Hard to understand
the worst teacher ever!!!
Goes through material quick. unless you want to be bored to death don't take him
I hated his class it was very hard and he doesnt have clear notes. It was horrible
No online help, study sessions don't work because he won't tell the aid what he is going to test. Sounds like the dinosaur in Toy Story!
it may be the material but he's boring, runs right through notes, skip class and read the chapters u'll do fine
One of the two worst profs I have ever had. Has been at 6 schools in 14 years...does this tell you anything? Goes to quickly, doesn't answer questions clearly, will not grade on anything except tests, which he will curve. Avoid him at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! HE IS HORABLE! Goes to fast, doesnt answer quesions clearly, seems kinda nervous. DO NOT TAKE HIM WHAT EVER YOU DO!!!!
take it if you like school. Not
I did not enjoy the class. Very boring teacher, with a bad teaching ethic. Avoid if possible.
DON T TAKE HIM...........The worst teacher I have ever had!!!!!!!!
EASY!!! Enjoyed class, learned lots, just go over material and study. Nice person too, willing to help, gets off track A LOT!! Still lots of fun.
Very boring class and does not explain information.
avoid this terrible professor at all costs...save your sanity, and your GPA
he is very boring professor. The class is somewhat hard if you don't really understand Bio. because he does not explain any of the materials. He just very quickly reads the notes with not much explanation.
awful teacher, reads ppt word for word and throws in his own terms that we're supposed to memorize, tests on material that we haven't learned - DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He is a terrible teacher. He reads straight from his powerpoints which are online, so there's no reason to even go to class. Tests are over 5+ chapters at a time. The only thing redeemable is that the test were online. Hello cheating!
Probably THE worst teacher ive had since ive been in college... everyone is right on with their comments...hes horrible and i dont reccommend him at ALL..
Please avoid him!!!
He reads powerpoints word for word, which are online available to print off. It gets so boring its hard to even go to that class! If he changed the way he did his class, it wouldn't be so bad. He seems like a good guy.
He posabliy has the worst people skills i have ever seen... I had to call him about class and he basicly told me i was that since no one else had a problem then it was my problem....i learned absolutly nothing..
absolute ass...does not elaborate at all outside of the prepared lectures...i learned NOTHING. don't take this class
He is a nice guy, but I think he knows this stuff too well to teach it. He knows what he is talking about but just doesn't teach it very well at times. He had online tests, but changed that just get a group together and go over your practice tests.
He is way too boring. Don't take him at all.
OHHHHHHHHH GEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZ!!!! Talk about hard and I did not learn anything. I have a new found hate for biology. Everything he teaches is hard and I hard a hard time comprehending anything.
That little giggle after everything he says is so distracting you can't pay attention to anything else. HOWEVER::: His tests are written by the book so if you don't go to class and just thoroughly review the chapters you will pass
I don't know how this guy ever got a PhD or a job for that matter. He made biology even more painful than I thought it could be. Avoid like the plague.
A very nice professor and extremely helpful. Seems to enjoy upper level classes more than teaching general bio. Does tend to assume that you know more about a topic than you really do. Often goes out of his way to talk to you.
What an idiot. Do not take this class with him, pick a different professor. I was really looking forward to general biology, until I got there, and he started "teaching" What a joke, I had a hard time getting a C!!
Readss straight off the power points, so u dont need to go to class, however over half of my class fails every test.
He is not an easy teacher, but if you pay attention, read the book, and STUDY (which is what you're supposed to do in college) then you will easily make a B. He is very helpful if you take the time to go to his office.
The class is boring, hard to stay awake. To smart to teach a gen class. BUT he takes 85% of his test questions right off the internet and he gives you the web site to find them even. Study just the ques & you can get 80-90% on tests.
He knows his stuff and is helpful if you ask him questions. The tests are easy if you study the quizzes on ecompanion. If you know those alone you will get a B or better. Don't bother with the notes.
This class is hard anway, so take someone who can teach it good! Dieringer cannot!! He is just hard to follow and hard to understand! His tests are lengthy and hard too! He reads straight from his power-points which you can get online,so no need to even come to class. You may as well teach yourself!
Overall he's alright. There's no point in going to class though cause all his test questions come for the textbook's website.
