Class is easy if you take good notes and read the book. Half of the questions come from the book and the other from the notes. The first test averages ranged from 45-76, but he curves them heavily, so a 76 was an A+. A research paper (easy) and simple scrapbook are required also. Fairly easy class and recognizes those that attend regularly.
Great Professor. Nice guy who knows what he is talking about. If you go to class every time you will pass. He helps those along that might not get an A if they show up and participate. He curves heavily so it made my 74 an A.
He is very nice and entertaining, but i'd probably recommend a different gen. ed unless you like geology. You discuss floods and earthquakes and volcanoes.Seems kinda cool until you have to know the different faults and stuff. Must read the book. Hardly anyone attends. He curves heavily but still not enough to guarantee an A.
If you care anything about your grade do not take this class. He is not organized, does not explain anything, but makes his tests extremely hard.
NO TEXTBOOK, Curves test, great NON Lab Science to take and attendance is not required, pretty interesting material as well
Great teacher. Makes class fun. Gives lots of hints as to what is on the exams. Final is the easiest. Just questions from the previous exams (which he gives you answers to). Its still not entirely an easy A, you do have to put in effort and study. He makes it interesting though. Attendance mandatory. 3 exams, but he curves at least 10 points
I was not thrilled with this professor in any way. If you don't sit in the front row, you automatically receive a lower grade in the class. His tests were very difficult and he doesn't provide a textbook which makes things harder. I did not like this professor at all. Extremely boring!
Not a fun class, but it could be, just not with this prof. He cancelled class more than any other professor I've ever had, and was consistently 15 minutes late. He's also not reachable. No matter how many times you email him, he won't respond. Tests are all multiple choice, but still pretty hard. The thing is, it is hard to care when he doesn't.
He is VERY into what he teaches, which is good. His tests are moderately difficult, but he curves them pretty well. Must bring in a geology article once a week with few other assignments. Overall I was pleased with his class, study a moderate amount and you will be fine.
First off he is the most unorganized professor I have ever taken, does not know what he's taught and what he hasn't. Springs massive assignments on the class out of nowhere with little time to do them and his tests are ridiculous with questions about the most finite details regarding stuff he barely taught to begin with. Avoid if at all possible
No textbook, tests are really not that difficult just study for them. He makes tons of jokes during class and shows pictures during article reviews. Just do the work he asks for (which is minimal) and show up and you'll get an A. I thought his lectures were interesting. Only thing that sucked was the book report. Would recommend.
Super easy. Would recommend. Took for my NLNS. Lectures were funny. Test were not that bad. Plenty of opportunities to get points in this class.
Very funny, loves what he teaches, pretty easy. If he notices the lecture hall is pretty empty, he will give test answers. Article grades every week, not too much of a workload, no book but online reading. Must read a book at the end but isn't too bad. Overall, pretty easy to pass the class if you put some effort in.
Professor Brodie is kind of disorganized, but he is very aware and gives the students every chance to succeed. Honestly, if you don't do well in this class, you probably didn't put in the minimal effort it requires. His tests are hard and pretty scattered, but he also curves them and takes off a lot of questions.
Brodie is a very knowledgable man and he's passionate about what he teaches. The downside is that he's unorganized and sort of all over the place. It's very easy to pass his class as long as you put in some effort. His tests were sort of difficult but he curves them well.
Very passionate about what he teaches, if you are a Trump supporter like I am, prepare to be offended during every class. He is a huge liberal and grades like one too, at the end of the semester I had a C average and he curved it to an A. If you can handle him for a semester, your GPA will thank you.
Great teacher. He is hilarious and always makes class interesting. Make sure to do all the articles every week those points add up! Overall, I loved this class and found it very interesting. Study for the test by using his study guide and you will do great.
Professor Brodie is a great professor! 10/10 would recommend him
I am, unlike most of the class, a geo. major so, everything he taught was a pleasant and fun review for me. That being said, even if I wasn't a geology major I would still adore him because he likes discussion/questions, he treats his students like actual people and he is so funny. Though he is laid back, his tests are actually testing you -STUDY!
