending, impatient, and LAZY (no interest in helping students). He strikes me as somebody that dislikes his job. I would NOT recommend him to anybody, nor would I knowingly take any course that he was teaching in the future.
I took his class his Fall and I had to drop it. He doesn't use powerpoints, so you really have to attend class. He also speaks insanely fast, so if you miss something.. don't bother asking. He'll make you feel stupid. As far as lab, you're on your own. He gives you no sort of guidance other than telling you where the models are. Worst teacher yet.
This guy is garbage. Have no idea why he is still teaching. Might as well teach yourself. Because Loftin will certain not teach you. Definition of a guy who is only teaching for a pay check. Does not care for his students at all, will insult you if you have a question. Find any other teacher and file a complaint to the dean. Worthless experience.
Really hard class. Take it seriously.
Lectures are all over the place and very unorganized. You will have to record the lecture and go back and listen to it and retake notes, because it is impossible to catch everything he says. He makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. Would not recommend him to anyone.
This is a hard class but it is a good class. Record the lectures so you can fill in your notes. Go to extra labs he has open. He will answer any question you have and help you. Find a study group and plan on studying at least 15 hours outside of class. We had extra credit on all tests. If you are prepared you will do well. I enjoyed the class.
Do not take him. His lectures don't follow his tests. He makes you remember so much. If you don't write whatever he says down the first time he gets irritated when he has to repeat a name. He makes you feel stupid too. Every other day in class was a pop quiz and there was a question about something that doesn't matter. Like Darwin's ship name.
I am an A average student & have never had a problem focusing on school & balancing my studying. He expects you to know things that aren't applicable to any study you may be going into. He belittles students & makes you feel dumb if he has to repeat himself. Very unorganized & doesn't put in effort during lectures. He doesn't explain anything well.
This is a tough class, but it is very doable. Professor Loftin provides many extra credit oppurtunities and has an open lab almost every Friday. I dedicated around 5 hours outside of class each week to studying. After lectures, compare your notes with a classmate's to fill in the gaps. I feel like I learned a lot from his class. Worth the challenge
This is a very difficult class, but worth the struggle. I learned a lot from this class. The tests are hard & have extremely detailed essay questions, so really know the material. He answered all of my questions & helped me understand concepts. You have to understand the material, not memorize it. There are lots of quizzes. Take notes on everything
I am normally an A/B student and in my two years of college at Missouri State University I have never gotten below a B until this class. He very belittling, his stories are ridiculous and typically negative. He couldn't ever help nor tell me where I was going wrong when I asked for help. His tests have no rubric so it is easy for you to be wrong.
Take detailed notes in lecture and lab, a lot of info is given in lab that you need for tests. Only tests on stuff he covers, but both lecture and lab is heavy with info. I recorded his lecture and labs so I could fill in my notes because he goes way too fast. Utilize the anatomy lab and tutors. Tests are difficult. Nice guy, willing to help.
The absolute worst teacher Ive ever had in my life. He belittled students. He doesnt answer questions. He gets irritated if he has to repeat himself. Id never recommend him.
He teaches like everyone already has a masters in biology. His lectures bounce all over the place, and some things on tests are things that arent even in his lectures. He puts absolutely nothing in the grade book throughout the semester so you have no idea how youre doing in the class. I wouldnt take him again if someone paid me
I took Loftin for Anatomy and it was the most stressful semester of my life. Goes by three big tests, the final, and 12 random quizzes. Started the semester with 45 students, ended with 15. DO NOT take him, not worth the schedule you're looking for.
I would not take this instructor. Our entire class was scared after day 2. His lectures hop all over the place, no real structure. He basically tells you he will put any and everything on the tests. If it is in the book it is fair game, even if he never talks about it. Assumes you will remember everything from prev. science classes. Decided to drop
It is only difficult due to the amount of material you need to know, but all the info is given in lecture/lab (I only used the book to double check things.) His pop quizzes ALWAYS only have questions about the previous days lecture. Offers a lot of extra credit on exams & drops an exam. An A is completely doable if you study exactly what he says.
Lecture AND lab time are almost all lecture. He talks about stuff that doesn't pertain to the course, but quizzes on it. Refused to clarify what to study for upcoming exams, stating everything he says is important and can be tested on. Brags about how many people fail his course. Treats you like you're stupid when you ask questions. Just horrible!!
This class was a real challenge for me, and I have to admit that I've grown so much from it. Anatomy is already difficult itself. However, record his lecture and attend the SI section was super helpful in terms of dealing with him and his tests. All you have to do is figuring out his teaching style!
he is great at sharing the information with the class. but by not using powerpoint, students are unable to take certain notes and may miss key information needed for tests. His study guides for tests are not helpful mostly because he doesn't give one, he just tells students to know the information already given.