AGH!!!!!!!! If you see his name pop up on the computer or see him walking down the hall RUN!!!!!!!!!!! Don't take him....He is hard and not very personable. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely study the textbooks' website. I got A's on the tests when I did that. His class is soooo boring! He's not a good teacher, and he's boring.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! Tests come from powerpoints and online quizzes but they're worded weird. He is not worth your time. Only grades on tests-nothing else! Over 3/4ths of my bio class is failing...looking forward to taking this with someone else(not). Avoid at all costs!!
What ever you do, take this teacher. You never have to go to class. When it comes to the test, just study the online quizzes a couple times each and you should get an B easily. You feel bad for the guy, but he teaches Bio, he understands.
Very easy class. You never have to attend to get a good grade. His test questions are word-for-word off the online quizzes plus maybe 5 extra ones. And you get to drop the lowest test score.
I'd definitley recommend him. Don't have to go to class, ever. All you have to do is take the online quizzes (which are kind of a pain in the butt), but it beats actually learning the stuff! Seems like a nice guy though.
why is that morethan half of the class is failing? I actually went to the class but didn't help instead I wasted my time, and my money. Try to get in with Padgit
He is the dean of the dept. so he is extremely smart and knows his stuff. You don't even have to go to class to get an A just study the online quizzes from the book they are 95% the test questions. Not very helpful but very easy and the lectures are extremely boring don't waste ur time going to class.
MOST BORING CLASS EVER! This man may know his biology, but he is terrible at teaching it. There is no point in class nor looking at his power point notes online. He just takes about 10ish or so questions from each chapter quiz at the book's online site and puts them into a 50 question test. If you MEMORIZE you will do fine, but you won't learn.
He is a horrible teacher. But the class itself is not too bad. All of his tests come directly from the book quizzes online. The midterm and final are different though, you have to actually "study" for them
HORRIBLE, stay away! He just talks to hear himself speak. His tests are cut & paste from the on-line textbook quizzes, so you can pass those if you study the quizzes, but the tests suck just as much as his teaching.
I hated Bio. in high school. I took this class and only went on the test days, ended up getting a 96%. There is a trick to beating the test, just make sure you go to the textbook website.
You don't have to go to classes. Exam questions comes right from textbooks online quizes. Easy B
Horrible teacher. Doesn't care if you show up and he doesn't even look up at the class. He doesn't care if the class understands because he never stops a second during lectures to ask questions. The tests were extremely hard even with the online quizzes. I don't know why he is a professor. There has got to be something he is better at.
Like everyone else said, he takes most of his tests straight from the online quizzes on the textbook site, which really helps out on the tests. He's a nice guy, but he can't hear out of one ear, so when he asks a question (which is rare) you have to yell. Then if you get it wrong you feel like an idiot. Trust me. Easy class though.
Dieringer is horrible. The class is horrible as well. He has no desire to help students. I barely ended up with a B in his class. The first two tests had the questions from the online website, but I guess he caught on because the rest of the semester they were impossible. Take advantage of the extra credit quizzes.
Tests did NOT come from online textbook quizes. Hard not to fall asleep during his lectures. Worst instructor I have ever had... EVER!! Also not willing to help students.
Tests are difficult however he's very helpful when it comes to the bug project. He's easy to talk to but he tends to get a little long winded at times. Very nice, just make sure you read the book and notes and ask questions!
He was not very helpful at all. His lecture notes had barely anything to do with the tests. He does drop the lowest test grade though, and there is possible extra credit. The tests are extremely hard even after studying for 2-3 hours per test. He does not allow make up exams, no exceptions.

Dieringer is a OK teacher. He takes 5 attendance out of the year. Also he is kind of smart, so try not to ask questions if you do the quizes on the website you will do fine. He also gives extra credit. But he's rude !
such a BORING teacher. if you do the online practice quizzes & skim through the book, you'll do fine. takes attendance 5 times, and there's like 4 tests throughout the semester, which are all multiple choice. a lot of the questions on his tests are from the online practice tests. he's an OK teacher.
He was boring to listen to. I hated going to this class because the lecture had nothing to do with the tests.
Most BORING class I've ever had. You'll be ok if you study the online quizzes but I would take someone else if you can.