Brodie is a great professor to take for Gen Ed Science. Not too hard and semi interesting. Easy A
Very funny and entertaining. Discussion is usually about things that are current so it keeps your attention. Must show up to class to turn in the homework, you get graded by few things so it really does matter to show up and turn it in. He wants you to succeed and is very accessible if you need help. Give yourself enough time to do online homework.
Brodie is quite the character, very interesting man with lots of interesting stories. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I would show up to class just to hear him speak. Very funny and clever which makes his lectures easy to pay attention too and learn from. Tests are not hard because he gives out multiple tests answers every class. Would take again
Literally love his class, would take again 100 times. He is hilarious, but you still learn a lot in his class. Would take again.
Brodie is a great guy, nice class. A little unorganized, but more than willing to clear things up or work with you. His tests are difficult but he curves them 15+ points usually and he offers tons of extra credit.
Great guy, super funny, loves yaks... I'd totally take him again. Little homework load and lectures can seem a little long at times but overall this class is an easy A!
Great teacher and makes geology fun. Extremely easy class if you need a GPA booster.
If you attend classes, take notes, read the material and study for exam, you will learn something from this class. Study guides are given and he is accessible more by email.
A really funny professor that obviously loves his job and geography. Very few assignments like news articles every Tuesday and a few online quizzes. By going to class he will give you questions and answers that will be on the exam. Show up and listen and you will do fine.
I have no complaints. There is very little work. The work you do end up doing is easy, very self-explanatory, and often pretty interesting. I personally liked his lectures a lot. I learned so much which I don't typically care to do for Gen Eds. HIGHLY recommend taking Brodie. Plus he's very funny!
Loved him! He makes geology (something I find super boring) funny with his witty personality! He wants you to do good and as long as you do the articles due and look over the slides before test, this is an easy class and even kind of interesting! 10/10 would recommend :)
Great guy and great teacher. Class is a bit boring because of subject material, but he can make it fun. Easy homework and decent exams. Would recommend.
Brodie is great! His lectures are always very interesting and he's so funny, you'll want to pay attention. He also gives study guides for his tests so if you just go to class and study that, you will do well. You also turn in an article about national parks every Tuesday, which is a really easy way to boost your grade.
If you have the chance to take any of Brodies classes, definitely do it!! You can afford to skip class but to be honest, you wont want to.
Class is all lectures, but they're online and he offers extra credit and gives test questions during class. He understands that most people in his class are there for gen-ed credits and doesn't care if you show up or not. Will say whatever comes to his mind and does not censor himself. Good guy, but doesn't understand technology. Would recommend!
He is entertaining and keeps attention very well, and he is also very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. Put a little effort and you'll get an A, his class is worth it.
so attendance only matters on certain days like if we have to turn in an article etc. hes such an enjoyable professor (hilarious and super understanding) but ngl sometimes I got bored. seriously, take his class tho I had friends taking the same course diff prof and they were struggling fr while my experience was a breeze. Love the guy.
Dr. Brodie is very funny which makes his lectures more interesting. His class is easy as long as you come to class. The only issue I occasionally had was staying awake during his long lectures. Regardless he does know his stuff and is passionate about it.
Professor Brodie does a great job with his lectures and is entertaining. I definitely recommend taking him but going to class is mandatory if you want to do well.
I took his class as my first night time class and if he wasnt my professor i wouldve hated having a night class. he made me want to go!! just pay attention and youll pass! hes such a great professor!
Professor Brodie is the best professor I have had. Super accessible, assignments and tests are easy, he always gives a study guide, and powerpoints are always posted. Only a few quizzes and articles to turn in, overall super easy. He is a great guy and makes class enjoyable. Super funny and is like another dad. Take him!!!
The lectures were just powerpoints with audio (you honestly don't have to listen to the audio to understand the concept.) A cool professor but the quizzes were kind of difficult. The discussion boards were interesting. You can tell he really enjoys what he teaches and knows a lot about this topic.
