Great guy! super friendly, really approachable and makes class enjoyable! Was in a combined class, so we had a large lecture with 5 profs on Monday, and smaller classes the other days. A lot of readings though..
What an incredible prof! Gregory genuinely cares about all his students and makes his classes such a great environment. He understands that this is an entry level course and marks and assigns work accordingly. He gives tons of feedback on papers and is very willing to provide extensions.
He's working his way to get his phD, but I need to say that he's doing a lot better in teaching his students than most of the profs in u of a. He's the teacher that actually cares about you and want you to be able to balance your personal life and school, he doesn't want school to be stress for his students.
At first I was not sure about Gregory, but I grew to love him as the semester progressed. He's so genuinely nice and passionate about English. We studied comic books, video games, novels, poems, movies. He puts in a real effort to make good constructive feedback on your assignments. Plus, he is very chill and just wants students to feel stress free
Gregory is probably the best prof I have and ever will have. He was constantly making sure none of his students were feeling overwhelmed and always sympathized when we were stressed. He would give extensions quite freely assuming you had a reason and asked early enough, and you can tell he's passionate about English. I'm sad to leave his class.
Hes an incredible teacher. By far the best prof Ive ever had. He is the most sympathetic and caring person ever and very generous with extensions. He constantly made sure no one was stressed and even gave us a lecture about coping with stress. Hes also super funny and genuinely tries to make class interesting. I wish I could take this class agai
The best prof a student could have, especially for first years! He always gave lots of feedback to make sure we knew how to improve our marks. He understood the pressure of uni and made his class wasn't another added stress. Would definitely recommend prof Blomquist to everyone!
Hands down the best professor ever! He replies to emails quickly, makes expectations clear for essays, is super helpful during office hours and completely FAIR with grading. He truly cares for his students and ensures you feel good about your work before its marked. He helps out with stress by giving extensions, and had a super straightfwd final.
Mr. Blomquist was an extraordinary instructor who cared a lot about each individual student-- the lectures are funny and he's a naturally energetic and bubbly man. I enjoyed his class, his texts, and his feedback.
Really smart, cares about his field and interesting to listen to. He tries really really hard to be nice to the point where it can make you a little uncomfortable. Also likes to wokesplain. Other then that 10/10 great guy.
Dr. Blomquist is a solid professor who really cares about his students. During my experience in his class I learned a lot of things and shared many laughs along the way. This is a very easy class if you care about maintaining a high GPA, however, he made it much more than that. His friendly outlook onto student life is relatable and generous.
If there was a way to give a professor a 6/5 this would be the guy. He thinks higher of your mental health rather than the course work, so he hands out extensions if you're struggling in any way (Mentally or in course work). He is one of my favorite professors in my life as that says a lot as university professors usually are worse.
This was honestly my favorite class this semester! Gregory was a great prof who always cared about your mental health and made sure you were doing well and always considered that in his class. I loved how we studied different varieties of media, it really made the class more interesting! He was also a fair marker and always gave valuable feedback!
Gregory is incredibly kind and clearly cares about his students. He is willing to make virtually any reasonable accommodation if it will benefit your mental health. I wouldn't take another English class in which he is not the prof. To be completely honest I didn't love the texts we studied during his class but that's really personal preference.
He does really care. Overall, hes a really excellent choice but one nitpicky thing I could say is that lectures felt super drawn out. But this wasnt to the point that it wrecked the class or anything, just a minor note. Overall really great.
Professor Blomquist was truly one of the best profs I've had so far. He was always very nice and understanding if we needed an extension on an assignment. Marking was fair and he assigned a manageable amount of work. Make sure you participate for "free" marks!
I have never met a teacher who cares so much about his student's mental health. Very willing to give extensions and makes everyone feel very included. His lectures are engaging and casual, which in turn is easy participation marks. He has a great sense of humor and is happy to discus in depth any subject that we need help with or just like more.
He was the best Professor I had this semester. There are a few readings but you will be good as long as you attend lectures. His slides are very helpful understanding course materials. Easy 6 quizzes all open book and worth 20%. Participation helped boost your grade and he was very accommodating with deadlines. AMAZING CLASS! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Professor Blomquist is an excellent professor that made sure our classes were engaging and enjoyable. This is an instructor that clearly cares heavily about his students' well-being and their mental health. He is one of the kindest professors I've met and if I could, I'd take this class again. Definitely recommend taking his class!
Gregory was a wonderful prof I absolutely loved his classes. He was great to listen to and very fair with all of his expectations. The work load is very reasonable and the texts he choose are all very unique and interesting. Lovvved this class. However I did find him to be a bit of a hard marker. I would still recommend this class though.
His class is easy to understand. His lecture slides are glance. His ratings are very loose. He offers free online textbook materials. He gives bonus points to make students get higher grades.
