He's one of the greatest professors I've had so far. He's funny, and he knows what he's talking about. It's not an easy class, but if you do your work and participate, you'll be fine.

Easy class if your think. It is good because he explains the material so well that you do not have to read teh articles however, be prepared to answer and stress your opinions in class. Intelligent man and makes IH class pretty interetsing.

Amazing teacher, definitely knows his stuff. Very willing to help you with improving your writing. I would reccomend him to anyone who is interested in learning a lot and improving as a writer. Do not go through Temple without taking this man's class!

He is a really great teacher. He explains the readings really well so you don't really have to read all the time. He likes it if you speak up. Really helpful with papers

he explains texts and assignments very well. very clear and fair grading system, not too much work load. he is able to create enjoyable atmosphere in class even when the text is lame.

He is an amazing teacher, actually did not mind getting up for his 840 class. He is a tough grader but he is fair.

A must have teacher while you're at Temple. Not an easy A, but he helps you write your essays. Attend all classes and you get the idea. Very fair, don't be intimidated by him the first day. I loved this teacher. Speak in class and he'll love you too.

great teacher. has interesting insights on the topic and strays from the other comp 50 material which is nice. he brings good discussion to the table and allows students to share their thoughts and ideas. would never be disappointed to have him again

I'm protesting the one person who gave Winch a bad review. Winch is the MAN!! He's really smart and he keeps class interesting. Good discussions, very clear about assignments, freakin hilarious. TAKE HIS CLASS! In the beginning, he say seem strict and kinda mean, but he's not. He's the man!! I love Winch. :) :)

I think I'm in love with Dr Winch. If you have an opportunity to take his class and you don't ... you need to get your head checked.

My favorite class last semester. He keeps the class interested & going. I loved his humor! he's just an awesome guy and i learned so much from taking his class. I deffinetly recommend him! i came on here just to write how great of a teacher he is. oh & you should read the books he gives unless you take really good notes & understand the discussions

Brilliant teacher. Grades fairly, willing to talk endlessly about any minor detail, patient, intelligent, interesting (we did a graphic novel for our second book), however the only drawback is that he doesn't utilize the internet at all. Although that is compeltely offset by his teaching prowess. You are lucky to have this guy if your in his class.

You're leading a sad life if you pass up taking Dr. Winch for English. He's a great teacher, makes friends with his students, cracks jokes, makes class fun ... I'm kinda sad I only got to have him once. He's amazing! Take him! ... Right now! :)

Best professor i have ever had! He can make any topic interesting and he's one of the smartest people i've ever met. I took him twice my freshman year because i liked him so much!

I love Dr. Winch! You will really improve your writing in his class. You must read what he assigns and you must participate in class. If you do these two things and are willing to work on your writing, go for it! - he is brilliant! He's also funny, sarcastic, and entertaining. He is absolutely hot, charismatic and loves teaching. This class rocked!

He was awesome!!! He was so willing to help with papers and would always give a better grade than it seemed you should get. He is not only funny, but teaches things that are useful to real life, unlike the usless media topics from the other English classes. If you get the chance, take him!!

I LOVE PROF WINCH! he was so great. i took him for both 701 and 802. i really improved my writing and learned so much. he was an amazing teacher and I?m considering taking a class i don?t need to have him as a teacher again. You have to read a good amount, but it?s all worth it and interesting. doing work for a teacher you like is easy!!

Winch is a phenomenal teacher. He was intimidating at first, but once you get used to him you quickly realize he's freaking awesome. He challenges you and really improves your writing. If you do the readings and really understand them you should be fine. Highly enjoyable class, he's intelligent and funny, definitely take him, you actually LEARN!

I had Dr. Winch for 701 & 802 - I loved him. I found him to be a very fair teacher and an awesome person. He used a different syllabus than other 802 classes, we read novels instead of using the essays in a text. You have to work for your grade, but it's worth it because he was very fair to me and very cool.

Winch is a real cool guy. He's a great teacher with an equally as good sense of humor I strongly recommend taking him. He tries his best to get everyone involved in class discussions. Write all your essays, skim the readings to get an understanding, and try your best to get on his good side and you'll come out with at least a B+.

If you have to take english 802, take it with Winch! All other professors use the boring Cultural Conversations text, but Winch lets you read books about violence and write really interesting essays about them. Great guy, interesting class. Highly recommend.

Winch really discusses what needs to be done to complete assignments. He is patient and explains things crystal clear. Very funny, still a kid at heart. Def a great teacher!

Winch's readings are very interesting and he explains them thoroughly along with the writting assignments. Don't be afraid to speak up in class, he likes to have it very discussion based.