TAKE GEN BIO ONLINE IF YOU CAN!!! It is almost word-for-word regurgitation from the textbook. Assignments are very easy but exams are pretty difficult. Answer banks do exist online if you Google. He was picky about certain things (which are clearly outlined in syllabus) but was helpful when I e-mailed him with a request.
He is a terrible teaacher. He basically just reads the powerpoint right off the slides and his test I swear are impossible to study for. He isn't much help at all, and he stutters when he lectures plus he has a monotone voice. Avoid him at all cost!
When the semester started I thought this class would be impossible. So far I have moderately tried... He offers 50 EC points, you get 25 attendance points, and he drops the lowest grade. Boring class but very easy A.
Okay this class was super easy. He gives loads of extra credit and has power points. His voice is monotone but he's endearing. I got above 100% because of all the extra credit but I read the book cover to cover and did all the practice stuff online. Tests come almost word for word from those.
Got an A & even failed a test b/c he'll drop lowest of first 3 tests and has up to 50pts extra credit on easy quizzes. Hard to pay attention in class. I didn't read book, just went over notes a few times before tests. Didn't seem like the most friendly or helpful, although I never asked.
Monotoned and quiet, SIT CLOSE TO THE FRONT. 25 attendance points, 5 random days throughout the semester. tests are pretty easy, 50 EC points, drops lowest test score. Good guy, average teacher, EASY CLASS.
lectures cannot be understood at all. he doesn't help student. for twice i have begged him for my work that i have done, not got any points. easy to get marks too. not that much hard. still i i would take somebody else if you really like to study and understand things.
He reads word for word off of the power points, and the only reason to go to class is because of his sporadic attendance taking. Not much from lecture is on the test, it's mainly from the quizzes. He is extremely boring to listen to and not engaging whatsoever. I usually like science but he ruined that for me
GenBio: Very monotone, and the lectures are boring because he reads word for word from his powerpoints. He takes attendance at 5 random times, so skip class at your own risk. He also offers 50 points worth of extra credit. The tests are not difficult if you do the quizzes. Overall, not the best, but there are definitely worse options.
VERY monotone, seems to not really care about being in class anymore than the students, and always makes the TA do things for him. He is of no help in or out of class, and he does not give clear instructions of how to do things! Good luck if you take lab with him because you'll get very little information.
Professor didn't engage with the class. The material was OK, but very little effort was given from the professor. He does not seem passionate about the course, or teaching it, which is upsetting. I used to love science, not so much anymore... The course is not hard itself, but it goes far when the professor does not seem to want to be there.
I had Dr.D for lab and it' not the best but also not the worst. He is kinda boring and he doesn't speak very clearly, but he is super nice if you have a question. Pay attention during the labs because you will always have a quiz over it next class. Also, he is deaf in one ear so speak loud!!
Mr. Dieringer is a very kind, calm man. However, his class is at least 90% lectures (which were just powerpoints that had lots of spelling mistakes) and your grade for his class is almost completely based off of exams. There are no quizzes or homework to cushion or show progress. I would say probably only half the class showed up regularly.
I had a great experience with Dr. Dieringer. Lectured and was available during office hours.
Dr. D is such a kind and funny man. This class can be difficult if you do not put in the effort. There are only 365 points offered the whole semester (exams only.) But, he drops your lowest test and offers 25 extra credit points. While his powerpoints are helpful, you need to read the book! I also went to weekly tutoring for more help.
This professor sucks. He does not mention when tests and quizzes are, he does not weight tests. He will drop your lowest test pre-emptively, however if you have other assignments pulling your grade down this actually hurts your grade, as it remains the same. The tests are not application of knowledge and are instead a chance to test out quizlet.
He just lectures the entire time and you take exams every once and awhile. There are a few homework assignments that you have to do that are easy, but hardest part of his class is staying motivated and focused through his lectures becasue of how boring/dull he is. If there is a more energetic and interesting professor take them instead.
Not understanding and he doesn't respond to any emails. I had an 89% and he wouldn't bump my grade and I attended class daily. I also had a situation where I could not turn in an assignment on time. I emailed him twice, and he never responded and I got a zero. He is very funny and does try to explain the material, but not my favorite at all.
