You can tell he's really interested in what he teaches. The class can be boring sometimes but it's not his fault, it's the material. He tries to make things less dull by showing interesting videos. He is very helpful and will make sure you understand something when you ask him. His tests were hard but he is so genuinely nice and very handsome.
He was very passionate in his teachings. I felt that although he was very young he did a very good job at actually teaching material and going over the key concepts in class; He's pretty funny and a very nice person :)
Pretty funny professor! I also enjoy those little animations he presents in the slides too. His exams are fair but you need to attend lectures or listen to his recordings and pay attention to what he points out. The only negative is that it can be a little difficult to understand him because he's french.
He is really nice and funny. And the whole recording lectures thing he does is amazing. Would recommend him to anyone. He is hot too and french which makes him EXTRA hot.
Really nice! Awesome guy and really helpful! So glad I have him again!:)
I found the class to be a little dull and sometimes the lectures were disorganized. However, I was relieved to find that the tests were extremely easy! The final exam was a joke. I went to his office a couple of times and he was pretty helpful. Overall, he's a good prof and a really nice guy.
I don't like him! He wasn't very clear in his lectures and his exams were heavily graded on proper wording. His lecture slides were not helpful in studying.
The best prof. He's not "easy" because you definitely need to pay attention tow hat he says, but if you are paying attention then there are no trick questions. Very organized and makes sure to include real-life applications of what you learn.
He's a really nice guy but his slides are absolutely useless! If you zone out for any length of time or miss a class then you're basically screwed for that subject on the exam.
The marking for this class was a little too picky, but he did give us the questions before the exams, which was nice. His slides weren't great, but I found that he picked excellent examples for his lectures, and did a great job explaining them.
Greg is a superb prof and he makes it very easy to understand concepts the first time he teaches them, not to mention the class was always so interesting and enjoyable! Excellent use of graphics and examples in his slides, though you definitely need to pay attention to what he says to do well on exams. Very kind, helpful, and funny. :)
Greg is an awesome Prof. However to really understand the material coming to lectures and taking notes is a MUST; you will do fine if you listen well in class. He's very organized and a very approachable prof! Highly enjoyed class
Gregory is very interested in the subject, makes it interesting, has great slides and makes very clear what will be on the exam. Exams were very fair
Greg is a great prof! Although sometimes hard to understand because of his french accent, his powerpoints contain the pertinent information. I do suggest taking notes as well though, to fully understand the concepts. Exams are fairly easy if you studied. He loves bio so much and it's great to sit in his lectures! He's pretty attractive too :)
Greg is very approachable and helpful. Biology is his passion, and it is evident in his teaching.
I really liked Greg. He is really into ecology and shared a lot of personal studies and experiences. The only thing is that you really actually have to go to class. His slides are vague so he does a lot of explaining that is crucial to be present for. He did a lot to prepare us for labs as well.
I found this class very interesting but it was not easy. The textbook is only recommended but it should be mandatory. His slides are full of pictures and examples to support concepts so going to lecture is a must. Grading consists of reading assignments, presentation, and midterm/final.
So interesting! Great prof! Must go to lectures, he leaves out lots of written explanations on his slides - on purpose - so you come and take notes!
He is awesome! He likes to talk and honestly his teaching is great he's very nice. Like any biology class you have to work for your grade just go to class and take notes and don't be afraid to ask for help he will literally find a place sit with you and help you!!! Would definitely take more classes with him!!!!!
He is very interested in what he is teaching but his tests do not reflect what was taught in class. A lot of multiple choice where there is a most right answer and usually the right answers are taught but the most right answer is not.
hes a good prof a lot like BIOL 1003, just different topics. Need to attend class and take notes. Study for the exam as its not a "common sense" exam.
Fairly boring class, can go on long tangents. Only difficulty is trying to figure out which topics are most important to study
The lecture slides are mostly pictures, he adds labels to them and explains them in class. He also includes summaries after each section that include the most important information. However, you are definitely missing out if you don't come to class and take good notes!
Really good prof.
This class is graded 60% lecture, and 40% on labs. The lecture portion is taught following the textbook mostly and his slides are mostly photos so you must be able to take notes on what he says during each lecture and go through the textbook briefly as well.