Easy A... If you watch the provided lectures. Exams made up 65% of grade and they were fairly easy. Just study and do your work and its an easy A
Great geology professor! Definitely passionate about his field. Be prepared for long lectures but if you take notes the quizzes and tests go right along with them! Hes an easy going professor to work and communicate with.
Professor Brodie is hilarious and made dealing with a covid 19 semester easier. I would take him over and over again.
He is a funny professor with good content and ideas to share. If you pay attention and find the content interesting it is easy to perform well. He gives extra credit which is nice. Also, he loves Yaks. Have fun and get involved. This professor wants you to succeed.
The lectures are pretty long but pay attention & you will do well on the quizzes and tests. There were a few opportunities for extra credit which was great. He's passionate and funny!
Professor Brodie is awesome! He really makes learning fun. His lectures are hilarious yet very educational, and he is very professional when people try to deny climate change in front of him. His quizzes are actually fun too, with some answers being blatantly correct or incorrect. He loves yaks, so prepare yourself. 100% recommend!!
Very good professor, You can tell he enjoys teaching this course. He also cares about his students a lot. 100% would take again.
Prof Brodie was fantastic! Take him! He is so funny, and his lectures are interesting! Make sure you pay attention to his lectures and the discussion boards. Study your notes from his lectures, and you should be doing great. But he was really exceptional!
Professor Brodie is honestly one of the best Profs I've had so far. His lectures are interesting and he's able to actually make them funny/enjoyable. If you don't go to class you may miss out a little but not entirely. Honestly, an all around great guy who cares about what he does. Just do your work and you'll pass.
Pro. Brodie is a real dope guy. An honest and interesting teacher who genuinely enjoys his subject. Very passionate about global warming and climate change but in the best way. Geo perspectives was light work even during covid. I would recommend this class to anyone slightly concerned about the world around them.
Great guy. He gives lots of extra credit but to get it most of the time you have to post in discussions and attend class. Pretty interesting. Would take him again.
Very underrated professor. This guy is funny, would definitely take again. Being interested in the course helped my grade but if you show up to the lectures youll do just fine.
Really nice guy and gave an option to justify for a better grade especially with covid. Do not expect to throw this class to the back burner if it is online. There are weekly quizzes, pretty easy. However, the tests are research and lecture-based, so you need to actually watch the lectures and somewhat pay attention. NOT EVERYTHING IS ON QUIZLET!!
there is plenty of extra credit and opportunity to make a good grade in this class. attendance is mandatory on article days, but he ended up also making it mandatory the other days this semester due to lack of people showing up. his lectures really aren't boring and he's pretty funny. test and quizzes aren't too bad if you study.
He doesn't make attendance mandatory but will get personally offended if you don't show up. The only benefit to showing up is getting on his good side and he provides test answers in class. The lectures are really poorly paced so it's hard to write notes. Is overall okay but snapped at our entire class because folks stopped showing up.
Professor Brodie is great! The only assignments in the class are weekly online quizzes and like 2 or 3 online tests. The quizzes are so straightforward he literally tells you in class what the answers are for each week, and on tests you are allowed to use whatever materials are "accessible" to you, so take that as you will!!
Prof. Brodie is a character. You can tell hes passionate about his work through his lectures. He doesnt require attendance but its important to go as hell often provide answers to upcoming test questions. He makes his class engaging as he often brings in samples of rocks which make lectures more interesting.
Prof Brodie is super knowledgeable about geology and he's passionate about what he teaches but it can sometimes get boring in class. Not a lot of grades and everything can be searched online. He's not a planner so assignments can be throw at you with whenever he feels like it. Provides lots of extra credit that should be taken advantage of.
Brodie is the coolest professor at UTC, his classes are easy and he makes you want to go to class because hes hilarious. Love him 12/10
Honestly just dont take this class. Everybody thinks hes hilarious, but the fact that HE thinks hes hilarious is counterproductive. He drones on about nothing during lectures and then the random learning checks have nothing to do with what he talks about. Content is not engaging, nor is it interesting. He also has no idea how the internet works.
Great teacher. You walk away with a lot of knowledge and interest in geology.
Professor Brodie is an amazing professor that keeps the class intrigued in the lectures and always makes them interesting. I would definitely take another class with him if I am able too.