I have him for Gen Bio lecture. Lecture moves quickly and is not in very good detail. Grade is based only on exams. Exams are frequent, long, and detailed. Do not take his lecture classes.
Dieringer is a piece of work. I have him for Prin of Bio Lab He does not teach and if he thinks he does it's in terrible detail. His TAs teach and help us 100% of the time. I hate to talk about the man like this but I do not recommend taking any of his classes.
He explains thing as if youre stupid and he doesnt explain things very well. Whenever you ask a question, he answers in a way that makes you feel stupid.
Gregg only did lectures and tests. No additional assignments to improve your grade- there were 3 extra credit quizzes but they were extremely hard. Our class average on the 1st test was a 57% the next test was open book/note and the average was a 68%. He didn't curve our grades until the 3rd test.He is very knowledgeable but very hard to understand
Low energy classes, tough questions on tests, and study-heavy class.
Great guy, terrible at teaching!! There are three extra credit quizzes but the readings are long. If you have to take the course with him, PLEASE study every day unless your good at bio. The book is helpful to a certian degree, you would have to go search for it. The test is all multiple choice but its at least 50 questions!! No attendence and hw!
He is an okay person but as a professor he is very basic. He doesn't have many good study resources for those who need it and because the class is almost completely graded on tests, its unfair to test takers who struggle. It was pretty easy for me because I already understood the topic but it is easy to fail if you do not try to study at all.
He does not teach well at all, if you can avoid him then do! He talks so quiet and speaks to the ground, very hard to understand, and grades very hard for the most minor things. He will laugh at you and make you feel stupid. Even in office hours, he told me I am unorganized and that i don't have my life together.
This professor is hard to understand, he is deaf but he talks to the floor and is quiet. He doesn't have good study tools, he is terrible at teaching. If you can, AVOID this professor. The TA is really the only one who teaches and he is no help in or our of class.
The TA taught the whole class. When students asked for help he just told them if they couldn't figure it out they were out of luck.
I am not sugar coding this, Derringer is an awful professor. He does not care to build a student-teacher relationship. You failed? Better luck next time. If everyone is failing, don't you think you're the problem Dieringer? Nope! Don't even bother telling him that, he will shrug his shoulders and laugh in your face.
He can't hear very well so he talks really quiet. He's older so he's not entertaining and me personally I need someone exciting with boring class material.
Greg Dieringer does heavy lectures and his exams are on paper. Attendance isn't required, but it's good that you attend class so you can understand the exams. His exams are solely over his slideshows. If you take his class I recommend you go to the SI sessions.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Absolutely awful, he is deaf in one ear and talks to the ground. You can barely understand him. He just reads off of a slideshow, and his exams are hard. Basically, he does not care whether you pass or fail and if you try to get help he will just laugh at you and tell you to figure it out.
Lecture heavy and he can be very monotone. Very exam heavy but they are all multiple choice and easier if you attend SI. Overall, not a horrible class but not my favorite.
One of the worst professors I have had. Very nice outside of class and is literally just a nice old guy, but he literally just yaps about nonsense and expects us to understand. He is so quiet and the lab is so loud that even if I could understand what he was saying, I couldn't hear him. He is serving in his little nike techs though.
Super easy class if you tried. Attendance isn't mandatory but show up, you'll do better. He is super funny and personable! You got extra credit for attending SI and doing easy extra readings/quizzes
he was a great professor. attendance is not mandatory but you will do a lot better if you go to class. he does not talk very loud but will answer questions if you have them. if you go to si or tutoring 10 times you get extra credit. he also gives his si the tests so they can gauge their sessions off of that
this class was hard especailly for someone who did well in bio in highschool, barely gives point out unless its a test, will not remind you on your assignments that you do have to do, plus his class lowkey boring and very hard to sit through
He provides very little help or says that he won't tell you the answer even when you're not looking for the answer, just further explanation. He will look at you like you're stupid and gets annoyed whenever you don't understand something he just explained. Clearly if a student doesn't understand, the professor needs to clarify more.
He Grades very very hard and his grading criteria is not clear. He is not friendly and mumbles and stumbles through instructions. Most people failed the lab reports. You should take this lab with other professors.