Found him disorganized with regards to covering course content, he seemed to brush over many of the important topics and focus a lot on some very obscure details. Also tended to go on long tangents. We ended up spending 6 lectures on one chapter and completely skipping a few others that should have been covered.
Makes the language barrier humourous. Get ready for undeniably the weirdest pronunciation/frequent use of "parentheses" you could ever imagine.
Great Prof, enjoyed every minute of the lectures. It Got to the point where his teaching and course material was so interesting that I thought the 50min lectures were not long enough, time would fly by. Midterms and exam were short, big difference in difficulty compared to BIOL 1003.
He is a good professor and knows his stuff. My issue is more with the course than it is with the professor. The course is way out of my field of interest and I don't like it. However, one benefit of this course is learning how to read scientific articles and research papers. Similarly to chemistry, it is conceptual based so study hard.
Good prof, but some lectures can be disorganized and jumping around everywhere. Really into what he's teaching , labs aren't that bad either but some midterms can be tricky so you definitely need to study pretty hard because it's all fact based and much of the content can seem similar to it's easy to mess up
Awesome prof if you're interested in the subject - very passionate about the subject. Relatively easily/ fair test as long as you pay attention in class, and if you attend and take notes you're golden. Gives lots of real life scenarios to help give meaning to important terms. Will gladly help after class. Some lab ta's mark hard but not his fault.
Good prof. Really passionate about what he's teaching. While studying for his tests make sure you organize his lecture slides the way you can understand it. Biology exams are generally tricky so you have to really study for his tests and exam. Always follow his learning outcomes at the end of each lecture slide to organize your study notes properly
Such a good prof who does a great job explaining the course material. His PowerPoints are super clear and a great study tool. Reading the textbook isn't mandatory, but will help solidify your understanding. Am interested every second of his class time. Make sure you go to class or the exam could be rough.
Really good prof, engaging lectures, but the exams are very hard. I didn't know multiple choice exams could be so hard until I took this class.
Way easier than Biol1103 in my opinion. No VOD so going to class is a must as he says important stuff not on slides and also gives out bonus mark worksheets! Midterms are about 30 mc questions, and you will do okay if you studied. Greg is a really good prof and cares about what he teaches!
He is such a good professor! I was nervous to take this class as I am not in Biology but he made it so fun! Yeah, it's a lot of work but he offers bonus points for just doing the work. Labs were tedious but easy grades.
I loved attending prof Bulte's lectures, he is a really good teacher and makes sure mostly everyone understands before moving on. He's really nice and told us about a lot of opportunities that will be helpful in the future. I found this course a little hard but much more enjoyable and understandable than biol 1103, and the labs were much better!!
One of my favourite profs! He is a very good lecturer and always gives examples. His slides tend to be bare so be sure to take good notes. His midterms/exam questions can be very specific and tend to include lot's of examples that you have to read. Only refer to the textbook if you are having difficulty with a topic. Study hard for the exam!
Gives lots of in class opportunities to test your knowledge and really cares about what he is teaching. His multiple choice questions are just way too long and wordy. The Lab portion for this class had impossible pre/post lab quizzes.
Literally one of the hardest courses I've taken so far and im in first year. Lecture is just extremely heavy and his voice puts me to sleep. He knows his stuff though, but I wish he would add the things he says in the lecture slides. Labs were OK, but the pre lab quizze/post quizzes were just brutal imo. Exam was ok since it was online.
Definitely much harder than BIO 1103, but I feel like he is actually teaching concepts that can be used when we go back to in person class. His lectures can be a bit dry, but he gives a ton of examples from research projects, so it's cool to see where the topics being study can lead you career wise. Adapted labs for an online platform
Power points in lectures were pretty bare. Made the topics interesting, but I am not a bio student so I struggled with understanding some concepts.
Prof Bulte is amazing! Although his course is MUCH harder than 1103, he makes it achievable to get a good grade. His lectures are very good and he provides LOTS of good examples that make understanding the concepts easier. The labs are EXTREMELY well organized! He shows us step by step how to do everything! Highly recommend taking his course.