Bro is a god
He is honestly so amazing, he is very understanding and will give you a week or longer extensions on essays if you ask for it within a reasonable timeline with a good enough excuse. His classes aren't mandatory to go too but I'd recommend going to them cause he does like to give out bonuses (like test questions) and helps us out, saved my ass a lot
Prof. Blomquist absolutely amazing, he always comes to class with lots of energy and it's evident that he's really passionate about what he's teaching. The grading is extremely fair and if you aren't satisfied with your grade then there are plenty of opportunities to boost it. He's very funny, kind, and cares a lot about all of his students.
Super kind and clearly cares about all of his students. Takes student mental health very seriously and does his best to make class safe for everyone. Gives clear feedback and returns papers within a fair amount of time. He's literally the nicest guy ever and was my fav prof this term.
Really nice prof! He responds to emails quite efficiently and will give extensions when asked for one. Very understanding. I recommend enrolling in his class if you want an easy first year English course. Not very stressful.
Really amazing prof who cares about the mental well-being of his students. He gave extensions if you asked and his reading quizzes were easy as long as you read the texts. The texts chosen were also very interesting. Could not recommend enough!
Gregory was the next in a long line of amazing English teachers I've been extremely grateful to have. Never before have I seen a teacher care so much about mental, physical, and emotional health. He constantly reminded us to prioritize our health over school. Sure, the class wasn't an "easy A" but he made it all the easier to succeed. 10/10 prof.
Gregory is incredibly caring and respectful of all of his students. He's flexible, encourages students to ask for extensions on papers if needed, and genuinely tries to make lectures accessible and stress-free to attend. Made course content interesting to engage with, and was always open to discussions with students related to assignments.
Gregory is the most caring professor I have ever had in university. He deeply cares about the students' mental and physical well-being and is super respectful to everyone. I found him to be quite funny too! Very easy reading quizzes and participation marks to boost your grade. The essays and final were very fair and totally doable.
Best English prof ever!
I cannot recommend this professor enough!! As someone who dislikes writing, he made his class fun and inviting. The class discussions were always exciting and a safe space. He gave many options for extra credit and was accessible outside of the class. He was also super flexible about due dates, even if it was the day before an essay was due!!
He is a great person, lectures were chill. Participation really matters - speaking in class + attendance. I found he is a pretty tough grader, (as B+ English student) No credit assignments. He did give pretty easy quizzes that u can easily get 100 on, worth 15% ur grade. Does give extensions! Polite + respectful. Is very extroverted.
Gregory was so understanding and always gave you an extension as long as you talked to him. He prioritized mental health and even gave lectures during midterm season on studying techniques we could utilize.I wouldn't say his class is a piece of cake but it is not hard to well as a big chunk of your grade is participation and quizzes which are easy.
Even though I'm a science student, this was easily my favourite class. He was very understanding and helpful, and the class was a lot of fun. Absolutely would recommend this class.
such a sweet guy. he will help you if you need it and will respond to emails. i could write a book about how great this guy is. he is one of the reasons i even write books. inspirational, fun, and extremely kind. W teacher
I absolutely LOVED Greg's class. I'm in my third year now and I still think about him at least once a week. He's amazingly caring, super knowledgable about everything he teaches and clearly loves what he does. Do yourself a favour and try and take him if you can!
Very good professor. If you have the option, definitely take Dr. Blomquist. He is a fair grader and sets clear guidelines for assessments.
Easy class, but a boring class with boring lectures
He made English my favorite class tha semester. Grading is super clear and he is available for questions and answers them quickly. Participating is the best part of this class but you can totally sit and contribute only once or twice. He mainly uses discord and if you help students there or contribute insights there it counts towards your mark!
Lectures were interesting and often ended earlier than expected. He has a clear grading criteria for each assessment. The class is very light with little homework and readings.
I didn't know I signed up for game studies when I chose English 103, but i sure am glad I did as he made class enjoyable and cultivated a safe environment for the class to share ideas. His class is accessible through discord which is definitely something other professors should start doing. Just take his class atp, you wont regret it!
Professor Blomquist is honestly one of the best teachers I've had. For our 103 class, there were no tests, just three major writing assignments with no redos. He gave straightforward hints in class and showed examples of A, B, and C papers, so you always knew what he expected. Made the class way less stressful.
Hands-down the worst class I've ever taken. I am now traumatized by Pokemon. The marking is incredibly harsh and the feedback he provides is questions or one-word on the document, which is useless and when I emailed he gave a super vague response. He wasted time giving elementary level grammar lessons instead of teaching us how to actually improve.
Just very unclear rubric, don't know how good you are doing on participation until the end which is 15% of the grade and marking rubric unclear. Lectures are boring and overall the class is just bad.
Could be better
I loved this class! I've never posted something to RMP before, but after seeing that someone has left a number of harsh (and arguably untrue) comments, I wanted write. TD;LR is do yourself a favour and take his ENGL 103 class. He is a fair marker, has a wonderful class environment, interesting topics, and is kind and accessible for any questions.