Professor Brody is a great professor! I took Geology of National Parks and it was a very interesting class, if anyone needs to take a Gen Ed, I say go for this class! He offers extra credit, and will help you out if he sees you put effort into this class!
Brodie was great! He's funny, kind, and helpful. His passion and knowledge are obvious. A friend recommended this class and I'm glad I listened. Beware that attendance, while not required, is important. He doesn't publish every rock lecture, so go to class. He gives a generous amount of extra credit. He puts in a lot of effort to make class fun.
Every class is pretty much just reading from the slides. Boring and not engaging.
The best professor I have had at UTC. He is so funny and cares about what he is teaching. Class was only lectures but he provided all the slides on Canvas and mainly had open note exams. Funniest dude.
What a funny man. Class was canceled all the time and lectures were very chill. Although a lot of important information was covered, it is clear. His tests are online but he makes the answers impossible to look up. Be warned! Very chill and easy going.
Absolute favorite prof at UTC. He is laid back and cares about the topics he teaches. Very caring and wise. None of his test answers are online. He brings his personal rocks to almost every class and explains the purpose of them. Very fun class
Brodie is so chill and easy going. online exams, and no HW. plus very funny dude. loved his class!
Brodie is such a funny dude. I loved his class even though I got bored sometimes. He loves what he does and really loves geology. Tests were open notes and online, never in class. He gives you exam questions and answers though if you go to lectures so I would recommend going often.
Such a nice, funny guy. His lectures aren't mandatory, but the class is super laid back and chill. All of his tests are online and open note/internet. He cares about his students doing well and you are sure to make a good grade. Take Brodie for any gen-eds/electives!
Love him so much! This is a very easy, laid-back class. Rock of the day is my favorite because he has such a wide variety of rocks in his collection. He's a great guy very understanding and he gives alot of extra credit towards the end if you're riding between a grade or two! 10/10 would definitely recommend
Brodie is awesome. His lectures are easy and his quizzes and exams are online. He is very helpful and understanding on due dates and he gives easy chances for you to get extra credit. He is funny to listen to and is a little bit goofy.
Great man! Funny and caring. Tests were a bit difficult, I feel like lots wasn't covered but tests weren't too hard to figure out and they were all open book. Fun and interesting class. I am a history major andwould take another one of his courses just to have him teach again!
Really fun professor. He will have you laughing during the lecture. The topics are kind of all over the place and the exams long. The exams are all open book and he really just wants you to learn. He's super passionate
I absolutely love this man. Prof. Brodie is outstanding, he is very on top of grades, communication, and tells you what you need to know. He is hilarious, and makes lectures fun and engaging. He is very in touch with youth and is very very easy to get along with. His exams are online, and he allows outside research, which makes them very easy.
Gregory Brodie is very passionate about geology, despite not being into geology I found it very entertaining and despite attendance being mandatory I wanted to come. He is hilarious very energetic and knowledgeable. Class work is easy, tests are online and not super difficult, and he flat out gives you answers to the tests if you attend class.
Brodie was super funny and passionate. He understands that this is just a general ed course for most people and respects that. He just wants you to learn and have an appreciation for rocks. He gives open note tests and pretty simple homework, but still makes you dig for the answers. Highly recommend taking his class.
Prof Brodie is a great professor and person! He is funny and knows how to incorporate a sense of humor into his lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he will often throw out answers to his tests during lecture. He gives you ample time to complete small assignments and quizzes and you usually get multiple attempts, which he takes the highest of.
Great dude & teacher very funny guy verry niceee
Brodie is very passionate and funny too. Participation isn't required but he gives a lot of test answers out in class. The exams are open internet, so if you show up to class and pay attention you don't have to spend a lot of time studying. He gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities, too.
I LOVE MR. BRODIE! He is the best professor I have had and I would take another class of his if I could. I have taken two of his classes and can honestly say what you learn is needed for adult life. He is extremely understanding and his goal is for every student to succeed. He wants to see his students do well.