I took this course as a prereq for an anesthesia program. It was a hard class, but I am so glad I took it. Download a recorder app on your phone and re-listen to the lectures since he doesnt use slides. He is a great teacher and if you do the work you will gain true understanding of the human body. He is rough around the edges but really cares.
Okay so going from high school to his class was terrible. I got a D in my anatomy class with him. BUT I still heavily recommend his class if you are prepared to take notes and read. Once I figured out how to study I got an A in his physiology class and an A in all science classes after his class. Take notes and highlight what he says in lecture!
Loftin is difficult, for sure, but honestly if you are willing to put in the work his classes are very rewarding. This class has impacted me the most out of any class I've taken in college, and really set me up to ace all my other courses (so far). If you don't put in the work, you will not have a good time. He's also very caring, but he hides it.
With COVID, we had class on zoom. The entire grade is from exams only. He doesn't offer homework, quizzes, study guides-nothing to help retain the TON of info from this class. Tests are over 8-9 chapters at once. Expects you to know it after him mentioning it once. Would never recommend him to anyone. Short answer-Don't do it. Stay clear of him.
Very challenging course. This is our last semester online so it may be different going back to classes in-person again. His syllabus is clear on how he'll grade. No need for a textbook. He tests and quizzes only on things he talks about in class. Definitely get a recording of lectures if he'll allow it. Anything he covers is fair game on exams.
Very difficult classes already. It requires a lot of outside class studying and reading. Hell except you to know 6 chapters by the time you have an exam which is not a lot of time to learn. One of my classmates described him as a level 400 teacher for a level 200 class. Will not take his class again or approach another class in the way I did.
Pop quizzes and tests are fill in the blank. If you do something outside of school good luck. Lecture is hard to follow (bounces from topic to topic). You must understand the information to an absolute T, if you don't then the answer will be wrong. If it wasn't all fill in the blank then the class would be much better. Be ready to study for hours.
I literally watched my whole table drop the class in a single day... If I didn't need this class for my program then I would have been out of here after our first exam. This man lectures even into our lab time and doesn't slow down to answer questions so google is my best friend. If I have any advice for someone to take this class, don't.
RUN!! I don't care how far you have to drive, what you have to do. I am a straight A student and this was by FAR the hardest class I have ever taken in my entire life. Random pop quizzes, never puts in any grades(finals week and there is next to nothing in there), thinks we are all doctors, and if you don't study every single day you will fail!!!
With Mr. Loftin you are expected to be experts when you walk in the door day one. I have never seen so many people drop a class after the first exam and throughout the course EVER. He doesn't give any resources except pics from the book. He takes no accountability for students not doing well, it is all your fault. Trust these ratings and reviews!!
He is extremely nice and knowledgeable. His lecture is EXACTLY whats on the test. The difference between an A and B depends on if you read the book. I studied outside his office, and as he passed by he offered help. He is very tough, but if you plan on going to a 4 yr college next, youll need to know the info he teaches or you wont be passing.
This is 100% the WORST professor I have ever had! Talks down to you like your stupid and that he is so much smarter than you, has hard pop quizzes, and is very test heavy. There were 10 homework assignments and quizzes given all semester which most were given last few weeks. My class started with 30 people and ended with 6 very terrible teacher!!!!
this Professor was very hard for me because he wasnt an easy teacher to listen to. He was always dragging in class very disengaging , as a student.
If you are looking to have the WORST class - the fact its anatomy is irrelevant- of your life! Then enroll with him. Talks long and drawn out, pop quizzes are hard. Lab exams are all filll in the blank. Lecture exams are over 2% of the material he covers. STAY AWAY if you don't want to have a mental breakdown.
"Inconceivable!" Mr. Loftin is an expert and willing to explain anything again. If you are not comfortable with taking notes while listening, then I would consider recording him and listening again later to fill in missed points. If you know his lecture, you know 95% of the exam.
Mr. Loftin is an incredible professor. He knows the material inside and out and explains it in a clear way using easy examples to help with comprehension. This class is very challenging. If you don't choose to work hard and study, your results will reflect it. But it is very possible to achieve a high grade if you put in the work.
Mr. Loftin wasn't very clear about what exactly you needed to memorize, and what exactly you needed to read for each class. He missed multiple classes which made it even harder. If you're confused and ask too many questions, he will ask you a question in return and embarrass you rather than just giving a clear answer.
This instructor is a nightmare. Teaching dull lectures, and a tough course to just weed out students. It doesn't matter how much you study, many bails after 1st test due to how he "teaches". Doesn't prioritize student success, just cares about money. I feel sorry for anyone who has to take his class next. Brace for a rough ride in his class.
Terrible awful horrible
This professor does not hand out hardly any homework. He has about 8-10 quizzes throughout the whole semester that are not worth hardly any points so if you miss one there goes your grade. The tests are very very challenging and over 9 chapters. There are only two tests and one final. Also argues with the book a lot.