Take Winch. His class is easy. The reading was interesting. As long as you put in the work (which isn't too much) you should get nothing lower than a B.

Dr. Winch was probably the best english teacher I've ever had. He explains everything clearly and answers all questions. You have to do the readings but they are super interesting and that makes writing the papers a lot easier.He curses a lot but so if your okay with that DEFINITELY TAKE HIS CLASS!!!

Dr. Winch is really a nice guy, works to make sure you understand whats going on in the class and that you'll write good papers. Highly reccomend him to anyone who never liked english, he'll help you get through it

Dr. Winch is probably the best English teacher I have ever had. His explanations are extremely clear and will do anything he has to in order for his students to understand the topics. Just get ready to read a sufficient amount. But, I'd definitely recommend him. Great teacher.

Dr. Winch is a pretty cool guy. His Analytical Reading and Writing class is a bit different, you read three novels and write three papers plus four reading response mini essays. Good lecturer, doesn't waste your time, pretty helpful. It's a lot of reading but I would recommend taking his class.

Great Teacher. As long as you finish the assigned work which isn't much you will do fine. Attendance is required and part of your grade. Had 4 essays and 4 small response essays. The books are required for the course. Very interesting lectures and a funny sense of humor. I highly recommend taking this class.

Great professor, different outlook on life which I enjoy. Around 50 yr old hipster with great sense of humor and sarcasm. Gives amazing feedback and wants you to succeed. Attendance for class helps immensely

Professor Winch is very knowledgable about the subject. Although his class is quite tough but he makes it enjoyable, especially the class discussions. He is certainly not easy, he makes you work for it but he is not extremely hard either. He cares about students & if you need help, come to his office hours. He is very helpful. You will learn a lot!

Dr. Winch is really an amazing guy. I came into college with little to no interest in English, his class taught me to think differently. You have to write four big essays and four mini reading response essays. His readings are long, but interesting. He keeps lectures upbeat. I liked him so much that I registered to have him for ENG 0802!!!

This class is AMAZING, but DON'T TAKE IT IF YOU DON'T LIKE SCARY PEOPLE. Three novels, three essay drafts you'll later revise. I actually learned stuff in this English class! Dr. Winch has a Socratic method of teaching, and our class discussions are fascinating. I'm so glad I signed up for this class; it has made me start thinking a different way.

I had Winch for 0701 and 0802, and he's a really great guy. All of 0802 novels are about violence, and you actually watch the film adaptations for two of them. His essays are pretty tough, but he will provide insightful feedback during the one-on-one conferences. He's also got a great sense of humor, try to not get discouraged by his massive beard.

Mr. Winch is such an amazing, down-to-earth guy! He is my favorite teacher at Temple. I never liked English, but I LOVED his class. He made each lecture so interesting! He does not follow the usual 802 curriculum, he chooses books about violence. His essays are long but he's very helpful. I would take any class with Mr. Winch again in a heartbeat!

Great teacher! I'm not much of a speaker and very shy, but I believe his classes are very interesting. I felt like my writing was sliding a bit in college, but with his critical analysis and help, you'll write an amazing paper! He provides extra sources that you can use for your papers and he also lets us watch movie adaptions of novels in class!

Mr. Winch is an outstanding teacher/person who doesn't let the stressors of life influence his teaching, he is courteous too students allowing them to express their desired point ads a good touch of humor into the curriculum toaid the learning, and is in more than one way a major part of my life desitions are based solemnly on him. Amazing teacher, hands down the best english teacher I've had at Temple. The classes are always fun/thought provoking, books he assigns are interesting, overall a great class and teacher. Not necessarily a easy A but overall a pretty "easy going" class, the only major assignment being the portfolio that I believe are required in all english classes

Professor winch is funny! he enlightens the class, he seems sarcastic at first but once you get yo know him he's a nice old guy with a big brain full of things. Great english teacher, he teacher you from a different level. Other than Shakespeare and other boring readings he focuses on things like gender and food.

Professor Winch provides great feedback on essays and gives really good essay prompts. He is very caring and gives great lectures, the more you agree with what he's saying the easier the essays and class.

His teaching style is old-fashioned; you'll have individual conferences with him on each of the 3 essays(5, 6, 8 pages) and he requires active participation and attendance. The reading is enjoyable, but the writing is burdensome. He wants you to write about what he says in class, so take notes. He's openly liberal and it influences his discussion.

Dr. Winch is an amazing professor and his class really opens your eyes to extremely interesting topics and concepts that you could potentially get very invested in. He holds a lot of open discussions that are both engaging and informative. Definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had!