Brodie is amazing, took his geology of national parks class and It was genuinely fun. He loves teaching and he loves what he teaches. The tests are easy if you go to lectures and there is ample extra credit and assignments to get a good grade, He wants everyone to get an A in his class and cares about everyone in it. Highly recommend.
Prof Brodie is by far my favorite prof at UTC. He is so unbelievably funny and his class is super easy and entertaining. If you need an easy credit, take this class!!!!!
This man has some fun lectures. Amazing gen ed course to take. Couldn't recommend more.
He is so funny and knows that a lot of people take this to get their science gen ed out of the way, but he never answers his email. His test are super easy and you're allowed to use ur notes and the internet plus take them at home. His lectures on long and sometimes boring but he tries.
Great guy, even better professor.Lectures are very interesting. Gives around 2 easy assignments around every 2 weeks.Exams can be challenging but if you put in the research it will turn out good.During most assignments he allows you to do research online while taking the assignment.Very understanding to issues and will work with you for most things
Took it as a gen ed & enjoyed it! He gives generous curves on tests and extra credit. There are only a few assignments and he gives over a week to do them. The 2 tests and final are open notes and the 2nd one has unlimited attempts. He is also funny and makes the class interesting! Attend class bc he gives out test questions w/ answers. TAKE HIM!
Easily the funniest professor at UTC, his lectures keep you wanting to come to class. I have a whole list of quotes from him that still make me laugh. Tests are the study guide and super easy. However, there are only a couple of assignments that heavily weigh on your grade.
I had mixed feelings. Funny guy, and gives open note, open internet quizzes and exams. However, the test/quiz questions are often confusing, getting one wrong on a quiz could drop you to a 75%. Because he only offers so many assignments, the class is test heavy. However, he gives extra credit, and one of the exams has 100 attempts, which helped me.
I have mixed feelings because he seems nice and is pretty funny, but the assignments/exams are weird. Most of the questions make no sense and are impossible to find the answers to. If you are willing to gamble a grade, he is not a bad option, but beware! A couple wrong answers and your grade will suffer.
Professor Brodie is very chill and doesn't assign too much work throughout the semester. Most of his assignments are opened note and opened resource.
Professor Brodie understands not everyone in his class is a geology major so he tries to tailor his lectures for a broad appeal and real-life instances where we can use what we learned in class.
He is a great teacher. His assignments are pretty weird and make you think a little bit but are generally open note and online. He makes many jokes and questions about Yaks. The Rock of the day (oooohhhh) is pretty cool thing he does with the class. If you are interested in natural hazards this is a great class and teacher to have.
Professor Brodie is very funny and likes what he's teaching, but class is boring and I didn't go as much as I should've cause I wasn't missing anything. There are very few grades other than test but the exams/tests were all online and pretty easy.
To start off, Professor Brodie is an excellent professor. Take him! All is open note, even tests so it c͟a͟n͟ be hard to find the research answers. Overall, great guy! Super interesting class, my favorite of the semester. He is very accommodating and always leaves room for open discussion/questions. Take notes! Write down all rocks of the day!
Really great professor! He is really funny and knows how to keep everyone engaged especially when the lectures are long. Everything I learned in this class I will definitely remember and use in the future. Exams were a little confusing sometimes but overall his class is really easy.
Professor Brodie is literally the best professor at UTC hands down no questions. He is so funny and actually cares about his students. He makes Geology a fun thing to learn. Even with 105 people in my lecture class he still tries to make connections. You a real one Professor Brodie. Absolute Legend.
Professor Brodie is generally the coolest professor ever. You can tell he truly loves teaching. He makes jokes every class and is hilarious. Everything is open note but you have to do a little more research to find the answers. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go because it's a fun class and rock of the day will be on your exams.
Brodie is the man. He makes you want to come to class. Rock of the day (ooooooooh) is always epic and is on the tests so go to class.
Professor Brodie is the best professor I've had. I highly recommend taking his classes if you want an easy and fun class.
Cool professor you will learn alot but hes super political and he rants about it and will try to get you to believe what he believes. Hes cool id take him again but its super annoying having him rant about random stuff like that.