This class is advertised as an entry level anatomy class yet he already expects the students to know everything about anatomy. Theres only a couple tests and your entire grade is based on those few tests. No word banks for lab practices that are over 10 different chapters all at once. Don't take if you know nothing about anatomy.
Worst proffesor I have ever had the displeasure of taking, pop quizzes ruined my grade as he never specifies what could be on them. Unit guides are garbage, he refuses to answer questions with a good answer, making you jump through hoops to a question that can be answered with "yes" or "no". Just avoid at all cost I implore you.
Prof. Loftin is an incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate teacher. The class was reasonably difficult, yet completely doable should you follow the weekly homework, readings, and lecture. He was able to teach completely from memory and always found opportunities to share something to engage his student, so long as you engage yourself.
Professor Loftin is a ruthless, condescending grump. He moved UP our exam with a weeks notice because he told us the wrong date. He separates the exams in 2 parts, lecture and lab. For the first lab exam, I scored the class' highest grade at 66%. He does not curve, so no one passed that first lab test. He thrives off of failing his students. Run.
Tough class, but using resources like unstuck AI alongside the textbook can help. Lectures are dense, so stay focused and prepare thoroughly for exams.
Don't take him for any class. He doesn't teach just tells you to read the chapter and then there's a quiz over it every week. The chapter could be 30 pages long and anything in it has a possibility of being on the quiz. His lectures are pointless to the quizzes. The only good thing is at the end of the semester he forgives 3 tests and homework's.
I followed his guideline, did homework, reading, etc and had no problem. You will appreciate how much you learn from this professor once you survive his class, yes if you survive because his classes are not easy. If you are here for easy credits, you found the wrong person. I still appreciate him and things he taught still help me in my profession
One of the worst professors I've experienced, he does not care if your struggling in class, he will just stand there and look at you. As a beginner anatomy class he assumes you should know everything. His lectures are pointless. He doesn't give any study guides to help with his exams.
I have yet to finish this class, but from my experience, I suggest you run as far away as you can from this professor. Our class started with 26, and now has nine people left. If you don't have previous experience you are screwed, but if you do then he will call you out and say you only know 20%. All tests and quizzes are fill in the blank.
he was not a good professor 10/10 do not recommend.
Honestly worst teacher I have had so far. He expects you to memorize every single thing in your textbook gives you a very vague overview of what you need to know. Beware there are tons of pop quizzes. Make sure you never miss his class he doesn't take attendance but you are sure to fail if you miss 2 or more.
One of the worst teachers I've had. Expects you to already have a in-depth concept of anatomy and to memorize everything you learned in a lecture period. Pop quizzes, test heavy, hardly any homework, but homework is to read entire chapters. Tells you to be as specific and descriptive as possible but will count you off points for being too specific.
This class was mentally draining. The professor doesn't teach, yells randomly, bans water, and punishes minor things like holding a pen up to your mouth. Miss one day expect to fail. No support, just pressure. I lost time, sleep, and peace of mind. If you care about your mental health or GPA, stay far away from this class.
This teacher loves biology but he is not good at teaching it, there are constant pop quizzes with no value, and he believes that if you're failing it's your fault entirely and not the way he teaches. He also rarely owned up to mistakes when made on very important tests/exams. Not a bad guy, just not a good teacher.
I enjoy school! But this class... When I stepped inside professor Loftin's class for the second time, (I passed biology 101 with him earning an A), I knew it would be challenging. Something in my mind hoped that anatomy would be different, alas I was disappointed. This class will probably be the most difficult one you take. Find another teacher.
Loftin definitely knows a lot about biology. He's a bit abrasive but some of his remarks are sarcastic and not meant to actually be mean. There are a lot of pop quizzes so READ THE BOOK AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE LECTURES. On exam short-answer questions, you have to use a ton of detail or miss points. I had to work for my A but I learned a lot.
currently taking his class. believe all of the ratings. if there is another professor as an option do not hesitate to switch.
I am currently in his course. He does not post study guides, expects you to read in your free time so forget having a job, during lecture he gets off topic and only posts images from the book for us to memorize.
All the reviews are true; by far the worst teacher I've ever had. He simply doesn't know how to teach a class properly, and you have to reteach yourself everything.
This class is brutal- I expected a challenge, but this was unnecessarily harsh. Exams are open-ended and require extreme detail, but questions are vague. Few homework assignments; grades rely heavily on tests, and yet scores are very low. Feedback is minimal, so expect to be self-taught. If you want clear expectations, take a different professor.
He always started the semester by saying that every class at least 90% of the students drop and I completely understand. He spends the entire class lecturing about things that aren't in the text book and believes that the curriculum doesn't go over enough. So he expects you to know a lot more then you need to.