He's a great professor with lots of knowledge on English. He's really down to earth, so all of his lectures sometimes get pretty fun at times. He's the type of professor to talk nonsense with the class if you guys wanted to, but without wasting the class time. His grading scheme is straightforward, but the papers make you think. Totally doable tho.

Prof. Winch was an amazing professor. He knows so much about the content he is teaching. I took him both semesters my freshman year and he seriously helped me so much with adjusting to college, and with my writing. Seriously a great professor and I'm going to miss him!!!

One of the greatest Professors on the face of planet Earth. This man is a riot, he's smart as hell, and I never wanted to miss one of his classes. The discussions he provided in class helped me learn so much about the literature we focused on. I cannot give this man enough praise for doing such a fantastic job.

Dr. Winch is a great guy who has a very good understanding of what he is teaching. All of the readings that he makes you do will help with the 4 reading responses and 4 essays for the class. Overall, good class and I would recommend as long as you get your work done.

Dr. Winch made class very interesting. I would change was th movie, American Pie. This inappropriate for young girls to watch with their professor. He should say ask the class before you watch the movie, and tell them there is fowl language would they be offended watching the movie in class and can watch it on their own or pick another movie.

Dr. Winch keeps it real and he is very clear on what he wants in his essays. The class was fairly easy we had 3 essays and 4 reading responses. PARTICIPATE IN CLASS matters plus it will help you better write your essays. TRY NOT TO BE LATE and you'll definitely pass with flying colors

Winch is the goat. He shows you how to format each of the three essays in the course and his conferences are fun and are good when it comes to the feedback. He may seem a little iffy first but he is very sarcastic and it gets better later on. He is a very nice guy and was my favorite professor this semester������

Winch is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's very kind and respectful. Classes are seminar-based so be prepared to discuss during class. In high school, I hated Socratic seminars but Winch makes it very easy to participate and share. He is a tough grader though. 3 large essays and 3 short essays with weekly discussion posts.

Professor Winch put together a well-organized online course. Assignments and expectations were very clear. Zoom class meetings were focused on class discussion of the readings, which I prefer over lecture. There are two 8-page papers, which is not uncommon for a 3000 level English course and there is a list of guiding prompts to choose from.

This class is super fun. As long as you come prepared to discuss the articles during your respective class time then you will be fine. There are 4 essays which get turned in as your final portfolio at the end of the semester. Prof. Winch gives you plenty of time to get them completed as well as he gives excellent feedback on them.

Dr. Winch is a great instructor. He's very knowledgeable about his field and makes otherwise boring content seem interesting. You will have to pay attention in class and do the readings, but his teaching style is a great motivator to read and participate. Opportunity for revisions on papers and to meet in office hours if you're struggling

Amazing professor. Grades quickly, assignments are not too difficult. As long as you put in the effort, you will get a good grade. He is extremely knowledgeable of the topics we discuss, and the class discussions are helpful for assignments. So happy I got to have Winch.

I would highly recommend Dr. Winch. He makes a tedious GenEd course into a great experience. The textbook provided is a good read. Assignments are challenging but reasonable. His feedback is great. He is open to disagreement as long as it is respectful and with good reason, he is unlikely to be impressed with talking points off of reddit.

Dr. Winch is extremely knowledgeable and takes great pride in his work. His course material is insightful and makes you think. Since he only assigns 3 papers over the course of the class, make sure you put in the work and do the weekly discussion posts. Also participate, since he also grades off of this!

Great prof. 4 reading responses which helps your grade never really hurts. 3 essays that you work on throughout the semester and include in a final portfolio which is 40% of your grade. Show up to class it will help you with the participation grade which he is not strict with at all. You can tell he wants his students to succeed and do well.

Dr. Winch is a rare type. Thoughtful and funny, witty, and sharp as hell. You can tell he truly cares about his students. There are a lot of readings, but they follow a common theme. That doesn't make them any less interesting, though. This class is difficult! But if you work at it, you will enjoy yourself.

The way Professor Winch teaches clearly shows he genuinely loves English. Some of the books he assigns can be a bit boring or hard to understand but he is always willing to help. Discussions are a huge part of class so get ready to talk. For texts and criticisms, there were 3 big papers and he allows revisions. 100% would recommend for anyone.

As a person who hates reading, Winch made this class simple, and his lectures were able to get everyone involved. His care for the class really shows, and the assignments are easy if you pay attention. Take this class if you need an art gen-ed!!

Dr. Winch is so funny, keeps class engaging, and is passionate about what he teaches. Genuinely cares for his students and their learning. Can be a slightly tough grader depending in my experience, but is very clear about expectations and rubrics. Would take him all the time if I could.