He was ok. Good lecturer and always gives solid examples but the slides required you to take good notes. Midterm questions were very specific so you needed to study a lot. He was also not understanding at all when extenuating circumstances arose. During COVID, I had to miss a test for a reason entirely outside my control and he was not very helpful
BIO1104 was WAY harder than 1103 and he seemed to overly-complicate some material. Also took a couple of days to respond to emails and was not always helpful when responding. Not very accessible outside class. I was usually directed to the TAs - and at that point I didn't want to speak to the TAs but rather the actual prof... Not bad, but not great
I found Biol1104 a lot easier than 1103. His lectures are really engaging, he explains everything super well and the tests aren't bad at all. His online labs were SO much better than 1103. Overall a really nice guy and a super interesting course!
Lecture slides were bare, but it's understandable why, there's no point in putting slides with 2 paragraphs on them, and the concepts in 1104 require that much explanation as opposed to the factual stuff in 1103. Fair tests, interesting, he also spent near half an hour just making sure I understood something in office hours that was troubling me!
He teaches the hard material of BIOL1104 pretty good. He had amazing online labs, and very helpful lab walk throughs. The structure of the online lectures was good.
I really enjoyed having Greg as a prof. He is very knowledgable. You have to put the time in to study or you won't do well. I had to adjust my study techniques as I have been out of University for 7 years now and came from the arts. I would highly recommend taking his course. I learned a lot.
Hard tests and very long exam. Nice prof with ok lectures that you have to take detailed notes due to the bare slides. labs were decent.
Lecture slides were very bare so you really had to pay attention. All the tests (and exam) was scenario-based and really made you think. The labs were easy enough but marked hard. If you titled something incorrectly it was -30%, which is ridiculous. He explains concepts well, but you have to work for your grade in this class.
Truly amazing prof. I loved his teaching style and he was easy to learn from. I didn't use my textbook, everything you need to know is covered in lecture. However, the tests are application of concepts not just memorizing, so some will find that difficult. Ill be seeking out his classes in the future.
He's a nice guy but I didn't like how he set up the class. We were only graded on a few tests and our exam so if you failed a test you were done for. If he added more quizzes or assignments I would take a class with him again. Idk if it was just my TA but the labs were graded so hard, the highest mark i got on a graph was a 60.
Dr. Bulte was a huge upgrade from the profs that usually teach BIOL1103. The class had a lot more abstract constructs and the labs were more application based, making it more challenging and the average was lower overall - but it is very doable and fair if you study well and take good notes. Prof loves turtles 10/10
Not the easiest class and quite dry as it's an introductory level course. Labs were very time consuming and quite tough. Tests had a mix of fair and also tough questions. Very mediocre class but Gregory is very helpful and tries his best to make the topic exciting.
Very fair prof, very good at lecturing and teaching, he is clear when explaining concepts and is very knowledgeable. Material is well organized and course is well paced. You can tell he cares for his students, gives you every opportunity to do well.
Great teacher, bare slides yes, but he posts review notes that his lectures went over. Tests were easy if you paid attention to lectures, and his the excel worksheets were always enjoyable to make and solve questions with, and he even gave videos showing how to make such sheets if you needed. Labs were fun too. Didn't really need textbook.
I really enjoyed taking this class. His lectures were very clear and the way he was able to articulate concepts was very effective. It was refreshing to have a professor who was able to adapt to the online setting and put effort into his lectures. Some test were difficult however he was able to re-organize the grading structure to benefit everyone
Bulte was great! Gave study materials for his tests, tests were clear and based only on lecture information. Textbook readings were optional, but super helpful. Labs were time consuming, however he made them quite enjoyable. Will take classes with him again, great professor all around.
He's a great prof and makes his online lectures very interesting. He also gives lots of examples of test and exam questions with the answers.
his only downside is being french
He is amazing, I did terrible in 1103, and was scared to take this course but he was such an amazing prof, the lectures are very explanatory, he goes out of his way to create short notes to help us, the accommodations were really nice. The labs were okay. He makes practice questions before every test that was reflective of what came out. Nice guy.
Respected professor in the department with some interesting research. The class was pretty good. Not the easiest thing in the world as it's a first year science class, but it's well organized, and you have a much greater chance of success in this course than other first year science courses. I did pretty well with no science background.
Dr. Bulte was goated with the sauce. He clearly outlined what was expected of you and how to do well in the class. Tests were fair and labs were not very hard. Definitely choose professor Bulte when taking BIOL 1104.