The BEST prof i have ever had!!! Had us play pokemon and night in the woods
Not as bad as people say but unless you're very into video games do not take this class. Lecture are boring and playing games sounds fun but when you have to put 30 hours of pokemon and 20 hours of night in the woods during exam week it really tanks your gpa. Multiple playthrough are usually needed and the amount of hours you put in is not worth.
I don't normally write reviews but after reading these reviews I had to. The grading criteria is very clear, he provides example papers that we go over in class (he doesn't show an A paper but he tells us the corrections needed to make it an A). If you aren't willing to put in the work you won't get a good grade and that's not his fault.
Enjoyed the class, typical expectations. Glad I took the class
I found this class to be one of my favourites as I just started my university journey really impressed with this prof, took the time to help me navigate my workload
I can't believe what I'm reading on this site, I think there's one or two big babies that didn't get their way and maybe they don't understand English. Really sad to read some of these comments, Professor Blomquist is amazing. Never had an issue really great guy. Everyone I talked to that have taken this class loved it!
Goated prof. EXTREMELY clear grading criteria pretty hard to get a bad grade
I took this class last year, I had to come on here. Someone told me what was happening and can't believe it. This prof is amazing! I take the class again if I didn't already have the credits
not my cup of tea
lol bad review are getting deleted, don't take this prof
don't take this class.. ratings are getting deleted fr
there were 25+ bad reviews that got deleted. don't take this class.
some big baby can't handle the truth which defeats the whole purpose of this website. This class is so bad do not take it and do NOT trust these reviews!!!
Everyday i hoped my car wheels would explode on the way so i wouldn't have to go to class.
he's a hard marker and unclear about criteria. don't take it if you're not passionate about video games. you will be forced to play around 50 hours of video games total.
My last rating was removed so I'll try to be less honest with this one. This class will crush your writing confidence, my biggest problem with him is that he would talk about the assignment and explain things he would like to see in your writing the same day it was due leaving NO time to make adjustments. He was pretty passive aggressive too.
Gives the absolute worst feedback on assignments that you can imagine. Unclear requirements, Very passive aggressive, Overall very bad class. Wasted my time playing 50 hours of pokémon when I had the choice to not even write about it.
Every time I asked a question, I felt so judged by him as if I just poured tomato soup on top of his head. He made me not want to contribute to discussions or talk during class. Worst of all I had to download smelly discord for this class.
very unhelpful feedback on assignments and way too rigid expectations considering he doesn't explain anything thoroughly. save your GPA and avoid...
someone's controlling the media and deleting comments lol big sign not to take ts
Its on sight blomquisg
Inflated rate my prof deleting all bad reviews leading to people thinking he's good. DO NOT TAKE!
Sometimes the truth hurts. And the truth is that this class is one of the worst i've ever taken. I never want to touch a video game again
on everything i spent more time playing video games then spending time with my family this semester. if that doesn't say a lot about this class then idk what will…
Genuinely gave us an essay exemplar, which i thought would be an A+ graded one, so I used it as a template for my essay.. Only to find out a day before submitting my essay that the exemplar was in fact a B graded one. Now Tell me why that would be of any use to me??? Just about dropped out of Uni from that alone.
Bro I don't know who this man is feeling like. The only reason half his students take his class is cause it's required. CRYSTAL CLEAR fav kids in the class. Sucked the soul out of me
He calls playing video games without being willing to play them as "torture". And then continues to make us play 50 hours worth. A lot of your grade is based on him having a preference towards you or not (majority of people)
dumpster fire of a class
High rating are propaganda all negative rating get removed .
Actual devil pretending to be nice
Favourtism on crack, if you arent one of his minion say good bye to a good grade. Writing doesn't even matter he just gives grades based off how much he likes u and puts a vague critic at the end.
pulls participation grade out of no where dictating your whole grade off of how much he likes you. Even if you participated everyday and had good grade on assignments he'll just give you a D on participation on arbitrary marking ruining you gpa. DO NOT TAKE
Even tho I did well i hated every miserable second of this class. I hate this man with a passion i've never had for anything else.
Would rather read 20 books then play pokemon red or Night in the woods pure torture. Acts like he giving us an easy class by having us play games but picks the most boring longest games humanly possible to make us suffer. You can remove these rate my profs all u like buddy but ur spot is cooked, i made sure.
say bye to premed here
worst class i took thanks to him. he cusses in class, doesn't explain anything and then gets mad at us for low marks. we're only here because we have to be no one cares about your mid games.
I actually used to really love and enjoy playing video games until this class. It kinda ruined it for me. Regardless of the grade i received, the class was not good at all. There are clearly favourites too in the class.
Went on a rant about how he's very disappointed on the classes grade for the first assignment, as if that wasn't the consequences of his own actions… If attendance wasn't mandatory, I would have skipped every lecture and still ended up with the same grade. Never again will I fall for good rate my prof reviews.
inapt in his teaching methods plus tough marking which don't add up
Not good in my opinion