I loved Professor Bulte. Not only was he super approachable both after and outside of class, he was super enthusiastic with the material and made it a lot easier to engage with what was being taught. Definitely take any course he teaches, and don't forget to ask him about his turtle research :D
Prof. Bulte was a really nice professor. I gave him a 3 in difficulty because his tests were not easily searchable online and you really needed to apply what you learned during lectures. He was very adjusting when a strike was taking place and removed the amount of worksheets, making sure the grades would not be negatively affected.
Great prof. He is engaging to listen too. The tests (similar to 1103) are fairly challenging and require you to apply concepts rather than just memorize them. The exam was a little on the long side for the time given, so ensure that you are proficient enough in the calculations from unit 3.
Dr. Bulte is passionate about BIOL 1104. He makes it interesting at times and is good at explaining concepts to confused students. There were a few good jokes sprinkled across the term. Oftentimes, his lectures are very long and the material is not very interesting. Good guy, knowledgeable, take his class.
You need to attend the lectures and take notes. The tests are fair and very similar to the practice test and example questions he provides. He only tests you on what is taught in class. Nothing tricky, tests were online so study a little and you will do well. Only thing is that his voice is very low during lectures making it hard to hear.
Greg is an excellent prof and truly cares for his students. There was a field trip for this course, and I would highly recommend going (a highlight of my semester). The content is super interesting and can be applied in real life situations if you are a herp person. The quizzes each week are great and they help to stay up to date with the content.
Actually convinced these profs are rating themselves cause I don't get why anyone thinks he's a great (probably cause everyones a first year and haven't had any better profs for comparison). 5% of ur grade are these bs worksheets he randomly hands out as an "incentive" for students to go to class. Maybe we wouldn't need one if you were an enjoyable
Nice and interesting class, Dr. Bulte made our grade very easy to get high. Test can all be shifted if the test were lower than exam. Also very polite and helpful. PS: also a tall and handsome man
Labs are overkill of small useless assignments but not his fault. lectures are ok as long as you don't mind a French accent. He's not easy to reach outside of class and would discuss test mistakes.
Great prof! He's a great lecturer and I would 100% take him again for future bio courses. Just make sure you're showing up to every lecture and taking notes on what he's saying. The tests are online which is nice but don't slack off because of that. You'll get a great mark if you actually study. The labs are also very easy.
I feel like I would have enjoyed this class way more if it was an in person class. His quizzes are all about specific examples mentioned in lectures, rather than the concepts & understanding of them, so you really have to know all kinds of different animals and their specifics. 3 tests worth 15%, weekly quizzes, and the final is 50%.
Just overall great
he is very good at his job. he teaches so well and actually wants you to succeed. the review material he shares is very beneficial and his grading is good. would recommend
He's a pretty good professor I enjoyed the course.I loved how he gave us review tests for the final.
funny guy! His lectures are really funny and he just seems like a cool dude. I don't really like the way he styles some of his questions. He's expecting you to memorize some random species he mentioned ONCE in a lecture vid.. But overall a pretty good prof, but I personally found the class kinda difficult.
The course is fascinating, plus the grading was very fair. Make sure to take some time to study for the group quiz before coming to class. Presentations are group work and really manageable. Definitely 5 out of 5, and will take courses in the future with Dr. Bulte
with all due disrespect, this prof doesnt fear god.First of all his course is so boring, pointless, and actually hard to memorize 1000 animals.Beleive me nobody takes this course because he/sheis interested in it,they take it for the credit but changing the final from online to in person emphasises the fact that this man and his team works with iblees
the day I chose this was a black day

He provides various study material (optional quizzes, or drag into the box, to test yourself). For the exam, he provided multiple quizzes to test yourself on the material covered. Lectures are long and have tons of details, so you have to pay attention. Just take notes + stay on top of lectures to do well. The exam requires memorization though.
Tests rely heavily on memorizing specific examples, often species barely covered in lecture. Lectures focus too much on examples and not enough on core biological concepts. As a result, understanding is secondary to memorization, which weakens this course as an intro to natural history. Wouldn't recommend.
Very easy class and very nice guy. If you do the review activities the exam is super easy
